Today we are talking with Oleg Lougheed. Oleg has led an extraordinary life. He was born in Russia to parents who were not equipped to take care of him. Because of this, at a very young age he had to find ways to care for himself. When he was 9, his parent's rights were taken away. Oleg was sent to a Russian orphanage, which at first seemed like the ideal place. But soon after his arrival, he realized that his new home was not what it appeared to be. He suffered abuse until he was adopted by an American family from Michigan at the age of 12. Years later he started to document his experience in a blog post and after it was published, he realized that there were many people who had similar stories. Oleg is a Tedx speaker and the founder of the non-profit organization, Overcoming Odds, a community for people who have experienced a similar path, encouraging them to share their unique stories. His journey has taught him, among other things, resilience and he shares his message through his podcast, speaking engagements and workshops, helping people to be resilient in their own lives. Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero. Special thanks to series creator Dan McGinn, to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Adam Plumpton. Medal of Honor begins on May 28.
