Ryan (00:03):
hello, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a brand
new episode of the colognepodcast.

Myke (00:07):
I'm mike, I'm ryan.
We're two best friends.

Ryan (00:10):
We're going on a fragrance journey, smelling fragrances
and giving you uneducatedopinions today we're going to be
smelling now this is mike'swords, by the way, before we got
on here one of the most popularparffums de Marly fragrances on
planet.

Myke (00:25):
Earth.
Yeah, this is a popular one, percival yeah.

Ryan (00:30):
I've never smelled this.
Have you smelled it?
I have smelled it, I've worn it.
Did I smell it when you wore it?
Maybe I remember all the timesyou wore like Herod and I'm just
like, oh man, that smellsreally fucking good.

Myke (00:41):
Yeah, or sometimes you're like oh, are you wearing Layton?
And I'm like no, it's BossBottled, absolute.

Ryan (00:48):
Real talk, guys.
60 bucks out there on somediscounters.
It's at least a try.

Myke (00:53):
At this point you said it and Steve said it.
I don't smell Layton in it.
I don't.
I can smell a little bit of theLayton vibe.
To me it has more red tobacco.
This isn't even an episode.
We're getting off track.

Ryan (01:10):
Boss.

Myke (01:11):
Bottle Absolute.
We're not sponsored.
I wish we were.
No, this is Percival by ParfumDeMarley.
Yes, sir, and I am Stocka.
I think we've read somethingfrom him before.
I know that fucking name.
Yes, this is a review.
He wrote about it.
It's okay.
He continues.
Oh good, I'm glad it's not ashort one.
Okay, sorry for the boringreview and quotations, but

(01:34):
that's literally the best way Ican describe it.
Feels more like somethingAbercrombie or Montblanc would
put out for four times lessprice, but oh well, oh okay.
So what do you think about that?

Ryan (01:47):
it's par from the marley, but they're saying it smells
very designer well, if you guyswere patreon members and it
sounds like you're not, from theway you're making that face
right now, or you're driving ohmy god, listen to this.
Are you kidding me?
Right now you're not a fuckingpatreon member.
What's wrong with you?
Well, if you were one, you knowthat this last week we just

(02:11):
released an episode for themonly.

Myke (02:13):
We reviewed parfums de marley's altair, yeah, that was
a divisive episode.
You and I were standing onopposing sides.

Ryan (02:22):
It got got heated it did, and we found out that that is a
crazy popular fragrance.

Myke (02:28):
Right, yeah, one of the more popular ones we've reviewed
according to Fragrantico.

Ryan (02:33):
But I will say this kind of leaning into what this
reviewer just said of thisfragrance.
One of us kind of had that sameopinion about that.
So I'm hoping to God this isnot the same thing that we're
about to run into.

Myke (02:48):
We're going to find out, but first, yes, we've got to go
back in time, we've got torelive the moment when we
sprayed Wu Long Cha X by Nishane.

Ryan (02:59):
Hit the music, Todd yeah.

Myke (03:04):
One night stand review.
Well, ryan, after spending thenight in turkish sheets how many
start counts?

Ryan (03:14):
were these bad boys like a million?

Myke (03:16):
oh god, what did you think of of wu long cha x?

Ryan (03:23):
uh, it just did not have the punch that the original had
in the episode.
I was like, does the x meanit's xing out some of the good
parts?

Myke (03:33):
right, yeah, you had a theory yeah, because they did.

Ryan (03:36):
The ani was like that, which is also a patreon episode
that's right, yeah, uh ani x,yeah ani x, and it's like it was
missing something from theoriginal.
That just made it feel, now youthought, more wearable, more
digestible maybe lighter, butmore feminine yeah, I just I
wasn't vibing with on chai x.

Myke (03:56):
It was a skip.
Yeah, it wasn't for me.
I don't think it's a badfragrance.
It smelled very beautiful.
Yeah, I agree with that, but Ido think it's for someone who's
looking for more feminine,leaning fragrances.
You shaking your maraca overthere.

Ryan (04:09):
Sorry, I shouldn't have done that.
Hold on, I put some what isthis shit called mio like an
electrolyte type yeah, it's likea hydrating one and honestly,
it looks like piss after you'vehad like a bunch of vitamins.
Yeah, like neon, toxic yellow, what the fuck?
Sorry, sorry, go ahead.

Myke (04:24):
I fucked your train of thought up, didn't I?
Way to go, dude.

Ryan (04:29):
You said somebody that was looking for something more
feminine, right, yeah, morelighter.

Myke (04:34):
I'm not.
I love Wu Long Cha the way itis Wouldn't change a thing.
I wouldn't either, and so it'sgot to be a skip for me.

Ryan (04:48):
Yeah, I'm agreeing okay let's get on to the scent of the
day ryan percival by parfum demarley.
Uh, this was actually sent in.
We found out because we did anepisode in the uh patreon.
I know it sounds like we'repitching this, but we did and we
were like, who sent us this?
Because we get stuff sent to usall the time from lovely
listeners, lovely patrons, sometimes lovely brands, every
great once in a while.
But we got this from agentleman named David who is a

(05:08):
patron, and man could not bemore excited for this.
He sends a bunch of stuff, bunch of Parfums de Marly.
This is one of them.
Let's do it, I'll let you gofirst.
Okay, I've had coffee, so I maybe running like 100 miles an
hour right now.
I'm so sorry.

(05:31):
Damn, he sprayed the fuckingmicrophone.
Hmm, oh, I don't know if that'sa good arm.
I mean, I think we're bothgonna tell you right now.
Off the rip smells really good, very nice.

Myke (05:40):
Yeah, does smell very designer.

Ryan (05:43):
Very, very designer.
Hmm, very, dare I say, maybe alittle savagy, a little bit of
bubble gummy, a little bit.

Myke (05:56):
I was thinking like a peppery savage.

Ryan (06:00):
Yeah, it's definitely not bad, mm-hmm.

Myke (06:05):
Hmm, what are you smelling , though?
What does it smell like?
Let's not use industry standarddefinitions here I'm with you.

Ryan (06:14):
I am not liking the skin.
Why?
It's not pickle, it's not that.
But what is it about a pickle?
Not just describing the picklesmell, but there's an?
It about a pickle.
What is like not justdescribing the pickle smell, but
there's like an aura about apickle.
It's like this has kind of gotthat, but without that pickle
smell.
It's the hardest thing I candescribe on the tester strip.

(06:34):
Very there's a tang to it yeah, there's a tang to it on the skin
and I'm not really a fan ofthat.
But on the tester strip itsmells very sweet, almost bubble
gummy.
But I definitely have to say Ihate to be this guy and sound
hoity-toity, but it's got thatambroxan kind of vibe with that,
with like a little bit of sweetkind of bubble gum on it.

(06:56):
So it smells really good andit's really kind of safe I let a
couple of young ladies smellthis.

Myke (07:03):
Okay, they lost their mind , didn't they?
They loved it.

Ryan (07:05):
I fucking knew it.

Myke (07:06):
They absolutely loved it.
I knew it.
One said she was smelling it Atfirst.
She goes, this kind of remindsme of my grandpa, and I was like
really.
And then she smelled it and shegoes man, I really like that,
okay.
And then she kept going.
She has some granddaddy issuesthat you're telling me.

(07:27):
No, I don't think so.
Okay, I think, as she smelledit more, it was like maybe that
first initial was so strong, maybe she thought of that, but
then she was like like shesmelled a little bit more and
then she's like, yeah, I reallylike that.

Ryan (07:40):
I think I know where she's going with it.
Sadly, I, I guess Okay, I'm notreally vibing the skin, but
this tester strip could not beany more different and it smells
pretty phenomenal.

Myke (07:54):
It smells because we still haven't talked about it.
I asked you earlier, other thanyou went the pickle route and I
was trying to go with Tang gear.
This smells very soapy.
Smells clean yeah, a littlepowdery, definitely an old
school.
Clean, yeah, almost peppery.

Ryan (08:12):
I'm kind of getting like a little peppery vibe to it yeah,
that's why I was like I couldtell where she's going with that
with her granddad.
Yeah, now don't hear me saymasculine and you're thinking
this like really loud fuckingmusky thing.
It's not Right, but it is kindof that old school like clean
masculine fucking smell.

Myke (08:33):
Old school, but not like vintage smelling.
It does smell modern.

Ryan (08:36):
It does.
It's like I'm actuallyappreciating it on this tester
strip.

Myke (08:41):
It's almost like a more mature version of like fierce or
savage or yeah, legend.
You know, people say the montblanc thing like legend or
something like that, which isbasically just their version of
fierce right man.

Ryan (08:57):
If it smells as good just from a decant, I would say full
bottle would probably go fuckinghard on this so how I've
smelled it, wore it was.

Myke (09:07):
I have from pdm like a travel atomizer of it or like 10
mil or something.
Yeah, went ham on it.
Uh, not really ham.

Ryan (09:15):
You know me three sprays now the people that smelled it
could.
Was it something you had toremind them?
Or like you walked by andthey're like, hey, what are you?

Myke (09:22):
wearing well, specifically this case, there's a couple
gals that's about my age, definitely younger than Ryan.
That's why I say young ladies,that's a prick job.
Yeah, I sprayed a little bit.
I was wearing it, but I sprayeda little bit on my hand, and
then I said what do you think?
And well received.
It makes me think, though,though.

(09:44):
Would you ever just wear ageneric designer fragrance just
to smell good for you know?

Ryan (09:50):
I can answer that easily yes, absolutely, when.
Uh, if I wasn't broke right now, all the time, because I would,
absolutely, I'm out ofaquadesio.

Myke (10:00):
Oh yeah, that's very designer but I feel like it's
still got a little personalityto it.
It's not like this.
You don't think this haspersonality?
Well, this does.
I mean the things that it'strying to accomplish.
You know what I mean.
It's doing it better.

Ryan (10:13):
I agree, I mean, I still think yes, because there's just
some that I'm just not afraid togo.
This smells good, yeah, I mean.
Yeah, I mean lunarosa carbon, Imean amazing, I cannot deny
that, I still think that you'veheard it guys.
We say it every fucking fourepisodes.
It feels like now, but likethat fragrance seriously

(10:34):
competes.
And pants is niche fragrancesto me some, but it is, but it is
a designer, it's very, veryclean.

Myke (10:43):
Yeah, yeah, very.
People say it's like the answerto savage.
For people who don't likesavage, absolutely which it's
not that I don't like savage Ican't wear it because it will
choke me out like two hours in.
Yeah, I love that initial burstof it, which I think beautiful.
That carbon does it better, yeah, yeah, and that's kind of

(11:03):
what I'm loving about.
And then the dry down of carbonis way better than savage to me
.

Ryan (11:09):
Just an opinion, guys you know I wouldn't want it per se,
but out of all the fragranceswe've smelled on this fucking
stupid podcast, yeah, 300 andsomething episodes here, god
knows how much on the page.

Myke (11:23):
Actually, I've calculated it okay 308 episodes here, 44
episodes on the patreon as ofright now.
That's right, extra episodes.
Look, there's a few you guysout there that have literally
gone through this catalog thrice, three times.
How do they do it?
And if you're looking fornearly 50 extra episodes,

(11:44):
they're all up and they're allavailable.
If you're that, friends withbenefit, it's free, just jump on
there.
40, some odd episodes, I don'tknow if it's free.
I mean it's free with yoursubscription.

Ryan (11:58):
Boy, that's some corporate speak of I've ever heard.

Myke (12:01):
It's six bucks a month.
For God's sake, you lose thattype of shit.
You sit down.
Heard it's six bucks a month.
For god's sake, you lose thattype of shit.
You sit down and you lose sixbucks in your couch.
God, you ain't lying in thisday and age.

Ryan (12:11):
I think we just lost some right.
Yeah, it's true.
Yeah, really quickly though.
On that carbon, though Iwouldn't want it, but of all the
fragrances we have smelled I'mshocked that carbon has not had
like a carbon.

Myke (12:24):
Part two, carbon parfum yes, shocked, or like an intense
or something like that.

Ryan (12:30):
Something I mean Don't get me wrong, Don't be listening to
us, Prada and then be like, hey, that's a fucking good one,
Cha-ching.

Myke (12:35):
I'm sure they would have thought of it, because they took
Ocean all the way there.
Why?

Ryan (12:39):
that one.
The first one was I don't know, anyway, fuck.
Anyway, this smells really good.
Yes, it smells very designer,though.

Myke (12:50):
Okay, with a little just done better.

Ryan (12:58):
But here's the question though what's the price compared
to designer?
Really good question, and had Iknown that we're going this
route, I would actually pull up,and I'm just going to do it
really quick.
Anyway, let me pull up sauvageas well.
I feel like you gotta, oh yeah, okay, so if you want a full
juicy now, full juicy bottle forparfums de marley is a 4.2
ounce, that's like somethinglike that.
Yeah, you're looking at about.

(13:19):
You did not have this ready.
Well, it changed on me.
You're looking at about $365.
Woo, ho, ho, ho, ho, woo.
Oh, yeah, that is high.

(13:39):
They also make a 200 ml.
How many ounces is that?
Five, $510.

Myke (13:45):
No, 200 would be more Six, yeah, I was about to say,
because five, I think, is $150.
Okay, so six $510.

Ryan (13:53):
But 125 ml.

Myke (13:55):
Things I never thought I'd learn in chemistry class.
I'm never going to use this.
Staring at these beakers Ouncesto milliliter.

Ryan (14:06):
But Sauvage, you know, that's low hundreds, you know,
yeah, or mid-hundreds, I wouldsay.
And then it's like you can finddiscounters for like 70, 80
bucks.

Myke (14:15):
Can you?
Yeah, I feel like Sauvage istypically not super discounted.
Maybe people reselling, I mean.

Ryan (14:23):
EDT.
I guess you're right.
Two ounces of Dior Sauvage islike $86.
Right, the EDT, that'sdiscounted, yeah, so that's what
, 75 mil.

Myke (14:31):
Yeah, here we are doing these chemistry calculations Now
on the Parfums de Marly one.

Ryan (14:37):
you can find it for $176, but that's also for a 2 point
something ounce 2.5.
Jesus, their discount at 4.2 is$223.
And it's like to me it's tooclose to a designer Too close.

Myke (14:54):
So when you smell it, how close are we talking God?
Designer too close, but whenyou smell it, how close are we
talking god?
I feel like it's frameddifferently than if we had
smelled a designer that smelledlike this.
I think we'd go god.

Ryan (15:06):
This is elevated actually I'm I think it just hit me what
I really think this smells like,as far as like what you could
compare it to.
I know you kind of hate that, but I have to be real on that.
It's like this is if you tookLunarosa Ocean Remember the EDP
had that bubble gummy type thing, it's like that and Dior

(15:28):
Sauvage, but not that reallyharsh part of Sauvage, but the
Ambroxian lower, whatever it'slike.
Those two seriously got it onin an airplane bathroom and then
you got this.
That's where they got it on yeah, you know it's kind of unique
but at the same time it's kindof a shitty situation.
You know it's like not probablyfun.

(15:50):
Both of you have to be skinnyas a fucking rail to even
halfway enjoy yourself.
Yeah, I can't even fit in thebathroom by myself right now?

Myke (15:56):
well, you never.
You wouldn't even be on afucking rail to even halfway
enjoy yourself.
Yeah, I can't even fit in thebathroom by myself right now,
exactly Well you wouldn't evenbe on a plane, Ryan, I mean,
that part's true too.

Ryan (16:05):
Dude, we go when we're coming out covered in blue shit,
you know.

Myke (16:09):
Yeah, for sure.

Ryan (16:17):
It's I mean it's, by the way, the popularity on this.
I need to give you that, sincewe're pricing, trend our price
and popularity 4.23 out of 5.
I can see why.
Over 4 000 votes.
Wow, yeah, so super high, superhigh release in 2018.
Uh, perfumer, you said his nameearlier.
I I'm not even gonna attempt it.
What was his name?

Myke (16:35):
oh, maybe haman marati.
Yeah, to attempt it.
What was his name?
Oh, maybe.

Ryan (16:38):
Haman Maradi.
Yeah, we'll go with that.
I mean it smells good.
What's been his most popularstuff?
I'm always curious.
We rarely talk about theperfumer, but he made fucking
Leighton.
Yeah, he made Altair.
He's a smart man, god.
He's made pretty much everyParfums de Marly.

Myke (16:53):
Yeah, god he's made pretty much every Parfums de Marly.
Yeah, I want to say that ourbuddy, chris Fragmental, got to
meet this guy.
Wow, that's cool.
Do some content with him.
So yeah, I know that this fromthat content Chris said is one
of his more favorite fragrances, kind of top up there God.

Ryan (17:13):
now I'm starting to like the skin.

Myke (17:16):
What the fuck?
You kind of got to be careful, because just spraying right away
a lot of fragrances right awayare just like you can't spray
your skin and immediately put itup to your nose.

Ryan (17:27):
Sorry, I'm going all in.

Myke (17:29):
Damn, we got pool tonight, so we'll see how it wears out.
You should actually do more, because I've got some at the
house.
I'll wear them.
Yeah, I told you I got thetravel atomizer.
Oh yeah, you can spray it fresh.

Ryan (17:45):
I'm not going to lie Like it's pretty good All this
humming and humming whatever thefucking words you say.
Hemming and humming there yougo.
Hemming and humming, yeah it.
Whatever the fucking words yousay, him and Han.
And there you go.
Him and Han, yeah, it's like.
But I'm coming around to it.
I can see why this is popular.

Myke (18:02):
I haven't got the pepperiness of this before when
I wear it.

Ryan (18:07):
I think I may love this.

Myke (18:09):
What the hell, dude, steve , this is your episode bud,
because Steve calls you out onthis shit all the time.
You are a roller coaster withfragrances.
I can't help it.
You start off and you're likefuck this.
By the end you're like it'sprobably a big juicy bottle
worth Wow.
Let me go back to my point, bythe way.

(18:36):
Yeah, go ahead.
I feel like if we bought adesigner or got a decant of a
designer and we were spraying it, I feel like we would look at
this way different, we wouldsmell it and talk about how much
different it is than otherdesigners.
But now that we're comparingwhat's technically niche to
designer, we're trying to pullit closer to designers.

Ryan (18:57):
Yeah, it's all in how you frame things.
While you're saying that, youknow I mean my brain's working
overtime.
It's like we should pick acouple of new episodes coming up
.
We're like here's these fiveepisodes and we're going to just
wrap something around where wecan't see what the name is we
have a listener that sent that.

Myke (19:14):
We need to do that.

Ryan (19:15):
Yeah, we do, don't we?
We absolutely do.
We need to do that.
He sent a bunch of fragrancesthat are not labeled.

Myke (19:21):
Yeah, we don't know what they are.
They have little envelopes, like we're at an awards show, we
do it and then we can look andsee what it was.

Ryan (19:38):
And best picture goes to yeah, personal.
Wow, you know, I actually likeplanned on talking about the
notes and the pros and cons buthonestly, because we've been
kind of going back and forth onit's, I'm sorry this episode's
kind of a little.

Myke (19:45):
No, I think this speaks to how subjective fragrance is.
Again, because it just dependson what angle you're looking at
it from.
I was listening to a podcastand Tony Robbins was on it and
I've heard this study before.
I've heard other people use astudy before, but he talks about
they ran the study wheresomeone will walk up to a random
person and they go hey, do youmind holding this for me for a

(20:07):
second?
And before they can say, yes, they just hand them a coffee and
they bend down to tie theirshoe Right and they take a
coffee and they bend down to tietheir shoe right and they take
the coffee.
And they did a certain amount.
I can't remember the number,but I'll say let's say they did
50 people, 25 this way, 25 thisway.
And then afterwards they wereapproached.
That same person who held thecoffee for them was approached
to read a short thing.

(20:27):
They get 20 bucks and they needto just judge the main
character, right, okay?
And so they judge the maincharacter of the thing and what
had happened was 50% of thepeople had to hold an iced
coffee and 50% of the people hadto hold a hot coffee, and the
people who held the hot coffeesaid the main character was warm

(20:48):
and sincere, and the people whoheld the iced coffee said he
was cold and calloused.
And it was the same story.
Wow, but they were pre-framedby just that physical thing of
touching hot coffee versustouching an iced coffee.

Ryan (21:02):
I mean, it's like what do you call those people that like
whatever they can like, readyour mind or something, but it's
like they probably said certainthings in the sentence to
trigger certain synapses in yourbrain to pick elephant every
time.
You know, know, you thinkthat's what's kind of happening.
David blaine's yeah, that isinteresting, by the way love
tony robbins.
Why is he so beloved?

Myke (21:22):
because, first of all, he has a deep voice he talks like
this, you know like he's for mewhen I listen to him.
I like the whole time.
I'm like dude.

Ryan (21:32):
He's so comforting to listen to.
He's like very charismatic andexcited and well, I just want to
hang out with him.
You think he'd be cool?

Myke (21:40):
yeah, I think so I think you just you can't interact with
that many people without thetruth coming out I think you're
onto something with that.
Yeah, that's true to that if youlike, let's say you really
interact with a million.
Yeah, that's true to that.
If you like, let's say youreally interact with a million
people, it's going to be split50 50.
Yeah, just the way the ballbounces.

(22:02):
It should be, yeah, where it'slike 50 of people are going to
love you, 50 people they'regoing to hate you, and guess
what.
It has nothing to do with you.
It has everything to do withthe person casting the vote
right, because who knows if theyheld a hot coffee before you
met them or they held a fuckingice coffee you know, or they're
holding some toxic greenchemical cold drink mixture.

Ryan (22:22):
I'm doing Exactly.

Myke (22:22):
Is this why you're being so cold and callous?
His drink was colder at thefirst of the episode, so he
hated it.
Now it's warming up to that.
Yeah, I'm loving it.

Ryan (22:32):
Exactly.

Myke (22:36):
Who would wear this this, by the way, I would think it's
like abercrombie fierce hasgraduated high school.
Okay, gone to college, graduated college, but it's
still very young, just graduatedcollege, but got their shit
together by senior year.
You have to because you'regetting ready to enter the
workforce.
That's where he's at.
That's Mr Fierce now, yeah,he's 24 and up.

(23:00):
Okay, got a degree.
Got a degree, that's right, alittle more sophisticated.

Ryan (23:10):
Maybe he's bringing in a little bit more money than your
typical intern.
I think this is like anengineer type person Really.
Yeah, okay, I'll go with that.
I really do.
I feel like this is a reallysmart individual.
Yeah, they're kind of low-key,but they got their shit together
.
They're not flashy, yeah, yeah, but they do got lots of monies
coming in and it's going to keepgetting bigger and bigger
because you know there'ssoftware engineers, something

(23:31):
like that.
You know, right, okay, you knowyou play bit life or something
on your android, you become asoftware engineer and next thing
you know you're a projectengineer manager pulling seven
figures a year something stupid, okay, and all you do is work
remote.
Yeah, I feel like this is thatkind of thing.

Myke (23:46):
I feel like if I worked for a company, I would not want
to work remote, and I'm theopposite yeah you are.
I want to be able to playmarvel rivals all day and have
one of those mouse movers thatjust makes you look busy, I'm
like green screening, likeprevious recordings of me, to
make me look like I'm inmeetings and shit, oh yeah not

(24:07):
me.
I want to like bump elbows withpeople.
I want to work as a team.
I I want to be locked arm inarm, Like really, if I'm on
projects, that's what I want todo.

Ryan (24:17):
You are very much like that and I want to be as far
from it all as possible.
You'd be happy being a shut-inDude I would.
That's why God won't let me wina million dollars.
Be a fucking hermit Dude.

Myke (24:30):
It'd be bad for your health, man, are you going gonna
skip it, sample it or buy it?
What are you gonna do, ryan?
This is close to a buy to mereally, so it's a strong sample
then very, very strong samples.

Ryan (24:47):
If you're listening to me, guys, this is a sample.
Try it with the caveat of justknowing.
Go into it knowing thisdefinitely has a designer vibe
to it.
Yeah, it is doing somethingquite interesting.
I don't know really how todescribe it, maybe it's.
What is this?
Well blended, well balanced.

Myke (25:08):
It's slightly niche elevated, but not crazy enough
yeah, it's doing a lot of things, a lot of things that I feel
like a designer wouldn't do to afragrance.
Yeah, that's why I'm saying, ifwe smell this, as a designer
we'd be like Bravo, oh God, oh,bravo.

Ryan (25:27):
Way to take the swing.
Was that a sarcastic clap,though?

Myke (25:31):
No, I'm being serious, okay, yeah yeah, yeah, I think
we'd go wow, these guys, they'retrying something different
while still keeping it verywearable and non-challenging.

Ryan (25:42):
Yeah, that to the T.
It's non-challenging whatsoever.
There's no challenge to thisVery wearable Young man and up
could wear this Honestly.
We should have said this.
I feel like young man and upcould wear this honestly because
we should have said this.
I feel like young man to oldman could wear this and pull
this off.

Myke (25:58):
Yeah really and truly very safe.
I think the comments about oh,this reminds me of a grandpa.
It's like maybe it's moredistinguished than what you'd
expect out of a designerfragrance, but it doesn't make
it smell old and dingy, or toomature?

Ryan (26:14):
Definitely not, God.
It smells really good.
I can't shake that.
I smell a little bit of thatsweetness that Luna Rosa Ocean
did that we just dog walked thisepisode and said was garbage.
But it was garbage for someother reasons, yeah because it's
like a one-note song.

Myke (26:31):
This is different.
There's a lot going on to it.

Ryan (26:34):
Yeah, I would say this too , where that was really kind of
weak in how it smelled.
I was almost going to say thisis a little bit louder, but not
too much.
It's just enough to be on thecusp.
You know what I mean.
If they would have went alittle bit more, you'd probably
be going.
This is going to be too loudfor me, right?
It smells really good.

(26:54):
Yeah, who'd you say loved this?
Chris?
Chris loves this.
Uh-huh, okay, he's got a goodnose on him.
This smells good.
That's all I got.
Man, I'm perplexed becausethere's simplicity to this.
You know, I was kind of sayingwe were talking about music the
other day.
Actually, uh-huh, and mine'sgot me on this hall and oats

(27:17):
kick right now.
That's right, he goes.
Man, you need to really listento, out of touch, yeah, the
hollow notes.

Myke (27:20):
listen to that fucking, yeah, like the synth at the
beginning of it, because we hadthe other day we were talking
about there was another songthat we listened to and it was
like so punchy, yeah, like man,we, we don't get this anymore,
this type of production, andthis is like late 80s.
This song came out, yeah, soyou played it and what?

Ryan (27:41):
dude.
It's like I was telling michaellike it's so simple.
The note structure, everythingis simple to the layman ears.
You're like very basic, but ifyou really listen, especially
with how things were producedback, then you can really hear a
lot of different instruments.
Yeah, you can hear there's alot of layers and it's actually
really intricate, but it's sointricate that it's purposely

(28:03):
done to make it sound simple.
Does that make sense, right?
yeah, things were added toincrease texture, yeah, and I
feel like that's what this isdoing right here.
It's familiar, it's somethingthat we kind of smell, but at
the same time there's like thislittle something.

Myke (28:18):
There's more punch to it.
I can see that we were justcritiquing.
This guy was playing guitar andhe said you can play it this
way, or you can play it this way, yeah.
And when he added the speciallittle in there, you were like
they're the same things, yeah, but this is way more pleasing,
had way more personality, right?

Ryan (28:40):
yeah, it's just, and it's just the subtlest thing you
would never.
It was actually a brad pay.
I'm not a brad paisley fan, butyou were showing me brad
paisley.

Myke (28:48):
Yes, to get it's a long story short here, but he has a
thing on his guitar called aG-Bender.
It bends the don't laugh middleschoolers a G-string.
It bends the G-string.
I just said don't laugh.
Well, you emphasize it so much, man.
So on the guitar it bends theG-string and when it does that

(29:11):
it adds almost like a steelguitar sound to it.
And the way he incorporates ithe shows you that, oh, you can
actually manually bend thestring with your fingers and it
sounds this way.
But then when he bends it withthe mechanism that's built into
the guitar, it sounds different, even though it's literally the
same notes, sonically the exactsame notes, but the way it gets

(29:31):
there is different.

Ryan (29:32):
And you would be shocked.
Just that little difference, how much more character that has
, right, and it makes it waymore distinguished, right?
Yeah, and that's what I'msaying with this.
It's like part of me wants tobe cynical and go oh my God,
this fucking designer.
Yeah, they're asking way toomuch money, which they are.
I'm going to have to say that.
Right, I'm going to have to saythat.

Myke (29:54):
Right, I'm getting this on a discount.

Ryan (29:57):
Yeah, but it's like I've got that side of me, but the
other side is like but I can'tdeny that this smells really
fucking good yeah.

Myke (30:04):
I think it would be a win.
I'm a very strong sample aswell.
I think it's good.
I've wore it a few times.
I get compliments.
It's just a safe wear.
It's a safe blind reach.
It's an expensive one, yeah, but you know, if you can swing
it, it's uh very nice.

Ryan (30:23):
Me and mike have been uh, toying with this idea right and
michael's like that's a greatidea and especially because it
incorporates his name, he waslike it's an even better.

Myke (30:34):
Yeah, wait, I can have this.
Let me frame it this way wehave listeners occasionally that
will write in, yeah, and theywill just blanket complain about
the fragrance faux pas thathappen at work, yeah.
And so we thought should weconfront these transgressors?

(30:57):
Oh, yeah, and let them knowwhat's going on?
Let the quiet voice of reasonspeak through the podcast.
And so we did have a listenerreach out.
It was a friend of mine and shesaid this Hi, mike and Ryan, I
need your help navigating adelicate situation at work.
One of my co-workers is anawesome guy, but the amount of

(31:19):
cologne he wears could clear aroom faster than a fire drill.
I'd love your help figuring outhow to tell him that his
cologne game is a bit too bold.
I don't want to hurt hisfeelings, but my nose and lungs
would really appreciate agentler aroma.
Can you help me find a way totell him that less is more?
And then she attached his nameand his phone number and so,

(31:44):
look, we could get the copscalled on us.
We could be slapped with, youknow, some sort of restraining
order, but we're going to callthis man, and if you're a patron
, you're going to hear how itall pans out and if you're a
patron and you want to reach outto us and have us communicate

(32:07):
certain difficult fragrance news, we're thinking about you Let
us know.
We're thinking about startingkind of a segment called Mike
Breaks Bad Fragrance News.

Ryan (32:18):
Which you've probably seen , the so-and-so breaks, bad news
, right, we just want to do likea fragrance version of that.

Myke (32:25):
Yeah, because I mean there's some people out there
that they need the truth.
I'm probably one of thosepeople that need the truth.
Yeah, you would definitely be.
I'll be writing into the showwe love you guys.
And until next time, spray itup y'all.
