Jason (00:21):
The Hello and welcome to the Chicane Podcast, where we
discuss all things in the simracing world.
I'm your host, Jason Rivera, and I'm joined here by Mr Eric

(00:42):
Kelly and Jeff Smart.
How's everybody doing today?

Jeff (00:46):
Doing good man Dude, gentlemen, awesome seeing you
guys Ready to get into it today.

Jason (00:52):
Hell yeah, man.
So there's been a lot of thingshappening in the community, a
lot of great things, and webrought up 3D printers and they
have changed my life the sameway.
Eric can kind of back me up onthis.

Jeff (01:10):
And yeah, so a lot of go ahead.
Jeff, I was going to say Ithink a lot of our listeners too
are in the 3D printing game orready to jump into it, because,
boy, that monopolized the topicsfor all the comments, oh yeah.

Erick (01:23):
I'm telling you, man, it took over man.
I understand now I understandwhy, though, for real, Right.

Jason (01:31):
I mean to be honest with you.
3d printing is a community ofitself.
It's not just the thoughtstarted with.
I'm going to buy this for simracing because I'm a sim racer
and I want to save money on Etsyand giving Etsy the middle
finger even though we like Etsy, etsy don't get mad at us.

(01:53):
And then I found out that oh, Ihave these files.
And then this person hits me upand they have that file.
And then we have somebody inthe comments that's building an
A86 entire dashboard, a Corolla86 dashboard that's wild yeah,
using a printer that's being.
It's being made in your face.

(02:15):
Take a few hours.

Erick (02:17):
It's like Christmas you go to sleep and wake up, and the
thing that you were wantingbefore you went to sleep is
there no shipping, no delay, like in my mind.
It's even more of hey if wehave another pandemic.

Jason (02:34):
I'm ready.

Erick (02:35):
Listen bro To the next level.

Jason (02:39):
And guys, I mean I know we touched a little or I mean I
guess we had kind of a deep divewith Eric about bamboo devices
and we went in detail on pricingand what you can do and the
capabilities.
I think it's fair to do a parttwo and show the software,

(03:01):
because the software at firstright, it's a little
intimidating.
You open this thing and it hasa thousand tools, but then when
you learn how to use it whichtook about 15 minutes to learn
how and what buttons do and whathave you.

Jeff (03:19):
Oh, jason, did you get one .
Oh, yes, oh, you got one.

Jason (03:25):
While we were recording the podcast.

Jeff (03:28):
It's so true, yes, because you know, we do a full screen
layout, so I have a little timeto hide, you know what I'm
saying.

Jason (03:34):
So I had another window and I was adding it to the car
and I hit buy, so you knowthat's great.

Jeff (03:41):
You got a hell of a deal though man, dude, people don't
know, we do a little hang aroundsession after we record.
But Jason was like hey, everybody check this screen out,
I'm going to share, and nokidding.
The echoes had barely gone awayfrom the session and my boy
over here was hitting click, click, click, click, click.
Credit card buy.

Jason (03:59):
Within seconds it was there's my first print right
here.

Erick (04:03):
There's, I got my I got my benchy over there I have hold
on, I'll do.

Jason (04:09):
I'll do a, mr kelly.
Wow, this is gonna be difficultto get out.

Jeff (04:13):
I have got no lie, maybe 300 text messages from you
knuckleheads strictly about 3doh, we're doing that on purpose.
Oh, we are overwhelming thechat, like, like I said, like
you guys give me a hard timelaying it on thick on me oh yeah
I I recorded a clip of our ownepisode and was dying, laughing

(04:36):
when he was like, laying it onthick, I was just, I couldn't.

Jason (04:42):
I couldn't breathe.
I was like Jeff, you killed mewith this.
So you know, oh man, and thisright here right is kind of like
what Eric displayed.
He had it in like this, I guess, what do you call that?

Erick (04:56):
Yeah, like little palettes Right.

Jason (05:00):
And that's the thing it's like.
It's not just one thing Like oh, I need to go and print what
Eric printed.
No, there's like a hundredthousand variations of it.
There's remixes, there's colors, there's all kinds of stuff.
And I just printed a riser.
And it was cool, because when Iwant to pick out a color and I
want to color match it, you see, eric, eric, my man is motivated

(05:26):
, bro, I'm telling you he ismotivated.
Hey, look, see, he grabssomething.

Jeff (05:31):
Y'all bro.
You guys are bad influencers onme Bad influencers.

Erick (05:37):
It's the beginning of the concept of you don't have to do
anything one way.
You don't have to just takewhatever you find With Jason
printing out.
I thought these were coolbecause I printed these out with
the black filament and justsnapped these on.
I thought this was cool becauseyou flip them over, you got the
colors, you got the name ofthem, you can, you know, fill

(05:58):
them or whatever.
Jason's printing out this thingand it looks like a freaking
Rolodex.
He's like hold my beer, watchthis.
Yeah, man, I'm like that lookssmooth man, this looks rinky
Jake man.

Jason (06:12):
Right.
So I mean, there's manydifferent tools I'm going to
show off, but I first want toshow you guys the Bamboo Lab
Studio app.
So let me go ahead and share myscreen and show you how Well.
First of all, before I begin, Idid buy an A1 combo and it was

(06:32):
here for two days.

Erick (06:36):
Yes.

Jason (06:37):
And then I boxed it up, put it in the trunk and sped off
to Best Buy and returned it.
And you think I'm crazy aftersaying all these great things.
Like I said, we bought thiswith the intent of sim racing.
Now I'm thinking about thegarage, woodwork, the backyard,

(07:00):
all kinds of stuff.
So I went and I upgraded to abigger machine, the one where
you can control the temperaturemore for more.
What do you call that?

Jeff (07:11):
Different materials.

Jason (07:12):
Different types of filaments.
Yes, yeah, that are abrasive, and I just wanted a machine.
Nothing wrong with that A1 orA1 Mini, because A1 Mini I'm
still considering adding that tothe arsenal just for PLA, just
for PLA prints, and 90% of simracing gear is printed on PETG
or PLA, so that's just adisclaimer.

(07:34):
Nothing wrong with that machine, I had zero issues with it.
I just wanted something morecapable, because I'm thinking
way beyond sim racing now I'mthinking about you know, I know
Jeff has got his boat.

Jeff (07:49):
You were showing me stuff for the boat and I was like, oh,
I showed him the drink holders.

Erick (07:53):
bro for the rods it's getting really difficult, oh
nice.

Jason (07:56):
Yeah, I'm trying to get him, I'm trying to hit him.
There's got to be somethingwhere he's like, all right, damn
it.

Jeff (08:02):
What I'm thinking is I sell it to the wife as like get
the kid to learn how to print, and sell it as like STEM
development and all this otherstuff.

Erick (08:11):
Well, I need to print stuff around the house.
Stop buying those 3M hooks.
Print out whatever you want.
Listen.
Two words, jeff.
Two words I'm going to tell youright now.

Jason (08:20):
Two words Quality time, that's it.
You are spending time and thisis a good segue to show off the
software that you can learntogether and you can explain how
it works.
And all you need is your brain.
Yeah, all you need is yourbrain and imagination.

Jeff (08:38):
Engineering for the little squirt, yeah, yeah.

Jason (08:42):
I like how he put that.
That's awesome.
I like how he put that, that'sawesome, I like that.
So here is the Bamboo Lab andit has my profile in there.
You know, ghostface is up thereand you can see the there it is
, yeah, the fishing stuff.
There's the fishing rod that werecently opened, and here you
can see my print history, whichhas been involved, as you can

(09:06):
see, and this is on a singleroll of filament.
Um, and this app is like it'sfree you, they update it, it's
free, you get a small version onthe phone side.
It's called the handy app.
It doesn't, it's not asinvolved, but it has the
controls you need as well if youwant to keep things simple, but

(09:27):
if you want full control, like, let's say, look, I'm already
looking at I'm a big RX-7 guy,so I'm looking at rotary engines
and how to make them you know, yeah, and how to make them rolls
.

Erick (09:43):
That's going to be cool.
So I mean that them rolls.

Jason (09:46):
That's going to be cool, that's dope, that's cool.
So I mean, if you guys look atCAD Autodesk software that costs
hundreds of dollars over time, because now everything is a
subscription, everything has asubscription model.
These guys are releasing asoftware that you can manipulate

(10:08):
and view from multiple anglesOops, from multiple angles and
see the height and see how ittouches the bed, and then you
can go in here and you can seethe preview and it does all the
magic for you and it tells youhow much this is going to cost
me this is in dollars, I'massuming Right and how fast it

(10:31):
is.
You have a profile for X1Carbon, which is what I
purchased.
But again, you can go here, youcan go into let me show off
that real quick.
You can select.
The A1 is right there.
You can select that and thenpick it from here and it'll
automatically, if I go back toprepare and preview, it'll

(10:57):
automatically calculate the timethat it would take and it's
actually a shorter time becauseI use a 0.4 nozzle.
I think, um and yeah, and these, yeah, go ahead.

Erick (11:09):
Seamless man like just even thinking about using cad.
Like cad didn't know, you'reabout to put this through a 3d
printer and you're about to usepla filament and you're about to
print it on a bamboo orwhatever.
Like having all that be takeninto consideration and then,
when you hit preview, it'll tellyou hey, the way you have this

(11:30):
lying on there, you need asupport here that you are going
to have a trees, yes, somethinghere, or like it's, it's I, I.
I feel kind of, you know, likeI'm behind the times Me too, To
be so impressed.
Yes, Because this is so.
It feels like they've thoughtof so much in this free

(11:52):
application.

Jeff (11:53):
Eric, you almost sound like you were ready to say it
almost feels like it's made byApple.

Erick (11:59):
No, this is the Apple of 3D printing.
Okay, all right, but that iswhat it is.
I don't know of a situationwhere this software, I haven't
got to a point where this isn'tenough yet.

Jason (12:13):
No, not at all.
Not at all.

Erick (12:16):
But as far as what, they kind of just give you out the
box, like Jason said, a coupleof 15, 20 minutes of just
figuring this out.
Watch a video, maybe.
A couple of 15, 20 minutes ofjust like figuring this out.
Watch a video maybe, and you'realready like taking something
and modifying it and customizingit in the.
You know, the world is youroyster at this point.

Jason (12:33):
Well, yeah, I mean, and you can also, for example, right
, this thing has six plates andlet's say I want this done
quicker.
And let's say I want this donequicker, so I go into prepare
and I can move parts from oneplate to the next plate.
Now watch this.

(12:54):
Now I eliminated a platealready and this is no video
training.
This is no YouTube.
This is straight tinker, justtinkering, moving, seeing how
how things are placed.
I could put this here now.
I saved a crap ton of time andif I want to make this efficient

(13:14):
for and we're using an a1,we're using an a1, we're not
using no top end machine like Ilike, like I showed you guys,
any, any printer can print thistype of stuff.
If I right-click this and Iclick on arrange, it will
automatically group piecestogether to save you filament

(13:36):
and time.
Well, filament is always goingto be the same, but at least
time right, because the longerlike, for example, if I click on
preview now it's going to gothrough the motion, it's going
to detect that it's going totake five minutes to print this
one plate, right, five minutes.
However, if I started doingthis and moving pieces around,

(14:02):
then that means the nozzle hasto travel longer, right, it has
to move over here and traveldown over here.
Now, if I click on preview,it's well wait a minute.

Jeff (14:17):
You were looking at prepare time.

Jason (14:19):
So let's look at it again .
Five hours and 28 minutes, right, I was like five minutes I
was like damn.
I was like damn, what did I doto this Five hours and 28
minutes?
Let's see if it makes adifference.

Erick (14:31):
It should yeah when you hit a range.

Jason (14:33):
Yeah, If it doesn't, then I'm going to look dumb on the
Chicane Podcast right now.
So it's okay, I guess, sametime, same time 528.

Erick (14:43):
So maybe they're moving and these are very similar
shaped pieces.

Jason (14:47):
Maybe because of height.

Erick (14:48):
Yeah, so that might just be the case where, no matter
where you put these pieces, itdoesn't impact the time that
much.

Jason (14:59):
I mean the simple fact that I saved you two plates.
So what does that mean?
These printers have one plateand you have to give them time
to cool down and you have to bethere physically to remove them
off the plate.
So if I can save you, yeah.
So if you can save time byputting stuff on the same plate,

(15:22):
as long as it doesn't affectthe quality, I mean, you're good
to go.

Jeff (15:29):
You need a little automated arm you can press and
it just goes.
Oh, that's the only thingthat's missing.

Jason (15:34):
Yeah.
So another good example is thisbar right here and this is the.
I think it was two hours thatwe saved.
Right, it was two hours perplate, so we saved a lot of time
.
I'm pretty sure already.
So let's say this wasn't arotary.
Let's just imagine that thiswasn't a rotary little engine

(15:56):
thing and you wanted to put atool inside of the print.
You can see the progressionhere from the start to the
finish.

Jeff (16:08):
Yo, that is cool.

Jason (16:10):
And if I want to add, if I want to add a pause, so I tell
the printer to stop at 49,whatever at the height or
whatever, I can put something inthe tool and then have it
resume, or you resume whenyou're ready and it'll seal that
item inside.
So I mean this doesn't justlike little examples of this

(16:34):
software.
You can control your devicefrom here, the same way Eric
explained on his on his coverageon this.
Here you can see the projectthat we're working on, you can
see the preview, you can see theinstructions, you can see well,
I got like straight up PDFinstructions here and your

(16:55):
calibration, right, just sometips for calibration.
And there I mean there you haveit.
I mean it's.

Jeff (17:03):
You know, jason, you me, um, some of the plates that they
have where it's got the carbonfiber texture.
Yes, like that was.
You want to talk about that alittle bit because I think that
is super cool and super relevantfor, you know, sim racing
community that would yes, youare correct cool having go ahead
so let me.

Erick (17:22):
I got to give you a plate too.

Jason (17:24):
Let's open up the Bamboo website.
We are not sponsored by Bamboo.
We would love to.
I would absolutely love to.
I would put a tattoo of Bambooon my arm if they sponsored us.
Just kidding.

Erick (17:36):
It's reserved right here.
I have another spot picked outfor my second prayer already.

Jason (17:40):
Right here, bro.
Yeah, so let me open up thewebsite here.

Jeff (17:47):
It's cool.
I bet you think they have likewood grain ones that give it a
wood texture and stuff like that.

Erick (17:53):
I bet there's Well, you got wood filament bro, you got
wood.
Wood, glass, metal, carbonfiber.
Like yeah, man, it's crazy.

Jason (18:04):
So here's the website.
We're gonna click onaccessories.
You're gonna go to build platesand let's look at those.
Here is your carbon fiber buildplate, meaning, whatever you
print on this plate, it's goingto have a carbon fiber.

(18:25):
Look to it, no matter what.

Jeff (18:27):
And then you have different.

Jason (18:28):
You have a diamond, you have a diamond pattern, which I
also purchased.
I didn't get the starry one,you know, I don't get down like
that, or the Galaxy, but thecarbon fiber man, and then you
can see like different examplesof the texture yeah being
applied.
Look at sim racing guys.

(18:49):
Gear shift simulator.
You can have this in your housethe day of and you can get a, a
, a a mag safe charger, ofcourse, iphone.

Erick (19:02):
And just.

Jason (19:03):
I mean, and then you can see the sparkle which kind of
you know, yeah, that's cool.

Erick (19:09):
the the color transfer one really tripped me out when I
first saw it, because thetexture, sure that makes sense.
But when I saw the color beingtransferred and normally to get
that you'd have to buy like afilm or vinyl or something like
that, right, and you just printit and you pick it up and it's
on there.

Jeff (19:27):
Can you reprint on that spot on the plate, or is it?
It's got to eventually wearaway, right, yeah, eventually.

Jason (19:35):
It'll eventually wear away and it comes-.

Jeff (19:37):
But for 20 bucks or what's that?
$12?

Jason (19:41):
$12.

Erick (19:42):
Yep, and then you can do both sides.
Oh, that's right.

Jason (19:45):
Yeah, yeah.
So this is for the.
If I look at for the A1, it's alittle more.
Yeah, 20 bucks because of thesize right.

Jeff (19:53):
Just to have that capability.
That's wild Right Carbon fiberand it's perfect every time.

Erick (19:57):
You don't have to worry about trimming it up and all
this stuff.
Jeez, good night.

Jason (20:02):
Yeah, and you can kind of see the texture blocks and what
you know.
It tells you how to install it,so you can.

Jeff (20:13):
Almost looks like a forge.

Jason (20:14):
So you buy the plate right.
So you buy the plate and let'ssay you just need spare sheets.
You can buy spare sheets for 12bucks and you could probably
get.
I don't know I got to reallytest that but I've heard
somewhere around 50 or maybe 80prints on a single page.

(20:35):
It all depends on thetemperature, what kind of
material.

Jeff (20:41):
There's a lot of variables with that, yeah, but you don't
use it on what you want, like ifyou didn't care about the
texture, right, you just putdown a flat one yeah, that's how
you do it yeah, flat ortextured or whatever that's
that's a good point too.

Erick (20:55):
You wouldn't necessarily want this particular pattern on
every single thing.
You print exactly for the stuffyou don't.
It comes with a plate.
It comes with a texture plateIf you find the texture pop off
your carbon or whatever, pop onthe normal texture one and you
just save it for thoseapplications.

Jason (21:13):
Or those special prints that show right, yeah, because I
don't need the entire.
I was thinking about that.
I was like man, can I just buycarbon fiber instead of wrapping
it?
Because I'm lazy, I don't likewrapping, I mess it up.

Jeff (21:31):
It's not easy.

Jason (21:31):
Yeah, I wrap a lot of my stuff and it takes time and if
you mess it up or if you get abubble, then you got to use a
needle to get it out, but itnever looks right, never looks
good.

Jeff (21:42):
Yeah, then you got to use a needle to get it out, but it
never looks right, never looksgood, yeah, 100%.

Jason (21:43):
So here you can see a nice.
You know you can use TPU or PLA, which PLA I just mentioned is
the most common filament andit's the easiest to work with
and it's pretty damn strong.
It surprised me how strong itis.
You know for the price.
You know what I mean.
Yeah, surprised me how strongit is.

(22:06):
You know for the price, youknow what I mean.
So so these are the plates, umthat that you can buy.
If you add like two or three ofthem, you can give them for
even cheaper.
So they always try to hook youup with a deal.
But you know, I mean just asmall, I guess, second part to
Eric's topic.
That was so good and it wokenme up to again.

(22:29):
I'm new to this, eric's new tothis.
I'm not new to the tech.
I knew that they existed, buthaving the printer in the house
is a completely differentconversation, completely
different house is a completelydifferent conversation,
completely different.

Erick (22:47):
I think the sale that you guys talked about too is like
the technology, that yourcapability, that you're getting
for that price is ridiculousyeah, and it's, and, to be
honest, the like, the one thatjason moved up to, the biggest
difference is the enclosure andthe other piece to the vertical
height that you can print on,because the bamboo and um, I

(23:09):
mean not the bamboo but the a1and a1 mini, they're kind of
like a fixed height as far aslike how high they can go.
The ones that have theenclosure, they have a higher
vertical height that you canprint.
So if you want to print tallerprints, um, and then, like this
was saying, with the differentmaterials, to have the enclosure
to be able to maintain the heator maintain higher temperature,

(23:30):
that's really, yes, those arereally the biggest benefits, but
the, the nozzle, the printquality the xy as well.
Eric um the xy because Well, eric the XY because the bed
slingers is what they call them.

Jason (23:46):
They move back and forth.
So the nozzle just moves sideto side and the bed moves back
and forth.
It depends on how big the print, but an XY nozzle will do the

(24:07):
moving for you and it keeps thebed still.
So it's a lot more stability onthat.
You know I'm not bad mouthingthe a1 again.

Erick (24:10):
Again, it's a great yeah, that's one thing I forgot, you
can see how many prints I madewith it.

Jason (24:16):
I I really tested it out, you know hey you.

Erick (24:19):
You know how many prints I've made.
Has it stopped yet?
Only for the podcast.

Jason (24:27):
I'm pretty sure Eric had something going on tonight and
he's like yeah, I'm pretty surethat printer was in the house
making noise, the only reason itwasn't going was because I got
to pick up some white filament.

Erick (24:40):
The wifey asked for something to be printed in white
and I didn't have a chance topick it up.
So as soon as I pick it up,it's back to work okay, back to
it.

Jason (24:49):
Well, that that covers, um, I guess, my portion.
My take right.
This is it's only been a weekand I've moved that fast with 3d
printing and what does that?
That means that any viewers outthere, any listeners out there,
can do this.
Anybody can install thissoftware.
It's easy, it's taken care of.

(25:10):
When you see something that'savailable, the settings are
pre-done for you.
They're there for you.
If you want to tinker with it,you can.
If you want a 3D model andimport it into that software, if
you want a 3D model and importit into that software Bamboo
Studio, you can.
I do have one announcement thatI failed to mention.

Jeff (25:31):
Oh, we skipped over those.
Huh, yes, we did.
We'll catch them, we'll getthem.

Jason (25:35):
And it's an exciting time , man, because we are reaching
the end of season five in theGlobal iRacing League and a
gentleman that I will keep hisname anonymous reached out to me
and said that he wanted tocreate a skin for the Chicane

(25:56):
Podcast for the BMW specific.

Jeff (25:58):
Delivery.

Jason (25:59):
Yes, because we don't care about the MX-5.
What car If you're an MX-5.
?

Erick (26:04):
What car?

Jason (26:05):
If you're an MX-5, keep gunning.
You will get up to the BMW side, or that might be your
preference.
I had to.
But I will say this I want tokeep it a secret.
I want you guys to find it, andthe way you'll find it is this
Please email the show at thechicane podcast and let me know

(26:25):
that you have joined the globaliRacing league, and I will send
this skin, this Libri skin, toyou for free.
So that was supposed to be partof the announcements, but the
3D printing just kind of tookover my life again.

Erick (26:42):
You see, we jumped right in there with you, man, we
understand.

Jason (26:46):
And for those that have joined the league, or if you
want to show support for theshow, I would love to see
liveries out there with theshow's name on, at least for a
race.
I mean, I'm not telling you toabandon your skin or liver, I
call it skin, livery, skin.
What have you.
You know, if, if you feel likeyou know giving us a shout out,

(27:09):
or if you want to race it in ain a, in a what you call this,
uh official race, then by allmeans, uh, we would definitely
appreciate that.
So, thank you so much.
You know who you are, that youreached out.
I, I really appreciate you.
Good stuff, man.
And he joins the league, right.
So he joins the league and he'slike, yeah, my mic is kind of

(27:32):
not too great, so I wasn't onthe mic because I'm in the
garage with no AC.
So he's racing in the garageand I'm complaining about heat.
So I mean, I feel for you.
And on top of that, I was like, well, I didn't see you on track
.
Are you in a BMW?
He's like, yeah, I'm in a BMW.
And I was like, well, whatplace did you place?
He's like no, I placed P1 inthe pro series, no big deal.

Erick (27:55):
This guy is killing it.
That's why you didn't see me.
Oh yeah, that's why you didn'tsee me.

Jason (28:00):
Oh yeah, that's why you didn't see me.
I slowly backed away.
All right, so that's a quickappreciation.
We do have something cooking upfor the end of the season, so
stay tuned for that.
A lot of great things happening, a lot of updates happening and

(28:21):
, yeah, we're trying to grow acommunity.
It's a healthy place topractice your skills, learn some
skills and to hang out with us.
If you want to hang out with usand chat for a while and jump
on track, that's where we do it,and we do it every Tuesday and
every Thursday.
Well, we try.
Unless it's raining on track, then we kind of Rob Markman Jr.
I'm just kidding Rob Markman Jr.
Then we have technicaldifficulties, Rob.
Markman, you know yeah, unlessit's raining on track, then we

(28:43):
kind of just kidding working andif you can see the back, it's
kind of blurred out, but the.
I was racing on the skin andand and.
Yeah, this guy behind me isabout to get me, so let me uh
switch cameras cameras and

Erick (29:02):
over to eric, I believe yeah, um, and I had an
announcement too.
It was real quick, uh.
So you know, I'm the residentgt7, uh, representative yes, yes
, yes, uh, so they didn't have aupdate patch, uh 1.56, and it
was a modest patch.
Uh, they added new cars.

(29:22):
They added the bmw z4 threeliter, which is a road car
convertible.
You know, that's kind of gt7thing you get race cars and you
also get road cars.
Uh, they added a pergo um 205,gti, um, hot hatch.
So in, I guess, europe and theuk this car is like a classic,

(29:45):
you know, highly sought aftercar.
So there, I know a lot of guysacross the pond were pretty
excited about that and somethingthat I don't know anybody who's
excited for the mercedes-benz,uh, unimog type 411 1962.
It's essentially just like abig, like military truck if you

(30:10):
want to drive something weird.
I assume that they'll let you doan engine swap at one point so
you can pop wheelies in the thiswith this big truck.
I don't know, dude, if theymake it, people race it.

Jeff (30:20):
That's what I've learned.
I saw a full lobby of peopleracing, nothing but Big truck.
I don't know, dude, if theymake it, people will race it.

Erick (30:23):
That's what I've learned.
Yeah, I saw a full lobby ofpeople racing nothing but these
guys.
Yeah, they were at Imola and itwas-.

Jason (30:34):
Why Imola?
The most boring it can takeforever to go around that.
It's a long ass track.

Erick (30:40):
I know, Going up that hill before the, I'm like you
guys just love torturingyourselves.
I don't have time.
Maybe if I had more time I'd beinto that, but nah, Nah,
nothing's going around man.

Jason (30:54):
All right man.
So today?
Oh, actually, it's over to Jeff.
Now Over to Jack Day.
Thank you, eric, for that.
Appreciate it.

Jeff (31:03):
Yeah, no worries.
So my quick announcement is Idid the Q1 shifter that I
ordered, was delivered and Ihave used the hell out of it.
So I was worried about if youlistened last week I was worried
about it's got a good solidclunk to it with every shift.
It's not bad.
It's really not nearly as badas I thought it was going to be.

(31:28):
Um, okay, so that's.

Jason (31:28):
I was like, oh geez, like how's the feel you like the
feel of the shift bro very, verynice.

Jeff (31:35):
Um, yeah, it's so.
I've been driving a lot ofrallycross lately, lately, which
is like totally different, because you go off track is
there's no, you don't get anypoints for it.
Or or, uh, there's no, plustwos or two x's with it.
Uh, the only time you get, uh,you know incidents is when you

(31:56):
make contact with another carand it's rallycross.
You're gonna hit the other caroccasionally.
Oh yeah, but it is cool and I'mmy new wheels on the way to um
a round wheel.
But when you're driving yougotta leave a little bit out
there for people.
Next episode hey, I ain't doingit All right, they're going to

(32:18):
chew you up in the comments.
I'm just going to let it happen?
The vultures are out there, itis what it is All right, you
guys heard him it might take aminute to get here, but it'll be

(32:38):
worth it.
Okay, dude, rally driving, uh,clicking through the gears and
stuff is awesome.
It just is told it.
It doesn't.
I don't know if it makes mefaster, but it makes me feel a
hell of a lot cooler as I'mclicking through gears, you know
it changes the experience ohabsolutely, especially like
straight going in.
You know it's, it's just awesome.
It really adds a definitely, definitely, uh you to the
immersion of rally cross.
Did a couple um stock carracing with it.

(33:00):
You know it's not an agepattern, but it it fills the gap
pretty well for not an agepattern.
You know what I mean, at leastyou're.
You know clicking gears andstuff.
Um, I don't know NASCAR I'm notsuper familiar with whether it
is a sequential or if they havea four speed there is now the
latest generation car switchedover to sequential.
They did, oh interesting.

Jason (33:20):
Okay, but that's if you're racing the latest gen.
But if you're in the older car, then yes, the H pattern.
But I mean, it's fine dude, youknow.

Erick (33:29):
It's not like you're shifting a lot, bro.

Jason (33:33):
You shift it in high gear gear.
You hold it in tight, maybe onedown, maybe maybe yeah, like
you.
It's not like you're doing awhole lot.
It's already in fourth gear andyou're done.

Jeff (33:42):
Oh yeah, you let go.
You just disconnect it.
Put a usb in something else forcrying that's it uh, but no,
it's awesome.
I'm super pumped.
Um, it definitely, uh, you know, gets me broadening my horizon
out of the Formula which I'vebeen crushing Formula.
That F2 racing is super fastcar and it's a C-Class or

(34:02):
B-Class, clean driving.
Just been having a lot of funin that car in that class lately
.
That's what's up, man.

Jason (34:12):
I miss Formula.
I need to jump back intoformula.
I've been doing a lot of GT uh,strictly GT and I am a formula
person too.
I love formula.
It's a totally different beast.
It's a totally differentapproach, completely different.

Jeff (34:28):
So yeah, I mean going from open wheel formula to the rally
, rally cross.
I mean, you're talking, talking.
You couldn't go from differentsides of the spectrum, um, where
your wheels are spinning morethan you have traction in rally
cross and jumps and goingtechnically off.
You know the dirt and no bigdeal.
Um, you did that in a formulacar, open wheel, you know, and

(34:50):
it, your race is pretty muchdone it's over, yeah so it just,
it just I don't know.
it just I don't know.
It's like, I don't, like I wasdoing a lot of formula, but now
I'm almost like driving anythingis super, it's just, it's a
breath of fresh air to getoutside of just formula.

Jason (35:05):
So I think and to close right, I think that that's how
we all end up, Right.
So the niche starts with onething and it's the same concept
that I just mentioned about 3Dprinting Is your mindset is
going to focus and hone in ontoone thing and then, once you're
able to do that, you're likewell, what else is out there?

(35:26):
You know, I can do this now, Ican do that now.
So I think it's great, I thinkyou get more value out of your
rig yeah, your rig, the, the,the stuff, the thing that you
built.
You know you built it yourself.
And I think it's great to findsomething new, uh, while using
the same hardware or adding justa one piece, you know, maybe.

Jeff (35:48):
And the cool part is not to, you know, continue going
down the road, but you see thegains, a lot bigger chunks.
You know I've been drivingformula now for you know, I
don't know how many seasonswhere I have to really grind to
shave a 10th or two 10ths off.
Um, when I jump on the rally orstock car or whatever I go

(36:10):
around, a lap it's new, fastestlap, new fastest lap lap it's
like.
So it's super fun, like you can.
You're seeing your, yourincrease in uh uh speed and and
pace a lot faster.
You're shaving.
You know tense every lap you goaround, so and learning, like I
think it was, chatter nine gaveme a you know some tip about.
You know the scandinavian flickabout the rally cross.

(36:32):
I'm working on that getting thecar turning, you know, with the
gear shift and the weighttransfer cross.
I'm working on that, gettingthe car turning, you know, with
the gear shift and the weighttransfer, et cetera.
So, um, working on that, it'sjust different.
Yeah, like you said, it just isadds more use to the rig.
I mean, I still love formula.
It's still my pride, you knowmy pride.
You know my pride if I'm goingto get in.
I got one race, that's what I'mdoing, but, um, rallycross or
something else, so, um, so I'mgonna jump into my quick topic

(36:55):
here, okay, and we'll move on ifyou guys are uh cool with that
ready, so I racing has come outwith their season two updates.
Um, so when the new season isover, they're gonna push the
update, and one of those, Ithink, is we'll cover them in a
future episode.
We got.
Oh, I can't wait, bro, a coupleweeks till it comes out, but
but they kind of released it.

(37:15):
Tell me it's the.

Jason (37:16):
UI bro Tell me, Dude.

Jeff (37:17):
I thought they were doing that on the last one.

Jason (37:20):
I know.

Erick (37:21):
Yeah, they kind of previewed it a little bit.
Yeah, yeah.

Jeff (37:24):
A couple of them got pushed in, but here's one that I
wanted.
It's going to hit home to a lotof people.
Here is so they're going tohave add a connection flag.
So this kind of like.
I'm sure everybody's had theproblem in iRacing when you're
driving and the car in front ofyou is blinking, like it
disappears and it appears, disappears and appears, um, you

(37:48):
know.
Or the car in front of you, like, goes into the car to the right
of you and you're like, how didthey not crash?
You know, so, um.
So what iRacing is going to dois flash a connection flag in
that cars.
You know that that is flashing, that you can't see right, that
their network connection isdropped below the standard
threshold for what they deem asan acceptable connection rate.

(38:11):
What that is to be determinedprobably depends on a lot of
variables, right, um?
But what it's going to do isjust drop you into the pits and
you can either wait there untilyour connection um establishes a
rate that is, you know, conducive to racing, um, or you
can go out on the track as justa ghost car.
You'll see all the other cars, the cars won't see you, which is

(38:32):
kind of cool, so you're notwasting the race, at least you
go out and go against I thinkthat's absolutely awesome.

Jason (38:38):
I think that's great because fresh air right.

Jeff (38:40):
There's nothing worse definitely yes we see that go
ahead.

Jason (38:47):
We, we all have something to say about this man yeah, for
real go ahead I get supernervous when I see that, bro.
It's like I can't push.
I can't.
I have an obstacle in my wayand I don't know what's going to
happen.
I can't predict anything.
It's unpredictable.

Jeff (39:02):
It's.
Iracing prides themselves onthe net code, but when you don't
have a network connection forthe net code to kind of guess
where you're going, it's a crapshoot, you know, and it's it
sucks for everybody, because notonly for the person that has a
crummy internet connection, butlike the cars in front of them,
behind them as a side, likethey're suffering too, for which
they don't deserve that stuff.
So it's kind of about time, Iguess, that we did something

(39:25):
that I racing finally pushedsomething like this.
But uh, I think it's going tobe hopefully well received, um
this is not everybody.
This has never been done, dudeI've never seen a game do this.
Yeah, it's always one person ineach race.

Jason (39:38):
I feel like yeah, that'll be dope I think that's great
and that will actually, becausewhen you're blinking you don't
know that you're blinking,unless you're really bad.
You have to rely on someoneelse telling you hey, you,
you're kind of yeah, I try toget on the mic and be like Wait
till you get cussed out.
Yeah Right, but at least they'retrying to say hey, you have a

(40:00):
problem and we're going to putyou in the pits, which sucks.
But I hope that they take theright approach.
Don't penalize someone forhaving a bad connection.
Give them a chance to fix it.
For having a bad connection, let them give them a chance to
fix it, because not everybodyyou know, not everybody has a
stable, high speed internetconnection like they want you to

(40:22):
.
At least give them a chance tosee what they can do about it.
Is there something technical?
Is it a hardware issue?
Is there a service issue?

Jeff (40:31):
Yeah, I think it said they were going to give them the
option to be able to withdraw, too, without penalty.

Jason (40:34):
Without a penalty, great We'll see how that goes, that's
perfect.

Jeff (40:37):
Yeah, because you don't want somebody jumping in just
because they don't want to getwithdrawn and have that hurt
their safety rating, right, sothat's probably the right answer
is let them withdraw without.

Jason (40:48):
Yeah, and it doesn't ruin anybody else's race either,
because that can be terrible.
What either?
Because that can be terrible, but a novel idea, huh yeah, I
think that's great.
I've never seen a sim or gamestraight up kick you out because
of a bag.
I mean there's servers thatwill drop you in shooter games,
but they're usually customserver.
It's not a server like that youpay for.

(41:11):
So I mean you know what I mean.
Uh, yeah, if you got a high soI mean you know what I mean If
you got a high, super high ping, then you might get booted from
the server, but that's automatic.
It's a bot that will do it, butthat's a straight get out, like
they don't throw you the pin.

Erick (41:28):
You have a spike or something like that You're
getting off.

Jason (41:30):
Yeah, but it's usually private.
It's not usually proprietary.
That that I know of.
Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but that's a good find, Jeff.

Erick (41:41):
I've never seen that before.
That'll be nice for everybody.

Jason (41:45):
Right.
I mean, it's not always theSims fault.
There's always two sides to astory man.
You know how it goes.

Erick (41:58):
Yeah, things happen.

Jason (42:00):
All right.
Well, thank you, jeff.
I appreciate that that's a goodfind.
I mean the UI is-.

Jeff (42:08):
It is what it is.

Jason (42:09):
What I'm excited for, but that's a tool that's actually
going to help you and helpeverybody to make sure we have
even cleaner racing.
Now we have another layer ofsecurity on track, which is kind
of cool.
I like it.
And with that it's that time.

(42:32):
And it's time for Track of theWeek, and this this week, mr
Kelly.
Eric, aka the tech gentleman, has the track of the week, and I
don't know what it is.
I never do.
That's a rule here.
So over to Eric.
What's up, man?
Talk to me.
What do we got up?
What are we cooking up thisweek?

Erick (42:52):
hey man, we got a oldie but a goodie.
This is another one share withyou guys here.
Real quick, we've got watkins, glenn watkins classic yeah it's
a wonderful track.

Jason (43:08):
It's one up.
Yeah, it's so fast bro.
I love this track.

Erick (43:11):
Yeah, it's got a good flow, yeah yeah, yeah,
ironically, um, it's been one ofthe ones that we've been racing
on uh, gt7 this week, uh, forsome of the daily races, and I
wasn't super familiar with it,but and we have a it's.
It's kind of the trend, yeah, these, these ads, man, they're
going crazy.
But but it's kind of the trendwhere the more I learn a track,

(43:36):
the more I kind of appreciate it, the more I kind of like it and
, like you're saying, this trackkind of has some everything.
It has some, you know, somesweeping turns, has cane, has
some you know, kind of highspeed straights dude high speed
corners, supervation changes.
Yeah, it's got some everythingman, so yeah, but but yeah, just

(44:00):
kind of getting into some ofthe history, the original layout
, as you guys can see here, thechicane and a lot of the just
general shape of the track isnot there, and it's for good
reason, because this trackbasically was put together to
take the place of some roadcourse races that they were

(44:21):
having in New York where thetrack currently lives.
Where the track currently livesand this track is put together
in an attempt to obviouslyincrease safety, give people a
structured place to go and hostmore official races.
As you guys know, they host alot of NASCAR races here and
they had some formula races herefor over 20 years as well.

(44:41):
The general shape of the trackhasn't changed much.
Like, if we kind of move, uh,they originally started in 1956
and when we get to seven we seethe track changed and you know
it's got some of the you knowkind of character that you guys
see or that you that you'rereally used to seeing with this

(45:04):
track, and they have some of theother forms of the track.
They got the short circuit, theygot the six hour, but generally
this is, you know, back in 71they put together the general
shape of the track that we kindof know and love today, and 75,
you know, they pretty muchdidn't change much.
I mean I guess they, you know, thought they had a good thing

(45:27):
and it wasn't until 92 that theyadded the.
They call it the inner loop, but that kind of high speed
chicane, right.

Jeff (45:35):
Had to slow them down.

Erick (45:36):
Usually is what we've been seeing in the uh yeah, yeah
, that definitely was one of themotivations there.
But just kind of going back tothe history of of the track, um,
I could say, um, first raceswere in 1954 and they were a
combination of formula one racesthat started, you know, in the

(45:57):
60s and ran for 20 years.
But they also did some worldsports, car championship races,
trans am, uh, nascar cup series.

Jason (46:05):
They pretty much, if it's got wheels, they've pretty much
been I wish we had this in theformula one still, and be nice,
oh yeah that that'd be, that'dbe dope, especially taking those
long, that long kind of s intothe street going uphill.

Erick (46:20):
That'd be yeah that'd be cool.

Jason (46:22):
That's another track right in the us that we would
have.

Erick (46:26):
Yeah, yeah, that would.
We need to put that bug outthere, man.
But yeah, but speaking to someof the motivations for track
changes, like I said, the track, the first races were hosted in
1956, but in 71, some of thechanges to the track happened
due to some fatalities, due tosome fatalities.

(46:49):
A couple of the major ones wereFrancois Savert and JD McDuffie
.
Those were some of the racesthat kind of sparked some of the
fatalities that motivated themto make some safety changes and
improvements to the track, tomake some safety changes and
improvements to the track.

(47:10):
And, like I say, they haveseveral layouts which we kind of
know, that they kind of came todifferent cars and they have
the Grand Prix course, the shortcourse, the long course.
This is the one I was going totell you about, jason.
You know we always talk aboutwhat you see when you see the
race course, like the shape ofit.
And the long course here thatyou guys are seeing is actually

(47:33):
called the boot and that's thename of the course.
That design came out in 1971for and they did a formula race
for the debut.

Jason (47:45):
Trying to find to see if I can see it.
I haven't seen it.

Erick (47:50):
I haven't seen the boot, but that's what they call it, so
you know.
Sure I mean I yeah, I mean theysee kind of in this area right
here they have a little areacalled the boot, oh, and they
added it to it Toe, heel Okay.

Jason (48:12):
That reminds me of das boot, remember, uh, from beer
fest.

Erick (48:16):
Sorry, I just had a flashback, yeah, but um, let's
see, but essentially um, eversince 91 they've made some
cosmetic changes.

Jason (48:28):
Oh, I do see that.
Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
I do see the boot.
It's kind of like a shoe.
You see it there.
It's like someone's foot inthere, but that's about it Like
the back half.
Yeah, like the toe.
This is the heel.
There it is.

Erick (48:44):
I can see that I was trying to see the whole track as
the boot.

Jason (48:47):
I just had a brain fart.
I'm sorry If it's just thatarea.
I had a malfunction.
I was just loading A littlebuffering man.
Yeah, for real.

Erick (49:03):
I see the boot now, man.
But yeah, this is one of thosetracks where they do a lot of
NASCAR races here now One of theAmerican tracks.
Would be great if we got someF1.

Jason (49:18):
I would love to see a NASCAR racing here.
I thought NASCAR, no offense.
I thought it was just left-handturns, I don't know.

Jeff (49:25):
No, they got a couple road courses.

Jason (49:28):
I would like to watch those right, Because the oval
ones I don't know.
They got a couple road courses.
I would like to watch those.
The oval ones I don't know,it's hard to watch.

Erick (49:36):
They drive Circuit of America too, kota, we got to
look at some NASCAR races, man.

Jason (49:43):
I know I need to get I heard a statistic.

Jeff (49:45):
If you want to hear it it might hurt some NASCAR feelings
the F1 at Kota, the F1 carscould do two laps and be on the
bumper coming across the finishline.
The first lap for the NASCAR,yeah.

Jason (50:02):
I mean, yeah, I mean I think it'll be cool to go to an
event, right?

Jeff (50:08):
Oh culture, yeah, that's what you're yeah.
Yeah, I mean, I think it'll becool to go to an event, right?
Oh culture, yeah, that's whatyou're yeah.

Jason (50:11):
Yeah, it's part of our American culture.
Of course, we all know that theF1 cars, even the Williams,
will fly by.

Erick (50:25):
All right.

Jason (50:25):
All right, All right.
Enough of the NASCAR.
We love you guys.
We love open all racing on theK-Podcast.
All racing, all of it.

Erick (50:35):
All racing and to support that, they actually had an
event in 2011 where they hadit's called the Mobile One Seat
Swap, where Tony Stewart andLewis Hamilton actually swapped.

Jeff (50:47):
Oh, this is the one they did that yeah.

Erick (50:49):
So Stewart drove his Chevy for four laps around the
circuit, while Hamilton drovethe MP4 23.

Jeff (50:58):
Is that the one where they said all right, lewis, time to
come in, and he was like nope hejust kept going.

Jason (51:05):
I think it was.

Erick (51:07):
Oh, he wasn't coming in.
He was like nope.
Hey look, I'm telling you, man, that'd be dope in a F1 game.
But right now we have to settlefor GT cars, road cars, that
kind of stuff and missing ingames.
The first game to feature thistrack was Gran Turismo.

Jason (51:32):
Oh, look at that, the first GT.
That's what's up.

Erick (51:36):
Yep, so it's been out there for a while and got some
love from GT.
But, yeah, beautiful track, fun, a lot of character and, with
that being said, that is thetrack of the week.

Jason (51:49):
Awesome, eric.
Thank you so much, dude.
Fun track.
Yeah, it's a great track.
It's home in the USA.
It's a great.
Anytime Watkins Glam show up,I'm excited.
Yeah, I'm excited to race it.
I don't know what it is.
It's a track that resonateswell with my style.
Right, I love the bend, thebending turns, the S's and that

(52:15):
chicane that they added could betreacherous if you don't know
the track, because there's justa bunch of cones and there's a
left and then a right.
And if you ain't got it, man, you're just going to go right
through.

Erick (52:27):
Your race is over right man.

Jason (52:29):
So yeah, I meant what I said.
Guys, I really need to branchout a little more with nascar,
because I know nascar has liketheir own drive to survive
version on netflix.
I thought about giving that awatch and speaking of a drive to
survive I was gonna save it forthe roundtable but send it dude
.

Jeff (52:48):
But roundtable, Since we're there, Roundtable.

Jason (52:53):
Jeff has something to say .
I'll give that to Jeff.

Jeff (52:55):
Yeah, I'll start it off.
Yeah, we just finished uppractice for F1 at Bahrain.
Oh bro, practice was awesome.
Practice was awesome, dude.

Jason (53:05):
I'm wearing Mercedes a little prouder today.
Dude, I'm wearing a Mercedes alittle prouder today.

Jeff (53:12):
So no race this week.
But we do have Drive to Survive.
It gets released on the 7th ofMarch and then the following
weekend we got round one inAustralia.
So Drive to Survive thisweekend to get your F1 fill.

Jason (53:23):
Right yeah.

Jeff (53:24):
And drive fast and brake late.
There you go.

Jason (53:25):
Perfectly Perfect, perfectly executed.
I will back and brake late.
There you go.
Perfectly, perfect, perfectlyexecuted.
I will back up Jeff with Driveto Survive.
If you don't like F1, or youfind it boring or you've never
watched it before.
Yeah, you are wrong.
First of all, and two.
Drive to Survive will take anon-racing fan and turn him into

(53:50):
a racing fan.
Rob Markman.

Jeff (53:51):
So it got me into it, rob Markman.
Yeah, rob Markman, I thought F1was silly.

Erick (53:54):
Rob Markman.
I never watched racing at allbefore Drive to Survive.

Jason (53:58):
Rob Markman.
So I created a monster becauseRob.

Jeff (54:01):
Markman yeah, but there's an asterisk for your brother,
rob Markman.

Jason (54:03):
I showed it to my brother and he became a Verstappen fan.

Jeff (54:06):
Yeah, he was a cool guy, and then he told me he was a
Verstappen fan.

Jason (54:09):
Now we ignore his text, we don't pick up the phone.
I'm telling you, man, I'mtelling you, my brother now is a
Verstappen.
I'm like you have to go backand watch the whole season, man,
you can't you know what I mean.

Jeff (54:21):
It's like watching Tom Brady in the last Super Bowl was
like I'm a Tom Brady fan.
No, no, no, no, no.
I'm telling you.

Jason (54:28):
And the best seasons of Drive to Survive are the first
ones.

Jeff (54:32):
Yeah, I agree with it.

Jason (54:33):
Yeah, the first ones are still relevant.
They're still watchable.
It'll get you up to speed inlike a few weeks' time,
depending how hard you want tobinge it.

Erick (54:47):
Binge it, excuse me.

Jeff (54:49):
One weekend.
There's like eight episodesyeah, you can knock them out.
They're like 40 minutes.

Jason (54:52):
Oh, you're going to be hooked.
Yeah, I'm telling you You'regoing to be your back's going to
hurt because you're going to beon your seat the whole time.

Erick (55:00):
Yeah, and I think as somebody who never was racing, I
think it's interesting becauseyou get to see behind the scenes
of the racing as well.
You get to learn more aboutwhat goes into designing the
cars, the pressure of owning ateam, the drama.

Jeff (55:18):
It's like the perfect introduction to F1 for somebody
who has seen no racing, becauseeverything is new to you, even
the pressure of the qualifyingand the practice laps and the
off time and all that stuff, eric, I think it's awesome show
man, you hit the pat, the nailon the head when it came to say,
like the demand for these guysto perform every week, like the

(55:41):
demand for you to be in thepoints as a you know, a new
driver is incredible and youdon't get that just watching the
TV show.
And they really show the teammanagers grill and drivers to
produce, so they're gonna losetheir seat.

Jason (55:55):
Yeah, and you don't just see that, you see pressure from
above, you see the owner chewingout the engineers.
Team owners yeah, or these, yeah, I don't wanna spoil
anything, but there's a lot ofstuff in there.

Erick (56:08):
man that's freaking awesome, you learn a lot.

Jason (56:13):
You learn a lot and it's exciting the way they filmed
that.
It was exciting.
But again, when you're watchingthis show, if you listened, if
you got this far, hope you didcheck out Drive to Survive.
If you haven't, Just give it ashot.
Um yeah, drive to survive iswhat got jeff into sim racing it

(56:33):
is it it?
it sparked the idea of wantingto drive a formula one car.
And how do I do it?
How do I, how can I do that, how can I simulate that?
And I said I'm gonna show you,brother.
And we've come a long and we'vecome a long way.

Jeff (56:48):
We've come a long way since then.
Something like hey, what's yourcredit limit on your credit
card?

Erick (56:54):
Oh no, sounds about right .
Come on, man Love you brother.

Jason (56:59):

.
Pablo Escobar in a chair likethis.

standing there.
