Speaker 1 (00:06):
Welcome to the Lazy Ceo Podcast. I'm Jane Lou. I
escaped the corporate grind in twenty four and started my
own business, Choupo, a global nine figures online fashion brand,
and now I want to share my learnings here with
you every Tuesday, so join my conversations with the entrepreneurs
behind the iconic brands we all know and love. In
between interview weeks, you'll find me talking about hot topics

(00:29):
that fascinates me in the world of business and personal development,
alternating with help my Small Business episodes, where I deep
dive into a small business every month to help them grow.
And why the Lazy Ceo you ask, Well, give a
lazy person a problem, they'll find the simplest way to
solve it. Hey body, fam, Happy New Year. All right,

(00:52):
twenty twenty six. We are absolutely going to crush this year,
and we are going to talk about setting the right
goal to get it all happening. Now, Doro, this isn't
just about let's set tangible goals. We are going to
make sure we see results this time next year. But first,
let me just say I hope you all really enjoyed

(01:13):
your Christmas New Year's break and you really took that
time to well do whatever the hell it is that
you wanted to do, and you've got a bit of
a break because you know, I think we all work
really hard in twenty twenty five one. We all deserve it.
So I hope you're feeling fresh. I'm feeling eighty percent fresh,
twenty percent dusty, one hundred percent motivated. So let's do

(01:35):
this first. I had to say, I think often our
biggest blocker from getting from A to B it's because
we don't actually think that we got what it takes
to achieve what we want to achieve. Like we're almost

(01:55):
too scared to verbalize what we want because just by
saying it out loud, then we can actually fail. Even
though you know deep down what you want, right, we
all know deep down what we want. It's about retrieving
what that is and vocalizing it and really just coming
to terms with the fact that, like, even if you
don't say out loud, that you're still failure if you're

(02:16):
doing it, Because the first step into achieving these goals
is to actually say it. Because I swear to God,
I've made so many like big, cairy, audacious goals in
my life, and I never thought I could achieve them,
but I just thought, hey, you know, wouldn't that be nice?
And I cannot believe I'm here, you know. And I
think the first step is definitely by just saying it

(02:38):
out loud. Think about it this way. At Chopo, everyone
has OKRs, everyone has KPIs. I technically don't have a
KPI for myself. I don't have actually specific tangible goals.
Think about it. Whether if you're working corporate, or you're
working for someone else, or you have a team, everyone
has OKRs or KPIs. You need to have that tangible

(03:01):
goal to actually get to where you are. And not
everyone achieves those goals, but that's okay. I think they
would have gotten so much further by having that KPI
versus not and just like hoping for the best. So
let's talk about how we can do this, okay, because
I really think this is everyone's biggest blocker. So for us,
I think it's noticed what you silence, and that's usually

(03:23):
your big, hairy, audacious goals. So these are the goals
that you dismissed because they're too big or they're not
for someone like me. And it's almost, I guess slightly
embarrassing to admit. Say, you want to be a content
creator with a million followers, and you're like that person,
now you don't want to admit that to your friends.

(03:44):
I guess one goal that I've never like vocalized is
like being a shark or shark tank, Like I just
didn't ever think that was possible, so never even like
said it having a business, like I remember we always
had this like one hundred million dollars by twenty twenty
business goal, which sounds so easy to say because we
started saying it when we were so small. Now I
remember what kind of gone me into this mindset of

(04:06):
setting these big, hairy, audacious goals. I was actually in
this business seminar course thing, and they were like, write
down goals that are so embarrassing. Do you not write
any goals that you think you can achieve? I only
write one, so you're too embarrassed and you don't want
to show anyone. And then so I remember writing being
like and even at this point, I didn't even write
anything huge because I have such a failure mindset going

(04:29):
to a selective school that was super competitive, and like,
you know, you just didn't believe in yourself. But Basically,
I wrote I wanted to be featured in the Business
Review Weekly magazine, and then like two months later I
was in it, which then I'm like, oh my god.
One shows the power of goal setting too. I'm like,
far out. I'm so lame to not aim any bigger.
One of my top five goals is something I've achieved

(04:49):
in two months, Like I definitely need to think bigger,
which actually think big is one of the show Bro's
three values. I think that was the south of my
like thinking big thinking uncomfortable mindset. So my second point
to this is that it's okay to let this big, hairy,
audacious goal exist without a plan. It's okay just for now,
just to make it a goal. It doesn't need to

(05:10):
have immediate logic or permission from reality. You're allowed to
want something massive before you even know how to let
it happen. Just let us sit, let it permeate. So
I already touched on this with the past podcast, so
I don't want to go too deep into it. But
with the red car theory, if I said to you,
how many red carts have you seen today? You had
no idea. If I said I'd give you a hundred dollars.

(05:32):
Every time you see one. Tomorrow you will probably see
a bunch of red cars. Right okay, So just knowing
what that big, hairy, audacious goal is will help you
seek out the opportunities. The path may not be clear,
but it will help you get closer to that goal
without even having a plan exist. It's okay just to

(05:52):
let a simmer and percolate. Name it before you shrink it.
Say the go out loud privately or to someone before
you edit it down to something more reasonable. Just say
it in the big in its original form, as audacious
as possible, right, naybe. It creates direction without locking you
into an outcome. So be okay with the first time

(06:14):
you and be okay with the first time that you're
saying it. It sounds silly, and I just know that
if you want to write it down, you're gonna end
up watering down. Or by the time you say to
someone you're watering it down, you're looking at them for
permission to see how reasonable this might be. Just take
a shot and just say that loud to yourself in

(06:36):
the mirror. Finally, of course, move in small steps towards
a big direction, so you don't need obviously don't need
to take this all in one leap. You build belief
by taking the next honest, survivable step. So momentum, not confidence,
is what will carry you forward. So every bit of
momentum gives you that little bit more validation, a little

(06:58):
bit more confidence, and it will grow and compound in
time and with every step you take. So let's talk
about the actual goal setting for twenty twenty six. The
way I think we should approach it is you may
have your own way, but you know, since you're here
with me, let's do it my way. The way that
we're going to do it is. What we want is
goals that will stick. We're going to set a vision

(07:20):
for who we want to become. What we want is
that these goals will stick with us for having a
hard day or an easy day, when we're doing things
we don't like, when we're doing things we're not comfortable with.
You know, we're doing it for future self, because there
are things that may be difficult now, but our future
self will be like easy, No big deal, she's comfortable

(07:42):
with it. I think about where I used to be
with public speaking, making content, running a business of this size.
Past me couldn't do it, she'd be shitting herself. But
having a podcast, like, what the hell do I talk about? Now?
We're over one hundred episodes in and I'm you know,
so future you, we will be comfortable with it because
you're taking all those steps. So we're going to plan

(08:04):
for your future self. Okay, we have a seven step approach,
because guys, you know how much I love alistical and
I love steps. Okay, Step one, we're going to write
a description of our current selves. So describe how you
currently live, work, and how you show up and include
your habits, your confidence, your visibility, your energy levels, anything
that kind of really shapes who you are right now.

(08:26):
Think about how you would describe yourself to someone else,
how your friends would describe you. Let me just say
this is probably something we can do quite well in
a way, because I think we're all very critical of ourselves.
It's like some of the things that we say about
ourselves and to ourselves, we would never say that about
our friend. We will never talk about the way someone

(08:48):
else looks, or that someone else can or can't achieve something.
We will never talk about another person like the way
we tell ourselves. So first of all, we need to
stop that. But second, old, this is the time to
be critical, right, I'm giving you permission to be super
critical and write all those things down because we're leaving
her anyway. Hey, pottyfam. For those of your dreamers out

(09:12):
there ready to start building your own online business, the
Lazy CEO Business Course is for you. It's ten modules
packed with visuals, live examples covering everything from sourcing product
to marketing and scaling. You can go at your own pace,
re visit lessons whenever you need, and actually see results.
If you even stuck wondering where to start or what

(09:34):
to do next, this course gives you the step by
step guide to finally make it happen. And because you're
part of the Pottyfam, grab twenty percent of with the
Code podcast twenty head to the lazyco dot com and
start building your business your way. We're going to have
a few examples that will carry us through this exercise.

(09:56):
For example, I run a successful business, but feel tired
more often than i'd like to admit. I prioritize work
over my health and squeeze exercise In last I would
love to build a personal brand and have an audience
with more followers, but I am inconsistent online and don't
know what to talk about. So look at the strains
that you rely on, the patterns that you repeat, the

(10:19):
things that you would avoid, but importantly what you're proud
of but don't admit enough. Okay, So that's step one,
a clear self assessment of yourself. Step two is of course,
to buy the description of your future self. What is
describe the version of you that you are going to become.
Focus also on how you feel along with what you've achieved.

(10:39):
I think what we need to do is start with
a five year direction. I think this is where you
can more realistically look at big things that will shift
the needle. Where will you be in five years time?
And give yourself the permission to like think big. That
will give you the permission to really think outside of
your every day think long term and just go what

(11:01):
if I completely yollowed? Let's break it down into knowing
that five year goal, what do you think we want
to get to in one year's time? Like what will
your future self be in a year's time? And do
this for obviously your business, your personal goals, your health,
your mind, well being, whatever it is, travels, savings, financial goals,

(11:22):
get this all down, how would you like your friends
to describe you in a year's time from now, from
five years from now? Also, who are those friends? And
then your next step is to actually translate this identity
into goals. So you start with what the goal is,
so what does that look like in a year's time,
But then the thing that you need to to make
it actually happen is to actually put in the sorry.

(11:46):
You have to put in your output goals. Say for
your personal brand, you want to have one hundred thousand followers, right,
But the things that you're going to put in as
actionable steps every week is I'm going to post four
times a week. I'm going to post on these three platforms.
I'm going to spend four hours a week on making
content or working my personal brand, reaching out to the media,

(12:10):
crafting my message. Focus on what the goal is, what
does that look like at the end of the year,
and then translate that into tangible steps that you can
do throughout the year. And you can start small. Maybe
start like your January and'll put in two hours a week.
Come fab you're going to do three because you will
get more and more momentum. You could also start strong
because at the start of the year, you have the motivation.

(12:32):
So I think it depends on what it is. Maybe
if it's the gym and you're not going to the gym,
you start small. If you do five days, you're buying
yourself out. But maybe if it's content, you're like, you
know what, I want to just go big and just
spend a lot of time on it, because as I
get better at it, I'll be quicker at editing. I'll
know what my message is, I know exactly what content
is working, and it will take less time. So whatever

(12:54):
that might be, So use this time really, especially right now, guys,
it's the second week of the year. It's the start
of the year. It's not that busy. You don't have
a million slack messages flying through everywhere. Not everyone's back
at whack, So you've got that extra bit of time
to just really work on yourself and set yourself up
for the year. Don't rush this process. As much as

(13:15):
I love to be lazy and efficient, don't rush this.
Use this time for really deep self reflection, to really
think about what you want and what you need to
shift the needle, and we'll give you a little bit
of a lazy ceo huck it, and that is to
then imput all of this into CHATGBT and see what

(13:35):
you're missing. I do think chatgbt probably knows you better
than you or your friend or therapist might know you.
I'm not here to give actual advice, but I honestly
think my chatgybt knows me more than I know myself
than if I was to get advice from someone else.
So ask your chatgebt what am I missing? You know,
look for just like any blind spots, and you'd be

(13:57):
surprised what it can come up with and how al
So what I love is sometimes you might have a
chaotic idea and it just doesn't seem Sometimes you're like
is this even a thing? And chagybt will systemize it
and almost like validate it. You know, it does sometimes
just gives you. It sounds like it's just there to
give you a pep dooc, but it does validate and
systemize some of your like more crazy hair brained ideas.

(14:19):
I need to really emphasize that you don't be lazy
and go straight to chaggybt. Use this time to really
think for yourself. It's just there to catch a new gaps,
because otherwise you just have generic goals like everyone else,
and it's only as good as the inputs, So really
spend that time really describing, critiquing who you are, and
being honest with who your future self needs to be.

(14:42):
And of course, goals are only as good as written
goals until you actually turn them into actions and habits.
It's all well and good right now, we're all feeling
pretty motivated at the start of a year. But what's
going to happen motivation fades, it does. What's going to
carry us through all those lazy, messy, busy, stressful days

(15:04):
is when we turn these goals into habits. So I've
actually already made a podcast about nine habits to help
you actually get shit done, so I'll link that in
the show notes, so please go check that out, because,
like I said, these goals are only as good as
the actual actions that you take, and these actions will

(15:25):
not happen if you don't make them into habits. Twenty
twenty six, let's do this, guys, partly. Fam we are
going to crush this year together and I have the
best thing to kick us off next week, and that
is our Personal Branding podcast series. So it's my first
mini series and I will have to say this is

(15:45):
probably the best piece of content I've ever put together,
so you guys are gonna love this. We talk about
why it's important to build a personal brand, and trust me,
it's more than what you think it is. It is
more important than ever because when the age where technology
is accessible by anyone AI is taking over. Most things
can be automated and so the only defensible mote you have,

(16:06):
the only thing that you can truly own and grow
over time, is your personal brand. There is no way
if you work in your personal brand you'll regret it
in the future. So start now and then so we're
going to talk about how to really work out what
your personal brand is, because this is another thing to
glaze over. The littlest shift will set a trajectory for
your future direction, and this will set the tone and

(16:28):
the direction for everything that you do. And then we're
going to look at nine steps of how you can
actually build your personal brand. I'll share with you how
I build my personal brand from being little jaymeb ex
accountant with no experience in the industry to being recognized
as an industry expert and a shark shark tank. Then
we're going to talk about one of the most important

(16:49):
things to actually build your personal brand, and that is
social media and content because in the Internet error attention
is our currency. So it's all about how we get
attention and how we make content that people actually want
to watch and subscribe to and listen and share with
their friends and save down. So I talk about the
five different levels of content creation, what each level means,

(17:12):
and how you can get up the levels. Now does
sound like I'm trying to sell a multi level marketing scheme?
I promise you I'm not, but yes, we go up
the pyramid. I'm going to talk about that. And lastly,
very importantly is I know we're all busy business founders,
and if you're not a founder yet, you're probably a
busy professional that is thinking about your side hustle. So

(17:32):
regardless you're like, how the hell do I fit all
of this in on top of my already busy schedule. Well,
we're going to talk about it. This is going to
be one hell of a little mini series to kick
us off. Before I forget, We're going to be back
on Monday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. You're gonna get
so sick of me, but it's going to be the
best week ever and hopefully life changing. Guys, we're going

(17:54):
to do this together and we are going to go
on a journey. So tune in on Monday and let's
do this. Okay, that's it from me for now. Thanks
for listening. If you're loving the podcast, don't forget to follow,
and I would love it if you can do me
a favor and leave us a review and if you
