(00:19):
Hey folks, welcome back to the Evil Dungeon Master Universe
Podcast. I'm your host, Evil Dungeon
Master Vince, hopefully you are doing well.
It is Monday, time for another podcast.
But first ask the evil DM. I'm sorry.

my website. You can sign up for the
newsletter. So when I send out a podcast,
you will get a notification for it.

(00:41):
Or if you're not or if you're signed up for one of the various
places the podcast comes out, you will get it then as well.
You can head to ko-fi.com, the Evilvm, and join and donate
there or join the monthly, I guess membership and you get
access to a special podcast as well as special material as I

(01:03):
release it during the month. At different tiers, you can get
different things for AD and D, for mazes and perils or whatever
I'm kind of working on and want to distribute out to members as
a freebie. Check those out.
Otherwise, let's get on to the podcast today.
Today we're going to look at theMonster Manual and I'm going to
look at a little friggin monsterthat probably would piss off

(01:29):
just about anybody. We're talking about the
leprechaun. Now this little guy, I can tell
you, is, I want to say the answer to did you give your
group too much stuff? Did your group you give out a
magical item that you didn't realize and someone is

(01:52):
overpowering in your campaign? Well, here's the answer to that.
Leprechaun number of appearing one or one to 20.
Armor class is 8. Movement is 15.
Two to five hit points, 10% chance it's actually going to be
in the later layer. It doesn't have any attacks, no
damage. Special attacks.

(02:13):
See below special defense to seebelow.
Magic resistance 80% Intelligence is really
exceptional. Neutral line, no scionic,
anything like that. Leprechauns normally dwell only
in fair green lands with lush hills and delis for them to
frolic through. Occasionally a party of

(02:33):
adventurers ones will reside, sorry.
Occasionally a party of adventurous ones will reside
elsewhere. For one time these creatures of
magical talent and mischievous nature can become visible.
Will polymorph non living objects, create illusions and
use ventriloquism spells as often as they like?

(02:55):
Their keen ears prevent them from being surprised.
Being full of mischief, they will often 75% of the time
snatch valuable objects from persons, turn the visual and
dash away. See what I mean?
The objects stolen will be valuable and then there is a 75%
chance that of the thief being successful.

(03:17):
If pursued closely, there is a 25% chance per turn of pursuit
the leprechaun will drop the stolen goods.
If caught or discovered in its lair.
The leprechaun will attempt to mislead its captor into
believing he is giving over his treasure While he is actually
duping the captor. It will require a great care to

(03:39):
actually obtain the leprechaun'streasure.
Note leprechauns have a great fondness for wine and A and this
weakness may be used to outwit them.
Rumor has it leprechauns are a species of halfling with a
strong strain of Pixie mixed in with them.
So there's a leprechaun. It's kind of a basic creature,

(04:00):
Looks harmless, but this was Gary Gygak's answer to a lot of
things. When it came to Sage advice or
the questions that people would write in, he would often talk
about this creature as the way to get these items away from
players that you accidentally did or gave it to them and

(04:20):
didn't think they would be overpowered.
You want to take it away? Boom, here's your monster with a
75% chance of stealing somethingvaluable, and you're the DM.
So you're going to pick obviously the most valuable
thing you can that you want to take away, and this is what
you're going to take away. That sword you gave them, that

(04:41):
ring you gave them something that is valuable enough that it
ruins your campaign as a DM. And yeah, we've all done that in
the past. We've given out something that
is just whoops. And you didn't think about it.
I can probably count a couple oftimes that I've given out
magical items, not thinking certain players would have an

(05:03):
advantage for using them and thinking it would be useful for
other players. Like for instance, when I was
playing in a fantasy game for Palladium, I gave out some
various magical items that I didn't think would be abused,
but the right player grabbed theitems and it made him almost
impossible to hit and made him overpowered when it came to

(05:25):
hitting things in D&D. I've done that a couple times in
the past. You learn as Adm over time.
You instantly know how to be a great DM.
Over time you learn not to give certain things out.
Or if you do give certain thingsout, make sure they're at the
appropriate level. And if you do screw up, here is

(05:46):
your monster to basically screw up because there is so much fun
to be had with this monster. Definitely.
I usually play these monster, this leprechaun, as kind of a
whimsical, fun little creature that likes to talk and likes to
sing. And he does like, you know,

(06:07):
sleight of hand. And he'll steal the items when
people aren't watching. With a 75% chance to do that,
they're probably not going to catch him do anything.
And if I really want to as Adm, I'll take it.
I'll take the item at 95% or 100%.
It doesn't really matter becauseyou're the dungeon master.
Is it fair? No, but that's what this

(06:27):
creature is used for. Anything else?
Not really. So that's a quick little look at
the leprechaun today. I don't know if you used a
leprechaun in your game before, folks.
Let me know in the comments below what you think of the
leprechaun and stuff like that. Do you think it's one of those
creatures that is really frigginannoying, or is it one of those

(06:50):
creatures that you would use in your campaign just because he's
listed in the Monster Manual? I mean, with a good ability to
create illusions and stuff at will and try and polymorph non
living objects to whatever he really wants, there is a lot to
be done with this creature. He's pretty much pretty

(07:11):
powerful. He's a very powerful little
creature. And especially if you get a
whole bunch of them together, traveling 1 to 20 of them
together, imagine 20 of them. I've just been random.
Just fold up the game and run away, right?
Kidding, but yeah, they're a little pain in the ass is what
they are, and Gary admitted thatthat's what they were for, being

(07:33):
a pain in the ass. Well, with that said, I'm going
to head out to a short 1 today. I got some training to do at
work. Got to get to that and some
tests to take. But anyway, keep it original,
keep it old school. Good night and God bless and
talk to you guys later. Keep those ADD fires lit.
