you can be more confident andempowered to then create an even
bigger life. I'm life and bodycoach Courtney Gray. And each

(00:25):
week, I'm going to be teachingyou how losing and maintaining
your ideal weight can be so mucheasier than it's been in the
past, in my taking care of youand achieving your health goals,
you will live in even moreamazing life than the one you
have lived so far. Let's getstarted. Welcome to the Podcast,
episode 92 weight loss inmidlife and how your thoughts

(00:49):
impact your results. Before wedive into the podcast, I want to
make sure you are signed up formy free workshop happening this
Thursday, October 19. The linkis in the show notes. It's also
on Instagram, if you follow meon Instagram, it is called How
to not eat the candy because weare in October, but it's about

(01:09):
so much more than candy. It'show to not eat whatever it is
that you are eating that youkeep telling yourself, you need
to stop eating it. And if youdid stop eating it, you would be
healthier, lose weight, feelmore in control all of those
things. And I'm not saying nevereat these things. I'm saying
feel in control that you can noteat them even when you want them

(01:31):
even though they're delicious.
So make sure you sign up forthat is going to be this
Thursday. The other thing youcan sign up for is a free
consultation. If you are likethe workshop sounds great. But I
really want to just talk to youabout how you can possibly help
me then the link also for thatis going to be in the show notes
and on Instagram. And I have abunch of different times
available for you to schedule aconsultation. And I want to talk

(01:52):
about what to expect I had fourconsultations last week, it was
a very busy week. And I will Ihad one of my new clients who
did a consult with me. And shetalked about how she was
nervous. And so I wanted to justaddress this because it is so
common. It is so common to benervous or anxious, or a little
bit skeptical, like what am Ido. And still continue to

(02:15):
schedule a consult because youare ready to take your weight
loss and body and helpseriously. So I want to talk for
a moment about what happens on aconsole. Because for many of
you, you've maybe never talkedto a life and body coach about
losing weight. And I want tojust kind of share with you what
it's like. So when you want todo a console together, we talk

(02:36):
about what's going on with youright now we talk about your
body, your weight, yourobstacles, what you have tried,
what has worked, what hasn'tworked. And I will tell you this
conversation, a lot of times youend up telling me things You've
really never talked to anyoneabout it's very personal, it's
very, can be very emotional. Wetalk about things that maybe

(02:57):
you've never even said out loud.
And so expect to be emotional.
It's not a bad thing. But Ithink that sometimes people have
said to me, I've been wanting toschedule consult for for a few
months now. But I just wasnervous and I was worried I'd be
emotional. And so I just wantedto address that and say it's
totally normal. It's, this is abig deal, your body, your
weight, your self concept, it isa big deal. That's why I do this

(03:20):
coaching because it is such abig deal. So we talk about
everything you're going through.
And then I give you clarity asto why you're not in the body
you want what is not working, Igive you clarity, some of these
will be obvious to you. And someother thing. These are things
that you have not really thoughtabout before. And then if I

(03:41):
think I can help you, we talkabout what that would look like
how we could work together toget you the results that you
want to get you in a body thatyou really are enjoying being in
to get you feeling in controlabout food for many of my
clients to get them not thinkingabout food in their bodies so
much. That's a result so many ofmy clients want. So schedule a

(04:03):
consultation if you'd love totalk to me. And I hope you'll
also be there at this awesomeworkshop that's going to be on
Thursday, it's going to be a funone. I'm going to teach you my
three steps to not eating thatthing in the moment. But it's
called How to not eat the candy.
So let's talk about thispodcast. I've never really
talked about weight loss inmidlife and how your thoughts

(04:24):
are impacting your results. Butif you're like me and you're in
midlife, you've probably beenhearing a statement I hear so
often. And I'm using this inquotes because I hear it so
often weight loss is so muchharder in midlife. And I want to
talk about the truth of that.
And I also want to talk aboutwhy that mindset can actually

(04:45):
really derail you and keep youfrom getting the results you
want. So let me just say this, Ihave no medical background
whatsoever. So why am I talkingabout this? Because I want to
talk about that and now What I'mgoing to give you some research
I've done and findings of many, many studies. And then I want to

(05:06):
say, Okay, this is what theresearch is showing us. And now
what and what do we want tochoose to think about it in
order to take ownership andcontrol of our own bodies and
our own health and reallyadvocate for the life and body
we want to live in. And really,in the end, I want you to become
aware of what you think aboutmidlife and your body and how it

(05:28):
is affecting your body. I wantto start with the facts. Here
are the facts that I have found, and you can do your own research
and I guarantee you will findthe same facts because many,
many sources said a variation ofthis same thing, and then you
get to choose what you want todo with them. I'm going to, I'm
going to tell you my thoughtsand what I'm choosing to do with

(05:48):
these facts. So many studiesshow that even if women keep the
same workout routine, that manywomen between the ages of 40 and
50. And then a few studies evensaid 40 to 65 see their weight
increase and have a harder timelosing weight. Many, many many
studies said that these are theresults that they are seeing of

(06:09):
women in midlife. And a fewreasons for this is happening, a
slowing down of the metabolismand hormonal changes due to
menopause. Specifically, I reada few different studies decline
in estrogen and then there'sother decline other as other
hormones, but I'm again becauseI'm not medical, I'm not even
gonna dive into that it doesn'teven matter that I dive into

(06:31):
that. It's just slowing down ofmetabolism and hormonal changes
due to menopause, midlife, allof that. Also, the other reason
this is happening that the womenare seeing their weight increase
and having a harder time losingweight is the amount of lean
muscle we have starts to declineafter 30. And if you have ever

(06:51):
taken a science class, you knowthat muscle burns more calories.
So if people continue to eat thesame amount, amount of calories
and do the same workouts, youcan see how that is going to
either increase weight ordefinitely not allow you to lose
weight like you want to do.
Okay, so what are we going to doabout this? Our bodies are
changing. We need to get curiousand realize that what we are

(07:16):
doing is not working. If youfeel this way, what you are
doing is not working. But weneed to really get honest with
ourselves. Are we being honestwith ourselves? And are we
taking radical ownership of ourbody in midlife? So ask yourself
that question, are you takingradical ownership, there was a
podcast I did a few weeks agoabout radical ownership, but

(07:38):
specifically rattle co ownershipabout the fact that maybe you
are in midlife, possiblyexperiencing menopause in
whatever way that looks for you.
I'm taking a moment to tell youthat I work privately one on one
with women to help them loseweight permanently, and create a
body they love. This is not adiet program. This is a

(08:01):
customized program to teach youhow to eat the way you want to
eat forever. No morerestriction, no more willpower,
no more losing weight only tosabotage and then gain it back
again. The problem is not you,we women are so hard on
ourselves. And we think if wecould just get motivated or more
determined if we could find theright diet plan or cut out

(08:22):
certain foods, we will loseweight and be happy. But the
answer is changing your brainand how you think and feel,
changing your self image and howyou talk to yourself. Learning
how to trust yourself. This ishow you lose weight permanently.
It sounds too good to be true.
But I promise you it's not. Thework I do with my clients is
powerful, exciting and loving.

(08:45):
And it's hard work to but theresult is change forever. The
women I work with are smart andsuccessful in so many areas of
their life, they just haven'tbeen able to figure out their
body. This is where I've comein, head to my website to
schedule a consultation. And wecan talk about all the details
back to the podcast.
And again, the reason one of thereasons why I wanted to do this

(09:08):
podcast is I think that for Ihear so often, weight loss is so
much harder in midlife. And itcomes from a place of of defeat
of like it's a statement thatyou just say and then you're
like almost like I give up likethis is what it is it's out of
my control. And that's why Iwanted to give you those

(09:28):
statistics in that research thatsays this is a fact it can be
harder it is harder studies showthat it is harder. But now the
question is so and now what whatdo you want to intentionally
think about this, and what isyour part in it? What I don't
want to see happen for youbecause I do see this happen
sometimes is that people areusing this broad mid life label

(09:53):
as the reason why they are notin the body that they want to be
in. And so I think I what I wantlike to encourage you to do is,
if you're in midlife and youfeel like yes to all of this, I
want you to get curious and say,Okay, well, let me take a really
honest look at how I'm moving mybody. And let me take a really
honest look about what I'meating. I know for most people,

(10:17):
most people at Every Size, saythat they eat healthy. But what
does that look like? And is yourversion of healthy? What you're
doing working for you? And ifit's not, and now what, what are
we going to do at this point?
You know, one other thing toconsider here is that often like
people are not only caring forkids that are getting older, but

(10:40):
they're also caring for parentsthat now need more support, on
top of working on top of a lotof times for people becoming
more hyper aware of retirement, and as you're getting closer to
retirement and finances, andwhat that is going to look like,
for all of these reasons, it's abusy time. And it can be harder
to make health a priority. So Iwant you to just really take a

(11:05):
hard look at your life andreally be honest with yourself,
what is working? What is therole you are playing? And let's
not give all of our power overto midlife. So what are your
thoughts? When you hear thesestudies? And what they're
telling us about midlife andweight loss? Where do you lean,
there's really, I feel like twodifferent ways you can lean,

(11:27):
there's two categories, you canlean into the Okay, I hear that.
And I think let's go, I'm goingto figure this out. Or you can
lean to this as out of my hands.
And I want you again, to behonest with yourself, where do
you lean? Because the way youlean the thoughts you have about

(11:48):
that research is going to reallydictate the results you create
in your life. Are you the typeof person that things like this
is just how it is in midlife?
This is what I've been doing allalong is no longer working? And
or I don't know what to do, I'meating healthy, I don't know
what else I can possibly do? Isthat going to be you because if

(12:08):
you think those thoughts, if wethink about the model, we think
about how our thoughts createour results. Thinking like this
is just how it is in my mid lifeis probably going to make you
feel resigned, it's going tomake you feel discouraged,
possibly angry. And then you'reprobably not going to start
trying to figure out ways tocrack this code, try to figure

(12:29):
out ways to double down onfiguring it out for you. Since
we're all different. Where ifyou think I'm going to figure
this out, I hear Courtney, Ihear what you're saying, I hear
that research. But I'm going tofigure this out. And from there
that feels like you'recommitted. And from being
committed, you start to actuallyfigure out okay, how can I make

(12:49):
this work? When I hear thisabout midlife, I'm like, let's
go, I'm going to be the one tofigure this out. Here's the way
I look at this. When I hear thestudy saying women are keeping
their same workout and they'reincreasing their weight and
having a hard time losingweight. My thought right away is
the workout needs to change.

(13:10):
When I'm hearing the study sayis the way women did things no
longer work. So to me, I thinkgotta be willing to shake it up.
Let's go. And then when I hearthat metabolism is slowing down,
and due to hormonal changes, there's like a decline in
estrogen or all these things. iMy first thought is get your
hormones checked. I did that. Ithought I that's what I did.

(13:30):
When I started going, what'shappening here what's going on?
I'm noticing some thingshappening. It's like let's
change our hormones. And then ifyou do the research and you
start getting curious, you starthearing so many experts,
doctors, experts, scientiststalking about how our diet
affects our hormones, how ourdiet affects our experience of

(13:50):
menopause. And so then thisleads me to what of course I'm
here to teach you is how tolearn the mindset of how to eat
the way you want to eat, themindset of how to look at what
you're doing and be curious andsay, This isn't working for me.
The studies prove it's notworking for me. So what can I
do? What can I do to change itup? What can I do to get curious

(14:14):
and figure out? Clearly that'snot working? What can I do to
change things up? Now if you'restill with me, there's another
response that I want to talkabout. A third one, we have the
two we have the people that arelike, let's go I'm gonna figure
this out. We have the peoplethat are like, Oh, this is kind
of out of my hands. What I'vebeen doing is not working. But
then there's another likethought and more thought

(14:35):
responses. A lot of times peopletell me I'm doing the work. I'm
eating healthy. I don't knowwhat else to do. And it's a
little bit of a I've done all Ican hear and that really leads
them to being frustrated alittle bit victime sometimes a
little bit confused, but it'smore of a screw this I'm doing
all I can and again make sure ifyou are here you have a hard

(14:59):
look at the facts acts of howyou are eating and how you are
moving your bodies. Make sureyou get your hormones looked at,
how are you sleeping, and yourmindset about all of it. So
here's what I will leave withyou today, clearly and recap.
Our bodies change in midlife, stuff is happening. But we need
to change as our bodies arechanging. And if you really

(15:22):
intentionally decide what youwant to think about the fact
that you're in midlife, and youwant to intentionally think
about what the studies aretelling you, and you want to
think something powerful, thatmakes you feel committed, you
are going to have so much easierof a time figuring this out,
losing weight, maintaining yourweight and living an amazing

(15:45):
life. It's when we slip into thehole, I'm eating healthy, I've
tried all the things, my body isbetraying me the type of mindset
that really keeps us stuck andusually keeps us spinning. So
that's what I want to encourageyou today is really decide what
you want to think about midlifeand I'll tell you what I think
about all this stuff that I'mhearing about midlife and all

(16:06):
the research. I think that weneed to change things up. Our
bodies are changing, oursituations are changing. But
with that change we also areable to start thinking more
intentionally for ourselves andstart changing the what we
believe is possible for us. Allright, mid lifers. That's all I
got for you today. You will beseeing me live in my workshop.

(16:28):
How to not eat the candy thisThursday, happy Tuesday. If you
