We are revisiting a popular episode from the past. I have a few new thoughts to share as well and hope that it will inspire you to look for healthier ways to care for yourself mind-body-and soul.

Ever found yourself reaching for a glass of wine in the name of self-care, only to feel less than rejuvenated?

In this episode you will discover five practical tips that will revamp your self-care regimen. Whether it's carving out time for true rest amidst a bustling schedule or rekindling a passion for forgotten hobbies like my own adventure in lacto-fermenting vegetables, there's an abundance of joy waiting to be tapped.

This episode isn't just about avoiding alcohol; it's an invitation to create sanctuaries in your daily life, spaces of peace and deep breaths that truly replenish your spirit.

So, pour yourself a cup of herbal tea, find a cozy nook, and let's journey together into the heart of self-care that leaves your cup overflowing.

I'm here for you. I'm praying for you. You are NOT alone!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Catholic Sobriety podcast, the
go-to resource for women seekingto have a deeper understanding
of the role alcohol plays intheir lives, women who are
looking to drink less or not atall for any reason.
I am your host, christy Walker.
I'm a wife, mom and ajoy-filled Catholic, and I am

(00:22):
the Catholic Sobriety coach, andI am so glad you're here.
Hello everyone, thank you somuch for being here.
I'm really excited to do thisepisode.
It's one that I've beenplanning for quite a while, and
I just kind of got it all puttogether last night and I am

(00:45):
ready to roll with it.
So today's episode is self-carewithout booze.
So, contrary to popularmarketing and beliefs and what
people say on Instagram andeverywhere else, drinking

(01:05):
alcohol is not self-care.
Let me say that again Drinkingalcohol is not self-care.
It's not a way to cope withyour motherhood.
It's actually something thatI've talked about a ton on my
show, and so you can go back andlisten to episodes, but it

(01:26):
actually doesn't help with allthe things that a lot of times,
women consume alcohol to try toalleviate.
So it actually increases youranxiety and depression.
It leaves you feeling kind ofgrumpy, not feeling well the
next day.
Sleep is disrupted, whichaccounts for the not feeling

(01:50):
well and being grumpy, and, yeah, it's just no good.
And I want to help you byproviding some tips on how you
can do self-care without thebooze.
Okay, so I've been doing thisfor a long time.
I am a woman in recovery and Ihave had to figure out ways to

(02:15):
self-care, which I meansometimes as moms, as women, as
Catholic women the wordself-care can feel a little
selfish, but I think that theoptions that I'm going to be
providing for you today I havefive are going to be very doable
and they are going to just fillyour cup so that you can be the

(02:38):
wife, the mom, the daughter ofGod that you want to be.
So I have five of those for youand I would love to dive in.
So let's get started.
So the first self-care tip thatI have for you that does not
involve booze is to schedule inreal rest.

(03:00):
This is conscious rest.
It's about making deliberatechoices to prioritize your
well-being.
So you may be saying look, christy, I am a busy mom.
I have, like, so many thingsgoing on.
There is no way that I am goingto have time to take a moment

(03:23):
in my daily routine to have anykind of real rest.
But this is what I would offeryou Think about the times, or
take note of the times, whenmaybe you're doing things like
scrolling or wasting time doingthings that aren't really

(03:43):
serving you, or when you'redrinking alcohol.
Then fill that time with rest.

(15:05):
