(00:08):
And welcome friends across the world.
After a little holidaying sabbatical, we are back with
renewed positivity and enjoymenthaving been in the USA for a few
few weeks. Hope you've missed us as we've
holidayed, but rest assured, we're here with renewed vigor.
I think that's probably the bestway to describe it.
And so many new memories and tales to tell.

(00:30):
Thanks for joining us and welcome to the Great British
Mickey Waffle Live. And

(01:02):
then Truths of form. We started there and actually
realized I didn't even have my headphones.
So I'm a quick, quick scurrying in between in between intro in
the show and actually get into this bit of like, where's the
headphones? It's like it's like first day
back at what you know, first dayback at school and everything.
You just get completely sidestepped by this.

(01:23):
So it seems an age since we werelast live.
It's only been a few weeks and actually I've really missed this
doing this on a Wednesday night. And actually the last time the
forum was actually Matt was actually in person.
We had again, becomes part of the highlight of going away and
actually, you know, being part of that.

(01:45):
So yeah, it's quite nice, wasn'tit?
I quite enjoyed it. Also a big thank you to you guys
for giving up part of your holiday to come and catch up and
things like that. I'm actually, I'm just going to,
I'm going to forget the rest of it.
But yeah. Welcome to Claire, welcome to
Ben, welcome to Becca. And how's the jet lag?

(02:09):
Do you know what I'm not doing too badly at the minute,
Touchwood? It's just one of those.
We've taken some melatonin on the first few days and it's
like, actually, that's why it's all right.
But I'm blaming watching Bake Off last night, which means I
had to step like 10:00. It was like, no, I'm just like I
was. Doing fine until today.
Yeah. It kind.

(02:29):
Of comes back and bakes it, doesn't it?
If I not got any tips to get over jet lag in the comments,
please let us know. We would appreciate them
greatly. Because I know how to get over
the Disney Blues and I think we've already done that.
We've booked another trip. I'm suffering from that one
that's that's definitely, that'sdefinitely high on my not
wanting to go to work syndrome at the moment.

(02:52):
So. Yeah, yeah.
Not very good at all. It was really weird to be live.
It's so weird because I just remember, like you said, John,
the last time we were all together, we were just just
enjoying each other company, notin front of a camera.
Yeah, well, you were all. Tangible.

(03:12):
What a great word, love that. We actually exist.
Wine. Wine was tangible, Becca.
I mean, Claire, the villa you were staying, it was an amazing.
Yeah, it's really nice. Yeah, we've been looked into
staying in the villa at some point when you get to point

(03:34):
where it's like, oh, we need some extra points this trip to
make the trip longer. It's like, no, we've got Book of
Filler instead, just for a few nights.
Yeah, yeah. Go back to the What was it?
I think it was a March show whenwe talked about how to choose a
villa. Now you know why I'm so picky.
Yeah, because how much stuff youcan get in a villa versus
staying on site or off site and hotels, it just it fits

(03:58):
especially for a family. Yeah, absolutely.
Or a group of people who you know don't mind sharing a space
together. Yes.
I must admit we were, we were just the two of us.
Actually we have a villa for thewhole time and actually it
suited us down to the ground because it just made, I don't

(04:19):
know, it's one of the ones that you think, oh, well, you know,
is it a bit extravagant having avilla between two people?
But actually, it wasn't. It was.
Even there for three weeks though, John, so imagine how
much that would have cost staying on side.
Isn't it? It would have been, yeah.
It would have been quite there. It was quite the stay I.
Couldn't imagine staying there like Pop Century for three
weeks. That wouldn't be on my list.

(04:39):
No that I have anything against Pop Century.
No, because it's all but. Interestingly, John and Anson
stayed in a villa that we stayedin previously, which is very
good. Yeah, which was really, which
was absolutely bizarre. Again, it's not the.
One that I'm saying as well. When, when you were, when you
were asked, well, where are you?So we're at Indian Creek.
Oh, whereabouts and so on. It's just on that turn right and

(05:02):
then you turn left. It's on.
Oh, it's not that, in fact. In fact, the first thing you
asked me. Is that the one with the wine
rack? That's exactly.
What? I asked.
You that was. That was the one that was.
OK, we need, we need this filler.
Yeah, we need to start this filler.
It has a wine rack, isn't it? Wine Rack.
And he is. So this filler has a wine rack.

(05:23):
It's a metal wine rack. It's in the corner of the
kitchen. I know exactly where it is.
And it on it, it's not has it has some wine on it.
And it says the little label that says please feel free to
drink, drink the wine, but replenish it with something of
your choice for the next guest. Yeah.
Oh, I love that. Which?
Is a really nice attitude. It's like a book exchange, but
yeah. Yeah, I mean, it's like from the

(05:44):
book. Exchange too, so.
Yeah. Oh, it had that.
You had that as well. Never, never got as far as
looking at books. That was that was too.
It was definitely. Nice in a great location so.
It wasn't. What I liked is then we when we
drove over to Villa from the Polynesian, it was just like
we're driving to a different place of property.
Normally when we're driving you're going to a theme park,

(06:05):
you're going shopping, you've got a destination.
So it felt really weird to be driving off site in sort of fun
to find more residential. Areas.
But also realizing how close youwere.
Crazy, crazy close to getting into the parks as well.
Disney parks especially, you know, it was just like, I think

(06:26):
we were, I think we were 7 minutes to the to the gate of
Animal Kingdom. That was that was just that was,
which again, if you were going to get an Uber into the park, it
cut down on the cost of an Uber as well.
I think how how long it would take you to drive from somewhere
like Portland's Riverside over to Animal Kingdom.
It would be twice that length oftime.

(06:47):
You're actually much closer thanyou think you're.
You'll get you could possibly beoff property, but you have to
select carefully. So sure, I like your idea.
Let's do a Mickey Waffles. Let's do a trick and book a
block of villas. I'm up for that.
Book the street. And we're just like, yeah.

(07:08):
One of the best things though, apart from obviously meeting you
guys, was actually how many people we actually met.
And that villa now has a set of Great British Mickey Waffle beer
mats left on the top of the aforesaid wine rackers.
But we actually, we actually metsome really brilliant people.

(07:29):
And, and one of the nicest things was, you know, it was, I
don't know, it's me being me being me.
And just sort of any time someone starts talking and it
ends up being, oh, by the way, we do a podcast and actually we
had somebody start as an animal Kingdom.
And he's, he's, he's, he's on the dead.

(07:50):
Is it Bingy Bingy 3 who comes from the Wirral?
He's on the dead, but he stoppedus in Animal Kingdom and he
shouts John and I'm looking at this guy.
And it was, it was so nice because actually he didn't
realise the fact that I won't have a clue who he was.
So I was looking at him and it'slike help, help.

(08:12):
And he's like, ah, I'll listen to your podcast and we watch the
Wednesday show. And so we have to chat to him
and his family for about 2530 minutes.
It was lovely. It was one of the real moments.
And then we've got somebody who's joined us in the waffler's
arms. There's a Kate O'Malley who we
met in the Rose and Crown, who'sjoined us.

(08:32):
OK, if you join us for the firsttime, a big welcome to you.
You'll probably be on catch up because what she tends to do is
listen to the the podcast while she's out running, which I
thought, no, that's that's a good one.
And Speaking of Rose and Crown, we also introduced ourselves to
Aaron, who works behind the bar there.
He's on the year long programme Cracking Kid.

(08:53):
Absolutely took really good careof us and I must admit that was
that was a really nice one. And we also met Isabella from
Loughborough who's working in the chip shop next door.
Go and go into Epcot and you seeIsabella from Loughborough says
I'm the handbag. Go and tell her Great British
Mickey Waffle sent it. But yeah, they were, they were

(09:16):
the key ones. I I must admit some of the
people are out there. I know, Claire, you really made
a day because you you took some lovely little gifts for cast
members. And she was really taken by that
as well. So.
Yeah, we had a a really interesting experience in Magic
Kingdom. So we were Lily and I were on
our own. Dan was off doing something
else. So we were on our own.
We had a girls day in Magic Kingdom.

(09:36):
It was really cool. And it was like, can we do the
carousel? So yeah, let's go and do the
carousel. So there was no way.
And it was so we sat down in thecarousel and I looked over from
the cast member. He was sat, he was sort of stood
on the edge. She just had this look of
someone who was having a really bad day.
You know, she's just like rubbing her head.
She looked exhausted. And I just sort of said, I think

(09:57):
the name was Samara. I said Samara.
And she came over and I gave herjust I had taken these little
organza bags inside them. There was like tea, fruit,
salads, A blackjack, a little pot of bubbles.
And we, Millie and I have made bracelets that said magic maker
or like beaded bracelets that said magic maker and a couple of

(10:18):
other bits. And then there was a little poem
that had been written by church EPT about being an amazing cast
member and making the magic for guests.
And I'd put, you know, actually be making you awful at the
bottom. And I just said, look, you look
like you're having a bad day. This is for you.
Thank you for being a cast member.
And, you know, and we wrote the carousel and she's, she
basically looked at me and she went, I'm going to cry and put
sunglasses on and walked away. And then we rode the carousel.

(10:40):
And when we got off, she was waiting for us.
And she was like, is it just thetwo of you?
And I was like, yeah, yeah. And she said, thank you so much.
She said, you actually don't know how much that meant to me
this morning. She said, have you met me
princesses today? And I was like, well, no, She's
like, would you like to? I was like, yeah, OK.
And she said come with me. And she actually took Millie and
I through a different entrance to Princess Fairy Tale Hall.
And we had a unique just the twoof us meet and greet with

(11:03):
Cinderella and Belle. So it was like a little bit of
Pixie dust exchange. It was bizarre.
And I said to her, I didn't do this to get anything special.
I did it because we care about cast members and we want to make
sure you're OK. And we know it's hard work.
And, you know, so actually this was just us being, this was just
something to be nice. But thank you for the little bit
of Pixie dust that she grew away.

(11:24):
So it was a really lovely moment.
Joe something I actually, I think throughout the whole trip,
that was the one thing that I really noticed.
It was just how hard some cast members actually work and how.
Yeah. How much, how much, they just
need that little acknowledgementand that little conversation

(11:45):
and. We gave a number of those little
bags to the the team in the UK pavilion and we were like, and
they were like oh, UK sweets I think.
And we John, we didn't use the pieology voucher, but I did gift
it forwards to one of the UK cast members instead.
So I'm. Like.
Are you? I said.
I'm assuming you're living at swimming across the air.

(12:06):
She was like, yeah, I was like, look, here's 50% of biology
because we haven't used it and stuff.
So she's made-up. She's like, great, we'll have a
tea night out and you know. The thing, the thing that's
funny about that is actually just talking to a guy in
pieology while waiting for me. It's waiting.
For your pizza. Yeah, and but he was actually,
it turned out he was the manager.

(12:26):
And so I told him about Josh andMog being there last year and
how they'd been cast members andthen we'd we'd liked it so much
we'd came come back to your shopagain.
Yeah, we had, we had big plans for big plans for how he's going
to make that an even better store.
So we don't. Gave me some 50% off ones.
He'd be, he'd be right. He'd be really disappointed now

(12:48):
when someone goes in with all their cast member mates.
I'm sure he's still still makingmoney.
I think they are as well. I think they are.
But yeah, it's but it was reallyamazing actually.
And just that little bit of Congress that goes a long way.
Yeah, no, definitely. Can I, can I start?
I'm going to, I'm going to startwith a little bit of a look back

(13:10):
at where some of the things thatwe talked about again and again
and again and what was really clear when we arrived into
Orlando International Airport. I know Ben and Becky, you went
into Tampa, didn't you? Yeah, I want to.
I want to hear what they thoughtof Tampa.
So arriving into Orlando, we hadthe misfortune that both Virgin

(13:36):
flights out of Manchester arrived within 20 minutes of
each other as ours was delayed going out.
It was carnage, right? So you're, it, you're all
basically in that same immigration area.
But the amount of people who didn't realize the difference
between mobile passport control and Ester.
And so they'd have the Ester appon their phone and obviously

(14:00):
have the, oh, I've got, I've gota copy.
Yes, that's my, that's my passport control.
I'll be able to go through that and they'll happen to be
explained to them. No, you haven't done passport.
You need a different app to do MPC.
So again, mobile passport control is a completely separate
thing from your Esther. It was heartbreaking at times

(14:22):
because there were people in front that was in the queue who
were getting closer to the frontof quite a long queue.
It was, you know, it was busy and then they were being turned
away and put at the back of the actual immigration.
And you know when you think, Oh my word, I would not be happy if
that was. Another two hours.
Yeah, you're. Going to get through in 15

(14:44):
minutes or whatever it is. And then it's like, oh, and you
had your planning on what you'regoing to do once you get through
and get bags and all of that. And then you could go, oh,
here's another two hours. Yeah.
Interestingly, at Terminal C when we arrived, the NPC night
lane was the busiest I've ever seen it.
I've never seen it with more than like 5 or 6 people in it.

(15:04):
And usually I've got through that within 10 minutes at the
most. This time we actually waited for
2530 minutes to get through withMPC, and that was significantly
shorter than the other line. So, you know, and people were
trying to work out which was going to be quicker.
And actually I think when they started moving some resources

(15:25):
around it, it changed. But yeah, it I still.
End on having flights land at the same time.
I think this is it is always be quicker to use MPC, but the
problem you're going to get is if there's not as many staff on
at the time, people managing thequeues of going because
sometimes it is difficult to people to understand.
You've got off long flight, you see a sign that says a Global

(15:47):
Entry NPC and then all the otherdifferent sort of like what lane
do we get in and it's with family.
You're like I. Think if you do your research
before you go, you, you would have spent the time really
understanding that or ask people, you know, ask us in the
office arms ask. There's a million Facebook
groups where people ask this on a daily basis.

(16:08):
But I think in terminal C as well, because you're waiting for
your bags 1st and then graduallyas the bags start trickling
through, they come through about10 at a time.
And then by the time you've waited 30 minutes for your bags,
suddenly the line is really long.
Whereas on the other terminals at MCA, obviously you've got
that mad dash off the plane and like a run to the queue to get

(16:29):
there to the front terminal C, it doesn't.
Really bad self waiting well. Right, also taking a selfie of
yourself to put into the MPC appas.
You right. I would love to see somebody on
the. Plane.
We can just, can you just imagine there's people walking
along there. Try like, yeah, half side rate,
yeah. So, yeah, so.

(16:50):
Tell me about Tampa, What was your experience?
Of Tampa amazing best. Easy.
Yeah. Off the plane and through
security and with bags in about half an hour.
Yeah, we were in the yeah, pretty much.
We were on the 1st monorail out of there to to the car rental
place within half. Oh, isn't it?

(17:13):
Oh yeah, so quick. I need a lot of suitcase.
It's the best ride of the trip. What is what was amazing, what
we found different about MPC this time, they didn't look at
our passports. What they wanted to do first was
that whoever took the picture first on the plane and they take
their picture and they load them, they load it up.

(17:34):
So they didn't need to see our passports at all because we did
all of the they. Did it all before.
But what and and it was just it pretty much was like welcome to
the USA. There was no see you later.
Yeah, pretty much. And then what?
What I loved. And since we got through within,
I don't know, 5 minutes, our bads were there pretty much one
straight after the other. There was there was no sort of

(17:57):
way to. This is why Tampa is my favorite
air for the USA. Is my favorite air I.
Love Tampa. It's just so clean, so bright,
so airy. People are nice.
Things were. Not.
It's not busy, It's not crowded.There's a giant Flamingo.
Maybe it's there. Yeah.

(18:18):
And the the the monorail trip tothe car hire garage.
Car hire I have to efficient 6threally efficient and our flight
was so efficient. We landed over an hour early,
got there, got car sorted and wewere on the road.
We were, I got lost getting out of the airport.
But that's more phone connectionfault than because a lot of

(18:39):
newer cars on the entry level don't come with sat nav's built
in. They rely on your phone.
So you plug your phone in but you're in a multi Storey car
park. So it's like instead I have
signal put in Boardwalk and thenit just like didn't get
connection of like 1520 minutes and I went down to 275 and they
were away. It.

(19:00):
Was the scene. It was gorgeous.
But yeah, And it's the turn turned around and we ended up
back there at 9 by 9:00. So yeah, every storm possible.
Past Zephyrhills of Water fame. Oh yes.
It was really good. I'm so much so that I think it's
going to be the one we look at most looking forward.

(19:23):
I know we've already booked Orlando for the next one, but
can't can't complain before he puts a car high for the next one
as well. I don't think there's going to
be many trips in our future thatdon't involve a car.
The freedom of it is just. I mean, we, we had a we had a
slight car issue when we arrived, but we arrived into

(19:45):
MCO, got to the garage, my name was on the board and there was
no paperwork. So I got down.
We prefer Avis, prefer got downstairs and I was like, oh,
name's on the board. Excellent.
The note that Bay, but there wasno paperwork for me.
We went to the Bay. There was no car.
I was like, I don't really around landed a little bit
early, but not a huge amount. So I went to the desk and I

(20:06):
said. This is the Bay I've been put
on, but there's no car there. And she went, where's your
paperwork? I said, there isn't any
paperwork in the tray. So then she's logged in and
she's gone all right. And she printed me some
paperwork and she went go for that car.
So she gave me a different Bay number.
We we walked over to the Bay. There's another family getting
in that car. I was like.
Oh my word. So I'm like, I'm, I'm now

(20:28):
annoyed. So I was storming off back to
the desk and another guest, another Avis employee said, can
I help you? I said, well, yeah, you can.
Number one, there was the first car.
There was no car. Second car, we've been given
that one and someone else is already getting into it.
And we were stood by AGMC, whatever it was same class as
the one we do. And she said just have this one.
And she changed all the paperwork, did it all digitally

(20:50):
online and sent us on our way. And that was all fine.
We got to, we were going straight to Royal Pacific,
checked in. And then the following day we
decided to go out for dinner andI got in a car.
As I was driving down the road it felt a bit weird and actually
we had a we must have had a slowpuncture in the back wheel and

(21:11):
the car tyre pressure was 9. Oh.
PSI So I was then going we need to find a garage.
So we found a garage. We pumped up the tyre, went for
dinner, but I was stressing about it the whole time.
Barely said that I got back to the hotel.
I was like, I need to sort this out.
Have you got a number to concierge?
So I've got a number of Avis andI said, actually it's an Avis

(21:31):
desk in the hotel she'll be there at 8:00 tomorrow, but
here's a number. I rang a user, their phone rang
Avis and said, you know, I need some reassurance that you're
going to sort this out tomorrow.I need to know that I'm not
going to have to deal with this. This is going to ruin my day and
it's really stressing me out. And the woman on the phone was
really abrupt and rude and she just went, yeah, they'll have a
new car for you tomorrow. I was like, so you guaranteed
for me tomorrow that the people here at the hotel are going to

(21:52):
get me a new car. And she went, well, no, I can't
'cause I'm not there. You just have to ask them.
I was like, that's helpful as ithappens.
As it happens, I went to the desk at 8:00 the next morning.
I stayed open, spoke to a lovelylady called Fatiga who was
amazing. She hadn't even logged into a
computer. And I was literally just like I
said, I need a new car. This one's got a slow puncture.

(22:14):
I'm not prepared to keep going on top of it, fuel the the air
and it's, you know, I barely slept worrying about it.
And she was like, I haven't evenlogged in on my computer yet.
But and I was like, look, I'm really sorry to go at you.
So I'm going to go and grab a coffee.
Can I get you one as well? And she looked at me.
I went, can I, can I buy you a coffee?
Assuming she was going to help me, obviously.

(22:36):
So I went and got, I went and got a coffee, came back.
By the time I come back sort of 1015 minutes later, she had
already spoken to her manager and arranged for a new car to
come to the hotel by lunchtime. And she was going to actually
have my number. And she WhatsApp to me as we
were walking around Universal Studios to tell me the car was
there. They've got a Ford Explorer,
which was actually an upgrade from what we already had.

(22:56):
And it was amazing. And we got back to the hotel at
like 3:00. Did the car transfer sorted.
So amazing service from Avis in the Rogue Pacific Hotel, not so
much from their helpline that was not helpful.
But there is something really stressful about, you know,
you're client and you said John, you've had that as well where
you've had A and you're constantly like having to go to

(23:18):
the garage and top up the air and just because you don't have
to go all the way back to the airport to exchange it.
Actually, they were brilliant. They just.
They need another car, but. Not helpful me.
And that's the way it should be.That's the way it should be
dealt when that's the way that you should be treated.
And I think, you know, I actually for fear, for fear of
getting shot down here, I had some really a really good car

(23:40):
hire experience with Hertz as well.
So between the three of us. Yeah, yeah, I'm going to say 3.
Cars. Was incredible, I have to admit,
and the procedure for taking it back was perfect.
Within 20 minutes, I got the message on my phone going like,
yeah, everything's fine, you deposit on its way back to you.
Zero Bill. Zero bill.
It was just like we did the prepaid fuel because I didn't

(24:02):
want to have the fact of and filling up.
I want to leave Disney when I want to leave Disney, not worry
where the next fuel station is. Especially going back to Tampa
actually, because that is a bit of a pain sometimes.
Yeah, yeah, because. You don't know quite how much
fuel it's going to take if there's a career.
Cute traffic jam and stuffy yeah.

(24:24):
Yeah, that makes makes sense. I was.
I was that stupid person who wastrying to put $5 worth of fuel
in them the tank just. Squeezing it in.
Just outside the airport just soI have another receipt and
actually I get the guy is due. I think it was at the the Wawa
about it's about two miles from the airport and he just said you

(24:46):
want the receipt as well, don't you?
And he knew he knew exactly I wasn't prepared to pay the on on
airport petrol station was extortionately pricier.
If you just do a little pre planning, dip in there, fill up
before you actually come back. So I only needed to put in what
was and actually the gauge hasn't moved.
I'm pretty certain I would have.I would have played with it

(25:08):
anyway. I filled up from this in the
Speedway, the boardwalk and got to MCO and the gauge hasn't
moved. I think you can pretty much
drive from Disney to without it without it registering it.
So I've never I've never filled up any closer to the airport
than there. I was being, I was being a good,
good customer. I've still never been to Wawa,

(25:29):
John, though we didn't make it. No.
We didn't. We didn't we?
Made they should put hair in thetie.
That was the nightmare morning. We were offside.
The car was done. Yeah.
And it was like we're trying to get to epic.
We're trying to meet family. We're trying to do all of this
all at once, like and then as literally as soon as we like
just on the I4, it's going like you need to fill out and you

(25:50):
just see it. The air goes down 1 by 1 was
like. Children didn't have my car that
I don't have. Is it GMC?
Yeah, it. Was yeah.
Funky between passengers, I rather than re.
Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
It's just one of those things that happens and you just, and

(26:12):
it was the first time I put fuelin a car in the States, which
was an interesting experience. It's one of those things they've
just not done before. You never think about it.
Yeah, yeah, especially the Teslapeople, didn't you?
So Speedway. Speedway was brilliant.
Just use Apple Pay. Although.
Oh, it was. Really weird though is unlike in
the UK there isn't a different pump for each pet.

(26:36):
So pet pump for diesel pump thingy, it's one pump and then
press the button. Press the button.
Yeah, that that threw me for a minute.
Yeah. Yeah, it's like.
I'd love to look at their CCTV, there's like.
I bet it's an everyday appearance.
Oh, I think it would be. Yeah, he's the one by the

(26:58):
Polynesian, by the Magic Kingdomsort of way.
Yeah, I can't believe that we'veeven looking at car for an
extra, which the original plan was an Uber only, but I've seen
480 lbs for a week and Carl, I am.
He's just been bitten by that cab.
Once you've got the car, you're fine.
Yeah, I thought the Uber cost went had gone up this year a

(27:20):
little bit actually because we've got we got Ubers to Epcot
a couple of times and then we got Uber.
We got an Uber for a mile villa to the Grand Floridian when we
went for dinner at Narcosis and it was more expensive than I
recall. So the minimum from the Villa to
Magic Kings or Epcot was about $22.00.

(27:44):
Yeah. Didn't find it for less than 19.
And then at peak times was 35, which is significantly more than
I recall. So yeah.
See, I never, I never paid that much for, for Uber actually to
go into the parks and back out the parks for us.

(28:06):
I think we were run a par with paying for parking at Disney,
which we we went through about 3or 4 days when we just didn't
move the car. Yeah, sat in the driveway.
We were getting Ubers in and outbecause it just meant we could
go. From here we don't obviously I'm
paying parking because I've got a car.
So, you know, I was counting thebeans in terms of how much it

(28:27):
that the Ubers were costing, so.Yeah, I was counting the beans
on the amount parking was costing me.
I tell you that was that was that was an untold benefit of
having a cast member badge last year where you could actually
get free parking. And it's and it's one I could
very much get used to because actually.
And now it's put your teeth on. And actually 30 and actually

(28:49):
3535 and 55 and actually there is that moment it's a pulse
holder when you drive in and they go, Oh yeah, just drive in.
And it's like, yes, yeah, I've, I've cheated about $35.
I I I just prepaid for it. Happened and if someone in since
we checked into Polynesian but drove into a few parks and they

(29:09):
didn't scan my magic band, I just showed it to them and you
go. Yeah.
And I think if, if you're brazen, sometimes they yeah,
yeah. Quite nice.
I just seen in the the chat, Laura's asking where's the
nearest Bucky's? Laura, I nearly drove us to
Bucky's. The nearest one is Daytona.
It's about an hour and a half drive.
Yeah. And I, yeah.
And I thought about it. I really.

(29:31):
So I had a long conversation with Zac Brown about it.
And I was like, Zac, I really need to go to Bucky's.
And he's like, where's the nearest one?
I was like Daytona. And he said, well, it's not just
a quick swing by Daytona. You know, Claire, it's an hour
and a nice 90 minutes each way. I was like, yeah, but you know
what? It might be worth it.
And I'm so tempted one day just to drive out there and back.

(29:51):
And yeah, we didn't, but I will.Do it H while you're there.
I'm not sure Daytona Beach is all.
The great I've. Got racing cars out there?
Even worse, I'm not interested in any of that.
It's just Bucky's that I want togo to, but you need a whole day
out to do that. So, you know, I think you can

(30:12):
probably make it worthwhile. But.
You know if you've hogged out and too much of Disney and
Universal Drive. It's closer than Vero Beach.
Marginally so, yeah, that's. The same.
Distance. Probably going to Port
Canaveral, isn't it? Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, maybe a bit bit further, but yeah, so we didn't,
we didn't make it lower, but we will do in the future.

(30:33):
Even if I have to go on my own, I need to.
Play a. Solo trip.
Hockey's and yeah, somewhere interesting.
So did we all do anything new this time that we hadn't done
before? Yeah, left, left the kids at
home. That was, it was, it was
different. It was interesting.

(30:55):
And actually I think they they missed it.
They, I think Joe in particular really wishes that he'd come out
and he's only, that's only just come out in the past couple of
days that he really wishes that. But he's off to he's off to
union a couple of weeks time. So I think he's gotten that
whole whole thing. Yeah.
The awareness that he's actuallymoving away is sort of hitting

(31:17):
him as well. So it was a change.
Yeah, very much so. And actually that was, I think
for us, that was the biggest difference is the fact that you
just go and please yourself eachday and that you weren't
thinking about your kids, you weren't thinking about them
getting food, you weren't thinking about anything else.
It was basically do what we wantand when we walked in and and we

(31:39):
were sorted. So yeah, yeah, that was a bit
that was, that was a major difference, must admit.
We we ate at Sebastian's Bistro, which was on our clan as a as a
new place to experience because I'd heard only good things.
And so we took the sky liner over there from the beach club
and we roped in A and local and Zach came with us because it was

(32:03):
a table. It was.
We had three people booked and as a good friend of ours says,
they tend not to offer triangular tables, so there's
always going to be a spare seat.So we roped in Zach and he met
there and we had dinner togetherand it was actually every bit as
good as I had been reading. I was really impressed.
So I had the plant based platter, no jackfruit, and it

(32:28):
was really good. The crab cake was a bit weird
but the rest of the food on there was excellent.
Everyone else had the meat platter.
The salad was incredible. There's a Key Lime dressing.
The bread was really good. They had this weird papaya
butter, which was incredible. The dessert I didn't actually
try because I was so full from everything else.

(32:50):
But we had a great server. He was from London.
His badge said, Orlando, we're like, you are not from here.
He's like, no, I'm not. And yeah, we were sat by the
window and we could see the fireworks going off over the
lake and it was really lovely. Actually.
I totally would go back and it was inexpensive.
I would say it's one of the bestvalue meals, not quite as good

(33:12):
value as the Hootie do, but it'sone of the best value meals that
we had while we were there. Definitely recommend, definitely
go back. I'm going to just pull you on
the hoop Dee Doo as well. Throw away you.
Had the most amazing experience when you went to that as well.
Didn't you? I really did.
And you know what it was? It was a weird evening because

(33:33):
it was really stormy, the weather was rubbish and we got,
we got an Uber to the front of Fort Wilderness and then jumped
on the bus up to Pioneer Hall and we got there about 5 past 8
and there was nobody there. Now I, we were, we were at the
830 show and often when you arrived at half an hour before
there's team teaming with people, you know, they're all

(33:56):
hanging around and I know the weather had something to do with
that. And there was literally like 7
or 8 people and I was like, thisis weird.
Has it been cancelled because they cancelled it a few weeks
earlier on the 8:30. I was like, oh, have we missed a
notification or something? We went and checked in and that
no, all fine. And we got, you know, and got
the little slip of paper and we were waiting to to go in.
And when we went in, we were satat table 25C, which is the best

(34:19):
table in the whole house, which was right at the front on the
right hand side next to the piano and the banjo player.
So we spent, I was so excited. And we sat down the whole hall.
Actually, it was a quiet show. There was only 2/3 of the
downstairs pool. The rest of the place was empty.
Yeah, it was really weird. I've never seen it empty.

(34:40):
I've only ever seen it full. And we sat down and I said to
the person who sat the greeter, and I said, oh, as I'm so
excited to be sat here, I don't suppose you know if it's Randy
Morris playing tonight? And she said, oh, I don't know.
And she disappeared. And then she came back and she
went, I've just checked for you.And it is.
I was like, Oh my God. So for those of you who don't
know, Randy Morris was the original 1971 opening day
Casey's corner pianist. He now plays at the Hoop Dee Doo

(35:02):
three nights a week. And he is the loveliest man.
And he was sat literally from meto the wall here and chatted to
us all evening. The guy and the bandit, I can't
remember his name. He's also really funny and
chatty. And we sat in the band for the
whole evening and it was incredible.
And it was, it really meant I was like, this is so much more

(35:24):
fun than whatever is going to happen on the stage.
And they were, they were so gracious and humble and, yeah,
incredible musicians. So we had an amazing evening.
And with Lisa, we still need to leave him to do.
It's such and The thing is we were talking about it's such a
good value. So it's like for for Category 1
seating, which is where we were that that's like the front

(35:44):
downstairs, you're near to the stage 7499 plus tax.
If you've got an annual pass, you get the discount or DVC, you
get a discount. And for that you get cornbread
salad. You get as much as eat as much
as you. I would care to enjoy fried
chicken, ribs, beans, Mashed potato, Mac and cheese and then

(36:06):
you get Strawberry Shortcake dessert.
Alcohol is included so red wine, white wine, beer, sat white and
red sangria or soft drinks and. Gratuity is.
Gratuity is also included. Oh wow.
OK. And on top of that, you get the
show. So, you know, actually for 7499,

(36:26):
yeah, if you take off your 20% opportunity immediately, you are
already. When you go to some of the
signature restaurants and you'repaying $55 just for an entree,
suddenly the Hoop Dee Doo is like an absolute bargain and
it's so much fun. So we've got a trip next August

(36:47):
when we've got the cruise. So we've got a couple nights for
a couple nights after we're doing, we're not doing the parks
that'd be. It's just the best.
Is it nice to do? Just the best.
So you mentioned a couple of hotels there, Claire as well.
I'm just going to go to Ben and Becker.
So where did you guys stay? We'll go on this one.
We stayed at the Boardwalk and the Poly's Island New Island

(37:08):
tower in the duo studio room. So go on, do tell.
Boardwalk is the last time we stayed at the Boardwalk was
2018. So this is before it's more
recent refurb have. You had a RE, Did you get a
refurbed? Room.
Yeah, the rooms are now refurbished and I have to admit,
loved it. We have, we had world's biggest
balcony. They call it a party balcony but

(37:29):
it's like. A party.
Balcony, but it has two chairs. We didn't have a party on there.
We have a party. It was it was amazing.
But yeah, it's it faces the village garden.
So as you walk down some sort ofboardwalk where you've got the
greenery area so you can, if thethe tree wasn't in the way,

(37:50):
you'd get an incredible view of the airport fireworks and.
I think that tree's growing as well.
Last time it's quite a little bit bigger.
At Christmas you would get a view of the Christmas tree and
stuff that they put up on the green.
Yeah. And what if when you look from a
certain angle and they, you get a good, it's like a cheap
version of the Boardwalk view. So if you look to the left,

(38:13):
you've got all of boardwalk and you've got UC Beach in York.
And it was just, and how many times in the morning we'll just
like get and just like with the humidity in the morning and just
that all landed weather for sunrises.
And it was just amazing and really good space.
And they've done a few changes inside the room forever.

(38:35):
Been there before. Storage was lacking.
OK, it's there was only like 1 big two big drawers but that was
it. So you compare that to the
amount of storage in the Duo studio at the Poly.
There was more storage at the Duo studio at the Poly than
there was in the standard studio.
Interesting. Yeah, and the duo.

(38:57):
Considering the boardwalk sleeps5 people.
Oh wow. Yeah, that's a bit odd.
There 5 naked people, yeah. With no luggage.
Yeah, sharing clothes. It's.
It's got the the King's eyes, the pull down, Murphy and the
Little and. Oh wow, under under TV.
But no where to put a new. Bed, but no one's got anything.
You've got your normal under thebed and put your luggage.

(39:20):
I suppose if they've got the pull down onto the TV, that's
where you would have a that's. Why they used to have and why
they used to have A and also where the two drawers were
before used to be a big white cabinet which had four drawers.
So. And that's now gone.
That's gone now into two drawersand they've got rid of a table
and you've got it's, there's a lot of space in there, but I

(39:40):
think they needed to put more storage.
Yeah. Felt bigger.
It felt like with one bill of Saratoga's Prudence just since
that's but in a better location next to Epcot and Hollywood
Studio. And I have to admit, if we're
ever looking for a resort they're going to stay at board
is going to be higher Poly list and then then we move to the

(40:02):
Poly. Yeah, so go on.
What did you make of that? Because actually some of the
photos from there just look amazing.
Oh. Jess yeah, absolutely
incredible. We've said that Polynesian
before where we've stayed in theoriginal DVC studio rooms, which
are the complete opposite end ofthe resort where they were by
the monorail. Yeah, they're over by the.
TTC Yeah, yeah. So being the opposite end was

(40:25):
was amazing. It was double when we did double
the Grand Floridian, it was like, oh, we were there in like
5 minutes. It was, it was amazing.
The tower just felt, it felt very separate to the Poly, but
also everything was so close. It felt like it was a plus
version of what you've got. The Polynesian Paul was amazing.
It was. Everything about it felt very

(40:49):
much like the Polynesian but just deluxe.
If so, I went and had a look at the the, the lobby of the new
tower when I was there in April. And I, I think that it has still
has that Polynesian feel. And obviously we weren't in the
room, but it felt like it was a really elegant version of the
Poly. Yeah, because of the colours and
you know that sort of white and cream and and wood it.

(41:10):
Reminded me a lot of like Grandestino Tower.
Exactly that. It's sort of that quite grown
up, elegant approach rather thanthe Polly, which is like all
singing or dancing Polynesian and you know, all the all the
stuff. Polly kind of feels more like, I
suppose, that Luhao. Yeah.
Really. Whereas this wheels more like

(41:30):
Hawaii at the beach. Yeah, that the difference
between like Vero Beach, but theyeah, it's, it's really
beautiful in there. Yeah, it's light, Airy.
The room that I did, a room to have each one, which I put up on
the channel at some point, but Ihave to admit, I loved
Polynesian. We stayed, could have stayed

(41:53):
there for the whole trip and across the points.
We've been looking at future trips and as you do, especially
when you're DVC members, you're like, oh, we want to stay back
at Bay Lake Tower at some point and it's cheaper for us to stay
at the Polynesian new tower thanit is set the view we want at
Bailey. And now I'm torn where they're
actually only go back to Polynesia.

(42:15):
Bailey tired for me to seize me cold.
Even with the new refurb, I'm done like, oh, I'm not sure
don't like that enough. No.
And we we did a bit of resort hopping.
We went to Woodness Lodge on ourlast day and gone like I want.
To stay there, we want to stay. There I can see and I.
Want to start the new Lakeshore lodges?
Yes. They look pretty impressive

(42:35):
actually. They say look.
Really. It was strange because I've.
I knew they were building it there.
Yeah, but I'd forgot and suddenly it's there.
Yeah, yeah. I'm trying to find out when
they're going to open because I'm trying to think of what
stage the Polynesian tower was in when that was in that stage.
I think it's going to be 2027 oropening for 27.

(42:57):
Yeah, it's difficult to know because you don't know what
state they are inside. You know, take the, the, you
know, the, the building goes up and then there's a lot of time
spent. When you look at what they're
doing at the Polynesian at the minute, around like the sort of
car park and the entrances and everything is, I'm so glad we
were in the tower where everything felt finished.
We got our own separate car parkthen.

(43:18):
She's always quite interesting trying to tap your magic band in
when it's on the broad race then.
And trying to reach over and carclose enough to the thing and.
Yeah, well, at one point Becca jumped out the car and went
round. Really.
Yeah, yeah. And then you drove back.
You drove off. I was.
That's absolutely. What you have, you said.
I'll meet you through the other side and I went to.
Drive just to go and stop at theother side of barrier so I could

(43:40):
pop back in the car. I went parked the car.
Yeah, I thought I would have done.
This. Now I'd go racing off my car.
It was amazing, Yeah. I don't know why I can't believe
that we were there last week. It was really weird.
But yeah, I would compare because a lot of people are

(44:01):
looking at DVC. You've looked at like Riviera
Tower Studios versus the size ofwhat you get, the Polynesian.
Polynesian ones are huge in comparison to the ones that
Riviera and the point isn't much.
I mean, that's mostly because the Riviera ones taken up with
the bathroom. They have a huge bathroom,
smaller bedroom where Here's theother way around.

(44:23):
Yeah, there's more than one of the big space, Yeah.
Claire now you stayed you, you actually not only did develop
develop a bit, but you actually did Universal all the Universal
Hotel and you did the beach. Club we did so, yeah.
So we stayed at Rob Pacific and I know that Ben and Becca, you
stayed there before, haven't you?

(44:44):
And we stayed at Hard Rock before.
I would absolutely go back to Rob Pacific over Hard Rock.
The cost difference is quite significant actually.
It's you know, £300 a night different and it's no further
away. The little walk from the hotel
to City Walk was like 7 minutes at the, you know, the very most.

(45:08):
It was very comfortable, the room was nice, it was clean.
It's not the most inspiring of rooms but the, the whole feel of
the hotel was nice. We used the pool one day and it
was very nice. There's doing a bit of building
work downstairs, which was a pain in the, you know, I think,
you know, there's always going to be bits of refurb going on.
The we didn't really eat in the hotel, so I can't say anything

(45:32):
about the restaurants or, and you know, that the, the quick
service sort of grab and go place was always heaving.
That was the only thing I felt Ifelt needed to be much, much
bigger because the, the, the size of the property.
That's, you know, a peak time. So I went to buy the, the car
woman a coffee. It took me 15 minutes just to
get through the queue and thingslike that.

(45:53):
It was a bit frustrating and really expensive as well.
So. Oh, yeah.
That was the only thing that I found a bit disappointing the
the first day when we arrived, they were giving away free
cocktails in the lobby and I waslike, oh, it's a daily.
And they always had like, different water.
So they had like water like infused with things each day.

(46:15):
So that was quite fun to see what the different things were.
But the team who worked there were great.
They were really friendly, they were really helpful.
Concierge was amazing, Bluggish guys were great.
And I don't really have any complaints.
And I say I would definitely book there very hard drop again
in the future. And then we so we spent three
nights there where we did Epic Universe Islands and Universal

(46:38):
and then we moved down to the beach club.
So this was like Millie had saidshe really wanted to stay at the
beach club. She wanted to use storm Long
Bay. So we spent six nights at the
beach club. We had a standard view room, but
actually when we got there, we were had a small like Julia
balcony that looked over Crescent Lake, which is amazing.
So we could see the boardwalk and wave at Ben and Becca.

(47:00):
But it was it was a nice room. It was like it was airy, it was
clean and there was good storage.
I think 6 nights in one room wasprobably about my maximum I
could have dealt with. I wouldn't have wanted to spend
more than that in in a room altogether.
And there was only three of us. Obviously Morgan didn't come so

(47:20):
I think it was just staying in ahurt.
But the convenience and beach club I still maintain has a bit
like Boardwalk, one of the best locations on property because of
the fact it was 3 minutes in your international gateway or
three minutes and you're on the sky liner, which then takes a
bit longer to get to Hollywood Studios.
And we did have a couple of failed attempts with the the

(47:40):
friendship folks who went and Lightning where we got
offloaded. But you know, beach Club is
always fun. It smells amazing.
They're still doing the the front entrance a little bit.
So it was a bit awkward in termsof getting in and out, but
nothing that would attract. The only thing we did have at
issue is we were there the six nights and for four of the six

(48:03):
nights we were there, it was thedays where there was like the
morning storms, which is really unusual at the back end of
Hurricane Erin. So our ability to use storm
along Bay was severely interrupted.
We kept going and then getting thrown out and it was a bit
frustrating because actually allmillion wanted to simply was use
the pool and the day we set aside as a pool day was then

(48:24):
completely obliterated. It was a storm day.
So we ended up going to the outlet and coming back.
And. So that was a bit of a
frustration, but you know, it was really nice.
We went to, we ended up in Martha's Vineyard on the first
night because we'd plan to go tothe pool and we got to the pool,
literally Millie and Dana got inthe water and then lightning and
we're thrown out. So we ended.

(48:44):
I hadn't even made it downstairsat that point.
I was still unpacking stuff. And we got to and they were
down. Message me like, we're in
Martha's Vineyard. My goodness, this is the place
of 0 atmosphere. We've been there.
We've been there because there was neighbor in the abracadabra
once and we were walked along. Weird.
Yeah. I mean, the server was unusual

(49:11):
and, and a bit awkward. You know, he kept coming over,
sort of loitering, saying nothing and then walking away
again. And it's like, do you want my
order or do you not or what? What's the problem?
And it was just really strange. It's such a it's sort of like a
cavernous open hole and there's no atmosphere at all the drinks.
It's like a void. It's just there's nothing.

(49:32):
It's like a holding zone. It feels like an airport lounge.
The drinks are the same as you get anywhere else on property.
Not cheap and I just I yeah I would avoid like the plague in
the future. They are standing Disney drinks.
It's like there's just, why do you look everywhere?
It's like. I'd rather go over to the Island
Compass line job. I think this time I wouldn't go
back there. So that was my avoid, avoid

(49:55):
Martha's Vineyard. I can see why it was shutting so
long. We had amazing surface island
compass this year. Yeah, we didn't make it there.
Yeah. It took the service Encompass
and Food Air. Encompass is very hit and miss.
It was a hit that year. Sean's just said Martha's
Vineyards, like closed down airport.
Do you know what it reminds me of?

(50:16):
Do you remember the old lounge at Sanford airport, the Royal
Palm lounge? John, I don't know if you ever
went through Sanford. Never.
I've never been at Sanford in your.
Life it is like the IT looked like the furniture had come from
an old people's home and kind ofsmelt similar.
And you know, it's just like this dirty room with some like

(50:40):
comfy furniture thrown in. And that's kind of how Martha's
Vineyard feels to me. It was just, yeah, wouldn't go
back there. We did use the pool a little
bit, but it and actually we had a really interesting afternoon
sitting at Hurricane Hannahs when we got thrown out of the
water because of the lightning. We sat in the bar and had OK
Hannahs and had a chat with somepeople from Vermont.
A couple of them were coming to the UK in September, so we had a

(51:01):
long chat. I gave them some information,
they were going to Edinburgh, I gave them some ideas of where to
go and we hadn't. They tried my prawn cocktail
Pringles that I had with me. But we had a really cool
afternoon chatting with them. So you know, there are swings
and roundabouts these things. You make you Disney friends.
Yeah, it's true. I got chatting to a family and
it was a creations on the last night it was it was chucking

(51:24):
down the rain outside. I went in and bought a few a few
things and it was just like it was that he was standing by like
the carrier bags on the mobile checkout and we've just like
started talking and was just like British accent.
And then we just started talkingand end up talking about DVC,
something about the podcast. It was just one of those really
bizarre things that actually we were just and then we saw the.

(51:47):
Sitting outside waiting for him with the rest of the family,
wondering where he's got to, chatting to some people.
Thank you for. Giving DVC advice.
What is either running to someone new or someone that
already listens to the shower and no chat?
So I've just seen in the chat that Lisa's asked what our

(52:07):
thoughts were on Epic. Now I don't know whether we want
to cover this tonight. We want to do a whole show on
it. And we want to end up doing.
Maybe we do next week. Yeah.
I, I think that's where we, I think, I think let's touch on
that next week because actually I think it is.
Worthy next week. It's a worthy of a show all of
its own and I think I think there's so many different takes

(52:30):
on it that we won't do it justice in like 10. 15 minutes
and I. Know a lot of people, you know,
I know people have gone this week are already looking for
advice as to, you know, what didyou think?
And this that and the other. And actually, we, we walked in
there without having done any preparation whatsoever.

(52:53):
And we got, we liked it, I'll put it that way.
And we got away with it. So yeah.
Let's do that next week. I think that'd be cool so.
Fair warning, Sean, if you don'twant to know anything about
Epic, don't. TuneIn next week.
Yeah, Yeah, I think that. Or put us on mute, TuneIn.
So we get the numbers and put uson mute, yeah.
And I'm also. I'm going to.

(53:15):
I was just going to, I was goingto ask what people thought of
test track. Is that?
Something new that we all did. We all did.
The new test, they spent all of their budget in the last scene.
The rest of it was nightmare. Yeah.
When was the design your own cara bit?
I just missed test track it justit was just a sit in a car and

(53:37):
go round and it didn't do anything the truck.
'S still there if anyone was worried.
The truck that jumped out of use, Yeah.
That would say is that Disneyland has a better version
of Test Track. Still, that's all I'm going to
say. I was, I was at a real loss for
words. Actually, the first time we went
on, Allison and I have a difference of opinion.

(54:00):
And she actually said, Oh yeah, they've done a really good job
of that. And actually, I respect her
difference of opinion. And then we went on again and
then some of the screens didn't quite work.
So she came off and thought, oh,I've missed something.
We went on again and the screenswere working and she was like,
OK, I kind of get where you're at.

(54:21):
I hated it from the first time Istepped on it.
I just, they've taken out the heartless soul of the whole
thing, and I would much rather they went back to the first
version. Yeah, the second, the second.
World of motion. Now we're talking, aren't we?
You know, but even the first iteration of of test strike with

(54:42):
the with the actual. Crash test dummies and yeah,
yeah. I feel like it it felt like it
was a bare minimum upgrade. Not even sure I wouldn't call it
an upgrade. It's like they had to do it.
They had to do something for a contract.
They were obliged to make an update to it for that.
So they've done that and they haven't really thought about
what they're going to do with it.

(55:02):
So, so we waited in the line, wewaited in the standby line for I
think it was 55 minutes. Oh OK, we did 15.
Right. And we said, you know, we've got
to do it. It's new, we're going to
experience it and we just won't stand by the line is death.
It's just switchbacks. There is nothing like there's a

(55:23):
couple of little bits of a car, but nothing, you know, you
haven't got anything to interestyou at all.
All of that entire area inside the pavilion is now switchbacks.
So there is no saving grace of all.
Now we're at the car design, butit's only two minutes ago.
It's like all of that areas alsoswitchbacks.
And then we got in the car and it was the same.

(55:45):
It's the same, obviously the same track, pretty much the same
ride apart from, as you say, Ben, that final room just before
you go outside. It's like, why?
If you, if you can do that, thenwhy haven't you done that for
the rest of the attraction? Because this is lazy.
From my point of view, this was a lazy overhaul just to be able
to meet contractual agreements, you know?

(56:07):
I would say feel like I'm. A drawing.
Board. It probably worked, I just don't
think that it's. Right.
But I mean, from like what they were doing with what they're
trying to achieve with it from the educational side of like the
LIDAR, I get it, But it doesn't translate well into how the

(56:30):
concept has become reality. So I was disappointed to say the
least. Had the wrong team on it.
They had people were doing the spreadsheets, not people doing
Imagineering. On it felt like.
I don't think I. Guess experience what I don't
think has priority. And it makes you concerned that
if what Disney are doing now with updating attractions.

(56:53):
And I think Robin put this in the chat when we we'd all been
on it and just said it was a lazy overlay, lazy design.
And it was like, what? What else the Disney working at
the minute do we think is going to be a lazy drive?
So now. Don't get me, don't get me
started. I'm.
Anxious about Magic Kingdom, butyou know, we've got probably
four years wait to talk about that, so yes.

(57:17):
I know, I know, I shared something with you guys
yesterday and I don't often do this on on on our show, but
Braden, who does as it Mickey views on YouTube.
That's right. There and and I must admit the
guy doesn't stop for breath and that's it just is full on.
But for such a young lad, he really nails the the whole

(57:42):
argument about an accountant sitting and overseeing where the
budgets for these these so-called enhancements, and he
went a real great detail. It's a lovely it's an hour's
listen, but it's well worth it if you if you want to listen to
something where someone truly has done their homework and he's

(58:05):
not just given an opinion, but backing up with with words that
came from Walt or came from original Imagineers about the
intentions of the original part designs.
It. It really hit the nail for me.
And I've got to say, Neil, Neil has sent it to me and said, Oh,
you need to listen to this because this guy, he's much
younger than you because actually he rants like you as

(58:27):
well. And actually, I can see where
he's coming from because actually it is that little
accountant who's sitting there who is pulling the strings on a
lot of budgets and they're only thinking of profit and loss.
I think one of the saddest things for me this summer was
actually the, you know, the whole lightning lane procedure

(58:49):
has just been embraced so much. And, and I still have a massive
issue with paying for lightning lanes.
I really do. But they seem to be, you know, a
must do for a lot of people who are in the park who want to be
either onto guardians or apply apassage or just avoiding queuing
up for other things as well. And I still, I'm quite proud of

(59:12):
the fact I still didn't succumb to giving an extra $20 per
person as a as a lightning line.I did queue up.
I can do that. I queued up repeatedly for for
Guardians. I was quite glad to do it.
I love the key for guardians. So do I.
It's quite. It's quite the.
Thing is only used to have the virtual key, you still sometimes

(59:34):
have to wait up to an hour anyway.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the.
Lightning line here is perhaps, yeah.
Here's the right corridor. Yeah.
Yeah, that's finally good idea. I never knew that, so there you
go. And and actually the single
rider for test track is basically.
Straight yeah, it's going in, but it's.
Such a such a time saver. It really is, yeah.

(59:57):
Yeah. And talking of other lazy
overhauls. Yeah.
What did you think of the Villains show?
Better than I thought it was going to be, but.
I haven't watched. We need we need anything about
it so. It was, yeah.
Too many screens. I think the screens didn't
bother me too much. What I think the problem with it

(01:00:20):
is, is that it's going to get very boring very quickly.
Yeah, there's not a lot of repeatability in that.
It's a once and done. Isn't it?
I think if they'd had six or seven different villains that
they could rotate out. So you have 3 show that a choice
of seven so you can go back and you can you.
Don't know how you're going to get.
You don't know how you're going to get it's.

(01:00:41):
Going to be surprising and and Disney do show it on the screens
how many different villains Disney has.
Yeah. So actually they they could do
so much more with this. But I think this show has one
thing, one thing only. It's to gauge villains for
villains land. But surely they.
If they'd added more villains toit, they would be able to gauge
which ones are the most popular, but.

(01:01:03):
A bit like we've we've had Lightning McQueen was there
before, we now have Piston Peak Lightning McQueen in Magic
Kingdom. I can't, I just can't listen to
that. It's just like drunken, drunken
Pete. Every time anyone mentioned that
drunken Pete to me, I've just seen Neil's comment as well.
Yeah, Thank. Thank you, Neil.

(01:01:25):
No one. That's quite you, John.
I do feel like that show is justbecoming I, I think that it will
last there for another year, maybe 18 months there.
I think he'll stay until they open a new villains area and
then. I don't know.
You'll be gone before I think, Iguess.
They're going to close that areadown for the overhaul of rock

(01:01:45):
and roller coaster anyway. And I think there'll be a
Muppets Show going in there because that would be ideal for
something, because at least thenyou'll have The Muppets next to
Muppets Roller Coaster. But it really doesn't seem
right. What in The Muppets?
I don't know. It's.
But having Valentine is weird. It just having, you know, it was

(01:02:08):
weird. I never saw that.
I'd avoided it because there's more awful things about it.
But yeah. That whole area doesn't make
sense, but I I think they need to put Muppets in there.
And whether I don't know what what what Disney planning with
The Muppets, who knows. But I worry we're going to get a
lazy. I was watching Jack different

(01:02:29):
DSMY newscast talking about the Hollywood, all the stuff that's
happening opening 2026. And because Rock and Roller
Coaster isn't closed until laterin the year and it's going to be
reopening next year, they're going to do sort of a bit like
test track, just lazy overlay, just a few animatronics in the
queue and makes it muck. That do you know what if they

(01:02:52):
made it show? Animal and the band singing
Aerosmith songs. I would be there for that.
I would say that that would be awesome.
Just use The Muppets to to, you know, have a bit.
You don't need loads of animatronics because you're
going to be going 60 mile an hour.
You need to have decent decent. Make it tongue in cheek.
Make it tongue in cheek. Make it funny about the fact

(01:03:13):
that actually, we've overhauled it, but we've put The Muppets
singing, you know, love in an elevator.
Brilliant. I would be there for that.
You know that that would be funny.
And it would be, you know, that would be a way of accepting it's
a lazy and making making that good.
But I don't think that will be the approach.
I don't think they'll. The Muppets most popular video

(01:03:37):
on YouTube is them singing Bohemian Rhapsody.
Oh, Queen and The Muppets in theRock.
Oh. That's yeah.
And stop me now it would be. Amazing.
That would be superb. And I actually think that's what
will happen. I think we'll just get a new
soundtrack. We'll get, there's not much on
the ride that you can change thefit.
That concerns me is the fact that this time last year we had

(01:03:59):
it reopened after quite a long refurbishment and it was, you
know, it was, it was meant to have been improved.
Nice call there, Charlotte. Dude looks like a lady to Miss
Piggy. What they need, what they need
to sort out is the actual reliability of that ride.

(01:04:22):
Because every time we went on it, it either went tech or we
were queued. You know, there was 1 tower.
I went single rider one time it took me 50 minutes because it
kept going down and it was just like it was, it was very close
to the bit where you say I'm noteven going to call them because
actually it's not worth the hassle.

(01:04:44):
But that goes back. That was the same last year.
They haven't they? Haven't they closed in for like
6 months to do work on it and itwas?
Like done that for the past two or three years as.
Well, yeah, yeah. And that needs to be sorted
before they even start putting Muppets in there.
They get The Muppets who actually did the original.
We've heard that the ride cars get them sorted first.

(01:05:08):
And that's, I think that's the thing.
There's an area waiting to happen there.
And I think the villains, the violence that will very much go
down the line of the cars one when people just decide that,
Nah, I've seen it. Don't need to go again.
Let's let's go and do. Let's go and do.

(01:05:29):
Tower terror. Tower terror again.
That's it there. Was some interesting news over
D23 over the weekend which the colours are changing back the
castle so we're getting rid of the iridescent pink we're going
back to I'm. Slightly sad about that.
I've kind of got used to the pink, I think it I.
I saw a video on TikTok and I can see why they're changing it

(01:05:50):
because the UV rays and the Florida sun.
We're bleaching the paint. Drains out, drains out, yeah,
bleaches the paint. So it's going to be more
maintenance or they go back to acolour scheme that worked Blues
and sort of muted sort. Of the problem with the problem
with the blue, though Ben was, it still required repainting.

(01:06:14):
It's actually regularly in the in the the floor of the
sunshine. There you go.
No, no, we're not bringing back the cake parcel.
Oh no, he's. Rattled your cage tonight.
He's been waiting for us to. Come back, we go off air for
three weeks. It's because he's he's on the
countdown to his next trip. He's getting it all out of the

(01:06:36):
system. That's very cool.
I actually, I actually, I like the idea of just going back to
the grey and blue. I think they could.
They could maybe top that off with the return of the Christmas
dream lights. That would be.
Great. That would be good.
Very nice, but I just. Don't want them to put up a
crane every year. We could do them 33D mapping,

(01:06:58):
I'm just going. To say, well, The thing is,
we're Magic Kingdom now. We're going to get used to
cranes for a while. Yeah, just it'd be fine.
Actually it'll be in view probably when you think where
villains lands going suddenly. Yeah, yeah, very much so.
I'm not going. I'm not going to bite on that
one. What else?
You did, You do, John. Not much.

(01:07:21):
It was more sort of, I'll tell you what we did do, which
actually surprised me. What I know we've, I know for a
long time, we've always, I've always mentioned about how much
I've enjoyed going to Millers. And we went the Millers this
year, they've changed the menu considerably.
And actually we went in to eat and didn't eat.
We just went, ended up having a beer and then decided, yeah,

(01:07:43):
this is. And then we went to Olive
Garden. The menu is much more limited
and the food that came out just didn't look great.
And I was just like, that's a shame.
But again, Zach Brown last year had warned us that there was
changes at the top at Mills and you can see where someone's new
has come in their track change. It isn't the same as it used to

(01:08:06):
be. That was that was quite a
disappointment because like I say, I used to quite enjoy got
the mills. It actually offered quite an
awful lot on on. The value.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We didn't make it there at all.
So that that didn't feature at all the, you know, 19 days,
which is unusual for us as well. But I think we, you know, we'd

(01:08:27):
spoken to you and you said it wasn't brilliant.
And. Yeah.
I think as well, though, Clara, it's only been fair to people
who watch and listen to this. You know, in the past when we've
recommended places, when it kindof goes off the boil a bit, it's
highlighting that as well and just being honest about it
because, you know, I'm very aware, you know, there's some
certain restaurants and certain eateries and all that that goes

(01:08:51):
to goes through a little bit of a trend and they go through this
and everyone says I actually go to place.
And then you go yourself and you're like, hang on a minute.
Really. Yeah, so this is my official
don't go to the Millers, but thebeers the moment.
Yeah, the beers. Where was the best place you
ate? I want to know for from from
you, John Andrew Bennett, Becca.Where was the best place you ate

(01:09:13):
this trip? I know John Self was in the chat
earlier, he probably telling us we're wrong, but I didn't
really. Aim for it.
OK, the best and worst, yeah. Chef de France among.
The show on its own I'll. Be the show 1 in time, but yeah
I'll be the worst one. Yeah, we did.
We did do our trip to Chef de France.

(01:09:34):
We'll we'll cover that, you know.
When we recovered, yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, that's definitely one for,one for.
The Unfortunate Events. Yeah.
Where was the best place? And it's from a fault.
My best meal was it was the Chinese that we have when we

(01:09:55):
were around yours, Claire, And Ithink part of that was the
company. It's the one I.
Don't really enjoy we ever had Chinese.
Food. Yeah, that was me.
That was a highlight of my wholeholiday, yeah.
So it was the context meal. We had our lovely dinner and we
invited around Ben Becker, John and Allison and Zac Brown
obviously to come round for an evening.

(01:10:15):
And we ordered in Chinese food with John's favorite Chinese,
which was Chinese 126. 126 on the 192 and.
They. Do deliver, but phone them.
Phone them directly. You get it cheaper than doing.
It there you are. And we ordered something and we
ordered the point of choosing what.
And Ben and Becca both went, we'd never had Chinese.

(01:10:36):
And we were like. I'm trying to eat in
restaurants. Not what?
Not take out. I've never had Chinese before.
They didn't have had Chinese food at all.
And then we were like, what do you mean you've never had
Chinese? All of our faces are like what?
I. Was about to say Zach.

(01:10:56):
Zach was in shock. Even Billy went.
Are you serious? So yeah, we, we had to, we had
to take out. It was really fun and we have
lots of different things and yeah, so that was an interesting
experience. That's really interesting.
That was one of your favorite things?
That was what was my favorite meal.
Wow. What about you, Ben?
Ikis Ikis for breakfast surprised me actually.

(01:11:18):
I couldn't complain with a waffle.
It was it was lovely and we had so many good breakfasts.
It's difficult to compare. I think by the end of the trip I
was like, my appetite had just suppressed so much.
Maybe it was just August, humidity, the heat by the end of
it, it's like we've learned now that beginner's trip, the bigger
meals and then towards the end of the trip, like you end up not

(01:11:40):
want to eat as much and have to be Kiki's just hit the point at
a time. We went and it was lovely.
Florida Waffle, which was the lowest calorie item on the menu,
591. Calories.
That's saying something. Yeah, I was going to say that.
That's what. About you, John, somewhere.

(01:12:00):
Oh damn, the best is probably going to be Olive Garden and
basically because it was 2 mealsin one, which is what we what,
what we got to, what we got to take back to the villa with us
dinners for the the next night. And then we also had some garlic
bread that actually did this thefollowing day as well.

(01:12:20):
So it was it was one of those meals keeps on giving and it
certainly it certainly did. And actually that was, that was
a really nice experience. And, and we'd, we'd not been to
Olive Garden for a long time. And then we went once last year
and thought, oh, this is a bit bit of all right.
The only problem is you load up on bread and and I do like me

(01:12:44):
soup. So I had the soup and then by
the time the main course came out, really I didn't, I didn't
really need any of that. The worst one was quite, again
quite controversially, was was when we went to Longhorns and
whilst there was nothing wrong with the actual meal and the
actual service wasn't great, also they'd run out of wine.

(01:13:09):
Now, now that might appear to. Yeah, how you do that.
And I think, I think it was a busy night.
So it was a Friday or a Saturdaynight.
We went and how you run out. Yeah, how you run out.
You can't, you're not going to sell me a bottle of Pinot
Grigio. Not for just, not just for my
myself. I hastened to us.
We were in a Uber and. But yeah.

(01:13:30):
And then so we ended up having abeer and just like, well, that's
a bit of a disappointment. Yeah.
It's just always a bit odd. So you don't have any wine.
And then the state came. It was my mazar.
It was all right. It just wasn't what you'd build
long cons up for. So what we did is we went back
another time. Because I was charitable.

(01:13:52):
If he well, I thought it was as well, but but the second time we
went, we didn't have to wait. We didn't have the Sri Lankans
with because we'd been on the wait list the first time and
then they'd taken us off the wait list having checked in at
the desk. And then you're sitting there
like, you know, you're sitting there and you're like, hang on a
minute, we're not getting shouted for you.

(01:14:14):
Oh, we sent you a text. Well, they sent a text to
Alison's phone, but Alison's phone doesn't accept text
because you was on a eson. I said we told you we were here.
Oh really? And just like, come on, do
yourself the favour. But the second time we went it
was much better. The food was good, but again, it
was noticeably quiet. And this seems to be a thing

(01:14:38):
that in the past you go past restaurants being in the Orlando
area in August at tee times, thenight and be people queuing
outside. Right.
There was a definitive drop off in the amount of people who were
eating out and and I would probably say that's a lot to do
with the state of play within America at the moment where

(01:15:00):
people are are very much aware that the the price of eating out
for them seems to be massively increased.
For us. It's still miles cheaper than is
at home. So you don't really notice it,
but nowhere near the amount of people and going back to
European to do experienced. Client never seen people like
that. No, yeah, yeah.

(01:15:20):
And, and even even some of the restaurants within each of the
the parks, there was so much walk up availability and you're
thinking, hang on, this is this is unheard of.
And I yeah, yeah. And and again, going back to,
you know, Long Collins, when you're looking at their price of
a steak in comparison to a Disney steak is double if not

(01:15:45):
more. And you can actually understand
why people people are choosing. If I'm, if I'm paying for a pop,
a popcorn bucket or I'm paying for a lightning lane, I'm not
going to pay for I'm not paying for food as well.
And people are making very much in more informed choices rather
than it being I'm on holiday, I'll go and enjoy whatever I

(01:16:06):
want. There was, I think there's been
a massive downturn in that. And the little accountant guy,
he's going to be very unhappy atthe end of the year when he sits
down and realizes that people actually the net spend is
probably the same, but they're spending it on different things.
You're right. Yeah, you're right.
Totally agree. John, you're talking about

(01:16:26):
Longhorns. Reminded me that actually we had
a horrific experience in Longhorns, and that was probably
one of the worst of Yeah, this one was generally.
Three different restaurants, 3 different long.
Times, I know. Yeah, the.
Food. The food itself was fine, the
service was. It wasn't great for me.
Yeah. I didn't.

(01:16:47):
I was at that point once eating food and we're going to can we
just leave? Yeah.
I just. Yeah, that was more the white.
Though though the white was ridiculous and the noise level
in the restaurant, there was a huge party going on which we
didn't know about, but if we're waiting for ages and it was just
the service of rude. Yeah.
So it just wasn't like that. And you get to the point when

(01:17:10):
you're eating and you go like, Icould have just chosen somewhere
else. Can we go to Blaze Pizza, pay
the same? Yes.
All like significantly less, yeah.
OK, yeah, Go to Pieology. Going outside to the manager.
It's up near. It's up near Flamingo Crack.
Opposite. It is a real little hidden gem
and it's the same principle as Blaze.

(01:17:33):
It's really it's you basically get what you what you want.
There's so many. Claire, did we ask you what your
favorite and least? Favorite.
So no, but I it's really difficult actually because we
had probably a a bit of a tail of two halves.
So we had some really great restaurants and then we had some
and that were not so great, but not very much in the middle.

(01:17:56):
So we we ended up at lunch at the Boathouse one day when we've
been to the outlet and we came back and we just like, oh,
should we go to Blaze Pizza? And I was like, no, I want an
alcohol spritz. We're going to go to the
boathouse. And actually we had an amazing
lunch. They've changed the menu a
little bit. They've taken the mahi mahi off
the menu and swapped it for a grouper.

(01:18:17):
And he was like, you know, therewas a number of different
changes which were a bit, not sosure about that.
But actually, I had the fish tacos as I always do, and they
were great. I did have an apple spritz too.
And Milly had a steak that was like, amazing.
It was. And yeah, it wasn't cheap, but
actually it was a really, reallygreat meal.
We also had a good meal at Narcosis or narcosis.

(01:18:38):
I don't know how you say it. Does anyone know?
Yeah, to get to the Cambodian construction.
I mean, that was horrific walking through the lobby and
just like I wanted to cry the mess they've made of that.
And then actually today on my time hop came up a photo from
two years ago and I was like, this is beautiful what they've
done. I would still say our best value
meal and probably some of the best food we ate and I, I know

(01:19:01):
I've talked about this restaurant before, was at
Chili's. So we went to Chili's on a
Friday evening before we went toEpcot.
We had then you get chips and salsa.
Anyway, we got a queso, Dan and I both had an entree, mini had
an entree, Dan had a Margarita, I had a beer, mini had a soda.
And then we got a tres leches cake.

(01:19:21):
Dessert to go. And the cost for the three of
us, including gratuity for all of that was just under $90.00.
Yeah, super. Deep can't complain.
And that and it's all fresh, it's all cooked on site, it's
all delivered to the table so hot you can't eat it, which is
unusual. And you know, the service was

(01:19:42):
great. So I think, you know, there are
still places where the service and the food is outstanding for
a good value. Equally, Chef de France will
cover that in a future show. We also went to Hacienda de San
Angelo, which we went to last year, had a great meal.
This year, not so much. They've taken off a couple of
things off the menu for the onlyvegetarian option.

(01:20:05):
It was something that I didn't like and they said, Oh well, we
can do this option, but we'll take the meat out.
And it was disgusting. Dan had something that was super
salty. They took one of them off the
off the bill, but it was like really quite disappointing.
The service wasn't great, so I wouldn't be in a rush to go back
there. So I think it really was.
Obviously we had the long haul and similar situation and I just

(01:20:27):
think it was a real mismatch of some places that were really
good and some places that left alot to be desired.
There wasn't really anything midlevel.
The server that we had at Tony's.
Oh, my God. So we went sort of right.
The night, the Halloween party, we went to Tony's Town Square.
I booked it for three people. We turned up and I'd increased

(01:20:48):
it to 5. Ben and Becca were with us and
was like, can we, can we bump itup to five?
Yeah, not a problem at all. That was no problem.
I swear to the the server, I think he must have worked at all
and immigration previously he had zero like his.
He could not have been less interested and less it's, you
know, just he, he wasn't rude, but it was verging on rude.

(01:21:14):
He may have cracked a smile towards the end, but briefly.
It may have been wind. I'm not entirely sure it wasn't.
And the food was good. The food was nice, but he was
miserable. You know, I get it.
It's a Halloween party night. The restaurant's probably going
to be busy later, but, you know, come on.

(01:21:35):
So yeah, that was a it was an experience.
And that's sad really, because actually I think, you know, I
think in the past you would always know places that you
could go and the servers would servers would actually be as
good as or if not better than food.
And I think there is a definite downturn in the quality of

(01:21:57):
service. Somewhere I wanted to just
mention and I know where where time has.
Gone and river. But somewhere that we went to
that was recommended to to us bymy cousin was actually
Celebration Brewery Company. So outside Celebration, there's
a whole new building like, you know, residential development.
There's a new Publix there that looks like something out of Men

(01:22:19):
in Black and isn't. It's beautiful and it's a
lovely, new, lovely new store. But Celebration Brewery company
or Brewing Company, it's an on site brewery.
They do loads of different beersand the food was outstanding.
It was so good. It's a very friendly, very

(01:22:40):
comfortable environment. They had some high tops.
They had a couple of sofas and some normal tables sport on the
TV. There was some golf farm.
There was some American footballon and various.
It's a really nice place. We'd normally be going.
We've got the celebration time to happen before.
This is slightly outside of the the town area, so you probably
need a car to get there, but actually I would recommend it.

(01:23:01):
Definitely. The food was incredible.
They did these loaded fries thatwere like the best thing.
I hate probably the whole time we were there.
So definitely recommend. I was like messaging people
going we're here, this is amazing.
You need to go and explore. So yeah, really.
Add that to our list. I'm just looking at the menu
now. Yeah, this looks good.
Yeah, yeah. And the beers were amazing.

(01:23:23):
I had a couple of, I had some sour beers and they're.
Oh, that was so good. So you do online ordering now
available so you can do take outyou but your daughter.
Yeah, and it wasn't particularlybusy.
It was probably like 6070% full of food was quick, it was hot,
it was tasty and the beer, the service was excellent.
So we. Haven't been to the Garden Grill
for a while. We've done it for breakfast, but

(01:23:45):
not for dinner. We did it last year and I wasn't
even impressed, but I think thisconversation highlights the fact
that things change. You have to stay 571 and weren't
particularly impressed by the Mecca.
So and previously we go, yeah, it's amazing there.
And I just think there's so muchsituation within.
Yeah. Company probably for and there
are so many. There are so many things that
you look at that make a good meal.

(01:24:07):
So yes, you need good food. Also, you want a reasonable
level of service. If you don't get one of those,
then it it, yeah. If it's all catastrophic, then
you must be a chef to France. Spoiler alert, yeah.
Well, I can say is a wonderful to stand on our service watching

(01:24:28):
Oh. Blessing.
He was all. Right, he was all right at the
end. We're just going to, yeah, we're
going to leave everyone that. Hanging on that.
Leave him hanging. Eminem songs just going to be on
everyone's head now as well. He didn't look like a sedan.
That was it. No, he was very French.

(01:24:48):
Yeah, definitely. I think we'd probably be wise to
wrap it there. And actually I really, I just
can't believe where the time's gone.
So I know I just say a massive thank you everybody who's been
in the chat tonight. We didn't even we didn't even go
through name checking everybody. So we do apologize for that.
But it's lovely to be back. It's lovely to have so many

(01:25:10):
people following the show. Thank you so much for all your
messages, not just in the chat tonight, but also in the waffles
arms. Just the fact that you've missed
us and actually we really appreciate that.
If you haven't already, listenedto the 1st of September podcast,
which is out. I actually listened back to it
last night purely because it kind of engaged me and I forgot

(01:25:35):
because we recorded it before weall went away.
Robin did such a fabulous job ofactually hosting and actually a
message to say I was really taken by how she kept us.
She kept us in chess. On track.
Yeah. Happy birthday, Simon.
Yeah, Simon out here because they're in.
They're in California, and todayis Simon's birthday.

(01:25:56):
So happy birthday, Simon. Yeah.
But yeah, go back. Listen our first September
podcast because actually it was,it was such a fun show to do.
And it really was, it actually was one of the best shows that
we've done for a long, long timebecause we just went completely
off the season. It was, yeah, it was.
It was really good. It's fun.

(01:26:17):
It's good fun. It sounds like we're going to be
back next Wednesday and we are going to be talking all things
universal. And I think that we haven't
really touched upon universal tonight and I think it's only
fair that we do and we'll do a bit.
Let's do epic. It's going.
To be an epic show. It's certainly, well, maybe

(01:26:40):
until next Wednesday. Thanks for joining us.
And yeah, come and change us in the waffle zone for a little
beer. Get in touch with us.
And until next Wednesday, We'll see you soon.
See you real. Soon.

(01:27:27):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
