Speaker 2 (00:30):
Edition of the Daily Ticket. A lot to get to.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
We're going to talk about the Masters, of course, focus
on the pills here final finally, last call as far
as the NBA is concerned with the weekend games and
playoffs will be starting next week, So a lot to
focus on right now in the sports gambling world. First, Luke,
fighting a little bit of the uh, the bugs the
(00:52):
last week.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
How you feeling, Yeah, a little bit rough, rough few
days from my stomach, I'll tell you that, but we're
fighting back.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Feel better today.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Some good golf in the last few hours has been
helping the stomach, I think. So it's been some nice
last few hours at the Masters. Feel a lot better
than I did about forty eight hours ago.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
I'll tell you that. All right, Well, that's good to hear.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
And of course you lost your web your Twitter account
for a little bit there too, so that was trouble.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Yeah, I don't know what happened.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Evan's locking me up or something for early on.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:28):
We got it back, but everything's just everything hit the
fan the last two days, the health, the Twitter, everything's
going on.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah, and you're a little cloudy as far as the
internet connection here, So that's all right, no big deal there.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
It's just a beautiful last two days. All right.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Let's talk about the fightings last night and what took place,
and it's just it's a tough one, you know. I
want to lose my mind over it, first and foremost.
It's April tenth, last night, eleven this morning, you know, And.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
I take that back. I don't want to lose my
mind over it.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
But what I would like to do is is be
a little bit more enthused with the take about last night.
But come on, man, it was just so crazy the broadcast.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I'll just tell you this much. So on YouTube TV,
I record every.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Game so this way, if I do fall asleep, I'm
able to go back and watch it really easy. So normally,
an average broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia summer running three
hours long, right, that's pregame, that's postgame, and last night
it was six hours and five minutes. I want to
say the full broadcast was.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yeah, I think it was a seven to one.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
It was a seven to fifteen start, and I don't
think it ended till about one, like one o'clockish.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
I'm not gonna lie to you. I fell asleep.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I've been sleeping a lot the last two days because
I've been sick. I tried to stay up and I
didn't even make it through the rain delay last night.
I was out before they even they even got back
from it.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
It was a long rain delay, Yeah it was.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
It was.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
It was like over two hours. It's brutal, Yeah, it
really was.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
But again, you know, I guess what we could focus
on putting the fact that they ended up losing a series,
first series loss this year, albeit to the Braves, it
does sting a little bit. Oh well, you're going to
lose games, especially to a team like that.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
You know what we can.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Focus on here is a couple of the the issues
as far as with Boom, with Marsh, the changing of
the order. Where we at with that conversation. So I
would like to start there and take it one by
one and we'll open things up with the Schwarber lead
off slash clean up right like, Because now that opened
(03:39):
it's it's the conversation is full fledged open again. It
wasn't a conversation last year because he wasn't batting cleanup.
He was a leadoff hitter. Now you see what he's
able to do albeit this short.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Time frame in the clean up position.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
You see how nasty he is far and away the
best player on this team right now. Forty to one
to win MVP, thirteen to one to lead the league
in home runs? Oh yeah, Is this where he needs
to be at the top of the lineup to get
that extra at bet or should he be in the
clean up position? Are you okay with the way Thompson's
been handling it so far? Where are you at with
(04:16):
that conversation?
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah, honestly, I'm cool with it.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
I think it's kind of I don't really think there's
one that's worked like a lot better than the other one.
I think it's the matter of right now, Schwarber's hitting
really well, Trey's been hitting well.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Harper obviously had the homer last night.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
I think, honestly, the first twelve games of Harper season
haven't really.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Gone that great.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I would say it's been a lot of He's He's
just laid on a lot of fastballs, which this happens
once a year to Bryce.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
I'm not worrieding the slightest about Bryce.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
He just always has this one sort of just really
cold streak he goes through every year, and and this
one just happened to be at the beginning of the season.
But as far as the lineup, I'm I'm not really
concerned on how they're sort of formatting it right now.
I mean, I'm I'm more concerned with a few of
the guys that are hitting in it right Sure, out
(05:14):
Boom's been been dreadful so far to start the year.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
But before we dive.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Into those guys, just let's just focus on Sworeber in
the clean up position for a second, like, because it
was that is a hot button topic for two years now,
if maybe three, Yeah, maybe we go back even further
than that. And then now like this dude is dialed
in and my goodness, is he hitting the cover off
(05:38):
the baseball two nights ago. That home run was just
mashed like something I've never seen before and then last night.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
I feel like last night could have been could have
been even harder. I don't know what the.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Next gen stats were, but that thing was smashed. So, like,
where do you want to see him hit. I'm kind
of in the middle on this. I like getting the
extraft back, but dude, he's a cleanup hitter. Man get
him in the four spot, keep him there.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Yeah, I'm very in the middle on it as well.
I think if it's if it's working where they're kind
of doing the two lineup thing, I don't I don't
think there's a reason to change it. I mean, I
think ideally right now, I think I like Trey leading off,
so Schwarber can be in the four. But the issue
right now is I don't want Alec Bohm hitting third,
(06:27):
and and that's what's kind of happening when Trey leads off.
So that's sort of the issue right now. Alec Boom
is causing a lot of the lineup issues right now because.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
If if if if.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Alec Bohm looked like last year's first half Alec Boum,
I don't really think the lineup would matter right now.
But how much do you want Boom to be hitting
in the three hole right now, because that's what it's
going to be if Trey.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Is leading off.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
So I'm I'm I'm pretty indifferent on it right now.
I don't really care if Schwarber hits lead off, if
he hits fourth. I will say, I do need to
go back after this, and I do want to pull
up the stats combined from the games that he hits
lead off in the games that he hits and clean
up because I am curious to see how it's been so.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Far to start.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Yeah, but yeah, no real take for me there. I
would say, I think what they're doing right now is working.
I thought I once again, I just think the issue
is is a few of these guys that are in the.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Lineup right now? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (07:33):
So what is the change? Why did Schwarber bat lead
off last night? Why is some nights he batting clean up?
Other than this is just simply based off of the
opposing picture?
Speaker 2 (07:43):
What is that? That's it simply put?
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yes, so when when uh so, Schwarber hits lead off
when there is a.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Right hander on the mound last night it was obviously.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Or Schwellenbach.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Who's that the last? Is that the longest last name
in baseball.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
I'd have to check. I'd have to check.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
I will say he's got he's got one of those
jerseys the curves.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
All down the side of it. Stop.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, that's a long land. He needs to go by
a symbol.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Yeah, so he So when a right he's on the mountain,
Schwarber goes. When a left he's on the mountain, Tray goes.
The Phillies have have actually been a little left handed heavy.
I would say early to start the year, so we've
seen more I would say Trey lead off over I
would say, like a twelve game sample size. Then I
think you'll see based on the rest of the year. Obviously,
(08:38):
I think we know you get more right handed arms
and you get left handed arms. But they've seen a
fairly good amount of lefties, at least the first few
series at least. But yeah, I mean, I think they're
gonna stick with that because I don't think switching back
and forth isn't really hurting them right now. And and
I think it's it's working. I mean, obviously he's had
(09:00):
a good start to the year, Schwarber's had a good
start to the year, and and and those guys are
the two guys that are being foot flopped the most.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
Nobody else is really switching much.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
I mean, Harper's hitting two in Treys there and three
when Schwarber's there, and then Boom is the only really
other one. It's really just where those sort of mix
of Righty's hit. If it's Schwarber there, then it's usually
Boom in the four. If it's Trey there, then Bom
usually hits in the third. So it's it really just
(09:33):
comes down to, once again, what production you're getting out
of Boom and and you're not getting a lot right now.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
It's it's been a painful start to his year so far.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
All right, great stuff there.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Yeah, I'm looking at you know, just as far as
what Schwarber's doing, and I know Turner's gonna look.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Turner had a little bit of a slow start.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
He had the big home run the other night. Off
the top of my head, I think he's okay, he
could be he I want more. I think we all
expect more from Trey Turner. Uh, but I'm pretty sure
that you know he's gonna find his way.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
It's not easy to swing the bat right now. It
was fifty four degrees yesterday down there's chili like these guys. Yeah,
I was thinking last night, you know, I went out
for a couple of beverages to watch the replay them.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
I love I love the replay of the Masters.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Oh going, I would love sitting there watching the replay
with raising Phillies.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
You already know.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Oh yeah, like you already know the results. You're sitting
there just just enjoying. That's the thing is, you're not sweating.
You're enjoying it. You're enjoying itying it. You're watching Phillies.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
And I couldn't. You know, most of us can't watch.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Look, you're gonna get a rant out of me a
little bit talking about this coverage of matters.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
Oh I'm ready, I'm ready to go.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
I'm losing my mind. All though. Anyways, that was a
big deal.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Last night was like, all right, I enjoy going bellying up,
got some wings with the boys at the bowhouse last night.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Them Hector boys met me out. We watched a little replay.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Everything was great until we went into the delay, and
that was when I was like, all right, I gotta
go home.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Anyways, we're watching Moneyball there for a little bit.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
We did watch Moneyball on sort sitting there watching Moneyball
on your phone. That's when you know we're sort of
in like the dead period money like the playoffs start. Oh,
I mean, there's there's nothing watching Moneyball, but you gottah.
But if you got to watch a movie on your
phone at the bar, you know, weren't a little bit
of a dead period exactly.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
So last night was fun though, But you know, I
look at what the Phillies are right now, and again
it's early. We got a long way to goo. There's
no freaking out. But these are interesting questions to get into.
And I wanted to bring that up because that was
a hot button topic for a few seasons and I
didn't know where we were if that is an open
question now because I've always looked at as shore bur
(11:43):
is a leadoff hitter, like they Thompson's got it.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
He knows what he's doing getting the extra bat.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
But seems like we're entertaining that conversation now a little
bit more, and it's simply based more to do so
with the struggles of these.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Other players as well.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
So with that, let's go ahead and talk about marsh
Let's focus on him before we get into Boom. What's
going on with Marsh this year, Man, I know that
everybody saw the same stat that I did on the
timeline essentially from All Star Break last year. This dude
has been brutal, straight a bunch. What's going on with Marsh?
What's your expectations? Is there anything that they can do differently?
Speaker 1 (12:25):
As far as differently, I don't, I don't know. I
mean that status you were saying. He's now forty seven
for two and one with a with a two thirteen
batting average with eighty one strikeouts and twenty four walks.
Since the All Star Break. He has one hit since
the National Suit. He's hitting one thirty three on the season.
(12:46):
The funniest part is he uh, he has one hit
since the National Series and his his ops is almost
one hundred and fifty points higher nowt bombs.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
So that that is where that is your struggle right now.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
It's it's the it's it's legitimately those two guys.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Because I've seen.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
A lot of and I think I tweeted this yesterday,
I've seen a lot of people try and rope Stot
into this.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
This like struggling daycare early in the year.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
I mean, Stott's hitting like he's hitting over to eighty
right now to start the year. I haven't seen many
issues with Scott. He's had multiple big hits to start
the year. Yeah, the issue right now exactly, and yes,
it's an incredible glove. The issue right now is is
is Marsh. And Marsh's problem since he's really joined the
(13:41):
league is he's not a good enough hitter to strike
out as much as he does. Listen, you can get
guys like Ryan Howard who will hit forty five fifty
home runs a year and will strike out a lot.
It's okay for a guy like Ryan Howard to strike
out that much. It's not okay for a Brandon Marsh,
(14:02):
who has a career four h six slugging percentage to
strike out at the rate that he does. He's struck
out one hundred and fifty four times in one hundred
and thirty five games last year. He has just about
at least one strikeout a game. Right now, he's on
pace to strike out around one hundred and fifty five
times again this year. That's his issue is he's just late,
(14:26):
and it's every at bat. It seems like he just
gets behind in the count and he's late on fastball
and the guy can't hit a breaking ball right now
to save his life.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
It's rough.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
And the hardest part about Marsh is he's piecing sometu
of the balls, but he's falling into the same trap
as Boem right now is where everything's just going into
the ground, like it's just ground ball after ground ball
after ground ball. And listen, if you're hitting one thirty
three to start the year, but you're hitting sack flies
(15:01):
and and and you're hitting line drives the center or
you're taking line drives opposite feel we can work with that,
like that's that's things that eventually.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
It'll start falling.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Just hard hit ground balls to shortstop aren't like aren't
gonna start falling. So that's where they need to figure
out what's going on with Marsh.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
I I do need to go and sort of look.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
It feels like it feels like his swing is just
down into the ground right now. Yeah, it seems like
everything's just just down and just just straight into the dirt.
And it really feels like it's the same thing with Boone.
But Marsh is going to have to start to play well.
I'll say that because he's not. He's he's not some
(15:47):
you know, some Trey Turner, some Nick Castiano, Schwarber. He's
not some guy that's just locked into this roster forever.
That's a guy that I if he has a bad
season that I mean by July, that could be justin
Crawford's spot if he can, if he continues to rake
and triple a. So Brandon Marsh is gonna have to
(16:10):
start really picking it up because there's there's gonna be
guys that they're gonna continue to give chances to. I mean,
if Marsh can't hit a ball to save his life
right now, what's the difference of having Rojas out there
more than him? Rojas can't that great, but his glove's better.
So what's the difference really right now of Marsian Rojas.
(16:30):
So Marsh needs to figure it out. I mean that's
the bottom line. His ops is under five hundred. I
mean he's hitting one thirty three this year and it's
it's just bad. I mean, he has five walks to
start the year. Just not good, not good at all.
I don't he has one extra base hit all year
and it was his home run. He doesn't have a
(16:51):
double or a triple yet. It's it's real bad. Other
than his home run, he is three four twenty nine
this year, So not not a good start in the
slightest for Brandon Marshall.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Yeah, and you brought up Crawford again. Nobody is hitting
the panic button. He's are just innocent, honest conversations that
I'm picking your brain about.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
So, like i want to just be.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Full disclosure on that, I'm gonna be like full PORTNOI here,
don't cut it. So what I'm trying to say is,
you know, and I think everybody understands that we're all
watching these games, and of course we're all die hard.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
You know, it was really cool last.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
Night, Like I'm sitting there and you don't get this
in many cities, Like you'll get it into Chicago, you'll
get it in Boston, you'll get it in New York.
I'll guarantee you're not getting this in LA like those
fugazy Dodger fans. But like people were literally clapping along
with every out last night. People were invested in that
(17:52):
April tenth ball game last night between the Braves and
the Pills. And I'm talking about women, I'm talking about dudes.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
All the way at the corner. I'm talking about bartenders.
I'm talking about servers. Everybody was focused on this game
last night.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
I was just like, man, this is so cool to
be in this city, to be a fan of this
team right here. They hit me a little bit last night,
and of course the raindola happened, and then we all
stop watching they and you know what, the stuff that
they were rolling out during the raindolay too. I just
we got to do a little bit better job, you know,
get back to the yearbook.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
You don't like watching match Strom on box as some
baseball cards.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
There was six episodes.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
Now it's like, yo, dude, like go on like four
of them.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Before I went to sleep, I thought it was baseball cards.
I thought it was standard.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
You roll out the yearbook from the previous year, and
if you have to keep going, that's how you go that.
That's when you go ninety three, you go ninety three
yearbook and then of course the oh eight yearbook.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
That nobody likes a yearbook more than me, I'll tell
you that. Love me a Phillies yearbook. I'll just go
back and randomly watch odd Ones twenty nineteen Phillies Yearbook.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
I'm in a big fan of the yearbooks.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
All right, So from from Brandon Marsh, like you said,
with Crawford, what is the what's the expectation for Crawford
right now in Triple A? Of course we want to
see him continue to do what he's down there doing
and get up to the bigs, But like the expectation,
where were we going into the season, and like was
(19:22):
it expected for him to be playing this year for
the Phillies.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
I mean, yeah, I think him starting in Triple A
was a big sign because I think if they truly
wanted his sort of start date to be twenty twenty six,
I think they would have started him with Aiden Miller
in Double A. But yeah, I mean they're they're leaving
the door open for it. I don't think this is
(19:47):
something that's gonna happen like next week, and probably not
something that's gonna happen next month. This to me feels like, uh,
maybe right after the All Star break kind of thing.
If they really need this this outfielder. I mean, if
if Marsh continues to hit like this for a month
(20:08):
two months, I mean they're gonna have to do something.
I think they could treat this sort of like a
deadline move where obviously they're not getting somebody from out
of club. But this could be a situation where you
give marsh up and I mean, I guess the All
Star break.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
I think it's.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Around middle of July.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
I think it's like the twelfth this year.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
If if, if, if you give him till then and
he's not doing what you need for him to do,
and and you have a guy in Crawford who's hitting
three hundred down in Triple A with with his glove.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
And and his speed.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
I mean, I I think it's it's something the Phillies
have to do. I don't think that's a move. If
they're struggling in the outfield. They're not gonna just leave
Arawford in Triple A all season. They're gonna try something.
So I don't think it's it's necessarily going to be soon.
I know I did one of those things last night
(21:04):
and and some guy asked me a just a random
date for his start.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
I throughout July eighteenth.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
It's the first it's the first series after the All
Star break.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Uh, it's Angels, Phillies.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
There's my random projected date. But if if, if they're
gonna do it, it won't be till the summer. But
I also don't think it'll be a situation where they'd
bring him up like early September. I think if if
they want, if if if they're gonna bring Crawford up,
they want Crawford to start in October in centerfield, So
(21:43):
if the case, they're not going to give him two
weeks to hit major league pitching.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
So I think it'll be a situation like midsummer.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
But yeah, I mean that is the reason why marsh
needs to really get it going, because.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
The Phillies aren't aren't aren't.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
They're not like finning the miners anymore.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
This isn't years p where these pros are the only
options there. There's guys now in the miners that can
can make a difference, obviously him, Crawford, Otto, Kemp Rinkones,
these these guys down there. There's multiple guys who can
make a difference on this roster right now. So I
(22:23):
you'll see any of the until the summer, but I think, uh,
the one that's probably the most likely would be Crawford. Yeah,
I mean, I mean exactly right here from Kyle twenty
twenty three. Rojas was called up in July after an
injury because he was hitting over three hundred with a
great glove. With their other options struggling, it's it's they're
not going to give a guy two weeks to just
(22:46):
just like just run out there, like right before October.
Like they're not gonna call Crawford up with nine games
left in the right season and say, hey, you go
find it, figure it out, and then like Wildcard round
on first game, you're out in center field like like
that's not gonna happen. They're gonna give them time. And
I mean it's not you know, it's not one hundred
(23:08):
percent of a lock. But I think they're really thinking
about it already. I don't think it's obviously gonna happen yet,
but I think it has to be in the back
of their months.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Yeah, good stuff from Kyle Fisher there as well. And
look like you.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Said, man, no one's no one's in the panic button.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
But these are definitely conversations that they are having and
with all focused on other options out there. Of course,
trade deadline is something that they could be focused on
later as well. Now quickly, as far as the struggles
with Alec Bahum, and I'm more concerned about him than anything,
because I think so much, you know, and and and
that's let me just also say this, I don't think
that Alec Bohm and Brandon Marsh are as bad as
(23:44):
they are right now.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Like they're bad.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Right now, They're not this bad. These guys are snake Ben.
What did Marsh gradden in that double play on first
base yesterday? It was absurd, It was absurd. So, like,
these guys aren't that bad. They're their own worst that.
I mean, they're young players, they're going through it. But
Boom is definitely struggling, and as we pointed it out,
like he's a key cog in this whole lineup. He's
hitting one sixty right now, he's got fifty at bats
(24:11):
on the season, he's struck out ten times, he's got
one double, no home runs, he's got three RBIs on
the season, he's got eight hits and fifty at bats.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Like, it's just it's not good. And I don't know.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Again, I guess my my question to you is like,
is this a Sosia situation? What are the other options
other than Boom will get in there and figure it
damn out.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
Yeah, So to put it in sort of perspective, Alec Boum.
There's around two hundred and something qualified hitters right now
in baseball. Obviously there's some ties, so these these numbers
aren't exactly, but Alec Boum is fourth from the bottom
in all of baseball and OPS. That is not good.
(24:56):
He has a three fifty six OPS right now. The
only guy under him is three rookies. It's really, really,
really bad. I believe he's four for his last forty
right now. He's starting to get into the phase. And
I said this last night, and of course the next
(25:18):
at bat he spiked one into the ground and everyone
was like, but he's sort of getting into the phase
right now where he's starting to hit the ball hard
and just nothing's falling. Yes, he's grounding into a lot
of double plays like he always does, but a lot
of his outs that he's making right now are are
(25:38):
are are hard hit liners and and and yes they're
sort of grounders, but they're extremely hard to hit grounders.
He's not just like flaring out at the plate. He's
hitting the ball hard, it's just nothing's falling, nothing's going
his way. I mean, obviously last night the double play,
(25:59):
it's just it's been a it's been about as bad
of a start for Boom as as possible.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
Alec Boom is not as bad as he looks right now.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
No, I think we all know that this is not
the boom that that's that's truly Alc bo I mean
we saw the boom last year in the first half
that that is the best case scenario for Alec Bom.
I mean, he was he had a thousand ops last year.
First half he was, he was an All Star game starter.
(26:32):
This is not the boom that that is the real boom.
But unfortunately for the Phillies, this is the bowm that's
out there just about every other day. So as far
as replacements, Sos is the only one. There's not another
option right now that you can throw out there every
(26:52):
other day.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
I mean, you can.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Try Cody Clemens, but like I don't really want him
to play every day at third base, and no, so
says I would say, the only other option. I mean,
he's he's like one for his last nine I think so.
I think he's kind of starting to cool off a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Yeah, But I.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
Don't know, like what where do you start to draw
the line, Because if you went through a whole offseason
of saying no, we're not trading Bowm. We still want
him to be our third baseman. You can't draw the
line after twelve games. But at the same time, you
can't have a guy who has the fourth worst ops
(27:39):
and all baseball hitting either third or fourth in your lineup.
And obviously last night Rob moved him back, which was nice, But.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
It's it's one of those situations where baseball is tough
because when you get in a slump, everyone just continues
to say you suck, and the only way for them
to not say that is for you to just hit
your way out of it. There there's sports where I
think you need a night off. Baseball, I think there's
situations when you're in a slump the best thing to
(28:13):
do is to continue to hit through it. Giving Boone
three days off I don't think helps him.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
So it's it's it's.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
Really just one of those situations where you have to
hope he hits out of it.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
I mean, I think eventually he will.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
I don't think he's gonna hit I mean what he's
hitting one sixty right now. I don't think he's gonna
hit one sixty the whole year. But it's it's one
of those situations that you just have to hope he
gets out of it. That there's not really another sort
of option right now.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
Well it sucks, like.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yeah, it's us, but there's not much There's not much
else Rob can do. Like if you want Boem to
find his stride, you can't switch back and forth between
him and Sosa every other day because then it's just
the worst thing for a guy in the slump is
more inconsistency, Like you can't have him play on a
(29:11):
Monday and then be off Tuesday and then line up Wednesday,
off Thursday, not play Friday, play Sat. He needs to
be in there every day. But with that comes the
Phillies having a.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Hole in their lineup right now. Yeah, and that's the issue.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
And look, the concern is, you know, yeah, you get
this guy in there and he's still swinging for the
next four weeks and he hasn't found it, and you know,
he gets a hundred at bats and it's still a
buck sixty average.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
That's what I'll that's what I'll start to be really concerned,
and that we if we if we get to the
middle of May, Yeah, and he's still hitting one sixty,
then we have major issues.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Yeah, then then you definitely got to attack the trade deadline.
You can't.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
You know, this is this is too good of a
team to have a hole like that. So right now
this is your starting third basement. He played at one
hundred and forty three games last year, the expectations he's
going to do the same this year, if not more.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
And here we are, so we'll see what happens.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
But he's only played eleven games again, just struggling at
the dish, and it's just an automatic out. These guys
are their own worst enemies, as most struggling hitters are.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Right.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
If they're in their heads, they can't do anything right.
He just needs to get one ultimate slumpbuster, baby, you know,
go get yourself a gold pair of panties, strap them on,
do something whatever you gotta do, figure it out, all right.
So with that, once again, Phillies go down last night
to the braves just quickly on the bullpen. I know
(30:36):
that roll mano.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
Should we talk about Manno being back?
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Or what roll Meadow? Should we talk about him being back?
Or tell me you're telling me.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
He's pulling me back in Matt Strom to Matt Strommano.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
The velocity was back up.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
That was his issue.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
When you're a pitcher, especially a guy like him that
only throws two pitches, the second you lose your fastball velocity,
you lose everything else. Because if your fastball is not
sitting ninety six like it usually does, then your slider
that usually sits eighty three. That's when you go from
a thirteen mile a hour difference to a six mile
(31:19):
hour difference. So that's that's the big reason why he
was strugglingly and last night he topped out a ninety seven.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
He averaged around ninety six. He did say after.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
The game that they believe they saw a mechanical issue.
So that is uh, that is nice. That is nice
to see. I'm because that's big, man. That like that
is insanely big for this team. If if you can
get that that Romana that you traded for or sort
(31:52):
of signed, sorry, that is the move. Like that is
what they need because obviously, I think you know what
you're getting from strom you know what you're going from Kirkering,
you know what you're getting most of the time from Alvarado,
who's had a really awesome beginning of his year. But
that that last sort of high leverage guy like I like,
(32:14):
I like Jose ruiz I, but he's not a guy
I want in the eighth inning of a playoff game.
Jordan Romano is going to have to be in the
eighth inning of a playoff game. So seeing that velocity
back is is really nice because there was a lot
of people that wanted to call the guy cooked after
five games, have a lot of receipts, but it's early, man,
(32:37):
he's he's off his shoulders, he's he's he's off of
elbow surgery. Like it's five games into a season and
we're sitting here calling a guy cooked.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
Like listen, I I.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
I know what what city we root for, and I
know where we're at, but sometimes you need to just
take a little bit of a step back. Five games
into a new team, on a new contract, in a
new city, in a new stadium, the guy needs a
little bit of a time.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
He needs some time.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
So last night was very encouraging, And I hope that's
the Romanta that sticks, because last night was the good Roman.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Again, it's only been a couple times being out there,
but like it doesn't have a it didn't have a
Kimberrel feel to it right where Kimberrell was.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Kimberll was concerning immediately for me. But even then, like it's.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
Just such a people forget Kimberll didn't blow a save till.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
June. That's true too.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
You're right, it's awesome to start the year.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
He just hit the dead arm. That's the case where
the Phillies used him so much. He was so good
just he just hit dead arm and absolutely lost it
that year. But yeah, I mean, this is like, this
is so so big for them if if they truly
get that Romano back. And I'm not saying he's prime
(33:58):
twenty twenty one or no Matto yet because he's not.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
But that was his best outing is affiliate.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Last night.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Because the cleanestes looked. It's it's it's the hardest he's thrown.
So now it's it's big to have those four big
relievers because you need four at least and and and
you know this is how baseball works. I I guarantee
you one of those four relievers will be on the
injured list at some point this week this year. It's
(34:30):
it's it's just how the game works, especially witchers. No
teams pitching staff gets through the year one hundred percent
healthy all year, So being able to have four guys
at the top is is really is really big right now,
especially heading into this Cardinal series.
Speaker 4 (34:47):
Who Saint Louis has actually been playing fairly well.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
They they haven't you know that that that's an odd division,
but they've lost their last few I mean, yes, they
got off to a hot start. They've lost I believe
three out of their last or seven out of their
last ten. They looked really good the first series. They've
definitely cooled off a little bit. But yeah, this is
(35:15):
a big weekend because now you want to see him
do it again because last night was was nice. But
if you see him go out last night and and
and hit ninety seven, ninety seven and a half, and
then he comes out tonight and lays a ninety two,
then we're right back to square one. So just getting
(35:36):
that consistency down that that.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
That's what it is for the bullpen.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
It was the same issue with Strom I would say
early too. His velocity wasn't really there early, but he's
sort of finding it again.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
All right.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
So again last night, Phil's take a loss, first series
loss of the season to the Atlanta Braves.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Oh well, rolling on, no sleep, no red for the wicked.
Take a late night flight, man, Yeah, that's brutal. That
was probably a two point thirty probably flight Saint Louis
from Atlanta, Saint Louis, Roland six am. Got to get
the body going.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
And here we are tonight, once again getting the odds
for DraftKings Sportsbook. Here and you are looking at the
fight ins in Saint Louis.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
Currently here on.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
DraftKings Sportsbook listed as a minus one fifteen road favorite.
Where Nola on the mound, Andre Polante on the mound
for the Cardinals. Don't know much about him, we can
read on as far as his box score.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Luke can break it that a little bit more.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
But Aaron Nola's light favorite on the road, No issues
with that. Will the film's come with the victory against
the Cardinals, So that's the question.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
Uh Yeah, I think they should.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
This is a team that they should be.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
I think this is a nice sort of fresh start
for our Nola. I think it was obviously a rough
first few starts, even though I don't think his second
one was really that rough. A lot of people just
I don't want to go on this Aaron Nola rant
right now, so I'm not gonna do that, but this
is a good spot for them. Andre Plonte not anything special.
(37:17):
I mean he's been with the Cardinals for the last
few years. He's kind of went back and forth as far.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
As reliever starter. He was mainly starter last year.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
He actually had a pretty solidish year last year here
I under four and twenty nine appearances. But I mean,
he's not anything special. This should be a night where
the Phillies should hit pretty well. They've been hitting righties
well to start the year, which is nice. So yeah,
(37:45):
I mean this should should be a win the night.
And it is a pretty nice number, I would say
for the Phillies. That's I thought they would be a
little more favorite, honestly. So yeah, I like just the
Phillies on the money line.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
I think it's.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
A nice sort of sort of number. With Nola in
the mound, I obviously think I think maybe you look
at a first five, first five under, I think the
guys will be.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
Maybe a little groggy to start the game yea flight.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
Luckily for them, it's it's not like a six forty
five start. It's an eight to fifteen h Actually, well,
I guess that's the time change kicking in.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
But there we go.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
Time change is my enemy. Yeah, should be a win.
Should be a win for them to night out. I
like them on the money, all right.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Yeah, And it's fifty four degrees out there in Saint
Louis as far as the weather is concerned. Is something
to keep an eye on. Again, Schreber's making a hot
bad I would keep an eye on him. Uh, possibly,
you know, to keep it going. Other than that though,
don't really have much free as far as players in
the lineup that I would be firing on this point
in time. He can't bank on bom fingering out. As
(38:55):
I said, with the tray. Maybe you can look at.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
I would not be laying them on on out Boum
right now.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
No, definitely not. Schober's the guy. Schwarber is the guy.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
All right.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
Let's go ahead and keep it moving.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
From the world to baseball, let's get on over to
the world of golf and again masters front and center
for us.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Pretty interesting leaderboard as we're rolling into the weekend. Here.
First of all, shout out Rory for bouncing back in
a big way. Man.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
He had it going yesterday and it all fell apart
with double bogie.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
I believe on sixteen or fifteen whatever it was.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Everybody was counting him out, and then he went out
there today and shot a sixty six.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
He's now six under bogie free round.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
He is at the top of the leaderboard or one
of the top names at the on the leaderboard at
this point in time. Rose shot a seventy one today,
eight under. Bryson went out there, Bryson. Yeah, big day
for Bryson, chipping into the bumper.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
I will say they.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
So earlier this morning they said that as the day
was gonna go on, they said the course was actually
gonna start playing harder. Seems like it's been honestly playing
easier for these guys. There's not as much rain as
they thought was coming through. I don't know if it's
raining right now, but yeah, a huge back nine for Rory,
(40:10):
just one under on the front, but then ten eleven,
so he went he five under on the back, Yeah,
five under with an eagle there on thirteen.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
That was awesome, dude.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
I don't know if you saw his approach on thirteen
out of the pine strawl of like ten feet for eat, dude,
that was so sick, so good. Uh yeah, really big
day for Bryson. He's four under today. Who else Deci's
four under today, He's getting into the mix. Lude vig
Oldberg's won over today Fleetwood four under today.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
Don't sleep but my guy Shane Lowry.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
Oh, I think I actually do have a Shane ticket.
He's four under today.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Yeah, I got a forty one Shane ticket to win it.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
Yeah I am.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
I will say I my ox Say ticket. Rough day
for him. I'm still as far as top. I'm holding
on to Scottie and I do have a Hideki ticket
as well. All my other guys are just flyers. I
will say, big day for me. My number one guy
(41:18):
for forever has been Max Homa's been a rough last
six seven months for him. He changed just about every
single thing. He changed his sponsors, he changed his clubs,
he changed his caddy, he changed his swing coach.
Speaker 4 (41:33):
It's been really bad.
Speaker 1 (41:35):
He hasn't made a cut in an event that has
a cut since the Open last year. He shot two
under today to make the cut, so he's playing for
the weekend. That was nice to see, but yeah, I
mean the big story. Today's rory after obviously just an
abysmal day or not even day yesterday.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Yeah, it was an abysmal last four holes.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
I think he went bogey bogie and then he had
a double in there.
Speaker 4 (42:01):
He obviously went into the water on fifteen.
Speaker 1 (42:04):
So we are set up for an awesome weekend. There's
so many big names, and I mean even like the
top twenty. If you look at every guy that's in
like six shots of the lead right now, there is
a lot of notable names in that right now.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
No, as we just covered the leaderboard again, golfer still
out there.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
This is airing at five o'clock.
Speaker 3 (42:25):
So of course at this point in time, Scotty Scheffler
is the big one that's still out there. And when
we're live now, he's on whole seventies five under. He's
grooving it, he's plutting well, so he's gonna be tough, tough,
tough to hold off.
Speaker 1 (42:40):
But I didn't act with myself as well, and I
have to go pull it up to see what it's
at right now.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
But if Scotty gets.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
To at any point in this tournament gets to over
plus three hundred, I'm laying.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
The hammer down. He's plus two twenty five right now.
Speaker 1 (42:56):
Yeah, if he somehow finds his way into the three.
I don't think he will. I think the hammer's gonna
have to go down on that one.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
Well, I'll tell you what if Rory comes back to
win this, man, there's gonna be a lot of people
deleting some tweets, man, a lot of content creators need
to eat a bunch of words that they were putting
out there yesterday because everybody was pooring dirt on Macelroy.
But big time bounce back spot and it's gonna be
a lot of fun this weekend to talk about it all,
of course, focusing on the Masters, but Phillies and Cardinals
(43:27):
tonight we'll see what happens. And that one final thoughts
before we get out of here. Luke, always great to
get you on here on a feel good Friday.
Speaker 4 (43:34):
Yes, sir, I'm gonna roll with another shore bomb the night.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Nice he is.
Speaker 1 (43:38):
He's hitting five hundred against this. You just say plus
six fifty. I saw somebody on my time like shot,
no chance if it's plus six fifty that the hammer's
going down there too.
Speaker 2 (43:52):
There's no shot he's plus fifty. I could have sworn this, dude.
Speaker 1 (43:56):
I haven't seen a number I haven't seen a number
like Swarber. All right, I see him at plus four hundred.
Still pretty nice for Schwarber.
Speaker 2 (44:06):
Yeah, plus four twenty five. Hang out, where is this
stud at? But go ahead?
Speaker 3 (44:11):
Yeah, plus four twenty five is a nice number as well,
especially six man, nice all that.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
At some point I have to dig it up. Who
I saw in my timeline was Tom? That's who it was. Tom.
Speaker 3 (44:26):
Tom's a big time better. As far as the home
run place, yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
Yeah, I do have one in their time. If we
want to get this on record for when it hits
five dollars to win fifteen and ninety one dollars.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
Kyle Schwarber plus six fifty to Homer tonight, Saint Louis,
I'm bet three six five.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
All right, I might have to go make my ca
all right. That's good, nice work there, all right, get
it on record? What do you got?
Speaker 1 (44:57):
Get it on record? Manny Machado, Brandon Lau and Vinny Hasquentino.
Oh royals. Uh, that comes out with a boost that
I had to plus thirty one thousand, seven hundred and
thirty seven five dollars to win sixteen hundred dollars. This
pays for the muffler. Yes, he pays for the muffler.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
We need new mufflers. Need new mufflers, me too. All right,
great stuff Ford towards.
Speaker 4 (45:25):
For the taxes that I owed that I never mind.
Uh well did the taxes that I owe a little
bit of that.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Yeah, that's always a fun time of year. You're right
about that. Awesome job, Luke.
