Tap in because yourbreakthrough starts now.
Have you ever had life challengescome out of nowhere like an
unexpected wave, just as soon asyou're trying to catch your breath?
It doesn't matter howprepared you think you are.
There's always something that'sgoing to test your resiliency
and it feels like a struggle.
Don't worry, I've been there too.
(00:40):
That's why I want to share withyou these four books that helped
build my foundation of resiliency.
And it's not only justfour books that I heard.
These are actually four books thatI've read and put into action.
I can't stress, it doesn'tmatter how much you read.
What good is reading andgaining the knowledge if you're
not going to put into action?
So just want to put that out there.
(01:01):
Needless to say, let'stap into today's episode.
Before I start recommending books,I know some people are like, hey,
look, man, I don't got time to sitdown and read a book, which is fine.
It's cool.
Everybody has things thatthey have to do, right?
Like for me, I listen to audiobooks and the audio app that I use.
is Audible and then I also use Libby.
Libby is from the library.
So if you have a library card, youcan essentially rent a book out for
(01:24):
two weeks and you can listen to it.
And if you want to, youcan always borrow it again.
I just want to put this out there.
If you're going to use Libby, sometimesthe books may not be available.
You may have to wait a week.
You may have to wait a couple of weeksor even a couple of months So I don't
want to just put it out there Okay Isaid this book is on there and if it is
(01:45):
on there, it's on there But you may haveto wait and sometimes some books are not
available on there, which is okay Butthere's other alternate routes that you
can do I know those are the two routesthat I use and if there's a book that I
really want to look for Sometimes I justgo and go on youtube and try to see if
I can find it there So I just want toput that out there for those who don't
have time to sit down and read justbecause You You may be driving to work.
(02:07):
You may be listening to it at work.
So just trying to useyour time efficiently.
That's what I'm all about.
All right.
So that being said, let's actually tap in.
Book number one is The FourAgreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
And this is one of my favorite books.
I read this book atleast three times a year.
There's no sugarcoating because eventhough it's four simple agreements,
(02:29):
It's always good to have a reminder.
I'm not going to release all theagreements as you see on screen Here goes
the book for those who are looking forit and this is one of my favorite books
just due to the fact of These are fouragreements that are simple but powerful
and it's broken down in a realistic wayWell, you know that things are not going
to change overnight It's something thattakes time if you just apply these four
(02:54):
agreements and these four agreements arelike non negotiables to me I read this
book often Every year just as a reminder.
I'd like to listen to it two three timesas I said And it's just because sometimes
we get distracted or sometimes you justneed a good reminder and it's just oh cool
And it's a quick read you can read thisbook or listen to this book within a day.
(03:16):
It's probably about What If youlisten to it, it's four hours.
If you read it, it could be abouta four hour read, but I love it.
It's the simplicity of it, butthe also realistic views of
you can change who you are.
If you stick to this, but youhave to understand this is
not going to be a quick fix.
(03:37):
Next up is book two, Be YourFuture Self Now by Benjamin Hardy.
This book helped me out in so manyways because when I was having so
many challenges that, along withmy actions today, it was like,
man, what would my future self do?
Instead of thinking about whatI'm going to do in the future, it
really helped shift the mindsetof Being that person today, right?
(03:59):
Resiliency is not always aboutjust challenges and being ready
and prepared and all that.
It's just really like walking into yourpurpose today, how you want essentially
being who you want to be today.
And with this book, I really tooka moment to stop and pause and
think in the future, what doesthe future Herbie Mack look like?
(04:21):
Right.
And instead of saying, oh, I'm going todo X, Y, Z, it's just like, yo, bump that.
Let's do it today.
We are going to not only act likethat Herbie Mac from three years from
now, we are Herbie Mac three yearsfrom now, like today, it starts today.
And that was something that wasbeneficial to me because it gave
(04:44):
me not only the confidence, but theself awareness of like, why wait?
For three years to be thatperson, be that person now, right?
If you want to have these goals and youwant to hit these goals and you want
to achieve these goals as a successfulperson, or it's not even like financially
or anything, but like a successful personis being able to walk in your purpose.
(05:08):
Why wait three years to say, Heyguys, I'm walking in my purpose.
Let's do it today.
And whatever hurdles that we face, don'tthink about it of, man, what would I do?
No, think about it as that evolved personthat you wanted to be in three years.
And what would that person do?
Right.
For me to, to do this podcast and to dospeaking, I'm like, oh man, I'm going
(05:30):
to be a public speaker and I'm going toalso do trainings and help other people.
Other people and all that, butI'm going to do it in three years.
That was like my mindset for a while.
Really just, dude, why wait?
Let's just do it now.
And then trial and error isgoing to happen, which is fine.
We make adjustments.
That's why pencil have erasers.
That's one of the benefits that I'velearned about reading this book.
(05:52):
Also on a sidebar, it'ssomething I started doing after
I finished reading this book.
I.
I did a note to myself that I textmyself and was just like, Hey, I have,
and during the time, like I finishedthe World Cup, I was like, oh man,
I only have 75 subs on my YouTube.
And some people would be likesuper mad that they only have
(06:13):
75 people sub to the YouTube.
I'm thankful to have these 75 people.
Who check out my content when I load it.
And I'm thankful for them to comment.
They taking time out their day, but whatcan we do to add more value into these 75
subs that not only that I'm adding value, you want to help this community grow.
(06:34):
That's why I tell people, Hey, ifyou listen to just what you show,
Hey, share this with a friend.
Occasionally I get DMs andHey, your content is so good.
It's like the best kept secret.
Thank you.
I guess it's like a backhand compliment.
How about we share this with others?
So.
My content won't be the best keptsecret because I'm not just sitting
here saying I want high numbers.
I'm actually here to build a communityto help grow because it's important
(06:57):
when it comes to mental health.
You feel like you're byyourself and nobody gets you.
Guess what?
I got you, man.
And I'm not going to judge you.
I want to help educate you inways that like, hey, not even,
I want to help empower you to bethe best version that you can be.
All right.
That's enough of my take to rant.
And we'll be right back after this break.
(07:20):

Been so busy being everythingfor everyone else, that somewhere
along the way you lost sight ofthe woman staring back at you?
(08:48):
Yeah, I've been there too.
And let me tell you, it'stime to change all of that.
We live in a world thatdemands so much from us.
It tells us how to look, howto think, and how to feel.
It's exhausting.
And the worst part is it can makeyou forget who you truly are.
The noise, the expectations, and theendless comparisons start to drown
out your voice, leaving you feelingdisconnected, maybe even a little lost.
(09:12):

com, grab your copy, andlet's walk this path together.
You deserve to see thereal you shine through.
Because she's incredible.
And now, back to the show.
Let's get into book number three.
Alright, book number three, TheUntethered Soul by Michael Sinker.
This is one of the most powerfulbooks I've read in a while.
(10:16):
And powerful as in a senseof you have to do the N word.
Right?
This book is essentiallyabout the art of letting go.
And sometimes we hold on to so manythings, it could be trauma from our
childhood to our teenage years to ouryoung adults, even adults that we hold
on that we're not ready to let go.
(10:38):
And even for myself, I had to sit backand I had to read this and I had to
sit on some things and reflect and askmyself, why am I holding on to this?
There's no growth ifI'm holding on to this.
How can I release this pain?
And that book really dialed in into someof the things that I wasn't comfortable
(10:59):
letting go yet, but I understand I had tolet go to become the person I am today.
And I enjoyed this book.
This book has the benefitsof why you should let go.
And the terms of resiliency from likereading this, I realized I should let go
because I'm holding on to something that'sAt this point, we can't change the past.
(11:23):
We can learn from it andbuild a better future.
Simple as that.
Last but not least book number four,Be Water My Friend by Shannon Lee.
And if you don't know, ShannonLee is the daughter of Bruce Lee.
Unfortunately, Bruce Lee had died whenshe was about three or four years old.
She didn't really understandwho her father was.
Obviously she knew he was famousand little did I know he had
(11:46):
so many journals or books.
Diaries, however, whatever term you wantto use, that he wrote in when she got
older, she was able to read them andreally understand her father philosophy.
And the famous quote, be water my friend,it's just essentially about how water
adapts to whatever environment it's in.
(12:07):
So if you put water in a cup,it's time to grab a cup of water.
If you put water in a flowingriver, it becomes a river.
And that is so vital when it comesto resiliency, because sometimes you
have to adapt to the environment.
That's it.
And not saying that you have tobecome the environment, but it can
be beneficial to adapt and learn.
Okay.
(12:27):
I've learned from this environment.
Now it's time to pivot.
And just like the fouragreements, I read this book
probably two times a year, right?
And I really just be water, my friend, because there's times where as a
person, there's things that we can'tcontrol and you just have to adapt.
(12:49):
These are the cards that I have.
Cool.
Cool.
I'm going to work with these cards.
This is the lemons that I have.
Cool.
I'm going to work with these lemons andwe're going to make the best lemonade.
And that helped not only slow theworld down for me, but understand that
adapting to certain environments is okay.
(13:11):
Seriously.
It's okay.
Just understanding Bruce Leephilosophy, because obviously he's
one of the biggest icons, especiallywhen it comes to martial arts, that
it's just, wow, his man mindset is.
To me, I'm like a sponge, give me more, feed me more, and just understand, like,
how somebody like that was able to justgo with the flow with certain things.
(13:35):
When nobody wanted to work with Bruce Lee,when he was trying to get into Hollywood,
he created his own movies, right?
He learned what he had to learn.
Okay, y'all don't want to help me?
I went with the flow withcertain things, I adjusted.
Now it's time for me to do my ownthing and grow and it's so vital.
So that's one of my go to books becauseit's not only as an entrepreneur, but
(13:58):
even like when it comes to mental health.
It's so vital to understand thatyou won't be able to control
everything and sometimes it'simportant just to go with the flow.
So I can't just give you four books.
I'm going to actually give youa bonus book and this book is
You Owe You by Eric Thomas.
And this book is, for those who don'tknow who Eric Thomas is, he's the number
(14:20):
one motivation speaker in the world.
But this book breaks down not only justin a motivation sense of you owe yourself,
but This it's really the call to actionof no one's not gonna just knock on your
door and just hand you a million dollars.
No one's not going to sit there andjust pat you on the back and say,
I'm sorry for your whole situation.
Here goes the better situation, right?
When it comes to foundation of buildingresiliency, it's so important, but
(14:45):
what good is it if you don't havethe confidence in yourself, right?
No one's going to provide that for you.
I can give you all the insight inthe world, but if you're not going
to put that into action, then whatgood is the And that's something
that this book reminds me of, right?
If you want to have an empoweringmindset, if you want to be self aware
(15:05):
when it comes to mental health andunderstanding that, like, this is who I
am, these are my triggers and all of that, you ought to yourself to do the work.
But also be equipped with it, right?
So when something comes, you understand, like, you put your hand on that stove,
and you're like, dude, that stove is hot.
I learned my lesson the first time.
I'm not going to touch thestove again, because I already
understand that it's hot.
(15:25):
This book helped me understand that.
Hey dude, do you want to bethe best version of yourself?
If you want to get on stage, ifyou want to sit there and connect
with the audience, and changelives, You have to do that.
You have to get up thereand hit the record.
You have to sit up there andput out the podcast episodes.
You have to put out the contentfor them to understand that they
have the ability and the tools tobe a better version of themselves.
(15:48):
But if you're not going toupload to Herbie, guess what?
No one's going to do it for you.
Therefore, that changing people's lives?
You can't if you're notputting in the work.
But this is one of my favorite books.
I listen to this bookat least once a year.
Just go back, just pick me up, getthat motivation to 15 minute bike
ride or walking around the block orjust in the house and I'm cleaning up.
(16:10):
I'm just like, all right, cool.
This holds me accountable.
This keeps me going.
And that's why I just wantedto add this book on here.
