Temetria (00:00):
You're listening to the Curate Your Life podcast
with Temetria episode 104.
Momentum trumps motivation.
Hi, I'm Temetria a single womanin midlife.
But not quite ready for theMoomoo life.
I'm focused on curating a lifethat I love.
A life that is bold and vibrantand full of purpose.

(00:23):
And I'm passionate about helpingother women do the same.
So join me.
If you're ready to create curatea big, bold, beautiful life that
you love.
Have you ever dropped the ballon something that you were
working on or something that youwanted to do, something that you
were working towards?
It happens.

(00:43):
It happens to all of us.
It happened to be, it happenedto me and my coaching business.
I took my foot off the gas.
I was showing up for my currentclients, but I was not doing the
work that I needed to do tomarket my business to get new
clients into the pipeline.
I was doing a lot of otherthings, but not that.

(01:04):
And I wanna talk to you todayabout how to refocus and to get
things done, get back to doingthe things that you want and
need to do or want to do,really.
and next week I'll tell youabout a plan that I have for the
rest of the year.
That I think will help you getthings done, and I wanna invite

(01:25):
you to join me on that plan, butI'll tell you about that next
week.
But today I wanna talk about howto get.
You're focused back how torefocus and really get things
done.
So like I said, I had not beenfocusing really on my coaching
business other than the currentclients that I had.
I was not focused on doing thework that I needed to get the

(01:48):
new clients.
I knew that I needed to, that Iwanted to, but I was not doing
the work.
I would think about it, but Iwas not doing anything.
and you might think, well, youweren't motivated, but I was.
I was motivated.
I wanted to do it, And that'swhat motivated means.
It means having a strong desireor reason to do something.

(02:13):
And I had that.
I wanted to do it.
I wanted to, but I wasn't doinganything about it.
I wasn't taking any action.
And action is the key.
You have to do something.
You have to do something.
Hell even be witch.
Had to wiggle her nose and I.
Um, Jeanie had to nod her head,so you, there needs to be a

(02:37):
mental and physical energy tomake something happen, to get
what you want.
Motivation has the emotionalenergy behind it, the wanting,
the desire, but you have to putin the work.
You have to be able to translatethat desire into action.

(02:58):
so in my case, I decided one dayto just sit down and do a post,
just one post.
That's all I was gonna do.
Well, that led to an idea for anemail, and I decided to do an
email, and I began to pick upmomentum.
Those actions didn't motivateme.
I was already motivated.
I had the motivation, but thatfirst action that I decided to

(03:23):
take gave me momentum to keepgoing.
and that momentum was fueled bythree things, really.
That desire that was there, thathad been there.
The action and the dopamine hitthe reward of saying a good job.
And I didn't actually say goodjob at the time, but sometimes I

(03:44):
do.
but I had that feeling of, ohgood, that's done.
You can check that off.
and then I thought, well, maybeI'll send an email real quick.
and that momentum continue tobuild to snowball and ideas
popped in my head.
One that I'll be sharing withyou next week, and I kept going
and every time I got somethingcompleted, I got something done.

(04:04):
I got that little dopamine hitand I wanted to do the next
thing.
And I bet you've experiencedthis too.
Have you ever.
Been on a roll when you weredoing something at work or
completing a project or cleaningthe house, and you're like, oh,
I'm on a roll.
I'm gonna keep going.
That's that feeling, that's thatmomentum that I'm talking about.

(04:27):
So that's where I am now, and itstarted with me deciding, being
determined to do one thing, notto get back on the bandwagon,
not to get my stuff together.
Not to make 180 degree shift, but just to do one thing and the

(04:48):
momentum built from there.
So are you ready to do onething?
Are you ready to get yourmomentum going?
It doesn't have to be huge.
It doesn't have to get you tothe finish line.
It just has to get you started.
So think about something thatyou've been wanting to do or
accomplish or try or somethingthat you need to finish.

(05:11):
And I want you to think aboutthe tasks that are involved, the
steps that it's gonna take toget you there.
And ask yourself these questionsto help get you moving.
First question, what is the, what is the next thing I need to
do?

(05:31):
The next logical step, the thingthat has to be done before
moving on to anything else.
And then do that thing.
If it feels overwhelming, figureout why it's overwhelming.
Do you need help with it?
Ask.
Ask for help.
Is it something that you don'treally wanna do but you feel

(05:53):
like you have to do it?
Get honest with yourself.
Why do you wanna do it?
Why do you not want to do it?
If there is any people pleasingin there, or if there are any
shoulds in there, question them.
Ask yourself why you're thinkingand feeling that way, and maybe
you'll find that it's somethingthat you want to let go of

(06:14):
completely, and then you canmove on to something else that's
more important.
if there's something that feelsbig and daunting or like, it
will take too much time.
Figure out how to break it downinto manageable chunks.
Write out a plan, do the prepwork.
Start a timer for a specificamount of time, and don't let

(06:37):
yourself get distracted byanything else.
If there's not a logical nextstep for what you're looking to
achieve, ask yourself thesequestions.
What is the low hanging fruit?
What would be the easiest, quickest thing to cross off the
list and get that dopamine hitOr what is the thing that I'm
dreading that will be aroadblock down the way?

(07:00):
Get that out of the way and getthat big dopamine hit.
Ask yourself, when am I going todo it?
If it's now, then get after it,do it.
And don't let yourself getdistracted by anything else
until you're done.
If it's soon, specify when.
Put it on the calendar and makeit non-negotiable.

(07:24):
And when the time comes, makesure there are no distractions
and work until you're finishedwith it.
And finally, ask yourself.
how will I feel when it's doneor when it's over?
And really try and feel theemotion that you'll feel when
it's all said and done.
And plan the reward or somethingto celebrate that win when it

(07:47):
happens.
Pat yourself on the back.
Get that dopamine hit.
You don't need motivation.
You have it.
You have the reason you want todo something.
You have the desire.
You have to decide to turn thatinto action, and you only need
to focus on the next action, theone thing that you're going to

(08:12):
do.
And when that is done and you'vecelebrated yourself, then you
can turn your focus to the nextthing.
So that's what I have for youtoday, but I want you to come
back next week because like Isaid, I have a challenge for you
that I think will nudge you intoaction.
In the meantime, if you have anyquestions or if you want to talk

(08:34):
about this, come over toInstagram.
I'm at Coach Temetria onInstagram, and let's talk about
it.
Until next time.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
