We're going to do a Bible studynow, a devotional from the
(02:13):
Bible app His pain, our gain.
So listen to this clip realquick and then I'll be back in a
second.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
He was wounded for
our transgressions.
He was bruised for ouriniquities.
The chastisement for our peacewas upon him and by his stripes
we are healed.
This verse paints a picture ofthe pain and the suffering Jesus
endured for you and for me, notjust as our Savior alone, but
also as our healer.
(02:41):
Now most of us are confidentand comfortable viewing Jesus as
our savior, but we hesitatereceiving and embracing him as
our healer.
This verse makes it abundantlyclear that when God rescued us
from the stronghold of darknessand brought us into the kingdom
(03:01):
of his son, healing was part ofthe package.
And the healing that heprovides is more than physical,
it's more than mental, it's morethan emotional, spiritual, but
most of all, it's complete.
And I'm here today to remindyou like the Psalmist in Psalm
103, not to forget a single oneof the benefits Jesus died for
(03:24):
you and for me to enjoy.
So, whether you have knownJesus for years or you're just
now discovering who he is, heinvites you to come, be healed
and be made whole.
Wherever you are in the worldor whatever you're walking
through today world or whateveryou're walking through today,
(03:48):
remember this Jesus sees you, hesuffered for you and his
healing power is available toyou right now.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Healing power is
available to you right now.
Did you hear what he said?
Isaiah 53 is a stunning chapterin the Bible, in what is now
commonly referred to as the OldTestament.
Approximately 700 years beforeJesus walked the earth, isaiah
(04:12):
prophesied about a sufferingservant who would also somehow,
in some way, be exalted, acoming savior, a future redeemer
, the long awaited Messiah whosedeath would ultimately bring
life.
A portion of Isaiah 53 saysthis.
(04:34):
But he was pierced for ourtransgressions.
He was crushed for ouriniquities.
The punishment that brought uspeace was on him, and by his
wounds we are healed.
That's Isaiah 53, 5.
That's the new invitationalversion.
(04:57):
So, guys, who is the man thatwould be pierced, crushed and
wounded because of someoneelse's sins, whose undeserved
punishment would be the catalystfor healing, whose life would
be given as an offering so thatothers may live?
(05:20):
That would be Jesus, jesus theChrist.
That would be Jesus, jesus, theChrist.
Jesus not only fits thedescription of the suffering
servant who paid the ultimateprice to buy his people back,
redeem them and set them free.
He also fits the description ofmany other inspired predictions
(05:41):
about the promised deliverer ofthe Jewish nation.
The promised deliverer of theJewish nation.
The Messiah was prophesied tocome from the lineage of David
Isaiah 9, 7, and be born of avirgin Isaiah 7, 14, in
Bethlehem, and that's in Micah 5, 2.
(06:03):
He would do astonishingmiracles.
That's Isaiah 35, 5.2.
He would do astonishingmiracles.
That's Isaiah 35, 5, and 6.
You can find all that stuffright there.
Though innocent, he wasbetrayed by a close friend, and
that's in Psalms.
Beaten and spit on.
(06:24):
That's in Isaiah, pierced inthe hands and the feet that's in
Psalms as well and ultimatelykilled.
That's in Daniel, daniel 9, 26.
But because he would intercedefor rebels Isaiah 53, 12.
Many would be counted asrighteous.
(06:46):
That's in Isaiah 53, 12,.
Many would be counted asrighteous.
That's an Isaiah 53, 11,.
Just as a soldier would givehis life for his fellow
countrymen.
Jesus, jesus, jesus, sorry guysgave his life for the world.
And Today, consider theconsequences of Jesus' decision.
(07:09):
Consider the abundant life youhave access to because Jesus
took on your suffering and yourshame.
Reflect on Jesus' crucifixiontoday.
That's good stuff right there.
(07:32):
And all that was prophesied 700years before Jesus.
He paid the ultimate price forour freedom.
This should have been lastweek's Memorial day.
This should have been Monday'spodcast.
(07:52):
Oh well, this is God's time.
He paid the ultimate price forour freedom.
Now we get to share thegreatest story on earth as we
eagerly wait for our Jesus toreturn, for our Jesus to return.
(08:16):
Man, hundreds of prophecieswere fulfilled in the life,
death and resurrection of Jesushuh.
This should give us greatconfidence as we tell each other
or tell others about him, as wetell each other or tell others
(08:37):
about him.
The challenge is invite a friendor family member to read the
remarkable chapter of Isaiah 53with you.
Then take turns sharing whatyou learned.
I think me and the wife will dothat.
Isaiah 53, 5.
(08:58):
But he was pierced for ourtransgressions.
He was crushed for ouriniquities.
The punishment that brought uspeace was on him, nobody else.
Him, and by his wounds we arehealed.
That's Isaiah 53.5.
(09:23):
Let's go to the word.
Let's go to the Lord in prayer.
Lord, heavenly Father, thankyou, lord.
Just thank you for saving us.
Lord, thank you for your grace, thank you for your mercy.
We did not deserve any of that, but we definitely appreciate it
(09:44):
.
I definitely appreciate it.
Lord, I'm so grateful.
I'm so grateful.
Lord, thank you for becomingJesus.
Thank you for becoming God withus.
Lord, thank you for taking thebrokenness of the world, this
world, this evil world, takingthat weight off our shoulders.
(10:09):
Taking that weight off ourshoulders.
It's because of your sacrifice, your selfless sacrifice, that I
can experience eternal lifewith you, lord.
Today I receive your gift ofsalvation, lord, and invite you
(10:37):
to heal me.
Lord, today I pray ourlisteners do the same.
Lord, I want to spend the restof my life, the rest of my days,
trying to be more and more likeyou.
