Speaker 1 (00:04):
Daily Take it with you here live Sean bra Ashah
Banard Larry Henry j is gonna join us in just
a second.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Breaking news if you missed it.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Oklahoma stud quarterback Jamtier, the Heisman Trophy favorite after four
weeks of action in college football, is out for at
least the next month plus. He's getting surgery on his
right throwing hand for a broken bone that he suffered
get this in the first quarter against Auburn. He's a

(00:36):
tough SOB man. I don't don't know what his you know,
like what it looks like as far as the next
level is concerned.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
But I do like his swagger.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
I do like his athleticism, and he's built it up
now with two spots, so that's something to be said
about that. I would imagine somebody would take a shot at.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Him as far as the draft is concern Sean.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, I didn't go get a chance for sure, but
this is one of those injuries that could change like
the trajectory of his career if he's not careful there. Obviously,
he got up to such a strong start to the
season here, it sounds like roughly a month is the
expected timeline based on the broken hand.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
The information we know to this point.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
If he's able to pick things up right where he
left off and lead this Oklahoma team and like a
legitimate college football playoff push, there's you know, everything is
still for the taking there, but that is easier said
than done, so I guess just bookmarket for now.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
All right, joining us right now.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
It's always great to have Larry Henry Junior join us
on the party at the Daily Ticket. Getting caught up
in the world of Philadelphia Union, all things English Premier League,
and Larry has a substack slash blog on the Philadelphia Eagles.
You could find Larry at El Henry zero one to nine.
He's a man with work at many outlets including the

(01:46):
athletic so on and so forth. Always great to have
you on the show, Larry. The Philadelphia Union found a
way to win a game on Saturday. Only a couple
games left in the MLS regular season. Catch us up here.
What are we looking at right now with the Union
as they are still on top of the East.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
Yeah, good to be back with you guys.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
As always, Philadelphia Union going down to the final stretch here.
One nothing win over the New England Revolution this past weekend,
which was a needed win after the seven nothing shell
acking that they got from the Vancouver white Caps two
weeks ago and then the open couple loss that they

(02:27):
suffered at Nashville See in midweek, so it was important
for them to get back on track. They did against
a struggling New England team. They have three matches left
and really the Supporter Shield is in their hands. They
just have to hope that they cannot drop any points
of these last three games. Coming up this weekend, they

(02:47):
have DC United away, would expect the Union to get
three points there. DC has had a really hard season,
fired a lot at the front office recently, and then
they have ny CFC at home. That'll be a tough game.
Ny CFC has had a really good season. Uh. And
then the international break comes in in October, and then

(03:10):
they close out the season at Charlotte FC, who's already
clinched the playoff spot and is actually not too far
behind the Union UH in the East standings.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
The other thing for.

Speaker 5 (03:19):
The Union is inner Miami has a couple of matches
in hand and could potentially steal the Supporters Shield if
they win out and win all six of their matches.
They have six matches left. Phil Philip Philadelphia only has three.
Miami has a game midweek. They also have a game
over the international break, which isn't really easy to do

(03:40):
when a lot of your star players like Leo Messi
and others are gonna likely be on international duty. But overall,
I think the Union can get it done. They just
have to, like I said, avoid the hiccups and keep
playing the soccer that they played all season.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Currently, the Union are fourth on the odds board here
at DraftKings Sportsbook inter Miami plus five to fifty, Vancouver
six to one, San Diego have C seven to one,
and then the Union eight to one. Yeah, Larry, the
Vancouver game was very surprising, and it is from a
guy that hasn't been paying that much great attention.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
To the full league.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Vancouver pretty darn good team, obviously second as far as
the favorites are concerned. But seventh to nothing, What the
hell happened there?

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Yeah? It was. It was definitely shocking.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
A Philippi Union not a performance that we're used to
this season under Bradley Carnell. I know they rotated the
squad pretty heavily in that match, with the Open Cup
semi final only a few days later, and sometimes that's
the risky take. You you rotate the squad and look
at the Cup semi final. Unfortunately they rotated, they got
a beat down from the white Caps, who, like you said,

(04:44):
is a very good team. Thomas Mueller had a hat
trick on his birthday. And then they bring the full
squad back against Nashville and ultimately lose that game as well,
which you know rules them out of that competition. Uh
Nashville heading to the final in that competition, and so yeah,
I mean it's a risky taake. It was definitely disappointing
to see. It was the worst loss in franchise history.

(05:06):
And Sean, you know, I mean that this team's been
around for a while now, So yeah, it was disappointing
to see. But like I said, glad they were able
to get back on track, get a clean sheet win
against New England, a team that they should be beating,
and then hopefully another win this weekend against a DC
United squad that probably wants the season to end at
this point with the struggles.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
That they've had.

Speaker 5 (05:27):
But overall, I don't see the Union slipping up in
these next three matches.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
But you never know, You never know what can happen
at MLS.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
So if the Union handled business over these next three games,
they will win the Supporter Shield, which will be the
best record in the MLS.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Is that correct?

Speaker 5 (05:44):
Technically, if if they went out in their three matches,
they'll finish with sixty nine points.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
They have to they need.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
They need Miami to slip up as well. Miami has
six matches, so right now Miami's at fifty two. If
Miami win, that's eighteen points right there, and you know
they'll have they'll have seventy points, which would be one
point higher than the Union.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
All right.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
As always with the MLS, Larry, it's very similar, in
my opinion, to like Major League Baseball, where it's not
always the best team that wins.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
We've seen that last year with the Dodgers. There have
been plenty of times that it's happened. But if you
look in the past few seasons, like the Nationals going
on the run that they did, the Diamondbacks having the
success that they had, of course the Rangers. You know,
we can go down the list of previous champions and
teams that made the World Series, and it's very similar
in the MLS. The playoffs for my money for my

(06:42):
take here. So teams that might not be at the
top of the list, like San Diego or Vancouver. Who's
a team from the West that you are like, man,
that's a true sleeping giant. Watch out. They could make
a run once the playoffs come around here.

Speaker 5 (06:56):
Yeah, the first team you mentioned, San Diego FC, the
expansion team. They've done exceptionally well in their first season.
We've seen expansion teams do that in the past couple
of years in MLS. San Diego right now first in
the Western Conference with fifty seven points a plus eighteen
goal differential. Mikey Varis has really assembled a really good team.

(07:17):
Andre Streyer, who is up for the MVP. He's definitely
got my vote. Fifteen goals, sixteen assists this season for
San Diego.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
And you know, the.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
Players that they've been able to bring in are not
a lot of stars. Yes they have Anders Dryer, yes
they have Herving Lozano, but they bring in some good
supplementary players like Luca dale tore with the US men's
national team. They bring in Patty McNair who has a
boatload of experience playing in England. CJ Do Santos, who
is a former US youth national team player, So there's

(07:50):
not too many stars on this team, but they've done
really well. They've played kind of defensive first and then
they've been able to just really score at will at times.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
I think Sandy Go is.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
Definitely a team to watch come playoff time. It doesn't
seem like anything phases them. They've already beaten you know,
the likes of you know, Minnesota United and l A
FC this season, so overall, I think that's a team
to watch. Another team to watch I think would be
FC Cincinnati. They've they've had a really good road record
this season in terms of having thirty two points one

(08:23):
on the road, so that's two points a game, you know,
the best word record in the league, and have given
the Union some trouble not only this season but in
the past. So those are two teams definitely keep an
eye on. Obviously, I think you can never count out
of a team like l A f C with with
some young men making the move from Tottenham earlier this
year and scoring a boatload of goals already, and Dennis

(08:44):
Bwanga is is obviously up for I think an MVP
as well.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Larry Henry Jr.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Joining us to talk about the beautiful game of soccer
here and let's go ahead and shift gears and get
on over to the EPL man Liverpool. Yeah, they get
rid of Clop. Clop moves on and it's like what
they don't miss a beat, Like what in the hell?
And you're looking at my team United as I always
try to bring up Manchester tonight, there's a chance that

(09:09):
they're going to fire this new coach and it's like,
I'm not even trying to learn anything.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
About these new coaches anymore.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
They come in, they need to win like a lot,
and then I'll start to learn a little bit more
about these guys. But how did they figure out to
move on to the next coach slot with that ease
and of course picking up right where they left off.
How great of a manager Klop was. They're at the
top of the table right now. I actually watched Liverpool
over the weekend. That's a fun team to watch again.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
Yeah, for sure, they've just continued to just keep on
chugging along in competitions. They've really kind of showed what
teams like maybe even Manchester City did in the past,
where they just find ways to win. Yes, obviously, having
a stack roster like they do helps, and the fact
that you have to maybe rotate players in the Chanceapions League,

(10:00):
in the League Cup and so forth.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
But just the unity they have is.

Speaker 5 (10:06):
Really cool to see that never say die attitude.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
I know.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
It was last week in the Champions League, up to
nothing against Athletico Madrid. Athletic would come back and tie
it to two and then Virgil van Dyke wins it
in a ninety second minute. They had a ninety fifth
minute penalty kick in the Premier League about two weeks
ago against Burnley that Mohammed Salas scored.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
It's a clutch time.

Speaker 5 (10:28):
Basically, it's like those old Lebron James years in basketball
taking the game over and I think Liverpool has really
done that. And I think the squad overall, like I said,
bringing in big name players Alex e Zach from New
Newcastle and some others as well, Florine Verts from from
Bayer Leverkusen. But yeah, they've just continued. Everyone knows their

(10:51):
role in that team. I don't think they get too
disappointed if they're maybe dropped from the match at the
weekend because they know it matches comeing mid week in
the Champions League.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
So yeah, they continue to really.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
Just you know, like I said, chug along in the
league five wins plus six goal differential. I think they'll
have a tough time this weekend. They played Crystal Palace
in the League. Palace the only other unbeaten team so
far in this season's Premier League. But it should be
a really good match at Selhurst Park. But yeah, I
think Liverpool will get it done. And who knows, it's

(11:23):
a long season, but could they could go for a
while without losing a match, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Yeah, they got fifteen on top of the table, Arsenal,
Tottenham and Bournemouth in there at ten. Crystal Palace you
just brought up with nine, Chelsea in there with eight
as Manchester and I had found a way to win
a game that I actually tuned in. I haven't seen
them win a damn game in forever. It actually felt
good to turn that game on and win two to one.

(11:48):
All right, Larry again, you know twenty twenty six, right
around the corner.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
World Cup, World Cup? World Cup?

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Did see Kristin Polisik has a documentary style show on
Paramount on CBS.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Uh yesterday I saw that fix.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yeah, but I want to check that out because you know, look,
it's not for his lack of play on the field,
like he is living up to the expectation. And you know,
one of the things that caught my attention, and he
was saying, man, when when I'm done with this, I
want you to look back and say, Christian Pulisic changed
American soccer forever. First of all, Larry, has he And

(12:26):
is that a little strong for you or do you
think you know what?

Speaker 2 (12:28):
He's still a young dude.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
He's got plenty of time and oh, by the way,
no better time than right now with twenty twenty six
right around the corner.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
I think he's definitely changed American soccer. I mean, yes,
there was the guys before him, Clint Dempsey and Landon
Donovan and Tim Howard and and you know Steve Charundela.
These guys that played overseas and played a you know
some you know Donovan not as much, but guys like
Dempsey and Toronto played.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
A long time overseas.

Speaker 5 (12:53):
Kasey Keller, Tim Howard, I think's definitely changed American soccer
to be able to come through the ranks like he
has and really put you know us soccer.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Maybe back on the map again, you.

Speaker 5 (13:05):
Know, made his debut when he's he's seventeen years old
for the national team and now playing for some of
the biggest clubs in the world.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Playing pause you for a second. He literally just are
they playing right now?

Speaker 5 (13:17):
He scored today in Cope, Italia. Yeah, yeah, they're playing
right now. Well, it must have heard he must.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
Have heard you.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
It just the tweet is put out right now at
CBS Golotzo and he literally just scored right now, Like
Woun's pretty cool.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
I tweet. I tweeted it right before we got on.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
I didn't see the video of it, but uh, yeah,
he scored in Cope, Italia play coming off the bench.
He had two goals and assist over the weekend for
AC Milan. Yeah, he's definitely changed I think American soccer
because now all the young kids growing up that want
to play the sport, I think are gonna talk about
Christian Polistic and see that the route he's taken to

(13:56):
come from Hershey, Pennsylvania, to go overseas to play for
these big clubs, win a Champions League with Chelsea, to
to lift some other trophies as well. In Germany, and
in Italy playing the Champions League. I mean, it's awesome
for him. And like you said, he's, uh, he's not
old yet. He's I think in his prime right now,
being twenty six, you know, still has I think a

(14:17):
lot to offer and who he knew is maybe he
ends his career in MLS back home in Pennsylvania. But yeah,
I think he's definitely gonna change, uh change.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
I see that, I raids and I see it. I
know you want him to play for the SOFY in Pennsylvania.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
You say, huh, did Pittsburgh get a team?

Speaker 5 (14:37):
They might by then, who knows with how much the
MLS is expanding, But yeah, it's been.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
It's been great to see man. I think.

Speaker 5 (14:45):
I know Polistic has taken his knocks in the media
for for some of his uh you know, absences in
the national team and maybe some comments he's made, But overall,
I think when it's all said and done, he'll be
the best American player to represent the national team for
what he's done on the field and off the field
as well.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Larry, you are the best.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Always great to get the update of what's happening around
the world of soccer.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Of course, Larry does it all.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Be sure to give him a follow at El Henry
zero one nine has a great substack on all things
Eagles in the Birds and Es go itad and subscribe
to that. But when it comes to the beautiful game
of football, El Henry zero one nine is where I
go and we greatly appreciate a couple of minutes there.
We'll catch up next week. But again, everything that is
happening so fast for the Philadelphia Union, I can't believe

(15:29):
they're in this position right now, top of the table
in the East with three games to go, a lot
of fun to watch this season. But it's about winning
it all, man, That's what we need. That's what that's
the trophy that they're missing right now. So it'd be
great to see them accomplish it. Well, I know we'll
be all over it with you. Can't thank you enough, man,
We'll continue to follow you on all things socials. Always
a pleasure, sir.

Speaker 4 (15:49):
Thanks a lot, guys, appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Man.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
There he is the great Larry and read Jim Yeah
on the Gambler stream. All right, coming up in the
five o'clock hour, we got a lot to do. I'm
even gonna throw some NBA into the conversation in the
five o'clock hour. At the end you see Skinny's ion.
So I made a joke last night. I did a
hit on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, and they, you know,

(16:13):
they hit me up. Next thing, you know, they bring
up the Phillies after them, like boys, City of Winners.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
What I got to say right now, we got a
lot going on, And.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Of course the dude Calvin goes, wait a minute, man,
let's talk about the Sixers.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Then I'm like, do you have the beat? He's thin?

Speaker 1 (16:28):
And then Rob Parker said something on the lines of
Ozimpic is under the coverage now for the NBA athletes.
So yeah, Zion lost a lot of weight. That's not
going to help the Ozimpic claims out there.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Hey, anyway might help him, might help him, Like that's
been the Zion issue. So I you know, if you
gotta do what you gotta do, I'm not gonna hate
on that.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
No, never mind, maybe I need it. I can't stop
two twenty. I'm just locked at two twenty for the
last three years, four years of my life, probably more.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
But now I'm in the gym, I'm doing right. I'm
trying to eat better. I wouldn't have guess you're twenty.
That makes you feel better brand two twenty. Man, I've
been holding two twenty for years now. Wow, I wouldn't guess.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
You know, I appreciate it, but you know, it's all
in the belly. It's all on the belly. And I've
been trying to do Michel Vulture's you know, I'm doing
my part. I don't drink IPAs anymore, no coronas, it's
ultras or nothing.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
I'm in the opposite form right now. I'm trying to
gain weight, trying to put on something. Oh man, I
know what could help you in the midnight hour?

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Yeah, that always makes the You know, that's my issue
is I make the trip to the refrigerator in the
midnight exactly.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
All right to five o'clock hour.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Rolling on here once again, coming up on the other side,
another daily ticket debut. You've been looking forward to getting
this gentleman on for quite some time.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
We have Kyle Fisher that joins us. He has a
partner over at the Philadelphia Sports Network, Corey Nido, and
he'll be talking to little birds in Philly. He's a
big fan of what Corey is able to do over
there and again. They have a great roster of and
make sure you check out everything that they're pushing. But
we'll talk a little Eagles, get his thoughts as far
as what went wrong in the first half. Let's put

(18:07):
that to the side. Let's start focusing on the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, as the Birds are three and a half
point favorites on Sunday, we'll find out what Corey has
to say, and oh, by the way, Philly's conversation as well,
Big five o'clock hour more after this
