Speaker 1 (00:15):
I'm still working on that.
Okay, but we've got one moreafter that and our special guest

school, mr robbie roach.
How are you, sir, doing well?
Thanks for having me all right.
Thanks for coming in.
Everybody on camera, right,holly I, I can't see it.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
I can't see you either.
You know, I'd like to be ableto talk and see and use my hands
.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Let me see something here.
Let's something.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
You would have think he had been prepared prior to
the show starting you would havethought.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
But then Robbie Roach is distracting me with these
things that the kids are doingall these days.
It's on their phones, no less.
Hold on a second.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Not at Palmetto High.
That's illegal.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
No phones, right that's right Against the law.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
That's right.
Sorry about this, everybody.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
It would help.
So, Robbie, how are you, sir?
I'm good.
How's school going?

Speaker 3 (01:12):
It's going well.
It's going well.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Getting to the end of the year, yeah, yeah,
everybody's excited, ready towrap it up.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
All right, all right, we're ready now.
I'm sorry, I got really wrappedup in some things.
I shouldn't have to begin theshow, but now we are streaming.
See, I got to get used to thisnew thing with the video
streaming that I have to startthat and the audio at the same
time.
So now we're doing it, and solet's talk to Mr Roach here a
little bit.
We try to have the principalson.
If you've been around theprogram at all over the last

(01:42):
five years, holly?

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Five years, that's a long dang time.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Five years we try to have the principals on at the
end of the year, do kind of awrap-up of how the year has gone
at their high school and havesome fun while they're here.
So, Mr Roach, what's going onover there in Palmetto?
I know your baseball team's inthe playoffs because you're
going.
Are you going over there tocrescent tonight?

Speaker 3 (02:03):
I'm planning on it.
I am starts at seven, so I haveplenty of time um soccer one
soccer girls and boys have won.
So, uh, you know we're.
We're in the playoffs for thattoo.
So it's an exciting time, really busy in the spring sports
.
But yeah, you know we, we knewwhat we were signing up for when
we took these jobs.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
How's football coming along?
I know that's been a growingprocess there, a building
process.
I should say Whoops.
Sorry, I'm having a day here.
I know you are.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
And I'm glad you mentioned it, because I just
talked to somebody today and Itold them that you know we're
not only excited about CoachNorton and his crew, but you
know we're not only excitedabout coach Norton and his crew,
but, uh, you know we're, we'recommitted that they're.
They're the crew that we needat Palmetto High to really get
the program growing and we'veseen it improve in just a short
amount of time they've beenthere and we expect more of that

(02:57):
yeah, it's, it's interesting.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
I only made it to.
I think we only covered onegame last year, just the way the
schedule worked out, and Ithink I mentioned to you last
year that it just seems like thewhole attitude has changed, the
culture is changing and thenonce you get that winning
culture in there, the wins willfollow Definitely.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
There's definitely a lot of positivity going on.
You know we see the coachescoaching hard.
You know whether we're up bigor we're down big, they're still
coaching hard, right to the end.
And you know the kids arecommitted to them.
So it's been a good thing, yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
How does this whole end of the year ending early
affect athletics?
Because you know before westarted later and so you had
more time in May.
How does this affect athletics?

Speaker 3 (03:45):
It does have an impact because baseball and
softball, for instance, if theywere to make a run and make it
to state finals, that takesplace after our actual
graduation ceremony, wow.
So yeah, I mean it definitelyhas an effect because you know
you have families making plans.
Obviously, if you have a seniorthat's graduating, you may just

(04:07):
decide okay, I'm going to makeplans for the day after.
Well, if your senior was playingone of those sports.
Your plans get changed all of asudden, so it's definitely had
an impact.
It has an impact on how muchfootball you get into because of
spring sports school's our sizewe have so many people playing

(04:27):
multiple sports that you don'tget everybody out there.
You don't get the time withthem that you would hope you'd
get, but hopefully all thoseguys are committed to coming to
summer workouts and we make itup that way.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah Well, at least you're not like Limestone, where
their poor baseball team isplaying and the school's not
even there anymore.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
That's true, it could get a tough situation for them.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
I can imagine we had a kid in our class that had
committed to wrestle there.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
At Limestone.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Yeah, and of course, had to pull his commitment and
find somewhere else to go.
I think he's going to PC now,but just rough for a lot of
people, that whole situation, but that's a whole different
topic.
What about, academically, someof the things that have gone on
at Palmetto this year?

Speaker 3 (05:16):
I tell you we found tremendous success in Algebra 1.
That's something we celebratedpretty much the whole year.
After we got those results, wewere able to take the algebra
teachers and miss houston's, youknow an experienced teacher
that kind of coached them upthrough some things, and we're
able to take them down andpresent to the um, the entire

(05:39):
state am I still on here?
Yeah, you're, you're good, that's just the headphones the
entire state's instructionalleaders.
So that was a good thing.
You know, it's basically achance to share.
Hey, this is what we did and itworked.
And we've seen some prettydecent gains in US history here
in the spring, because thatwasn't quite where we wanted it

(06:00):
to go in the first semester.
So we're pretty committed tothe PLC process.
You know, solution tree.
We're a model PLC school, sothat collaboration has made all
the difference for our teachersand the fact that as
administrators we've actually, you know, had to back up a
little bit and say, okay, I'mnot going to be in control of

(06:21):
everything, which is a littlebit of an issue for me I can
admit I have some control issues, but you know, kind of give
some of that to the teachers andthis made a huge difference.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
So do you see a difference between when we were
a seven-period, eight-period day, block day, compared to where
we're at now, into thefour-by-four?

Speaker 3 (06:41):
I do into the four by four I do.
I think this lends itself to alittle more success for us doing
that AB schedule.
That was tough on kids andadults Just having that many
people you're dealing with.
You know, now students arebasically dealing with three or
four adults at one time asopposed to seven or eight, and

(07:03):
now just kind of simple things, simplified things for everybody,
and I think it's been betterfor us that's great good news.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Um, so how about the growth of the school, the whole
school system?
Obviously we talked.
We talked before previously.
We've been on.
They've got a big middle schoolover there now and of course
they're going to feed into thehigh school.
How's the high school growing?

Speaker 3 (07:25):
definitely.
Um has increased significantly.
We we have our biggestenrollment ever, about 1290.
I mean not 1290, geez I Icouldn't handle that 1090.
But our graduating class is,you know, over 250, which is,
you know, much more than it'sever been.
So so I mean, it's a good thing, it's a good problem to have,

(07:48):
but we're out of space.
So you know that's anotherchallenge we'll be facing,
pretty much using everyclassroom space, every office
space in the building.
Now.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
So explain where you go as far as planning, and I
guess you know working with thedistrict.
Where do you go when you knowyou're running out of space and
you have to plan for the future?
What are the plans for thefuture?
I mean how far off before youhave people out going to class
in tents or trailers or whateverthey've got to go?

Speaker 4 (08:17):
Portables.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah, I know, I was just kind of using my great
sense of humor.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Yeah, the portables are definitely not ideal.
You know we would, Using mygreat sense of humor the
portables are definitely notideal.
We would seek ways to kind ofshare classroom space and that
kind of stuff before we went toportables, if we could.
And one of the things I did myfirst year as a teacher is I had
a little cart and I put somebling bling on it and I bounced

(08:42):
around.
I was what they called afloater.
So I bounced around thedifferent classrooms and that's
how I did it, because I didn'thave my own classroom.
So that's not ideal either, butyou know that's a way to make
it work until a building plangets into place.
And you know, I think that'skind of on the horizon, probably

(09:02):
more of a superintendentquestion than a principal
question, because you know Ihave ideas of you know I feel
like you know new high schoolsdefinitely do, and Palmetto
should be the priority over theother two because we're just
better there you go, there yougo.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
It's a good approach.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
So, but you know, you look everywhere and you see
houses being shoehorned in nomatter where you go in this area
.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Especially Williamston.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Yeah, they're everywhere I mean they're
literally if you see an open lot, it's not long until there's a
house sitting there.
So the whole population, theschool population, is really
coming on for Palmetto, and inthe past there's been growth,
but now that's like an explosionof it.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Absolutely, and it's, and it's happening everywhere.
It's not just here, right?
You know random powdersville, they feel it too.
So, uh, it's.
It's just an overall issue thatwe're all trying to navigate
which is a great issue.
Everybody wants to be indistrict one, absolutely,
absolutely, which we understandand you know, looking nationwide
, everybody I mean it seems likepeople from lots of other

(10:05):
states want to come to SouthCarolina.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Yeah yeah, you know I was talking to some of the kids
about that.
They don't realize what a goodstate they live in.
Sometimes, when you grow upsomeplace, you're like you can't
wait to get out.
But you know, I grew up in NewJersey, so come on.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
You're ready to go?
I'm ready to go.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
But here I mean South Carolina has a little bit of
everything.
I mean we're right near metroareas, we're near mountains,
we're near ocean, all that stuff.
You know you could be living inNebraska or somewhere, so yeah,
it's a place that everybodywants to live and the whole area
is exploding in growth and boy,I just you know there's going

(10:45):
to be a lot of kids that aregoing to be placed in schools.
I don't know how they're goingto do it to keep up with the
rate of growth, because I justsee so many of these places
exploding in growth, but they'llfind a way, I'm sure.
Um, we'll talk more with uhprincipal robbie roach coming up
.
In fact, we're gonna go alittle lighthearted.
We like to have some fun.

(11:07):
He's one that we can have funwith.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
He is absolutely.
He likes a laugh.
He didn't bring the quail eggsthis time, no, no.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
I was trying to think of something we could taste
test with him.
I just couldn't get out to getit Because there's a lot of
weird stuff on the market rightnow.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
And Robbie would be the one you would do it,
wouldn't you?

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Robbie, I would, and it's funny you mention it,
because when I was leaving thehouse this morning I was
thinking I should have plannedbetter and went by Happy Cow,
because you know they have awhole new setup now.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
I know I haven't been out there yet.
Is it great.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
It is so nice and it crossed my mind, I should have
went by there.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
They have a fantastic dessert that that's like in a
mason jar, and I could havebrought a sampler you could have
.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
I'm sorry, like why did you even tell us that?

Speaker 2 (11:48):
now.
Yeah, well, it's kind oftorture.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, to kick off next year we're gonna have to
kick it off when we'll have awhole food show yes, we will
just taste a bunch of stuff.
Count me in, okay sounds good, but when we come back we have
the annual student questions foryou.
Uh, only got a few this year.
We'll see see what the studentswant to ask their principal all
from Palmetto students.
And then we have a couple otherthings that have popped up that

(12:12):
everybody's talking about.
That we'll have some fun withtoo.
Later on in the show, royCostner is the chairman of the
South Carolina Entertainment andMusic Hall of Fame will be with
us to tell us about a specialshow coming up this weekend.

School, and it's time, ladiesand gentlemen, I've got to get
theme songs for all this.
We've got to get a producerback.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
We just got a producer this year, for sure.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Yeah.
And we have to have one thatbrings food to like mckenzie?
Yes, absolutely I agree, because colt, he didn't bring
food and he was out here.
Yeah, we got to get somebodythat can take care of us.
Yes, uh, anyway, here are thequestions, um, from some of our
junior and well, mostly juniorstudents that have given us this
year only five, so it won'ttake too much time, but uh,

(15:24):
first off, mr Roach, whatinspired you to become a
principal?
That's a nice boring question.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Good question.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Go ahead.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
I would say when I was in high school I wasn't
crazy about school.
I joined the military and whileI was in the military I
actually trained some people andstuff and that kind of got me
thinking maybe I should be ateacher.
So then when I got out, I wentto Clemson, became a teacher.
While I was teaching andcoaching, it just kind of.

(15:55):
I mean, it didn't take long tofigure out that, hey, I have
ideas about how some things youknow probably should go.
So I want to have someinfluence on how things will go
in the schools I work in.
So that's when I startedpursuing leadership and, of
course, once I got intocertification as an

(16:16):
administrator, all I ever wantedto do was come back to Palmetto
because that's where Igraduated.
I had a fantastic high schoolexperience.
I loved it.
I just wasn't crazy about theclasses you know the classes,
but yeah, once I got there, youknow, got the certification, it
was kind of like I want to goback to my school and, you know,

(16:37):
try to make it as enjoyable forpeople as it was for me.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
How many years you've been there now uh, this is my
13th year there.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Uh, 11th as principal .
All right, just finished.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
That's pretty cool, just just returning home, um,
and the next thing is sometimesplays into why you want to
become a principal.
In fact, it it played into whenwe had um whitfield on a couple
weeks ago, for in ren and thatwas uh.
What were you like as a student?

Speaker 3 (17:05):
oh yeah well, I was not.
I mean, in all honesty, I wasnot the best student.
Um, I would.
Well, I'll tell you something.
This kind of coins it.
Um, just three years ago, wedid a renovation of the offices.
Prior to that, I was in thevery office that was the

(17:25):
principal's office when I was astudent.
Well, I was actually paddled inthe very office that I worked
out of, and when I started asprincipal, I had actually been
paddled by a sitting boardmember before.
Dr Atkins was the seventh gradeassistant principal when I went
through middle school.
And yeah, he had a chance toredirect me, but I often needed

(17:50):
redirection.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
So did this happen early, like ninth, tenth grade,
or that lasted all the waythrough your senior year?

Speaker 3 (17:56):
I pretty much got paddled every year.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Should I even ask why ?

Speaker 3 (18:02):
Yeah, there's a variety of reasons.
I think the last one was theuse of some profane language,
which is something we stilladdress with students that we
don't appreciate in the hallways.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
That's right.
You haven't had the opportunityto paddle any, though.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
I don't do it, but Dr Jones will do it.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
We still do it in Anderson.
It's still legal, yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
And we have a handful of parents each year that will
you know sign a paper and say, yeah, I want this to be an
option for my kid.
I'll tell you 90 of the time, though, when the parent signs
that that kid doesn't presentany problem, exactly, they don't
want dr jones to take a swingon them wow wow okay, next
question uh, what gave you theidea to do the big Mustang

(18:45):
announcements?

Speaker 1 (18:47):
I don't even know what that is.
I don't either Tell us what itis.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
So I'm just silly for one thing, and I probably
shouldn't have access to aloudspeaker.
But you know, one year there'sjust some nonsense going on.
So I decided that, you know, Iwas going to do something I
called Life Principles with thePrincipal and I wrote this

(19:11):
little fable and said you know,I kind of go over with the kids,
you know.
All right, I'm going to share afable with you and I even define
it for them, because some ofthem don't remember what a fable
is, and when I talk about it Irefer to myself as Big Mustang.
Oh, okay, and you know I'm incharge of a canyon full of
little Mustangs and sometimesthe little Mustangs get

(19:33):
infiltrated with some littledonkeys and you know the little
donkeys do some silly things andI've used examples.
Like you know, some of thelittle boy donkeys would like to
wear their little sister shortsand nobody wanted to see that.
To address dress code issuesI've used things like telling

(19:53):
them that the little donkeysthat vape always store them in
their underwear.
So it's like you put your facein somebody's underwear if you
share their vape.
Which is true a variety of waysof uh, you know, trying to get
them to understand some things,uh doing little fables yeah,
well, that see.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Now one of the other questions makes more sense that
we can just piggyback off ofthat.
Uh, what made you think of thefables?
When something bad has happened, it's always when something bad
has happened, the principalcomes on with the fable.
That's awesome.
I mean I love it.
I've heard I know you've beendoing this for several years now

(20:32):
, because I've heard atdifferent times from students
and they have varying responsesto it, but I think it's great.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
I didn't know.
It was called Big Mustang.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
I didn't either.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
Well, and I just you know, I 100% know that I think
I'm funnier than most people, probably do but when I write the
little fables, you know I'mreally cracking myself up a lot.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
And you know what's funny is you and your other
administrators are opposite, which makes such a great
administration when that happens, isn't it?
I mean I say that all the time.
You don't want somebody justlike you sitting next to you,
you want somebody that's totallyopposite than you.
So you have that.
So y'all have a really gooddynamic over there.

(21:12):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
All right, the last question.
I know this isn't along thesubject lines that are your most
favorite.
It's not about pajamas, whichis another one of the ones that
Principal Roach gives.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Is there a fable about pajamas?
I'm sure there was.
There was.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Yeah, there definitely was.
At one time I would have tolook through my notes to find
out exactly what the message was.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
His response whatever it was, was always legendary
because the kids were alwaystalking about it.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
He hates the pajamas yeah, I was not a fan of pajamas
and it took me forever to comearound the hats, but I did, yeah
, yeah all right.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
So what's the most creative senior prank you've
ever seen, and do you rememberwhat year that was?
I know there's been some nastyones, but what's been the?

Speaker 3 (22:05):
most creative.
I would say the most creativewas the year that a bunch of
them decided we're going tobring tents and just camp out on
the lawn and in the parking lot.
Whenever we get there, theyhave their grills set up.
They're making eggs and bacon.
That was pretty fun and harmlessand you know that was pretty

(22:27):
fun and harmless.
You know, part of the issuewith this year even being able
to do anything is the fact thatlast year some people actually,
you know, got their way into theschool and they made a mess and
you know that kind of ruined itfor everybody.
There were a bunch of donkeyslast year, a lot of little
donkeys.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
Was there a fable that came from this year?

Speaker 3 (22:46):
No, it was after the fact it was I'll tell you one
thing I will mention aboutpajamas.
Though it's kind of an urbanlegend, it goes around the
school that I only startedallowing pajamas whenever one of
the little mustangs actuallywas one the one that lives in
the house with me, and somepeople say that, you know, once
she got there she convinced meto let them wear pajamas right,

(23:08):
so is that true well, I mean, they do wear pajamas now they do
all right, it's gonna be asenior next year there's a
couple of fun things that aregoing on in social media etc.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
And and chat.
Gpt is, which I tell my kidsbecause we use it for some
things.
It helps get things donequicker in some cases when we're
writing scripts or doingresearch or whatever a lot
quicker than the encyclopediabritannica that I grew up with.
But uh, anyway, um, I call ityour friend chad jepiti.

(23:44):
So did you work on this withyour friend chad friend Chad
Jepiti?
So did you work on this withyour friend Chad Chad Jepiti?
Yes, a lot of laughs and maybea lot of crickets in the
background, but there's thisthing where you get to load a
photo in and then ask ChadJepiti to roast the people in

(24:06):
the photo.
Yep, and Mr Roach here wasactually the one that
recommended doing this on theshow today.
Oh, because he said some funwith it.
Tell us some about that, whatever you can, because it is
kind of a fun thing.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
All right, so I'll start with you, with you know,
first one I did was me and mydaughter and and my wife and my
wife was holding a little dog.
So it started off withreferring to my daughter.
It says looking like a disneyprincess who just found out her
prince only has a honda civic.
Her lace dress says sundaybrunch, but that side eye says I
saw what you texted at 2 am soI thought that was pretty good,

(24:46):
mm-hmm amazingly accurate thatone.
For my wife it says that smileshiding 30 years of I told you so
and a mental list of everyonewho didn't RSVP to her last
barbecue seems pretty accuratefor mine.
It said Santa took the summeroff and hit up a few too many

(25:06):
buffets tell them what the otherone was that, uh, that was also
you.
It was a little rude on me.
The other one, perhaps myfavorite, is um, and on this one
I had to actually put in goscorched earth on me and my golf
buddies.
And on this one it says uh, letme find it.

(25:30):
It says built like a meatsmoker and breathes like brisket
, probably pitched a cookingshow to Food Network titled
Grill Daddy Deluxe and gotblocked.
Grill Daddy Deluxe Lives off ofgas station.
Jerky and misplaced pride.
That was my favorite of myself.
There's some other favorites ofsome other people, wow.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Holly's done this as well, and I threw a picture in
there too.
I couldn't find a good formalfamily photo, but I had one of
everybody on the bleacherswatching one of our kids
football game.
We'll get to that shortly, buton the line now we have zach.
How are you zach?

Speaker 6 (26:08):
I'm doing good.
How are you?

Speaker 1 (26:10):
good, good, good.
What is going on in the sportsworld, my friend, Well, Clemson
had a big announcement today.

Speaker 6 (26:17):
I'm not sure if you or Holly saw it, but from 2027,
starting in 2027 to the year2038, Clemson and Notre Dame are
playing each other in footballevery year.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
Wow, 10 years Every year, every year.
That's 10 years Every year.

Speaker 6 (26:34):
Every year.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
That's going to get expensive.

Speaker 6 (26:37):
So I think in 20, let's see, I think I've seen in
2029, they'll play Notre Dame,Georgia, south Carolina.
They'll have a home-and-homewith Georgia in 29 and 30.
And then I think in 34, 35,it's a home-and-home with
Oklahoma.
So you've got LSU the next twoyears, this year, next year,

(26:59):
home-and-home, Then Notre Damecranks up and then at 29-30,
it's the Georgia home-and-homeand then 34-35 is Oklahoma
home-and-home and they wereplaying Oklahoma State, I
believe, in like 37, 38, butthat got canceled when COVID
happened and everything and theynever did reschedule it.

(27:19):
So that's really the biggestnews.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
All right Well that's good for the schedule,
especially when you're trying tomake the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (27:26):
Yeah, yeah, that's right.
And then, I guess, major leaguenews.
Hopefully the Braves arestarting to find some heat a
little bit.
They just can't seem to.
They either win a series orthey win one game of the series.

Speaker 7 (27:46):
It's still early.

Speaker 6 (27:48):
Yeah, that's the thing about baseball it's very,
very early, and then sohopefully we play the Reds again
tonight.
We won 40-0 last night.
I hated to see the left fielderfor the Reds go down.
I don't know if you've seenthat or seen the video.
It was a rookie left fielder forthe Reds who was replacing
already injured left fielder andMatt Olsen hit a ball down the

(28:10):
left field line.
He caught the ball when.
And Matt Olsen hit a ball downthe left field line.
He caught the ball.
When he caught the ball he wasrunning full speed and his arm
come up against the wall and youknow the rest Broke his arm and
everything.
It was inside the park.
Home run for Matt Olsen.
There was a big stink about it.
Well, he should have been deadand whatever.
It's kind of hard to tell.
It's really kind of hard totell.

(28:36):
Don't know how I would feel ifit was the brave, if it was
against the braves.
You know how people would feelif it was their team.
But you can't just blow, youknow, like in basketball.
I mean, if a player getsinjured on the other side of the
court, you know they justcontinue playing to the next
team scores, next dead ball andthen it's a dead ball.
So but but, other than thatreally there's.
There's really not a whole lotgoing on.
As far as you know, collegebaseball is winding down a

(28:56):
little bit and Clemson's kind ofhit a little bit of a cold
spell.
They play at number eight, coastal Carolina tonight and so
Coastal Carolina got them whenthey come up here and so they
kind of hit a cold spell.
They're two and let's see twoand five in their last seven.

(29:19):
I think it is yeah, they're twoand five in their last seven.
They beat georgia midweek, gotswept at nc state and florida
state took two or three fromthem this past weekend and run
ruled them on sunday.
So you never can tell aboutbaseball.
I mean it's, it's crazy how youknow the braves come home for
their first home game and theywin 10 to nothing to the Marlins
and then turn around and losefour to nothing two games later.

(29:40):
I mean it's just crazy how thathappens.
And then when the Phillies cometo town, I wouldn't have
thought they would have took twoor three from a good Phillies
team.
But you know they, they did,and I mean you know they did,
and I mean you know when we goup there to Philadelphia, you
know to that, whatever you wantto call it that dump up there.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
Rated the best stadium in the league, by the
way.

Speaker 6 (30:02):
Yeah, I have said that is one ballpark I've always
wanted to go to.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
It's nice.

Speaker 6 (30:09):
I would just love to drive on there and look to my
left and see the Eagles, andthen look on and see the
Phillies, and then I thinkyou've got the 76ers arena there
too.
Yep, the 76ers, and.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
Flyers.

Speaker 6 (30:23):
I would just love to do that.
We're going to Kentucky thisyear for vacation.
We're going to the CincinnatiZoo.
I highly recommend it if you'venever been.
It's awesome best zoo I've everbeen to.
We go and see my in-laws upthere.
We have a family reunion at thezoo every year with Tiffany's
family, so you know the monkeysand all that.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Wasn't that where that famous gorilla was that got
killed I?

Speaker 2 (30:49):
think so.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
What was his name?
Everybody knows.

Speaker 6 (30:53):
I should know this but are you talking about?
You ain't talking about thecrocodile hunter, are you?

Speaker 1 (30:57):
no, no, no, no uh drop me to google it come on, mr
roach, you know this one.
They're always talking aboutthe.
Was it a gorilla or?

Speaker 6 (31:06):
it was continue, zach continue, I'm sorry, but uh, uh
, but yeah, I mean there's, youknow, and what I was saying was,
uh, cincinnati zoo.
That was the neatest thing.
We went to the louisville gamein 2019 and went on to the
cincinnati zoo and you get onthat highway there and you pass
the red stadium on your right, then you pass the bengal stadium

(31:28):
and it's just, it's phenomenal.
You know, and I'm the type ofperson that if I'm near like a
high school or whatever, like Ilike, I like to go see it.
You know.
You don't know when you'll beback in that area.
And you know, when we went toLouisville in 2019, I went and
found Kentucky University.
I went and found, you know, when me and Tiffy went on our
honeymoon, I went to FloridaUniversity, you know if.

(31:50):
You know, if we're withindriving distance like two and a
half, three hours I always liketo go.
But you know I've always wantedto try to go to Gainesville
where Deshaun Watson went andplayed high school, but it's
just 30 minutes off theinterstate, you know.
So I told Tiffany I gaveTiffany a hard time.
We went to Covington, georgia,a couple weeks ago where Vampire
Diaries was filmed andeverything.

(32:11):
You can never say nothing elseabout me wanting to go see all
these football stadiums becausewe ate like in the diner where
they had a couple of scenes andstuff.
You can never give me a hardtime anymore.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Well, that's it.
That's how you get credits withthe wife.
You've got to do stuff likethat.

Speaker 6 (32:27):
Yes, sir, absolutely.
But yeah, that's pretty much itin the sports world, really not
a whole lot going on.
And really not a whole lotgoing on.
But you know, if you're in theNBA, I'm a Steph Curry fan, you
know.
So I pull for the Warriorsbecause you can't ever watch
them.
They come on at 1030 at night,I know.
But you know, if you're an NBAfan, you know you've got that

(32:47):
winding down with the playoffsand you know major league
baseball starting to get crankedup real good and college
baseball is winding down beforewe know it we'll be talking
football not too far away.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
It'll be here quickly , all right, man looking forward
to it, all righty thanks forcalling in.

Speaker 6 (33:02):
Have a good week have a good one, see, all right it
was in cincinnati.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
The three-year-old boy that fell in.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
Yeah, what was the name of the?

Speaker 2 (33:09):
um harambe harambe.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
Yes, how could we forget?
And they had to kill thegorilla to remember harambe kill
a gorilla.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
Kill the gorilla because the he had that
three-year-old boy and theythought if they had tranquilized
him it wouldn't have takeneffect that quickly to save the
boy, because they weren't surewhat it was going to do and
wasn't?

Speaker 1 (33:27):
he was just holding him, right?
Yeah, at the time he was justholding him and of course, it
only takes one movement and theymovement to kill him.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
And they said that you know, had they shot him with
the dart, it would have taken afew minutes for the dart to
take work.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
And it would have ticked him off.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Yes, he would have been hurt or you know, dizzy,
those kind of things, yeah, sothey ended up having to kill him
.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
And the boy's fine, yeah, so yeah, I thought that
was in Cincinnati and the kidsstill talk about it.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
And that was a Harambe was wronged 2016.
Yeah, and here we are.
I can't believe you rememberthat Almost 10 years later.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
They were just talking about it in class the
other day.
You know why?
Because that other thing that'sgoing on right now, the 100 men
versus the gorilla debate, Idon't know, you don't know about
that.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Holly?
No, I don't know you don't knowabout that, Holly.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
No, you've been stuck in your office too much that
everybody's talking about this.
We've been busy a couple ofweeks.

Speaker 4 (34:16):
But you've heard it, mr Roach, I have what's
happening.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
It's a big debate.
It's been on talk shows, beenall over social media.
What would happen 100 menversus one gorilla?

Speaker 2 (34:28):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Yeah, basically somebody just posed a question.
Yeah, basically somebody justposed a question Do you think,
100 men could whip one gorilla, wow.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
And what do you think I'm going to say?
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
Well, that would be the side I'd be on too.
I mean, 100 men, he's got toget tired.
I was going to say I wouldn't,want to be the first 25 men.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
That's what I was going to say.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
I'm going to say the same thing I've told groups of
students before.
If they said, you know, I thinkwe all could take you, I'd be
like yeah, but who's first?
Yeah, exactly those firstcouple's going to be tough, yeah
the first couple's going to getit, y'all might get me
eventually.
Wait, they said that to you.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
I bet we all could take you.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
I was at a boy's home and there were some challenges
there, Wow.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
But I mean, yeah, seriously it would be.
I mean, you could probably, like you said, get tired hold
them down.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
The gorilla's got to get tired after a while.
You'd have to have a strategy, those kind of things.
Yeah, it would eventuallysuccumb, I think to that much.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
But then the kids are saying what if they're just
wimpy guys?
What if they're all these big?
Uh, football players?

Speaker 3 (35:34):
or something like that dozens of casualties before
the gorilla went down.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Yes, yeah, and you know you talk about even a
gorilla.
You talk about a grizzly bearor a polar bear or even a lion.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
Polar bears are, you know what I mean, nasty yeah
yeah, in all of the theconversation you know, different
facts will pop up, like thetheI that a gorilla's hand can
exert, and it's like 1300 pounds.
So just crush yeah it wouldcrush skulls, it would break
bones just by grabbing them.
I mean, there's a lot of thingsand you know the way you might

(36:07):
hit a person.
You think, boy, that's gonna, you know, hurt a person.
It's not gonna hurt a gorillabecause, their bones are more
dense and everything.

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Oh see, now I'm thinking about it more and
you're thinking too.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
You have to think about strategy-wise.
Like is all 100 coming at once,or are you doing one after the
other, like if you do one-on-oneand then?

Speaker 1 (36:25):
that one goes.
You see what I mean.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
And I think the gorilla could probably do all
100 at that, or real close tothat I think if a hundred people
attacked the grill at one time, maybe right, you could take
over maybe they would take overjust because of

Speaker 1 (36:39):
exhaustion and yeah, you know stamina, yeah but there
were, like you said, therewould be a lot of casualties
yeah, oh, yeah crush skulls yeahall right.
so back to the funny thing we'redoing the pictures where
everybody's getting roasted I'lldo mine real quick which again
was just my family sitting onthe bleachers at a football game

(37:00):
.
Okay, so Chad Jepiti says to meoh, this is perfect, a classic
Friday Night Lights, but afamily chaos.
Shot, here is your roast.
And it says welcome to thebleacher section of judgment,
where the snacks are cold, thevibes are weirder and not one
person can agree on where tolook, because everyone's looking

(37:22):
all over the place.
All right, front left, whichwould be my daughter, who's a
math teacher at Liberty.
Welcome to the bleacher.
Oh wait.
Front left, throwing gang signsfrom the PTA meeting, because
her hand is out in someformation.
Somebody's been watching toomuch.
Real Housewives of Small Towns.
The front center guy, which isher husband, looks like he's

(37:43):
trying to smile, but alsoplotting how to escape without
drawing attention.
Could be likely.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
Could be true.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
Back row hoodie lady, which is that's my wife, right?
Yeah, that's my wait, is it?
Yeah, it is my wife, All right.

Speaker 4 (37:57):
How long have you been?

Speaker 1 (37:58):
married.
Well, she's got the hoodie andeverything.
That's the look of someone whodidn't sign up for any of this
and is now regretting wearingmakeup.
All right, pretty good.
Guy next to her All right, thatwould be one of my sons because
I'm next door too, but it saysdress like he's ready to
tailgate at a funeral.
Right back dude, eitherfreezing or just finished

(38:21):
yelling at kids for stepping onhis lawn possibly both.
That would be me Front rightselfie queen.
She's my other daughter takingthe picture.
She's smiling like she's aboutto sell you essential oils.
And a dream like she's about tosell you essential oils.
And a dream and a shout out tothe football gloves and elmo
beanie which is on the seat justchilling on the bench like they

(38:41):
have their own storyline.
Um, so again I didn't goscorched earth, which would have
been funnier.
Yeah, like robbie did, I'llhave to do that again sometime.
But what did you have?

Speaker 2 (38:51):
so mine was a picture of all four of us sitting on a
field stadium again, but we'reall in our Clemson gear.
We're at a Clemson stadium,it's real cold out, and so let's
see.
It says number one front rowVIP energy.
Back row ticket budget.
Y'all are out here pretendingto be courtside legends, while

(39:11):
holding it down to row 21, likethe nosebleed elite.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
How close were they in guessing where you were?
They were pretty close becausewe were up there pretty high I
was impressed.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
So this is Robbie, this is my husband.
It says dad on the left hasthat quote.
I only came for the nachos andto prove that I still fit into
my 2003 Clemson vest.
Look Respect, and he does have2003 Clemson vest.
Look Respect, and he does havea Clemson vest on.
I was impressed that they couldfind Clemson too.
Three mom's Clemson sweater, sothat's me.

(39:44):
Mom's Clemson sweater is louderthan the entire stadium
combined.
You could use that orange toguide planes in at night.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (39:52):
My next is my son, who has a pretty full beard at
the time and a hat it says.
The bearded guy in the purplehoodie looks like he's wandered
in from an e-sports tournamentand is figuring if this is
football or Quidditch.
And then Madeline is the lastone, our daughter Girl on the
right has a quote smile formom's Facebook face and a grin
that says please let this be thelast photo.

(40:14):
I'm just here for the snacks.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
That's sort of right, but she never sees a camera she
doesn't like.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
No, that's true, that's true.
Yes, very funny, but I haven'tdone the scorched.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Yeah, I'm definitely trying that next time.
That's going to be more fun.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
Yes, for sure.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
Yeah, because I love a good roast.
I like watching those rests onTV.
I mean, some of them can get alittle vulgar, but at the same
time it's just hilarious stuffComing up in just a moment we'll
have Roy Costner, chairman ofthe SC Entertainment and Music
Hall of Fame, to tell us about aspecial show going on this
weekend and some other thingscoming up with the Hall of Fame,

(40:50):
where to get tickets for theshow, and et cetera, et cetera.
And then we'll have Robbie'srecommendations for oh look,
there's the phone right there.
We don't even have to go to acommercial break.
I think we're on All right.
So, without further ado, let'sgo right to the phone line and
talk to Mr Roy Costner, chairmanof the South Carolina

(41:12):
Entertainment and Music Hall ofFame.
How are you doing today, sir?

Speaker 5 (41:16):
I'm doing great.
I hope you can hear me.

Speaker 1 (41:17):
We can hear you.
Thanks a lot for calling.
We, of course, have our buddy, justin Williams, up here.
He lives basically right aroundthe corner, but he was busy
today and I appreciate you, being the chairman of everything
going on with the Hall of Fame, taking a few minutes out to
talk to us.

Speaker 5 (41:35):
Of course, of course, I'm excited to tell you about
the things that we've got goingon.

Speaker 1 (41:38):
Yeah well, first off, big thing going on this weekend
at Greenville Theater.
You've got not only a showgoing on, but honoring a couple
of local legends in the radioindustry.
Tell us about it.

Speaker 5 (41:52):
Yes, sir, so well.
First, about the South CarolinaEntertainment Music Hall of
Fame.
For those that don't know, ofcourse it's all about those
people who are from the state ofSouth Carolina or have been
involved in South Carolina thathave had national recognition
and shine a positive light ineither the entertainment or
music industry.
And there are two better peopleto honor with.

(42:14):
That are Bill Love and HowardHudson from the Love and Hudson
Morning Show on WMII 102.5, andtheir 50 years plus of radio
broadcast experience.
So we were excited.
Our board got together and saidyou know, we need to take this
opportunity to honor thembecause they've already been

(42:35):
doing so much work with the Hallof Fame and just kind of
donating their time to do that.
The show is something that I'mvery, very proud of and never
quite realized it would do this.
Of course, if you're, anyonethat's under the age of 45 is
not going to know what I'mtalking about, but the show is

(42:57):
called the Casey Kasem Top 40Countdown Experience For those
that are under 45 or for folksin college or high school.
If you know who Ryan Seacrestis, Casey Kasem was the
predecessor to Ryan Seacrest inAmerican Top 40.
Crest um, an american top 40.
What we did was we created theshow that.
That actually makes you feellike you've gone back in time

(43:19):
and you're listening to a liveradio performance.
Uh, with the voice of caseycasem and howard hudson, who
were inducted into the hall offame.
Is the voice of casey casem?
Uh, bill love has been ourspokesperson for the show that
we tested last year and we begina tour across the multiple

(43:39):
states and it starts thisweekend at the Greenville
Theater.
So we're very excited about theshow and about the opportunity
to induct Bill Love and HowardHudson into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (43:52):
And how the show goes .
You actually have Howard Hudson, as you said, the voice of
Casey Kasem, and then you have alive band performing the songs,
right?

Speaker 5 (44:01):
That's exactly right.
And the cool thing that it'snot just any live band On stage
are Hall of Famers who they'reepic recording artists.
Who toured Mark Lister and PhilLister from the band Dixiana,
and that whole band got puttogether.
We've toured Mark Lister andPhil Lister from the band Dick
Sienna and that whole band gotput together.
And then our lead vocalist, mrChris Cooper.

(44:25):
He toured with Gold City.
He's got that high tenor voicebut he can sing some of those
songs from the 70s and 80s likenobody's business.
So it's almost like watching aBroadwayway show rather than I'm
going to go hear a band play.
This is truly an experiencebecause you have all of the, the
jingles and the number 40 andand while a song is being played

(44:46):
it's timed out to where you seethe original artist video on
stage in a kind of a retrolooking massive TV screen.
For example, if it's good, thesong Pretty Woman is one of the
songs I'm not going to say whatnumber it is, but it's one of
the songs and you see RoyOrbison up there playing and it
looks like it's.

(45:06):
It's synced in with Chrissinging the words or singing the
the song for Pretty Woman.
So it's it's.
It's quite an experience.
The stage looks like arecording studio and so you kind
of get that vibe that you're inthe studio, kind of watching
all this play out.

Speaker 1 (45:24):
That's pretty cool because a lot of stations still
play Casey Kasem's top 40.
A lot of the oldies stations, and I think they have it on the
70s station, on sirius xm, and Imean you can hear it all over
the place.
Um, and I still remember when Iwas growing up I certainly
listened to it.

(45:44):
Holly probably too, becauseshe's oh yeah, she's getting up
there and I don't know how oldrobbie is, but but uh, it was a
part of the weekend was tolisten to that show and the long
distance dedications and allthat kind of stuff.
So tell people how they can gettickets.
It's at the Greenville theater,right?

Speaker 5 (46:01):
It's at the Greenville theater, but the the
the place to get tickets is.
You can go to the Carolinafameorg, which is the South
Carolina entertainment musichall of fame page.
Click there to get tickets.
You can also get tickets bygoing to the
CaseyKasemExperiencecom, whichis just the website for the band

(46:23):
.
The band's called we're callingourselves the Coast to Coast
Band, which is cool, I guess.
Like I said, this is one ofthose things that we thought,
hey, this will be a cool idea.
Let's just see what happens.
And it blew up and it becomes agreat way for the Hall of Fame
to produce and market the show, because a portion of the

(46:43):
proceeds go back to the Hall ofFame to allow us to continue to
do more shows like this and ourinduction shows and things like
that.
And now I've been on the phoneall day.
We've got a lot of localcelebrities not even local
celebrities, a lot ofcelebrities that are going to be
making an appearance at thisshow.
There's an actor, his name'sFred Golly.
He's driving up Some of theladies from the Miss America and

(47:08):
Mrs America are going to bethere.
I know that.
Shoot, the Marshall Tucker Band.
That guy's been invited.
David has been invited.
I know that we think some ofthe folks from Politics World,
the county council and BentonBlunt he's supposed to be there,

(47:32):
and so I think it's going to bekind of a who's who of who's
going to come up.
And the very next weekend we'llbe at North Myrtle Beach and
we'll be inducting Leon Everettinto the Hall of Fame during the
Casey Kasem show.
He's actually driving up tothis show because he wants to
come hang out and see everybody.
So I mean he'll be there too.

(47:52):
So it's really going to be anexciting time.
And it's an exciting time forthe Hall of Fame because we're
working towards creating astandalone entertainment complex
location and we hope it's goingto be in the upstate of South
Carolina.

Speaker 1 (48:09):
Well, that's awesome.
Is the show the same all thetime or do they switch it up
with the music a little bit?

Speaker 5 (48:15):
So the show stays the same same all the time, or do
they switch it up with the musica little bit?
So the show stays the same.
Here's the plan, because itjust started last year.
We did Christmas shows lastyear and we redid the show for
2025.
So it will be the same as we goto different cities in 2025,
but then it will change.

(48:36):
By the time we get to Christmasit will change again and then
it will change for 2026.
We have dates already bookedall the way through into 2026.

Speaker 1 (48:44):
That's awesome.
I'm glad this has taken offVery cool.
My son actually was able towork on the crew a little bit
for the first couple of shows.
When you guys just got started,ah cool, and he was amazed that
it just took off the way it did.
So it's really cool that you'regoing to be able to go out on
tour and such with this concept.
It's really really interesting.

(49:04):
Hoping to see it myself thisweekend.
So tell us what else is goingto happen, go ahead.

Speaker 5 (49:10):
You said please come.

Speaker 1 (49:12):
I can't wait to see you in person.
Yes, we've talked to you acouple of times now over the
years, but anything else goingon that we need to know about?

Speaker 5 (49:19):
Well, the Hall of Fame has got so many cool things
that are going on.
As a matter of fact, I just gotoff the phone with the folks
from the Grand Ole Opry.
We're heading up that way topresent an award to the board of
directors there because they'rein their 100-year celebration

(49:39):
and a lot of the folks fromSouth Carolina have played on
the stage at the Grand Ole Opryso we wanted to at least
recognize them.
We are working on a new showconcept that will be kind of a
not a Casey Kasem type thing, but more of a Hall of Fame tour
that we'll test it again andmake sure that the concept works

(50:02):
, but if we can bring backmultiple Hall of Famers to come
and perform in one show, so it'snot just a country show, it's
not just one type of band, butyou've got a variety of music
along with celebrities, whetherit's somebody like Nanny Faye
Crisley from the TV show CrisleyKnows Best or Vanna White to
come out on stage.

(50:23):
I mean, those are the thingsthat it's just in concept stage
now, but anything that we can doto continue to get the word out
about the Hall of Fame.
And then also we're working onanother concept which is called
a Hometown Fame Tour, which hasan educational component for
those kids that are hey, one dayI want to make it into the Hall

(50:44):
of Fame.
What do I have to do to getthere?

Speaker 1 (50:46):
Oh, that's great, that's neat.
Get some of our kids involvedin that.

Speaker 5 (50:50):
Right and it's kind of combining the concept of I
look at it like.
America's Got Talent mixed withAmerican Pickers that's a weird
way to describe it, but it'llbe something that'll happen in
five cities across the state andculminate in one big event.
And of course we are.
We are continuing to worktowards our big induction show,

(51:13):
which will be in the spring ofnext year.

Speaker 1 (51:15):
All right, Well listen, Roy.
Thanks a lot for checking inwith us.
Obviously, you're welcome anytime.
It sounds great what the Hallof Fame's got going on, and all
the best to you.
Thanks for calling.

Speaker 5 (51:27):
Thanks for having me on.
I really appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (51:30):
All right, no problem , and hopefully we get to meet
him next.
Well, this coming weekend.
All right, no problem, andhopefully we get to meet him
next.
Well, this coming weekend we'rehoping to go to the show.
You ought to go, holly.

Speaker 2 (51:38):
Yeah, see what's going on this weekend.

Speaker 1 (51:40):
I heard it's really good.
I'm sure it is.
Do you have something going onthat's more pressing, Because I
remember the last time you saidyou were going to be somewhere
the chili cook-off.

Speaker 2 (51:48):
I know and I had things going, I told he's such a
busy person.

Speaker 1 (51:50):
Right, it's going to be pressing the time We'll see,
we'll see.
All right, so you're not goingto be there, all right.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
Let's finish this.
I'm not going to be thereeither.

Speaker 1 (52:02):
I didn't even ask Robbie.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
I'm a single mom.
This weekend.
Robbie's gone, it's just me andMadeline, so it's really going
to depend on her social calendar.
Oh there you go Around here.

Speaker 1 (52:17):
Yeah, easily, oh okay .
Yeah, those can be hit or miss, but have a good time.
All right, it is time.
We're about to wrap up the show, so it is time for our guest
recommendations that will go inthe memoir book that I'm writing
for some day.
I haven't even started yet.
I haven't even been in theconcept.
In fact, that's the closestI've come to doing it.

(52:38):
Just mentioning it right nowJust mention it, but every week
we have our guests giverecommendations on entertainment
what they're reading, whatthey're watching they're binging
, what movie, whatever musiclistening to, and then food
where they've eaten lately thatthey can recommend some dish,

(53:00):
whatever.
Uh, robbie, we know is is anexpert.
This is not a fat joke oranything.
Okay, just stay off it, becauseI get it all the time myself.
This guy knows food.
Oh, yeah, he does, and um so infact, the last time, one of the
last times you were on, youtold me about the hot chicken in
Greenville and I went there.

Speaker 4 (53:22):
It was very good and it was very hot.

Speaker 1 (53:25):
I do remember that my wife is like I don't know if we
can come here again, it's justtoo hot, but it was good.

Speaker 3 (53:31):
Well, you can't go back now because it closed it,
but it was good.
Well, you can't go back nowbecause it closed.
It did, didn't it?

Speaker 1 (53:34):
Yeah, that's right, wasn't that recently?
Yeah, yeah, I thought so, Ithought I saw that.
So I guess we should have gonemore often, that's right.
Anyway.
So what do you have, robbie?
What have you been watching, listening to, binging whatever
in the entertainment world?

Speaker 3 (53:57):
I actually missed the book club today at palmetto
high.
You know to come here, uh, butwe read a fantastic book called
the happiest man on earth andit's it's.
It's basically a life story ofa man that uh lived through, uh,
the holocaust, and I mean it'sa fantastic book, it's an easy
read.
The man's name's eddie, jacu oryaku, I'm not sure how you
would pronounce it, butfantastic book.

Speaker 1 (54:18):
The Happiest man on Earth.

Speaker 3 (54:20):
Yep, all right, that's a great recommendation.

Speaker 1 (54:22):
All right, what about food?
What do you got for us here?

Speaker 3 (54:26):
Our latest thing we've kind of been all a little
crazed about, and this happenedfor my birthday.
I said, hey, I want to go tothis place.
I told my wife, um, right atthe end of deer hunting season,
I'm riding through the countrybecause I'd shot a deer and I
needed to go pick it up and so Ihad this just random way to get
to where I was picking it up.

(54:46):
And I'm just riding through thecountry and I'm like is that a
restaurant out in the middle ofgray court?
And there's like all kind ofchristmas lights out in the yard
beside it, court, gray Court.
There's like all kind ofChristmas lights out in the yard
beside it too.
I'm like that's cool.
So anyway, you know, I made anote of the restaurant I'm
coming back there.
So on my birthday in Januarythat's where I said I want to go
there for my birthday and it'scalled Boondocks Fish Camp and

(55:08):
Barbecue House in Gray Court andI'm telling you it is good.

Speaker 1 (55:15):
Well, I certainly should be able to remember that
name.

Speaker 2 (55:17):
Boondocks, I have not been there, john.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
Whoa, I know, see, you got her.
Normally, everybody recommendsthings that I've never heard of,
she's already been there.

Speaker 3 (55:25):
But you got her, you get the prize tonight and I'll
tell you since then myfather-in-law's been there every
week.

Speaker 2 (55:31):
Really, no, every week.
Yes, he and his wife go everyweek really no.

Speaker 3 (55:33):
So what?
Yes they, he and his wife, goevery week southern seafood and
barbecue.

Speaker 1 (55:38):
So what's, uh, what's good there?
What did you have?

Speaker 3 (55:40):
my favorite thing is the uh, salt and pepper catfish.
I like catfish because it's alittle juicier than like
flounders and stuff like that,so salt and pepper catfish is my
favorite all right, right.

Speaker 1 (55:52):
Yeah, I like some catfish.
I haven't had that in a while.

Speaker 2 (55:57):
Wow, the food looks great.

Speaker 3 (55:58):
Yeah, you can get it either in fillets or bites.
I like the bites, but if you'renot feeling like seafood, you
can get barbecue.
They have ribs and those kindof things too.

Speaker 4 (56:08):
I had the hash and it was really good.

Speaker 2 (56:18):
I thought a little bit spicy.

Speaker 3 (56:18):
a little bit too spicy for my wife, but I like
spicy.
But that's a great place,Reasonably priced too.
Oh yeah, yeah, it's veryreasonable.
Like I said, we've been backthere several times.
That's where she wanted to gofor her birthday, just a week
after my birthday.

Speaker 2 (56:31):
So you all went there .
Yeah, we've been there a fewtimes now, definitely trying
that, definitely birthday, soy'all went there.

Speaker 3 (56:41):
yeah, we've been there definitely trying that
definitely trying that.

Speaker 1 (56:42):
It's on the list boondocks great name, great name
in gray court.
So what is what I don't thinkI've?

Speaker 3 (56:43):
gone to anywhere in gray court on purpose before.
Well, from where I live, it'sjust about 20 minutes, because I
lived right on the fringe ofpossum kingdom, that's one of
the greatly named well I mean isthere really a possum kingdom.
There is, I mean there is.

Speaker 2 (56:56):
There's royalty.

Speaker 1 (56:58):
I can show you a sign .

Speaker 2 (56:59):
There's a sign, okay, so the sign is what makes it?
Yeah, okay, the possum is ruled, it's on a barn.
Oh okay, yeah, of course.

Speaker 1 (57:07):
Well, there you go Well, Principal Roach, thank you
.
Thank you so much for spendingtime with us here today.

Speaker 4 (57:13):
It's always fun when you come around.
It is.

Speaker 1 (57:15):
And here's the thing we're going to do, that food
thing.
Next year we're going to havesome different things to try,
maybe from some of the thingsyou brought up on and off the
air, and maybe some restaurants.

Speaker 3 (57:28):
I already know what I'm bringing.
What are you bringing?
Well, kind of a tradition westarted last year during
Master's Week is my wife willmake egg salad, just like they
have at the Master's, and that'swhat we eat at the admin lunch
table when the first day of theMaster's starts, because we have
it on the TVs in the lunch room.

Speaker 1 (57:46):
Oh yeah, so what kind of potato salad is it?
It's egg salad, oh, egg salad.
I'm sorry, I don't know whatI'm saying.

Speaker 3 (57:51):
Egg salad, egg salad sandwiches you can buy there for
$1.50 each.

Speaker 2 (57:55):
And they're delicious , they're amazing.
They're just on white bread.
Yep, you've been to the Masters.

Speaker 3 (58:01):
Yeah, my wife will make it and we'll get some
Wonder Bread.

Speaker 2 (58:04):
Yeah, their pimento cheese are good too, Yep.

Speaker 1 (58:08):
All right, see, I would just throw it out.
I just think that the way shemade wasn't seasoned.
Right Now that I've gottenolder, I've appreciated it more

(58:28):
because of the different waysyou can season it.

Speaker 2 (58:31):
Where did your wife get the recipe?
Did she find it online?

Speaker 3 (58:35):
We've just been there a few times, we've been to the
masters a few times, so you know, she just made it a few
different ways and we're likethis is just like what we have
there so that's how she does.
It's pretty cool, yeah, yeah, okay, put that all the all the
guys that sit at the admin tablelove it.
You know they they'll talkabout it all year leading up.
But hey, when is the masters?

Speaker 1 (58:55):
so we can have our egg salad all right, sounds good
, and so we'll see you likesometime in august or september,
all right, all right, yeah, befun but, again, thanks for
coming it.
It was a rough day today andI'm glad he came.
He's like made my day and thisis what the show's for at the
end of the day was uh, to justhave some fun.

(59:15):
I think we've done that.
We've learned how to roast ourfamilies.
And we're going to do somescorched earth of that coming up
.
I'm sure we'll have it in thefamily chat thing tonight.
And we've learned about somegreat food and, of course,
robbie's response to all thestudent questions and of course,
now we know who Big Mustang is.
So yeah, we learned a lotduring today's show.

Speaker 2 (59:39):
Maybe you'll make a fable for our show next time A
fable.

Speaker 3 (59:44):
I mean I could do that.
That's a great idea.

Speaker 1 (59:46):
Yeah, share a fable for our show.

Speaker 3 (59:48):
I don't use Chad GBT for that Chad.

Speaker 1 (59:51):
GPD Chad GPD.

Speaker 2 (59:53):
I do that myself.

Speaker 3 (59:54):
Yes, it's for that, chad.

Speaker 2 (59:54):
Jepede, chad Jepede, I do that myself.

Speaker 1 (59:55):
Yes, it's an original , that's right Next week, still
up in the air but the week afterwill be our last show of the
school year, and that's MaryBortz, so is she going to be
more entertaining than RobbieRoach?

Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
She's pretty entertaining.
She's pretty entertaining, andwe're not hitting Adam this year
.
He's so busy.

Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
He can't make it.
Yeah, yeah, sounds sketchy, yeah, sketchy to me I mean
remember last year he won thebasketball tournament that we
had with his one shot.
I could see him being prettybusy, you know, riding around in
Jerome Singleton's pocketBecause you know he basically
works for the high school leagueand not Anderson 1.

Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
All right, I'm going to cut this.

Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
You're welcome to quote me.

Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
Yeah, I'm going to cut the clip from the show and
send it to him.
And say, listen, we still got acouple of dates left you need
to get on, that's right, or elsethis will accelerate.

Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
