Speaker 2 (00:25):
Welcome back to
another episode of the Elevate
Media Podcast.
I'm Chris Anderson and today'sepisode is going to be a quicker
one.
I want to tell you a little bitof story.
Maybe it's like a parable, andI want to kind of break it down
as to why it's one of myfavorites and why I share it and
like to talk about it withother people.
And that is that when you chasetwo rabbits, you catch neither.
(00:50):
But I don't know about you, andif you've ever tried to chase a
rabbit, you might be able tosay chase two chickens as well.
We have chickens and if you'rechasing two of them, good luck,
because they're going to be allover the place running around
and it's going to be almostimpossible to catch two at the
same time because they're notgoing to follow each other and
you can't do it.
(01:10):
So this parable kind of goesback to business, and we try to
chase two things.
We try to do two things inbusiness really well.
We're not going to do eithervery well at all.
So that's why we need to putall our effort into one thing,
especially when we're startingout.
(01:31):
And if you look at all thesuccessful entrepreneurs you
know the Mark Cubans, the BillGates, the Jeff Bezos.
They put all their energy anddrive and focus and
determination into one bigproject at first.
Yes, you know, as they've grownand as they've been successful,
they've been able to branch outinto different avenues, to
(01:55):
different projects, and that'sbecause they have the means and
the funds and the ability andthe access to more people, to
more things, to allow them tofocus on other things.
But when you're starting out,you want to focus your attention
on one single thing and becomeso good at that that you become
(02:19):
successful, that that becomesthe driving force to that next
level.
Because when you chase onerabbit, your percentage of
success goes up a lot morebecause you can focus, you can
see where it's going, you canput your attention on that one
rabbit and it's the same inbusiness.
Get really good at one singlething.
(02:41):
Maybe that's a group coachingcourse, maybe that's your agency
, maybe that's speaking, maybethat's selling your book,
whatever it is.
Focus on that one thing and getreally, really good at it.
And then eventually, when youget to the point and you've had
(03:01):
the success in that you're goingto have more means, you're
going to have more manpower tobe able to take care of that one
rabbit that you focus so muchattention on, and then you can
go and catch another rabbit andadd it to your mini-form or your
collection or whatever it is.
But you've got to focus on thatone at the beginning because you
(03:23):
can't be just chasingeverything, because all your
energy is going to get depleted.
You're not going to getanything done successfully or to
its full potential if you tryto chase it all and do it all.
So stop looking at these supersuccessful people who are doing
everything because they had togo through that singular focus
and become really good atsomething and get really great
(03:43):
success with it to allowthemselves the opportunities to
do more.
And that comes in time.
So again, when you chase tworabbits, you catch neither.
Remember that when you're tryingto make a decision in business
and life, if it's going, ifsomething is going to serve you
(04:04):
well, if it's going to serveyour purpose well, it's going to
add to that instead of detractfrom it.
Think about that.
Is this a part of that samerabbit I'm chasing, or is it
another one, a shiny objectthat's going to get me off track
Because so easy to do?
There's so much out there thatcan distract us.
(04:26):
That, we think, is going to bethe next big thing to propel us
forward on our journey ofentrepreneurship.
If we would just continue tofocus on that one rabbit, where
your strengths is what you'regood at, where there's a huge
need for that you've beenbuilding, that's where you're
(04:47):
gonna find success, because mostpeople don't chase out one
rabbit long enough to catch it.
Like I said, rabbits are quick.
You're not gonna catch it rightaway.
You know it's a game.
You gotta you know, think aboutwhere it's gonna go.
You gotta get into a positionthat allows you to almost corner
it.
You know get to that moment, but it's not gonna happen right
(05:08):
away and everyone's chase forthe rabbit looks different, the
lengths of it is different andthe outcomes are different.
Sometimes you realize you'rechasing the wrong rabbit and
there's not the one you want.
But that has to come afteryou've tested and tested and
(05:30):
gone and caught a mentor.
Hey, how do I catch this rabbit?
Someone has done it, but wedon't stay on that chase long
enough to get the success tochase to catch that rabbit.
So I hope this brought valuetoday.
Again, I said it was gonna be ashort while and get to the
point you know, hopefully it cansit with you.
If you're in the midst ofbuilding something and you're
getting discouraged becauseyou're not getting the results
(05:52):
that you want, you know you'renot at those 10k months or above
yet.
Don't give up.
Keep doing the work.
Keep doing the right thing.
Don't let the shiny objectsdistract from your journey and
get you off track.
Keep moving forward.
And if you don't have a mentor,if you're not listening to
(06:13):
someone who is where you'rewanting to get, to find someone
you know there's shows like mine.
There's so many people out therewho give free value on how to
grow and how to elevate alongyour journey.
Just listen and then takeaction on what they say.
If they're where you're at,listen to them.
There are many people out therewho are trying to help through
(06:35):
their podcast, their videopodcast, and add value.
To find them.
They're out there.
We're out there trying to help.
We want you to succeed.
We want you to get to that nextlevel.
You just got to find the rightmentor and when you're ready,
the teacher will show themselves.
Right, you will find thatperson as long as you're looking
.
So take this, go out there, continue to elevate your lives,
(06:56):
elevate your brands.
We'll talk to you next time.
