love the way they feel. Andlook, I'm going to teach you how
to stop overeating and obsessingabout food and your weight. So
you can be more confident andempowered to then create an even
bigger life. I'm life and bodycoach Courtney Gray. And each
(00:25):
week, I'm going to be teachingyou how losing and maintaining
your ideal weight can be so mucheasier than it's been in the
past, in my taking care of youand achieving your health goals.
You will live in even moreamazing life than the one you
have lived so far. Let's getstarted.
Welcome to the podcast 81worrying, you will gain the
(00:48):
weight back. So welcome. I spenta wonderful six days in
Nashville, Tennessee, I've neverbeen to Nashville before and I
was there on business I coach inanother coach's program. And
there were about 100 I thinkabout 110 people there. Mostly
women, I love the ladies and Ijust had such a great time,
(01:10):
there's about a cohort of us 10coaches that coach for the
program, I got to spend a lot oftime with them. And then I got
to do a combination of a littlebit of coaching and a lot of
learning. So it was absolutelyamazing. And I think you'll
remember my word of the year isadventurous. So when I found out
that I was going to Nashville, and I've never been to
(01:31):
Nashville, I was so excited. ButI'm happy to be back I really
missed, I miss my family. So I'mhappy to be back. And I'm happy
to be here recording thispodcast for you. And I want to
address one of the most commonconcerns I hear from women about
trying to lose weight. Andreally from women trying to lose
weight again, because so many ofyou I know have been like girl,
(01:56):
I have been trying, I havetried, or I have tried and
failed and tried and failed.
That was me. I didn't like givea long term try. It was like
three days, and then five daysand then two days, and it was
just exhausting. So one of themost common concerns I hear from
women is, I've never been ableto keep the weight off, I worry,
I'm not going to be able to doit. They literally just say I
(02:17):
don't know if I can do this. Andthis is a legitimate worry, I
understand it. Maybe thatsurprises you, maybe you are
gonna be like, Don't worry, you've got this No, I want to
say I get it, this is alegitimate worry, I understand
it, I think it's very normal toworry about this, or to assume
you can't lose weightpermanently. And I'm going to
(02:38):
I'm going to speak to why Ithink that is legitimate, you
have a lot of evidence tosupport it, you can think about
all the times in the past youlost weight, and then you gained
the weight back. So maybe youlost a large amount of weight
and then you gained it back ormaybe you just lost a little and
gained back a little andeveryone has their own story.
(02:59):
But you have a lot of evidenceto support. I don't think this
is going to work for you. And Iknow that you've tried really
hard and you've wanted it bad itis not for from a lack of
trying. It's not from a lack ofwanting it. But I want to shed
some light and give you like abreakdown of what most people
have tried to do and why ithasn't worked. I want you to
(03:22):
feel seen, I want you to feelvalidated. And then I'm going to
get you excited about tryingsomething new. For most of us.
There is a belief that in orderto be thin or thinner or lose
weight, we have to give up thefun. We have to give up the joy
the party really enjoying andliving life. For example, a lot
of my clients, a lot of myclients love to eat out at
(03:45):
restaurants. And that's one ofthe things they talk to me on a
console I love to eat out.
That's how we celebrate, we loveto do it. And when they start
working with me, they think theycan't go out and eat and have
fun. If they want to loseweight. They literally like
sometimes they'll say I can'tyou know who you are. And then
they worry about maintainingtheir weight. Because fun at a
(04:07):
restaurant means they get to eatall the things. And so in the
beginning when I suggest thatthey can eat well at a
restaurant eat better thanthey've been eating at a
restaurant, eat in a way thatthey can start to lose weight
and still have fun and stillenjoy life more enjoy the
restaurant even more. They 100%don't agree, which again, make
(04:28):
sense because they've never doneit. So I just talked a few weeks
ago about there was a podcastOh, it was my either or podcast.
It was I think from two weeksago and what I talked about is
the belief that either I canlose weight and be the weight I
want to or I can have fun andenjoy my life. It's like the
(04:50):
either or a lot of women believeit's either or, and I 100% agree
with why most people believethis. So think back to the last
Last time you lost weight, evenif it was five or 10 pounds, and
see if any of this soundsfamiliar. You probably I'm
assuming it's some of this isgoing to be familiar to you
probably you probablydrastically changed your diet,
(05:14):
you did something to the effectof cutting out flour or cutting
out sugar cutting out alcohol,or increasing your workouts
cutting out cheese I'm I'm I'mtrying to remember all the
things that I've done or peoplehave done a cutting out bread,
right? You went all in, but youwent all out on your real life,
you went all out on the way youlive, day to day. So what did
(05:38):
you learn from that experience?
What you learned was, in orderto lose weight, you have to
deprive yourself, and live in acompletely different way of
life, in terms of how you eatand possibly even in terms of
how you work out, because a lotof times I know, what's that 175
hard, which I'm never gonna sayanything bad about any of these
programs. But 75 heart is one ofthose things where you work out
(06:00):
twice a day, well, not too manypeople for the rest of their
life work out twice a day. Soyou're learning in that in those
75 days to get results based onworking twice a day. Okay, so
we're learning how to live acompletely different life in
order to get a certain result.
You didn't learn how to balance, you didn't learn how to have
(06:24):
some of your favorite foods inmoderation. You didn't learn how
to eat a little bit differentlya little bit better. You didn't
learn how to trust yourself tomake a good decision. You didn't
learn how to trust your body andto like dive in and say, am I
hungry? Am I you know, howhungry? Am I? What's going on in
my body? How is this going tofeel in my body? You didn't
learn how to trust your body.
You didn't learn how to becurious if some of what you were
(06:47):
doing was working and maybepivot, right? Okay, this
obviously isn't working, how canI love myself and be curious and
pivot, you didn't learn how toenjoy yourself and eat in a way
that sustainable at the sametime you ate in a way that was
pretty unrealistic to maintain.
(07:08):
And then when you stopped thediet or the eating plan, you
went back to the way you ate us.
A lot of times we do it slowly, right? We tell ourselves we're
going to you know not do this.
But then we slowly start to goback to the way we ate and lived
before. And then you gained theweight back? Of course, right?
It really does make sense whenwe lay it out like this, it does
(07:31):
make sense. I remember the firsttime I kind of said what is
really going on, and I wrotethis down. And then I was like,
Well, of course I gained theweight back. It doesn't make
sense that I would keep theweight off. So when women say to
me, I'm worried I will gain theweight back. Yes, I can see why
you would be worried. You don'twant to do what you have done
(07:51):
because you know it doesn'twork. But let's be clear. You've
showed up for your life in twodifferent ways in the past, and
these ways are not working. Sothe diets don't work because the
results are temporary. I justkind of went through what a diet
looks like. And those resultsare temporary doesn't work,
right. That's one way you'veshowed up in your life. I'm
(08:11):
taking a moment to tell you thatI work privately one on one with
women to help them lose weightpermanently in create a body
they love. This is not a dietprogram. This is a customized
program to teach you how to eatthe way you want to eat forever.
No more restriction, no morewillpower, no more losing weight
only to sabotage and then gainit back again. The problem is
(08:34):
not you, we women are so hard onourselves. And we think if we
could just get motivated or moredetermined if we could find the
right diet plan or cut outcertain foods, we will lose
weight and be happy. But theanswer is changing your brain
and how you think and feel.
Changing your self image and howyou talk to yourself. Learning
how to trust yourself. This ishow you lose weight permanently.
(08:57):
It sounds too good to be true.
But I promise you it's not. Thework I do with my clients is
powerful, exciting and loving.
And it's hard work to but theresult is change forever. The
women I work with are smart andsuccessful in so many areas of
their life, they just haven'tbeen able to figure out their
body. This is where I've comein, head to my website to
(09:18):
schedule a consultation and wecan talk about all the details
back to the podcast.
And the other way you've showedup as possibly kind of in a
sense of giving up. It's whenyou kind of tell yourself, I'm
just going to love myself andnot worry about my body and
weight. And I'm just going tonot worry about this. I'm just
(09:38):
going to live my life. And thisdoesn't work. Because it keeps
coming back to you the desire towant to feel and look and be in
a different body keeps comingback to you. You keep thinking
about wanting to fit in yourclothes better you keep thinking
about wanting to be healthier.
You keep worrying about becomingIn pre diabetic you keep
(10:00):
worrying about the next time yougo to the doctor and what the
test results are going to be,you keep thinking about all of
this, you have a true desire formore. And so that way of living
doesn't work either this wholeidea of, I'm just going to I'm
not going to worry about it justdoesn't work either. Have you
ever said to yourself, I'm justgoing to accept and love my
(10:21):
body, and I'm not going to worryabout this anymore. I used to
say this to myself, right? Whenthe waiter brought the menus
around, I go to a restaurant,I'm like, I'm gonna eat healthy,
we're doing good here, I'm gonnalose a little bit weight, I will
be so much happier when I loseseven pounds, if I could just
lose seven pounds, I'll behappier or 10 pounds, or
whatever it is, have you eversaid that to yourself, and for
(10:42):
me, and then the waiter wouldbring the menus around, and I
would completely change into adifferent person, that other
primitive brain would say, Youknow what, I'm just going to
enjoy myself, I'm fine. Life istoo short, everyone else is
going to eat all the things I'mgoing to do better on Monday. So
these two different ways ofshowing up for your life are not
(11:05):
working. Because you're stillhere. You're listening to this
podcast, and you want more foryourself. This is why I'm loving
helping women on weight loss. Itis so important. We wish it
wasn't we wish it wasn't. But itis it keeps coming back to us.
So it is a true desire. We wantto be healthier, we want to
(11:25):
enjoy our bodies, we want tofeel like we look good. We want
to feel good, and we want to behealthy, it is important to us.
But I want to tell you doingthis work, figuring this out for
yourself solving this weightloss and permanence for yourself
is so important. And it's somuch more important than just
(11:46):
about weight loss. It's so muchmore than just being thinner. I
don't think I realized thatuntil I figured out how to lose
weight and keep it off and stillenjoy myself. Until I learned
how to think about food. Ididn't realize how important it
was. I don't think I realizedhow it would affect my whole
(12:07):
life. And I'll tell you a storythat I was just in Nashville.
And I was talking to one of theother coaches I don't know her
very well. But we startedtalking and she goes, Hey, I see
that you're doing weight lossnow. And I said, Yeah, I'm
loving it. She said, tell mewhy. And it was interesting,
because I actually started kindof convincing her I was telling
her, Yes, I'm helping women loseweight. But it's so much more
(12:30):
than weight loss, it's so muchmore important than some people
might think it is at the surfacelevel. And as I was talking to
her, she took out her phone andshe started looking for
something because she was thisthin, fit, beautiful woman. And
she all of a sudden she held upher phone and she showed me a
picture where she wassignificantly heavier. And in I
(12:51):
almost got a little bitemotional because I thought oh
my god, here I am trying toconvince her that this work is
so important. It's more thanjust the pounds on a scale. It's
just so much more important. Andshe looked at me, she goes, I
know it is so much moreimportant. And I looked at her
and I just I almost kind of tooka deep breath and I go right and
(13:12):
she goes Yes. And I said, beingin a body and she was just like
shaking her head like yes, it'sso much more important than just
about losing weight. It's aboutyou being able to trust
yourself, it's about youcommitting to what you truly
desire. It's about you takingyour one life and living it to
your best ability. But I thinkmore than anything else, I
(13:37):
already said this, and I'll sayit again, it's what you want.
And I think that's why it keepscoming back to you. It's doing
something for you because youwant it for you. So the two ways
you've been showing up in yourlife have not worked, the diets
don't work and trying toconvince yourself that it
doesn't matter doesn't work.
What does work is learning howto eat better forever. Okay, I
(14:02):
just came up with that. And it'ssimple. I'm gonna actually turn
that into an Instagram post.
Yes. What does work is learninghow to eat better forever.
Learning how to do what you knowyou should do. And I don't
usually love the word should.
But so many of my clients haveused this word. So many of my
clients have said, I know whatto eat, I just have not been
(14:25):
able to get myself to do it. Iknow or they'll say I know what
I should do, I just him notdoing it. So you need to learn
how to do it. And it's verysimple. You need to learn how to
make a good choice when you'reat a restaurant and have a good
time. You need to learn how tohave one glass of wine instead
(14:45):
of three if that's what you wantto do, and still have a good
time. And you can replace thatwine with Margarita or
breadbasket whatever. You needto learn how to work out at
three o'clock in the afternoonwhen you said you would it's
almost threeLike, that's why I'm saying that
one, you need to learn how topass on the garlic bread even
though it smells amazing. Or youneed to learn how to only have
(15:06):
one piece. You need to learn howto follow through with your true
desires. But you need to learnhow to do these things, not just
for a month, you need to learnhow to do these things
permanently. I want you toimagine if you could do these
things. Can you imagine howafter even a few weeks how your
life would change? Besides theweight loss? And yes, you would
(15:30):
lose weight. That's obvious, andit's important. But what else
would change for you? Can youimagine having the skill to
trust yourself in the moment?
Can you imagine how that wouldfeel? And I remember when I
figured all of this out, Iremember feeling so powerful.
(15:50):
And I remember having thethought if I can do this, I can
do anything. And the coolestpart about this is I've had
clients come back to me and say,I feel like I can do anything.
And I'm like, oh my god, italmost makes me emotional.
Because like, yes, that is how Ifelt, if I could do this, I can
do anything. I have to do awhole podcast, I do a whole
(16:10):
podcast on the effects of thiswork on the rest of your life.
Because this skill istransferable to every area.
That's why you feel thatpowerful. If I can do this, I
can do anything type of concept.
So I hear you when you sayyou're worried you'll gain the
weight back. Because the wayyou've done things in the past
has not worked. And it's okaythat it hasn't I know it sucks,
(16:30):
but it's okay that it hasn't.
But it's time to try somethingdifferent. It's time to stop
looking back at what hasn'tworked, right, we now see why it
didn't. But let's look forwardto create new results in our
lives. My one on one program isthe solution for this desire to
(16:52):
create something differentmindset and strategy coaching is
the core of my program. And it'swhat makes weight loss
permanent. It's what diets aremissing. It's what you have
tried in the past is missing. Iwas so tired of the back and
forth between dieting and thentrying to convince myself I
(17:12):
didn't care. And then of courseshaming and beating myself up
for the back and forth. And fornot being able to figure it out.
Because I feel like I'm smart.
Why am I I'm smart, I'meducated, I'm intelligent. Why
am I not figuring this out? ThatI'm just so grateful I found
coaching and was able toovercome this part of my life.
I'm grateful I was able to learnall these skills, so I can now
(17:32):
teach them to you. So my programworks because it changes the way
you think it changes you. Andwhen you change you, you show up
differently for your lifepermanently. So I hope this
makes you feel seen, I hope itmakes your worries about gaining
the weight back make more sense, especially if you haven't known
(17:53):
there was another way. And I'lltell you that when clients sign
up with me and they startworking with me, they carry this
worry for a while. SometimesI've even had a client carried
up to five months, I'm justworried I'm gonna gain it back
and I go, I know you are, I knowyou're worried. But you will get
to a point where you feelconfident that you will not gain
it back. And when they have thatmoment where they say to me, You
(18:15):
know what, I'm a new person inthis area of my life. I'm not
going to gain the weight back Ithink totally differently about
all of it. I feel so much incontrol about my food and about
my workouts and about the way Ilive my life when they get to
that moment. It is an amazingday. So I hope you reach out and
(18:37):
you book a consultation with meif you are loving the podcast,
or reach out to ask me aquestion. I spend most of my
time on LinkedIn and Instagram.
