of the week with neatanimation and let me know what style
(02:46):
you like best.
I've been trying differentstyles in that I haven't done like
the puppet Muppet style yet.
But maybe, maybe we'll do thatthis week.
We'll see.
Hey, that reminds me, it'stime for our Athlete of the Week
at Nation.
We have another awesomeathlete with us today, all the way
(03:07):
from Lion Country.
I hear what's Your name, sir?
My name is Rims Carnero, sir.
Ah, nice to meet you.
And you are.
What school did you train at?
I trained in Integrity MartialArts in Cutler Bay, Florida.
Cutler Bay, Florida.
Down there with Senior MasterIsaacs and Grandmaster Isaacs.
An awesome place down there.
(03:28):
You guys got like, there'slike 400 integrity schools down there
now.
I think Senior Master Isaacsis trying to take over the state,
I hear.
Hey, we love to hear a littlebit about people's history.
First, how old are you right now?
I am 13 years old, sir.
(03:48):
Thirteen, okay.
And what rank are you?
I'm a second degree black belt.
Second degree black belt.
Fantastic.
And so how did you get startedin martial arts?
I was 4 years old and I wasreally, like, fascinated with, like,
the Ninja Turtles, and Ialways want to, like, become one
of them, and my parents put mein Integrity, and now I'm here.
It's been history since then.
(04:09):
Right.
Okay, most important question then.
Which Ninja Turtle is your favorite?
Michelangelo.
Michelangelo, very popular.
Donatello's better, but okay, great.
So, hey, question about competition.
You're one of these athletesthat the junior ambassadors have
been picking up to highlight.
(04:31):
It's great to see lots ofdifferent athletes highlighted at
tournaments.
What's your favorite event tocompete in?
My favorite event to competein is sparring.
Because I love the competitivenature of it.
And, like, it doesn't matterhow many times we hit each other
or how hard outside of themat, we're always friends.
I love that.
I tell my students all the time.
We always, you know, what'sthe nicest thing before you go into
(04:53):
a sparring match?
You always shake hands.
You hug, you say, which isjust kind of a crazy thing to think
about.
Like, we.
We go around kicking people inthe head, but before and after we
shake hands and hug, we'relike, hey, yeah, no, that's fine.
So sparring is your go to event.
I love it.
What, what about, like, if youhad to pick an event that was maybe
not in your top level events, what event would that be?
(05:14):
Well, I don't really have,like, an event I don't like the most.
I like all events because theyalways, like, bring something.
I always learn something fromeach event, and I always try to be
1% better in each event.
So I don't really have, like,a least favorite.
Oh, man, that's a great answer.
Very cool.
So we are right now as werecord this, getting ready for district
(05:37):
championships and then worldchampionships around the.
Around the bend.
What are you.
What kind of goals do you havefor the end of this season, the.
Kind of, the type of goals Ihave for the end of the season, I
definitely try to get anotherworld title and try to get a district,
some district titles toqualify for some events that I maybe
didn't qualify for for Worlds.
(05:58):
Gotcha.
What, what event have you orevents have you gotten world championships
in before?
World Creative WeaponsSparring, and we got it in team sparring
last year, sir.
Nice.
Good job.
You said creative weapons wasone of them.
What creative weapon do you,do you use?
I use the nunchuck, sir.
Nice.
And then in traditionalweapons, are you a chuck guy too?
(06:21):
Yes, sir.
Yeah, I gotta have thoseflying double chucks, right?
Yes, sir.
You got it.
Hey, what about look into the future?
You know, you're 13, maybe notnext year, but just as you look at
the future of your Taekwondotraining as an athlete, as a competitor,
maybe as a, as a student, whatare you looking at as some longer
(06:44):
term goals for yourself?
Definitely Mastership.
I do one day want to become aMaster, sir.
I love that.
I am.
You know what?
I am so impressed with thenumber of students that I have got
to interview through thisseries that have that goal of becoming
a Master, and it's so cool.
You guys can most certainly bea great generation of masters.
(07:07):
You know, we get to see, youknow, I, I'm personally excited to
be able to be like, Iinterviewed that guy, you know, when
he's now I'll probably be likewith a cane or something awful there,
but I'm not that old.
But going for master, that's awesome.
You guys got some great rolemodels there and integrity for you.
(07:27):
As you look at, you know, thepeople around you, as you look at
your own competitive nature, what does it mean to be an athlete
that goes beyond the belt?
For me, what it means to be anathlete that goes beyond the belt
is to inspire othercompetitors that maybe doesn't mean
to have to be in the same ringas me, but to push them and for them
to always do their best, nomatter the outcome and, and to always
(07:49):
be happy with how they did.
Oh, I love that.
I think it's so important.
That's such an importantmessage for all kinds of people.
Especially like this time ofyear, we're going to have a lot of
people that aren't going toget the title they wanted.
You know, I mean, there's,there's 10 people or more in the,
in the Tournament of Championsfor that division.
One person walks away with a title.
(08:11):
You know, there's a lot ofpeople who don't walk away.
And what you said there aboutmaking sure that they, you know,
think about how they did forthemselves, how they improve themselves.
Great inspiration for peopleas they get ready for worlds and
nationals.
Obviously we want you guys towin, you know, titles and stuff,
but have you.
(08:31):
Here's a, Here's a question.
Have you gone competed in theTOC or district and not got the title
that you wanted?
Yes, sir.
And how did you.
How did you deal with that?
I just made sure to work twiceas hard for the next year and just
be prepared for whateverhappens the next time around.
I love that.
Good.
It's all about the journeythat you're.
(08:52):
You're participating in.
It's not always about the end result.
So.
Great advice, sir.
What a great athlete.
Any other last words for ATAnation out there before we let you
go?
I'm sure you've got lots to doand train.
I think I hear Senior MasterIsaacs back there telling you to,
like, do more jumping jacks orrun 100 more miles or something.
(09:16):
Just for every competitor totrain hard, do their best, and good
luck for TOC and districts.
Ah, great.
Thank you so much for yourtime, sir.
Thank you for being aninspiration for other athletes out
there in ATA Nation.
And good luck in all your competitions.
Thank you, sir.
(09:38):
Love it.
Another amazing athlete of theweek, guys.
These athletes just keepcoming and I'm so impressed to get
to meet these guys, see whattheir goals are, get to talk to them
about, you know, theirfavorite events and stuff.
