(00:07):
Welcome friends across the worldand as we celebrate Guy Fawkes
Night in the UK, things go more with a festive crackle and a
boom at Walt Disney World. We are hopefully going to take
you on a journey to Walt Disney World and share with you some
memories of past Christmas tripstogether with the here and now
within the parks. I'm John, and welcome to the
(00:28):
great British Mickey Waffle Live.
(00:58):
There we go and as there we go, bang on cue that Claire as well
with the dogs. So this is a real this is really
interesting this because actually I can't remember us
being live on Guy Fawkes Night before and it's a really
difficult one for us to gauge who's watching, who's catching
up, who's watching at a later time.
(01:18):
And I know why Claire's dogs, apart from the fact that they're
obviously want them closed, fullof stiff attentions, but also it
is Guy Fawkes Night. And so we do understand the fact
that, you know, the loads of people are actually going to be
out and about tonight in the UK.And if you're from America, you
don't really quite grasp what Guy Fawkes is all about.
(01:39):
So it's probably best I'm not allowed to explain it, because
every time I'll try to explain it on the podcast before I get
into trouble, you say you. Think it edited out.
Yeah, always. And because we're live I can
actually say it, but I won't. I'll be on my best behaviour
otherwise. Otherwise that might be, I
might, I might be on a three-week ban.
(02:01):
But yeah, it's why I'm real. A weird British tradition.
For me, as soon as it's sort of Guy Fox is over, I think about
Christmas or the countdown to Christmas.
It always was that at school because once you've done
fireworks, you that sort of thing.
It was like, yeah, and sort of thinking like Nativity, Advent,
Christmas, I know it's in the wrong order, but it's it's one
(02:26):
of those things I know Claire issort of twitching at the minute
at the mention of the C word that Christmas trees then go up
to the 20th of December and. Not quite 20th, but yeah,
certainly not until I get back from America.
So. But you have a real tray.
That's true. We have a fake.
We have three fake. Trays, yeah.
(02:47):
We've got one now we've got 3. But becoming like Disney when
they like roll out all of the Christmas trees ready to go.
On the 1st of November, obviously.
Of course, I think, well, on the1st of November they didn't do
the normal reveal. There wasn't, there was no
decorations. They'd taken all the pumpkins,
but it wasn't until the 2nd. Of that's where it is.
(03:10):
It's cutbacks. I think we've got a little to
that. Yeah.
Anyway, just before. Yeah.
Claire, can I ask just, you know, I know where I'm going off
topic, are the dogs OK? Because I know dogs are the
biggest, biggest worries when itcomes to Guy Fawkes Night.
And I know that it is a massive issue, so at.
This moment in time, Apollo is absolutely barking non-stop.
(03:33):
But I don't think it's anything to do with fireworks.
We're not anywhere near the fireworks at this moment in
time. I think he's just being pain
because he's 9. He's a teenager sharing his
feelings, shall we say, and he'll be like, be quite vocal,
so he's fine. Good, glad to hear it.
(03:56):
Yeah. Thank you anyway.
Yeah, Anyway, now, now we know the dogs are out, right?
I'll, I'll start by welcoming you guys into the show because
we didn't even get as far as that celebrating the life of Guy
Fawkes or demise a guy, folks, or I'm burning them on the top
of a bonfire. I just I don't, it doesn't quite
(04:16):
sit right on me. So it's a bit of a bit of a
bizarre one, but we'll move on. Welcome, Ben and Becca, thank
you for joining us. How's how's things down at your
bit? You know, a surprisingly warm.
Yeah, it's like last week we were talking about like having
the heating on and just like, it's really weird.
It just doesn't feel. Yeah, it's, it's still early
(04:36):
November. It's not, it's not Christmas Eve
yet. It won't be long before there's
a Christmas tree behind us. Yeah, give it a couple of weeks.
I do want to have, I do want to have the Christmas tree up in
the background before we record. The 1st of December show.
Oh, look, look, see what I've got?
Look, I've got this Mickey Mouselook.
This, this is absolutely great. This is beautiful list.
(04:57):
This is, there is a mini that's available as well.
And if you're in the UK, they'reavailable at Argos.
They're only £20, but I bought this about six weeks ago because
actually, for as much as I get criticized for not waiting
Christmas, I saw somebody walking around Sainsbury's with
this and I actually, yeah, when you do a little bit of work and
(05:18):
they hang them, there's an Argosattached to the Sainsbury's.
I know where, I know where they got it.
So I went back. So took me shopping, went in the
car, checked in the car and thenI bought this in an instant.
And she's quite, she's quite unlike me, but I do like it.
I just thought it was lovely. It sounds like Claire's already
searching it. Speaking, speaking, this house,
(05:41):
did you hear the helicopter comein just over just now?
I think it's a, it's the air ambulance.
I think it's just landed at hospital, so I'm just looking at
where he's going now. That's it.
I don't just use flight radar for when I'm I'm you guys when
(06:01):
you're flying and things like. That John is keeping on track
today. Yeah, yeah, we're all over the
spot. So yeah, we could be an hour and
a half tonight, so that'd be good.
Yeah, I know. Air Ambulance.
There we go. And welcome to Claire.
Hello. How are you all all all went out
(06:22):
after the weekend I. It feels like it was, yes, it
feels like it was like 2 minutesago but also ages ago.
And I know Anna and Callum are away on their honeymoon.
They're having a lovely week away and Anna's mum and dad are
also away having a rest and so it's all quite quiet, which is
(06:42):
nice. It is.
It was an amazing weekend. But yeah, it's quite.
Nice as it should be. A bit down to five, certainly
until Friday anyway, when we've got a another event going on.
How you? Doing you say?
Yeah, non-stop. Yeehaw, it's a barn.
Dobbs, Oh dear me is. That gonna be fun.
(07:03):
That sounds a bit of a hoop Dee Doo moment.
Well, I wish. I I hope it's as popular as the
Hoop Dee Doo, but it's a fundraiser and I'm looking
forward to it. It's going to be fun.
It's good. But yeah, it's all it's all go.
No rest for the wicked, as they say.
Yeah, Yeah. That's good Can also before we
actually start the show, I'm just going to say a massive,
(07:24):
massive shout out to our colleague Robin, who has once
again been been in the hospital and actually is now in recovery,
in recovery. And if you've actually watched
any of Robin's socials, as she had been all the way through a
council journey, she has been very, very open and honest in
(07:45):
her trials and tribulations. I'll put it that way.
And actually she went for an operation on Monday.
And to be honest, the last thingon my mind would be to take a
picture of myself after being anoperation.
But Robin did it, put it on Instagram.
But Robin, we just send you all our love and just hope that you
have a speedy recovery and know she's already got plans for a
(08:09):
little bit of A and the end of the month, so a visit to Walt
Disney World. So that that can only be a good
thing in itself. Always good to have something to
look forward to, especially, yeah, especially a Christmas
trip. Love a Christmas trip I'm.
Not I'm not supposed. To tell what that.
Next one's going to be. Yeah, right.
I'll tell you what let's get let's get the news out of the
(08:31):
way and then we'll talk all Christmas and think Spirit
Jersey Christmas. The whole thing with I think my
family think I've lost the plot somewhere because I normally I
know I'm normally in in teacher mode Christian.
It doesn't get married. Yeah, it doesn't get mentioned
until at least the 1st of December.
So. I think you're right, John.
(08:51):
It's time for the news. There we go.
And as as the news comes on, Claire drops out.
And that's. Yeah, my.
Christmas. Oh, there you go.
What are you? Oh my word.
(09:12):
From the other rhyme. We're going to get.
We're going to get. It was just over there and I
needed to jump up and go and grab it actually got 2, so I'm
going to change it. I've I've well, I've got 4.
Oh, I'm. Just like that, it's.
Like, you really showed me up. Now I'm going to have to, I'm
going to have to find some head work from somewhere.
This. Is this is a so tiki special?
(09:34):
I don't know when it happens in any of our previous years of
podcasting and Christmas shows, but the hat has finally died.
Yeah, I'm so happy. I am I am hunting on vintage and
anyway on eBay. Hunting high and low in a true
Duran Duran country. It was aha.
Not Duran hunting high and low. Yeah, I was.
(09:55):
Always be. Always be hunting high and low.
Yeah. And then yeah, the living
daylights followed afterwards. But shall we talk about
Zootopia? Better Zoo Gather, which opened
yesterday to some of the most incredible sets of reviews.
It is the most amazing. Oh my God, I was reading the
(10:17):
wrong show. I the only best thing I've seen
of it that looks good is I like the sign, the Zootopia sign.
I think that looks good, but apparently it's pretty short.
There's not much to it. Yeah, one thing in the queue
that caught my eye is a nod to Joe Rhodey.
See. I like that.
(10:37):
I like that. Yeah.
Make Joe Rhodey out as being sort of that's.
Probably the highlight of the attraction.
I mean, unlike it's Bud's life, I will go and see this one, OK?
I'm. There in, well, four weeks.
Tomorrow I'm going to Animal Kingdom.
I will go and see it and I will let you know what I think.
Yeah, yeah, I think it's one of them.
(10:59):
It's really important, isn't it?And no, we're really positive
people. And I know that we get that try
to get a positive vibe across topeople.
And yet when something like thisopens, as so often we found
recently, it just seems everything that comes out and
everyone's come out, that's not very good.
Oh, that's not as good as it. Well, it's like you have to do
(11:22):
what that Claire and go and see it yourself.
Yeah, I'll go and give it a go and then I'll report back.
Yeah, and then you can make yourown opinion and then go from
there. Yeah.
I do wonder if it's one of thosethings that people aren't liking
it at the moment because it's replacing It's a Bug Life and
they love that, but. Anyone love that?
(11:44):
No, I don't think, to be honest.Yeah, but people.
Generally just don't like change.
People don't like things going. Don't like things going away and
being replaced, even if they don't like the thing that went
away. Yeah, to be right.
People just like having something to complain.
A year. 2 years Let's. Wait and see.
It might be good, might be good.Yeah, I'm not a great fan of
(12:06):
that. I think from my perspective, and
I think this is possibly why a lot of people are criticizing
it, is the fact that it's actually it's aimed at much at a
much younger audience who previously were crying and and
yeah, and there's probably some kids that have been left
emotionally distraught from going to It's a bug life and and
(12:27):
won't go back ever again and so.Morgan is one of the.
Yeah. But you need to start a new
generation of in that whole factof it's very fact family
friendly and the fact that it's something for young kids.
Now, when you look across the whole of Animal Kingdom at the
moment and you look at some of the restrictions on ride heights
(12:49):
etcetera, there's not a lot if you've got, if you've got
someone who's maybe under the age of five, there's not a lot
on offer for you to keep that child occupied whilst the rest
of the family want to go and ride Everest or they want to go
Pandora. It's not going to happen, is it?
And so I'm thinking that that's possibly where this, this
(13:11):
particular show is actually dropping in because that seems
to be the bit that people are saying it's it's it hasn't got
that darkness to it hasn't got that dark feel to it, hasn't got
that scariness to it. But I think that's probably the
reason why they don't want another generation throwing up
well. If that's people's complaint
(13:32):
that it's not dark and scary enough.
Yeah, it's. Not being in the wrong.
Place I don't know. Isn't it?
It's kind of meant to be family friendly and available for
everyone and all light and magicand happy.
Yeah, everyone's not going to like in everything so.
Then go to Halloween Horror Nights.
Yeah, yeah. I think like we said, I think it
(13:55):
doesn't matter what people do. People are just kind of like
like having a winge about it. So Speaking of having a winge,
let's go. We mentioned this last week and
actually it was about naming astrophys in the Magic Kingdom,
which actually that opened againyesterday.
So that again, that's there, which then follows on for the
(14:15):
fact that in Magic Kingdom all the November dates for Mickey's
very Merry Christmas party have sold out, which I think is quite
impressive. I don't think it's surprising
because I have a cheaper dates. Yeah.
But I don't know, it's I was looking at the prices of what
they are and they're like 180, nine, $199.
(14:35):
And then in December they go up to 230.
I remember when we paid like $17199 last and I was like, wow.
But it's the party hasn't changed, just the price.
OK. And I'm looking forward to
hearing players with you when you get back next month.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.That's almost doubled the price
(14:55):
in less than 10 years. Yeah, yeah.
That was everything else then. Thanks, David.
It kind of fits it. There's definitely a thing stay
in the Magic Kingdom Christmas trees now there.
So obviously you've now got thatperfect, perfect opportunity for
your Instagram wall to have thatperfect shot of the Christmas
(15:20):
tree and the castle and the whole Magic Kingdom just panning
out behind you. And then you realize that
someone's in the background to spoil it because that's what
people do, isn't it? But if yeah, if you've never
been before, get on the go up the steps at the station and you
get, you get rid just slightly left or right of center and you
(15:43):
can get both of both in your photograph.
I love the Christmas tree and Magic Kingdom.
It's what, once it's there because I think we've been there
that first week of November before.
So once you've once Halloween's out the way as the crawling of
the decorations and there's onlya few more days go past, then
the trees there and then music and it's just, it's such.
A it's it's one of them things out Ben.
(16:03):
I think it is is one of those really funny ones because
actually when even I think initially they do a lot of the
filming for the Christmas paradeand stuff that on the first day
and the Christmas tree doesn't go on until the whole Christmas
parade thing is, is sharp. And then it then appears and
it's and then you've got that whole bit of it kind of feels
(16:25):
totally Christmassy and it just changes the part immensely.
I love the whole I think I wouldreally like some lights on the
castle again, but hey, that's maybe asking a little bit too
much at the moment. Got a few projections on more
than you want. I think there's something that
back those dream lights that we used to have on Magic Kingdom,
(16:49):
but I don't think we we missed the crane not being there for
three months putting them up. And that's the that's the other
side to it because when that crane arrived like mid August.
I think they can do it now with Magic Kingdom because there's
going to be a lot more cranes over the next couple of years
with the villains in that song. I was thinking maybe they could
(17:09):
do some kind of projection mapping Christmas like
technology like they did with the wrapping things during the
50th. They do have them, but they just
don't look as good as the actualdream.
Yeah, they were. They were quite something.
Yeah. Other other quick news bits, my
(17:30):
Disney experience, a new featureallowing you to check stock
availability across the shops. Now that could search that could
that could save you an awful lotof either park maneuvering or
certainly having to swap out parks.
If you're looking for one particular piece of merch, I
think that's some of it. And know that cast members
(17:53):
actually had that. Yeah, we used, when I last we
used it in August, we asked one of the cast members about a
particular T-shirt and it was inthe size I wanted.
It was like it was nowhere to befound.
But I remember before COVID thatthere was an app there for about
6 months. It was part of set the shop
Disney app that you could chooseWalt Disney World as your
location, put it in. And and so I'm glad that's
(18:16):
that's come back for guests to be able to use because that's
going to make it a little easier, especially if you've
done that thing where you found something you want and not
altered straight away spend the rest of the trip going like.
That is one. That is one.
Yeah, that is always one such a it's such a frustrating feeling
(18:37):
because you really do, you know, even even this year and and this
normally never happens. I'd seen a T-shirt for Tower of
Terror last year and yeah, when you come away and you're
thinking, I really wish I'd bought that.
And then you put it to one side and it's still, it come months
(18:59):
later, it comes and nags out andit's just like that T-shirt was
really a so I really love that. And then you walk in the first
time we came this this year and we walked in and it was on the,
it was still on the shelf, admittedly not reduced in price,
which was, which was a good signbasically.
So obviously I haven't been to the the outlets and so it was it
(19:21):
was one of them things instant purchase.
I'm having that because actuallyI'll just put part of my brain
to to rest in so much as the fact that I've now got that
T-shirt that I saw last year. Right.
Last bit of news. Now I can't say this without
having a bit of a Monty Pyton thought feel to me.
(19:44):
They have given a name to the brand new bar that's opening in
the lobby of Grand Floridian. And if you've ever watched Monty
Python and the The Parrot sketch, calling about the purge
is possibly not the best thing of all.
(20:05):
Now it's just what? Yeah.
I'm positive it opens next week.Yeah.
It's a means of construction be done and it'll be finished in
that area. But actually I haven't seen a
menu yet. That's the only thing that
happens then, but I know it's out open on the 10th of
November. So.
It went up pretty quickly to be fair to it.
(20:27):
Because there's not much to it, but it's not needed.
I don't know. It's not.
Needed. I don't know.
We'll, we'll see. I'm.
Hoping Claire can add it to her list.
I'm going to sit at the perk. At least things go and visit if
not parent care. I.
Don't know if I'm going to get there.
Yeah, I don't. Yeah, I don't think it'd be top
of my list. Do you think it, when it gets to
(20:49):
like on the hour, do you get like a rendition of the birdie
song or something like that? You know, and everyone goes
around, everyone goes around thelobby doing the birdie dance.
It doesn't bear thinking it could end badly.
Doesn't feel like the kind of. No, but hey, we've said that.
I just want to say at the end and go, I'm just resting.
(21:12):
It does feel like something thatshould be connected to the tiki.
Room. Beautiful plumage.
Yeah, but we used to play. I just.
Don't know what we're talking about.
We will find the Monty piping dead parrots to somewhere on
YouTube and put it in the washing because it's.
(21:33):
It is an ex parrot. John Cleese at his very best.
It's wonderful. Anyway, that's all.
We're going to think about anytime anyone mentions that new
bar. Yeah, very much so.
That came into my head with it. Exactly what you should think
about, because it's about the same ridiculousness.
Yeah, it really is. And can you just before we move
(21:55):
on with the show, can I just saythis week we've had loads and
loads of like food updates, which we're going to talk about.
However, the news and the views coming out of Epcot, I've been
very, very limited. And it's, it's as if Epcot is,
is shut down or something. It's part of the, the shutdown
(22:18):
that the American government arehaving.
It's like we can't do anything Epcot because it's just not
allowed. And so I was watching, I watched
something earlier on Twitter. And if you follow Braden is is
Braden's YouTube is actually very.
Yeah, Mickey, Pete isn't. It yeah, he's very good, but he
was there today and he was goingto community color hall and he
(22:42):
was he was making out. It was his first time.
It wasn't his first time, but the the actual video on his
Twitter feed was actually hilarious as he walks in and he
just goes, oh, just oh, look at oh, it's just a big dining room
that you would find at my college and it hasn't changed.
And just like you think, hang ona minute, you know, it's just
(23:02):
like have have they have they got plans to make it festive and
stuff like, you know, we see obviously hard.
But I think that there may be there may be a little bit of
catch up in, in that part as well.
Because even the food offerings,I know that that was one of the
things that we'd said last week that that tonight we were going
to cover an awful lot of what was available in that car.
(23:24):
We've got nothing, we've got every other part.
I'm trying to remember when whenthey come out last time.
But food and wine doesn't finishtill the 22nd, so I suspect we
won't get anything. Maybe for another week or 10
days perhaps. Because the defensive doesn't
start to kick off till after Thanksgiving since it's 28.
Yeah, so I arrived on the phone,so it's not.
(23:45):
That long away but. It's not.
It's four. It's 43 week, 3 weeks, Yeah.
That's much lighter than the rest of the parks isn't?
It yeah. And we've, you know, we've had
information about everywhere else.
Do you think some things have some forgot to press the button
to? No, I think they're just,
they're just trying to get it right maybe and not.
(24:06):
And Christmas in it generally starts a bit behind the other
ballparks anywhere. And does does candlelight start
on the 28th so. Yeah, it's all after.
Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is late, so I
guess, I guess you know they're.Just it's the main reason why
the other year we decided to go over Christmas or in December,
(24:27):
whereas they're going early November, because if you go
early November, you just get Magic Kingdom and now you
obviously get Jonathan Knights in Hollywood.
So it's it's yeah, it's not a light with Halloween where you
find like it's everywhere from like mid, mid August.
It's more of a gentle roll up over Christmas.
(24:49):
Yeah, yeah. And that's that's weird as well.
And John, we've got some friendsin a chat tonight that we
haven't seen for a little while,so we've got, I haven't.
Even looked in the chat. No, I know.
You haven't. That's why I'm putting you over
there. Heather was here.
Talking. On the money.
Thank you, Heather, for being here early.
Yeah. First, can we also say as well,
(25:10):
and this is this is actually I'mnot we're not Senna.
We didn't really promote this show very well this week because
actually we've just had everyone's had so much on that
it becomes impossible to actually push talk out and
things that. And so when we get the show
together, thanks to Ben and we we just we made that presumption
(25:30):
that people are going to be in the chat and when we find that
they are in the chat, it then shows that and it's so funny
timing. It's really, yeah, like I said.
Last last week confused people because of the four hours and
now it's back to it's not no, it's hot swim back on Sunday.
No, no, their clock went back. Their clocks went back for the
weekend. It was only a week where
normally it's two weeks, so no wonder I'm confused.
(25:53):
No, if you're central time and you're never on time.
Three hours. 75. Hours.
If if what? Time does it.
Have just everyone let us know in the trouble what time it.
Was and there's 8 hours behind us.
Yeah. Yeah, good.
Who else is in the chat? Claire, come on, I love Mogs.
Mogs in the chat. One of our junior apples Hello,
(26:17):
we have got. We've got Jacob in the chat who
says I'm sorry we missed last week because what did we talk?
I can't even remember what we talked about this week.
No, we talked about. Food.
Food in the lounges. Oh yeah, we did Jake, it was the
1st of the month show where we answered your question about
staying off site. So you didn't miss anything last
week other than talking about food and lime juice, which is
(26:39):
worth going back and watching because actually we were all
left very hungry and decided we're never going to book
another ADR in our lives. We're just going to walk up and
eat at the bar, which is great. That sounds we have made that
decision. And Mike, never been to Disney
World during Christmas. Oh, Mike, your trip booked.
(26:59):
You know who else have we? Got It's the most wonderful time
of the year. We've got Robin, I think
sitting, sitting in the sofa, perhaps being looked after by
cats and Simon. So yeah, it's great.
It's nice to see everyone. And if you're in, if you're in
the chat and you haven't said anything, then you know, drop
it. Drop us a message.
(27:20):
We'd like to hear from you. Yeah, and we've actually got a
nice little time check from Heather as well.
It's one 1:00 PM in California. I like that because actually I,
I, I really enjoy that because if you listen to the podcast
and, or even you're, you're watching the catch up and things
like that. When you someone says it's 1:00
PM and suddenly it's a bit like instant jet lag to your day.
(27:44):
You're suddenly scrambling around.
Oh my. Well, I should.
Oh, no, I'm going. They're talking about something
else. Oh, maybe that's just a me.
Thing, you know, no, no, I get it, John.
It's just, it's take me back to when we were in California
earlier this year just like, oh,I can't call home because it's
like the middle of the night. Yeah, it was like, yeah.
You always know that good bit onyour holiday.
(28:05):
And actually I get there quite quickly when I'm on my own,
where you're going to bed as youknow that people at home are
getting up. That's a great feeling.
And you're like, they're messaging people just go to bed.
And they're like, yeah. And Congress was here as well,
he's just said. He's snagging back to his
inspections and like you're getting the messages.
(28:26):
We'll be starting work and following.
Speak for yourself. I just pick up on some, Mog said
in the chat as well. Because actually as part of the,
the junior Great British Mickey Waffle, we've actually, I know
Mog's been busy. I know Josh, Josh has come home
from his three months of travelling around Europe.
(28:46):
And so I'm, I'm surprised my, myInternet feed is actually
holding up as well as it is tonight because I'm pretty
certain he's bleeding my Wi-Fi dry.
Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
Yeah. But that.
But then back at home and you, you know, a matter of weeks ago
was I was saying again, it was just, we just have the house to
(29:09):
ourselves, things like that. Yeah.
That lasted a long time, didn't it?
Like, but hey. It's like when family comes home
for Christmas, it's just like you stuck everything in December
and then it's like, oh, you openthe fridge light.
I ordered enough food and no, you didn't We.
Start. We start that November, then
(29:30):
don't. Need that.
It's for Christmas, Yeah. Don't need that for next week.
Basically it I'm just, I'm goingto pick up on the Christmas, but
I know Ben, you and Becca mentioned already, you've been
at Christmas as well previously and Claire, you've done a
Christmas trip. I have.
(29:51):
Yeah. And what did you make of it?
I think that's that's the thing.Because again, picking up in the
in the chat as well with Mike, who's never been at Walt Disney
World at Christmas, It I, you know, can you tell me your
experience and I'll tell you a little bit of mine.
I mean, I went for five nights two years, three years ago, two
(30:12):
years ago, can't remember with Anna, we went for an A little
girly trip at the beginning of November, the beginning of
December. So the first week of December,
same dates that I think it's pretty much the same dates I'm
going this year. And we did the first year of
Jollywood night. So that must be two years ago.
And we didn't do the Christmas party, but we did do all the
(30:35):
parks and we stayed at Grand Destino.
It was really lovely actually. We had amazing weather, although
our night at Hollywood, at Hollywood Studios, it got a bit
fresh later on in the evening. But I, I really liked it
actually. It was a very different vibe to
(30:56):
going in the summer. It feels quite laid back in
terms of the crack. I think maybe the week that we
were there at the beginning of December, it's not particularly
busy week, just Thanksgiving hasbeen and done and know and
people are sort of in school andstuff.
So I guess we were there a quieter period.
(31:17):
But it was, it was nice. Everything looks pretty.
People are dressed up for Christmas.
It was it was good. We had a nice time.
Yeah, the first two weeks of December are usually like green
on the crowd, like a really good, good time to go.
Yeah, if you can. I'm just, I'm intrigued because
actually it was our first time going with, with the family when
(31:40):
the kids were younger and even, well, even before that, one of
my, my very first trip was over Christmas.
And actually the intention was it was always it's too hot in
the summer, blah, blah, blah. And so, oh, we'll go at
Christmas. So when you start, it's a bit
like saying your first gig was like, like my kids, your first
(32:03):
gig was Bruce Springsteen. So you go at the time where
everything is just so in your face and so different is, is it
just blows you away. I I think that the the like you
said, the vibe at Christmas is just just the most beautiful
thing. I really liked Epcot at
Christmas just because of the diversity of the different
(32:23):
celebrations. And we did spend quite a lot of
time in Epcot and going from country to country and seeing
all the different options to, you know, there was, we did get
caught watching the Santa thing and, and in Norway and had to
try and abstract ourselves quitea while.
But the like the festival holiday booths that they have.
(32:44):
And we did watch Candlelight processional with Zach, which
was awesome. And that was the, that was the
second time I'd been at Christmas.
I went on my own year before andwatched it was that then I just,
I think it just feels different in a, in a really nice way, not
in a it's really busy. People are like head down trying
(33:06):
to get from face to face. It feels like people are more
willing to just take their time because there's stuff to.
See maybe other just everyone's on the same.
It's typical, I think, because not I think I've always found it
very different to go in like summer and just sort of a few
busy a month where everyone's there for a holiday vac sort of
(33:29):
their vacation when you think from like, but everyone's there
for the same particular like sort of Christmas relaxation and
then maybe escape all of that busyness that happens that time
of year. Yeah, I.
Like that? I think the lack of ridiculous
humidity really helps to chill people out.
Yeah, when you're dealing with 90% humidity.
(33:50):
We had the extreme we. First thing in the morning I
was. Going to say when we went over
Christmas we had -2. Yeah, please don't do that in a
couple of weeks time. I've been watching the weather.
I'm just like, I really don't need that because.
You keep seeing that cold like cooling temperatures, it's.
A risk The jeopardy of packing is significant and we.
(34:11):
Didn't know the weather until like 2 days before we went so we
were all ready to pack, thinking, looking at.
We before we went, it was sayingsunshine and.
Late 20s. Mid to late 20s or the whole
trip. Yeah.
And then two days before the cold came in, he didn't say and
it was OK. Yeah.
So it seems charged. I remember the first time I went
(34:34):
with at that time we were quite newly married and things like
that. I can go about about 2002, which
is, which is now going back a sizeable amount of years, which
is quite bizarre. And we got, we got, we got
sucked into that mistake of going into the parks in the
morning and your shorts and T-shirt and you're like, it's
(34:57):
nice and warm. The sun's out.
And then you see people, locals especially have got the big coat
on, the hat on and you're thinking it's dead warm.
What's the problem? And then when the sun disappears
at like 530, you're like, oh, it's.
Cold. It's a bit chilly I've.
(35:18):
Got a coat in the locker? Put your hoodie in the locker.
Job well. Am I going, am I going to buy a
hoodie? And that's the thing.
So yeah, I think it do. And I think that would be my, my
first thing I would say to anyone who's absolutely don't
just yeah, plan ahead. If you come in from the UK and
you may be going for the very first time is don't just expect
(35:39):
it to be really warm. It does.
Once the sun disappears, it gets.
Temperatures as well as the highs.
Yeah, yeah. And that's a that's a bit of a
bizarre 1. The benefit of all that, though,
was that we were there on Christmas Day and Epcot was
empty. Yeah, that was true.
It was really good. You know, we've, we've had so
(35:59):
many we've had as a family, I think we've done 3 Christmases
and it's, it's so special because actually, especially
when the kids were younger, it was it, it was truly magical.
And I know I've said this in a podcast before.
And again, I put a little bit ofa spoiler alert that, you know,
(36:21):
after going to Hollywood Studios.
So, you know, it wasn't, it was the springs and we went to meet
Santa, but my kids couldn't, we couldn't go and see Santa again
anywhere. We actually had met.
We met prophecy, oil Santa. We just met prophecy and that
was it. That was it.
(36:42):
It was just gum. It was just like didn't spoil
it. It was just that moment in time
was so incredible. And so, and that was a bit of
sort of Pixie dust, Disney's kind of thing that he can't, he
couldn't ever replicate it ever again.
Anyway, moving on so let's so we've been at Christmas.
(37:04):
We know it's good, but the things that we were going to
talk about for the whole show and we're now nearly 40 minutes
and we see that was a good I wasa good side on a Wednesday.
You look like, you know, but Disney have actually revealed
another round of festive food and and food and beverages and
we get into this habit. We I think is this now three
(37:27):
weeks in a row that we've actually done food and
beverages? Which is going to make us
hungry. It's always good and actually
we've got loads of things to talk about because actually if
you want to see them online, do go and check out Disney Food
Blog because the photographs that they take of this bits of
food. I want a little bit of feedback.
(37:48):
If you're in the parks in the next, well, next two months,
please take a picture of your food, send it to us and we'll
compare it with what the photograph actually states it
should look like. Because I love the on Disney
parts from how many some of the things like how many many of
these might be AI. So I'm looking at the snowflake
(38:09):
cinnamon roll that you can get Barcelona Lounge and there's two
like white, I think the white chocolates or sugar snowflakes
and they just look like they've been added for the computer
generated. I don't know.
I'll go, I'll go around the positive sign, but I think it's
it's a really good photographer with a really good chef and
(38:33):
they've got the lighting absolutely spot on.
See, I'm not. I'm not going to complain.
I like a cinnamon roll. And if anyone.
Believes what I'm saying. He's doing better than I am,
because actually, yeah, some of it just looks.
Completely. What I like is it's actually
available now, so from November 3rd to January, the first, Yeah,
Barcelona. And that's the thing, quite a
(38:55):
lot of this stuff is now it's. Already available.
Now. Yeah, right.
But and some places going even to the end of January depending
on what it is. So that's even better.
It's all over SO. As I say, we are missing out on
most. Things I think the.
Latest date I saw was the 13th of January but I might have
(39:17):
missed one. So there was a few things that
caught my attention when I was looking at there, like trying to
think what am I going to eat when I'm there?
Because, you know, no point eating boring things when you
could try as festive things. And funny enough, it was a drink
that caught my license because last week we were talking about
bar food, we talked about loungefood and Jock Lindsay's came out
(39:40):
really high on the list and theyhave got, I'm just to bring that
picture up because I think nice. And that is a Jock Lindsay's
holiday sprit, which is Aperol cranberry juice, smoked
cranberry syrup and Prosecco. And that is finished with a
Rosemary sprig now looks like itwould be refreshing at the end
(40:01):
of the day in the parks or something.
You know, it's really. Be nice, it looks festive, but
not it's not covered in glitter and you know, yeah, sugary stuff
if I. Look too.
Christmasy from the picture it just yeah.
But it's good. To make the Rosemary sprig
actually look like a bit of a Christmas tree and yet adds a
(40:24):
bit to the flavour and things. I think that is, I think as we,
as we said the last couple of weeks in Jock Lindsay's things
actually happen within that actually take it to another
level in comparison to a lot of other places.
And that is a, that is a master stroke.
I must admit it's. Really good and jocks has also
got a mine car of meatballs which is which are Maple, Maple
(40:47):
bourbon meatballs, Granny Smith apple and cranberry chutney with
sweet potato hay and thyme. Oh, that sounds very nice.
I don't eat red meat and so and what does that they come in a.
Little. Slave, little Christmas slave.
I'll say Chop Lindsay seems to be one of the very few places
(41:08):
that actually does savoury food everything a lot of the other
places are. Sweet food, very sweet.
Yeah, Gingerbreads. Cookies.
Peppermint in it. Oh, there's nothing wrong with.
Peppermint I like. It could be peppermint or
gingerbread, most of them. But that is Christmas.
The Christmas in America, it's Christmas.
(41:29):
An eggnog. That's the young.
Cinnamon. There's a few cinnamon.
No, do that. They get Starbucks in the UK
doesn't do peppermint, they justfocus on gingerbread,
gingerbread and eggnog. But.
They do have peppermint syrup. They do so.
And you can add it to everythingbecause Millie does it all year
round, yeah. Yeah.
(41:49):
Amarett's has a whole bunch of really amazing looking desserts.
The only challenge for me is ourthings look amazing, but I've
found sometimes the taste isn't quite as sweet.
Stuff is not my bag, but sometimes they look incredible
(42:10):
to the point where you don't really want to eat it.
And. The price you pay being like.
Oh, I could keep it. Yeah.
I feel like I should frame this or something rather than I think
the festival crockenbush is the one that I like to look off,
which it was Christmas tree. So it's like a profiterol and
hazelnut cream profiterol and it's like looks like 2 little
(42:33):
green Christmas tree balls. That's quite nice.
I love that. I made a croc and bouche on
Christmas and a certain finger significantly on the sugar hot
sugar, so I'm quite happy with something else.
Doesn't. Lesson learned.
Yeah, right. I've never done it again.
And then there, as you say, Becca, there's a load of
(42:54):
peppermint tea type things. There's a peppermint brownie
over if you go to Animal Kingdom, is it Creature
Comforts? That's the Starbucks, isn't it?
Yeah, yeah, that's the so they have a chocolate brownie which
has got like a vanilla cream andpeppermint nibs, I guess you
(43:17):
would call them little bits of peppermint tea stuff bark.
Actually, peppermint bark. Yeah, I don't think a bark.
I always think is is a chocolatestuff that's.
Yeah, because little. Pieces Petra made Mandy.
Maybe you have some kind of candy cane.
That's the words sailing. So Diamond Springs, I think
(43:41):
there's quite a few things. There's a really, I think the
best looking thing is probably an amaret and it's the sweater
cake. And it looks like like what I
think was an Aaron sweater. And John, you know what I'm
talking about. You know the proper thick
Scottish Aaron Wool knitter handknitted by your granny's
(44:03):
sweater. You can't.
Play it with a man. One arm longer than the other
and a neck you can barely get your head through.
Cold a sweater. Cold a sweater for a reason as
well. Yeah, as you like.
But I think this is beautiful interms of the way it's been
created. And it's actually, I'm just
going to let you know what's inside it because it's difficult
(44:26):
to to guess. It is a gingerbread chiffon with
marshmallow mousse, milk chocolate mousse, and salted
caramel crispy pearls. So it's it's basically
gingerbread, caramel and chocolate, which is what you
would expect. That wouldn't easily win Bake
Off. Well, she'd hoped so.
(44:46):
It's done professionally. Yeah, that looks amazing.
It really. The photo.
The photo. I think Amarix is one of those
places where stuffed she doesn'tlike the photos.
Yeah, we've never, we've been there.
We've never bought anything because it's like it's just
difficult to try and choose something that looks so amazing
(45:07):
that I'm going to eat. And when I look at some of the
prices and it's like I've. Been there a couple of times and
bought things and taken them to go usually, and I can't say that
we've always gone oh wow, I needto go back and get another one
of those or that was amazing. I think we've gone.
It looks incredible. Doesn't taste quite as good as
it looks often the way. OK, Yeah, it is, it is.
(45:30):
I'm just going to go back to theone I was trying to describe
before and it's the Mickey Whoopie pie, which actually is
plant based chocolate cake sandwich with marshmallow mint
buttercream that's available at Liberty Square Market.
Now if you get to see a picture of that guys, the green just
(45:52):
looks completely as if someone someone's like taken the the
actual colour and just sort of put high a high vis jacket
around it. It's just, it just looks off.
Oh yeah. Oh yeah, It's like the.
Grinch has done. Yeah, it just doesn't look the
right colour green that anyone can actually create a kitchen.
(46:14):
It's some very fluorescent green.
It looks the same sort of green as the Olu male holiday float,
the Dole Whip lime and yeah, then you can get in pineapple at
9:00. Yeah, that's in the party, isn't
it? That's during the very Merry
Christmas party that night. No, they're actually it's going
(46:36):
to be. All the way through.
From the 7th through early January and and it's going to be
again liberty I'll leave on the 6th, so.
I'll miss. That oh, it'll be November 7th
though. November the 7th.
Yeah, yeah. There's quite a lot in Magic
Kingdom because the Golden Oak Outpost, which is that funny
little shed opposite back of Becca spills.
(46:58):
Yeah, isn't it the place where very few?
People actually go and I love the description because it yeah.
It's a shade. Yeah, it's.
Got a really long view as well. Well, I'm not surprised they've
got Yule. Robin, I hope you're listening.
They have yuletide chicken strips which are crispy chicken
strips with sage and cranberry BBQ glaze served with BBQ served
(47:25):
with sweet potato fries. That sounds nice.
OK. It was really good.
So it's basically like Christmasdinner, Yeah.
Or, you know, chicken. Tender.
Yeah, I like. That that has a cheap way of
doing Christmas. I'm good with that.
I'm not sure. Whether my family would happy
happy being served that for dinner.
(47:47):
I think as well again in Magic Kingdom, like the Plaza
restaurant has actually got. Have you?
Seen the cheesecake? Yeah, yeah.
Now the cheesecake is, is quite the thing.
But actually, and and again, no offense if you're not a meat
eater and things like that, but they've got a beef pot roast or
a Turkey meatball. And both of them again, going
(48:10):
away from sort of desserts and things like that, but both of
them look absolutely on point. The sense you mean you're in one
of those wintery kind of moods. And, and actually, you know, if
you, if you were a person who was a bit sort of that way, put
out or put it that way, and you were at home and you fancied
(48:32):
making a bit of Disney food, there were the type of dishes
that that actually would be quite delicious to make for all
the family. You know, I think the Plaza is
totally underrated as a restaurant.
And, you know, maybe that's a shame for another I know we've
talked about. Really.
I love the Plaza restaurant doesn't have any restrooms you
(48:53):
have to go over. The afternoon.
But it's we've eaten there several times, often the night
we've done a Halloween party andwe've come in at 4:00 and had
some food at the Plaza Morgan. Nikki and I ate there in May and
had It's really good. It's very small, that's the only
thing, and there's not a lot of capacity, but the food is
(49:16):
generally good. I've been told their milkshakes
are outstanding and they're bottomless.
Oh, OK. Wow.
They just keep bringing it so and they're similar to the stuff
that Beaches and Cream in terms of I.
Think like we're starting something for next year now
already. Is it?
(49:37):
But again, it's one of those places that we've actually
booked in the past. And then and again, because it's
August and, and, and I think this is, This is why I'd said
this, because actually at this time of year, that's the type of
hearty kind of meal that you've been looking for.
And obviously the food you have, the Turkey meatloaf and the, the
(49:57):
beef pot roast won't be on the menu in the middle of August.
But we've actually, we don't really, you know, I think I've
said this in my trip report thisyear is the fact that both
Alison and I, if we have a coffee and a cinnamon roll,
that'll see us right the way through and we might just get
might just pick an ice cream or something else.
But we're not looking for any more food during the day until
(50:21):
the sun goes down. And so we've ended up in the
past and we cancelled the Plaza as a reservation.
But again, looking at, I'll tellyou.
What they do some really good sandwiches, so they do like a
Turkey club and they do like load of fries, which you can
have us in a tray if you want, you don't have.
To have a might need a might. Need about.
(50:42):
I'm going about a decade since we've been there.
It's really that long. Yeah, Robin disagrees.
In the chat, she says it's overrated.
We've been twice. Once was before either a
Christmas party or Halloween party and it.
Was on our honeymoon. Yeah, that's true.
But yeah, no, I they used to do breakfast.
They tried breakfast there for alittle while, which I don't
(51:05):
think has come back since COVID,but I always think that the
menu, there's something on therethat both of us would.
Have nothing on. I think there's quite a varied
menu. There's usually something for
everyone and I think the only challenge in there is that if
you've got a large group of people you're probably not going
to get them and find a table that will suit.
(51:26):
So I reckon probably the most, the biggest tables are probably
for six and and there isn't a lot of space when you are
sitting down. But I, I think it's, I think
it's like my thought is would I choose the Plaza over Tony's
town square? Yes, I would, every time.
Yeah. Yeah, that's, that's a really,
(51:47):
that's a really good point. And actually just going back to
yourself, Ben, if you're at the Plaza, one of the things that I
think the that does kind of happen is because it's so small,
you actually get a little bit better sort of interaction with.
Yeah, that's the. Service both times was amazing.
I'm and I really do fancy that pistachio and the cherry
(52:10):
cheesecake. I've got a face of that.
Hang on for those who are watching live and you come.
Out or on the catch up, but obviously not if you're on the
I'm not. Sure, like the green icing on
the top. I think that's unnecessary.
I would have. I'd whip that off straight away.
But I think I'm. Liking the sound of the holiday
cosmopolitan that I've got there.
(52:31):
You know what? I'm looking at the rest of the
Plaza menu and I'm going like there's plenty of stuff that I
would have bacon cheeseburger, the crispy treatment sandwich,
all the shakes look really good.OK, I'm.
I remember rightly, first time we went there we had you had the
Turkey sandwich and it was, we didn't realise that it was a
cold sandwich, cooked sandwich. That's true.
(52:55):
Oh yeah, rather than like a burger sandwich, it's an out
brew sandwich. Sandwich sandwich.
Yeah, yeah. And you can also have them
toasted. They'll don't toast it if you
want. Yeah, there's quite a few
options on there. And going from our experience at
Tony's Food in the summer. Yeah, I cannot go.
Back. No.
And actually, you know, in the winter, would I go to Liberty?
Liberty Tree Tavern? Probably.
(53:18):
I've never been, but I think never, never just because we've
been in a warmer month. Exactly.
I wouldn't go there in the middle.
Of that sort of. No.
Like you say, John, you don't actually need very much food
when it's 130° and 95% humidity.Oddly enough, you don't feel
that hungry. Didn't didn't realise that until
we got there in August and actually how much less food that
(53:40):
we consumed than we normally would.
I'm not. Costing flights, but you're
saving money on the food, yeah. We did talk climb for the whole
show and. We did talk last week or was it
last week or it might be the week before we mentioned some at
some point we mentioned. Churros, was it last week?
(54:01):
Was it last week we talked aboutright, So there is a holiday
churro this year in Disney Springs, OK, which looks super
cute and now? They look very similar to ones
that we tried at from cars. Just a little more Christmas
banana and more Christmas. It was a.
Chocolate and banana ones, but that looks really nice.
(54:24):
So obviously churros are never going to be my thing.
They're a bit sweet, a bit too much like a doughnut, but I
think that they they look super cute and I love the way in which
it's presented. Again, it's one of those things
you think, is it ever actually going to look like that?
And that's from Sunshine Churrosin Springs, so.
My only thing is it's a Disney World churro and not as good as
(54:47):
the ones in Disneyland. It's really really weird.
Just something that ones. Is it something to do with the
water or? They're just, they're just, I
think they overcook them. They're just too dry.
So maybe all of that icing and extra stuff on top I.
Wonder if it's just because they're Fresh Room Disneyland.
Yeah. We.
(55:08):
Buy them more often in Disneyland so they're not in out
in the middle of the heat for too long.
There was one other thing at Springs that saw that I thought
would be something I probably would pick up if I was walking
around maybe doing like the Christmas tree stroll or
something like that, which is it's from Marketplace Food and
(55:31):
it's called the Sven Waffle, Sven Cone, I think.
Oh, is that the place you can get the bubble waffles?
Yeah, the marketplace snacks. And so it's it's got vanilla and
chocolate soft serve in the bottom of the cone, which is
like a waffle cone. And then it's topped with
pretzels, M&M's, holiday candy, cinnamon cereal.
(55:51):
So I guess it's like crunch maybe?
Or cinnamon something. I like the pretzels, yes.
So it's got a little bit of not savoury, but not not.
Too sweet? Not all sweet, yeah.
I think it's quite cute. We had one of the normal bubble
waffles, I think so, yeah. And the waffle itself was a
(56:13):
little bit. Sobby.
That's the problem, yeah. So I was hoping that there would
be a holiday poutine or something, but I haven't seen
anything. No, I haven't.
So I think I would. I would go for that.
Over all of it. Yeah, but there were things.
You might do want to let got festival holidays.
(56:35):
Yeah, exactly. That's often the the the poutine
place at Disney Springs has someunique things, but there's
nothing on the list. But doesn't mean it won't
happen. Yeah, that's.
True. But yeah, I think.
I think that's the thing I thinkthat's an important thing to say
is actually, you know, we're, we're talking about this on the
5th of November. And actually, as menus do
(56:58):
change, I know we said very early in the show in in the news
section that we and this and this, this is, this is how this
is how up to date we can be whenwe go live.
But instantly, you know, obviously Disney are listening,
you know, as we're doing this show.
And what they have done is they've actually added the,
(57:21):
they've added the menu for the perch during the course of the
show. No way.
Yes, it's there, I can see. It we just thought it was very
polite of them in a way, you know, but.
The. Garden View Lounge returns in
2026. Yeah.
Is that the with a? New.
A new tea experience. Yeah, I think I clicked on the
(57:45):
wrong 1. So full menu.
This is this is great. This is, you know, I always knew
this has happened. To what am I going to order
then, John, tell me what what I'm going to be doing?
It's a bit it's a bit light on the cocktails.
There's only there's yeah, a Floridian 75, which is a gin,
(58:06):
citrus cordial and lemon with passenger Sassinger Champagne,
which 2022 dollars. OK.
So French 75 is probably in my top three cocktails of all
types. Floridian 75 I'd give that a go.
Yeah, that's not bad. And then there's a, there's one
that especially for Simon because it's got rum in it,
(58:28):
that's only 1750. A big range of wine, OK, A
limited, limited beer range. OK, well.
You're not going to be nipping down to the cellar to change the
pump, are you? From the.
Way, no. But actually that probably
answers a question that we had when we're talking about this
(58:51):
previously as to how this could exist as well as the enchanted
Rose. And the Enchanted Rose menu is
much vast, more vast and much more comprehensive than this.
This is very limited at the at the moment is.
This just for people that just don't want to go up the stairs.
I think it might be right, Ben. If you.
(59:12):
Come from another building and that you're heading out.
I don't know, it's just. When you're arriving.
Isn't it? I don't know.
It's quickly a quick. Drink.
I have a drink plain waiting. I must, I must admit.
I want to know what time it opens in the morning.
A glass of wine at $20 isn't really doing it for me, I must
admit that's. Any food on the menu?
(59:33):
I'm not assuming. I'm not, I'm not as far as that
and don't think they have either.
From what I can, what I can see so fast, there's.
Gonna be any food. There.
So it's just. Apparently, in the carpets that
have been redone in the Grand Floridian, there are now 200 and
hid Well. There's hin Hidden Mickey's
(59:53):
tucked among the 200 individual blossoms on the floor.
Yeah. And that's that carpet.
I think that carpet, when you see it in real life, I think it
will actually become much more Floridian and much, more, much
more realistic as to what you you would, you would think for
that place. I really do.
(01:00:16):
However, on with on with the show, they've got breaking news
as as we as we were doing the show, kind of take it, kind of
take us back. I think we've done most of
watching what's in Magic Kingdomnow.
Claire, you said you've done Jollywood nights.
Benny Beckett, did you do that as well?
No, last time we did Christmas, Jollywood Nights wasn't.
(01:00:36):
Right. No, I haven't.
I haven't. So.
So it's, again, it's one of those experiences that I, yeah,
I think would be remiss of doingthis show and talking about
Hollywood studios without havinga moment's silence to actually
just experience the the sheer enormity and the sheer beauty of
(01:00:58):
the Osborne Christmas lights. Much much much wandered back
again and as every Christmas goes past you remind yourself of
just what a magnificent part of of Hollywood studios that used
to be and and and really you know I I can only be thankful we
(01:01:20):
saw it so many times. But it it remains part of, you
know, the kids still have some of some of their sort of
complete memories of nights there that we we've probably
frozen at death as we were waiting for the lights to start.
And so but they remember it. But it was magnificent.
(01:01:43):
And you couldn't, you couldn't go.
You couldn't replace it. I think they struggled once the
part was being rebuilt. So Jollywood Nights in a way is
a little bit of a way of acknowledging the fact that,
yeah, we need to put some form of entertainment on.
How was it, Claire? So we went the first year and I
(01:02:03):
went and I was very excited because we spent some time in
Hollywood studios and we went and got changed.
We took some stuff to wear, which was fun.
We met the fact we stayed in theline for about 40 minutes before
the party opened so we could start the evening meeting
finished and 3rd, which was awesome.
Yeah, that's that was the most important thing for me.
(01:02:25):
We were like finished and we didn't.
We did see the show with The Muppets, the Hollywood show.
I didn't enjoy it very much. Be honest.
I thought it wasn't particularlywell produced.
I thought the individuals were excellent.
(01:02:45):
I thought the ensemble put together was not well done.
It felt disjointed and poorly. The concept wasn't great.
That was year one. I understand that last year it
improved the jazz band playing down in the path.
The Hollywood Tower courtyard was probably the stand out
(01:03:06):
experience for us in the whole evening.
It was beautiful down there and the bands were amazing.
This, you know, the whole environment and there was
fabulous. Yeah, there's lots of smoke and
it was fun. There was, you know, there's a
couple of drinks carts down there and everyone was just like
hanging out and having fun down there and really beautifully set
(01:03:29):
obviously next to the the Hollywood Tower.
So that was brilliant. We did a couple of other meet
and greets. We met Ed Mode Frozone, we met
Donald Duck and completely brokehim to the point where he had
to. And actually that made it into
(01:03:51):
my speech at the weekend with Anna.
Anna's we broke Donald up because we were wearing
Christmas skirts. I had a green 1 and I had a red
one. It had like white fluff around
the bottom. And we have got Christmas tights
and stuff on and Donald was commenting on the bottom of our
skirts and Anna was like, yes, it's, it's like it's Christmas
scene and it's fluffy. And I can't remember what
(01:04:12):
happened, but Donald was talkingabout the fact that he was quite
wide. And Anna turned round and said,
oh, you're not fat, you're fluffy.
At which point Donald had to walk away because you know, you
know when Donald or a character you can tell just needs a
moment. This is not this is capable.
(01:04:37):
So yes, Donald was doubled over, had to wait for a minute to have
a chat with the character attendant and then come back a
few minutes later, which was very the photo OPS are quite
cool. They've got like the put a 360
photo op and they've got a one which is where the camera spins
around you or comes up close about the queue for those is
(01:04:58):
really long though, and plus they're quite cool and you get
photos included in the cost of the evening.
We didn't, we started queuing for it and then we're just like,
you know what, we just can't be bothered.
And also everyone, what is you doing it so everyone standing in
a queue can see you. So we decided that we didn't
want to wait for that. There was a really cool like
Cuban band with dancing and stuff.
(01:05:20):
They were shoved right down by Baseline Tap House, which was in
the wrong place completely. They should have put them in
their little courtyard, but you know, the courtyard outside the
ABC commissary between that and like Mickey and Minnie's is that
sort of Dead Space they should have put.
That would have been a much better location for them.
The only thing I think we didn'tgo and even bother trying to
watch was the Nightmare Before Christmas show, which is in the
(01:05:42):
Frozen Sing Along Theatre. That's that wasn't for us.
It wasn't our bag. So we did a few attractions but
not huge numbers and it wasn't, it was fine.
I think. Did we get value for money that
first year? Probably not.
Would I go again if I was there longer and perhaps if I wasn't
doing the Christmas party? Because the the Jollywood nights
(01:06:04):
when I'm there are on the day I arrive and the day after I
leave. So there's not, it wasn't an
option. But I know Sean and Michael are
going to Jollywood nights, so I'll be interested to know what
they think. But for me, I having never done
the Christmas party, I wanted tohave something to compare to.
The price is not dissimilar. You know, Johnny would like $30
(01:06:27):
cheaper, but you don't get anything for free.
You know, you don't get any snacks for free.
OK, We've got some coasters thatare somewhere upstairs as you
were leaving. I think it's a bit of a niche
event and there are some really cool meet and greets this year.
So they've got Bing Bong meet and greet, which I'm gutted I'm
(01:06:49):
missing because that would be a reason to go on its own.
You know, they've got Power LineMax and Goofy and yeah, all of
those. So they've got, if you're if
you're into unique niche meet and greets, it's probably a good
evening. Is it worth 180 bucks to do
that? Maybe not.
Just in the atmosphere of Hollywood studios, it was like
Christmas, very Christmas and. That's the same during the day.
(01:07:13):
That didn't change in the evening.
And for me, the the background holiday round Echo Lake is by
far the best in all of Walt Disney World.
That's the one that I listened back-to-back on Christmas Day
for about 6 hours. I just have it playing in the
background on YouTube. But that's the same during the
day. You know, Gertie's got a
Christmas hat on. She's got, you know, she's got a
hat and a Christmas bubble in her mouth and Jollywood night
(01:07:36):
somewhere. You please see, they brought the
Gertie cookie back. We did buy some of those.
I tried to get one home in one piece and really get these.
Men broke in the car. But things like that, they're
really cute. They're, you know, they're
they're fun. But is it worth the money?
I don't know. I think Robin and Robin made
last year maybe and has perhaps more experience of the more
(01:07:58):
recent party, but I'm interestedto see how they plus it each
year. Yeah, I don't know.
I think we're going to make somechanges.
Yeah, if Robin can make it therethis year, then Jolly Wood is
something that should be doing. It's interesting because
actually looking, yeah, I know we spoke about Magic Kingdom and
the food options there, but theyactually the food options within
(01:08:20):
the studios is is very much down.
That Becca, that Becca sort of let's avoid that sort of it's
all sweet because it's all cupcakes and yeah, cupcakes,
milkshakes, cookies. It was a hot cocoa lunch box
town. Yeah, and no thanks.
No, unlike a chocolate Potter mousse.
(01:08:44):
Yeah, when you just like. Angry.
It's the opposite thought of like we've not put any thought
into these ones, It's just they don't kind.
Of I'm the first to admit I likesweet stuff, but I do like the
option of a savoury thing as well.
Every so. Often.
But you can't constantly go a whole day eating sweet stuff,
Yeah? I mean, you probably regret it
(01:09:04):
the following day. I dentisted that.
Yeah. A bit of a predicament if I came
back and leaving that amount of sweet things and things like,
you know. I just think it's for me, it
doesn't hit the mark, but that might just be a preference for
me. And Hollywood Studios is not my
favorite park anyway so. It's always been a difficult one
(01:09:27):
for food. I think every time, and since we
started on this podcast, we've always mentioned it's been the
weakest park we've found for food.
I think it is. I still think it is.
You know what they've added? You know Woody's Roundup BBQ?
She's a fantastic restaurant. There are pockets of good
things, but majority the broaderfood offerings are generally not
(01:09:48):
as good in Hollywood studios. And you think by having a
seasonal event and seasonal options that that might do more.
But it just feels like they're just rolling out.
Oh, here's a seasonal cupcake, or here's a seasonal there's.
Always a cupcake. Yeah.
Yeah, I think, you know, there are lots and lots of seasonal
food offerings around and about and I think and maybe some are
(01:10:08):
definitely better than others. There's a couple of cool ones in
resorts that I saw. As well.
I think that that's something isit's just getting that list
working out. What you must do is wait.
Do you want to any day result can't be.
Everywhere, yeah, I won't have time to do.
I was thinking would I be able to do the monorail loop and you
know, do do a few things, but I just don't think I'm going to
(01:10:28):
have time to be honest with you to short a trip.
Although we will trail the fact that we hope to go live that
Wednesday as. Well.
If we can, so we'll be able to fill, fill in that missing block
from today's show. It's always how we thought about
it. You know, it's as if, you know,
(01:10:49):
again, we're having the breakingnews of the perch and and the
the drinks options there. Disney actually listened to this
show. So if you know, if you haven't
already shared that widely with your friends and you haven't got
them subscribed, just tell them Disney listen to us and they
change. They change their socials mid
show when we're live, which is always a good, good sign, isn't
(01:11:11):
it? I'm I'm I actually think if if I
would say anything about Christmas, I would really urge
anybody to 1. If you want a little bit
Christmas music, go and go and what?
Just get the YouTube that the part loops.
Yeah, the Christmas might do. I might share them tomorrow in
(01:11:32):
the Wapazans ones that I listen to.
There's quite a few that I've said I've listened to that
actually, yeah. And they're going to start
becoming my work background music soon, I think.
Yeah. And then also.
In a few weeks. But if you've heard about the
Disneyland Paris at Christmas, just get shant say Noel, because
because actually as a as a Christmas song and and you need
(01:11:54):
Disney, Disney Christmas music, Disneyland Paris absolutely
nailed it. And and I really do.
That's one thing that I really miss and yeah, it's probably the
only reason they go to Paris at the minute, but.
I was going to say, we've not been to them.
Isn't in Paris at Christmas? Feel like that should be.
Oh OK, I've been a lot at Christmas and it is.
Beautiful. By far the best time to go.
(01:12:16):
Next time we go to Switzerland. It should be Christmas.
And Christmas? Well, no one must.
Admit in like 20 years time. If you think or one dose cold at
Christmas design Paris is. Is.
Oh, it's absolutely. It is cold.
Yeah, it is seen. We've been in February before
and it was cold, but it was. The whole of lake between the
(01:12:37):
hotels was frozen that cold. We we stayed at desert.
We were in David Crockett Ranch in one of the.
Shades in shades. Yep.
The air raid shelters. We did it once.
That was it. Don't.
Don't tick the box, kids. Yeah, they haven't even got
proper heating, have they? It's like, let's sing shots, say
(01:12:58):
novel as we're heading home and put the heating on at home.
Turn the car pad on, but the wayinto the park and the way home,
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. I've much rather said Disneyland
hotel I've I've heard. That's a choir.
And Chris? Sequoia is the Christmas.
I imagine it's gorgeous. That's also don't think the same
(01:13:18):
room we had last time when we were on the corner when we had
that huge help they which we didn't spend any time outside
because it was February. Maybe we should talk.
We should, we should think abouta comparison show.
Maybe I don't like comparing DLPand and it's so different.
But you know, I think, I think there is something about to
sound Paris at Christmas. And I know that Sequoia is about
(01:13:40):
to go into a big refurb and they're going to do sort out all
the lobby. It's never been done.
So the lobby has not been touched since 1992, which is
quite impressive in some ways. Yeah.
So probably time. I'm slightly worried that
they're going to start doing stuff and like find other things
wrong with it. I just.
Yeah. It's gone and it's like, oh,
(01:14:01):
what are they going to find? And actually that that.
Lounge in the lobby is beautiful.
It's got the big open fire in the middle.
I love it and I don't really want to change it, but yeah, I
can't let them sort out the there's a bit of a, you know,
electricity outlets in the room,so they're not hanging out the
wall and stuff like that. But USB ports, Come on, we're
(01:14:23):
it's. Just something 25.
Mind you, you don't need Usbs inDisneyland Paris because the
Wi-Fi is so rubbish. Oh, that's why you stop.
Do. You know, if you want us to talk
about this embarrassed, let us know in the comments.
Send us. Yeah, yeah, Sam Samantha's
mentioned the the lake was frozen when they went and the
snow on Main Street is brilliant.
I can't. I love this when it snows on
(01:14:44):
Main Street and it is very cool.I've got lots of photos of
really as a young girl like dancing around in the snow
because we went every year for about 5 or 6 years in.
With a big coat on and I think that one and that's that's the
thing that always throws. And the red news, is it so cold?
But you look back at the photos there and everything looks
really weird because actually when you get used to, even in
(01:15:07):
even Florida in December, you can get away with T-shirt shorts
and you still get that picture. There's no way in Paris that's
ever going to happen. It is Big coat Hat, yeah.
I love looking back on our trip a couple of years ago when we're
in Epcot and it's like we're golf and just like it was really
(01:15:31):
weird. Yeah, look at that.
We've actually gone from one side the Atlantic back to
outside the Atlantic within one show.
We've covered a whole host of different food options.
We've had breaking news and I think it's probably a good, it's
probably a good time, just sort of.
(01:15:52):
Wrap it. Up, wrap it up and say a massive
thank you to everyone in the chat.
A massive thank you to you, Ben Becca.
Oh, sorry, Claire. Yeah, I think it's up time,
Becca. Yeah, we're all off.
Yeah, but no, thank you, guys, because actually, yeah, this
shows come together at the very last minute.
(01:16:13):
And that's actually been a really fun thing to actually be
part of. And actually it kind of just
shows that as every day goes on,probably now until until we get
to Christmas Day, everything's going to move at a pace that
none of us are completely happy with.
So what we'll probably end up doing is just like, everything's
just going to go so quick. And then we'll be It'll be our
(01:16:35):
Wafflers Christmas party before we actually know it.
Do you know what? It'll then be January and it'll
be like take six months to get through all of it usually.
Maybe you could repeat the firstcouple of shows from last
January and this January just gone.
Yeah, when we complain about howlong January is.
(01:16:56):
We did like 16 shows in January it.
Felt like no thanks everyone. Thanks for thank you for
watching, thank you for being inthe chat.
If you're watching on catch up and you've been out of firework
display, I hope you've all been safe.
You've all had a fantastic night, but do please make sure
(01:17:16):
you catch up and also if you listen to the podcast, thank you
very much. We appreciate it.
The fact that you're downloadingthose every Friday until next
week, apart from the fact do make sure that you have
downloaded the 1st of November show because actually it was
superb and and we actually stillit cost me money.
(01:17:40):
With the intention of saving moment.
Yeah, but I'm going to end up I'm going to end with a villa
for next year and I know we're going to have an extra trips.
Yeah, that might that might not go down.
Well, don't let's not go there on a Wednesday.
We can edit out when we say thaton a we say that on our ordinary
podcast. We can edit that bit out.
(01:18:02):
Nobody ever knows it was on a Wednesday.
It's out there for forever, right until next week.
Check out the waffle his arms. We'll catch up with you as we
do, but until then, we'll see you soon.
See you real. Soon.
