Mark Harbert (00:00):
Mark Harbert here.

(00:00):
And in today's video, I'm goingto share with you some new
updates to YouTube shorts thatyou need to know about.
All right, so we're going todive right in.
Now, one of the things that Ilove is YouTube shorts is such a
great way to share content.
And if you know me, you knowthat I love YouTube.
YouTube is such a powerfulplatform.

(00:23):
It's been around a long time.
It's really the behemoth andit's the best place to put your
content because it has searchcapability and your content can
live on for a very long time.
Now, as opposed to certainsocial media platforms where you
can put your videos there andyou should, but the problem is
those videos disappear after awhile.

(00:44):
That's why I love YouTube andthese new changes to YouTube
shorts are going to make it evenmore amazing.
So let's go ahead and dive inand we're going to talk about
these updates.
All right.
So on this article, this justcame out on October 3rd, 2024,
and it's called tall updatescoming to shorts.
And one of the things thatyou'll notice here, and we're

(01:07):
just going to go down the linehere and I'm going to share with
you exactly what it's about, but, in shorts, this is the big
one that I really want to focuson.
They're making storytelling onshorts, more immersive.
if you're familiar with.
TikTok and reels and Facebookreels.
TikToks, you can have videos upto 10 minutes long and on Reels,

(01:28):
Instagram and Facebook, you canhave up to 90 seconds long.
YouTube is now announcing thatstarting October 15th, you can
upload longer shorts up to threeminutes long.
I love that because if YouTubeis the source, it's the main
place that you're really focusedon.
What's great about this.

(01:48):
is that it gives you moreflexibility to create your video
for YouTube.
then you can make some changesif you want to put them on
Facebook and Instagram reelscause they can only be up to 90
seconds, but tick tock can takethe video no matter what.
So you really don't have tocreate so many different
versions of it.
if you want to make sure thatit's compatible on all

(02:10):
platforms, you want to make surethat it is less than 90 seconds.
But I love that we can startputting some focus on longer
shorts because the trend ispeople are trending back to
longer videos and YouTuberealizes this Tic Tac realized
that a good year or two ago andthey've allowed you to put up

(02:31):
longer videos because they wantpeople on their platforms
longer.
So this whole idea that peoplecontinue to, you know, push and
I've even pushed it is thatattention spans are horrible.
I just don't believe that today.
I think that the more and more Ilook at it, people have
attention spans.
They're just looking forsomething that interests them.

(02:52):
And if something interests them, they'll watch it.
It's not that their attentionspans are bad.
It's just, they have moreoptions.
And that's a big difference.
So the goal is create contentthat's interesting to people.
And now you have three minutesthat you can do that in a short,
that is awesome.
And I absolutely love that.
And also, if you can noticeright here, it says, Recent

(03:12):
updates to the player streamlineits look allowing creators
content to take center stage andviewers to focus on the content
they love.
So there's more things that arecoming to the player inside of
YouTube Shorts.
So that's going to be a greatthing that you can utilize as
well.
See a short you like now you caneasily recreate the magic with

(03:33):
templates.
This is another update.
that YouTube is adding intoshorts.
Jump on the latest trends, matchyour clips to the hottest sounds
and add your own unique flair.
You can try templates by tappingremix on a short that inspires
you and select use this templateor give it your own spin.
So that's a really cool one thatI think is great.

(03:55):
All right.
Now this is a big one.
I think this is awesome.
TikTok has had this for a while.
It's great to see.
more of this coming to YouTube, stand top of trends, never miss
a beat with the new shortstrends page on mobile, discover
what's hot in your country, getinspired and jump into the
trend.
So that is a huge one.
So if you want to jump intotrends on YouTube, That's going

(04:17):
to be great.
want to get a taste ofconversation?
You'll soon be able to get apreview of what people are
saying in the comments rightfrom the shorts feed, even
before you jump into thecomments feed.
So that's going to beinteresting how that looks.
So you're going to be able tolook at comments.
right in the feed.
I think that's a cool thing.
We'll see how that looks oncethat drops.

(04:38):
and I love this.
One of the things that, hashappened is, you'll notice,
especially on YouTube, and thereare different viewers between
people who like long videos andpeople who like short videos.
And some people who like longvideos don't like to see so many
shorts.
So this is now giving you theability.

(05:00):
that you can customize yourYouTube experience based on your
preferences.
So we'll introduce an option toshow fewer shorts.
You can choose this setting byclicking on the three dot menu
in the upper right of any shortgrid on your home feed, and
we'll temporarily show you fewershorts in your home feed.
So if you want to see lessshorts, You can do that.

(05:22):
So those are the major updatesthat are coming to YouTube.
I'm really excited about thethree minute long videos.
I think that is going to beawesome.
I think that's really going tobring a lot more depth to shorts
and it gives you more.
time to create a betterexperience and a better video
for people to watch.
Because ultimately what this isabout is it's about creating

(05:44):
great content.
And I don't know about you, butit's very difficult for me in 60
seconds to get my point across.
And I'm very happy that they'reextending this to three minutes.
Again, October 15th, 2024.
That's when it hits.
So get your videos ready.
And really, when you think aboutit from a repurposing
standpoint, it's going to be somuch easier in your workflow to

(06:06):
be able to put that out there.
So I love it.
I'm excited.
Let me know what you think aboutthese updates.
You can put them below and giveme any feedback All right.
Appreciate you.
Bye bye.
