Speaker 1 (00:04):
What if I told you
that the way you think and the
way that you feel could be justas powerful as any medicine you
get over the counter or from adoctor.
If you've ever experienced anypain, stress or past trauma any
of these chronic conditions thatmay seem to present themselves
to you in some form of physicalailment it can be alleviated
(00:28):
when you understand how the mindand body work together.
In this episode of the SuperSoul Model series, what I'm
going to do is I'm going to diveinto the science and the
mind-body connection and how youcan heal and help yourself
enjoy greater health, greaterwell-being and greater ease
inside of your body.
(00:49):
Anything that's stubborn isstuck in the mind, because the
mind not at ease creates a bodywith disease, and when your mind
begins to find ease again, thebody follows suit.
So if you're looking to healany situation that you may have
inside of your body, if you'vefelt way too much stress in your
(01:11):
life and you're looking to findthis greatest state of
well-being, then this episode isfor you.
Before Jim Carrey became famous,he was a broke and struggling
actor and back in the year 1990,when he was on the comedy
circuits around LA trying tomake it big, trying to make a
buck or two and become famous.
(01:32):
He had a clear and definitegoal he wanted to be a movie
star.
And the story continues is thathe wrote himself a check and
post-dated it Thanksgiving 1995,for 10 million dollars for
acting services rendered.
And the story continues becausehe kept it in his wallet and it
(01:53):
just kind of started todisintegrate over time.
But what's really interestingabout Jim's story is that for
most of those evenings after hisgigs he would go and sit
underneath the Hollywood sign inMulholland Drive and he'd drive
up there in his old banger of acar but he would sit underneath
there, sometimes smokingcigarettes, but trying to
(02:15):
imagine that his life wasamazing, that he'd been given
big movie parts, that he wasstarring in fantastic movies,
that big directors had come tohim asking him to star in movies
.
And the story continues becausein 1995, he starred in a film
and that's exactly what he waspaid.
(02:36):
He was paid 10 million to starin Dumb and Dumber and it came
in at Thanksgiving 1995.
So what's this story got to dowith healing?
It's got nothing to do withhealing, but it has got to do
with one thing the power ofvisualization, the power of the
mind, the power of a clear andconcise goal.
(02:59):
Now, when it comes to healing,we don't understand the power of
the mind because we're notreally taught it in school.
But these stories that we canrelate to, with case studies of
people that we may know or haveheard of, make us understand
that it's possible, and that'swhat I want you to understand in
(03:19):
this episode that things arepossible when you understand
yourself and how it works andhow you work.
Another story is about Dr JoeDispenza.
Dr Joe Dispenza has writtenseveral books on the mind-body
connection and his ownexperience was a very
challenging one.
Before he started writing allthese books, he became a
(03:40):
chiropractor and then went intoneuroscience and he had a very
critical bike injury that lefthim crushing his spine and
having severe spinal injuries.
And his story continues becausehe went to go on to heal
himself using the power ofvisualization and meditation.
(04:02):
And now Dr Joe Dispenza ishelping millions of people
understand this mind-bodyconnection.
So how do your thoughts andemotions shape your health?
Well, the brain and the immunesystem are constantly talking to
one another and, whilst youcan't see that with your own
eyes, it's happening inside ofyour body through frequency,
(04:22):
through vibration and when yourecognize that you're feeling
stress or getting a stressresponse to a certain situation,
what's actually happening isthe chemical cortisol is rushing
through the system, actuallycreating a reduction in your
immune system and causing moreinflammation in your system.
And studies have shown thatbetween 75 and 90 percent in
(04:46):
america and between 70 and 90percent in the uk all doctors
call outs are stress relatedpretty much between 70 and 90
percent.
This means that inflammation isone of the major causes of
disease inside of the human bodyand as human beings in society.
Inflammation is one of themajor causes of disease inside
of the human body and as humanbeings in society.
(05:08):
Inflammation is one of thenumber one causes of problems
that we find.
And when there's a lot ofinflammation going on in the
system, what that means?
There's a lot of cortisolrunning through the system.
So this is how we areconstantly responding and
reacting to the challenges thatwe face on a day-to-day basis.
So if we're able to regulatethat, that means we're able to
(05:31):
regulate the amount of cortisolwe experience, reducing
inflammation, keeping the bodyhealthier and in a greater state
of well-being more of the time.
There are many different typesof chronic conditions that
people suffer from, but thereare four that I'm going to talk
about today, and the first oneis the autoimmune disease, and
this might relate to somethinglike lupus, ruminoid arthritis
(05:56):
or even Hashimoto's.
But what they've found is whichis really fascinating in this
study called the psychoneurowhich is really fascinating in
this study called thepsychoneuroendocrinology, is
that a lot of autoimmune systemdiseases that people tend to
suffer from are related tochildhood traumas of some sort.
And there's an interesting casestudy about Venus Williams, a
(06:18):
very famous tennis player I'msure you've heard of, but she
suffered with an autoimmunedisease called Sjogren's, and
that is when the eyes becomevery dry and the lips become
very dry and the skin becomesvery brittle as well, and she
found that, with the help ofchanging her diet, by having
(06:39):
more mindfulness practices andvisualization and meditation,
this autoimmune system began tobecome at bay and not affect,
and she's gone on and went on tobecome one of the most famous
tennis players of all time.
So it's amazing to see howthings that we can implement can
(07:00):
change the challenges andchronic conditions one may be
facing.
The next chronic conditions thatpeople can suffer from is like
chronic pain and chronic pain.
One of my clients had lots ofmigraines and after working with
me for a few sessions that painsubsided because we began to
reorientate the way we thoughtabout certain situations and
(07:23):
those migraines have subsidedand after a short period of time
, maybe about six months, theycompletely went.
And this is all heightenedbecause of negative emotion.
Every challenge that we havefor one reason or another is
because we're thinkingnegatively, and if we don't
think differently about thesituation, that pain becomes
(07:45):
bigger, first in the mind beforeit enters the body.
And in a journal ofneuroscience they found that
watching someone in pain createdinternal pain for the observer
this is called the observereffect and simultaneously, on
the other end of this, theyfound that someone showing a
kind act to somebody else alsocreated the chemical of
(08:09):
serotonin and oxytocin inside ofthe body of the observer.
So when we're watching someonein pain we can feel their pain,
and when we're watching someonein a kind act of love or
compassion we can also feel that.
And this is so interesting ashuman beings because we're all
connected.
So chronic pain is reallyheightened by negative emotion.
(08:31):
And there's a really interestingbook called Healing Back Pain
by Dr John Sarno that talksabout how he's helped so many
people with chronic back painjust by understanding and
healing the emotions within.
When I've noticed some of myown experiences, when I've got
myself a little bit out of mycenter, within a day or two I
(08:51):
found myself coming back.
When I adjust my thinking andadjust my eating and spend more
time in deeper meditation and innature, I've noticed that I can
bounce back so quickly thesedays when I've had any little
pocket of resistance that I liketo call it.
But this takes habit.
This is a habit of success andyou can do it too.
(09:12):
And if you're experiencing waymore chronic challenges and
chronic pain and chronicproblems chronic just means
practiced and healing can bechronic as well well-being can
be chronic.
It's just often used in anegative sense.
So the next thing that causes alot of people of chronic
conditions is digestive issues.
(09:34):
Digestive issues it's reallyrelated to your inability to
digest new information that'scoming through or what's
happening in your life.
This may seem quite a boldstatement, but bear with me.
Your gut is called your secondbrain and the reason why it's
called your second brain isbecause it's got 100 million
(09:55):
neurons and it's constantlyresponding to stress the whole
time.
So if you've ever had IBS orchallenge in your cramp inside
of your stomach, it's oftenbecause it's stress related and
when that's happening, it'sbecause you're trying to digest
what's going on in life andsometimes stress is so
overpowering that it causesthose types of digestive issues.
(10:18):
In its medical journal, whichis one of the greatest hospitals
in the United States, did astudy and they said that within
24 hours the gut bacteria canchange just on the reduction of
stress alone.
So that's a huge point.
And last but not least, a lotof people face heart disease and
hypertension.
(10:39):
There's a study by the AmericanHeart Association that people
with chronic stress about 27%more likely to develop heart
disease.
So that plays such a huge part.
So our ability to findsolutions to reducing stress in
our life can actually create farmore well-being.
(11:00):
So, with stress playing such amajor part and inflammation
playing such a major part onsome of the chronic conditions
that you may be facing or peopleyou love may be facing, then we
need to look at perhaps somemindset shifts and some healing
practices allows you to flow outemotions that you might be
(11:27):
holding on to and when yourelease the emotions you'll feel
free, and that kind of actslike letting go of lead weights
inside of the body.
It's natural for your body tofeel light and feel good and be
radiant and be full of energy, and anything less than that is
about you coming back intobalance with your thinking first
, so that your body can followsuit.
Because, remember, a mind atease creates a body at ease.
Try journaling with the promptwhat emotions am I holding on to
(11:50):
that I could let go of now thatdon't serve me?
Maybe it's anger, maybe it'sresentment, and sometimes, by
journaling the emotion thatyou're feeling, you're able to
accept that emotion, understandthat it's been present with you
for a while and say hey, listen,I don't want to hold on to you
anymore because it's weighing medown.
So journaling can be verypowerful and very healing.
(12:11):
The second healing practice youcould begin to employ is
something like breath work ormeditation.
For me, I've always talkedabout meditation because it's
been the very thing that hasactually healed me from
addiction.
Meditation, because it's beenthe very thing that has actually
healed me from addiction and itactually even helped me heal
from a chronic dry scalp that Ihad for years where I was using
steroids, and within a few weeksof meditating, I never needed
(12:36):
to use that steroid cream everagain and the condition never
returned.
So I was fascinated by that.
But what breath work andmeditation does?
And it's actually found in astudy that within eight weeks of
practicing breath work ormeditation particularly
meditation in my case, becausethat's my experience if they
(12:57):
found that cortisol is reducedso significantly from the body
and for me, I've been well forsuch a long period of time that
I think it's been almost six orseven years since I actually
went to go and see a doctor andthat was just for a checkup.
So is that irresponsible?
No, it's just.
I'm naturally well, I'mnaturally vital and if there's
(13:18):
something wrong, I know thatthere's something in my body.
And that is definitely due toover 20 years plus of meditation
, daily meditation.
I'm fully aware of what's goingon in my body because I know
that when I'm meditating, myenergy is hitting this natural
high and anytime I feelresistance, I either need to
(13:40):
sleep, I need to eat, I need todrink something or meditate, and
I find that my body justnaturally sits at this higher
frequency of vitality and energy.
My exercise regime has beenincredible because of such high
levels of energy.
I feel that that is what mybody creates, and meditation and
breath work will give yougreater energy if you're feeling
(14:02):
sluggish or any fatigue.
Breath work will give yougreater energy if you're feeling
sluggish or any fatigue.
The next healing tip that youcould begin to employ is
visualization and guided imagery, and the New England Journal of
Medicine discovered that peopleincreased muscle strength by
13.5% just by imagining thisalone.
(14:23):
I mean, this is incredible, andit goes back to Jim Carrey's
story that we talked about, about the power of visualization
and Dr Joe's journey of comingback to full health.
So how would you use thevisualization and guided imagery
to affect any chronic condition?
Well, you just need to imagineyourself as if you've got the
(14:45):
vitality and the health and thewell-being that you want, or, if
it's for someone you love, imagine them in great health and
vitality.
But you have to do it when youare at your most relaxed state,
because if you're stillconcerned or still worried, what
you're actually doing isbringing the wrong energetic
fuel into the imagery.
It's really important that youget very clear about what your
(15:09):
outcome is and try and do itfrom a very relaxed state.
For me, one of the best thingsthat I've found that's very
powerful is scripting things outas if they're already done and
reading it just before I fallasleep at night.
And if it was a healthcondition, I would say I'm so
happy and grateful now that I'min perfect health.
I've just been on this holiday.
(15:29):
We enjoyed this amazingvacation and I've just been able
to walk around the island andenjoy the sights and tried on
some clothes and we ate somebeautiful food and I slept
incredibly well.
It feels so great to be in thisgood feeling body.
Something simple like a scriptcan change the mind, and when
(15:50):
you repeat that script, eventhough it's not done, but as if
it's done, you're usingvisualization very, very
powerfully.
This is what actors do, and ifyou love going to the movies,
you're just watching them followa script and embodying it.
You, too, need to behave likethe actor of your own life.
(16:11):
In truth, you're both the actorand director of your own life
and even if your conditionsaren't conducive to health and
wellbeing right now, recognizeyou can change the script at any
time, but do it and write it asif it's already done and in a
way that you actually makes youfeel good.
This is the most importantthing.
(16:33):
The fourth healing tip thatpeople could incorporate is
gratitude.
I have this thing that I'vecoined a phrase called the art
of extreme gratitude.
The art of extreme gratitude isbeing thankful for everything
that happens all day long, whether it's good or a challenge
.
Being thankful for everythingin my life, from the lights to
the water running, to the foodyou eat, to the bed you sleep on
(16:56):
, to the car that you drive, tothe people that are helping you,
to the people you eat, to thebed you sleep on, to the car
that you drive, to the peoplethat are helping you, to the
people you work with, to themoney that comes in, to the
money that goes out.
I think of literally everythingto be grateful for.
And if you've got a chroniccondition of anything right now,
it's because you've got chronicnegativity that somehow found
its way into your life, eitherby your doing or by something
(17:17):
you've picked up somehow in someway, perhaps by your parents,
but either way, it's time totake charge by being grateful
for what you have.
This is so powerful, and ifyou've got someone in your life
that's going through somethingreally difficult, you need to be
so grateful that your goodfeeling actually begins to
(17:39):
affect them.
This is real healing at work,so gratitude has the ability to
turn any difficult situationsaround.
Uc Berkeley did a study and 90%of people noted that journaling
with gratitude transformedtheir life.
If they had anxiety ordepression or any difficulty,
(18:00):
90% of those students noticed aturnaround.
This is phenomenal, and one ofthe best ways you can do this is
just before bed and when youwake up, write 10 things you're
grateful for.
But don't just write what you'regrateful for, write why you're
also grateful for them.
So thank you, thank you.
Thank you for this, becausethis helps you get to that
(18:22):
emotion that produces theserotonin, that produces the
oxytocin which reduces thecortisol.
This is the biology where thebody begins to change and starts
to heal, because the moreserotonin, the more oxytocin,
the more healthier the body is.
This is what's happening inmeditation You're releasing the
thought or any negative thoughtit releases, and up goes the
(18:45):
oxytocin, up goes the serotonin.
This is what keeps the bodyhealthy and well.
Happy people tend to remainwell.
This is just like how the bodygoes, because it's all the
chemicals we're producing in thebody.
So there's a few little tipsthat you can do right away.
You can begin to start your daywith a two to three minute
(19:06):
gratitude journal.
You could say it out loud.
Number two you could do somebox breathing, which is breathe
in for four, hold for four, exhale for four.
If you do this for a fewminutes, this can be really
powerful and producing moreoxygen inside of the body.
This begins to recalibrate thebody to a better feeling.
The next thing you can do ifyou're looking to recalibrate
(19:29):
your energy and enjoy greaterhealth and well-being is just by
starting a five-minutemeditation.
Find something on youtube.
I've got a 12-minute guidedmeditation that you can do.
That is scientifically provento increase better oxygen in
your system and increasewell-being because it's done
with the four by four breathing.
This is about seven and a halfto eight breaths a minute.
(19:51):
It slows your breathing downand increases your vibration and
will definitely increase yourwell-being.
So if you want to try that,I'll put that in the link of
this podcast and you can listento it.
I started doing it on myselfjust as a case study and I
noticed that so many peopleabsolutely love it.
Try it.
It's for free and it's onYouTube and if it helps you, at
(20:14):
least it's going to improve thequality of your well-being.
And last but not least, it'smanaging your self-talk.
Your self-talk has the abilityto turn things around like
nothing else I've everencountered.
If you were to get 10 commentsand nine of them were positive
and one of them was negative, you'd spend more time on that
(20:36):
negative than the nine that arepositive.
It's amazing how the mind isconstantly wired to flip to the
negative.
It's so important that you getin charge of your mind, and by
asking better questions, becausemost people don't ask great
questions, which is why am Istill in this situation?
The reason why you're still inthe situation is because you're
(20:57):
perpetuating it with thatquestion.
You need to interrupt thepattern in order for you to get
new results, because the mind isjust going to keep going back
to the default setting and untilyou ask a better question,
you're only ever going to getthe same results you've always
been getting.
So one of the thoughts that youneed to begin to interrupt your
(21:21):
self-talk is what if this isall going to work out?
What if my body is designed toheal?
What if everything willeventually be okay?
Asking these types of questionsbegins to interrupt the negative
chronic conditions that haveprevented you from enjoying
(21:41):
greater health and well-being, Ioften love to use a gratitude
which is thank you, thank you.
Thank you for the healing of mybody, thank you, thank you,
thank you for my health andwell-being and, even if that's
not your experience yet, thankyou, thank you, thank you that
my body knows what to do to healitself.
If it can heal a a cut, what ifit can heal this?
So these types of what if?
(22:02):
Questions and wouldn't it benice questions interrupt where
you're at and that begins ahealing process.
And then, when you havegratitude on top of that, thank
you, thank you, thank you for myhealing, thank you, thank you,
thank you for this.
All working out as if it's donealready starts to create the
belief, because what you need inorder for things to change is
(22:24):
belief.
And if these other peoplebefore us, who we've looked into
some of the case studies, havespoken about some of these
things I've shared with youtoday, then if it can work for
them, it can sure work for you,but you need to begin to
interrupt the chronic conditionsthat have prevented you from
enjoying a return to wellness inorder for your condition to
(22:46):
change.
Healing isn't about medicine.
It's about the astonishingpower of your own emotions and
the thinking associated with it.
When you think and you feel, you emote with it when you think
and you feel you emote.
Emotion means energy in motion.
So when you think better, youbegin to feel better, and
gratitude makes the body feelbetter.
And asking better questionsmakes the body feel better.
(23:10):
It makes it feel more hopeful, makes it feel more empowered.
This is so powerful.
There's such a differencebetween asking a negative
question and an empoweringquestion.
Try and ask the empoweringquestions and let your mind come
up with the answers.
One of the things I'd like toleave you on is ask yourself
(23:32):
this question on amoment-to-moment basis what
would the healthy version ofmyself think and do right now?
And then follow through withthe action that you get.
Because when you ask thatquestion, you're now jumping to
an identity of the version ofyou that's healthy.
This identity, in time, becomesa shift and you start to
(23:57):
operate like the healthy versionof yourself.
Most people have an identitythat they're not well, or they
don't have that physical prowessor they've got too much weight
or whatever.
Identify with the version ofyourself by asking the question
what does the healthy version ofmyself do?
And then follow through andmaybe within about six months to
(24:19):
a year, you might noticesomething profound within you
that by asking a better questionand following through with the
action, you changed yourphysical reality, but you did it
first by asking betterquestions.
So today we explored somepowerful strategies to go from
chronic illness to well-being,which resonated with you the
(24:40):
most.
Healing isn't just aboutmedication.
Healing is about your thoughtsand feelings being in alignment,
being in harmony withwell-being, and your emotions
are feedback indicators, recognizing and telling you
where you're at, and the betteryou feel, the more green lights
that you'll get.
But you may have accidentally, unbeknownst to you, practiced
(25:02):
more chronic conditions ofnegativity than positivity.
Now, I'm not asking you to goto positivity all in one go,
because that's really difficult.
That's like trying to push aboulder, but we can do one thing
at a time.
So what strategies have youheard today that you could begin
to implement immediately?
Because that's what's important.
(25:22):
Just one at a time creates amomentum and that becomes
powerful.
If you've enjoyed this episode, who can you share it with?
Because this is a reallyprofound question.
If something in here hasresonated with you, just think
what it could do if you share itwith another person.
You could change your life andthat's really powerful.
We work well as a team, andthat's what this is all about.
(25:44):
Until the next time, I wish youa wonderful week ahead and
green lights all the way.
