I'm so happy to be talkingabout this subject today because
so many people have asked mehow to tell if your house has

spirits in it, and I'm reallypumped to talk about this
subject because, of course, lastweek's podcast was all about my
experiences of living in ahaunted house in Hanmer, and
this also is as a result of agreat thought-provoking
conversation that I had withMelissa Amo, who is a real
(01:06):
estate agent from SouthernOntario who wrote a blog about
how to tell if your home hasspirits, but she was asking
basically on a homebuyer'sperspective, so I'm going to be
mixing it in as both homebuyersand if you're living in an area
where you have spirits.
Now, what are some of the signsthat you might have some
(01:28):
visitors in your home thatreally you don't want there?
Well, if you noticeunexplainable activity like
lights turning on and off.
It could even be objects moving.
For myself, it was sounds.
I could hear sounds and I couldhear disembodied voices.
They could come even from anempty room or a different area
(01:52):
in the house, but it's usually asign that there might be one or
more spirits in your house.
Now you might even experiencewhat I had when I lived in my
haunted house, which was achange in temperature I had when
I lived in my haunted house,which was a change in
temperature.
We had a change in temperaturein one day from 72 degrees down
to about 45 degrees, and it wasvery quick.
(02:14):
And the thing is that is a hugeand very drastic change.
But you're going to notice avery drastic type of change.
It's not going to be oh, it'sjust one or two degrees.
It's like very drastic.
It could be cooler or warmer.
Now, other things that I feltwere physical or emotional
(02:34):
sensations.
I felt a presence, I felt likeI was being watched, and some
people even experience suddenodors like appearing out of
nowhere cigarettes, perfume,foul odors, that kind of thing.
And so what do you do if youexperience all of that?
You think that there is aspirit living in your home.
(02:57):
Well, first of all, do notfreak out.
Don't freak out, remain calm.
And it's so important to try todetermine why you're suddenly
receiving this unexpectedactivity or a company like why
is that spirit there?
What does it want, or is ittrying to tell you something?
Once you have a betterunderstanding of that situation,
(03:20):
there's steps that you can take, but the very first thing I try
to determine is did I bringanything new into my house?
Did I bring any antiques?
Did I buy secondhand clothingfrom a secondhand store?
Did I pick up toys from aneighbor?
Somebody gave me a used dogcollar.
(03:43):
Try to assess if there's beensomething different in the last
little while or when theactivity in your house started.
And if you can't determine anyof that, the other thing I would
recommend that you do is toengage with the spirit and have
a conversation with it and askquestions and see if you get
(04:03):
responses.
Now, you're not always going toget audible responses.
It's not like you're going tohear all of that advice coming
through or all of theinformation, but you might
notice certain things happeningthat are repetitive.
That will give you hints as towhy this activity is going on.
So maybe it's always on aFriday, or maybe something
(04:24):
happens at one o'clock every day, so really pay attention to
that.
Now the second thing I wouldtell you to do and only if you
feel comfortable enough to dothis is to perform a I call it a
smudge or a cleanse in yourhome.
And I love sage, I love cedar,but my very favorite, to be very
(04:47):
honest, is Palo Santo wood, andPalo Santo comes from the
cypress tree.
It takes four years to curethat wood and it smells
absolutely amazing.
I love the scent, but it bringsin good luck, brings in good
energy and rids your energyfield of anything evil or
(05:08):
malevolent.
So the thing is, I reallyencourage that, but a lot of
people say well, am I going tosmudge away my loved ones?
No, sage, cedar, palo santo isto bring in good energy, and
anything malevolent or anythingnegative does not like that.
And so the thing is they willleave the area in which these
(05:32):
scents and this energy surroundsitself.
And so there's different typesof tools of divination that you
can use that can help you withgetting rid of that spirit or
help with that spirit'stransition.
And if you still feel thepresence after cleaning your
house and I usually tell people,smudge for seven full days,
(05:54):
upstairs, downstairs, everywhere.
But after you've done that andif nothing has happened, or if
you find that the activity hasgotten worse, you may want to
get some professional help withthe services of a psychic medium
or a spiritual advisor, or evensomebody that belongs in a
paranormal group that can helpassist you in resolving these
(06:17):
conflicts and getting rid of allthese unwanted energies in your
home.
So and that's what I wouldrecommend and it's always always
important when you're havingthat conversation with your
spirits, to be really respectfuland to really remain open to
that.
Don't taunt it.
Okay, very important to tellyou that Now.
(06:41):
Can you tell if the spirit isbad or good?
Can we tell that?
Well, I think that most spiritsare neutral, so for me they're
neither good or bad, and I thinkthat a spirit's intention can
be determined by its behavior.
So if a spirit's behaving inthe way that's causing people
harm or property you know thatkind of thing then it's usually
(07:05):
a bad spirit.
So, good or bad, their actionsreflect their true nature.
So, in either case, spiritsexist in a realm beyond our
understanding and it's reallyimpossible to know for certain
if a spirit is good or if it'sbad.
If you're going to have aspiritual conversation or talk
with this spirit out loud, berespectful, be cautious, try not
(07:29):
to manipulate or upset it.
Now can spirits cause us harm?
Good and bad spirits, I think,can have a very physical
presence in our world and thiscan range from minor
disturbances, such as objectsbeing moved.
Minor disturbances such asobjects being moved or the
feeling of being touched, thatkind of thing, to much more
(07:57):
serious physical attacks.
And bad spirits can causepsychological harm.
What happens when there's bador malevolent spirits around?
We develop fear around thosethings.
People become paranoid, theycan also become very depressed
or even start experiencingpsychosis.
And that can happen whensomeone has post-traumatic
stress disorder from being sotraumatized by something, and
(08:19):
especially if they think they'rebeing haunted or the house is
haunted or they think they mightbe possessed or something.
But bad spirits, like I say,they can cause harm by
influencing our decisions,thoughts and actions.
So again, it depends on thetype of spirits and its
intention, and for me theseinstances are very rare.
(08:41):
I mean, you'll see these typesof things on TV, but for me I
think that most spirits don'treally want to wish us any harm
and that we just have to beaware of the potential of a
spirit being bad or wanting toprotect ourselves in case it's a
nasty energy.
I remember Melissa asking methis question and I thought it
(09:04):
was so great.
Because can home buyers have aspirit inspection before buying
a house?
And I've never really heard ofthat.
I've never known anybody to goand inspect a house, but I do
know, and let me elaborate onthat.
First of all, home inspectionsare typically done to check for
(09:26):
structural or safety issues, butyou can get somebody to also
investigate paranormal activityin your house.
But if you do that, you need aprofessional paranormal
investigator or a team that usea variety of equipment to detect
the presence of ghosts orspirits, and so they might want
to bring along some infraredcameras, audio recorders for EVP
(09:49):
sessions, emf meters likeelectromagnetic field meters,
and other devices that measureor that record the evidence of
paranormal activity.
So once the investigation iscompleted, these investigators
can provide those that areseeking their services with a
report of any evidence that theymay have found.
(10:10):
But that takes time, and intoday's day and age and with the
way houses are selling soquickly, I don't think that
anybody would approve of aparanormal investigator or team
(10:30):
going into a house to do a hugeinvestigation to see if the
house is haunted.
So I've never heard of it, buta lot of people I've heard of
this have brought a psychic or amedium with them on a
walkthrough of a house beforebuying it, and so psychic medium
might go through with the buyerand they might use these tools
of divination so dousing rods,crystals, pendulums.
They might use these tools ofdivination so dousing rods,

crystals, pendulums, differenttypes that they may use to
detect energy fields or evenopen portals that spirit, good
or bad, use to enter your homeor your property.
And some houses, trust me, havehuge portals and they need to
be closed in order for thatactivity to stop in a house, in
order for that activity to stopin a house.
So it's really important toremember that the results of an
investigation may not always bedefinitive.
So the investigative team mighthave gone there and nothing
happened that day, and so itcould be that the report says
(11:22):
that there's nothing wrong.
But it's really sometimesdifficult to prove the presence
of a ghost or spirit, and if youbelieve that your house is
haunted, it could be worthwhileto have it inspected to see if
you can gain any insight intowhat's lurking in the shadows,
so to see why your house isgoing through that kind of
(11:42):
activity.
Now, I really liked thisquestion and it was do you find
pets are more sensitive tospirits than humans are?
So you can always bring yourdog with you if you're doing a
walkthrough, I guess, in yourhouse.
But for me pets are seen asmore sensitive to spirits than
humans, are at least moreintuitive in my opinion.
(12:05):
And so some pet owners thatI've talked to have reported
their pets acting strange orvery fearful when they're near a
certain area or people, or havereacted to spirits they can't
see with their own eyes.
And I had that happen in myhouse in Hanmer, where I took my
dog outside and as we wereheading towards the garden, my
(12:26):
dog lost it and he was barkinguncontrollably.
And when I come back into thehouse because I mean there was
no use to keep him out there, Icouldn't control him at all.
So when we came back in and Iwent to the kitchen sink, I
could see what appeared to bethe spirit of the man in that
garden and it disappeared and itleft me questioning myself.
(12:47):
But I understood why my dog wasbarking so much.
And so if you have a dogbarking at thin air or a cat
chasing something, don't besurprised.
Sometimes that happens andanimals are very, very sensitive
to that, and I think thatthey're more open to that
because they don't have anypreconceived notion about
(13:07):
supernatural phenomena orspirits.
It's not like they are educatedabout those things.
So the fact that they don'tknow about it makes us more
aware that they're aware of it.
Another great question was howcould you tell if a spirit is
trying to tell you something?
Communications with spirit atricky thing.
It's very tricky.
(13:27):
It can be difficult todetermine if they're trying to
tell you something, and even inreadings my experience has been
that they just want you to knowthat they're around.
But there are some signs thatyou could tell that they're
trying to communicate with you.
So odd smells.
For me, odd smells could becigarettes, like I mentioned,
(13:49):
perfume, cooking food.
It comes and goes, but thething is for me it's like they
want you to know that they'rethere.
You might even feel that chill,like I've mentioned.
The temperature changessometimes drastically, or even
see mist in the corner of youreyes or flashes or lights.
Like myself, I see these littlesparkly orbs, and so in certain
(14:13):
areas of the house, you mighthear noises also that are
unexplained.
And so in certain areas of thehouse, you might hear noises
also that are unexplained A lotof times.
A lot of people feel pressure,especially in the chest area
where they're going to get thisreal deep tingling sensation, or
they might even see objectsmoving on their own.
So the thing is, if you havethis feeling of being watched or
you're seeing shadows of peoplein your peripheral vision, you
(14:37):
may be experiencing having thatspirit around you.
Now some people also experience, like I did, the feeling of
peace and then sometimes justkind of weird.
I remember the house that Ilived in.
There were two brother spiritsand for me the one was very,
very peaceful and calm andbeautiful and the other one was
(15:00):
very confused and I could feelthat emotionally.
So the thing is, you may pickup that energy and feel those
emotions yourself.
So don't be surprised.
And you don't have to be like afull-fledged medium with any
certificates or anything.
Everybody has spidey senses,right?
So the thing is, you may feelthat.
(15:21):
Now another great question wasasking if we should use a Ouija
board if we're not able tocommunicate with spirits like a
medium.
Can I say no, the thing is itis used to communicate with
spirits, but what kind ofspirits?
I don't recommend using a Ouija, because they can open up the
channel to all types of energies.
(15:43):
So you might think that you'recalling out to your loved ones,
but the thing is, you might becalling out something different
and it may not be what you want.
That answers back, and so thething is please look at the
guide that I've attached to thispodcast If you're more
interested in learning about theOuija, because it can cause you
a lot of problems, and there'sa lot of do's and don'ts when it

comes to Ouija, and I couldprobably spend a whole podcast
just talking about that, butplease do not use one, and I do

you do have one.

Can spirits follow you from hometo home?
(16:27):
A spirit can.
It can attach itself to aperson and follow them from
place to place.
So not only can a house behaunted, but I believe that a
person could be haunted too, andso it's often said that spirit
has a personal connection tocertain individuals, or it could
be drawn to them for whateverunknown reasons.
(16:47):
But the thing is it can happen.
Some people think that it'sspirits looking for revenge or
justice or something happened inthe past, and some people think
no, it's just that spirit wantscompanionship, it doesn't want
to be alone.
But the thing is, some peoplewho have experienced reporting,
hearing disembodied voices orfeeling a presence in their home
(17:08):
, have even seen apparitions intheir peripheral vision.
So if you start seeing thatyou've been somewhere, consider
where you've been and why thatspirit is following you.
The very last question here wascould deceased animals become
spirits?
And some cultures believe thatanimals have souls and become
(17:29):
spirits after they die.
And animals that have been witha person for a very long time
it's like having kids, right,I'm telling you they may even
become part of that person'sspirit family after they pass.
So I always tell people youwill see your animals on the
other side, you will be reunited.
(17:51):
They do come around us oncethey pass.
Animals could also act asmessengers from the spirit world
and they can provide importantguidance and insight to humans.
And so, regardless of the wayan animal becomes a spirit,
they're very deeply connected tothe spirit world and they can
(18:11):
provide valuable insight andguidance to humans.
So in the case where you'reseeing a bird that lands on your
window ledge and it's acardinal, let's say immediately
I would be looking that up tosee what the spiritual meaning
of a cardinal is.
Or if frogs are your thingslike for me, I see frogs quite
(18:33):
often and so I will look that up.
Or I just know for myself thatmy father's spirit is close by
when I see frogs or toads.
And the thing is, we can relateto all kinds of different
animals, but it's important tolook up their spiritual meaning
to see if you're receivingmessages and if you have spirit
(18:54):
telling you that they're nearby.
Now I don't want you to beafraid.
If you have spirits in yourhome Sometimes they could be
your loved ones visiting andthey've just come by to let you
know that they love you and thatthey're always close by.
But if you're feelinguncomfortable or if you're
noticing things that are reallyunusual, such as the things we
(19:14):
talked about today, and ifyou're not able to cleanse or
smudge your own house, I wouldtell you to definitely hire the
services of a professionalperson that can help you in
getting rid of these energies.

walkthrough, I guess, in yourhouse.
But for me pets are seen asmore sensitive to spirits than
humans, are at least moreintuitive in my opinion.
(12:05):
And so some pet owners thatI've talked to have reported
their pets acting strange orvery fearful when they're near a
certain area or people, or havereacted to spirits they can't
see with their own eyes.
And I had that happen in myhouse in Hanmer, where I took my
dog outside and as we wereheading towards the garden, my
(12:26):
dog lost it and he was barkinguncontrollably.
And when I come back into thehouse because I mean there was
no use to keep him out there, Icouldn't control him at all.
So when we came back in and Iwent to the kitchen sink, I
could see what appeared to bethe spirit of the man in that
garden and it disappeared and itleft me questioning myself.
(12:47):
But I understood why my dog wasbarking so much.
And so if you have a dogbarking at thin air or a cat
chasing something, don't besurprised.
Sometimes that happens andanimals are very, very sensitive
to that, and I think thatthey're more open to that
because they don't have anypreconceived notion about
(13:07):
supernatural phenomena orspirits.
It's not like they are educatedabout those things.
So the fact that they don'tknow about it makes us more
aware that they're aware of it.
Another great question was howcould you tell if a spirit is
trying to tell you something?
Communications with spirit atricky thing.
It's very tricky.
(13:27):
It can be difficult todetermine if they're trying to
tell you something, and even inreadings my experience has been
that they just want you to knowthat they're around.
But there are some signs thatyou could tell that they're
trying to communicate with you.
So odd smells.
For me, odd smells could becigarettes, like I mentioned,
(13:49):
perfume, cooking food.
It comes and goes, but thething is for me it's like they
want you to know that they'rethere.
You might even feel that chill,like I've mentioned.
The temperature changessometimes drastically, or even
see mist in the corner of youreyes or flashes or lights.
Like myself, I see these littlesparkly orbs, and so in certain
(14:13):
areas of the house, you mighthear noises also that are
unexplained.
And so in certain areas of thehouse, you might hear noises
also that are unexplained A lotof times.
A lot of people feel pressure,especially in the chest area
where they're going to get thisreal deep tingling sensation, or
they might even see objectsmoving on their own.
So the thing is, if you havethis feeling of being watched or
you're seeing shadows of peoplein your peripheral vision, you
(14:37):
may be experiencing having thatspirit around you.
Now some people also experience, like I did, the feeling of
peace and then sometimes justkind of weird.
I remember the house that Ilived in.
There were two brother spiritsand for me the one was very,
very peaceful and calm andbeautiful and the other one was
(15:00):
very confused and I could feelthat emotionally.
So the thing is, you may pickup that energy and feel those
emotions yourself.
So don't be surprised.
And you don't have to be like afull-fledged medium with any
certificates or anything.
Everybody has spidey senses,right?
So the thing is, you may feelthat.
(15:21):
Now another great question wasasking if we should use a Ouija
board if we're not able tocommunicate with spirits like a
medium.
Can I say no, the thing is itis used to communicate with
spirits, but what kind ofspirits?
I don't recommend using a Ouija, because they can open up the
channel to all types of energies.
(15:43):
So you might think that you'recalling out to your loved ones,
but the thing is, you might becalling out something different
and it may not be what you want.
That answers back, and so thething is please look at the
guide that I've attached to thispodcast If you're more
interested in learning about theOuija, because it can cause you
a lot of problems, and there'sa lot of do's and don'ts when it
(16:06):
comes to Ouija, and I couldprobably spend a whole podcast
just talking about that, butplease do not use one, and I do
have a section in there on howto dispose of a Ouija board, if
you do have one.

Can spirits follow you from hometo home?
(16:27):
A spirit can.
It can attach itself to aperson and follow them from
place to place.
So not only can a house behaunted, but I believe that a
person could be haunted too, andso it's often said that spirit
has a personal connection tocertain individuals, or it could
be drawn to them for whateverunknown reasons.
(16:47):
But the thing is it can happen.
Some people think that it'sspirits looking for revenge or
justice or something happened inthe past, and some people think
no, it's just that spirit wantscompanionship, it doesn't want
to be alone.
But the thing is, some peoplewho have experienced reporting,
hearing disembodied voices orfeeling a presence in their home
(17:08):
, have even seen apparitions intheir peripheral vision.
So if you start seeing thatyou've been somewhere, consider
where you've been and why thatspirit is following you.
The very last question here wascould deceased animals become
spirits?
And some cultures believe thatanimals have souls and become
(17:29):
spirits after they die.
And animals that have been witha person for a very long time
it's like having kids, right,I'm telling you they may even
become part of that person'sspirit family after they pass.
So I always tell people youwill see your animals on the
other side, you will be reunited.
(17:51):
They do come around us oncethey pass.
Animals could also act asmessengers from the spirit world
and they can provide importantguidance and insight to humans.
And so, regardless of the wayan animal becomes a spirit,
they're very deeply connected tothe spirit world and they can
(18:11):
provide valuable insight andguidance to humans.
So in the case where you'reseeing a bird that lands on your
window ledge and it's acardinal, let's say immediately
I would be looking that up tosee what the spiritual meaning
of a cardinal is.
Or if frogs are your thingslike for me, I see frogs quite
(18:33):
often and so I will look that up.
Or I just know for myself thatmy father's spirit is close by
when I see frogs or toads.
And the thing is, we can relateto all kinds of different
animals, but it's important tolook up their spiritual meaning
to see if you're receivingmessages and if you have spirit
(18:54):
telling you that they're nearby.
Now I don't want you to beafraid.
If you have spirits in yourhome Sometimes they could be
your loved ones visiting andthey've just come by to let you
know that they love you and thatthey're always close by.
But if you're feelinguncomfortable or if you're
noticing things that are reallyunusual, such as the things we
(19:14):
talked about today, and ifyou're not able to cleanse or
smudge your own house, I wouldtell you to definitely hire the
services of a professionalperson that can help you in
getting rid of these energies.
