Temetria (00:01):
You are listening to the Curate Your Life podcast
with Temetria episode 111.
Hi, I'm Temetria a single womanin midlife.
But not quite ready for theMoomoo life.
I'm focused on curating a lifethat I love.
A life that is bold and vibrantand full of purpose.

(00:23):
And I'm passionate about helpingother women do the same.
So join me.
If you're ready to create curatea big, bold, beautiful life that
you love.
So today we are talking aboutthe Curate Your Life process,
which is the three step processthat I formulated to help you

(00:46):
create a life that you love, tohelp you transform your life.
This is the process that I useto create to guide how I live my
life, and it's the process thatI use with my clients when I'm
coaching them one-on-one.
It's a simple process on paper, but when you get into living it,

(01:07):
it becomes a little bit morecomplicated.
And we'll talk about why as wego through the steps of the
process.
So I am breaking this deep diveinto the curate your life.
Process down into three parts,um, into a three part series of
the podcast so we can reallyexplore each step of the

(01:31):
process.
I named it the curate Your Lifeprocess because when you are
changing your life ortransforming your life, it is
very rare that you are flippinga switch and all of a sudden
being something different orchanging.
Overnight or having a differentlife at the snap of a finger.

(01:56):
It's about transforming andevolving.
It's a process.
And you probably don't need orwant to burn it all down to
rebuild it.
That is where the curating comesin.
So the definition of curate isto take charge of, or organize,
to pull together or sift throughfor presentation to apply

(02:20):
selectivity and taste to soagain, you are not going to burn
it all down and start over.
You're taking charge of yourlife, organizing it in a way
that makes sense for you.
You are sifting through yourlife and deciding.

(02:41):
What stays and what goes, you'rebeing selective and honoring
your taste.
So think of you curating yourlife like a museum would curate
an exhibit or like a five starhotel delivers a curated
experience.

(03:03):
So the steps of the curate yourlife process are, one, get clear
on your vision.
Two, subtract or eliminate orstop doing what does not fit
that vision.
And three, add or bring in or dowhat creates or enhances that

(03:23):
vision.
That's it.
That's all there is to it.
Simple, right?
As my dad would say, yes and no.
And I always kind of rolled myeyes when he said that, but it
really is the right answer a lotof times in life.
Yes and no.
So today we are going to focuson and talk about the vision.

(03:45):
Step one, creating the vision.
This is everything in the curateyour life process.
You have to be crystal clear onwhat your vision is for your
life, what you want out of yourlife, and why you want it, the
why, why it's important to you.

(04:07):
This step is crucial because inany journey, even if it's just a
trip to the grocery store, youneed to know where you're going
and why you're going.
Have you ever gone to thegrocery store without a list and
ended up at home with everythingexcept what you actually needed?
That one thing that you poppedinto the store to get, because

(04:28):
when you walked into the store, there was a display of the
latest protein bar that yourfavorite actress.
Used to get in the best shape ofher life and there's a BOGO
offer for it, or there's a chefat the center of the store with
a microphone doing a demo andhanding out samples, and you get
in your car with a bag full ofstuff that the marketing people

(04:50):
wanted you to get, but not theone thing that you went in there
to get.
So it's kind of the same withyour life, knowing where you're
going and why helps to keep youfocused on what you want for
your life.
You want to write the GreatAmerican novel, but your
grandmother insisted that whenyou were a little girl, all you

(05:13):
talked about was being a lawyer.
So why would you leave thatstability of a law firm for
foolishness years after yourgrandmother has gone on the
glory, you're sitting in thatoffice and you've made partner,
but you're burnout and you'remiserable.
That is why when I am workingwith clients, when we.

(05:34):
Are working on this step.
I really make sure that it'swhat they want and it's their
why behind it.
You need to know where you'regoing in your life and what you
want in your life if you're evergonna get there in habit.
And you may say, well, I knowwhat I want, but ask yourself,

(05:55):
is it clear?
Is it specific and very clear.
So much so that if somebodywalked up to you and said, I
want to give you what you wantin your life, or I wanna help
you achieve it, tell me rightnow what is it?
Could you articulate thatclearly with minute details so
they know exactly.

(06:17):
What you want and what they'regranting you or giving you.
Because if it's something like,I wanna be happy, or I want a
new car, or I want money and,and I wanna be independently
wealthy, or I wanna meet thelove of my life.
All of those are nice things, but how is that person gonna
know exactly what you want?

(06:38):
What is happy for you?
What does that mean for you?
What has to be in place for youto be happy?
Who are you with?
Where are you?
What do most of your daysconsist of is happy you get a
free pass to the latest.
Feel good blockbuster and freepopcorn.

(06:58):
Maybe that'll make you happy fora bit, but what if happy for you
is being by the ocean where youcan write and watch the sun rise
and sunset every day.
Or a cozy place where you canmake great meals and entertain
friends.
Or what if happy for you is ashot at being a race car driver?

(07:21):
Think about it.
Could you tell somebody in greatdetail what would make you
happy?
If it's the money, how muchmoney do you need to be
independently wealthy?
Is it enough to sit at home andhave all the bills paid?
That might be the dream.
Or is it enough to travel theworld, or is it enough that you
can make significant donationsto causes that are important to

(07:46):
you, that you're passionateabout?
Or is it all of those.
But there needs to be specificdetails behind it.
There needs, in that case, itwould be a number.
So it's not just important toknow what you want in case you
come across some kind,benefactor.

(08:07):
It's essential to know what youwant and why.
So you have purpose to yourlife.
You have a path that you'retraveling on.
So you have to build the vision, you have to create the vision,
and there are three importantthings about this step that I
want you to keep in mind.

(08:27):
One is to allow yourself to goall the way.
Dream the big dream.
Why not anything is possible?
And if you're going to beworking on creating a life,
working on living your life, whynot work towards your dream?
So when you're doing the work, when you're in it, you're

(08:50):
working towards something that'sfantastic, not something that's
just mediocre.
And the second thing that I wantyou to keep in mind is this is
your dream, not an attempt tomake somebody else happy or to
live a life that they wouldapprove of.
If you are true to yourself andliving a life that genuinely

(09:12):
lights you up and fulfills yourpurpose, you will be a powerful,
positive force in this world, and that will be a blessing to
others.
You'll be living into yourpurpose, and that's not only
life changing for you, but itreally is world changing because
I promise you that those pentup, ticked off people that you

(09:37):
come across.
You know them.
They're perpetually complainingand bitter.
I promise you.
They are not living theirpurpose.
They are not in control of theirlives, and it's someone else's
fault, and they have no idea howdifferent their life could be if
they took control of their livesand started living a life that
they wanted instead of trying tocontrol And please everyone

(10:00):
else.
'cause you can't make otherpeople happy and that is not
your job.
Now I'm gonna leave the rest ofthat rant for another podcast,
but just know this needs to beyour vision, your purpose.
And then the third importantthing to keep in mind for this
step is to know why.

(10:24):
You want this life to know whythis is your vision for your
dream life, what it means toyou, why it's important to you,
what it would mean to have thatlife like that, and what it
would mean if you don't havethat life.
You really have to understandthe why behind the vision.

(10:44):
Okay, so let's talk about how tocreate this all important
vision.
If you have been with me for awhile, I bet you can probably
guess.
I want you to put pen to paper.
I want you to write out yourvision, what you want for your
life in detail.

(11:06):
Write about what your days looklike, your work days, your
weekend days, your vacationdays.
How do you start your day?
What do you wear?
Who you interact with and how?
What you eat, how you spend yourwork time and your leisure time.
How you end your day, where youlive, and detail how that space

(11:29):
looks and feels, what yourrelationships are with the key
people in your life.
And I actually have a list ofquestions for this exercise.
If you come over to Instagramand DM me the comment, curate
Your Life, I'll send you thislist of questions.
So I am@coachtemetria over onthe Gram, so come over there,

(11:55):
comment, curate your life in adirect message, and I'll send
you this list of questions.
And they're just really to getthe.
Juices flowing to get yourthoughts flowing, to help you
really create that vision.
So anyway, you wanna take anhour or so and write out your
vision and allow yourself todream on paper.

(12:18):
And I want you to dream.
Really dream.
We encourage little kids todream about their future.
Why do we stop dreaming?
Now that you are at an age and aplace in your life where you
have the wisdom, you have theexperience, and you can actually
make those dreams come true.
Why do we stop dreaming?

(12:39):
This is the time to dream.
This is a time to really getclear on your vision so you know
what you're doing with yourlife.
You know how you're living yourdays and why your why's are
important.
They are the factors that willget you off the couch when it
feels a little hard.

(13:00):
They are the reasons you willkeep going.
They're the reasons that asetback is not a give up.
It's a gather yourself and tryagain.
Your why is the reason thatfailure is a lesson and not a
stopping point?
If your why is I wanna be ableto take care of myself in my old

(13:23):
age, or I want the joy of takingmy mom on a trip of a lifetime,
then when failure shows up, it'snot okay.
Well, I'm just gonna give up.
No, it's, let me figure outanother way.
Let me try another way to dothis.
That didn't work.
What else can I try?

(13:43):
And you want to list all of thereasons why you want the life
that you envision.
Because on any given day one,why may resonate with you more
than another one.
Because if your mom just gotback from a great trip, when the
going gets rough, you might belike, well, she's okay.
She just had a really nice trip.

(14:04):
But you still have to.
Take care of yourself in an oldage.
So that may be the thing thatday that gets you going.
So that's why you need multiplewhy's, and you want to list as
many as you can think of.

(14:24):
And they have to be your whys, your reasons they have to
resonate with you, just likeyour vision has to be your
vision and all of your why's areequally as important.
Wanting to be hot in a pair ofjeans is just as important as

(14:44):
wanting good metabolic numbers.
They're all important.
So that's step one of the curateyour life process.
Write out your vision in detail, like you're telling somebody a
great story because it is agreat story.
It's the story of your life, andby God, if you're telling it,

(15:04):
you better be telling a greatstory about your life.
So one last thing.
Maybe you have the vision.
Maybe a long time ago youdecided that this is what I want
for my life or in my life, andyou've been working towards
that.
That's great.
I applaud you for that becausethat's a lot of work that most

(15:27):
people don't do.
They're just going through themotions.
But I want to invite you tocheck in.
Take this as an opportunity torevisit and see if it's still
what you want.
Because sometimes your visionwill change and sometimes we get
so far down the road, they'relike, well, I've come this far.

(15:47):
I have to keep going.
I've put in this work.
But you don't have to keepgoing.
You don't have to keep workingon something if the end result
is not what you want anymore, ifit's truly not what you want,
not just giving up because it'stough.
And how will you know?
How will you know if it's trulynot what you want anymore when

(16:09):
you let it go?
If it's truly not what you want, when you let it go, you don't
think about it anymore.
But if it's something thatyou're just giving up because
it's tough, you will still getthose little nagging thoughts
about I should have or I wish Iwould have.
That's how you'll know thedifference.

(16:31):
It's a gut check for me, it isalways a gut check.
Trust your instincts, and yeah, just know that what you want in
your life now may be totallydifferent from what you wanted
in your twenties, thirties andforties.
Or it may be exactly the same.
Most likely it's shifted to somedegree.

(16:53):
So if the vision has changed, know that it's okay and you can
shift your path and work towardsthat new vision.
That's why it's called aprocess.
That's why it's curating.
It's.
Pulling in, it's sifting, it'ssorting, it's organizing your
life to fit your vision.

(17:14):
And that vision sometimeschanges.
Sometimes a museum will have topull out a piece of a collection
because it was something thatfit the collection and it was a
nice to have.
But now they have theopportunity to bring in the
ultimate piece for thatcollection.
So they're gonna get rid of thatnice to have and bring in that

(17:38):
ultimate piece.
So that could be the shift whenthe vision, this was nice, but
now this is even better becauseyour capacity to dream.
Grows as you grow and as youevolve.
What was a dream 20 years ago?
Now you're there.
So what's the next dream?

(17:59):
What's the next thing?
And not to say you don'tappreciate where you are, but
that doesn't mean that you can'tbut change, evolve, and grow
into the next version of youinto the next dream.
Okay, so in the next twoepisodes, we will discuss how to
begin creating that vision.

(18:21):
Or maybe it's for you, how toshift and now take the new path
to the next vision.
So you've done the work, thevision is in place.
Now, what's next?
What are the steps to actuallyget you there?
That's what we are going to becovering in parts two and three
of this series, this deep diveinto the curate your life

(18:42):
process.
So remember, if you want thequestions to walk you through
the exercise for the vision, come over to Instagram.
DM me the comment, curate yourlife, and I'll send you those
questions.
Until next time.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
