Julie to last night, JJ Reddick. Did he lose the
series for the LA Lakers? Lebron and Luca going home
and everybody wants somebody to beat up on right now,
and it seems like it's all on JJ Reddicks.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Is that fair or foul in your mind?
Speaker 4 (02:40):
No, it's not fair. I think maybe JJ Reddick has
handled some of it in an unlikable way. Uh so,
maybe that's why he's getting additional backlasher, unwarranted backlasher. I
don't I don't like give me a coach that would
have won the series for the Lakers. I would put
it that way, like, if you change coaches, are you
(03:02):
gonna win? Are you gonna win the series? No? I
think it was a combination of Look, that roster was
never put in place. They made a trade for the future.
They traded an aging Anthony Davis for a twenty five
year old Luka Doncic, and then attempted to build a
(03:22):
little bit around the new roster with the Mark Williams trade.
That gets mixed and then you know, none of that
rebuilding process got a chance to take place, so they
you can do. It can be both. It can be
a little bit of excuse making on the Lakers side
and a little bit of well, this wasn't a finished product.
And you know, the Wolves are a sixth seed, but
(03:45):
they had a bad start to the season. They came
on kind of late. And you'll remember there was a
point in time during the last postseason, a brief point
in time where the Minnesota Timberwolves were the favorites to
win it All during the postseason when they I think
when they were up to nothing on Denver, they were
favored slightly ahead of the Celtics. Like that's what this core.
(04:07):
And I know they made some changes with the Karl
Anthony Tawns deal, but like, that's what this core is
capable of. If you tell me that the Timberwolves are
gonna win the West, I would not blink at that.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Now we are an interesting spot speaking of last year
because of what the Pacers showed us. And it's tough
because I want to sit here and beat my chest
over the fact that the Innana Pacers aren't getting enough love,
and I think we could sit there and send it
same thing about the Timberwolves. Look at their ats, look
at their straight up record in the past two first
round series last year against the Suns and this year
(04:39):
against the Lakers eight and one. If I'm not mistaken,
I believe the numbers were so you know, like I
want to give these guys the credit and even more so.
But unfortunately, who's next? That's where it starts and ends.
And maybe for the Timberwolves it's a little easier than
the Pacers going up against the Calves. But where do
we stand on that conversation, because there's got to be
(04:59):
like we need the give them a little bit more credit.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
They deserve it. They you know, they smack down their opponents.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
The fact that the Pacers did what they did against
the Walking Bucks, I know that they were favored, but
there seemed to be a lot of people on the Bucks.
And then now the Tea Wolves, like, are we giving
them a shot against the Warriors? Do you have an
idea what that number would be as far as a
series price is concerned.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
If it's the.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Warriors question, I haven't thought about the price. I don't
know if I can fully come up with it on
the spot. But how do we think Minnesota compares to Houston.
Minnesota's got to be priced higher than Houston, so it's
shorter than the minus two hundred that Golden State was
(05:44):
against Houston, assuming they get through there. So I would
think it's priced pretty similar. I mean, the Lakers and
Warriors were priced similarly in futures markets coming in, So
I would think it's Minnesota a short dog like they
were against the Lakers, and I would have a lot
of interest in Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Both of them right now, real quick on this on
Draftings sportsbook to win the championship T Wolves plus seventeen hundred,
Warriors plus seventeen hundred.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Okay, yeah, so right, and the Wolves have advanced and
the Warriors haven't.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
That's true too.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Yeah, that tells you that the Warriors are power rated
slightly ahead of Minnesota, but given that they've advanced, they're
they're you know, equally priced right now. But that's a
good call out. So yeah, that makes me pretty confident
as we talk through this on the spot, I like
it that Minnesota would be roughly the same size underdog
that they were against the Lakers against uh, against Golden State, all.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Right, now, I did just officially court.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Though that's different because the Warriors are the seven seed
is a little bit of a role as well.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Wow, that is intriguing. Well, as I just poured dirt
on the Houston Rockets. That was another game last night
that took place, and it's now going out to the bay.
Do you think that's going seven or do you think
that's all roade essentially that the Warriors were content with
losing somewhat last night.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
They never want to lose a playoff game. I get it.
But you know they were laughing on the on the
on the bench.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
You know, it was all S and g's last night,
and then you know they got smoked. So maybe they're
saving a little bit for game six. Do you think
this is going seven in your mind?
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (07:19):
I loved the spot last night for the Rockets and
played them early in that game. Now, clearly, like you said,
Golden State was content packing that in and saying let's
get ready for a Game six that they probably treat
like a Game seven type of game at home. They're
already kind of treating it like a Game seven with
how they packed it in last game. So it's gonna
(07:40):
be tough with what we've seen in this series to
say that the Rockets are gonna find a way to
get that game on the road. I've got Houston plus
one and a half games that series spread, just get
me to seven. But I don't feel great about the
spot that they're in. It feels just Houston's a good team.
They feel a little too young, getting their feet wet.
(08:03):
One piece away. Jalen Green's been bad and I don't
think he's gonna be good on the road here. And
they again like they need that star like Anthony Edwards
type of player, and Jalen Green isn't that, and I
don't think he's good. I don't think he's gonna develop
to that. So it feels like they're one piece away.
(08:25):
It's tough to say Houston's gonna win that game, but
maybe they can surprise us. They match up very well.
It's gonna come down to the Warriors making shots.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
I don't know if you guys remember, but during the
Warriors championship run in twenty twenty two, in the second
round series, they played the Grizzlies and game and the
Wars end up winning in six, but Game five, the
Warriors lost by like something almost forty points, and they
just completely packed it up and then they went back
home and won Game six, took care of that series
and six and ended up winning the championship. That game
(08:54):
felt like last night where Steve Kerr in the middle
of the third quarter was like, all right, we're gonna
call this one early, give some extra rests, We're going
back home, that we are going to treat like a
Game seven, because that is everything in that Game six,
and it kind of just felt like that to me.
So I'm not really concerned about that result at all,
and don't only have a problem with them quitting for
lack of a better term, like they did yesterday. But
(09:15):
I'm with Julian in the sense that this half court
offense for the Rockets has just been so disastrous. And
I get what they are from a physicality standpoint, defensive standpoint,
but their half court offense has been so bad. I
don't see a way the Warriors are losing Game six.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah, and Jalen.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Green was a guy I had my eyes down we
rolled out the prop yesterday. I took a shot at
twenty plus. I think you finished with eleven. Yeah, It's
just like, look if he shows up and balls out
like you did the one game, it's thirty eight in
game two. Yeah, but it's it's not inconsistent. Is even
the term I would use to describe him?
Speaker 2 (09:48):
All right?
Speaker 3 (09:49):
You know again, it's funny because it's like so many
good topics that we can continue to talk about that
took place yesterday, jj Reddick, Lebron, Luca going home? How
do you rebuild? But Julian, we got two. Game six
is tonight, so I'm curious. I'll leave it open ended
to you. You can go where anywhere you want. Will
we see either one of these series get closed out tonight?
(10:12):
Or do you think we'll see a couple of game sevens?
Where are you at on this one?
Speaker 4 (10:17):
I do think the Knicks close out. I took the
next plus one and a half on the road, great
win in Game five with their backs against the wall
by the Pistons. I had over five and a half
games in the series which has now cashed. That would
have been a tough loss if the Knicks win a
nail bier in Game five because this has been a
(10:37):
super competitive series, so you know, it feels like it
should be going deep and now has everybody seems to
love Detroit now with the momentum going back home, unbelievably.
The Pistons have not won a home playoff game since
Game four of the two thousand and eight Eastern Conference Finals, unbelievably,
(11:00):
which is nuts against the Celtics. Celtics then won Game
five at home and clinch the series Game six in
Detroit to go to the NBA Finals. That's wild, not
that it has anything to do with tonight. The Pistons
can certainly win a game as as a favorite at home.
I just kind of I'm buying into the back and
(11:20):
forth of this series. Every game has been close, so
late game execution is going to be huge. Even the
one that the Knicks won by double digits, they needed
a big comeback to get it there. It was a
close game, so I took the point in a half
with the Knicks. I think it'll be another nail bier,
and I'm trusting New York's kind of experience and grit
to get it over a Pistons team that is impressed.
Speaker 5 (11:42):
I love that we have Knicks Pistons, and then Clippers
Nuggets pretty much every night, the last the last since
the series started, because these are my two favorite series,
So these are my favorite nights over the last week
and a half of watching Nicks Pistons right into Nuggets Clippers.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
You're watching Chris Como last night, come on, Well that
was in between.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
I was watching Chris Cuomo because that was the fourth
of the worst game.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
I told you, I was on the c W fil
What's News Nation is there is? There is their network.
They had, they had, they had trump on and Stephen A.
Smith and Chris Cuomo Trump it was. It was the third.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
It was once they sabbed everyone out in the warriorst game,
I was like, I'm moving on, give me some break
before before the Lakers Wolves game.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
So that was that was my little politics.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
But to my point is that we have Nick's Pistons
and then Nuggets Clippers, which are my two favorite series.
I've been of the mindset that the Clippers are winning
this in seven. I have that, and I haven't waivered
one bit, even after the last two games of the
Nuggets one. Where are you on tonight's matchup between the
Nuggets and the Clippers Clippers six and a half point favorites.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
Yeah. I really liked the Clippers last game and was
dead wrong on that. I thought they would respond from
the the Aaron Gordon dunk Uh, you're right. This is
the other you know, outside of Nick's Pistons for competitive series,
and I like the way the Clippers match up against Denver. Now,
(13:09):
if Jamal Murray is gonna go for forty, then they're
gonna have a tough time Kawhi Leonard and James Harden,
specifically Kawhi. They'll need to get back to what they
were doing more early in the series. We don't want
to see another Kawhi postseason flame out, which is how
every postseason has seemed to end for the Clippers. So
(13:29):
I'm gonna buy into them as big favorites here at home.
And I do think the home court advantage is something
for the Clippers in this series, even though it ended
poorly in Game four. So it's a big no. It's
a big number though, but I think the last time
we talked about this, we talked about how big the
number was Game two and the Clippers dominated. So I
(13:51):
don't mind laying it with the Clippers. I haven't gotten
there yet. I would love to use them as a
money line parlay leg I would like to say, look
at them on the double result minus one forty to
lead at half and win the game. But they've been
coming out with these poor starts and having to come back.
I don't know if I can go there either, So
it's Clippers for me. I just haven't quite figured out
how yet.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Why is that number what it is? You just brought
it up.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
And it went down I think last night five and
a half back to six and a half, Like is
that you know, like these have been really good games.
I know that we saw a fifteen point victory last game,
but you know, Denver went on the road and won
in La at the buzzer, these have been really competitive
spots in a game.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Six.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
I just feel like six and a half that's a
lot of points. Any idea why we're seeing that? Were
you surprised by that number?
Speaker 4 (14:36):
No, it's just it's the power rated numbers. And then
at a point at certain times for desperation, the Knicks
were six and a half seven every game at MSG.
Now you come off back to back like one two
point home losses and now it's five and a half.
That's your point of one point for desperation for the
(14:57):
Pistons last night. Now it's kind of the same thing,
like should this be five and a half? Six? Sure?
But Clippers are in desperation mode at home for their season.
So you're gonna you're gonna pay a little tax there now,
doesn't mean the tax is always right. The tax was
there last night on Houston, it was right. Taxes there
last night on the Lakers it was wrong. It doesn't
(15:18):
mean anything. It's just how it works these days when
you're making numbers in the NBA. So I wouldn't waiver, like,
if you like the Clippers five and a half, you
should like them six and a half. It's I mean
tough if it lents six. But that's just kind of
how the numbers work when you get later in the
series in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
All right, And as Julian said, right now DraftKings Sportsbook,
we already went over to numbers. Pistons a point and a
half favorite. That's your first game at seven thirty five,
ten oh five PM. Clippers six and a half, two
eleven and a half is our total in that one.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Just to let you know.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Tomorrow night at nine oh five, we got that game
six in the Bay five point spread. Warriors are favored
right now to oh four is our total in that one.
But I want to skip that because we jabbed at it.
Let's talk about the one series coming up that we
do have numbers on. It's between the Pacers and the Calves.
This is a great one for you because you know
how good the calves are. Well, the Pacers give them
(16:12):
a run. And again, I you know, you made it
sound real easy, and I understand you're right with what
your with your terminology and how they come up with
these numbers.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
But like, are we fair?
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Is it fair to say that the Pacers are being
massively disrespected? It feels like the odds makers are giving
them no shot.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Yeah, a little bigger than I thought. I knew it
would be big. These numbers always come out with the
elite teams and kind of surprise you, like, wow, look
how big a favorites they are. I'm I've grown accustomed
to it. Here with the Celtics coming out, Like what's
the first round gonna be against Orlando, I'm like, I
don't know, minus three four thousand, it comes out six
eight thousand. It's like, well, I don't know, I mean,
(16:52):
what's the difference. Who's laying that? Anyway? But like a
series like this should get more competitive, and yeah, I
thought it would be maybe Calves like minus three point
fifty four hundred and it came out five little steep
like I said, like, does it make me think the
Pacers have a better chance to win the series?
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Like?
Speaker 4 (17:11):
No, So I don't want to get roped into backing
the Pacers because I'm getting a better number than I anticipated. However,
when we get numbers that you say are maybe off
on a series, okay, now the series spread might be
off in something that you can interest me in. So
last I looked Pacers getting two and a half games
(17:34):
and order the series to go over five and a
half games is like minus one forty range. I think
this will be competitive, just kind of same analysis as
Nicks Pistons that we talked about a couple of weeks ago.
I don't think this is a five game series. Pacers
have had success in the regular season against Cleveland. It's
not all equal, of course, the regular season games the
guys are in and out. The Cavs had the one
(17:56):
seed locked up forever ago and could check out for
some of those games. It's not apples to apples, but uh,
indies playing well and I'm gonna give them the benefit
of the doubt that they can get two games here.
So I'm good with Pacers plus two and a half games.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
I actually fired already on a Calves four to two
plus four fifty. I believe the number I got was
it for Calves twin four to two. I could see
them taking care of it. You know, I'm pretty confident
Cleveland team. I could see them taking care of it
in five. But with Julian, where I could? I think
the pit pay Pacers get two. So I took Calves
four to two plus four to fifty.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Well, Julian, I know, you know we're thinking two about
the Boston Celtics. One thing that I was floating yesterday
and it already proved to be true, is that that
Cavaliers number came down to win the East. The Boston
Celtics were as high as I think it's minus. Am
I wrong in that minus one sixty?
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Yesterday?
Speaker 3 (18:50):
I thought the Calves were a two plus two twenty
to win the East. They're now plus one seventy to
win the East on DraftKings Boston minus one forty. So
you know, look, I threw this out there, Yes, I said,
I don't think you'll get a better price. Of course,
if the Caves in Boston Eastern Conference finals you're not
going to get a better price than that, so you
need to hop on the calves. There was I correct
(19:11):
with that thought process in your mind.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Yeah, I mean this has kind of been the price
on the Celtics for a month or so. Now it's
nice that it keeps sitting there because you can make
sure that nobody gets seriously injured and get back in
like it's the same. You know, they just want a series,
and I think it was one forty five before and
now it's one forty on the Celtics. You want a
series and you're down five cents in terms of your
(19:36):
number to win the conference. I'm sticking with the Celtics,
so you know, I've got all that I need on that.
But if you're looking to get in more, go ahead
and re up or get in for the first time. Yeah.
I think that Indie is going to be a far
tougher test for Cleveland than potentially the Knicks would be
for the Celtics. Yeah. I do think Orlando just matchup wise,
(19:59):
and they had so many has missed so many games,
like that's not a true seventh seed in my mind.
That's where they were last year playing Cleveland in the
first round. I think in that four to five, like
Orlando's a three four five in the East and matches
up well with the Celtics. They have going back three
four years now, so I think the Celtics had a
tougher time with Orlando than they will with a Detroit
(20:19):
or New York series. I'm not saying that means a
sweep because this team always seems to drop a game
the Celtics that is, So it'll be Celtics in five
for me kind of regardless of opponent, would be my
projection there. If it is the Knicks, one of my
bigger bets of the postseason will be Celtics minus two
and a half games, assuming I can get that. That
(20:42):
wasn't really a number you could bet against Orlando against
the Knicks. I assume it will. But looking at it
like if Cleveland, if if you know, the Cleveland number
I think is plus one twenty or whatever on laying
two and a half games. If I can get the
Celtics in like the minus one forty neighborhood laying two
and a half games, I'm I'm good with that. That's
what I'm looking ahead to. I guess see how tonight goes.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Yeah, we had some people in here talking about a
sweep of the Boss of Celtics.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Over the Knicks.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Yeah, we all owe that was.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Yeah, they do.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
They own the Knicks. They had that game late in
the season that Jalen Brown started sitting out that went
into overtime that the Celtics eventually won. But the other
ones were they got smoked, and a lot of it
comes down to three point shoot Like one thing Orlando
did really well. The fewest threes the Celtics attempted in
the regular season was thirty three. Of course it happened
to be against Orlando. Orlando didn't allow them to take
(21:35):
threes in this series. They had three games where they
took under thirty three. I think it was two. Others
were thirty seven. So like, they don't let them do that.
You look at the numbers against the Knicks. I should
have pulled these up, but it's like twenty nine for
sixty one from Downtown that was the season opener when
they went bonkers. But the other ones are all like
seventeen for forty four, nineteen for forty nine type of games.
(21:55):
Like if they're gonna let them bomb away and get
quality volume. Look, that's not gonna.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
Go well for the names, and the Magic can load
up on shooters and take away the three point line
because they have such great, big, athletic one on one
individual defenders, defenders the Knicks absolutely do not have that.
I mean, we know what Michael and Og are on
the wing, but from one through five they just don't
have that personnel defensively that the Magic have. Plus, the
Knicks are also had to go back to Detroit, assuming
(22:22):
which I think they will take care of business tonight
after playing a really physical, tough series where a lot
of guys were in and out with injuries, at least
in and out of games with Chanleen Brunson's left every
game almost it seems like, with an injury. So it's
just gonna be really tough for them against Boston.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
All right, quickly on this, Julian, Once again people are
just tuning in. We'll be giving away those tickets for
just a second here, But Julian, your favorite play for
tonight two game six is, once again, if you had
to pick one for a listening audience, your favorite play
tonight is what.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
Yeah, I don't quite know how to back the Clippers yet,
So the one that I have put in and put
out is Nicks plus one and a half. Again, it's
been a zigzag series to go against the grain type
of series. Uh, and I think that I think that continues.
I think the Knicks with their backs against the wall
are not the Knicks without their backs against the wall.
When everybody thinks that Detroit needs to get the home game,
(23:12):
is where it kind of goes the other way. And uh,
it would be big for the Knicks as well. The
series is set in Stone. Game one in Boston is
Monday night, whether this series goes six or seven games,
So the Knicks, like the brunts and injuries, could could
use that rest. Yeah, you know as much as anyone.
Now the Celtics are gonna go from playing on Tuesday
(23:33):
to Monday. They need that rest as well. So it's
not like you're at too much of an advantage because
you're gonna be getting a Celtics team with six days off.
Yeah that's a little dinged up, but still nonetheless they
could use the rest.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
All Right, anytime I need something in the Boston sports world,
I go right to Julian and I have just one
quick one for you. And I know this is gonna
be really uncomfortable, but we're going I have to ask
you what is going on with Bill Belichick?
Speaker 4 (23:57):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Do you have a anyone? Do you have a guess?
Speaker 4 (24:02):
I don't think it's I think this is really turned
into a bleepstorm. I don't think it's like quite as
bad as it's probably being projected now, probably where he's
like this old senile man and he's just behind the
