(00:06):
You're listening to the Fox and the Phoenix podcast
Understanding the Feminine CrossDressing experience.
I'm Savannah Hawk, dual gender male to female cross dresser,
LGBTQ plus advocate, TEDx speaker, and author of the
Living with Cross Dressing book series.
(00:28):
And I'm Julie Rubenstein, proud ally and Co founder of Fox and
hanger.com, a feminine styling and life coaching service for
crossdressers and transgender women.
Hi, Savannah. Hello, Miss Rubenstein.
Julie, if you're nasty. It has been really kind of cool.
I mean, that I missed you terribly, but it has been cool
(00:49):
listening to the episodes of past of recent past that I have
not been at for whatever reason. It was cool to take it from the
perspective of just a listener rather than someone who was a
part of the episode and is, oh, I said that.
Oh, I don't know how that sounds.
So, yeah, thank you for taking the reins these past couple
(01:12):
weeks as I take care of some other things in my life.
And it was quite enjoyable. But I am very very, very glad to
be back and I missed everyone somuch.
And we missed you. I know we were together last
week, you and I. So that one's in the pipeline.
And right, obviously everybody'salready listened to it last
(01:33):
week. And when you were on your
travels, being a little travelerand being amazing, I'm like, I'm
jet setting anyway. And I was like, what do I do?
I got nothing to do without you.Fortuitously, I was able to go
to Atlanta and hang out with some kiddos and have a little SO
session and then the magic of a brand new project I was doing.
So you got to hear a little prologue from my book.
(01:55):
So if you missed that, go back to that.
I enjoyed it. I thought it was a cool little.
Rick it, I know how to. Do something else now and just
get that out to the people because I know I've been talking
about this stupid, not stupid. I'm sorry.
Let me take that back. I'm just frustrated.
Just the fact that I got these four books for this young adult
series. I'm so amped to get out and I've
(02:17):
been working out for five years, six years, and I'm at the point
of another round of edits. I'm actually listening to the
book through a app that has given me.
It's reading it to me and I'm actually listening to the words
like Judy used to do when she used to read it out loud to me
at night and find out like how, man, that doesn't sound right at
all. That sounds long winded.
(02:37):
So I'm making changes now for that.
I'm doing book one. My editor has book three, my
beta readers have book 1-2 and three.
I've done cover design comps. I'm making it happen, kiddos.
But it's just a long process. I hate it.
I just want it to be done so I can work on the next thing and
be annoyed. I know, I totally, totally get
it. I'm not sure by the time this
(02:59):
episode actually airs if it willbe released to the world, but
Kate and I have been working on a secret project and birthing it
for at least three years at nauseam.
We have had meetings about it and I've sent at least 200
emails about it and trying to craft it all and trying to
figure out how at Box and Hangarwe could just do the most good
(03:22):
and help the most people. So more on that later.
Your project release reminded mefor all our listeners to stay
tuned for an exciting at change that's going to be dropping at
foxandhanger.com and more on that later.
Man, now what? You got me thinking.
Now you got me thinking about how I want to promote it, like
(03:44):
coming soon, a new project from Fox and Hanger Court Road that
needs more trains love than ever.
Fox and Hanger. Yeah, I just do all preamble, a
sci-fi and trailer for you in the world.
Anyway, enough of that. I'm excited because this
honestly group, everybody's listening.
I have not heard word 1 about the secret project she's been
(04:06):
working on for three years. So even I'm in the dark.
I might have to talk to Kate to get some teats.
I think you've, I think you've heard about the concept for a
while. Don't scan your brain too hard.
I won't. But yeah, it's definitely
something that involves a lot ofhearts and kind of this
overarching sense of community and generosity and kindness and
(04:31):
all the things. Yes.
So that's all I'm going to say about that.
Can you do me a favor though? I mean, you seem to be putting
all this effort into the secret Top secret double Hand members
only project, but what can you tell us today?
What are we doing today? Oh, like what I'm like today We
(04:52):
I'm like, wait, what day is it? Today we are going to be
discussing accessories. You mean accessories after the
fact? Like when I help you bury the
body. Nice 1.
I actually had, I actually had to look up the spelling of it
and there's two different spellings and I was like, Oh my
God, I posted something and thenI spell it wrong.
(05:12):
The accessories that I'm talkingabout is those tiny little
details that creates magic and balance and helps with body
language and confidence when it comes to feminine presentation,
like earrings and belts and hatsand all that kind of all that
kind of fun stuff that you, Savannah, does not have as a
(05:36):
part of your aesthetic. Which going into this episode,
what I thought about it, I'm like, well, jeez, I didn't
really picture you with much accessories on, but I just, you
know, was like, well, I want a style episode.
And this is important to a lot of people.
Yeah. I was interesting today when we
logged on Zoom to hear the realities of the facts about you
(05:59):
not wearing accessories. Yeah, I had to ask Judy.
I said Judy, just for the audience is for a little
background. I said Judy, I had to come home
early because Julie wants me to come up with three physical
things that I accessorize with and I'm like, and I only know 1.
So heard I had to talk about it and she reminded me of something
(06:21):
that we will reveal that I didn't even think about.
But when I do think about it, I was like, Oh, yeah, my premise,
the way I'm coming to this episode is as follows.
What are the three things? At least you asked me to bring
3. And I thought to myself, I don't
wear belts, I don't wear scarves, I don't wear earrings.
I don't do those things to accessorize with.
(06:43):
But what are those three things that me, Savannah will never
leave the house without as part,as you said, my presentation
that I believe is indicative of something I don't like to leave
the house without. I'm not talking about, Oh no, I
didn't put a wig on. I'm not saying that.
I'm saying what are the three things that make Savannah
(07:04):
Savannah? And if I don't have the thing,
it bothers me if I don't have the thing that I'm accessorizing
with. So I did bring, from my point of
view, those three things that Savannah never goes without.
I am very excited to find out about your three things.
It's actually nail biting to me.Before I get into your three
(07:28):
things or my three things or we rock, paper, scissor for who
will go first, I just wanted to let everyone know that I put out
a meme or a little bit of a carrot taste to see if we got
any bites from our beautiful community.
And that was a picture a yellow background with some sunglasses,
(07:50):
purse, shoes, hats with in magenta saying what is your
favorite accessory and why? And I just wanted to read one of
the responses from Jennifer HangGardner, who says a year or so
ago, I bought a gold charm bracelet without any charms.
(08:12):
I asked my friends to give me a charm that they felt either
represented me or my friendship. The charms I got back and added
to it are constant reminder of the love and understanding that
they have for me. So that's beautiful.
And thank you so much, as always, to our listeners for
participating. You add definitely some richness
(08:34):
to these episodes whenever we can include your words.
So thank you so much. Jennifer's statement is just a
reminder about how often accessories, especially items
like jewelry and in this case, acharm bracelet, can be really,
really personal to individuals. And this was a delightful ask.
(08:55):
When Jennifer bought this charm bracelet and asked her friends
to find a charm that reminds them of who she is or their
friendship. I think that that's so special
and beautiful and lovely and something that makes your
feminine fashion really true to you and really personal and
really authentic, and I love that.
(09:16):
So thank you for sharing. And what you just said is what I
feel makes me authentic is definitely the way I approach
this. Yes, yeah.
So I actually I had the idea before to rock, paper scissor
because you know mall about a good Rochambeau, right?
That's what that means, right. But I think we should just have
(09:38):
you start first. Oh.
Well, I appreciate that. I think I'm going to start with,
I'm going to wait for the best one for last, probably the most
notable 1. So again, I brought the physical
item here for you and I and I'm going to slowly bring it up on
screen. Here it comes.
Here comes one thing that Savannah will never leave the
house without. Is my goodness.
(10:02):
In it is footed hold and stretchCapezio tights.
Now, I'm not saying that it has to be this brand and this type,
but the one thing that Savannah has never left the house
without, that is something that's not LeBron panties, It's
not a body shaper, it's not a wig sensor, it's not a wig.
All those things that are mandatory that you can't go
(10:25):
without. But people go without pantyhose
all the time. I have never, I don't think, in
my entire career as Savannah ever gone out without pantyhose
for a couple of reasons. One, I love the way they feel.
2, they hold up all my hip curves.
And three, I love how it makes me look.
I love how it really evens out the tone of the legs because I
(10:48):
do have some things I'm not so proud about on my legs.
So it makes me feel more sexy, more sultry.
It's got a nice shiny look to it.
A lot of the times. It's got that nice compressive
value that we've spoken about from time to time.
So my #1 accessory is my that I use from technical aspect and
(11:09):
from the fact that it makes me feel complete and lovely and
sexy and beautiful. I love that and it also evens
out the skin tone and for me that's super important for me
because I tend to have really dry to the point where they're
flaky, like flaky legs and freckles, which I love.
(11:31):
But whenever I'm going to an event that's really no matter
what season during the daytime or even at night, I like the
confidence. I like the fact that it looks at
best, it looks like you're fleshand it adds that all over tan
bit to it. That's so, I don't know,
aesthetically pleasing, for me at least, a great.
(11:52):
That's a lot of it for me, Just the look.
I know some people put that cosmetics on and they they
sponge it on and make that skin tone.
Even for me, that just sounds like a lot more work.
So, so this is a quick, I don't know if you got to call it a
shortcut or a glow up, whatever it is you want to say it is for
me, it's always been my go to and whether it was strictly
(12:16):
because it was foundationally important to keep all the curves
in place, I have found that it has become my lifeline and
lifeblood for how beautiful I see my legs as they can be.
And it's so a quick way to enhance that.
Love that. OK, what is the next?
10 AM I doing all three of mine?OK, OK, OK.
(12:37):
All right, so I'm going to hold up two things because one's the
inside, one's the outside. What other thing that this fan
of could go without? Had a discussion with somebody
at the Atlanta Comfort Conference about because I was
complaining about eye strain. I'm like, well, you don't have
to. But one of the things I love as
(12:58):
an accessory to Savannah is don't you make my brown eyes
blue with a little bit of colored contacts.
And so this is one that Judy reminded me of because it's
become such a staple of my look.It is an enhancement to the
look. And so, yes, I could have clear
contacts, prescription contacts. So I would have to wear glasses.
(13:19):
That's one thing I don't like iswearing the glasses.
So the colored contacts have become, I believe part, and this
is the discussion I had at ACC is that these are part of this
Savannah brand is they have blueeyes are like, well, you don't
have to if your eyes are not like no, It's so important to me
that wise and it really is. I always love the look of it.
(13:42):
I love the sparkle of it. I love when if I'm looking in
the sunlight a certain way, theylike pop and magnify and can
almost become illuminated. I just love taking pictures and
selfies and seeing just those blue eyes staring back at me.
I love, I love that. And right when you said it, I
just got this flash from memory of when we, you and I first met
(14:04):
and when I don't know if I was like staring at a picture and
then talking to you about on thephone.
Something came up around your eyes and us having me having a
moment by myself staring at a picture and then you and I
having messaging or talking about it.
And I was like, I just look intothose beautiful blue eyes and I
feel like I've just known you forever and like blah, blah,
(14:27):
blah, blah, blah. And you're like, you're like
about that. And I was like, yes.
And this was like when we first met and everything was so like,
you could do no wrong in my book.
You were just like, who is this supernova?
Like who is? This Oh my.
And you're like, actually, I hate to disappoint you, but
those baby blue eyes are actually contacts.
(14:51):
And I was just like. And it did.
I'm not going to lie, it did break my heart.
Just 1% I got over it, but it was just like the illusion and
how I connected your blue eyes to this human before me.
And that is everything I just said is not wrong.
Is not wrong because it is who you are in this feminine persona
(15:14):
versus Chuck who I didn't even you know, that's a whole nother
podcast episode that that did happen about how intimidated and
how I was not comfortable with the Chuck aspect of you, but
that true to Savannah form. Your blue eyes are very much a
part of who you are and like finding out that they weren't
naturally your God-given shade. Whoops.
(15:37):
It took a half a second, but yeah, kudos to you for to Judy,
by you and Judy for coming up with that cool physical
accessory that goes beyond what I was ever thinking in terms of
this topic. Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah, yeah. Kudos to Judy.
Oh, Judy says hi, by the way. Oh, hi.
She's now safely. Hi, Judy.
(15:59):
No, she's now safely back home after her stint four months with
her mother while going through some radiation treatment up in
Connecticut. So I Holly was able to get her
back home so she readjusting to quote UN quote normal life
again. And helping you right away with
your look at her. It's an episode.
(16:20):
Right, exactly. And if if people remember from
my cosplay, our cosplay episode,I'll talk about that.
People know that initially I used colored contacts,
prescription contacts for my this Marvel costume.
And so it wasn't, I mean, and that was it early odds or the
mid odds, Savannah did exist waybefore I thought about color
(16:42):
contacts. And then as soon as the color
contacts became a knowable thingand I was able to utilize it, I
was like, oh man, I really want this to be part of Savannah's
presentation. And it just was added on as
incidentally. But really, I felt completed
what Savannah is look wise. That is amazing.
I literally love that both the capezias and the shaded tinted
(17:07):
contacts and what pray tell? Like I can't imagine like I'm
racking my brain. What is the third item?
Can I take a guess? You can.
I will say before you take the gas, I'll give you one clue.
This is the one item of Savannah's presentation, the one
accessory that if I do not have it, I will actually start
(17:28):
spiralling if I can't find it. If I can't locate it if it goes
missing, I will tend to have almost emotional breakdown if I
can't have it on days of. So I want to say it's Hong Kong
titties. If you can't find your titties,
I will have an emotional breakdown.
That is very true, and that thatis.
(17:50):
Yes, you are. That is so funny.
I don't know how I would lose mytits, but you know, that's
pretty funny. That would also be problematic,
but the thing I was thinking more of is 0.
Oh yeah, that is perfect. All right, that on the nose.
All right, right now I'm being shown exactly what this item is,
and go figure. Savannah decides to flip a bitch
(18:13):
and go in the exact direction ofwhat we're talking about for the
third item. So let's, I mean, I love your, I
love an adjacent answer, don't get me wrong, but let's go for
that third. Yeah, the third, like I said,
this third item I've had more than one occasion.
No, no, no, misplaced said item as I'm getting ready and
(18:34):
everything's going perfectly andthis is that one accessory.
I'm like, I can't wait to put iton.
I'm like, where did it go? And then I'm like sweating my
makeup off because I'm panicking.
The one thing that Savannah never goes out of the house
without is her phoenix necklace pendant that Judy got me for
Christmas one year, probably within the last.
(18:58):
I want to say it was the last seven years because I believe
we're in South Carolina when shegave it to me.
And this, it's not pewter, but it's a silvery phoenix that if
anybody seen my Instagram has seen it.
I'm around my neck in all the pics if my hair is not covering
it with a little inlaid stones. That looks super pretty and it's
very fierce looking. I will tell you this if I'm not
(19:21):
wearing this one, which is 99.5%of the time, I do have another
one that Judy got me that's a little more elegant.
It's got a more ropey magenta necklace cord, and then it's got
the goldish phoenix wrapping up around a stone.
That one I use on very, very, very, very special occasions
when it suits that outfit best versus this one.
(19:45):
But yeah, this is 1 where I willbe in a utter panic if I can't
find it. And I actually panic today
because I came back from the Atlantic Comfort Conference,
knew I put it away in a pocketedpocket of something and I looked
in the luggage, wasn't in the pocket.
I looked in my club bag, wasn't in that pocket, and realized it
was in my makeup bag pocket. So I have it in front of me and
(20:06):
I feel fulfilled and complete. As you're telling the story, I
do have this memory of you communicating that with me.
And I was like, oh, not that piece.
I'm not sure if it was before when you couldn't find it or
after you had found it. But either way, I know just
knowing you, I know how it's special and important.
That accessory, that piece is certainly the piece itself, the
(20:30):
Phoenix. It's something that we
incorporated into the name of the podcast.
It's something that I know grounds you and is super
special. So yeah, that is right on the
nose when it comes to your accessory shares.
But yeah, those were great. Thank you great ones and I felt
like when you asked me, hey, let's do this episode is bring
(20:50):
three things. I'm like I don't accessorize.
That's not me. I'm not that girl, and I do have
a couple honorary mentions because I wanted to also set the
stage. There was a time back in the day
where putting on the KISS press on nails was a super, super,
super important accessory I would wear, and that was in 2001
(21:14):
through 2008. I would spend 30 minutes making
sure I had all my nails on because it just made, like
you've talked about, to make sure your fingers feel more
feminine, long, delicate. And I love that.
And I've got more comfortable with my own nails.
And I do try to keep them at a not feminine length, but a
(21:34):
little less than working on a car length, you know, trying to
keep it a little bit of length to it.
So I got way more comfortable inmy own body versus using
acrylics to get that job done. So that was one I wanted to do
as an honorary mention, and the one thing that Judy also brought
up to me, which I thought was hilarious, so I have to say it.
Pure. A razor.
(21:55):
What accessory could I never live without?
Is this razor? A case.
To make sure I get to where I'm going for my family deal.
OK, four and five. I love how those got snuck in
there. And yes, you know grooming
accessories are as important fora variety of different reasons.
(22:15):
Speaking of nails are also will distract me look at these nails
I. Know I saw those the the
socials. I know.
All right, First of all, people, someone asked me, are they cat
eyes? Are they Chrome?
I'm like well I was told I was getting Chrome but I think
there's the cat eye within the powder that how cool it is.
(22:38):
It is so cool. So like you're destined and
you'd look like you're like I'm.An X man, Yeah.
I was just gonna say, like a comic book hero.
Where? You're like surfer, right?
Like I don't even know what thatmeans, but I literally love it.
And I just, and then when it's not in the lighting that I'm
showing you right now and it's like this beautiful tin color.
I love it. That used to disappoint me, but
(22:59):
now I'm flipping it at a positive and I'm just like a
beautiful tin color for the people.
Yeah, I saw your soul show. I think you're responding to
Leanne. Maybe I forgot.
Who you were, Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you're both commiserating
about the amazing work done for your nails.
Yeah, it looks gorgeous, love. It thank you.
OK, so let me I'm gonna before Ishare mine, I'm gonna share one
(23:20):
more quote from Shannon Bloom. Oh, shout out spring loaded hoop
earrings. They give the illusion of
pierced ears. They look very natural and so
fat. And in the look books we we
often like to include for peoplethat don't have pierced ears and
(23:40):
more often than not, for a variety of reasons that go
beyond the individual's desire to get them pierced.
Many people don't have the luxury of getting their ears
pierced. So whether it be, you know, a
clip on or a magnet or in this example spring loaded hoop
earrings, that is a fabulous option for those individuals
(24:03):
that are listening that have always wanted earrings but don't
have the piercing to try. Because they definitely make a
difference when it comes to yourjust a lot of positives, your
overall appearance. They can soften your features
balance and balance things out. And we'll get into all the more
deeper benefits in a little bit.Another thing, it could be very
(24:27):
euphoric to feel that weight on your earlobes.
And so just this lovely responsefrom reminds us all of just the
power of of earrings perfect forfeminizing.
So yes, thank you for this answer.
Spring loaded hoop earrings. Love that.
(24:47):
And I love earrings. And I got a problem with my
earlobes. I'm a mutant and not in a good
way. Not like X-Men mutant and I'll
have cool like tin tin talons. It's like anytime I use the clip
ONS within 20 minutes of having my whole look done and walking
out the door, my earlobe just start pulsing with pain.
(25:08):
With these clip ONS, you no matter whether they're screwing
tight or just clippy clip ones. The spring loaded I don't know
much about. I don't know if I've ever tried
those, but yeah, I always end uptaking them off because that
hurts my ear, my ear whole so much.
Not a tea. So anyway, I do like earrings, I
just gave up because it was problematic so.
Yeah, and if you have, I always say that if you have long hair,
(25:33):
that often is enough to give this overall feminine vibe that
earrings can also assist with. So I think they can be a game
changer, but they don't change the game, if that makes sense.
They don't suddenly put you in manned territory if you don't
have it. So try not to be too hard on
yourself if earrings are just something that don't work for
(25:53):
you. I do not think that it is the
ticket to your womanhood. I just think for many and from a
image perspective, it can reallyenhance the feminine face and
overall Polish. So are we ready for my show?
I'm. Ready, baby, I'm ready.
I am, of course, ready to hear all of your top three
(26:14):
accessories. You know I am, but I also know
that we could be talking about this for an hour or more.
So let's take a break here and we will jump right back into
next week's episode with your picks and tips and tricks and
all the amazing knowledge you have on the subject.
How's that sound? Does that sound good?
(26:36):
