Speaker 1 (00:19):
Is anybody there?
Little bit of an interestingepisode, right, because this one
was taken, was recordedactually, uh, during the arizona
fall league all-star game.
Okay, this was a conversationwith between me and paul.
We walked around the concourse,we, we saw a bunch of things.
We saw kids running, kidsscreaming.
You're going to enjoy it.
So bear with me on this one.
(00:40):
This one's a little bitdifferent, um, the reason why
I'm talking to you now isbecause I wanted to just preface
.
There's going to be someconversations in there between
the people that are workingthere.
Where I was trying to buy a hat, paul bought a T-shirt there.
Listen, it's a lot of fun.
I just wanted to make sure thatyou guys were aware of what
kind of conversation this wasgoing to be.
(01:01):
It was a lot of fun.
I hope you guys enjoy it.
This was going to be.
It was a lot of fun.
I hope you guys enjoy it.
Um, now, later on this week, Iam going to release a much
shorter um episode.
Uh, and this one was withanother person, um, which might
you know.
You guys might know.
I'm not going to tell you whoit is because I want you guys to
listen to it um, but it was fun.
(01:34):
So, guys, without further ado,I'll give you the episode.
I just told you it was long.
Did I graduate?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Oh no, Am I kicked
out already?
You got kicked out Anyways.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Paul Caputo of
Baseball by Design.
We are actually what we'redoing right now.
We are at Sloan Park where theArizona Fall League All-Star
Game is happening, and what weare doing is we're having an
episode and we're both walking360 concourses, I think having
an episode is the perfect way todescribe me right now.
(02:06):
Right, you are having anepisode.
So what we do decided to do iswe're going to have an episode.
We're going to talk about theArizona Fall League Yep and
we'll talk about baseball Yep.
This is what we do.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
We do.
Here we are.
The game is happening right now.
Correct, there are runners onFirst and second right now.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
First there are
runners on first and second.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
right now, first and
second we just we just had a
very deep sack, fly Very deep, yeah.
So it's one nothing.
National League.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Warning track power.
Right there, it was Number six, robert Alright.
So your thoughts so far?
I mean, this is day two, right?
Yep, yesterday, at the time ofthis recording, yesterday, we
experienced what was a greathome run derby.
It was really fun For the kidsYep, for the kids.
(02:59):
We were putting time out.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
We just weren't
allowed near the fence because
they were afraid we were goingto elbow children in the face to
get home run balls.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Apparently, it
happened a lot with the kids.
It was not Paul or me yeah, Idid not hurt a kid.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
No, it was previous
years, previous years, previous
years.
Bad actors.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Right, but overall,
and it went really quick, though
, right, I mean it wasn't likeit was a Major League Baseball.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Right, no, it was
like an hour and a half.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yeah, Very quick.
The best part about it was justwatching the kids going from
left field to right field andback and forth right.
That was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
It was, by the way,
speaking of right field, we are
on the right field concourseright now.
This is just beautiful Speakingof right field, we are on the
right field concourse right now.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
This is just
beautiful.
It's a beautiful field.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
It's a nice park,
beautiful ballpark, huge, huge,
yep, yep, burn.
We're about to go behind thebatter's eye.
The first inning just wrappedup.
We're about to go behind thebatter's eye here.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
So far, all-star game
.
This is my first all-star game.
You know, my first arizona fallleague game as well.
Yeah, I enjoy.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
I mean, I am having a
lot of fun with this.
I'm enjoying this.
It is very low-key, very.
We bought general admissionseats and we are sitting
immediately beside the dugout, like we are.
You know you could reach outand touch the players, but they
don't encourage that.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
They asked you not to
do that.
I did try to take a hat.
They told me not to.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Yeah, they're like
hey you're like I don't care it.
They ask you not to do that.
I did try to take a hat.
They told me not to.
Yeah, they're like.
Hey, you're like I don't care,it's a flat brim anyway, it's my
hat, keep it.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
No, so accessibility
so far for this all-star game
has been really, really good.
Yeah, like you're able to getso close to the players.
Yep, they did the presentationof the American League and
National League.
That's pretty cool.
Every team represented, yep, which is awesome.
Yes, alright, so overall, yeah, give me your thoughts on the
(04:55):
Arizona Fall League.
How do you feel about, overall, the Arizona Fall League?
Speaker 2 (04:59):
So I think it's
really easy to try to draw
comparisons between springtraining and the arizona fall
league because they play at thesame facilities, right like this
is the cubs spring trainingballpark and it's you know.
For me, I don't think there's aton of parallels beyond the
(05:20):
fact that they're playing at thesame facilities.
The Arizona Fall League isprospects guys.
They're trying to get extraat-bats for.
This is for the hardcorebaseball fan who just wants to
hang on to that baseball seasonto see some more live baseball.
I'm going to come up here andget a picture, by the way.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Let's do it.
We're at the berm right nowagain.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yeah, now we're in
left field and we didn't come
out here last night, so this issort of a different view.
Yeah, and this is uh, yeah, this is, this is just a gorgeous
facility here.
So you know, the arizona fallleague to me is for the, the,
the person who just wants that.
You know that more baseballafter the world series has ended
, they're hanging on, correct?
(06:04):
They don't care about the NFLor the NBA or the NHL, all these
other leagues that have startedup and these other sports which
, by the way I do like thoseleagues.
I know it's fine, right, butthis is the person who wants the
live baseball Correct.
They care about the prospects.
I mean, this is honestly.
This is the all-stars of theArizona Fall League.
(06:25):
I don't recognize most of thesenames?
Speaker 1 (06:28):
I don't recognize a
single name.
I'll be honest with you.
There's a Phillies player here.
There's a couple of.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Cleveland Guardians
players, I don't know those
names.
Spring training you're going toget Mike Trout.
You're going to get ShoheiOtani.
You're going to get, you know,Mookie Betts.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Correct For an inning
or two anyway, Right and then
after that, that's when youstart seeing triple A, double A,
single A, exactly.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Guys who are sort of
given a shot.
These are prospects who theyjust want to get extra games in
extra playing time, Somedevelopment, Exactly.
And then it's also just becauseof the time of year.
The World Series has ended,Baseball has had its moment
right.
The World Series has ended Likebaseball has had its moment
right, and so to me, I thinkwe're probably a rarity folks
(07:09):
who have come out here, who havemade the trip out here just to
see the Arizona Fall LeagueCorrect, I think it's probably a
lot of locals.
It's not the destination, andMajor League Baseball doesn't
market it the same way they dospring training.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
And I'm surprised by
that.
Like I mean, we've seen.
Okay, so so far, the two gamesthat have been shown on Major
League Baseball Network has beenthis game, the All-Star game,
and then last night's Home RunDerby, which is not a game, but
it was broadcasted on MajorLeague Baseball Network.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yes, we Ranger, amy
andI were here two years ago for
the championship game.
Okay, and it was a similarthing right, yeah, it was sort
of sparsely crowded stands youcould kind of sit wherever you
felt like it.
There were some kids chantingback here.
I mean that's kind of fun.
They seem like they'relegitimately into it Kids
(08:00):
playing, you know tossing theball and just hanging out, but
you don't, you know, like theconcessions, and I mean you're
talking bare bones.
Pretty bare bones.
There's nothing like, there'snothing that, there's no plastic
souvenir or anything right.
No Like there's no ice creamhelmets.
There's nothing that reallysays Arizona Fall League on it,
except for a couple of T-shirts.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
And the team store is
actually just a couple of
tables.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
The team yeah, the
actual team store is closed and
dark.
We can see it over there on theright field side there, you
know, and they have like a tentset up.
I tried to get a size large.
Javelinas t-shirt.
Beautiful colors too.
I know it's awesome and I'mpsyched for it.
I hope to get it because I gotthe Saguaro's tshirt last time.
I love how it fits.
(08:43):
It's a great shirt.
But they like we're lookingthrough their box.
They were trying to find it.
I mean, size large is notexactly an unusual size so so
they like basically sent me away.
They're just like, hey, couldyou come back when it's less
crowded?
And I'm like there's fourpeople, yeah, I mean come on now
.
So, but spring training, man, the, the team store, the crowds,
(09:05):
like the parking costs money, like the tickets are expensive.
And so here's where I think youcan make that connection to
spring training.
I think that the Arizona FallLeague is kind of what spring
training used to be.
Spring training used to be kindof no frills.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Yeah, we were talking
about this now during our hike
this afternoon.
Yeah, and it was.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
You know, I think
this is.
You know, you're not here forthe souvenirs.
You're not here for like whatsouvenirs Exactly?
You're here because it'sbaseball and we have that last
gasp before the long, darkoff-season, or unless you're
going to go to Puerto Rico orthe Dominican or Australia to
(09:49):
just watch the developmentalleagues Right.
So you know, I love it.
I don't think there's acomparison.
Is this a gapper?
It's a gapper, it is.
Look at that.
All right, American League.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
Oh, we got two
runners on top of each other
here All right, that is a coupleof runs American.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
League takes the lead
2-1.
2-1, al.
Get that big old scoreboardbehind us there.
Oh yeah, another scoreboardover there.
So yeah, I mean that's fun, right, like nobody really reacts
to that.
I don't care who wins this game, because normally I would root
for the American, but theproblem is you have team players
on each side, so it doesn'treally matter, Right, but you
(10:28):
also have like rooting for theNational League.
It's like Braves and Metsplayers out there.
I don't root for Braves andMets players, yeah.
So anyway, you know, I just Ithink this is a fun, no frills,
awesome weather, baseballexperience.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
And where we're
sitting right.
You said that where we weresitting it was right by the
dugout and everything right.
You have what I could describeas a lot of collectors there.
Yes, they have a lot of thebaseball cars, they have some
baseballs, they got some 8x10pictures and everything waiting
for those players to come byclose enough so they can say,
hey, sign this for me, right, and it's not just like I see,
(11:07):
only like maybe one or two kids.
The rest have been grown adults.
Yeah, they have been asking forthe signatures.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Yes, yeah, uh, you
know it's, and they're like sort
of leaning over, like we, wesort of took that spot because
we thought it was cool to justsee, to see into the dugout,
yeah.
But yeah, there's definitelysome folks there who are, uh,
you know, like like leaning overand just like looking up the
players like frantically, likegoing through their scoreboards
and then they're like hey, trey, trey, can you sign this right?
(11:35):
um, there's also very clearlysome people who like know the
players, oh god, yeah, or, youknow, have some sort of
connection to them in some way, because, like you know, sitting
in front of us there was onebatter who came up and he just
stood up and he was justrecording it on his phone just
for that one player.
They know these players right, and I'm like dude, I didn't come
here to look at your back.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
We came here to see
the game Come on now.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
So I went to spring
training in 1994 as part of a
road trip and are you able to?
Compare it to this right now,it feels more to me like that
than it does to spring trainingnow, which I come to pretty
regularly.
Like Arizona Ranger Amy and Ihave come here.
Probably six or seven of thelast ten years we've been to
(12:26):
spring training games.
It feels spring training is amuch bigger deal than this.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Oh God yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
You know, and part of
the reason this isn't marketed
is because it just doesn't havethe names, it doesn't have the
cachet Spring training, likeyou've had the long dark winter
and you get here because youwant to get away from yeah,
you've got the baseball, hasstarted a beautiful sunshine,
and so so to me, you know, theyboth have their merits, they're
both awesome.
(12:54):
We got to go on an awesome hike.
We got to be in In Arizona inNovember, where it's cold.
It's cold in Colorado.
For me it's snowing in.
Colorado.
Yeah, exactly Less so for youin North Carolina.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
It's probably more
comparable.
It's 54 currently in NorthCarolina.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
But we get to be here
and watch this game right.
We get to enjoy it you and me.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
obviously we're a
different breed of fans.
We do enjoy, while you and memay not know the names.
Oh, we got a different breed offans, right, like we do enjoy,
while you and me may not knowthe names.
Oh, we got a home run baby.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Oh, and some douchey
grown-up just caught it with his
glove.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
We just got to go to
the adult.
Just grab it.
He gave it to his kid.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Good job All right,
all right, Good job.
Douchey grown-up, that's funny,yeah.
So I mean, it was a pretty nicecatch actually.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
That was pretty good,
all right, so that was our
first all-star home run?
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
You can hear all
these kids.
These kids are all like wild upnow Losing their minds.
Wow, wow, look it, daddy, lookit.
He says I don't know, like youalready don't care who wins an
All-Star game.
No, let alone the Arizona FallLeague All-Star game.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
So and I think, like
you're saying right, like you've
got to be enthralled intobaseball to really just be like
oh, we're coming from new yorkto watch the yeah, the arizona
fall league, the number ofpeople who have asked us like so
how come you guys are inarizona, like what else are you
doing?
Speaker 2 (14:31):
and we're like we
don't know, passing the time
until the baseball.
Yeah right, we're like waitwhat?
Speaker 1 (14:36):
they're only here you
got this baseball game going on
, which is again, and they'refrom ari.
Right, they're locals fromArizona.
Yeah, not a lot of people knowthat this is going on.
Right, exactly, that's my oneissue, and if I also have an
issue it's, the game is notbeing marketed.
Yeah, you know what I mean.
(14:56):
Yeah, I know you don't really,it doesn't really bother you.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yeah, I guess I just
don't care.
One of the things I love herethat you don't see at spring
training, as much is all of theminor league hats.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Oh, my God right.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Like.
There was a kid who just walkedby us wearing a Princeton
Arrays cap Yep, that was awesome, right, they don't even exist
anymore.
We saw the Tennessee Smokies.
We saw a guy wearing a Smokiesthe TS, not the new KS hat Yep,
(15:28):
yeah, I was talking to a guy whowas wearing the Asheville
Taurus cap and he was wearingthe T-shirt that they were
selling to benefit the hurricanevictims, which was that Ryan
Foose design.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
That's a cool one.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Yes, sir, so that's
fun.
There's a lot of minor leaguefans here.
It's not just major league fans.
Um, I think that that's a fun,a fun part of this, for sure.
Um, yeah, but you know, mostlyI think that you know, that is
what I.
What I appreciate the most isthe sort of pure no-frills
(16:04):
experience, is the Arizona FallLeague.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
I mean, we are
currently.
This is the Chicago Cubs springtraining facility.
Yes, Right.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
And.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
I have been here for
a spring training game and it is
madness.
It is chaos, right, andexpensive, Exactly Right.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
For us it was like
$20 a ticket.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
It was $20 Yep.
The one senior in our freeparking, like literally adjacent
to the right field, like, likethe car.
You know you would never noticeit because of the car that
we're driving, but it got hit bya baseball.
It wouldn't be that far out ofthe question.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
It wouldn't be that
far out of the question, right,
right, right, except for wherewe parked, yeah right.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Yes, but that car
that we're driving a loaner from
one of Ranger Amy's friends, but holy crap, it's a piece of
junk Like 75% chance that it'sgoing to start when we start it
up we don't know, we don't know,so yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
So let me ask you
this All right, I'm ready.
So if you were to, you've givenme your positives about what
you know the Arizona Fall League, right yeah, what you like.
So let me ask what is the onething that not necessarily don't
like, but like that you wouldmake a change on?
Speaker 2 (17:22):
The one thing that I
wish they could do.
I wish that they could find away to make it so that the
Phillies were part of the sameteam every year.
I'd love to have some kind ofalignment with.
You know, this year it's theGlendale Desert Dogs right Next
year it could be the Javelinas.
Yeah, and it has been theJavelinas in the past and I
(17:42):
remember before I knew that thatwas the case, I almost went and
loaded up on a bunch ofjavelina stuff because I thought
that was like the philliesarizona ball right, right and so
this to me like you know, I Iget that the reason for it is
that you know different teams.
Different major league teamsare sending different players
from different positions.
(18:02):
And so you just have to alignthe teams with the players that
they want to send.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
So I know that it can
be done, but that's the one
sort of thing where I wish youcould change that Right, because
this year, for example let'sjust take my Cleveland Guardians
this year they could be sendingtwo, three outfielders yeah
Right.
Where next year they could besending two, three outfielders
yeah Right, right.
Where next year they could besending nothing but infielders
Exactly.
So you can't rely on the samehaving them on the same team
(18:29):
over and over again.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Otherwise the
Glendale Desert Dogs might end
up with like 18 pitchers and yousay oh, we don't need that,
exactly, exactly.
So you know, that's a thing thatI think that I might change,
not that I would change, butthat my one sort of
disappointment is like notbecause these logos are fun
right, like, the teams are funand it would be fun to sort of
(18:52):
align with one, not just becauseof the logos.
So it's you know, if I had onewhere I could reliably be like
oh yeah, the Phillies every yearare going to be the Saguaro's,
and so I'm going to get a bunchof green Saguaro's stuff and
I'll wear it to Clearwater forspring training.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
In my opinion, I
think it's- your favorite?
Speaker 2 (19:09):
The Saguaro's is
probably my favorite.
Yeah, just because you knowfrom spending the last two days
with me here, I love a Saguarocactus.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
I access that.
We walk past it.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
I have proof, so yeah
, but like the javelinas is a
cool one, right, like hopingthey've come up with that size
large t-shirt for me here.
So, um, yeah, so that's, youknow, I definitely you know the
from a branding perspective andsort of like a fandom
perspective, that's.
That's the one thing I wouldlove to see slightly different.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
See, I'm okay with
the changes.
That really doesn't bother me.
Yeah, what really the changethat I would love to see, even
if you don't put it on, let'ssay, on MLB Network.
Right, let's say it'll cost toomuch put it on MLB Network.
Why don't you do it on the MLBapp?
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Or you know what I
mean, show the games on there.
Or YouTube, right, Right, Imean everybody's using YouTube.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Because these
ballparks are all set up for
that.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
They already are
exactly.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
And you don't need
Sam Dykstra and Tyler Maughan
out here calling the games rightLike you could have.
No, I mean, we have volunteered.
We have volunteered ourservices to be the play-by-play
guys.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
We have volunteered
to do a Manning-style all-star
game.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Right Things like
that Minor League.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Baseball, are you
listening?
We will make sure that we'lltag them on this episode so they
can listen to us.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
That guy who just
grounded out the third base has
an awesome name.
His name was Gino Groover,groover.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Groover.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Yes, gino Groover,
that's a pretty sweet name right
there.
So now I have a question foryou about this.
Yeah, go for it.
The fact that the Major LeagueBaseball season ended, I don't
know, like a week, ten days agoI forget exactly how long it was
Like, is it difficult for youto sort of reprise baseball mode
?
Like you get to that last gameof the Major League Baseball
(20:59):
season and it's like baseball'sbig culminating moment.
Yeah, and now you're here at abaseball game.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
You have to readjust
mentally, right, yeah, yeah,
yeah, you know, like I mean, because we have been doing this
since what?
Since February, right, right, you know when pitches and
catches show up, right, yeah, like I mean, that's the.
And then, for me, you know, baseball officially starts.
Ooh, that's a good hit, it's agapper, yeah, it is Good.
(21:26):
Double right there, oh, yeah, all the way.
Romeo Sanabria, sanabria of thePadres, yeah, so, oh, by the
way, he's playing for theJavelinas.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
I'm going to go see,
I know right.
So like, for me the seasonstarts with the Caribbean
baseball series.
Yeah, right, the championshipseries.
That's.
That's.
For me that's when it starts.
Yeah, so it's like earlyJanuary, early February how do
you access that?
do you watch it on on TV orusually they'll have the
Caribbean baseball series, andwhat they've been doing lately
is, like the championshipthey've been, they've been
showing it on TV.
Okay, all right, it hasn'talways been like that, yeah,
(22:07):
right.
And for those who also those ofyou don't know what the
Caribbean baseball series, it'sthe champion of each of the
winter leagues.
Slow, for example, the championof Puerto Rico, of the
Dominican Republic, venezuela, colombia, um right, so you have
those teams that come to centrallocation.
This year will be in mexicali, mexico, so they'll be playing
(22:28):
the championship series there.
Right, play off the whole nineyards.
So that's, it's, that's cool,right, like it's cool to see
that series um, I've been, youknow, I've been to a car series
you have.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
We have talked about
this Venezuela versus Mexico in
Puerto Rico.
Yes, it's amazing.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
So when the World
Series ends, right, because it's
especially this year ending insuch a crazy way.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
We really thought we
were getting a game six.
I think everyone thought therewas going to be a game six.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Like after third
inning I knew that I was like oh
, game six, here we go right.
I mean this is a wash.
But it wasn't right.
As everybody knows already, fifth inning was the debacle of
the Yankees.
But because it was such a highstakes game, you know, then
you're like all right, sobaseball's over.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Yeah, not really you
know this almost, even though
it's only like a week or solater.
This feels like the reset to me, right, Like this is sort of
the beginning.
This is where we start rampingup to next year.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Cause now you're
starting to to study prospects.
Yeah Right, like for those ofyou that do that, this is where
prospects you start taking stockof what you have for the future
.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and
it's, you know, it's like again
, there's probably, there'sprobably like 1,500 people here.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
I would say about
2,000.
Yeah, 1,500 to 2,000 people.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Yeah, and it's on TV.
We got you know Lynn Smith'swatching us right now, reporting
that she's looking for us.
Yep, you know we were bothwearing green this afternoon, so
she was looking for a couple ofgreen T-shirts.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Nope, no green
T-shirts.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Now we've got a
couple of gray hoodies on.
It is getting a little cold.
So you know it's on TV, butlike you know, At least I'll
give them that right.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
At least they put the
All-Star game.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Yeah, but my
Baseballpalooza thread has been
all about NBA basketball,Correct, yeah, I mean.
So you know, even mybaseballpalooza guys have moved
on.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
That's what I'm
saying.
No one is really payingattention and I think you know
baseball could do a better jobwith this, I guess.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Every time you say
that, I shrug and I say I guess
and I think it's because it justdoesn't feel necessary to me
Like this exists for the peoplewho want to seek it out.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
But that's what I'm
saying.
Put it on the minor leaguebaseball app Sure.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Make it accessible to
people who want to see it.
That's what.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
I'm saying I get that
.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
But I don't think it
needs to be actively marketed.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
No, no, no, no, no,
because it won't Right.
They're not going to spend themoney to market this.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
But if you're minor
league baseball nut, lynn Smith,
and you're watching this on theMLB network right now, I think
that's awesome for that caliberof fan to be able to sit down
and watch this Correct.
But I just don't need ads on mysocial media being like go
(25:21):
watch the Arizona Fall League.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
See, I think that's
where you and me differ.
I'm okay with that and thendoing that, yeah all right yeah,
like I'm, I'm totally okay withmarketing it on social media.
Use social media.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
I mean, at the end of
the day, social media is free,
so free marketing I mean, butI'm just saying like, like I
don't think that this needs tobe one of Major League
Baseball's like, like MajorLeague Baseball's marketing
efforts have a lot to resolve.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
They have other
issues Before they get to.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
we've got to promote
the Arizona Fall.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
League better.
I agree Again, but I think thiswill be a step in the right
direction to have baseball.
You know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Yeah, you asked me
what my disappointments were,
and I talked about aligning thePhillies with certain teams.
Yep, my other disappointment isthat I can't get an ice cream
helmet with the Arizona FallLeague logo on it, but again we
go back to this.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
No, that's the
marketing.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Okay, I'll agree with
you there.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
That's what I'm
saying.
The marketing side of thingsThey've done it Okay.
I also have my issues with thetype of merchandise they have
here.
First of all, no dad hatswhatsoever.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
No, dad hats
whatsoever.
Agreed, agreed, agreed.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
There were two styles
of hats faded hats yeah.
One of them was $35.
Yeah, which?
Speaker 2 (26:34):
is the canvas style
one which you bought last night.
You got your Scorpions cap.
Last night I got a.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
Scorpions hat because
I didn't have a choice in other
hats.
Right and I've been wanting toget them.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Because you couldn't
not buy a hat.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
No, and then they had
this mesh Nuera, one which was,
and I almost you know, chokedon my Sprite $55.
Sprite has been your drink ofchoice this week?
Yeah, because they're off Pepsiin here, oh boy oh my God, that
is some bad taste.
He ran right into it.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
I mean there's two
outs, it doesn't matter, but
still that was bad.
Yeah, yeah, hey, should we walkover towards the team store to
see if they?
Speaker 1 (27:10):
have my Javelina
shirt?
Yeah, let's go, and then maybesee if we can talk to them about
it.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
Yeah, oh, you're
going to get them on the podcast
.
I don't know if they'll offerit.
They wouldn't do it.
No, I wanted to talk about theroped off area for the kids.
They're like no, no, this isnot happening.
All right, how's it going, guys?
Good, I was here earlierlooking for the we're doing a
podcast.
(27:33):
Oh, he's this podcast, but Idon't think this is for the
podcast necessarily.
But I was here earlier lookingfor a size large Javelina shirt
t-shirt.
And they said come back.
Did you find?
one large javelina shirt,t-shirt.
And they said come back did youfind one?
Speaker 1 (27:48):
ah, it's the best
look at that, I'm so excited oh,
he might have sold that oh mygod oh man, he about to get in
trouble too there was.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
oh well, that's
pretty cool.
Is that large?
Can I see what is it?
Uh, oh yeah, that'll do that.
That's great All right Awesome.
Yeah, that's perfect, that'sgreat.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
That's all right.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
You're all good.
You got a lot of people here.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
Oh, like we were
waiting for it to be quiet and
then, all of a sudden, likeeveryone just ended on you guys,
I'll just take this shirt.
All good, all right.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Thank you so much,
appreciate it.
Oh, now here's Ed.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Getting his.
I need the saguaros in a large.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
I'm sorry.
No, I'm sorry, you're right.
2x, I apologize.
2x, 2x 2X and then on thecanvas on the Saguaros can you
look for a 7.25?
Speaker 1 (28:50):
I think we're going
to come to blows here over our
disagreements on Major LeagueBaseball's marketing efforts or
lack thereof.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
So I'm sorry that
you're having to hear our
disagreements.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Do you have 7.25 in
any of the mesh?
Yeah, see, I don't want it inthe mesh.
The obvious tension that existsbetween Ed and me when we talk
about this.
You don't have any other stylesthat have 7 1⁄4 in a canvas.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
Guy's a real asshole.
He's looking for me right now.
He can't find me.
He has no idea where I am.
I'm going to hide behind somepeople so that he can't see me.
He can't see me.
Yeah, I'm over here, ed, keeplooking, keep, so that he can't
see me.
He can't see me.
Yeah, I'm over here, ed, keeplooking, keep checking those
hats, ed.
It doesn't matter how manytimes you check them.
There's not going to be any dadhats over there.
There's adjustables right there.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
No, dad hats.
That's the adjustable.
It's like a 47 series that oneright there.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
But they've got like
the structured front right.
It's not as structured, you canbreak it down.
Oh, it's structured.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Yeah, I'm talking
about dad hat, dad hat like soft
front 47 brand, It'll breakdown, I promise.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
I believe you or you
can do the.
You know this guy here.
He's the dad hat king.
That's actually his handle onsocial media.
I don't know if we have anymore of those, the AFL ones.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
There's a black one
and a gray one.
I already have a Scorpions one.
Oh, there's a black AFL.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
Dad hat you, don't
need to look on the Scorpions.
Is it like a legit dad hat?
Speaker 1 (30:12):
You don't even on the
rafters either.
They may be out of them.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Okay, heads up.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
Holy Jesus.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Those are rare to
come by.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
I know that's what
I'm.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Nah, it's too
structured on the front.
Thanks though, you know youwear it and it shapes your head
right.
You know these, though, likelook.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
I'm telling you, give
it a chance.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Listen, I've been
wearing hats for like 45 years.
I understand and you know giveit a chance.
You might like something new.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
It's a little tight.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
So yeah, Got people
arguing with me.
What?
Speaker 1 (30:48):
kind of hat I like to
wear.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
I know what kind of
hat I like to wear.
It's still looking for me.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
You don't have it.
Yeah, the solar socks you don'thave anything.
What's the only size that yougot in the solar socks?
That's all too big.
That's fine, we'll just do theshirt.
Yeah, oh, no, know you.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Good it's buying the
shirt that I'm wearing right now
.
Copycat here's.
The thing is that thismicrophone is clicking my head
and I am walking.
People think I'm talking tothem.
That's how come that ladystarted talking to me about that
.
What's up just right over here.
I haven't been saying anything.
I know standing here quietly.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
I know, do you bet?
I'm sure you have.
I cannot wait to hear thisrecording.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
This is so much fun.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Cool, so not a whole
lot of options.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
No, I was watching
you, like really wrestle with it
there.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
I really was trying
to get me ahead.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
I was trying to get
yeah enough.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
So anyways, Overall,
the experience for the All-Star
Game, All-Star Series, has beena positive.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Oh, 100% yeah,
beautiful weather, beautiful
ballpark.
It'll be a great, greatexperience here watching the
game.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
I highly highly,
highly recommend anybody to come
out.
Do some, definitely do somehiking.
Yeah, mesa is beautiful.
Yeah, where's the town that wewere staying at?
Speaker 2 (32:06):
We're staying in
Fountain Hills.
Fountain Hills when we went tothe Great American or the
All-American Brew Pub twiceyesterday.
Shout out to our boy, salvador, salvador, that dude is awesome.
And I'm going to advocate to goback there again tonight after
this game.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
After this game, At
least one more time right, we
are in the third inning, correct?
Speaker 2 (32:27):
You know?
I think this game has alreadybeen like an hour here.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Do you?
Speaker 2 (32:31):
think they have the
pitch clock.
Oh yeah, they do have the pitchclock, they do.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
And it's 5-1.
American League.
Just want you to point that out5-1.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
American League In
the third inning and we know
that no American League team isever going to blow a five-run
lead.
No, why would they ever dosomething like that?
But yeah, no, I'm super glad wedid this.
I think we could start lookingat like a way to, you know,
maybe do like a curb rim meetupfor something like this.
I mean, it's affordable, it'seasily accessible.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
It doesn't have to be
the All-Star game we just
happen to have like.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
That just happened to
fall this weekend.
Yeah right, that was theweekend we picked and that's
what was going on.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
But we can do a
couple of games, you know,
around the area.
It's pretty accessible too likein distance.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
If you stay.
The difference to me in hey goPhils.
If the difference to me is yes.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
Paul, just saw a fan
wearing a Phils t-shirt.
He had a Phils t-shirt.
You say go, phils, it's theofficial greeting of
Philadelphia.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
That's okay, or go
Burt's.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
But yeah, it's like
super accessible here.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
Right Like you get a,
you get one hotel and you can
access all of the ballparks fromone hotel Different from
Florida, like if you go toFlorida for spring training.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
It's only sure in
Tampa area you're not gonna be
able to get that many.
Yeah, I mean it's oh good playright there.
Yeah, if you shortstop winning, grab that one it was supposed
to go right down the middlesaved a run, yeah, save two runs
, yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
So, uh, yeah, but you
know you could, you can come
here, like if you came here on aregular arizona fall league
weekend, you'd you know you'd beable to see two or three
ballparks.
Um, you know, we only saw sloanpark twice because that's where
that's where the series, thefestivities, were happening
exactly but uh, you know, itwould be fun to see a couple of
ballparks over a fall leagueweekend.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
So I don't know,
maybe we should think about that
Maybe we should do that right, you know, do a Kerberon Media
Meetup.
Listeners tell us what youthink.
Yeah, absolutely, I think it'llbe a great idea.
Tag Paul and I on social media.
Yeah, and then we'll see howthat goes.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
Absolutely for coming
.
My friend, this is a lot of fun, I'm sure.
I'm sure the editing on thisepisode is gonna be.
You're gonna have a blast withit.
Is this gonna be a rareone-parter?
Just because we sort of it'slike, you know like a half-hour.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Yeah, I mean.
I mean we might try to get acouple more people to give us
their opinion, oh yeah very good.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Well, ed, thanks, for
I appreciate that you made the
trip out here.
We proved once and for all thatyou are able to get on an
airplane, hey.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
I was able to get out
of North Carolina.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
No natural events
were in the way of me getting
out this time we both escapedsome weather.
So yeah, so I am psyched aboutbeing here, psyched about my new
Peoria.
Javelinas shirt.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
here it's a nice one.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
I know right, it's a
little.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
It's gray with some
lime green printing on it some
fluorescent there, yeah it's allgood.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
So I'm gonna now I'm
gonna get back to my seat and
see how melted my Dr Pepper is.
That sounds exciting.
I'm gonna go get me a hot dog.
Are you getting a hot dog?
Speaker 1 (35:39):
All right, all right,
I'm heading back to the seat.
All right, well, everybody, just thank you for enjoying this
episode.
