Speaker 1 (00:02):
You're listening to
the Catholic Pursuit of
Excellence, the show that helpsyou accomplish more, stress less
and become the saint Godcreated you to be.
I'm your host, life and healthcoach, jessica Castillo, and
this episode is the first in ourseries for thriving Catholic
entrepreneurs.
So in this episode, I want togive you an overview of what you
(00:26):
can expect from this series, all the things that we'll be
covering, and also why we'reeven doing it in the first place
and what I'm hoping toaccomplish by hosting this
special series for thrivingCatholic entrepreneurs.
The first thing I want to sayis, if you have not already,
there is a free roadmap that Ihave created to kind of go along
(00:51):
with this podcast series.
It's called the ThrivingCatholic Entrepreneurs Roadmap.
It is a step-by-step roadmap tobecoming burnout proof while
accomplishing your God-givenmission at the highest level.
Ultimately, that is the goal.
The goal is that you performthe mission that God has given
(01:14):
you to do at the absolutehighest level that's possible
for you, while at the same time, maintaining your health,
maintaining your relationshipsand, of course, continuing to
grow in holiness.
This is so important, so I havecreated this roadmap.
It is a step-by-step guide.
It includes so much of thecontent and material that I'm
(01:37):
going to be covering in thispodcast.
But because we all absorbinformation better in different
ways, I really recommend thatyou just get this free guide,
this printable roadmap.
You can get it atathrivingcatholiccom forward
slash roadmap or you can checkthe link in the show notes for
(01:58):
this episode.
Okay, why are we doing a seriesspecifically focused on Catholic
entrepreneurs?
Well, a lot of the people thatI end up interviewing on this
podcast are Catholicentrepreneurs.
I'm an entrepreneur, I workwith a lot of entrepreneurs and
(02:18):
I get this kind of coolbehind-the-scenes view of a lot
of Catholic businesses, like thefounders, the creators and the
people who are running thesebusinesses, who are behind these
businesses, and so it's areally cool thing because what
I've seen is so many dedicated,mission-driven people who feel
(02:42):
called by God to use theirspecial gifts, their talents,
their abilities in service toGod and in service to the world.
In a way that's going to havethis ripple effect and it's
going to bless the world.
It's going to change the world.
It's incredible.
I'm honestly humbled and awedby the people that I see doing
(03:03):
this work.
It's so good.
But I've also noticed that a lotof these Catholic entrepreneurs
they have these huge hearts.
They have this huge desire touse their gifts and talents to
serve God and others.
They want to do somethingmeaningful that's going to
impact the world and theirfamily and themselves in a
(03:25):
profound way.
And what I've noticed, though,is that, for many of these
entrepreneurs, they mightactually kind of start losing
sight of that higher visionamidst the day-to-day grind of
what comes with entrepreneurship, which is that it's a lot.
(03:45):
It's a seemingly never-endinglist of tasks and stresses, and
there's a lot that goes intorunning a successful business,
and that's not necessarily a badthing.
That's just reality.
The reality is,entrepreneurship is a challenge,
it is a difficult mission, andthere's a lot that goes into it,
(04:08):
but what I've also noticed isthat a lot of Catholic
entrepreneurs end up accepting areally secular vision for their
businesses that tells them that, in order to be quote unquote
successful, they have to hustleand grind and, at least in the
(04:29):
short term, sacrifice theirhealth, their happiness and, in
some instances, even theirrelationship with God.
And, really, in this episode, what I want to highlight are
some of the lies, really, thatthe hustle, some of the lies
really, that the hustle culturethe quote unquote hustle culture
is feeding to a lot ofentrepreneurs like in general
(04:52):
just entrepreneurs in generalwhich means that Catholic
entrepreneurs are not immune toit.
We are also being exposed tothese lies and sometimes falling
for them.
So one of the lies that hustleculture will feed you is that
everything depends on you.
So if you want your business tobe successful, you just have to
(05:16):
push harder, you have to worklater, you have to sacrifice
more.
Another lie that we mightbelieve is it's okay to
sacrifice our sleep in the shortterm we're in the middle of a
launch or once this project isfinished, once we get this one
thing done.
So, yeah, we're staying up lateand yeah, we're waking up early
(05:38):
.
We're not getting enough sleep.
We know we're not gettingenough sleep, but it's okay
because we're just going to pushreally hard for right now and
when the season passes, thenit'll get easier and we'll get
more sleep, right?
Or maybe you might have believedthat it's okay to eat ramen at
your desk right now.
I mean, it's okay to just eatleftover chicken nuggets off
(06:00):
your kid's plate.
For now, it's fine, becauseyou're going to feed your body
better food once you get pastthis big event in your work.
Whether it's a launch, whetherit's a project.
You're working on some clientwork, even.
It's fine, You're going to justpush through.
You know that you're not goingto eat like this all the time,
(06:21):
right, it's just for right now.
Or maybe maybe this one.
Your family won't mind ifyou're constantly checking your
phone when you're with them,right?
I mean, you're still with yourkids.
You're with them just becauseyou're doing something on your
phone.
They don't mind, right?
Like they don't really noticethat you're not completely
listening to them when they'retrying to talk to you.
(06:43):
It's fine, this is just for now.
Anyway, this is just whatentrepreneurship is.
You have to answer youraudience, right.
You have to be engaged withyour followers, or how about
this one?
God understands why you'recalculating sales conversions
during mass.
He knows how important yourbusiness is to you, so it's okay
(07:08):
that you're thinking about howmany people registered for your
webinar and what percentage ofthose people might convert to
actual sales, and how much moneywould that actually be in your
business?
Because, I mean, he knowsyou've got bills to pay, right?
Okay, friends, I could go onand on and on, because there are
(07:30):
a million little concessionslike this, a million little
excuses that you might make foryourself that you might tell
yourself, for why?
Reaching quote unquote successmeans sacrificing everything
(07:51):
that's most important to you.
In these examples, you aresacrificing your health, you are
sacrificing your family lifeand your relationships, and you
have taken your eyes off ofJesus and you're instead making
(08:11):
an idol of this success in yourbusiness.
And what I want to say to youin this episode and in this
(08:36):
series is that it does not haveto be this way.
It is 100% possible for you tothrive in your business and in
your life without sacrificingyour health, your happiness,
your relationships and, mostimportantly, without sacrificing
(09:00):
your relationship with God.
And that is what this podcastseries is about.
So what we're going to do overthe next several episodes is I'm
going to outline for you firstwhat I call the Thriving
Catholic Entrepreneurs Manifesto.
So in episode two of thisseries, I'm going to dig into
(09:20):
exactly what that manifesto isand why it's so powerful, why
it's so important for you tokind of keep firmly fixed in
your mind, in your vision, whata thriving Catholic entrepreneur
can be, what that could be likefor you, and then what we're
going to do in the next episode.
(09:42):
In episode three of this series.
We're going to go, step by step, through that roadmap.
Talk about what those stepsactually are, like what you can
do, what you can work on.
That's going to help you reachthis point of really feeling
like you are, thriving that youare not sacrificing these things
(10:02):
that are so important.
And just a quick spoiler alertbefore we get into all of those
episodes I do want to tell youthat the number one lie that we
are going to refute in thisseries is that everything
depends on you, becauseeverything does not depend on
(10:24):
you, everything does not dependon you, everything depends on
God, and, as a mission-drivenCatholic entrepreneur, that is
the number one thing that wehave to recognize.
We 100% must recognize that notonly with God are all things
(10:47):
possible, but God, through hismighty power at work within us,
is able to accomplish infinitelymore than we might ask or think
.
So something somewhatmiraculous happens when we take
our focus off of ourselves, offof thinking that our businesses
(11:09):
that God has called us to like.
If he has called us to thisbusiness, he is going to equip
us with everything we need tomake it work to run this race
and run it really really well, this race and run it really
(11:30):
really well.
So keep that truth in yourheart and before your eyes at
all times.
It does not depend on you, which means that you don't have
to push harder, work later, sacrifice more.
What you actually have to do isrun even more into the arms of
your loving father.
You have to keep your eyes evenmore firmly fixed on Jesus and
(11:53):
you need to step out of thatboat and start walking on the
water towards him, because he'sgoing to ask you to do some
things that feel impossible, butyou can do it.
You can do it.
Okay, that is it for this firstepisode in this series.
In the second episode, like Isaid, we're going to go through
what that thriving CatholicEntrepreneur Manifesto is, and
(12:16):
let me just tell you it ispowerful and it is going to
really have a big impact.
So don't miss episode two inthis series.
In future episodes, we are alsogoing to be going through the
step-by-step, so you knowexactly what's coming and what
you can do to achieve some ofthis peak performance.
(12:38):
I'm all about peak performance.
This is peak performance in aChrist-centered way, and that's
what we're going to be focusingon in this series.
We're going to be talking aboutin a future episode, the
formula for how you actuallyapply all the things that we're
going to be learning in thisseries.
And then I have a few specialinterviews lined up as well that
are specific to Catholicentrepreneurs and avoiding
(13:01):
burnout.
So it's a really cool series.
I'm grateful to have you herelistening, so if you are not
already, please go ahead andsubscribe to the podcast so
you'll know when the nextepisode in the series comes out.
And until then, make sure yougo to a thriving catholiccom
forward slash roadmap and getyour copy of the roadmap
(13:21):
yourself so that you can followalong, so that you have
everything that you need and Iwill see you in the next episode
.
All right, that is it for methis week.
Until next time, remember thatit is Jesus who inspires you to
do something great with yourlife, so don't let yourself be
(13:42):
ground down by mediocrity.
Bye for now.
