(00:20):
And now your host, chrisAnderson.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Welcome back to
another recording of the Elevate
Media Podcast.
I'm Chris Anderson, your host, and today we're going to get
into an important subject thatwill help you for your podcast
if you're interviewing people, and that's how to successfully
bring guests on, find guests andbring them on to your show.
So first, in today's episode,I'm going to go over and
(00:48):
highlight and show you exactlyhow you can go about finding
guests to bring on your show, tointerview and to bring great
value to your audience.
So if you're a podcast host whointerviews people for your show
and you're having a little hardtime finding guests to bring on
, then this episode's for you.
So first, what we need to do isdefine who our ideal guest is.
(01:10):
You know what aligns them withyour show, what do they talk
about?
Will their topic help youraudience and bring value to your
audience?
You've got to be able to definewho's going to fit well for
your show before you just go outsearching for people to bring
on.
You want to know, obviously, what your audience needs, what
they're looking for, and thenwhat type of people fit that
(01:33):
mold that you can bring on toshare different topics,
perspective stories.
That's going to benefit youraudience in the long run.
So, for me, I'm looking forsuccessful individuals who have
built a six to seven to eightfigure business, who have been
in the trenches, started fromnothing, started from scratch
and built something reallyamazing and battled through all
(01:55):
the ups and downs that we haveto go through as we're building
our businesses.
You guys, you listening you arepeople who are just starting
out.
You're trying to get sometraction going.
You see what's possible and youhave big goals, but you're at
the start line or you've justgotten started, and so my guess
is to help you, to elevate youon your journey, same as what I
do on my solo ups.
So just all to benefit you andhelp you grow on your journeys
(02:19):
with video, podcasting, withyour online businesses, and so
that's what I've done.
I've understand who I'm helpingor who I'm trying to help, and
so what guests are going to comeon that are also going to be
able to help you?
Listening as well.
Once you understand who can fitas a guest, that's going to
bring value to your show.
That's going to help youraudience.
(02:41):
Next, you have to craft thatperfect pitch.
How are you going to approachthese possible guests to bring
them on your show?
So picture this you'veidentified somebody who aligns
perfectly with your show andyour audience, so now you have
to go and convince them thatyour show is the right platform
for their topic, for them to beon.
(03:03):
So how do you do that?
It all comes down on how youpitch yourself to them.
Your pitch should be like acaptivating movie trailer
someone you need to highlightthe best parts and get them
excited to actually want toshare.
You've got to remember thatthese potential guests are
interested in the value they canbring to your audience, but
(03:25):
also, are they a fit?
Are they going to be able togrow their audience through
being on your show as well?
So make sure to highlight howtheir expertise can solve
problems or inspire change orprovide new perspectives for
your audience, and then show thebenefits that they'll receive
from being featured, whetherthat's expanding their reach
because you have a big audience,or building more credibility,
(03:49):
or just connecting withlike-minded people in your
audience, depending on theirlevels and how far along they
are, you've got to show themwhat is in it for them as well.
So when you're reaching out tothese potential guests, you want
to make sure you personalizethat approach.
You don't want to just have ageneric copy and paste message
that you send to everyone, trying to just do quantity over
(04:11):
quality.
Now, I understand, at thebeginning that might be the
simplest thing, but you reallydo want to do some research on
the potential guest backgrounds, their achievements and what
they've done recently andmention that within your pitch
as to why they would be a goodfit for your audience.
When you add a personalizedtouch that demonstrates you have
(04:34):
a true interest in that guestand so it connects better and
increases the likelihood thatyou're going to have at least
have a positive response andthat relationship can be started
building.
If it's not, if it doesn't goright to being a guest.
So when you are formulating thispitch, when you are looking to
create your message for theseguest, potential guests, you
(04:55):
want to make sure your messageis concise, engaging and easy to
understand.
Start with a hook, somethingthat's going to really pique
their interest and get theminterested in reading more.
Then go into what makes yourpodcast unique, those selling
points You're the mission of theshow, your reach and the
engaged audience that's eager tohear their story and their
(05:17):
expertise and then you just wrapit all up with a call to action
.
Maybe it's inviting them to bea part of something special, or
maybe it's taking that next stepto scheduling, or maybe it's
just telling them to let youknow if they're interested.
But you've got to close it offso they know what to do next.
Now, when you're building outthis compelling pitch.
(05:38):
It takes time to hone yourskill and refine, but it pays
off in the end.
Remember, this pitch is areflection of your podcast brand
and your dedication todelivering value to your
audience.
So take the time to tailor eachmessage to these potential
guests and watch how you line upeven more guests and watch as
(06:03):
you continue to bring onremarkable guests because of it.
So where do we go to find theseguests?
You have an outline of a pitch, you have an idea of how you're
going to reach out to thesepeople, but where do you go?
The first place you want to gois your network.
Who are the people that you'realready connected with on social
media, through email, throughyour phone?
Your network is your net worth,as they say.
(06:25):
So those contacts, colleaguesand acquaintances you've met can
provide valuable insights intopotential guests who are a fit
for your podcast.
So you can tap into theexpertise and relationship
you've already built, so you cantap into the expertise and
relationships you've alreadybuilt to find those hidden gems
(06:46):
for your show.
You don't have to go and try topitch the Joe Rogan's or the
Grant Cardone's right out of thegate.
You have amazing people aroundyou already that would be eager
to be on your show.
You just have to reach out.
And when you reach out againand when you reach out again,
remember, reach out with respectand authenticity.
Again, make sure that messageis personalized to that person
(07:09):
so they feel special, for theydon't just feel like you're
copying and pasting something.
Again, explain your podcast, what it's about, why they'd be a
good fit, and try to show themhow it would benefit them as
well.
Continue to build on theseexisting relationships and the
likelihood of positive responsesyou're going to get will
increase and the more guestsyou're going to be able to have.
(07:31):
And then you want to continue tobuild rapport and trust.
Developing rapport is crucial.
Before making any requests, tryto engage in meaningful
conversations with thesecontacts, these individuals
you're trying to bring on yourshow.
Show genuine interest in whatthey've done and what they're
accomplishing, whether that becommenting on their social media
posts, interacting, fosteringmore engagement or just sending
(07:55):
a message telling them youappreciate what they're doing.
This approach not only fosterstrust, but it also enhances the
quality of recommendations youcan receive, because you're
going to be genuine, you'regoing to be adding value before
you're asking for anything, andso it sets a good precedent when
you're reaching out to newpeople who then you're going to
ask to be on your show.
And then this next one is a bigone and one that we really
(08:18):
utilize as well.
It's utilizing online platforms.
There are a number of placesonline you can go to find people
eager to be podcast guests, soyou've already cut down the
searching because they'relooking to be on shows.
So now you just have to showthe value of yours and why
they're a good fit and what's init for them.
You can start as simple asfinding Facebook groups that are
(08:39):
geared toward podcast guestingpeople looking to be on shows
and you can post in there andstart making connections.
You can look at other shows andwho they've interviewed and
then start building thatconnection with those guests
that they've had and try to showthem the value of coming on
your show as well.
And then these are some of ourfavorite things to use right now
(09:00):
are a couple online resourcescalled Guestio, created by
Travis Chappelle, who's actuallya guest on our show, where you
can go on and connect withpotential guests, pitch your
show and then get the guestsscheduled.
And then there's Podmatch, which is another amazing online
platform to find guests for yourpodcast.
That was created by AlexSanfilippo, who's doing amazing
(09:21):
things over there as well, andthose two platforms right there
have a vast variety ofindividuals looking to be on
your show that you now just getto go on and connect with, and
it makes it super simple.
Again, it cuts down thesearching because they're all
there within the platform, soyou just be able to search based
(09:44):
on keywords and find people whoare really closely aligned with
your show.
And again, both Travis and Alexare doing amazing things with
these platforms that make itsuper simple for podcast hosts
to find guests for your show andcheck out.
Below We've got links to bothof those platforms in the
(10:04):
description and we'd love foryou to check them out, because
they really are doing amazingthings and making podcast guests
finding a lot easier, and onthese platforms you can actually
put your show so guests canpitch to be on your show as well
, or you can pitch to be onother shows.
So it's a really great platformto be a part of.
And then, of course, you canfind guests on industry forums.
(10:26):
So, going to specific forumsand online communities that are
tailored towards your industryor your niche, they provide
valuable insights.
You can be in discussions, share about your podcast there
or an episode or something froman episode, and even ask for
guest recommendations from thecommunity.
Just be respectful of the rulesand etiquette as you interact
(10:48):
with potential guests andindividuals in those communities
.
But, again, those are greatplatforms as well to get ideas
for episodes and get ideas forguests and then connect with
potential guests.
At the end of the day, havingguests on your show can help
build your credibility.
This will bring more value toyour listeners as it grows, and
(11:08):
high profile guests are morelikely to accept invitations
when they see the positiveimpact their appearance can have
on your audience and how it canbenefit them as well.
So, again, to recap this episode, when you're going about trying
to find guests for your show, you want to understand who's a
good fit for your show first.
You want to craft a compellingand personalized pitch that you
(11:30):
can send to these potentialguests.
After you've built arelationship and so, building
that relationship, you want tomake sure that you're Connecting
with them in some way andletting them know that you're
appreciative of what they'redoing out in the marketplace.
And then you can go find theseguests on different locations
Facebook groups, like Imentioned, guest deal and pod
(11:50):
match two amazing sites or orindustry specific forums.
Look at what conversations areout there on social media and
who's involved in them.
Other Podcasts, shows and whothey've had on.
Those are all places you can goand find guests as well.
But I hope you can takesomething from this episode as
you're going out and trying tofind more guests.
Hopefully you can streamlinethe process, start bringing in
(12:13):
more and more guests that bringvalue to your audience, to help
grow and elevate your show andthe lives of those listening.
So that's all for this episode.
Share this with someone else ifyou know that there are podcast
hose, who interviews people, and let's make a difference
together.
But until next time, continueto elevate your life, elevate
your brand, and we'll talk toyou soon.
