Dai Manuel (00:06):
Hello and welcome back to the 2% Solution.
I'm your host, I'm Anuel, andtoday we're shifting our focus
from physical to mental fitness.
We will talk about exercise inyour mind.
Like our physical health, thereare powerful ways to strengthen
our mental muscles.
Now why should we focus onmental exercise?
A strong mind enhances youroverall quality of life.

(00:30):
Cognitive exercises reducedementia risk, improve memory,
increase problem-solving skills, but it also boosts overall
brain function.
So I gotta ask you are youready to get your brain in shape
?
Well, let's dive in.
First, let's talk puzzles.
Research suggests that variouspuzzles can significantly

(00:51):
enhance problem-solving andanalytical skills.
According to a study publishedin the Archives of Neurology,
people who engage in mentallystimulating activities
experience slower memory decline.
That's a big reason why I lovecrossword puzzles.
So, doku, I mean, my goodness,I look forward to the weekend
papers just because it's got ahuge game section.

(01:11):
So, as you can tell, I get alittle excited over that.
Next, we want to embracelifelong learning.
Learning new skills is one ofthe best workouts for your brain
.
A study from the University ofEdinburgh and the University of
Texas both found that peopleengaged in these activities had
sharper minds and were lesslikely to develop cognitive

(01:33):
impairments, lifelong learning.
That's why I love reading agood personal or professional
development book.
It's amazing how those thoughtsjust permeate our brain,
creates new ideas and alsoencourages new perspectives.
But the best thing, when youget really down to the cells of
it, it's brain health.

(01:55):
Now, moving on one that youprobably are aware of just based
on the experiences that youmight have yourself when you do
this, is the physical exercise, because it impacts our mental
acuity.
Aerobic exercises like runningor swimming pump up oxygen to
your brain and grow your braincells.
The Journal of CognitiveNeuroscience reports that

(02:17):
regular exercise directly andindirectly improves memory and
thinking skills.
So a healthy body does mean ahealthy mind, and let's focus on
mindfulness and meditation.
Regular meditation leads tochanges in the brain that
enhance concentration as well asour ability to keep our

(02:38):
attention.
A Harvard study showed thatmindfulness meditation can
change the brain's structure, improving areas associated with
memory, sense of self, empathyand stress.
And then, lastly, get social.
Socializing isn't just fun,it's also cognitively

(02:59):
stimulating.
The American Journal of PublicHealth found that social
engagement could help preservememory and cognitive abilities
as we age.
So there's five ways toexercise your mind and keep your
brain sharp, from puzzles tolifelong learning.
Physical fitness, meditation andjust hanging out your mental

(03:19):
workout can be as diverse andenjoyable as your physical
regimen.
