Yo soy como tantos otros padres privilegiados de clase media que quieren que sus hijos disfruten de los beneficios del bilingüismo. Cuando me mudé a Grand Rapids, Michigan hace 4 años, no era mamá todavía pero casi inmediatamente me llamó la atención la gran cantidad de programas de inmersión en español en el área, que se conoce como el Oeste de Michigan.
Entonces hace 8 meses comencé a investigar el tema. Entendía que el “boom” de los programas de inmersión no era una excentricidad del Oeste de Michigan, sino una tendencia nacional. Sin embargo, una de mis preguntas centrales era cuántos niños latinos que empiezan la vida “inmersos” naturalmente en español tienen la oportunidad de seguir desarrollando el idioma de su hogar al mismo tiempo que aprendan el inglés.

The Brothers Ortiz
The Brothers Ortiz is the story of two brothers–both successful, but in very different ways.
