How come some physician entrepreneurs hit seven figures, while others plateau?

This is a question I get all the time, and it’s such an important one to unpack because the answer often lies in something most people overlook: high-quality, transformational events. Yes, you heard that right, events.

Events are non-negotiables if you're serious about building a business that grows, scales, and gives you the freedom you dreamed of when you started.

That's why, in this episode, I’m sharing why events are the secret weapon of high-achieving doctors, and breaking down the five reasons why the right event will give you community, mentorship, real-time transformation, mental breakthroughs, and yes, good old-fashioned fun.

SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
When I show up for these events, I'm gonna walk

(00:02):
away a different person.
I'm going to have mindset ships, acquire new habits, I'm going to
be more aware of obstacles thathave stalked me.
I am going to see simplepathways for me to accomplish
what I need to accomplish.
I'm going to make connections.
It's happening in real time.
Hi dogs.
Welcome to the OnTraMD podcast, where it's all about helping
amazing physicians just like youembrace entrepreneurship so you

(00:26):
can have the freedom to livelife and practice medicine on
your terms.
I'm your host, Dr.
Inna.
Well, at the time of thisrecording, it's a few days
before the Entre MD BusinessSchool Vision Retreat.
And I am so excited for thedoctors who are coming because I

(00:47):
know what happens at events.
And so I decided to come todayto talk to you about the reason
why seven-figure physicianentrepreneurs prioritize
high-quality events, okay?
Which the EntreMD BusinessSchool Vision Retreat is one of
them.
And so, you know, I was goingover, you know, the data, you
know, they're filling out theirregistrations and stuff.
So we have about 70% of the roomof the doctors who are coming in

(01:10):
have filled out their stuff.
And it's very interestingbecause, you know, looking at it
here, I see that 11% of thepeople in the room are people
who've been in the businessschool since 2020, 14% since
2021, 14% since 2022, 20% since2023, 17% since 2024, and then

(01:33):
22% from 2025, which is veryimpressive.
Like it's a fairly even-ishspread, right?
But really nice to see thatthere are people who've been
coming.
This is going to be our fifthvision retreat, and we have
people who've been coming since2020.
And there's a reason why, right?
There's a reason why.
So anyway, I just wanted to talkabout it because I discovered

(01:54):
events, and ever since I did,it's something that I've done.
It's something that I've addedas part of my personal
development.
And it's not even so muchpersonal development as it is an
opportunity for me to experiencea quantum leap.
It's an opportunity for me toexperience a big shift in my
business, in my life, and all ofthose things, right?
So the vision retreat issomething we do in October.

(02:16):
And we do it in October becauseI start my new year in October.
And I want my clients andmentees and everyone else to
start in October as well.
And there are a number ofreasons for that.
You know, one is the things thatyou do in the fourth quarter of
the year are the things thatdetermine what the first quarter
of the year looks like.
And so a lot of people would bedistracted and, you know, burnt

(02:40):
out and not feeling like doinganything for October, November,
December, or celebrating theentire, you know, 90-day block.
And of course we wouldn'tcelebrate, right?
But it is a holiday, right?
Not a holida quarter.
And so when they come in thefirst quarter of the year,
January, February, March, they're wondering like, what in
the world is going on with mybusiness, right?
But the results in businesstypically lag by 90 days

(03:00):
thereabouts, right?
And so there's just nothing tobe had because there's nothing
that was done.
So that's one of the reasons, right?
The other reason is, you know, there's Halloween in October,
there is Thanksgiving inNovember, and there is Christmas
and the other holidays inDecember.
And so the sheer amount ofdistraction, right, is just
unbelievable.

(03:21):
And so what I do is I set mygoals for the new year at the
end of September, October, andthen I start practicing.
I treat Q4 like I'm practicingfor 2026, right?
For that whole year.
And in doing that, I end theyear in the strongest way.
Like I finish really strong, andthen I start with the bank,

(03:43):
right?
And I've practiced.
And so January 1st, I'm ready tohit the ground running.
It's like just so amazing.
Okay.
So that's why we do that.
We have the vision retreat.
And it's one of my favoriteevents because here we're not
just doing business goals, we'redoing life goals, like all nine
areas of life, business goals, and we're working in real time.
So you're creating the goals, you're creating the calendar

(04:05):
that will support the goals, you're creating the habits that
will support the goals, and allthat is just unbelievably
amazing.
Okay.
So that's coming up in a fewdays.
And I know we have created whatwill be a radically
transformative experience forthe doctors in the entree and
business school.
And I can't, I really can'twait.

(04:26):
Like I'm so excited about it.
Here are the reasons why.
Okay.
The first reason is community.
The first reason is community.
And this depends on the peoplein the room, right?
And so, for instance, theentree-MD business school vision
retreat, you're talking aboutdoctors who are launching
businesses, growing businesses, anywhere from launch till 9

(04:47):
million in revenue, people whohave done cross seven figures
as, you know, people who arerunning direct specialty care
practices or insurance-basedpractices or created courses or,
you know, like any of thosekinds of things.
And they're there in the room, right?
People have spoken on thebiggest stages, right?
They're there in the room.

(05:08):
People who are on all kinds ofboards.
And it's just so wild.
And, you know, sometimes peopleare so bent on the, you know,
like hell bent on the content.
And the content has to be good.
It has to be really good.
We're going to talk about thatin a second.

But here's the deal (05:22):
your the transformation you get from your
content can be no more than thetransformation you get from
being in the right room, likejust being in the room, even if
there was no content, the levelof transformation, if you know
what to do in the room, right?
And so, of course, when thepeople come for the vision
retreat, I'm gonna like, this isnot the time to lurk.

(05:43):
This is not the time to hide.
If you're an introvert, so am I.
Let's just introvert together.
This is gonna be okay.
But this is where you talk tostrangers, this is where you
have conversations, this iswhere you pay attention to what
is working for other people.
You notice the mindsets of otherpeople who are where you want to
be.
You notice their habits, younotice all of these things.
There's so much you can learnbecause, like, we have over 50

(06:05):
people coming, 50 doctors comingfrom all over the United States
and Canada.
And to just imagine, right, thatyou're going to be in a room
with 50 people who are like 50vision boards, because that's
it.
It's so funny.
The doctors in the businessschool, they have pictures of
each other as vision boards, like on their vision boards,
right?
And so you get to be in thatcommunity.

(06:26):
And in our community, we havebuilt this culture of
collaboration over competition.
And so it's not a competition,it's collaboration.
There's people opening doors foreach other and all.
It's so amazing.
Like the comp the communityalone is enough to radically
transform anybody's life.
And that's why we call it theEBS Commonwealth.

(06:48):
Okay.
So that's the first thing.
And so, you know, why do Iprioritize events?
Because of the communities I getto be in, because of the people
I get to have experiences with, because of the relationships I
get to develop, and I open doorsfor them, and they open doors
for me, and they share what'sworking for them, and I share
what's working for me, and weall leave so much better, right?

(07:09):
Okay, so that's the firstreason.
The second reason is world-classmentorship, world-class
mentorship, right?
And you know, like I would, youknow, typically look for events
where these are people who'vebeen there, done that, they're
doing things I can only dreamof, and things like that.
And so for the doctors in theOntreinity Business School, for
instance, when they come for thevision retreat, I have spent

(07:31):
months working on the content.
I have spent months on workingout how to take this content and
turn it into a processing plan.
So they come in one way, theyleave another way.
So they're gonna leave withtheir life goals set, right?
In all night areas of theirlife.
They're gonna leave with theirbusiness goals set.
They're gonna leaveunderstanding what they need to
do to become the kind of personwho can pull off the results

(07:53):
they want to pull off.
They're gonna leave understandwith their time mapped out.
This is how I'm going to use mytime.
This is the pathway to get to mygoals, all of these things.
And the obstacles they have, weare going to get rid of those
obstacles.
And so the things that weretough for them in 2025 become
things they conquer in the restof 2025 or as we're going into
2026.

(08:14):
And so the quality ofmentorship, the quality is gonna
be so top-notch.
And when you encounter stufflike that, like a simple
conversation like that canradically transform your life.
And, you know, everybody knows, well, maybe not everybody,
right?
But everybody who's been in thisjourney for a while has an idea
of what their zone of genius is.

(08:36):
And I can tell you what my zoneof genius is, right?
My zone of genius, or one ofthem, is being able to take
complex problems and break themdown to like their lowest common
denominator.
Like, this looks like chaos allover here and it's
unsurmountable and all that, butliterally it's three things
going on here.
And this is how you fix it.

(08:56):
This is my zone of genius.
I literally had a conversationwith a potential client and
talked about, you know, something that was going on in
his practice that was costinghim at least$200,000, right?
And he's like easily$200,000.
It could be much more.
And in five minutes, I was ableto show him like this is how you
can use$30,000 to solve this$200,000 problem.

(09:19):
Boom, done.
This is my jab.
This is the experience thatthey're going to have.
And so when you're going forevents, right?
Like, so you tap into thecommunity, don't just show up
and lurk or stay at the back.
And I did all these things.
Okay, so of course I'm notjudging you.
But what I am saying is there'sso much to be had, right?
And then when it comes to thementorship, when it comes to the
frameworks, when it comes tothings that are being taught and

(09:41):
the exercises and all, you wantto go all in.
You don't want to stay in, oh,but oh, what if, oh, none of
that.
Like just lean into it.
Lean into it.
Okay, so that's why they dothat.
That's why they prioritize it.
Well, number one is community.
Number two is world-classmentorship.
Number three is real-timetransformation, right?
Like, so what do I mean by this?
Back in the day, I used toattend events where they teach

(10:04):
you a bunch of stuff and there'sa lot of motivation, everybody's
screaming, all the stuff, andthey send you home with a bunch
of homework, which nobody did.
Nobody did.
Okay, so the events I love toattend are the events that
barely have any homework, right?
Where it's like you learn some, you do an exercise, you learn
some, you have a reflection, youlearn some and do all of that

(10:26):
stuff.
So whatever it is that you needto go home and do to create the
transformation, you're doing itin real time and creating the
transformation in real time.
Like, so these people know whenI show up for this event, I'm
gonna walk away a differentperson.
I'm going to have mindset ships,I'm gonna acquire new habits,
I'm going to be more aware ofobstacles that have stopped me.

(10:47):
I am going to see simplepathways for me to accomplish
what I need to accomplish.
I'm going to make connectionswith, you know, with the people
that I need to go to the nextlevel and all of these things,
like it's real time.
It's happening in real time.
So I want you to think aboutthis.
If you had an event you could goto where you attend the event
and you experience the power, the transformative power of a

(11:11):
community, then world-classmentorship, and you have an
opportunity to do theseexercises, assignments,
worksheets, all this stuff inreal time.
So you're changing in real time, like you're doing the work,
you're changing your business, you're changing your life in
real time.
I want you to think about howdifferent your life will be, how
different your business will be.

(11:32):
This is what the right eventscan do for you.
Okay.
All right.
Number four.
Number four is the mentalbreakthroughs they can have
because they walked away fromtheir everyday life, their
businesses, right?
So I remember a vision retreatwe had.
Oh, actually, it wasn't a visionretreat.
It was a business makeovermastermind, which is the events

(11:52):
we host in April, March, April.
And I had a doc who told me,like, oh, you know, so this
event, I'm not gonna be there.
I'm like, what?
Why, why are you not gonna bethere?
And she says, because if I come,I have to shut down my practice.
And I said, okay, so that's whatyou do.
You shut down your practice.
And you would say, Why, howcould I have said that
confidently?

(12:13):
How could I tell somebody toshut down their practice for a
day or two days or whatever tocome to this event?
I said that because if you havea practice you're not able to
walk away from for two days, youneed to come.
So we figure that out.
Because you should be able to gofor an event for two days and
your practice should run likenothing happened.
If you can't come because youhave to shut down your practice

(12:34):
to come, then you should shutdown your practice to come.
So we can work on helping youget a practice that you can walk
away from and it can still runas if you were there, right?
And today she has that practice.
And today she's able to, youknow, travel for family, for
fun, for all of these things, for events.
You know, she's coming for this, you know, vision retreat and all
that stuff.

(12:54):
And it's because she said, yeah, she shut down her practice and
came.
And now she has a practice shecan walk away from when she
wants to go and do stuff, right?
I said all that to say this.
There's something about walkingaway from your business, walking
away from your daily grind.
You know, I tell you that yourbusiness is I'll always be a
construction site.
There's something about walkingaway from the construction site
and going to the penthouse andmaking plans there.

(13:19):
There's just something about itwhere some things that seem like
obstacles are no longerobstacles, some things you
thought were just overwhelmingthat can be overcome.
You can think more clearly.
It's just a beautiful thing towalk away, right?
It's a beautiful thing to walkaway.
And it's so much easier to havebreakthrough ideas, breakthrough
concepts for you to seeobstacles in a completely

(13:39):
different light, right?
And so there's a lot of mentaltrans mental breakthroughs that
come from leaving, like fromleaving your day to day, leaving
your house, leaving your home.
And, you know, so for instance, for the vision retreat, every
time but one, we have done it bythe beach.
And it's on purpose that thatgranted, I like being by the
beach and I like the water, sothat's where we go.

(14:02):
But there's also something aboutbeing in nature.
There's something about being ina room and looking out and
seeing the ocean.
There's something about standingby the ocean and you don't see
an end to it, right?
Like there's no end.
And it's expansive and it makesyou go like, why do I have this

(14:24):
little thinking?
Like, there's so much abundance.
Like I can think bigger.
I can, you know, there'ssomething about that.
There's something about that.
There's something about walkingaway.
And so there's so manybreakthroughs to be had.
In fact, the first time we hit amillion dollars in revenue in
the in on trimd, it was one ofthose kind of experiences.
I went for an event and again, community, right?

(14:45):
Somebody started talking about, you know, how her business makes
an easy million a month.
I was like, easy million amonth.
I'm like, she could do easymillion a month.
I could probably do an easymillion a year.
You know what I mean?
Because at that point I thoughta million a year was impossible.
Like, I don't know how I coulddo that.
And, you know, after the event, then I go out by the beach and

(15:06):
I'm pacing and I'm going, like, okay, I need to figure this out.
Like, how could I take mybusiness to a million a year?
I was on that beach for threehours because I was this, I
decided I will not leave until Ifigure this out.
And I walked away with a verysimple pathway, walked back to
my computer in my hotel room, executed the pathway, and boom,
that was the year that we hit amillion in revenue.
And so these are mentalbreakthroughs.

(15:27):
Okay, it's the mentalbreakthroughs.
Okay.
And then the fifth reason isit's just fun.
It's just fun.
And oh my goodness, sometimes asentrepreneurs, we are so
serious.
In fact, let me tell you howserious I am as an entrepreneur.
When I first discovered thewheel of life, it was eight
areas of life.
So it was spiritual, family, legacy, social capital,
intellectual development,finances, business, and one

(15:50):
other one that I'm missing, maybe health.
And, you know, but I added aninth one.
I added fun because I said, if Idon't have a goal for fun, then
it's not going to happen.
I have to have a goal.
Like, okay, we're going to go onvacation.
We're going to do all thisstuff.
Like it's not a default setting,right?
And I love what I do.
I love to work.
And so, yes, I have to have tohave that as a goal.

(16:13):
Oh, but these events are fun.
And as entrepreneurs, we need tohave fun.
We need to have a light side.
We need to have days where we'renot working.
We need to just be able to hangout with people and talk about
them and talk about, we talkabout family and friends and the
weather and shopping and all ofthese things and crack jokes.
And it's so good for you.
It's so good for you.

(16:33):
Now, the doctors in the Ontarioand B business school are an
interesting group of doctors,okay?
They're so fun.
Like they're hardcore, they dothe work, they're growing their
businesses, they're defying thestatus quo, they're doing all
that, and they are so much fun.
Every time we have a visionretreat, any resort that we use,

(16:55):
it is so loud because we'rethere.
And literally, I was listeningto Mikita, you know, she was
talking to someone who wascoming to the vision retreat for
the first time.
It's like, I, you know, I don'tknow how it's gonna be and all
that stuff.
You know, where fine people andall this is just follow the
sound.
Follow the sound that you findthem.
And so it's so fun.

(17:15):
It's so fun.
A lot of times people havebirthdays during, you know,
during it, and they come and wecelebrate their birthdays and we
do all of that stuff.
It's like screaming and laughingand letting it go and all of
that stuff.
And we need that.
As entrepreneurs, we need that,right?
And so when you think aboutthis, you understand that events

(17:35):
are not just events, they're notjust things that have to happen.
There's a reason.
Like there's a reason we do thisevery year.
We do this twice a year for ourclients, for the doctors in the
on-term business school.
And because I know you come andyou engage with the community,
you engage with the world-classmentorship, you uh uh engage in

(17:58):
the exercises so you can havethose real-time breakthroughs,
you have those mentalbreakthroughs because you've
disconnected from yourday-to-day and all that in the
construction site that yourbusiness is, and you really let
yourself have fun, you caneasily 10x to a thousand X, a
thousand X, your investment oftime, energy, and money on any

(18:21):
event.
On any event.
Like, I because I'm like, wegave you so many options to get
an ROI.
It would change your life.
And so if you're in theentrepreneur business school and
you're listening to this, youknow, you just want to listen to
this and go like, this is how weengage in events, the business
school events, the visionretreat, and the business
makeover mastermind.
If you're not, but you go toevents, this is the way you

(18:44):
engage.
This is how you look for whatevent to go for.
Like, what event has thecommunity, has the world-class
mentorship, how do they runtheir programs so I can get
these real-time breakthroughs?
Are the people I want to hangout with that have fun with, and
all of those things?
And then you go and engage withthe process.
I have never gone to an eventwhere I do not get a huge ROI.
It has never happened.

(19:05):
And it's not gonna happenbecause I know what I'm going
there to do and I know how toget an ROI from an event, right?
And I want to invite you to dothe same.
And if you're listening to thisand you're like, oh my goodness,
like this is all the stuff theydo in the on-trained business
school, listen.
I wish I had the on-trainedbusiness school when I became an
entrepreneur, but I didn't.
I wish that I had access toworld-class mentorship.

(19:26):
I wish I had access to acommunity of elite physician
entrepreneurs.
I literally used to Googlephysician entrepreneur.
Like, where are these people?
I couldn't find them anywhere,right?
And in business, ignorance isnot bliss.
Ignorance is expensive.
It costs you money, like literaldollars.
And, you know, my wish for you,if you love this podcast, I know

(19:48):
you love the entream d businessschool, right?
Like, so if you're thinkingabout it, you know, just
schedule a call with my team.
It's a call, it's not gonna hurtyou.
And we don't do high pressuresales tactics or anything like
that.
So entreamity.com forward slashcall and just explore and see
what it's like and what it couldbe like for you.
When you go for your next eventor as you plan, you choose what

(20:09):
event you want to go for, bearthese things in mind.
And if you're gonna spend timeaway from your family, like I
have four kids and I love mykids and I love my husband, and
I'm a homebody.
So if I'm gonna go somewhere, you best believe I'm gonna get a
return on investment on it.
Okay.
So the next time you go for anevent, I want you to bear these

(20:30):
things in mind so that this willbe an event that will be such a
game changer.
The same way I referenced, youknow, when we made our first
meal, like this is the event Iwas at, and all these things.
I want you to have those kind ofstories too, right?
And it all starts with theintentionality you use when
you're choosing and showing upand engaging in an event.
Okay.
So this is what I wish for youthat every time you go for an

(20:52):
event, is you experience aquantum leap.
Like your business jumps, yourlife jumps.
It's a big shift.
You know, like this is the endof showing up at events and
coming back, and it wasinspiring, it was good.
No, no, no, no, no, a thousandtimes no.
It can change your entire life.
You can change your entire life.
So this is the way I want you todo it from now with
intentionality, okay?
All right, rooting for you asalways.

(21:13):
Don't subscribe to the live thatyou cannot win as a physician
entrepreneur.
Of course you can.
Of course you can.
Now, of course, we're gonna needto learn new things, we're gonna
need to do things in a differentway.
But you can win.
So many doctors ahead of you, hundreds, thousands are winning,
have won, and we're waiting onyou to do that too.
Okay?
All right, rooting for everysingle one of you.

(21:34):
See you on the next episode.
