Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everybody,
welcome to another season of the
Boone Show on my Pulse Radio.
Happy to be with you.
I'm John Boone and the bosslady's here, Holly.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
John, how many
seasons is this?
Six, six seasons, yep, that'sunbelievable, it is unbelievable
.
That me, and you sit on thisshow for six years.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
It is.
It's gone by very, very quickly, very quickly.
Uh, we have a couple of greatguests here.
This is like, uh, if, as I lookaround, it's just power women
everywhere there you go.
That's what I'm about um, butwe have got the uh ceo of the
anderson area chamber ofcommerce, brandy greer, is here.
(00:42):
Hello, hey, welcome to how areyou.
Welcome to the show.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
It was nice talking
to you earlier, big radio fan
from over the years.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
I am.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
So now you get to do
it yourself.
Yeah, take over the show.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
No, no, no, that's
what your predecessor did Anyway
.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
That's how we started
.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
That's how we started
six years ago.
How we started was because ofthe old ceo.
How about that?
The old isn't that cool, theold ceo?
Yep, that's a bad segue to ournext guest, which is, uh, angie
stringer, making her annualappearance here, one of the
nicest people in the world andexecutive director of the cancer
association of anderson.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
Welcome back it's
great to be back.
Thank you for letting me come.
Yeah, we always like to see herhere more than once a year, but
anytime you know it's balloontime if Angie's here, absolutely
so.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
We'll be talking
about all about the hot air
affair and what the CancerAssociation is doing, but first
we will go to our rookie.
Our rookie, our rookie guest, and I will grill her for the
next 10 to 15 minutes aboutwhat's going on at the chamber.
(01:51):
So, brandy, first off, though, tell us a little bit about
yourself and what brought you towhere you are today.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Okay, well, I have
lived in Anderson my whole life.
My family is from here and welive on a small family farm on
the south side of anderson, kindof in the middle of belton star
, iva.
We're almost like a hubcap inthe middle of everything.
We have two adult children whoare both married, and then our
son was gracious enough to giveus our first granddaughter, who
basically rules our life.
(02:19):
So, um, whatever we can do withsutton at any day and time
we're down for.
So you know, just live a prettysimple life.
I'm a little boring, I hate tosay, but I found my way to the
chamber years ago when I workedfor Senior Solutions.
Doug had me sit in his seat fora year on public policy, just
kind of fill in and do somethings on that end, and I ended
(02:41):
up being an ambassador and fellin love with it and had no idea
that it would lead me to where Iam today.
But I guess that was the paththat was meant to be and I'm
just so honored and excited toget to do this.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yeah, holly, she's
been someone that's been
involved in all kinds of thingsAbsolutely.
A lot of places and naturalchoice really to lead the
Chamber of Commerce.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Absolutely.
Which was what?
Speaker 1 (03:03):
this summer you're
officially made the ceo the 16th
.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Yes, sir,
congratulations, but you've been
there for what about four?
Speaker 2 (03:10):
four or five years
already yeah, um four and a half
years, five years in february, but very involved in the
community prior to that, so it'snot like this is she's the
first time in anderson county, yeah, like she's been all over
so and I think that's animportant part of of what a CEO
should have.
Is involvement in the communityin the first place, prior to
being paid to do it.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Yes, All right, now
she has some interesting things
about her that, um, before weget to the serious stuff, um, we
made sure that she had a DietCoke here on the desk.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
That is so important.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yes, Because her
obsession is real.
I just thought it was like alittle thing until I found out
that the obsession is real.
So we got her a Diet Coke andyour hero, I hear, is like Elle
Woods from Legally Blonde.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Oh, how did you find
that Y'all do your research?
I tell you, I do my research.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
But how did that
happen?
Speaker 3 (04:04):
How do you see?
Speaker 1 (04:04):
her in your song.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
I really don't know
how this came about.
I'm assuming that I knowexactly who you talk to, because
that really gave it away.
I love the movie I am a 90s kid, so it is what it is, and I
love Pink.
But it's been really funny thatthere's sort of like an inside
joke about how that kind of cameupon her little route and my
(04:26):
little route to my position.
But yeah, I love Elle.
She's just authentically her.
Yeah, makes no excuse for it,and she just is who she is.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Okay, all right.
And another contradiction, well, a contradiction she has in
life is her football allegiance, which we found out as well.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Clemson until there's
a tide that comes in.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
I know I will roll
tide.
At least I'm loyal, at least Ican't explain it.
I can't expect anybody tounderstand it.
I've met one other person whothinks like me and instantly
liked her.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
And did you go there?
No, no, no.
So how did this come about?
Speaker 3 (05:07):
I'm from you, know,
know.
I was born in south georgia andmy papa pulled for alabama.
He had a friend that was bigclemson fan and it just over the
years that's just how it wasand what he said went so yeah
and hey in several years, in the90.
I didn't go wrong either way soI thought it was pretty smart
one or yeah, but I will always,at the end of the day, roll tide
.
She can be wrong once.
(05:28):
Yeah, I can be wrong once in awhile, and I like houndstooth.
It all looks good.
That's what it is.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
And one other
embarrassing thing before we
move on.
I've heard that one of yourgoals in life was to be a Dallas
Cowboys cheerleader.
And.
I just need to know.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
I was not successful.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Nor did.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
I try.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Thank goodness, you
will not see me on the Netflix
series or a hee-haw honeyactually.
Yeah.
That was.
Was that like a teenage thing,or earlier than that Like?
Speaker 3 (05:57):
small child thing at
my papa's house Every Saturday
night.
They watched hee-haw andevidently I just thought that
was the coolest thing ever andso were you ever a cheerleader
or anything?
Speaker 1 (06:06):
no, no, I know I
thought that coordinated, but
for some reason at like six.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
I thought that's cool
now she can watch it on Netflix
.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
I do yeah, I really
do when I get ready so maybe
Sutton will be a crimsonette oneday or something.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
All right.
So let's talk about the chamberand you, as Holly mentioned,
worked in nonprofit work andstuff leading up to the chamber.
What do you think from theother things that you worked on
and in and for leading up tothis job has really helped you
do this job.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Oh, wow.
I'm always going to go back toSenior Solutions.
We were so ingrained in so manythings with the senior
community.
It's so humbling andeye-opening to just realize how
many things that they are facedwith from transportation to
housing to food, building acommunity and things like that
(07:08):
and it just built my love fornonprofit.
I will always be a hugeadvocate for them.
They do work that people justdon't even realize that they do.
But I think it gave me I willsay he gave me the footing to
love it.
Carol Burdett gave me thebackbone to stick through it.
It's not easy work.
You have to do it and I thinkAngie would completely agree.
(07:30):
You have to really, really lovenonprofit because it, if you
work in nonprofit, itencompasses your whole entire
life.
You do take it home with youand you have to be willing to do
that so that footing on thatside be willing to do that.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
So that footing on
that side, I think, is what gave
me the best start in it, and itseems like too, from what I've
read you seem to have really anopen door kind of policy to hear
from all these businesses, encouraging them to come talk to
you and setting up times forthem to talk to each other.
Tell us a little bit about howthat works.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
I mean, everybody
matters.
Every single business matters.
You know, there's that oldsaying it takes all kinds of
kinds it does.
It takes the entrepreneur, theone man show, the food truck,
the small business, the mediumbusiness, the large business.
If you had all industry here, your community wouldn't work.
You still have to have theboutiques, you still have to
have the restaurants, you haveto have the gas stations.
(08:24):
So every single businessmatters to us.
It doesn't matter what you do.
You are valid and you arevalued.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Tell us about some of
the things that you're doing
there.
I noticed with the youth youhave a big thing summer camp,
yeah, so we have a juniorleadership program that is going
to its 33rd year.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
It is actually a
project that came from our
leadership Anderson group andthat is for high school juniors.
So if you are a high schooljunior or know a high school
junior, their guidancecounselors are going to be
reaching out to them very, verysoon and someone from our junior
leadership advisory committeewill be coming out to talk to
you about how to apply for that.
So it's an abbreviated form ofour leadership program.
(09:03):
So they will start in Januaryor run through May.
They have a graduation.
They have a couple of sectorsthat they go and visit from
nonprofit, local government, industry, education and they
also have a community serviceday that we'll be working with
Anderson County Pals on.
We did that last year and itwas very successful.
So we did an adoption event anda drive to get supplies for
(09:26):
them.
So we're going to make it awhole lot bigger this year.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
So Well, that's cool.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
And.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Angie, I see you
shaking your head, because a lot
of this stuff is stuff you'refamiliar with that you do as
well.
And um, we'll certainly hearwhat's.
What's the latest stuff on yourplate, uh?
Speaker 2 (09:41):
coming up and to
encompass that too.
Not just junior, juniorleadership, but there's also
leadership anderson, yeah, whichis in their 40th year yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
So we are going to
graduate this year's 40th class
in november and um to piggybackoff of that um, we are going to
start the leadership andersonalumni association back.
So we're going to have a hugeevent next year celebrating 40
years of that.
We're going to call it the rubyjubilee and um more to come on
that, but that's going to be abig, big event in anderson.
(10:07):
We are going to have acollective class project that
we'll be working on.
It's going to be something veryimpactful and it's it's one of
those projects that will keep ongiving throughout the year.
So we are very excited toannounce what that is cool,
we'll look forward to that.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
I know you have a lot
of other events.
You have a golf tournament,right?
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Yes, golf tournament
September 25th at Pine Lake.
We have a few not many, but afew spots left open for teams
and a couple of sponsorships.
So if you're interested in that, contact me or Liz and we can
take care of that for you.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
All right, and the
proceeds go to where.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
The chamber.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
I mean there are
other like for instance I know
you support some scholarshipsand stuff.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Yeah, definitely.
So there we have a reduced ratefor junior leadership.
It's very cost effective forthat to go through.
If someone can't afford there,we don't ask any questions.
They go through that.
And then leadership.
There are different tiers tothat, whether you're a member or
not.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
That's awesome.
So what?
Do you have any other eventscoming up that you'd like to?
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Yeah, november the
6th at Anderson University, we
have our final taste in topicsfor the year.
We're going to have the SouthCarolina Attorney General, alan
Wilson, coming to speak, sothat's usually highly attended.
He does a really good jobtalking about things he's
working on in the state, sowe're looking forward to having
him too.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
All right.
So what do you think?
What are you putting out therethat you want to accomplish?
If there was one thing youwanted to accomplish, like in
the next five years, what do youthink that would be?
Speaker 3 (11:31):
That we are the first
thing on your mind when you
start a business or run acrossan event in your business,
whether it's good or bad.
If there's some remarkable timein your business that we are
the first people you call.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
And you have a lot of
other smaller events.
Yes, also, if you go to thewebsite, the Anderson Chambers
website, there are also someafter work things that y'all do.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Business after hours.
We have all those booked for2025.
The next one is in September at215 Society Street and then in
October is at the AndersonCounty Art Center and then in
November will be at Grotto's.
I do not have those dates infront of me, but those are on
the calendar.
They are $5 a person to come, which is super cost effective
(12:16):
event.
You just register online, whether you're a chamber member
or not, to come to those.
Those are $5 for everybody.
We always say it's everybody'sfavorite networking event.
It's the most laid back, easiest way to network and build
your professional community.
We also are offering a lot ofresources.
You'll see a whole lot more ofthat pushed out in 2026.
We have worked with CommunityWorks, we've worked with Truist
Bank, we are talking with CountyBank about some things that
(12:38):
we're going to be adding, and afew other people too.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Leadership Anderson
should be.
Applications should be comingout when they're out and the
class is almost full.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
We have, I think,
three spots left.
So yeah, if you're interestedin that, you just go online,
look under our leadershipprograms and you can literally
nominate yourself or someoneelse.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Now, holly, you've
done that right.
Yes, you do that, angie, you dotoo I did the, the best class.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Thirty two, twenty
seven, twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
We were thirty eight,
the great.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Well, can you explain
a little bit of that to the
listeners?
What exactly goes intoleadership, Anderson?
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Yeah, it really is an
impactful day.
It's nine, ten sessions.
Is that being ten?
Now, ten sessions?
You know it's been a couple ofyears since I've done it.
You got to think they're class40 and I was 32.
You know it's been a couple ofyears since I've done it.
(13:39):
You got to think they're class40 and I was 32.
So so, yeah, you go through andthey it's really it's for those
that and pretty much divide itup into what we call it days.
So they have an education day, there's an industry day, there's
a a government day, there's astate government day, and so
they intentionally playing inthings for you to go see and
(14:01):
hear during those days.
That helps you be one a betterperson.
Maybe you can help a little bitbetter in the community, maybe
a little bit knowledgeable aboutthings that you don't know
about.
If you're not in education, then you get to go see things
and maybe be aware of thingsthat you're not getting, and
then you do some type of what dowe call it the project, class
(14:27):
project, a class project.
They do a class project to helpdo something for the community,
whether it be this year's classproject is.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
They are working with
Vets, helping Vets.
Last year they worked withFirst Light.
Last year was the lot project.
They did the transitionalhousing that is actually at the
lot project and the year beforethat was my class.
We first light, first light sothey they take something.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
It's, it's a.
If you've never been throughleadership anderson, I can tell
you, as a community member, itis well worth it, if it's not
just for the networking purposes, it's for everything else,
because you just don't know whathappens in in our area and that
affects, and how much itaffects, our area.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
I'll agree with that.
I mean we had a fabulous classand I made lifelong friends that
I still connect with.
Oh, absolutely.
I mean we are.
It's been several years since Iwent through and I still talk
to them on a weekly basis.
Some of them and we did ourproject was downtown sounds,
which that we started that anduh, just it was.
(15:29):
It was a fun.
You learn so much about how tomake things happen and get those
connections and Iwholeheartedly amen you there.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
That's awesome wow,
and that all runs through
chamber yep, yes, sir, okay, andwhat's the website people can
go to?
Speaker 3 (15:46):
It's the
andersonsechambercom, and just
make sure, if you do Google it,that you pick Anderson County.
Speaker 6 (15:52):
South Carolina,
because there's Anderson, ohio,
tennessee and Indiana.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
We've actually had a
couple of people sign up to be
members from Indiana a couple oftimes and vice versa.
So we catch them pretty quickly.
Anderson SC.
Don't forget the SC.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Okay, and a couple of
times vice versa, say we catch
him pretty quickly.
Anderson, sc Don't forget theSC.
Ok, that's great stuff.
We're going to take a quicktime out and, when we come back,
a few news bites of things thatare going on today to get your
opinion on.
And then we have sports withZach, and then it's Angie's turn
.
Tell us what's all going onwith the Cancer Association and
Hot Air Fair coming up thisweekend.
Speaker 6 (16:27):
It's Labor Day
already.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Time is flying by.
All right, we'll be back.
You're listening to the BooneShow on MyPulse Radio Envision.
Speaker 6 (16:34):

And we're back on the
Boone Show on MyPulseRadio.
I love it when we have videonow and you see everybody
scrambling.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
You're not ready yet,
are you, Mr Boone?
Speaker 1 (18:49):
But yeah, a few news
things I'd like to get your
opinion on, our guests and such.
Of course, the big news of theday is that Travis Kelsey and
Taylor Swift got engaged, so wehave to talk about that very
quickly and not take too muchtime.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Did that have
anything to do with that little
album thing that she releasedwith the little log?
Well, she was on the podcast, but that was a couple of weeks
ago, Right right.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
And the podcast, as a
matter of fact, is the whole
reason why they got together.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Because he had said
how he wanted to meet her at a
concert and you know he's gotsome pull being a professional
football player but he couldn'tget down to see her at a concert
and she got word of it andcalled him and the rest was
history.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
So, Mr Boone, are you
a closet Taylor?
Speaker 7 (19:42):
Swift fan.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
I'm just asking.
No, I'm not Okay.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
I'm a big Jason
Kelsey fan.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Okay, fair enough.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
So you know, I've
watched their podcast a lot and
of course, jason was on my teamthe Eagles and all that.
So you know I knew a lot ofwhat was going on.
But yeah, I don't like the mixof Taylor Swift and football
especially, but hey, good forthem.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
I don't feel so bad.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
We'll see how long
they last and until she needs
more lyrics from more songsabout breakups.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
But they've been
together two years already.
Is she going to start writinglittle songs now?
Speaker 1 (20:23):
That's the thing.
Can she do that?
I don't know, but I'll have toadmit I listen who is travis and
tatey, but the thing I've beenliving under the cool thing, the
funny thing about it was travissaid he knew how to treat her
because he listened to all ofher songs so that's why he why
(20:46):
he's doing so well Because heheard all the lyrics about the
guys that didn't do so well andhe made sure he didn't make the
same mistakes.
Speaker 5 (20:55):
You don't want to be
a song.
I just want to see what thering looks like.
You don't want to wind up inone of Taylor Swift's songs.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
What does the ring
look like, Mr Bain?
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
And I was trying to
find out if there was some
elaborate thing they did.
But all they released at thetime that I saw, because
evidently it happened today wasjust, you know, him on a knee
proposing, and that was this.
I don't know where they were orwhat the situation was.
The ring is probably as big asa Super Bowl ring.
Who?
Speaker 2 (21:22):
knows.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Correct those things
are gigantic, but yeah, they're
the power couple of of celebritydumb now.
So, uh, we'll see.
We'll see what happens and seehow far she can go without
having to dump him to get moremusic written so okay, here's
something interesting for y'all.
(21:42):
Uh ways, you know, that weighsthe app that you drive, which is
great don't use anything otherthan yeah, me too.
I love it, and and even my, mykids will say why are you using
it now?
You know where you're going.
You're just going home and I'mlike I gotta know what the
traffic is, you know?
Exactly which works out verywell too that's right, unless.
(22:03):
I'm the first one to report one.
Speaker 6 (22:05):
And then it's like I
get a little nervous, but Waze
is great.
Speaker 11 (22:10):
Well, anyway, it's
funny.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
The co-founder of
Waze predicts that the next
generation of kids will notdrive, will not even bother with
learning to drive.
He says that within a decade, most paid mobility and
transportation services will beit.
That'll be the thing.
Oh, wow, that'll be the thing.
(22:32):
He compared the shift todriverless cars to past
automations like elevatoroperators.
Don't need them anymore, youcan push your own buttons, right
.
He helped build.
There's another app.
It's called Move.
It is where you can plan awhole trip, and he predicts that
kids that are born today knownas Generation Beta by the way,
(22:55):
we're back to the beginning ofthe alphabet will never end up
behind the wheel and ageneration after that.
If you tell them that you usecars, they won't believe you
because they will be takeneverywhere and I see some signs
of that.
Speaker 6 (23:10):
Does anybody see that
.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
I see kids that are
getting their license late in
life, if they get it at all.
I mean late in life, I meanlike in their 20s, before
they're getting it.
One of my sons had a girlfriendthat was older than him and
she's mid-20s didn't have herlicense and he actually was the
one that taught her how to driveand she went and got her
(23:33):
license.
But it's like people don't careas much anymore because it's so
easy calling uber so you'resaying that people will not
drive?
they'll still go places yeah, they'll go places, but something
else will take them right likean
Speaker 2 (23:46):
like an u, but
without a person in it.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Yeah, those are a
thing now.
Those are a thing now too.
Oh yeah, I wouldn't do it but.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
I know I'm not that
brave.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
But think about it If
you're going a regular place,
like you've got a shorter routeto get to work, if you take an
Uber, that may be moreconvenient than actually driving
there using the gas and allthat and you don't have to do
anything.
You just sit there.
You're taken everywhere.
Hey, jeeves, take me home.
(24:15):
They ought to have a thing likeUber, just called Jeeves.
They should.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
But that's
interesting and I see it sort of
happening.
Yeah, Angie, you say yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:24):
I've seen a few
people like that.
My um, I have some family thatmoved up north and they have
people all around them and thekids are like I'm like we
couldn't wait to get our license, you know.
But they they don't have theirlicense and don't care to get it
.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Neither one of mine
did till they were seniors in
high school.
Wow, both of them had a car,but neither one of them cared
about it.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Yeah well, there's my
mind I was knocking on the door
that morning, so was I but inwhen and when I, where I grew up
in new jersey, they youcouldn't get your permit till 17
wow, so I was basically asenior, yeah at when I was just
getting my permit.
I couldn't wait to do it, butthese kids is like oh well, yeah
, I'll just get somebody else todrive me around.
(25:04):
Or when they get their firstjob, just take an Uber.
Interesting, and I know peoplewho let their kids do that all
the time to go to school and allthat.
Just take an Uber.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Which I don't know if
I'd be doing that, but I know
people that do it, yeah, especially like in New York.
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah.
Well yeah, you don't want todrive up there anyway, no but,
interesting interesting.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Um well, and today is
national dog day.
I have to throw that in beforewe go to zach.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
National dog day I
mean, come on, how many dogs do
you have, john?
A lot, a lot I mean total.
We probably have about a dozen, but not they don't all live in
the house, right, right, but,and for those of you don't all
live in a house, right, rightand for those of you who don't
know, we breed golden retrievers.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
kind of slowed that
down and retiring a bunch of
them, but that's what we did fora while.
As a matter of fact, we havesome available now.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
This is not a plug we
have some 12-week-old puppies
that are available.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Yeah, full-blooded
golden retrievers, just go to
GreatCreekCaninescom.
Speaker 7 (26:09):
But anyway it is.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
National Dog Day.
So do something to show yourdog some appreciation.
Get him a pup cup or something.
And, brandy, take that mascotyou got over there at the
chamber.
I mean I know it's late now,but tomorrow take him out, get
(26:30):
him something good, he can havewhatever he wants, that's what.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
I thought you'd say
he's a star.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
He is.
We answer to Tucker.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
Every day is dog day
for Tucker.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
It really is.
I mean, he's like a littlecelebrity in the chamber and my
dog McDreamy.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
I have to put a plug
in for him.
Mcdreamy I have to put a plugin for him McDreamy, he's a
border collie and he is spoiled, rotten, but that's okay.
He's our therapy dog.
In training he may never betrained.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
Do you take him to
work?
Speaker 5 (26:53):
I have.
Yeah, he's still kind of hyper, but less than he was.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Our dog, one of our
dogs, the one that we keep close
to us.
We wanted him to be a therapydog or or even more so, um
trained, but he's one of thosedogs that would get turned down
for the police jobs.
He's too nice, he wants tosocialize with everybody, and
you can't do that.
(27:19):
If you're supposed to besomebody's support dog, you
gotta be focused on them and noteverybody else, and and you
can't be distracted.
So he's too nice, but he'sbeing trained in some ways.
So is Zach on the line overthere, danica.
Okay, let's see if this actuallyworks, if this was wired back
correctly, zach, are you there?
I'm here, there you are.
Oh, you got a football gamethis weekend.
Speaker 7 (27:42):
Yes, sir, I do, yes
sir, I do, and a doggone good
one too.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
It is Top ten matchup
.
Speaker 7 (27:48):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
So what do you think?
Speaker 7 (27:52):
I think it's going to
be, whichever quarterback shows
up, obviously, on Clemson'sside of the ball, there's a lot
of questions about the defensethis year.
You know, when you give up 300yards to the Citadel, um,
there's a lot of questions thatneed to be answered.
Now we're hoping that, uh,those questions were answered by
(28:16):
the new hire we got in theoffseason penn state, the former
penn state defensivecoordinator, tom allen.
Um, of course, I don't know alot about him, but I hear good
things.
And what a way to find outplaying against LSU.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Yeah, because they've
got a lot of weapons.
They've loaded up during theoffseason too.
Speaker 7 (28:36):
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah,
they've got Barryon Brown that
comes from Kentucky and you knowhe torched Clemson in the bowl
game a couple years ago.
You know, I think he had athrowing touchdown or receiving
touchdown or rushing touchdown, and I know he had a kick return
touchdown.
As a matter of fact, I think itwas the second half kick return
(28:56):
, but he torched Clemson.
So we'll see.
We'll see what we're made of.
You know, dabo said in his pressconference that we are the only
you know he's talking aboutcollege football.
We're the only you know he'stalking about college football.
We're the only league that doesnot have a preseason, and think
about that all the way going toLittle League.
You know they have jamboreesand scrimmages and stuff, and I
know jamborees are two quarters, but you still get a lot of
(29:17):
questions answered.
Yeah, so, but yeah, what a wayto start it.
I mean, I think this is thebiggest game since Deshaun Lamar
and I think I heard them saytoday that it's like one of
three or four top ten matchups.
(29:38):
I know it's like six or seven.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
It's a great first
week of football, that's for
sure Six or seven top 25matchups.
Speaker 7 (29:43):
I mean you start the
day with Ohio State, texas, then
you end it with Clemson, lsu.
I mean that's awesome.
So I'm excited.
I'm excited it's here.
It's hard to believe it's here.
Just wish I knew.
You know, I wish there wassomebody out there with a
parking pass.
You know, I've had somebodygive me parking passes for a
(30:06):
couple of seasons but I haven'theard from that person.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Now Are you going
Saturday?
Speaker 7 (30:12):
I am not.
I am not.
That's why I have not.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Well, don't beg a
parking pass, I'll get you a
parking pass, I know.
Speaker 7 (30:17):
I know.
No, I'm planning to do SMU, I'mplanning to go to that one and
we're hoping to go to GeorgiaTech again.
That's a fun trip, georgia Tech, I tell you, and realistically,
I've got Clemson probably going10-2 or 11-1, because I think
there's going to be just onegame that K doesn't play all
(30:41):
that well.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Which one?
This is it.
This is going to be the hardestgame of our season.
Speaker 7 (30:47):
You've got the Friday
night at Louisville and
Louisville torched us last yearIsaac Brown's back and he is
amazing.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
And Friday nights
have always been a curse for.
Speaker 7 (30:56):
Clemson yeah, that's
true.
And then the at South Carolinaworries me because of Lenore
Sellers.
He is a baller, I don't carewhat nobody says and Of course,
I think Clemson's going to winthe national championship every
year.
I think they're going to go15-0 every year, Bar in injury,
bar in injury.
I think Clemson is either 11-1or 11-0 going into South
(31:21):
Carolina, 10-1, 11-0 going intoSouth Carolina bar in injury.
We'll see.
I'm very, very excited.
It's hard to believe it's here.
So we will definitely get them.
Questions answered.
No, I hope I'm wrong.
But realistically, if I was abetting man it would be 10-2,
(31:45):
11-1.
I mean, I never told anybodyLenore Sellers was going to walk
into Clemson and beat them lastyear.
But he did by himself.
He single-handedly beat Clemsonby himself.
I was at the game and I toldthe guy sitting beside me you've
got to bring him down down low,he is too big to bring down up
high.
And what happened?
Single-handedly, he beat them.
And I don't like South Carolina.
I'm a Clemson fan through andthrough.
(32:06):
I don't like South Carolina,but I think they're going to
have a good year this year andit scares me playing there.
But we have done good there thelast couple of years and South
Carolina has done good atClemson the past couple of years
.
So we'll see.
I think the last four games theroad teams won it and I know
that's a little while, but it'sa long season and that's why you
(32:27):
play the games and I'm ready.
I can't get here quick enough.
I'm ready All right.
Well, quickly, I need you totalk about your high school
football team.
I did not go Friday night.
You didn't have to I thinkeverybody knew what was going to
happen.
Yeah, we were at.
For years we have made thefirst game of the year be Easley
Pickens for years, depending onwhere it's at and, of course,
(32:50):
who Wren's playing but went toEasley Pickens Friday night.
Of course Wren plays Easleythis Friday and Easley's fast.
You know, I don't know ifPickens is that bad or if
Easley's getting that much moreimproved, but we will find out
Friday night.
And I'm hearing good thingsabout Ren.
I'm hearing you know they'reyoung.
(33:11):
I'm hearing that, uh, they'vegot this player.
If, if this player is not hurt, then this can happen, all this
stuff.
But like I said about Clemson, that's why you play the game,
because anything can happen.
So we will.
we'll find out, and then I thinkI don't have the schedule in
front of me.
They play Powdersville nextweek or the week after.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
It'll be next week.
Yeah, because we're coveringthat one.
Speaker 7 (33:36):
Next week at
Powdersville.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Not this week.
Correct yes, On the 5th.
Speaker 7 (33:40):
And I love going to
games up at Powdersville.
I love going to games up atpottersville, I, I love going to
games up at pottersville, um,so that that's always a fun one,
no matter if each team's threeand oh, oh and three, one and
two, it don't matter, it'salways a barn burner.
The best game I've seen betweenthe two schools was a playoff
game a couple years ago.
That was a fun one that was, that was great so we will see,
(34:01):
we, we, we definitely will see.
and, uh, and before I'm gonnalet you go, before you make me
start talking about the Braves,Okay, good.
That's not even irrelevantright now.
That's right, I don't knowwhat's happened.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
I avoid that for a
change.
I don't hear you teasing asmuch as I used to.
Speaker 7 (34:16):
Yeah, there's nothing
to tease about.
I definitely ate my words forreal.
I don't know.
I guess they've just given up.
You know when your whole teamgets injured, your whole staff
gets injured.
That's what happens.
So you know for you, I'mpulling for the Phillies.
Speaker 9 (34:31):
There we go.
Speaker 7 (34:32):
You know, not most
people like Bryce Harper, but I
like Bryce Harper.
Speaker 6 (34:35):
I don't even like him
that much you don't bother me.
Speaker 7 (34:37):
You know People
always talk about his attitude
and what you.
Stand up there and let a95-mile-an-hour fastball come at
you and you see what happens.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Yeah, that's true,
probably a bad attitude.
Speaker 7 (34:49):
But anyway, well,
y'all take care, yep, and I
guess we'll talk to you nextweek.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
At some point,
whenever we decide to do a show
again.
Speaker 11 (34:59):
Yeah, that sounds
good, that sounds good All right
, zach, we'll see y'all.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
All right, take care,
that's Zach Howard.
Chime me in on sports.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
He's a mess.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
He is a mess, but
he's part of our show.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
That he is and we're
so glad he is.
Yes, yes.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
All right, very quick
time out, and then when we come
back, it's Angie time and we'llalso get our guest
recommendations for the week ofentertainment.

they call it in AndersonCelebrate Anderson, yes,

Speaker 1 (38:19):
Anderson weekend,
which is always a big deal,
don't they have Cool in the Gang.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
They do yes, it
should be a great concert.
I think so, although I wonderwho's left from the original
Cool in the Gang.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
They do yes Should be
a great concert, I think so,
although I wonder who's leftfrom the original Kool and the
Gang.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
Is there anybody left
?
There's like 12 people that Ithink took care.
Speaker 7 (38:33):
It's on it.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Somebody was talking
about it the other day.
It'd still be great.
Whoever's doing it, yeah, forsure It'd be a fun time.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
But so the hot air
fair is happening.
Angie, tell us what's going onwith the balloons this year?
Speaker 5 (38:47):
We'll have 40
balloons in the skies over
Anderson County.
We are so excited.
You know I still get giddy.
Next year that's going to beour catch line.
I'm going to get with Brandy,we're going to put it on the
show it's going to be.
The balloons are here, get giddywith it, you know.
So, instead of jiggy with it,we're going to get giddy with it
, yeah.
So, yeah, I'm excited.
(39:10):
I love balloons and when theygo up, there's just nothing more
exciting.
And I still do get giddy withit.
But, yes, we'll have that.
We have vendors, we have foodvendors, we have merchandise
vendors.
We have something new thisyear's which is going to be
really great.
You need to bring your mom.
(39:31):
We have a survivor's tent ohvery cool and that's our new
thing.
We're going to grow it everyyear.
Um, any survivor that comes cancome into our tent.
We're getting uh companies tocome out and sponsor it, so
they'll have snacks and drinksand giveaways and we're just
going to treat our survivorslike kings and queens.
(39:51):
And on saturday uh evening, when the balloons come out, when
it starts getting a littledarker, we're going to do a
special warrior walk and we havemedals to give all of our
warriors that come in.
I've got the balloon pilotsthat are going to do what we
call a candlestick.
Have you all seen a candlestickbefore?
(40:12):
No, they bring the baskets outand they don't put the balloon
envelope up the top of it, theyjust have the burners and they
do the candle and it's sobeautiful.
So we're going to do Rose andthe survivors are going to walk
through it.
Oh, how cool and it's sobeautiful.
So we're going to do rose andthe survivors are going to walk
through it.
Oh, how cool.
And at the end of it they'regoing to get a medal.
I am so excited.
(40:32):
I have wanted to do this forfour years and it finally came
together this year.
And I have to give a big shoutout to Anderson County and to
the city of Anderson andobviously to Blossom and Propane
.
They are amazing but we couldnot do this without them.
And the county is helping extrathis year so that we can do the
(40:53):
survivor tent, and it's justgoing to be amazing and because
that's what we're about, andAngie, what does this cost
anybody?
Speaker 2 (41:00):
The survivors it's
free.
Speaker 5 (41:03):
It's free.
And don't ask me how we make ithappen because I don't know.
It's like the loaves and fishesthing.
I'm like God.
I really want to do this forsurvivors.
I want some of our patients andsurvivors to get to go up in
balloons and to get up close andpersonal.
And every year it comestogether and I still don't know
how it happens, but it does andit's just, it's a labor of love
(41:26):
for us at the Cancer Associationto get to see that.
And we got to see your mom goup.
I got to be with her.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
It was just amazing.
Speaker 7 (41:35):
Was that last year?
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Yes, there's nothing
like it.
Speaker 5 (41:39):
There's nothing like
it.
We have one special survivorthat I adore.
Her name is Kim Strickland andshe used to be fire chief in
Anderson County and she's justan amazing gal and she's a
breast cancer survivor and shewent up and she gave the most
wonderful little advice spielabout it.
She said after going throughmonths and months of treatment
(42:02):
and just the stress and thetrauma, I had 45 minutes of pure
peace in the air.
And that sums it up.
It's like when you get up there, there's nothing like it.
It's just quiet, it's peaceful.
It's amazing, and to be able tooffer that to cancer patients
(42:23):
is amazing.
I could tell you stories thatmake you cry, but it'd make me
cry and nobody would understandme because I'd be.
But yeah, that's why we got totake Stacy up last year.
Yeah, yes.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
She just finished
everything last year and all
healed and everything, and shesaid the same thing.
She got to go up with my momand I and we were all three of
them up there and she's likethis is the most peaceful thing
I have ever experienced.
Yeah, it's just incredible.
Yeah, and she never stopstalking.
I love it, and it was literallyjust just amazing to view, so I
(42:57):
thank you for that.
Speaker 5 (42:58):
Listen, it's.
It is the highlight of my yearto get to see that.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
And then for your
balloon people to stay and talk
to our students and help educateour kids and allow Friday to
happen.
I mean you guys come out onFriday and and launch from our
school.
I mean that's cool.
Speaker 5 (43:18):
We're so excited.
Well, you guys have amazingprograms here.
I mean, the aviation program isincredible and James Davis a
wonderful guy.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
Yeah, and the
students are making balloons
right now.
Speaker 5 (43:30):
I love it.
That is so great.
I would like to think thatmaybe that might have had
something to do with the balloon.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
Oh, I'm sure it did.
Speaker 5 (43:36):
I'm sure it did, but
yeah, it's great, I would invite
you.
If you've never been aroundballoons, we have a very unique
event in that.
A lot of events they block itoff with rope or whatever.
In our event, you can walkright up to the balloons, you
can walk up to the baskets, youcan talk to the pilots and
that's not a common thing.
So we do have amazing pilotsthey really and we had to turn
(43:59):
some away this year because wordhas gotten around.
I actually went to a conferencein Cincinnati and they were
talking about our event.
How great is that?
But it is amazing and thepilots are terrific and they
love this place and the onesthat come here on Friday morning
for you guys love to come backhere.
(44:20):
It's awesome.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
Well, we can't wait
to see him friday yes, guess
what we talked before the show.
Speaker 11 (44:24):
We're trying to get
danica up in a balloon yeah, oh,
yeah, yeah our student producerdanica, yeah she's thinking
about, to talk to your mom aboutthat first, but but hey, that'd
be awesome.
Speaker 1 (44:38):
Um, and there's a lot
of things like for families and
kids to do with this thing yes,we're gonna have a kid zone um
they bring.
Speaker 5 (44:45):
Last year we had the
gym mining.
He's coming back.
We have the trackless train.
We have all kinds of things forkids to do um and you have the
tethering and we have tethers,so you can ride a tether, you
know, and go up.
You're still connected to theground, but you can go.
It's a lot of fun.
Maybe we can get John to dothat.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
He's chicken no.
I'm not chicken.
I was going to do it that oneyear, but it was too windy.
Speaker 5 (45:11):
Remember Me and
Robbie Binniker yes, Speaking of
windy, let me just throw thisout there, and we have it on all
our posters, our website andeverything but hot out there.
And we have it on all ourposters, our website and
everything but hot airballooning is very much weather
dependent, absolutely so.
We'll have other things goingon and the balloons aren't out
on the field all day.
Um, they have morning flightsand they have afternoon flights,
(45:33):
um, and then evening glows, but, uh, they won't be out there in
the middle of the day when it'shot.
As a lot of your students inaviation will know, the weather
is in layers, and so you don'twant to be in a basket that's
made of you know rattan up inthe air when the winds at one
level are doing 30 miles an hourNot a fun thing to do.
(45:57):
So the pilots are very carefulwhen they decide when to go up
and when not to.
Speaker 1 (46:01):
Yeah, that was kind
of the way it was when we
couldn't go up that one year.
That's right it wasn't windy atour surface but up a couple
layers.
It was Right, so we couldn't go.
It's like if you just looked atit it's like why aren't we
going yeah?
It's too windy up there.
Speaker 2 (46:14):
Yeah, and they
overanalyze that to listen to
them, so they overanalyze that.
They're very, very, verycautious.
Speaker 5 (46:21):
Very safe.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
But even if you just
see the balloon glow, it is just
incredibly beautiful.
Speaker 5 (46:26):
It's amazing, it
really is, it's amazing.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
And that's all out by
the Civic Center.
Speaker 5 (46:31):
Yes, on Balloon
Launch Field, which is on the
corner of Woodcrest and MartinLuther King Jr's up on the hill.
Come out there.
We're also going to have somemusic.
Speaker 3 (46:43):
I'll just tell you on
the 29th on Friday night Band
Silver will be out there.
Oh, they're good yeah they are,I'm excited.
Speaker 5 (46:47):
On Saturday we'll
have Mojo on the Max playing
from 5 to 7, and the SeniorFollies will be out there
performing from 7.30 to 8.30.
And then on the 31st we'll haveBackwood Gypsies but it's
spelled G-Y-P-S-E-A-S.
Gypsies From three to six, andthen the senior follies will be
(47:09):
back out there again that night.
Very cool so it'll be a lot offun, yeah.
And then of course you know youdon't want to miss later on
Sunday, cooling the Game yes, atCelebrate Anderson, and
there'll be a wonderfulfireworks show.
Of course we'll.
Before the fireworks show,we'll be doing balloon glows,
weather permitting, and then onMonday morning we'll have a
(47:31):
balloon flight.
We call it our memorial flight.
We do it in honor of a lot ofthe balloonists who've lost
their lives or passed on.
We have several that havepassed from cancer and we'll be
reading the names of some of ourcancer patients that we've lost
over the last several yearsthat are special to us.
So very cool, very cool verycool event.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
So get out there with
the family and see it.
There's.
There's a lot to do.
Spend the day or, you know, goin the afternoon before evening
time and that's probably thebest time to go to take in
everything.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
So, because you're
not going to get up early on
Saturday, it's worth seeing theglow, though it is so worth
seeing those, oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (48:10):
It looks really cool
and you got good sponsorship
support this year.
Speaker 5 (48:13):
Yes, we do, but you
know we're always looking for
more.
Speaker 1 (48:16):
Yeah, well, how can
people sponsor if they want to
get involved in that?
Speaker 5 (48:20):
If they want to visit
our website at wwwcaandersonorg
, they can find out how tovolunteer.
You may want to crew and I knowHolly and her family came out
and crewed for us it's a lot offun.
Speaker 2 (48:34):
Several times.
Speaker 5 (48:34):
Absolutely, and you
never know if you're out there
crewing, a lot of times one ofthe pilots will say come on.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
Come on, you can ride
.
Speaker 5 (48:43):
You can.
Of times one of the pilots willsay come on, you can ride.
So it's a lot of fun.
So there's opportunities tovolunteer, to do crewing, to
help out with our event.
There's a place where you canclick sponsorship.
We'll have sponsors mentionedfrom the stage.
You can bring your banner out, things like that.
We have some space.
If you're a nonprofit, we canprobably still fit you in there.
You know, if you want to be avendor, just come out to talk
(49:04):
about your nonprofit.
I know CERT's coming out fromAnderson County's Emergency
Management.
We'll have some othernonprofits out there talking
about their organization.
We'll have plenty of vendors, plenty of stuff to do, but you
can find out how to sponsor, howto volunteer, how to get
involved, how to donate items Ifyou want to donate snacks for
(49:28):
the survivor tent or help out atthe survivor tent.
So just visit our website,wwwcaendersonorg.
All right.
Speaker 1 (49:36):
That sounds great.
So let's shift gears to theCancer Association and tell us,
other than this big event that'shappening this weekend, what's
going on there.
I know you've got a newbuilding, yes we are I drove by
the other day.
Speaker 5 (49:52):
It's going up finally
, yes.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
Yeah, and I was like
wow, now tell us about it.
Speaker 5 (49:57):
Well, it's been
another dream that we've had to
see expanded programs.
We're very short on space, wehave no storage, so we're in a
small house right now and thisfacility is going to give us
opportunity to offer enhancedprograms for people.
(50:17):
We're going to have more.
We talked about it, I think, last year.
We offer right now massageneuromuscular massage for some
of our patients who have scartissue, range of motion issues,
but we're going to be able to dothat on a more everyday basis
rather than just one day a month, so we're excited about that.
(50:39):
We have patients who have beenformer addicts that are afraid
to take pain medication, and sowe're going to be able to offer
acupuncture to help patientswith pain and nausea, which is
really exciting.
Classes on nutrition we'regoing to have a teaching kitchen
, which is going to be amazing.
I cannot wait.
So your culinary students haveto come over.
(51:00):
Absolutely.
Sign me up.
You got it.
That would be amazing.
We have a boutique now, or, asone of our patients says, a
boutique.
We got a boutique now and wehave wigs and hats and scarves
and all kinds of little surceysfor patients.
Just pick me up.
So we're going to have expandedarea there, so it's just going
(51:22):
to be a lot of things that we'regoing to be able to offer and
provide without having to likeright now, when we have a class,
we have to move everything outof the room and then bring
everything in and then move itback so it'll be pretty exciting
.
Speaker 1 (51:37):
It's just amazing to
me I think I said this last year
, probably say it every yearthat Angie's on with what you do
is so big, I mean how manypeople you know all the services
you offer with you know the thelimited resources that you have
.
So I mean, it's just incredible.
Speaker 5 (51:55):
we have dedicated
people.
We have dedicated volunteers.
We couldn't do it without ourvolunteers.
We're basically a five-personstaff and one of them is a
driver, so she's out in the roadall day, every day, picking
patients up and taking them totheir appointments and taking
them back home.
So we basically have fourpeople in the office and to pull
this off is a lot of work, butwe have wonderful volunteers.
(52:19):
We have community partnerships.
The chamber is amazing.
They helped us get the word out, so things like that that help
us do what we do.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
I mean, it's just you
know, and it's all free for the
patients.
Speaker 5 (52:32):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
That's what's amazing
, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (52:35):
It's really
incredible.
Very cool, and I like to see,too that you've started to be
recognized for that too.
Gotten some awards.
Tell us about, tell us aboutsome of the recognition.
Speaker 5 (52:46):
don't be shy, because
it just shows how good it is.
Well, we just have, I mean,we've gotten some things.
Other counties recognized us.
You know, we've gotten, uh,recognition from the city.
We actually went to the city uhtheir last council meeting, and
went to the county councilmeeting and talked about our
balloon event and everything.
That was pretty exciting.
But yeah, we've had a littlebit of recognition here and
(53:08):
there.
But you know, it's about thepatience and I'm just, I'm
humbled to be a part of itbecause it is it's growing.
It's so far beyond anythingthat I could even hope or
imagine.
And I like to tell people Iactually put it in the cement
God's donkey, because you know, god used a donkey and if he can
(53:30):
use a donkey, he can use me.
So, I put it in the concreteAngie Stringer, God's donkey.
So I'm proud of that name.
Speaker 1 (53:39):
Mine would say John
Boone, another name for it.
There's a few other events youhave coming up.
You have a golf tournamentcoming up as well.
Anybody's a golfer.
We got plenty of tournamentshere.
Speaker 5 (53:54):
That's right.
Teed Off Against Cancer,October 7th.
Speaker 1 (53:59):
Yeah, where's that at
?
Speaker 5 (54:00):
That's going to be at
Cop's Glen, okay, and we're
going to be at Copps Glen.
Okay.
And we're going to have a noontee-off, so it'll be an
afternoon event.
So it'll be a lot of fun.
Our Howlin' for Hope is ourevent for Halloween, and then
Concert of Hope and Remembranceis one of our signature events.
It's been around for 20, thiswill be the 24th year, so it
(54:24):
actually started before theCancer Association.
That's how they raised money tostart it.
So we're 22 years old and theconcert's 24 years old this year
.
Speaker 1 (54:33):
And what kind of
music are they doing this year?
Speaker 5 (54:35):
This year's going to
be cool.
It's music.
You would really love it.
The theme is Believe and it'ssongs about believing.
So you know, don't StopBelieving.
Journey They've got we're doingPrince of Egypt is going to be
one of our songs, you know, ifyou Just Believe.
And it's going to be amazing.
Speaker 1 (54:53):
I'm so excited.
Speaker 2 (54:54):
Very cool yeah that's
cool.
Speaker 1 (54:55):
And then you've got
the Color Run.
Speaker 5 (54:57):
Yeah, Color Run will
be at ANMED and we'll be putting
more out about it.
It's November 1st.
Speaker 1 (55:03):
All right, so some
great stuff going on.
Great organization, the websiteagain C.
Ca Anderson, okay it was easierthan I thought, ca Anderson.
Okay, so go to that.
It's org right.
Speaker 5 (55:16):
Yes, org.
Speaker 1 (55:17):
And find out how you
can help, because you know
everything's going to be goingto the right places.
Whatever you do to help isgoing to be well used, all right
.
So it's the end of the show, which means it's recommendation
time.
I don't know what yourecommended last year, angie, I
forget, but we're going to findout what you got this year.
(55:40):
I will tell you that again.
I say this every show, but Iuse these recommendations, me
too.
Speaker 2 (55:45):
I go to these
restaurants Usually within two
weeks of the recommendation.
Yes.
And.
I watch it.
If there's a Netflix show orPeacock or something like that,
I usually watch it within twoweeks.
Speaker 1 (55:57):
Yes, yes, so are you
ready?
Brandi, Can we start with you?
Have you been thinking aboutthat?
Bring it on, we like.
We'll start with entertainment.
Anything that you've beenbinging or you know, a movie
that you really like, or a bookyou're reading anything
entertainment.
What can you recommend to thelisteners?
Speaker 3 (56:15):
Well, I mean movies,
hands down.
It's going to be stillMagnolia's, because I know every
single word to it.
Speaker 6 (56:19):
Oh, that's a classic.
It is Hands down my favoritemovie.
Speaker 3 (56:23):
I could watch it a
million times.
But we don't watch a lot of TVin our house, especially during
the summertime, so we are alwaysvery, very late to the game on
stuff.
So we just, literally Sundaynight, started watching
Outlander.
So, evidently I'm way behindthat's a good show, so it's good
, but we got plenty of time tocatch up Lots Way behind.
Way behind.
That's a good show, so it'sgood, but we've got plenty of
(56:43):
time to catch up, oh yeah, Lotsto binge when it's cold.
Yes, yeah, it's interesting.
Speaker 1 (56:46):
All right, Outlander,
what do you?
Speaker 3 (56:47):
got.
Speaker 1 (56:47):
Angie.
Speaker 5 (56:49):
You know, I was just
telling Brandy earlier, we got
hooked on, we binged on theChosen.
It is so good, I haven'twatched it yet either.
Well, you know, I kept hearingpeople talk about it and I
thought I need to sit down andwatch it.
I need to sit down and watch itand I had some mouth surgery
and so I was home and I sat downand I could not and my husband
(57:10):
came in and we both watched ittogether and it was so good.
I couldn't wait and I'manxiously awaiting season six to
come out so I can watch it.
But it's very.
It makes Bible times real.
I mean it puts you know, youread the Bible and scripture and
it's like up here, you know andall, but it kind of brings it
(57:31):
down home and it's like Jesus isa different person.
He's, he's down home, he's likeI would talk to you and it just
really is a very good show.
I've enjoyed it very much.
And then on the comedy side, because I'm big into comedy,
hands down While you WereSleeping, bill Pullman and
(57:52):
Sandra Bullock.
It is a phenomenal movie.
I've watched it for years.
I watch it whenever I need agood laugh.
Okay, I haven't seen that Ihaven't either Going back a
little bit Good, I love it.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
With the chosen.
What are they up to now?
The Last Supper, or something?
Speaker 5 (58:04):
Yes, last Supper
Season five.
Speaker 1 (58:08):
Okay, all right, good
choices there.
So let's move over to the foodcategory.
It's my favorite category.
Most people it is.
It really is.
So let us know Brandy a placeto go to get some good food and
what we should get there.
Speaker 3 (58:22):
Well, I mean, I don't
think you can get it.
It's kind of exclusive food.
You can have Chef Maury fromhere.
Well, not bad.
Speaker 1 (58:28):
Not a bad choice.
We're a little hooked.
Speaker 3 (58:30):
I mean, we keep
talking about that.
Come to find out mydaughter-in-law was one of his
students.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
So just figure that
out over the weekend.
But if I, if I was going to goto a restaurant hands down, it's
always Hall's, that's myfavorite.
And what do you get?
Speaker 3 (58:42):
Steak and some
chocolate cake.
Speaker 1 (58:45):
What kind of steak?
Speaker 3 (58:46):
I like a ribeye, yeah
, okay, medium rare.
Speaker 2 (58:48):
Yeah, medium rare.
Speaker 3 (58:50):
But I prefer my
husband's.
But if I've got to go out to arestaurant, I want to go to
Hall's.
Speaker 1 (58:54):
Okay, it's funny when
I first wife, everything that
she had been brought up with waswell done and she could.
She's like, oh my gosh, it'sstill mooing when you're you're
eating it and I'm like just tryit, try it and now everything
she gets medium rare, because uhit's juices yeah, uh, what you
(59:14):
got, angie well, you know, myhusband's a great cook so we
don't eat out a lot.
Speaker 5 (59:19):
But I'll tell, tell
you um Delta, vita and Anderson
on 81.
I love, if you want breakfastfood, though I'm telling you um
Buenos dias.
Yes, oh my Lord, yes.
It is so good.
Yes, yes.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
That place is great
we can have a meeting?
Speaker 5 (59:38):
Yes, I ate lunch
there today.
Speaker 1 (59:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (59:42):
And I had their
Buenos Dias special, which is,
you know, eggs any way you wantthem.
It's bacon and their bacon isso good.
And then you can get fruit oryou can get potatoes.
It is really good.
I love that place.
Speaker 1 (59:58):
Yeah, I've only been
there once and it was for
breakfast, but it was fantastic.
Speaker 5 (01:00:01):
I've not been there
once, and it was for breakfast,
but it was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
I've not been and I
got it, I gotta get back, but I
think somebody recommended itlast year.
I think that's why I went, butI don't remember.
I don't know who was, though butuh but yeah, that's a great
place great place to have somebreakfast or lunch.
All right, so, uh, there we go.
There's our recommendations, sonow it's just time to say thank
you, brandy, thanks for comingon the show, thanks for having
me whenever you need to promoteanything or come on talk about
(01:00:25):
something.
Uh, with the chamber alwaysinvolved in everything, you can
come on and do that.
Thank you, and please, uh, ifyou need uh kids come out and
help you with some things.
Uh, let us know and we'll showup at events.
We've done that with withangie's.
We haven't done the labor daything lately because it's on a
holiday weekend so the kidsaren't around, but we did go out
(01:00:47):
there a couple of times andwe'd love to get the kids more
involved in all these communitythings.
Speaker 7 (01:00:52):
So if you have
anything, Color Run would be
good, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
We'll be out there,
but thanks, brandy, for joining
us for the first time.
Hope you had a good time, greattime.
Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
Thank you, thanks,
brandi, for joining us for the
first time.
Hope you had a good time, greattime.
Speaker 1 (01:01:02):
Thank you, it's a
pleasure.
And, angie, as usual, it's beenlike six years, six.
You've been on at least sixtimes.
Yeah, because some years we'vehad you twice.
Yes, so it's great, alwaysgreat to have you on and just
I'm blown away with what you do.
Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
So, and thanks to,
I'm appreciative, appreciative
of what you do, both of you.
Yes, you do a lot for thecommunity and we do appreciate
that, and a lot for us.
You allow us to be involved andincorporate our students and us
into things.
That's huge.
Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
Your students have
been lifesavers.
Well, good, good.
Speaker 7 (01:01:33):
Good good.
Speaker 5 (01:01:34):
And John's class
actually designed our logo.
It's not on here, but our logo, the first one that had the
balloons in it.
Oh, way back when?
Yeah, the background.
Every year we change.
As a matter of fact, it's onthe coin that logo and we just
change the balloons out.
But they designed the first oneVery cool.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Very cool, very cool.
We do it all here, holly, thanks for carving out some time
.
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
Absolutely, you know
it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
And Danica, there she
is there she is everybody there
?
I got to keep talking, so thecamera stays on her.
Talk, talk, talk, talk talk.
There it is, back to you.
That's Danica.
She's going to be joining usall year long to learn some
producing skills, even thoughshe's learning from me.
So we'll see how far she getswith that.
(01:02:22):
But the podcast, remembereverybody.
You can get this on podcast.
In a couple of days It'll be onSpotify, Apple.
