Jason (00:34):
This episode is brought
to you by Trophyai.
We discuss all things in thesim racing world.
I'm your host, jason Rivera, and I'm joined here by Mr Eric
Kelly and Jeff Smart.
How's it going, guys?
Erick (00:44):
Going good, man, going
good.
Finally cooling off here alittle bit in Alabama so, man, I
can turn the AC down, save somemoney.
Jason (00:54):
There you go, so that's
positive.
Jeff (00:57):
Sometimes hard to keep
track of seasons here, but we're
not going to complain one wayor the other, because nobody's
going to feel bad for us, butlife's good, life's good.
Jason (01:04):
That's a hell of an
update eric so I mean I feel for
you, bro, because over thereit's probably humidity, over
there it's pretty nasty triple, triple digit, everything man ah,
I can't, I mean, I'm not evengonna to say 50% all year, 365.
Erick (01:26):
You'll never sweat here,
unless you really want to
Postcard.
Jason (01:32):
All right, gents, we got
a hell of an episode today.
We're going to roll right intoannouncements real quick.
I don't have any.
I don't have any updates.
I'm excited.
Thank you so much, george, forcoming back on the show.
Cine Gaming Expo is,theoretically speaking, in four
days by the time this airs.
(01:54):
Isn't that crazy?
That was quick math.
Jeff (01:57):
Buddy, I'm proud of you, I
think.
Jason (02:00):
Maybe I don't know if I'm
right.
Yeah, you're right, Damn dude.
Jeff (02:07):
It's coming up on us.
Huh, it's creeping up prettyquick.
It's here, man.
George is in full-fledged panicmode.
Jason (02:14):
That's it bro.
Jeff (02:16):
Overdrive Monster Red Bull
.
Yeah, rip it, you name it.
Jason (02:22):
You know, happy Labor Day
for those in the Us.
Uh, hope you enjoy that laborday, which is the.
You know it's that time of year.
So let's get right into today'ssimistry update.
And today jeff has it.
So, jeff, what we got today forfor this industry update yeah.
Jeff (02:42):
So some news hit the the
interwebs about Assetto Corso
Evo.
We have an update is 0.3.
And so I'm going to walkthrough some of the key
additions that everybody shouldbe seeing coming through as they
update.
So big one here out the gate ismultiplayer.
It's the first rollout here, sowe're looking at 16-player
online racing to start, with theability the capacity to
(03:04):
increase at a later date to bedetermined but really this is
probably pretty major news, uhfor the evo fans out there the
ability to get on there and racewith another human.
So, uh, big step forward here.
We've got custom lobbies andspecial events.
Uh, will be a little bitavailable right outside that,
right out the gate.
Um, they got server rentalstarted at a one pound, so
(03:25):
what's that Like?
$0.7?
Or am I going the wrong way?
Us dollars, anyways, adollar-ish per slot per month.
Jason (03:35):
We got to double check if
that's a pound or euro, because
if it's a pound, oh I'm sorryEither way.
Erick (03:39):
Oh yeah, Pound is
probably.
Pound is going to hurt.
Jason (03:42):
Not for DNR, not for
Danny Newman.
He'll be fine with a pound, butfor us.
Jeff (03:48):
I think I did my math the
wrong way.
Jason (03:49):
It's all good you don't
have to rent a server, right?
Those are for leagues orprivate testing, whatever just a
data point what's that?
Erick (04:03):
they'll have official
ones stood up for free.
Jeff (04:05):
So yeah, I'm curious.
I mean not to kind of deep diveon this, but I'm curious to see
what the community does forleagues in evo.
You know, is that going to be?
You know is, is that going totake off, you know, and pull
away from iRacing, or just I'mjust curious to see what that
will do to the, the leagueracing community.
Um, so we got daily racing portportals, uh, structured online
(04:28):
racing, uh, built with sim grid.
Uh, that'll be coming out inearly access for competitive
ranking system will be based onthe elo rather than your license
that you hold.
Um, we got some update tophysics and handling overhaul of
the suspension model and we'llalso have 1,000 hertz dampening
for more natural weight transfer.
(04:49):
So hopefully that'll help outto some of the people that were
saying, hey, there's a littlebit of wonkiness in the driving
for Evo.
I've heard different cars havedifferent kind of feels that are
a little bit unnatural maybe.
So you got to improve tiremodel with more progressive, uh,
thermal dynamics.
Isn't that awesome that, likethe game is like simulators now
(05:12):
are simulating thermodynamics.
I don't even really know whatthermodynamics is, but it's cool
, but when they you know, it'sweird.
Jason (05:21):
I don't want to interrupt
here, but go ahead.
I kind of have to because it'skind of like the game's not
finished, the cars feel great, but then to me they feel great
and they're already overhaulingsomething.
I mean I just I want to test it.
I want to see what.
What did they find that neededa complete overhaul, right when
(05:44):
the game's not even out yet thesim?
Erick (05:46):
excuse me I think it was
the.
It was the temperature.
The tires weren't responding totemperatures in an predictable
way.
So yeah, so that's yeah toeric's point.
Jeff (05:57):
The next uh data point
here is uh force feedback too,
soon.
No, that's fine force feedbackis uh sharpened to fix the.
I guess the the lack of feelcomplaint that older wheels um
perform better uh than old, that, oh, excuse me, that older
wheels feel better than newerwheels.
So you get some in-game forcefeedback widgets that allow for
(06:18):
finer tuning and settings uhdirectly from the hud.
You get some optimization andperformance major work on the
GPU optimization that shouldhelp with frame rates and some
stability problems for people.
You get some menu updates,post-processing effects.
So here we go.
We'll talk about some trackupdates.
My favorite everybody knows thiswe got a spa drop here and it
(06:42):
should be the 2022 spec of thetrack, so that's pretty badass.
We got a Red Bull ring, themodern version, and this is the
biggest thing that I was pumpedabout here team, and I think
everybody knew my gripe with Evowas there was no open wheel
support.
So, yeah, so I'm going to startwith the most important one to
hit the market is the FerrariF2004, the first F1 car open
(07:06):
wheel to.
For the uh, the sim, uh, yougot the audi rs8, the bmw m3,
bmw m4, the karat hot academyI'm not familiar with that car.
You'll have to, uh, forgive me,the delara, delara, stardale,
uh, mercedes uh 190 Evo,lamborghini Super Trofeo and the
Porsche Cayman GT RS Club Sport.
(07:29):
So those are the big ones.
I think the big one thateverybody probably will be
focused on is the multiplayer.
So good news all around fortoday's sim industry Gives us
another option to race otherhuman beings.
So probably the industry'snewest simulator hit the market.
Jason (07:46):
That's a pretty good
update for it being, you know,
free.
You know there's other gamesthat were that I won't mention,
that were in pre-release, thatwere charging.
So this is kind of nice, rightTo get a set of cars and tracks
while we test the game for you,the Sim.
(08:08):
Well, right now it's a gamebecause it's not complete.
Jeff (08:11):
I'll test your stuff.
Jason (08:14):
Yeah, that's what we're
doing.
We're squashing bugs for theteam, and it's important for
them to release multiplayerbecause we need to see how it
behaves with human players.
So I'm pretty sure it's goingto be a rough ride.
Jeff (08:31):
Yeah, I'm sure the first
couple days and weeks of
multiplayer will be a learningexperience for a lot of people,
a lot of the developers andstuff.
Erick (08:39):
Yeah, they're going to
learn a lot.
Jason (08:41):
And it's cool man.
Yeah, they're going to learn alot and it's cool man.
You guys realize that and I'llgo into my next topic here, or
the first topic of the day forthe main discussion.
You know a lot of these Simsare pushing hard.
You know, for the end of thisyear it seems like you know you
(09:05):
got AC Evil pushing out outmassive trying to get the game
done.
You have lmu still trying torelease um, their packs and and
trying to make up for the yearand they just released 1.0.
Now you have um, I think amams2 just had another update
that made it significantlybetter.
Now we have, you know, it's alot of there's a lot of back and
forth here, yeah, which isgreat because that gives you the
(09:29):
element of choice that iscompetition.
Jeff (09:33):
Man right, everybody's
trying to keep their road.
Jason (09:35):
We, the SimRacer benefit
from all of it.
Exactly, and, chicane, you knowwe're all fans of our own Sim
and we have our own preferences.
But on the show here we willcover every single sim.
It doesn't matter Even if it'sF1, if F127 came out and they
(09:55):
overhauled something, then wewant to know about it, we want
to read about it, we want tocheck it out and give it a shot,
right, even though the odds areforever in, not in your favor
so controversy for the, for thefun, while you as you drive to
work?
(10:15):
I'm just assuming so yeah,anyway.
Erick (10:17):
So, jason, uh, before you
go on, man, I wanted to give
you an opportunity to speak toum lmu, because I know when they
um had their update come out,we tried it out and it didn't go
very well, but you made animportant discovery with lmu,
just to kind of you know, sothat we actually we're not just
I racing and you know gt7, okay, fanboys, we're trying stuff out
(10:42):
.
Eric has money to actually testLMU even further behind the
scenes.
Jason (10:48):
Eric has pulled the plug
underneath my legs.
That is not in the show notes, but here we go.
Jeff (10:56):
Let her rip Tater Chip.
Jason (10:58):
So, you know, I started
thinking and I was like okay,
there's so many, there's so manypositives and there's not many
negatives that I could find outthere.
So I'm like is there somethingwrong with my computer, Is it
something wrong with my hardwarethat's making the cars feel
different, Even though I knowdamn well, right, that
(11:21):
everything is set up correctly.
But I'm not perfect.
You know, and that's what I wasthinking as I was in bed and I
get up from bed, and I was likeyou know what I'm going to go
and reinstall, do a clean slate, cleared all the cash, all the
registry, all the little tipsand tricks I have with PCs, and
started fresh.
And I looked at content becauseI'm a huge Porsche fan, as you
(11:47):
guys didn't realize, and evenmore so now because I race it
every week it completely grew onme in like a hundred thousand.
It used to be that I loved them, right, but then it wasn't like
my forte, it used to be theMcLaren, but that has changed
significantly.
So anyway, going back to thestory, I go on the steam and I'm
(12:10):
like well, how much would itcost to race the Porsche?
So then I looked at the packsand then I looked at the tracks
and I was like man, if I wantthis track, I got to buy this
pack, If I want that track, Igot to buy this.
So you know what?
I just added them all to thecart and it came out to $55.
Then I started comparing theirsubscription model versus you
(12:32):
paying for the DLC.
Because if you go with thesubscription model the highest
tier, $84 a year before tax if ayear time from now you decide
that you're not going to playthis game no more, you lose
access to all the content.
So I didn't like the idea ofthat.
So then I just purchased thecontent, loaded up the sim and I
(12:54):
took the Porsche out.
Same setting, same everythingand the force felt.
The Porsche felt amazing.
It felt great.
It drove, it behaved, it didthings that I was doing in
iRacing, comparing, and I'mexpecting the car to rotate the
way it was rotating A slightdifference, but it was behaving.
(13:15):
So then I started thinking Iwas like this is paid DLC.
So then I load up, I go back andI load up a McLaren 720S and
the car feels not as good as thePorsche.
It feels, and I know whateverybody's going to say oh,
it's a different car.
It's a different weighttransfer, it's different physics
(13:38):
, but I mean it's usually if Ijumped into McLaren and iRacing
just comparing it's at leastdrivable to a point until you
get used to.
All right, you don't like beingthrown this way or you don't
like being break down this way.
So first thing I did was calledEric Kelly, the tech gentleman.
(14:02):
Tech Jen gave me and I said WTF.
And I asked him we need to getLMU installed on your PC and
we're working on that.
So I started racing.
I still had a few crashes, Ihad to map a button to restart
my FFB, but overall my thoughtshave changed across uh, you know
(14:27):
, towards lmu, but I still don'tagree with the subscription
model because I went into a raceand, um, something happened in
this race and I went to go filea protest because the guy
literally ran into the behind mycar on purpose.
Jeff (14:47):
He cut the track by like a
quarter mile just to take you
out.
I know let's call a spade aspade here.
Jason (14:53):
The guy locks up.
Jeff (14:54):
And I say this because it
paints a whole story of where
you're going down here that it'sabsolutely worthwhile a protest
, so continue.
I'm sorry to cut off, I justwant to make sure people
understand.
Jason (15:06):
No, I want feedback, I
want thoughts, I want people to
comment.
And I understand it's a rookierace so I can't really hold it
to its throat too much because Iam a rookie.
But here's how I feel aboutthis.
Let me just explain thescenario.
The guy locks up turn one onBahrain, Bahrain Locks up.
(15:29):
I give him a love kiss, literally a small tap on the
bumper, because he locked up infront of me and he was slower
than me and he knew he wasslower.
That's why he locked up.
So then I get him on the firstturn and then I see the car go
off track and try and come thisway and hit me.
He misses me.
He takes out the Porsche thatwas behind me and then I'm not
(15:53):
even paying attention to what'sgoing on because I'm focused on
the next turn, which is a longstraight after you do the little
S and then you go.
It's a long, long, yeah.
So I'm downshifting from fifthto like second gear, Rob Markman
Jr, and the car flies off thetrack.
Bro, he just straight up fullthrottle into the bumper T-bone.
(16:17):
The car was totaled.
So then I went to protest.
There's no protest button.
So then I started digging and Icouldn't find.
Where do I?
So you go to Google.
Right, Like any other smartgenius engineer out there.
You go to Google and you askLMU how to you know what I mean.
Erick (16:38):
Yeah.
Jason (16:39):
And it's tied to a
subscription, so I have to pay
to file a protest, and I don'tagree with I mean, I understand
iRacing is a paid subscription, but come on, if you're going to,
at least give me the ability tofile a protest, you know what I
(17:00):
mean.
Or at least make a lobby whereit's only paid people and it's
only free people that they can'tfile a protest, because now
this guy gets away with it and Ican't do anything about it.
And as if they even do anything, because I highly doubt they
have them cross level stewardingover there.
I don't think so.
Jeff (17:21):
Yeah, they better think
about that, take a step back,
like if they're charging youmoney for a protest.
They better have some peoplelooking at some stuff.
Jason (17:32):
I would, I would, I would
hope so.
Right, because everybody needsyou know, people need to get
paid and everything, and Iunderstand that, yeah, but I
think the protest was a littletoo far.
I think it was a little too far.
I think you should be able to.
I think every racer should beable to protest.
Yeah, you know, because, yeah,go ahead.
Erick (17:53):
I was going to say I
think that it should be more of
a.
There's be some perks to beinga subscriber, right?
So if you're subscribed, thenyou, if you want to go protest,
then maybe you're in like afaster queue, you get, you know,
better response time orsomething like that, versus just
not having the ability to,because if you're like like in
(18:14):
your case, you're trying out thegame, you're trying to decide
if this is something you want tosink a lot of time into and one
of the better values are thelonger subscription.
So to me, I think it being allor nothing is kind of that needs
to be looked at.
Jason (18:32):
That's my Right, and it's
the middle tier.
I didn't say you have to havethe highest tier, but think
about how I felt at that pointin time.
I spent $40 on the game, then Ispent $55 on the game.
That was my choice, and now Ihave to spend an extra $48 to
file a complaint or to put acustom livery on.
(18:53):
Come on, what are we doing?
Erick (18:55):
here.
Yeah, that's so weak.
Jason (18:57):
Yeah.
Erick (18:58):
I'm sorry, that's weak.
Jason (19:01):
So in the game's defense,
in the Sims' defense, it is a
good sim, it is a good sim.
Something was really wrong.
Either something was reallywrong or the free cars are just
not getting the physics updatesas the newer cars are, which
could definitely be a thing.
But thank you, eric, I was inthe middle of testing that but,
(19:29):
it's good to get it off my chesthere.
I want to be fair to ourviewers and you know there's a
lot of reviews I know you'regetting some LMU hate yeah
there's a lot of reviews outthere.
Erick (19:41):
I feel like you deserve
some credit for the time and
effort you were spending givinganother shot.
Jason (19:48):
No, I do it all the time.
F1 games, I go back and I trythem.
I don't just talk here, youknow what I mean.
I have to put my hands on itand I compare it across the
entire.
You know the major Sims that wehave and cars you know that are
driven by professionals.
Then that's a kind of goodreference that I can trust and
(20:11):
then I compare that to differentSims you know, and then I
compare that to different Simsyou know.
But anyways, let's get intotoday's topic.
That was a good one.
Lmu has a lot of potential.
I would say that it has a lotof potential and I will continue
to try it.
(20:31):
I just want telemetry right nowis what I really want?
Telemetry is really brokenright now on SimHub.
We need telemetry ASAP so thatI can get the DNR working.
I can get all the bells andwhistles all working synced up
together.
(20:52):
Anyways, guys, it's that timeof the year, right season four.
Season four, and what I mean byseason four is let me share my
screen we have a new update andwe for iRacing and I just we
just spoke about, you know, simracing and title updates and
(21:14):
everything else, and this is avery good.
It's kind of cool because theyhave not just an update, but
they have NASCAR 25.
It just got the green light forconsole release and I'll hit
and read this to you guys it'sbeen a busy summer at iRacing,
(21:38):
with numerous milestonesachieved across various teams.
The NASCAR 25 team is wellpositioned for the October 14th
release of NASCAR 25.
And, yes, it just passedconsole certification on the
first attempt.
Ok, great, yeah, on the firstattempt.
(22:01):
Okay, great, yeah.
The orontes and our exo crossteam now has robust racing game
engine foundation and are wellunderway on the next racing
title.
So this is kind of cool, right, because you get.
You don't.
You're not getting I racing,but you're getting a sim
developed by I racing on consoleso you can kind of uh of see
what you're missing.
I guess for NASCAR folks outthere, nascar community, which
is massive, huge.
(22:21):
The iRacing Arcade again, Ilooked at that.
It's like a little arcade thingthat they got going on.
It's like a fun and refreshingblend of arcade racing and you
get to customize things.
It's kind of cool, it's cute.
We need to jump into meat andpotatoes here.
I'm gonna go over to the carpack that's coming out.
(22:44):
Um well, it's not a car pack, but it's cars that are releasing
on everybody's favorite partbuddy yeah, man.
So we do have a formula car here, jeff, and let me I just saw
that.
Yeah, man, so we have an AstonMartin Vantage Evo GT3,
collaboration with Aston Martin, which is the one in the middle
(23:05):
which looks absolutely.
It looks mean, it looks mean.
Erick (23:09):
So shout out to E-Dub
Racing.
It looks like it sounds good.
Jeff (23:13):
Yeah, with that office, my
boy.
Jason (23:16):
E-Dub.
He's a big Aston Martin.
He's going to love seeing this.
I'm trying to get him oniRacing, so shout out to you the
Lara IL-15 is an Indy.
Next, and get this.
It's got push to pass and it'sa Class C, so you can race that
in Class C.
Okay, oh, got a Ford MustangGT4.
(23:39):
Uh, so it's the first northamerican gt4 ever on iRacing.
So here it is, wow okay yep, bmwm4 evo gt3 upgrade free to
owners.
So I'll scroll down and get tothat.
So so here I just went overthis.
We'll go over to cardevelopment.
Jeff (23:59):
Looks like they had some
new features for VR users.
That's pretty.
You know I race about maybe athird of the time in VR, so I'm
pumped about that.
Jason (24:07):
Yeah, man, it's way down
below.
Jeff (24:10):
Oh, is it Okay?
I'm sorry by the look of thescroll wheel, bro, we got to get
there, let's go, buddy.
Erick (24:16):
It.
Okay, I'm sorry by the look ofthe scroll wheel, bro, we got to
get in, let's go buddy.
It's one of those episodes Idon't know I can't.
Jason (24:21):
So it says we're talking
about the new Aston Martin
Vantage Evo.
It says together with AstonMartin, the Vantage Evo was
developed through closecollaboration and support from
Aston Martin and professionalracers who pilot this car in
real life and also havesignificant experience in sim
racing.
The car looks stunning, it is athrill to drive and part of the
(24:43):
wider collaboration with AstonMartin that will yield
additional new cars in thefuture.
So this is not the end for theAston says along along with the
addition of the Vantage.
It says along with the additionof the Vantage, the larger GT3
class has undergone tweaks togear ratio options on six of the
10 cars.
This was part of the BOP, whichis Balance of Performance
(25:07):
process, bringing us one stepcloser to current real-world
practice.
And here you go, jeff See nowpay attention here.
Last season says I tease.
I didn't tease anything, butthey tease the new entry in open
wheel offering which they arepleased to announce, the Dallara
(25:28):
IL15 featured in the Indy Nextseries and basically what that
means is that this car will beable to race in the formula and
the oval tracks, you know, roadtracks.
It's a 2.0 liter turbo chargedcharge, excuse me, 450
horsepower.
Uh powered race car is a rocketoffering an excellent option
(25:52):
for racers seeking a higherperformance, yet approachable
open wheel series.
The il15 will be positioned asa c-class yep road and oval, as
mentioned um.
So the chassis is a full carbonfiber monocoque with an
integrated halo device, and itssuspension delivers precise uh
(26:12):
precise control andresponsiveness.
Aerodynamically, the carprovides a balance of downforce
and drag, ensuring stability onovals and agility through
technical road courses.
So it's a six-speed sequentialgearbox operated via paddle
shifters on the steering wheel, which replicates the shift
(26:32):
dynamics of higher-tier vehicles.
The push-to-pass pass systemlet's go push the bat.
This has got to be the secondcar, I think I think, the other
car was the sf23 and apparentlythis thing is going to smoke the
sf23 if you thought that was ohyeah, oh yeah, wow says um push
(26:55):
the-pass system.
Mirroring closely the IndyCarimplementation delivers an extra
50 horsepower at the driver'srequest.
Activation is handled viasteering wheel button and
on-screen gauge tracks theremaining boost time.
This familiar boost managementinterfaces ensures a seamless
transition for drivers advancingfrom indian and next to the top
(27:18):
level indie series.
Jeff (27:19):
So hey jace, I got a
question for you, so it says
right there available in roadand oval fixed series.
Yes, so not, so you can race onboth it can.
Jason (27:30):
It could do both.
It could do road and it coulddo oval.
So you can, you can do indy andyou could do road racing with
it.
That's kind of cool, the samecar, yeah.
So I, I mean you buy one car, look how many series you can
race in.
That's a lot of, a lot ofshould be.
I hope it.
I hoped, uh, people actuallytry it out and it gets popular,
because formula needs attentionon iRacing.
(27:53):
So you know.
So the new GT4 here says GT4 hasbeen a key focus for us in the
past couple of years and we havebeen working behind the scenes
to expand the series withmultiple new cars.
And the renewed effort beginswith the introduction of the
Ford Mustang GT4.
The Mustang is an exciting newentry to the class and the first
(28:14):
North American brand in our GT4series.
Thank God, the edition will beaccompanied by a comprehensive
overhaul of the GT4 class.
So that means that not only arethey releasing a Mustang for
the first time in the GT4 class,an American car, every single
(28:35):
car, every single GT4 is gettingan update, like the tire model
in physics.
So it says this update bringsour latest physics modeling
improvements to the entire GT4class, along with improvements,
we have focused on improving thecorrelation of the sim relative
(28:56):
to the current IMSA MichelinPilot Challenge Series rule set.
So let me just skim throughthis, because top speeds will be
higher and minimum cornerspeeds will be lower, so you'll
be slower on the corners butyou'll be fast on the straights.
This does mean the overall griplevel has been reduced and
(29:19):
I-Racers should keep this inmind.
This is a worthwhile trade-offfor improved real-world
correlation and despite thereduced grip level, lap times
are expected to improve bysomewhere between 0.5 to
basically half a second to awhole second per lap, which is
massive If you think of this.
(29:41):
If you think Nürburgring, thatis a few seconds, bro of lap
time.
Erick (29:48):
Oh yeah.
Jeff (29:50):
It's wild that it's going
to be faster but slower in the
corners but still produce afaster lap.
Jason (30:03):
Yeah, it'll be faster in
the straights.
Um says that the the the tirewarmer, temperature has been
decreased, so, as with othercars that feature on our latest
tire model.
So the warm-up period for gt3,for example, you really have to
warm them tires up.
They're not playing games, I'mtelling you.
You mess around with some coldtires, you're going to know fast
.
But they're saying that it isshorter than those of the GTP
(30:25):
and the GT3.
So it'll be shorter.
So I'm assuming I don't knowwhat shorter means, maybe half a
lap or, depending on the track.
Too right, what track you're on, how hot is the track?
But here's a good breakdownhere.
(30:45):
All cars in the class havereceived a chassis repass and
improvements updated includeTC-ABS and ESC systems when
appropriate, damper for improvedbody control, particularly for
curb strikes, thank god, becausethey were really unstable on
the curbs and rough tracks.
So engine torque curves, brakesystems, mass inertia and
distribution properties,aerodynamic factors uh,
(31:09):
particularly dynamic side force, wing trim ranges and ride
height ranges.
Fuel fuel tank size, fill timesand fuel burn rates, you know,
standardized to smaller IMSA.
So okay, so the tank isshrinking.
Interesting BOP right Balanceof performance to improve
(31:30):
relatively, you know, relativecompetitive across the track.
That means what they do is thatit doesn't really matter the
car.
They try to do a balance ofperformance.
So if the Ferrari is reallyfast this is in real life too
they may add some weight to itor reduce the power to kind of
(31:51):
keep it fair across the board.
And here we go.
We got a new M4 Evo GT3, whichis not a new car.
Well, it is a new car, but it'sa legacy car.
You already know the tip withlegacy cars.
Jeff (32:06):
Go buy them Two for one.
Jason (32:09):
If they decide to take
that away, don't come at me.
So yeah, we've added I'm hopingto read it here, hopefully it's
in here but uh, they've addedan upgraded um upgrade to the bm
bmw m4 gt3.
This is required.
This required substantialgraphics and physical, uh,
(32:29):
physics work, excuse me.
And the update will be appliedon top, on top of the existing
bmw m4 gt3.
Therefore, the update will befree on top of the existing BMW
M4 GT3.
Therefore, the update will befree.
So it's just an update.
So it's not really a new model,it's just they're taking the
car and they're just making itbetter.
There's a hybrid update too.
(32:50):
We have completed a fundamentaloverhaul, of course.
How many times we've read that?
Integrating the hybrid systeminto our latest power unit code
structure?
Okay, I stand corrected.
This has been done withflexibility in mind to
accommodate the large variety ofracing hybrid systems we have
(33:12):
in the service.
The GTP and hypercar class willseamlessly blend ice and
electric ice, meaning internalcombustion.
Jeff (33:22):
There you go.
Jason (33:22):
All right, there we go.
We got somebody that I justfroze up when I said ice
Electric drive to match themaximum allowable power output
at all times.
In addition, the Ferrari 499Phypercar will have an electric
drive only when traveling at aspeed greater than a specified
minimum, and it will be able todrive electrically at multiple
(33:47):
output levels.
That's kind of cool, man.
So you can straight up cut the.
You don't even need the engine, but that's kind of cool.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Talk about the W12 and that'skind of cool.
Jeff (33:56):
Whoa, whoa, whoa Talk
about the W12 and 13.
You see this.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Go go, go, gogo.
Jason (34:01):
The Mercedes W12 and the
W13 cars will see a modest
refresh with the addition of afast region mode.
We are planning for the LMP1car.
I was about to say that, Jeff.
We are planning for the LMP1car.
I was about it, Jeff.
We are planning to have LMP1cars that have a larger refresh
rate, that improving drivabilityand the IndyCar hybrid system
(34:22):
will be manual deploy only andwon't be ready for September.
So IndyCar won't be ready.
But it's kind of cool when theymentioned hybrid system.
It's all across the car, acrossthe classes, which is kind of
cool.
Jeff (34:36):
They still need to get
that, you know.
Oh, they have it.
Oh, do they have it?
Okay, all right.
Jason (34:44):
The electronic start.
Jeff (34:45):
Yeah, the.
Jason (34:46):
GTPs, have it, it's dope,
it's beautiful.
Okay, I literally I turn it upevery time.
So we got some new tracks.
Can't have an update withoutnew tracks, and this update
we're doing Mexico CityAutodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for
season four.
This world-class racetrackfeatures real-world racing
(35:10):
across multiple prominent racingseries, including TCR, nascar,
f1, formula 4, Formula E andnumerous touring and GT events.
In iRacing, we have constructedseven configurations.
Yes, let's go.
That means you buy one track.
You basically get seven tracks.
(35:31):
Technically, that will provideracing opportunities across
multiple iRacing cars and series.
At 2,238 meters or 7,343 feetabove sea level, the thin air
results in less aerodynamic dragon the cars, allowing them to
reach incredible high top speedson the main straight Along with
(35:55):
those higher speeds speeds, there's also less downforce as a
result of the thin air, whichmakes cornering and the interest
interesting propositiondangerous yeah.
Jeff (36:04):
So mexico city, yeah they
actually take in the elevation
the tracks at and the car shouldgo faster yeah, you know, it's
incredible what they're doing.
Jason (36:15):
Um, I, every time and
again, guys, we get an update
every quarter, so every threemonths we we just has it been
three months already.
I know it's hard to believe thatit yeah, so all in part, one of
the most race tracks on iRacingsir of the iRacing service and
a key part of many iRacingRookie Series schedules.
(36:35):
We have been fortunate to havebeen racing on Alton Park and
iRacing for many years andmillions of laps have been
completed.
Our team has rebuilt Alton Parkartwork from the ground up,
remodeling and retexturing allobjects, scenery, retexturing
the track surfaces and updatingthe trees and foliage.
Please note that this is an artrefresh.
(36:57):
It's not a rescan.
This update is provided free ofcharge to all iRacers, so this
is a free track.
It's already free to begin with.
That's cool it gets a facelift.
Jeff (37:11):
Yeah, yeah, it looks like
something new, familiar track,
but a different.
Yeah, facelift.
Yeah, yeah, yeah it looks likesomething new.
Jason (37:16):
Same familiar track, but
a different yeah, facelift.
So in in each of the past twobuilds we have shipped art
refreshes and track rescans forroughly uh, you know two out of
three of the tracks that werepart of the nascar schedule with
season four.
We are thrilled to release thefinal third, so three of three
and then we can move on fromnascar to formula.
Jeff (37:33):
Let's get some.
Jason (37:34):
Formula, please you know.
But the final phase includesDaytona International Speedway,
which I'm a massive, massive, massive, massive, massive fan of
.
Iconic, iconic, the best.
I think that has to beAmerica's most popular track.
That or Indy One of the two, orVRR or Virginia, right, yeah,
yeah, virginia's up there orVirginia, right, yeah, yeah,
(37:54):
virginia's up there, Indy too,but no, but Daytona bro, Daytona
I mean you got the 500, you gotthe 24 Hours.
Jeff (38:02):
Two of the most yeah, imsa
, all of them.
Yeah, I think you're prettysafe saying it's one of the top.
Jason (38:08):
To me and Watkins too,
watkins, but Circuit of the
Americas, part of the refresh, watkins Glen International,
chicago Street Course and TexasMotorsport Speedway.
And we got some re-scans forthe WWT Worldwide Tech Raceway,
charlotte Motor Speedway, whichagain I'm a fan of the Roval, so
(38:32):
the Rovals, so partial Rovalrescan, north Wilkes-Barre
Speedway, sonoma Raceway andRockingham Speedway.
They say that they might haveto hold back Rockingham Way.
We may hold this back until apatch.
That's what I'm going on withit.
So it's worth noting that these30 track refreshes and rescans
(38:54):
have all been made available forfree to our racers who own
these tracks.
Jason, what did you say Forfree?
Erick (39:03):
For free.
I like for free.
Jason (39:06):
With a subscription.
You got it, we got to be realtalk here.
Jeff (39:09):
You can tell your wife or
your spouse they gave it to me.
Jason (39:15):
Just.
I'm telling you guys wait, wegot November right.
No wait, november is like rightaround the corner.
That's the time to top up onyour iRacing.
Save a lot of money doing itlike that.
So that covers the contentbasically.
Now we're going on to thisbeautiful, modern looking.
Compared to what it is now, this is 100,000 times better
(39:38):
100,000.
Than what we're staring at andyou're understating it.
Jeff (39:43):
Understating it.
Jason (39:44):
Yes, I mean this looks.
Erick (39:46):
That looks so clean.
It looks modern.
Jason (39:49):
It looks 2020 at least.
I would say yeah.
Yeah, iracing ain't perfect,I'll grill it too.
I'll grill all of them.
You know it's a grill session,but yeah, let's go.
Let's start with the new SIM UI.
Jeff (40:06):
It's called let's call it
Legacy.
Jason (40:08):
UI for clarity, they're
even acknowledging it.
They're like dude, it's kind ofancient.
So you know the racing.
The UI served us well for manyyears, right, the previous one,
providing a dependable way tointeract with the sim.
However, due to a dated andinflexible architecture the
choice of words here interestingthe legacy UI has limited our
(40:37):
ability to expand the simexperience and has been overdue
for complete re-architecture andmodernization.
Approximately two years ago, weembarked on a journey on a
journey, excuse me, to rebuildour sim ui, assembling a team of
engineers, designers and uxprofessionals to tackle this.
They evaluated severaltechnical options before
settling on an integrating andmodern powerful.
(40:57):
Somebody help me read thisX-A-M-L.
Erick (41:02):
XAML, xaml, xaml, yeah,
xaml.
Jason (41:06):
That is not my forte,
maybe the top gentlemen saved us
, or the tech gent, they'llprobably know what I'm talking
about.
Yeah, so that's what it's basedon the XAML, whatever that is,
it looks great.
Through our evaluations, we areconfident in technology.
We meet up strict requirementsfor performance on multiple
display types.
Look at this, look at this.
(41:29):
I love it.
Jeff (41:30):
Oh, that's clean dude.
That black box looks like.
Look at the the speed limit.
Jason (41:34):
It's got like an actual
sign limit.
That's kind of cool.
Erick (41:38):
Yeah, that's nice.
I like that the exit sign isdifferent up there.
Yeah.
Don't look like the firstprogram.
Jason (41:46):
Or at an airport.
You know where the guy'srunning like this, and it's in
green and that's the signifier.
That's what it looks like Likewhere's the exit, and the guy's
like this follow him, that guyso throughout the project, the
team has been focused on avirtual vital factor.
(42:08):
Every critical feature availablein the legacy UI had to
function correctly in the new UI.
Thank you, don't releasesomething broken.
Yes, wait, yeah, I like that.
Iracing is a deep and complexsimulation that encompasses
various genres of motorsport, each with unique requirements
for how the UI representsinformation when we open up and
(42:29):
look inside the two primarysimulation screens.
So we're going to skip aheadhere and just give you a preview
of you know, this is the setupscreen and this tells you when
it passed.
It's got a nice, you know youcould share it, you can export
it, you can save it.
Jeff (42:50):
It's for the file.
It's nice because I think theway I have it now is you have to
go into the garage, do yourchanges, go back into the like
the home of the race, and itsays, oh, now you passed or you
failed, and you're going to goback and do your change again.
So it looks like here you cando it and see in the same screen
that, whether you pass or not, once I have a live coach
(43:13):
available on demand.
Jason (43:14):
With trophy ai, you'll be
able to practice with Mansell
AI at your convenience a realtime coach in your headphones to
navigate and guide you throughthe track, helping you achieve
race pace.
This tool is awesome as itprovides full brake throttle and
steering telemetry on screenwith the live review getting you
ready for your next big race.
Check links to Trophy AI in thedescription and also use
(43:38):
CHICAIN12 in all caps for a 12%discount.
This is true, right, becauseyou apply and you can go by the
color, but still you have towait for the thing to say
checking, then pass.
It's a good point, jeff.
Very good point Says.
Our focus for the release hasbeen on delivering all existing
features, right, as we covered, primarily, we wanted you to be
(44:01):
able to start iRacing andcontinue with as little fuss as
possible, thank you.
That being said, we highlyrecommend taking the time during
week 13, look at them preparingus To familiarize yourself with
the refreshed featuresdescribed below and take a
moment to customize your layoutvia Alt-K.
Thank God they didn't removethe Alt-K, bro, so if you guys
(44:24):
don't know, if you press Alt-K,you can move all the elements on
the screen customized to whereyou want them to be.
I don't need to see a greenflag dead in my face.
Erick (44:37):
Where's this been my
whole life?
Jason (44:39):
It's like way in the left
side of the top.
Erick (44:42):
I don't need that I
didn't know that You've been
holding it to yourself.
Jason (44:47):
There you go, man.
I mean, there you go.
Look so, tool tips.
Right, this is self-explanatoryTool tips.
You hover over the mouse, ittells you what the option does.
Same options redesign Optionshave been significant
reorganization, including themerging of the replay and the
driving graphics option.
Great, so not 10 tabs to gothrough.
(45:09):
Give me one Alt-K to move UI.
See, when pressing Alt-K tomove elements around, you'll
find an additional togglecontrol to enable, disable all
movable elements.
So now it's easier to visualizethose elements which normally
only display when activated.
And this is good, you know, because I have a DDU on my rig
(45:31):
and some of those elements arebehind the DDU and if I didn't
have the option to do this, Icouldn't move them, like just
above it, you know, to be ableto see it you know, and that's
how you check damage in iRacing.
There's no other way.
You got to ask the spotter.
So virtual mirror size control.
You know same thing, right, okay, who knew?
(45:52):
Who knew that you can controlthe virtual?
Jeff (45:56):
it only took them yeah,
but like I was reading that and
I was like I didn't even know Iwanted that.
But now I want to be able tochange the size of my virtual
mirror yeah, maybe you don'twant it that big yeah, didn't
know, I wanted that, but I donow it's good for streaming too.
Jason (46:14):
So if you're streaming
Eric streaming on Tech Gen
Gaming, I highly recommend toput a virtual mirror, because
nobody can see behind you andit's kind of nice, so that the
audience can see what the hell'sgoing on, that you just got hit
.
If not, they don't believe you.
So black boxes.
Rob Markman Speaking ofexperience.
(46:34):
I swear I've learned a lot, man.
You know I've been through alot.
So, black boxes these have nowbeen minimized and expanded
states, which I don't know whatyou mean.
The expanded state displaysadditional columns.
Okay, we're just getting it.
Okay, I'll wait for it to dropReal world clock, which is nice.
(46:54):
Daniel Newman implemented thisbefore iRacing, but now you got
an actual clock, so that way youknow what time it is.
Jeff (47:03):
I didn't know if it was
like the casinos.
You know how you go intocasinos and there's no clocks
anywhere, so you have no idea ofhow long you've been there,
right.
Jason (47:10):
So they don't do an
iRacing, so they have no idea I
gotta be at work in 20 minutesdude casinos never have um 90
(47:31):
degree walls.
Did you know that?
They just keep.
They always curve because ifyou have to stop to turn, you
think about it.
But if the wall, it's justweird bro it's like if it if the
walkway is curved.
You want to reach the endbecause you don't know where
it's going.
It's some mind shit going on.
Erick (47:51):
Let's get some money on
that, for sure.
Jason (47:54):
But now we got a real
world clock.
So you know, just don't tellthe wife because you don't have
no excuse now that you losttrack of time.
Jeff (48:01):
That's control F12.
Jason (48:03):
That's right, or out four
, as she's approaching a crash.
So yeah.
So, uh, camera tool redesignokay, we got a new camera tool
control f12 bind still availableawesome, okay.
So I like that they're look atthis, look at this.
I like that they're look atthis, look at this.
(48:25):
I like that they're updating it, but then they're not taking
things away.
I was worried about that.
There's people that have beenracing this in for years and
they already have their buttonsmapped.
They know what things do, andwhen you flip people, when you
change things like that, it'llget a lot of people upset.
Okay, so I'm going to skimthrough this and we're going to
(48:47):
go into probably Eric's favoritetopic, so let me see what's
here.
Let me read this Upon release,we expect to spend time
addressing newly discovered bugs, collecting feedback from
iRacers and applying necessarytweaks.
We are already working onfeatures and additions that are
(49:08):
part of our UI advancementroadmap, and these efforts will
accelerate what's on our roadmap, you might ask.
We're not ready to discussthese features.
Oh my God, what am I reading?
Some of the initial featuresexplored in the developing
include adding an aforementionedtext search feature Okay, you
(49:29):
search.
Color themes, okay, andaccessible views.
Customizing of the drivingscreen, expanded information,
light telemetry capabilities, new Pulse Race functionality,
vr-specific features,minimalistic considerations and
localization oh, and somethingto do with black boxes.
(49:49):
So we are incredibly proud ofthe new UI and excited to share
with you all.
This marks a new era ofopportunity at iRacing, with a
technological foundation thatwill power experiences and
features in ways never beenpossible, right?
Our experiences and features inways never been possible, right
?
So VR I want you guys to take alook at this picture.
(50:12):
Yes, so we are getting foveatedrendering on the sim.
There's no more on device.
That's what it seems like, which would be amazing for
performance.
But before I speak too soon, let me read through here.
Vr is a core way to experienceiRacing and has been a focus of
(50:34):
ours since technology's infancy.
But season four, we continue topush to stay at the front row
of VR technology, in addition ofeye-tracking, foveated
rendering, eye-tracking,foveated rendering this is going
to be game-changing guys,game-changing.
Yeah, this technology is anevolution of fixed foveated and
(50:58):
shares some of the same corebenefits.
Processing power is prioritizedin the most crucial areas to
maximize performance and framerate.
Then I not just say that thatthis is going to save you frames
you know a lot, a lot of framesand it's going to look amazing.
It's going to feel like real.
(51:19):
It's going to get like realmotion blur here in the corner
of your eye.
For heads headsets that supportthis feature fidelity is
prioritized exactly where youreyes are looking, regardless of
the direction of your head ispointed.
This allows racers to movetheir eyes anywhere across the
field of vision and experience acrisp, clean image at all times
(51:42):
, with high frame rates I justmentioned that and fast refresh
rates.
Of course, can't have highframes without high refresh.
I'll talk to them about this.
Jeff (51:57):
Let that sink in for a
second.
It's changing where the displayis focused on, as fast as
you're looking at it.
Jason (52:05):
That's wild, that's GT7.
Gt7 has changing where thedisplay is focused on, as fast
as you're looking at it.
Yeah, that's wild, that's GT7.
Gt7 has this tech.
Jeff (52:10):
Oh, they're doing that
already.
Jason (52:11):
Yeah, wow, I think they
were the pioneers of it.
Jeff (52:15):
You're going to need a
pretty new headset that has eye
tracking, though, like I know, the Beyond 2, the big screen
Beyond 2 has eye tracking.
I don't know other ones that do.
Erick (52:25):
Yeah, yeah man.
Yeah, the big screen.
They have a version that likeone.
One version has it, One versiondoesn't so?
Jeff (52:31):
yeah, you're right.
Erick (52:32):
Yeah.
So if you bought that forracing and now they're coming
out with this support and youdidn't get the one that has the
eye tracking might suck.
Jeff (52:43):
Well, I might know a thing
or two, that they're on order
till november, so you couldchange your order, because I'm
like teeter-tottering on gettingoh, oh, oh.
Jason (52:52):
We're waiting to see what
happens at the expo first, to
see how the funds are going.
Yeah, so check this out, guys.
We still got more, we still gotmore, we still got more.
You know, hey, we're going to.
We got to pull through.
Erick (53:08):
Rendering yeah.
Jason (53:09):
As part of our long-term
initiative to rebuild the
iRacing rendering engine.
This one's important.
We have found opportunitiesalong the way to bring more
immediate benefits to thecurrent iRacing experience.
With Season 4, we continue thistrend by introducing new
technology that sets thefoundation for significant
improvements down the road.
Modern texture compression thistech replaces our former
(53:34):
texture compression and issubstantially more efficient.
So this will be light on yourvideo cards that don't have a
lot of VRAM.
I promise you that's got to bewhat they're aiming here.
Says.
This change will be transparentto iRacers, aside from some
initial downloads, with benefitsoccurring behind the scenes
(53:57):
during the rendering process.
I hesitate to give too muchaway, but I will say the savings
and textures footprint have ourcar painters salivating for
future expansion of paintcapabilities.
So that trust me.
And finally, localization.
We are excited to share thatiRacing is now a far more
(54:19):
globally accessible product withseason four.
We support languagelocalization in iRacing and
iRacing Web.
The SID and the companion appare not quite yet supported.
This project involvedsubstantial technical
architecture changes and as wellas an establishment of process
(54:40):
and workflows to translate vastamounts of text that is often
contextual and nuanced,requiring subject matter
expertise SME.
There are some features thatI'll be rolling out during
season four.
Okay so, man, I mean you knowthey're launching, we will
launch with European Spanish.
(55:01):
I mean, what about Puerto RicanSpanish, man?
So we got Latin Spanish, german, french, italian, portuguese,
brazilian Portuguese, and morewill follow in the December and
March builds.
So that pretty much covers thebulk of what's happening in like
(55:21):
three weeks from now.
Jeff (55:23):
Jason, how much does all
this stuff cost you?
This is free of cost To youradditional iRacing subscription.
Zero additional costs.
Zero additional costs.
How about that?
Wow Okay, I was just curious.
Erick (55:40):
To your point.
You are paying an ongoingsubscription, and so that's
what's kind of fueling thisdevelopment Fair point.
So it's kind of fueling thisdevelopment.
So it's not free, it justdoesn't cost you anything.
Jeff (55:51):
No additional cost.
Erick (55:52):
Yeah, no additional cost.
Jason (55:54):
So, okay, my take on that
right, my take on that argument
, is if other Sims, withoutmentioning names, are going to
charge me a monthly subscriptionand then obligate me to pay the
entire year, so I don't have amonthly option.
It's either the entire year ornothing.
I want to see development likethis.
(56:15):
I want to see no bugs.
I want to see things gettingfixed.
You know what I mean.
The amount of times I hadcrashes with LMU were crazy, and
I have a top end machine.
I'm not trying to flex at alland I'm trying to give it, but
when it did work, it worked well.
I will tell you that it workedwell.
(56:36):
So I was a little strong on it,you know, on the last video we
made.
But so here we have someimprovements.
I mean, we're almost damn nearnow.
We're in, so I'm gonna leavethe link here in the description
.
These are not coming out.
So I mean, these are, you know, future developments, something
(56:58):
that they're doing some trees.
You know that.
You know they got the trees.
The trees look way better nowwith the new render.
You see that on the bottom, youknow, on the left is the new
one and the right they just looklike twigs bro.
But I mean, who is staring attrees when I'm doing 200 plus?
Jeff (57:20):
You took the words out of
my mouth, bro, like sometimes
good enough is good and puteffort other places.
Erick (57:27):
When I just ran into the
wall.
The tree is a very importantthing to look at.
Jason (57:31):
then, when I'm sitting
there contemplating my life, If
I ran out of gas on track, I'dstart looking at the trees, the
birds.
Erick (57:40):
Yeah, man, I need
something to look at while I'm
thinking.
Jason (57:44):
Again.
I knew this was going to happen, bro.
We had an episode packed.
I tried, I tried.
It was like I'm trying to gothrough it, but I have to give
it the honors.
But that is no.
Actually we went over a fewthings on the show, right.
It wasn't just high racing, wedid other things.
Erick (58:06):
We did some important
stuff.
Jason (58:09):
All right, guys, we're
going to have to skip track of
the week again, and Jeff hasbeen itching, itching.
Jeff (58:17):
It's ready to go.
Jason (58:18):
To get his thing ready to
go, and something always
happens.
But this is good, right,Because I mean we have so much
content to cover here on theshow.
That is a good thing.
That makes me feel good.
It makes planning things easy,right.
And another great thing isgetting emails from you guys.
I mean that is probably thebest part of the show, right Is
(58:42):
we can look at updates and getexcited, but nothing is more
personal than an email to theteam.
So we need to go over those, definitely.
And before I forget, we need toshout out Wait, wait, wait,
wait.
Let me find the notes.
I think, Eric, I think you gotthe first one, which is from Go
ahead, Won't steal your thunder.
Erick (59:04):
Oh, yeah, from go ahead.
Jason (59:05):
Won't steal your thunder
which is an og uh um, you know
an og, a loyal fan.
But before we get into that, Ijust found the name, sorry, eric
justin ruger.
Thank you so much for providingthe stls to those uh mounts
jeff is over here drooling overthem.
He just came back from vacation.
Jeff (59:31):
Yeah, we're going to fire
the 3D printer up here shortly.
Jason (59:33):
But yeah, he's ready to
execute on the print job.
So I just wanted to thank you, clean.
I wanted to thank you forproviding the files and if you
do have a link, feel free tosend it to me or to the chicane
podcast at gmailcom and I'llpost a link if you want to make
them public or, if you want.
If you use bamboo, we couldboost you.
(59:55):
So we'll boost you on theforums, let me know.
But anyways, eric, what we gotfrom our OG, I don't want to
mention his name.
That's taking the honor away.
Go ahead.
Erick (01:00:07):
Yeah, man, yeah man.
So the title of this email is14 More Sleeps.
So he's talking about the timeto the expo and, like you said,
this is an OG.
This is our friend Bob Burke, along-time listener of the show.
Long-time fan of the showAppreciate you Appreciate you
supporting this man and stayingon this ride with us.
(01:00:30):
But he says Hi, jason, eric andJeff.
A quick note to say how much Icontinue to enjoy your podcast.
I listen to your show mostlywhile driving.
The show is a special treatfrom Jan to June when I deliver
to NYC Okay and head up the I-95on Monday mornings.
It really helps pass the miles.
(01:00:51):
Thanks for that.
I'm very much looking forward tohearing your stories and
feedback from the Sim RacingExpo in Chicago next month.
Would love to be going and meetyou all in person, but perhaps
another year.
I'll be interested in hearingyour reports on new products
that will no doubt be launchedin conjunction with the expo, as
I am thinking of upgrading someof my kit.
Currently I'm running allFanatec, which seems to be good,
(01:01:13):
but I am looking for more powerand feedback than my CSL DD
provides.
Also looking for a bettersoftware experience with my sim
gear.
I'm looking at the SimMagic EvoPro, but waiting to see if the
Zeus wheels will be releasednext month before I order.
If no release is announced,I'll go with the Evo Pro and the
GT Neo.
Also, I wrestled for quite awhile for quite a while the
(01:01:36):
replacement of my Fentac ClubSport pedals, as the P1000
really appealed to me, with theRomo Motors and hydraulic
upgrade kit, not to mention howgood they look.
But I have settled on myoriginal choice of Hewsonville
Sprints.
Again, I'm waiting until theexpo just to see if there are
any new options that I mightwant to look at before upgrading
(01:01:58):
.
So, yes, I'm looking forward toyour post-expo show to see if
there's anything new andexciting on the market.
In the meantime, keep up theexcellent work.
It's been great to follow youguys from your first podcast to
your 100th anniversary to yourfirst sponsor.
I'll be subscribing to TrophyAI once I have my new gear.
All the best from PEI Canada.
Jeff (01:02:20):
Bob.
Erick (01:02:20):
Shout out to Bob he's a
real one.
I don't care what nobody sayGot a problem with Bob you got a
problem with Bob.
You got a problem with me, man, hold on, I'm telling you.
Jason (01:02:28):
Bob is untouchable.
Erick (01:02:29):
Yeah, man.
Jason (01:02:31):
And all the pedals he
mentioned are actually really
good choices.
I mean the P1000 is a solid setof pedals.
Erick (01:02:39):
Yeah, a little bias, but
you know yeah.
Jason (01:02:43):
I mean, you really can't
go wrong with either, or He'll
be fine.
He'll be fine with those foryears.
Erick (01:02:50):
They'll keep you busy.
Jason (01:02:51):
Yeah.
Oh yeah, now upgrading to a newmotor.
There's so many options too,bob.
You have I think it's V&Mscoming out.
They have VRS motors.
Some of these motors yeah, somany.
Now Moza got some new onescoming out.
They have VRS motors.
Some of these motors yeah, somany.
Erick (01:03:05):
now Rob Markman Jr Moza
got some new ones coming out.
I mean it's-.
Jason (01:03:08):
Rob Markman Jr.
Moza got new stuff coming outSimMagic, evo.
I've heard things with theirsoftware, but it's not something
they can't patch.
I don't want to say-.
Jeff (01:03:22):
Rob Markman Jr.
They push updates all the time.
It's like every time I restartmy computer they want me to
update that software.
Erick (01:03:30):
And it's usually
Evo-focused, evo-related stuff.
Jeff (01:03:33):
Yeah, yeah.
Erick (01:03:35):
So that's good, but also
kind of, if you haven't updated
a lot, that means you got a lotof stuff to fix.
Jason (01:03:41):
That's a true point.
It can mean but they're workingon it.
Many things it could yeah, fair.
It could mean many things, buthonestly, those are great and,
bob, thank you so much.
Erick (01:03:53):
Yeah.
Jason (01:03:54):
I would love to meet you,
bob, so if you can't make it
this year, don't worry, man, wegot you covered.
We got you.
We got this event on lock.
Trust me, this message came inbefore we had the update with
George, so I hope you enjoyedthat episode, bob.
On behalf of the team here.
Jeff (01:04:12):
As we're going to be
telling George Bob, we'll see
you next year.
Jason (01:04:15):
There you go.
Erick (01:04:16):
Exactly.
Jason (01:04:17):
Hell yeah, hell yeah.
And I love truck driving too.
So send us a picture of the rig.
I love rigs.
I'm a Peterbilt guy, though Ifit ain't a Peterbilt, don't send
it my way.
So we got another message fromand it's a handful from DJJM09.
(01:04:38):
And that is not his email.
That is the guy's name.
So what's up?
Djjm09?
It says wheelbase upgrade.
How's it going?
Everybody, it's DJ underscoreJM09.
I am a huge fan of the podcastand appreciate your honest
opinions.
Thank you, thank you andeverything sim racing related.
(01:05:01):
I have a question aboutwheelbases and upgrading.
I currently have a Logitech GPro wheelbase and was thinking
about upgrading to a Simucube 2Pro.
Would this upgrade actually besignificantly better and offer
better FFB experience comparedto my current wheelbase, or am I
better off just getting a newwheel compared to my default
(01:05:25):
D-shaped wheel that's shippedwith my wheelbase?
Thank you all so much for yourtime and I appreciate and love
all of your videos.
They have been so helpful andinformative.
So, dj underscore JM09, thankyou so much.
Dm09, thank you so much.
(01:05:47):
The logic okay.
Is it a significant improvement?
I mean you got to look atspec-wise slew rates and overall
smoothness, the thing that Ilike the most about my Simicube
(01:06:14):
2 Pro is that the profiles arebuilt by professional drivers
and it's a little less legworkon me to fine tune a setup
faster.
On top of the build quality.
On top of that, this base hasbeen out for almost seven, eight
years and they're built likesolid tanks.
However, if you already have aworking base right, I mean you
(01:06:36):
got to ask yourself, you know, the resale value of a Logitech G
Pro.
This is just being honest.
That's quite a jump.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, so I would weigh theoptions.
Or, better yet, you can comedown to the Sim Gaming Expo.
They're going to have semicubes there.
(01:06:57):
You put your hands on them andtry them.
I'll be honest with you I don'thave any experience with a
Logitech G Pro.
Erick (01:07:05):
I don't think any of the
fellows do here.
Yeah, never touched one inperson.
Might be at the expo, but as ofright now have not, Right so
let me ask, I guess real quick.
Have you noticed any differencein like Sims Like some Sims
being able to take moreadvantage of the semi-cube
(01:07:27):
features versus others?
Jason (01:07:31):
it used to be, I used to
be I racing was exclusive to
semi-cube the 360 Hertz um.
So I'm looking up thiswheelbase right, the G Pro.
This is a $1,200 wheelbase, bro.
This thing is not cheap.
Erick (01:07:48):
Yeah, it's expensive.
I was going to say the-.
Jason (01:07:51):
But it's only got 11
newton meters of torque.
Erick (01:07:55):
Yeah, it's 11 newton
meters, proprietary.
As far as the wheels that youcan use, it doesn't give me much
.
Jason (01:08:02):
Honestly, eric, it
doesn't give me much.
It gives me height, length, width and weight and torque.
I don't see slew rate?
Jeff (01:08:11):
How many newton meters is
the semi-cube when he's looking
for?
Jason (01:08:16):
25 newtons.
Jeff (01:08:19):
If he could get a decent
resale price on the Logitech, I
don't think he'd regret doingthe deal at all.
Erick (01:08:27):
I mean the fact that he's
looking at it, not pocket
watching, but-.
Oh, wait, a minute wait aminute, wait a minute, wait a
minute.
Jason (01:08:37):
We're going to do this
live on the show because I am
wrong.
So the base I'm assuming he hasthe Pro DD11 wheel base is
actually $599.
It's not 1,000 change.
Like I said before, I'm notfamiliar with this one, but what
we were looking at before wasthe combo that comes with the
(01:08:57):
wheel.
It's probably what he gotanyway, the G Pro with the wheel
.
That makes it $1,000 plus.
So, theoretically speaking,still high.
Still 11 newtons.
Still 11 newtons.
Erick (01:09:15):
But not bashing it or
anything like that, but just to
your point, the resale.
Jason (01:09:21):
Because I would say the
absolute minimum would be 12
newtons.
Because I would say theabsolute minimum would be 12
newtons.
But then if you have a 12newton base if it existed you're
going to clip the hell out ofthat wheel as soon as you hit 12
, you're going to lose all forcefeed, it's going to clip.
So I would say a bare minimumof 15 to actually get a solid
(01:09:43):
wheel, a solid base that you cangrow with.
That's why the guys here wentwith SimMagic, because it was a
good price.
It was 15 newtons.
So you know build quality isgreat.
On the wheelbases.
I haven't heard much issuesfrom people on those.
Jeff (01:10:00):
Yeah, I mean, I drive mine
two to three nights a week and
I've had it.
For what?
Probably a year now.
Jason (01:10:05):
No, there's.
I mean I drive mine two tothree nights a week and I've had
it for what?
Probably a year now.
No, there's.
I mean there's a lot ofcreators that main SimMagic and
they use it every day, you know,or?
Jeff (01:10:13):
like and I bought Eric and
I bought it one given.
Erick (01:10:16):
Yeah, yeah, it was
definitely not given to me.
Jason (01:10:19):
It wasn't a gift, even
though we would love gifts.
Jeff (01:10:21):
They did not give it they
didn't even though somebody.
I tell them they gave it to meyes, there you go.
Jason (01:10:27):
so I mean, uh, if you, if
budget allows, I'll say this,
do it, do it and you willdefinitely feel a massive,
significant difference from thisto you.
The thing about this base isthat it's console compatible, so
I'm assuming he's on PC.
(01:10:48):
I'll tell you what, jm09, sendme a follow-up update, a
follow-up, send the show, afollow-up update to the Chicane
Podcast at gmailcom and I'llhelp you out.
We'll talk.
Jeff (01:11:03):
If you haven't done the
deal already.
Jason (01:11:05):
If you didn't buy it
already, because if you're like
me, send us a out.
We'll talk If you haven't donethe deal already, if you didn't
buy it already, because ifyou're like me, send us a
picture.
Yeah, exactly.
Erick (01:11:10):
That's a good one.
Yeah, so, jason, is there awheel that you'd suggest, with
him getting that semi-cube,because he can't use the
Logitech wheel, so he has to geta new wheel as well?
Jason (01:11:23):
Honestly in today's
market, depends wheel as well.
Honestly, in today's market, itdepends on what it's into right
, right, right.
But if you want to save somemoney, a good versatile option
would be the conspit, your newconspit wheel.
Erick (01:11:34):
Yeah, that's true.
Jeff (01:11:36):
I think, I did a little
section on that one huh yeah, A
couple episodes ago.
Jason (01:11:41):
Yeah, and I heard great
things about it, so like $399,.
Jeff (01:11:44):
It's got a small screen,
does everything good.
Jason (01:11:49):
Yeah, it's got a little
screen, it's a little versatile
and I've heard great things fromthat at a decent price.
That way you're not hurt somuch from the purchase of you
know, assuming of the Simi Cube.
So that's what I would do.
Jeff (01:12:09):
It's a great, great, great
piece of advice with that wheel
.
I think that wheel is going tofind its home in a lot of rigs.
Jason (01:12:15):
Yeah, and if you outgrow
the conspit, it will sell.
I believe it will easily sell.
It's a popular option nowadays.
The Simagic TT Nail is anotherpopular option.
Just have to be careful withthe amount of torque that you're
putting into this wheel.
Just be mindful of that.
(01:12:39):
That's the only thing, and withthat guys roundtables we got to
close this one down.
It's been fun, like always it'salways fun.
Jeff (01:12:41):
We're coming down to the
end of F1 summer break.
Jason (01:12:45):
Oh, this weekend bro.
Jeff (01:12:47):
It felt like it's been
like six months this summer
break.
Jason (01:12:51):
It feels oh my God, yeah,
and I'm paying for a
subscription.
Man.
Erick (01:12:55):
I know right.
Jason (01:12:56):
Let's talk a little bit
about that, all right.
Erick (01:13:01):
All right.
Jason (01:13:02):
So I don't have anything
else.
Jeff (01:13:04):
Eric, Jeff, we're all good
, eric, jeff, drive fast, break
late gentlemen drive.
Jason (01:13:08):
We'll see you guys in
chicago we will yeah we will.
We will fly fast and land early.
Erick (01:13:16):
Yes, and safe we will
land safely so stay tuned.
Jason (01:13:21):
this is is exciting, this
is going to be yeah, my future
self can't wait.
Jeff (01:13:29):
My current self can't wait
.
Jason (01:13:33):
All right, gentlemen,
thank you so much.
Have a great start of your week, thank you.
