Speaker 2 (00:32):
Hello Darby, hi Mikayla, hi listeners, oh my
gosh.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
I feel like I forgot how to do this.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
I know we're back and better than ever.
Took a little summer break, butand kind of spring and kind of
spring, it's kind of a springand summer break.
It's fine.
But the important thing is wecame back, we're back, we're
here, we're fresh, rested andready to go and dive back into
the podcasting world.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
It's kind of like end of season one.
Now we're starting like seasontwo, kind of.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
We're're gonna have some new.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
I think like collateral michaela's been
working on has been cooking, cooking on canva a little bit,
we'll see, as always, um solet's do life.
Check-in darby.
What have you been up to over a?

Speaker 1 (01:14):
break um someone cue work by rihanna because that's
what I've been doing, yeah, alot of work.
It was really busy.
So during the spring, um one ofmy colleagues who I work really
close with, she was onmaternity leave and so I kind of
stepped into her role while shewas out on maternity leave.
So I was kind of doing two jobsat once and crushing it.

(01:36):
I did kind of do a good job.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yeah, you did.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
But it was a lot so, but yeah, so I did that and
that's been good.
And then just some likecelebrations you know, some
friends got married.
And then like trips I got to goto colorado and visit some
friends and I feel like I did so.
I went to vermont and that wasfun for a family trip, so it's
been good.

(02:00):
Yeah, fun.
What about you?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
I got married.
Yeah, she did so officially.
A missus, um, she's a wife.
Yep, uh, crazy.
It's still weird to hear um,you got two rings on now.
Yeah, marlon, I just got usedto calling josh my fiance and
now it doesn't even matter, Igotta get used to husband now,
well, I almost called you abride and I was like, wait, no,
she.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
No, she's not a bride , she's a wife, a whole wife.
I was talking to my parentswere here this weekend and I was
talking to my mom and evenmyself I'm like it's so weird
that I'm Mrs, I'm Mrs Freilich, mrs Darby, like what.
That's so weird.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I know Well, I still call Josh's mom Mrs Kristen.
Really, it's just one of thoselike I you know, that's the way
I was raised I call them mr andmrs kristin, and then it just
like they never told me to callthem anything else, so it just
kind of stuck.
Yeah, although she did like Ithink a few months ago was like
you're gonna have to stopcalling me that like, but she

(02:57):
didn't give me an alternative,so I've just been avoiding
addressing her directly alltogether, because that's the
only thing in my brain.
But I'm like but now I'm MrsChristy.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Growing up I was like a Mrs like first name, or Mr
First name.
I didn't do last name, but Idon't, I think I did Justin's
parents, I think I did just likecall them their names, I think,
because once I got to college Iwas starting to feel a little
more awkward like calling peoplelike Mr and Mrs.
That I was like similar, like Idon't know, and it's hard when

(03:29):
you're the only one too, like soI think I just kind of gauged
like what the rest of hisfriends called them and stuff
like that.
My mom with Justin, I think, like she gave, like I think her
and I brainstormed like what todo, because if it was like my
mom, she'd be like he can callme mom, but like that's not.
I feel like justin, you know,like I don't know, I was just
like I don't know.
So she's mama d and that, sothat's, that's her, and we like

(03:52):
brainstormed it that's good.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah, I a lot of um.
The friends called josh's momjoe mama because his little
brother's name is joe.
I'm like I can't call her that.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Because that just doesn't make sense.
But Josh calls my parents Mrand Mrs K, which is, I think,
like they told him that theycould call him by his first name
.
But again, we're just kind ofstuck in that like hard
transition.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
It's whenever you're like introduced to first, as you
know, like and yeah.
Yeah, it's weird, it's tough,it's weird.
But you are Mrs Kristen, I amMrs Kristen, I'm Mrs Fralick
Crazy, we are the Mrs.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
But yeah, that was pretty much my entire life up
through the wedding.
Still a little bit nowafterwards, but we've definitely
come down from that.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
It was a gorgeous wedding.
It was so like when you thinkof someone who, like puts in so
much detail and like genuinethought, and not even for like
yourself, but just for like aguest's perspective.
It was so great and so like you.
There were so many bookelements.
To our listeners that was.
They were so fun.

(05:01):
Her seating chart was a, abookcase my pride and joy, yeah
that she made herself with hercricket, and you thrifted books
right, I thrifted books.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
My grandma had a bunch of old encyclopedias I was
able to use, so I got fabric onthe clearance sale at Joanne's
and I glued and covered and thenused the cricket to add the
names on the spine.
I'll share pictures.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Yeah, and you had the Mad Libs thing, like, where you
fill in the blanks.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
So people got to write their own stories, which
was cool, it was all so great,it was so special.
Thank you.
Yeah, it was honestly, trulythe perfect day.
Like nothing went wrong, beautiful weather, like
everything just was like fallingperfectly in the place.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
So it could not have been a better, a better time to
give you context.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Um listeners, my husband said he had more fun at
this wedding than ours in adifferent way, it definitely
helps that you're not the onegetting married, but we had a
little more free time on ourhands yeah, josh, and I had a
great time, though, and it wasso nice and everybody was able
to come, and you just like feltsurrounded by so much love.
And I had a great time, though, and it was so nice and
everybody was able to come, andyou just like felt surrounded by
so much love and it was a funparty and, yeah, couldn't

(06:11):
couldn't have asked for a betterday shout out Friday weddings
yeah, two day like recovery wasso great that does help.
Yeah, we were a little nervousabout it because trying to like
ask people to take time off fromwork to come to the Friday but
I think people actually reallyappreciated that and it helped
to seeing, like extended familythat came in for the weekend, so
then you were able to like seethem a little bit longer too,

(06:33):
kind of thing, without such aquick turnaround.
Um, yeah, everything justworked out perfectly.
But that's pretty much my onlyupdate, because that was the
only thing going on in my lifefor a while.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
There's I love that well from the break, what was
your five star and one starmoment, or of, like the summer?

Speaker 2 (06:51):
um, okay, well, definitely five star would be
the wedding, obviously,obviously.
Um, my one star moment uh, rip, pizza rizzo at disney world's
hollywood studios.
Um, so for listeners who don'tknow Me, at Walt Disney World
Hollywood Studios they had theMuppets Courtyard where they had

(07:15):
like the Muppet Vision 3D, likeit's not a ride but like
experience show kind of thing, and they have this quick service
restaurant called pizza rizzo, based off of like the rat rizzo
in um for like the whole muppetsand it's just personal size
pizzas that are, like you know, the frozen pieces heat up really

(07:38):
quick.
Josh and I are obsessed.
We love them.
There's something about thepizzas that are just like chef's
kiss and it's a little pixiedust on top it's wrapped pizza
you can't beat it.
That's like the whole slogan, ifyou know, you know, anyway, but
they're redoing a lot of partsin Hollywood Studios now,
including the Muppet Courtyardthat's being like rethemed, I

(08:01):
believe, to Monsters Incor, monsters incorporated from what
I've heard.
Don't quote me on that ifthat's wrong, but I'm pretty
sure that's right.
Um, I do know that wholecourtyard, though, is being
closed and renovated to becompletely rethemed, so the
muppets in that area are no more, and thus pizza rizzo is no

(08:21):
more.
We did make a trip out.
We did wear t-shirts that saidRIP Pizza Rizzo, oh my gosh, and
we did get a picture.
Are we crazy?
Yes, was it really that deep?
No, but it was to us.
And that is my one star momentRIP Pizza Rizzo.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
It sounds like it affected you hard.
It hit me.
I wish I could relate or likeknow of what it was, but I'm so
sorry for you.
It's okay.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
I appreciate it, maybe the new place will be even
better.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
I hope so.
I hope so.
Change is hard, no matter what.
It is the nostalgia, just hits.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
It's just a funny theming for Muppets people.
I know a lot of people don'tlike them, but we like them and
it was just fun.
No, that is fun.
Anyway, what about you?
What are your five-starone-stars?

Speaker 1 (09:07):
So kind of similar.
Obviously, putting on those twolarge-scale events were my
five-star.
One of them was like arecord-breaking event raising
more than half a million dollarsto grant wishes.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
You did that, that's really cool.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Yeah, it was.
Just it's hard to explainevents, because most large scale
events that a person will planin their lifetime is a wedding,
which is a huge deal in itself,um, but it's fundraising.
Events are kind of hard cause.
It's not just the event, butit's also like the fundraising
aspect of the event and it beingknow like not just like you

(09:45):
know 200 people, but like over athousand people and there's a
lot more vendors.
Like it's just crazy and I'mjust a girl, so you're a girl
who crushed.
Thank you, it was really cool.
I was really proud of myself andI learned that maybe I can't
take compliments because so manypeople were giving me like lots

(10:05):
of like kudos and praise a lotbecause of my demeanor.
I was so calm during like eventweeks, which that's like not
always the case with some eventcoordinators and leads, but
people just kept telling me howcalm they felt about the events
and helping with the eventsbecause of like the calmness
that I radiated, which wasreally cool.

(10:26):
That was such a neat compliment, um, and makes me feel like
proud of myself, so that wasreally great.
I'm proud of you, thank you.
So I loved it.
I can't wait for when ourfriends can go to like we.
I plan to walk in a gala forthe listeners and I'm excited
for one day when our friends canlike get a table at a gala and
they can like see.

(10:47):
Because it's like, even like myparents came to the gala, which
was also really cool becauseyou're always like, are you
proud of me?
And it's like I want you to seewhat I did, like you don't.
Some people don't understandhow big it is until they're
there.
So it was kind of hard for meto think there wasn't like a

(11:08):
specific moment.
But, honestly, cleaning it'sforever, it never ends, ever and
it's really a bummer.
So that's what a one star.
Because it's like, as soon as Icleared the table, it's the
next week and things go back onthe table.
And as soon as I put the dishesaway, now I gotta clean the
sink.
Because there's like, as soonas I cleared the table, it's the
next week and things go back onthe table.
And as soon as I put the dishesaway, now I got to clean the
sink because there's grime fromthe dishes that are in the sink.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
As soon as you take out the trash, it fills up right
away again.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Yeah, or you deep clean the house to have guests
over and then when guests areover it gets freaking messy
again and now I feel like I haveto deep clean it again.
I've really been.
I'm not in a place where I canafford like someone to come once
a month and like, do, like thebaseboards and like the stuff.
I really don't want to do, butI really want to get someone to
come in once a month.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Actually, I've been seeing this debate on TikTok and
I'm curious if you had to hireeither a personal chef or a
housekeeper Housekeeper, see, Ithink I would go.
Personal chef no, because asmuch as I hate the cleaning, I
despise grocery shopping.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Do my laundry.
I hate laundry.
I'll come over and cook for you.
You can come do my laundry, yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
I like this idea.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Yeah, that's neat, though I mean grocery shopping
you should do where you can doit online, and then you pull up
and they just bring you yourgroceries I tried.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
I've tried doing a bunch of different things.
We've tried like the hellofresh, which works for a little
bit.
It's been hard for us becausejosh travels a lot for his work
and so then it's like cookingfor myself, which is even harder
to do when it's hard enough forme to cook just for two of us.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
And Josh is Just girl dinner.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Actually, josh has been cooking more, which so he's
been kind of like dabbling inthat, having fun with that when
he is here, which is fun.
So he's kind of starting totake that on a little bit more,
which I'm like, by all means, because I just it's not even the
.
I enjoy the process of cookingand the payoff.
The process of cooking and thepayoff, it's the planning and

(13:07):
everything to lead up to that.
It's the figuring out therecipe.
What do you need?
Going to the store and like allof those little steps that lead
up to like actually getting themeal and like the ingredients
to cook that I just yeah, it'sexhausting.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Maybe I need to send you some like simpler recipes.
You know, like a five items orless, like everything, or
because a lot of times I thinkthe ingredients that can get
overwhelming are like the spices, but then once you buy one of
them, it's like you're going tohave garlic powder for like a
year, you know.
So I'll send you what Justinand I do, what we do.
It's so basic.

(13:38):
We just put like Monday, tuesday, like we put the week in
our notes, and then we just saylike what we're gonna do for
that week for dinners and who'sgonna cook what, and then a lot
of times we'll leave the weekendlike open, or we'll throw a day
if we can't think of somethinglike and we'll leave it open, or
maybe that'll be a leftover dayor frozen pizza night, um, but

(13:59):
I have seen josh and I talkedabout starting this once his
traveling schedule dies down alittle bit more.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
On TikToks I don't remember who it was because it
was a while ago, but somebodysaid instead of meal prepping
they protein prep.
So they'll buy like chicken orground beef or whatever and
they'll just cook it all and putit in the fridge or the freezer
.
And that way you're not havingto like plan out your meals per

(14:25):
se ahead of time, because ifyour taste changed like if you
decide you want you, you knowyou plan tacos for tuesday, but
then tuesday comes around andyou're like I really don't want
tacos.
Well, then it keeps it flexible, because then you can choose
whatever protein and it'salready cooked.
It takes that time away, soyou're just adding it into like
a sauce or adding it to like asheet pan or something, or like

(14:46):
adding the extra sides to it, soit's all cooked together, which
I thought was an interestingtake on meal prepping.
So then you're not like eatingthe same thing over again or
having to remember to go to thestore to pick up everything
either every day or everythingfor the week.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Yeah, I think too I don't know if that would work
for me, but that is interesting.
I've seen that with produce, because that's my hardest part
about cooking is like thechopping of the vegetables and
the cleaning of the fruit andeverything that's where I'm like
, oh, this is gonna take foreverbeing an adult man.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
It's just, it's exhausting.
You don't realize it untilyou're here, and then you're
like it, it's never ending.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
It's never ending.
And I was at.
I went to the mall yesterdaywith my mom, which was a bad
idea because it was liketax-free weekend or whatever,
and back to school and it'ssummer and we live in a touristy
area.
It's just crazy.
But even so, I was like lookingin some of like the high-end
designer stores who are justlike window shopping, and I'm
like this is so insane designerstores who are just like window

(15:47):
shopping.
And I'm like this is so insane, like thinking about just having
like like an irrational amountof wealth.
Like all of these stores are solike unattainable, like I can't
buy anything here.
I can't even buy like a littlewallet there.
And it's like for what and whydo you get to use nice quality
fabrics and I have to go usesomething cheap, right, I don't

(16:07):
know.
Maybe I'm like spiraling, but Iwas just like this is such a
bummer, I don't know.
I was just I don't know.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
I was like that's so crazy why can't I just buy
things, yeah, why can't I winthe lottery?
That's where I'm at right now.
Reality just hits real hardsometimes, and it's not, it's a
one-two punch that you neverlook forward to, no and that's
why we live in our books.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Yep, and speaking of books, we're about to enter a
new world.
Oh, that transition, though,thank you.
So for our next book club pick,we're gonna be reading mistborn
by brandon sanderson.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
I'm really excited about this one because I've been
like circling the BrandonSanderson universe for a while
Just kind of intimidated.
There's a lot I'm trying tofigure out when and where I want
to like start and everybodysays Mistborn is a good like
starter spot and it's reallygood.
It's like a trilogy, so it'snot like super time consuming or

(17:03):
anything like that, and it's afantasy book so we get to go and
escape the reality for a littlebit I hope it's fun, it'll be
good.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Like a third of justin's cousins have read it
and I was like, oh my gosh, it'scrazy.
Yeah, he's like huge.
You said when you brought thisup because it's probably close
to a year ago that you broughtup like wanting to get into
brandon sanderson I was like Ihave no who that is, but I'm
down because whatever you sayI'm usually down for.
And then when I looked into himI was like holy cow, this guy
is a pretty, pretty big author.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Yeah, so he's really popular.
That's what one of Josh'scousins at the wedding was
talking to me about him too andI'm like, oh, you should read
this guy.
Oh, yeah, no, I've heard him.
So we were talking a little bitabout that because I guess he's
an avid reader too.
Yeah, no, I'm excited to dip mytoes in this.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
I think it'll be fun because I think it'll be good to
get into kind of like an epicfantasy world.
Not that I don't love, like ourromantic fantasy worlds, but
it'll just be somethingdifferent, which will be good.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
I agree, and it's not super big compared to most like
fantasy books that I to like.
From what I don't.
I can't speak for the rest ofthe books in the series, but I'm
pretty sure what I've seen likethe first one isn't too bad,
like sized, like nothing crazykind of book too.
So yeah, I think it'll be agood I'm excited.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
So join us on fable.
If you want to read that at thesame time as us, we're gonna go
ahead and throw that on thereso you can hear our thoughts in
live time.
It's really fun.
I love it.
You'll see like sometimes, likeMikaela will be on like a
reading kick or I'll be on areading kick and we'll each like
have our own like thoughts likego, go, go.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
And then it's fun when there's already a comment
on there to be like oh my gosh, they've thought this, I think
this be like oh my gosh, they'vethought this, I think this, and
we'd love to hear your commentstoo.
So come join us, please, but atleast for today and this
episode, we're we're justcatching up.
We're back, baby, and we're,you know, gonna be discussing
some pop culture moments, literary world, what's going on,

(18:58):
reflecting on 2025 book journeyso far and just kind of, you
know, catching up before thesecond half of the year really
hits yeah, let's do it all right.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
My pop culture queen, I feel like you always know
what's going on in the world.
Are there any newsworthymoments or cool trends that have
caught your attention thissummer, maybe like some book
adaptations that are coming outthat you might be curious about?

Speaker 2 (19:23):
so I am so hype for the odyssey coming out starring
matt damon.
Oh, I am such a greek mythologygirly and just seeing like I
know this has been like talkedabout for a long time and I just
it seems like it's going to belike.
It seems like it's just goingto be huge, getting like

(19:44):
oppenheimer kind of feel, whereit's like movie of the like the
summer kind of I don't know whenit's coming out, but like
that's kind of like feel to it.
Movie of the year, yeah yeah Idon't know.
I'm really excited.
I think I'm pretty sure.
I said that I'm pretty positive.
It's matt damon.
I'm so sorry if I'm wrong, butI'm I don think I am, but I
think that that's going to bereally good and like seeing like

(20:06):
the stacked cast that's in itand I who else is in it?

Speaker 1 (20:10):
I haven't heard anything about it, tom.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Holland Zendaya Anne Hathaway.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Wait, Tom Holland and Zendaya, that would be fun.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
I don't know.
I know Tom Holland playsOdysseus' son, telemachus.
I think that's his name, maybenot.
I totally could have butcheredthat, but I know that's who he
plays.
And then Zendaya I'm not surewho she is because that's the
older thing too.
They're kept very tight-lipped.
So on IMDb, if you go, you cansee all the actors, but it only

(20:42):
lists who's playing Odysseus andthat Tom Holland's playing his
son, like I probably had to putTom Holland, because we know he
can't keep a secret.
Just put his out there already,it's so true, so well that'll be
interesting yeah, I'm verycurious to see how that goes um,
and I hope that it lives up tothe hype that I'm building in my
brain, um, but I think that'llbe good.

(21:03):
Yeah, um, a few more like bookto movie adaptation news that
I've been seeing the Housemaidmovie coming out with Sidney
Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried.
That one's kind of old news butlike new news.
And since we haven't talkedabout it in the pod since our
break, I think it's greatcasting.
I think it's great casting too,and I'm really curious to see it

(21:24):
because I remember when we weretalking about it when we read
the book for a past book club.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Did you finish it or was that you didn't finish that
one?
But that was my critique of it,that you said that it would be
better.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Is that I think that it had nothing to do with the
plot.
It had everything to do withthe writing that I didn't like,
and so I think that I'd bereally interested to see it in
like a movie, tv series sort offormat, and so I am very curious
to see the movie now, and I dothink the casting was not one I
would have picked, but when Iheard it it made sense agreed,
agreed.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
I do hope it's.
I think it could go super, super well and it could
translate really well.
I'm just hoping it doesn't turnout like the Hunting Wives,
which is a note I have.
I watched the first episode andI know this is another book.
I don't even think we weredoing the podcast when we read
the.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
Hunting.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Wives.
This was way back in the daybut we read this the Hunting
Wives, as a book club book backbefore we did the pod, and this
was a book that Michaela didn'tfinish and it really wasn't a
great book.
I gave it like a two stars, maybe three stars.
It made me feel icky.
Yeah, it was kind of an ickyone, um, but the it came out in
a series and I was like, oh,maybe it'll be better as a

(22:32):
series.
Oh, my gosh, they made it solike raunchy and sexy and like I
literally thought I waswatching, like, like it was just
like way too porny.
Like there's more to the storyand yeah, a lot of the story has
to do with like lust and umstuff, but it was just way too
much for me in particular.
Um yeah, so I hope that itdoesn't take a turn.

(22:55):
Any book to screen can go oneor two ways.
But I really feel like that theHousemaid has some good
potential.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Yeah, I think so too.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
It's like don't do too much, just do what the book
said.
That's I think.
What I'm nervous for is thatthey're going to try and add
more to it which is what theHunting Wives has done.
I only watched the firstepisode of the hunting wives and
I'm not planning on watchingthe rest of the season because I
just don't like it.
Um, but if they can just do themovie like the book and not do

(23:27):
too much, yeah, I think it'll bereally good we shall see.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
I am excited, though another casting that came out
that I sent you immediately whenI saw it was for the
Nightingale which is going, ourfavorite book, love.
Um, I cry.
But Dakota and Elle Fanning gotcast as the sisters, which is
again another like casting Iwould have never pulled, but
when I saw it it made sense inmy brain yes, they were

(23:54):
definitely brunette in my headwhen I was reading the books.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
But, like this show makes sense, I'm so intrigued to
see like who's gonna play likewhich sister.
And yeah, I'm really interestedand I feel like, well, I'm not
really familiar with the fanningsisters.
I mean, I'm obviously familiarwith them, but I don't know if
I've really seen them in roleslike this together.
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
I don't think they've done anything together that
I've seen.
Yeah, I would assume thatDakota would be Vivian, is that
right?
Yeah, I could see that too, andthen Elle would be Isabel,
because they're older andyounger in that way.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
Based on their character.
Yeah, the character, what I'veseen, the stereotypes that they
usually play.
Yeah, I feel like, actually, yeah, that makes more sense.
Never mind, I'm not confused onwho's going to play who.
If they do reverse, then I'mgoing to be a little confused.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
Yeah, me too, but I'm excited.
Yeah, no, that's another one, though that I really, really
hope that they just they stickto the source don't do too much.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
You don't gotta do too much, just you literally
have a script and a storylineright there.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Yep, I get things have to be cut from a book
because you know you can't haveeverything in like a really long
book and you only have like twohours to fill up within a movie
.
I understand there are thingsthat aren't going to make the
cut.
However, comma, yeah, don't.
Don't like you said, don't dotoo much, don't add in things
that are unnecessary, yeah yeah, agreed, we just gotta leave it,
and I stand by that.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
My other thing, though not book related, but I
feel like it should be k-popdemon hunters madison and I did
watch this the other day, but itwas in the background where we
were like eating, catching upand stuff, but it was good, Okay
.
So, yeah, I liked it.
Justin came out and was likewhat the F is that?
He was like what is this?
And I was like it's K-pop,Demon Hunters.

(25:48):
So he was like and what is that?
And I was like, ask Mikaela.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
I am not a K-pop girly.
That is not my genre, stillisn't really my genre, my sister
is the one who's like you haveto watch this and I've been
hearing it on tiktok.
This is like when it startedbooming and everything.
I'm like are you kidding me?
Because you hear the title andyou're like, really, and it's
like a kid's movie.
I'm like I don't know aboutthis.
But she's like, no, no, no,trust, trust, you have to watch

(26:13):
this movie.
Yeah, okay.
So I went over and I watchedwith her.
I was like, okay, yeah, this ispretty good.
Yeah, um, it feels very muchlike, at least for me, the story
of the movie.
It's a kid's movie and it'sanimated, so like it's still
it's gonna be cheesy, you know, and um, it isn't like super

(26:34):
serious by any means.
They.
They have like little jokes andthings in there, but it's like
a kids movie in the sense oflike how Disney does kids movies
, where adults can still kind ofenjoy it too.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
With like a touch of like K-drama yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
But the story reminded me very much of like a
YA novel that we would read Likea fantasy YA novel and like
with the love interests andthings like that I enjoyed.
But what I enjoyed more thanthe movie are the songs.
Ironically, the songs are fire.
I can't stop listening to them.
They get stuck in my head allthe time and again.

(27:09):
I'm not a k-pop girly, but Iwill make the exception for
k-pop demon hunters becausesomething about those songs just
yeah hits.
My younger sister loves animeand I watched like one anime
that she recommended it was goodbut I've never read any because
something about those songsjust hits.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
My younger sister loves anime and I watched one
anime that she recommended andit was good.
But I've never read any mangabooks and she reads that too,
and so I'm really interested inif there's any sort of stories
that go along with this or what.
But it was good, it was fun.
I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
Yeah, I don't know, that was just one that it did.
It reminded me very much of aYA novel kind of plot points,
yeah, but then they added musicand it was fun.
So that's been popping off andI'm happy that it is yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
No, I hope they make another one Me too.
I think they have more toexpand on in that world.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
I think that would be cool.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
And it's just so popular.
There's no way that they're notgoing to.
Yeah, speaking of book andmovie adaptations, what's a book
that you would love to seeadapted that we might not know
is being adapted currently, um,or is being planned to, whether
it be a movie or tv series.
And then, what book shouldhollywood?
Never, ever touch.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
Um, so I think you and I had the same thought
process initially.
Yeah, the book that I wouldlove to see as a, I think a
movie would be better than theTV series, for it would be
Caraval, agreed, but the worldwould be so fun to see.
I think that the plot is likeintriguing enough but it's easy

(28:35):
to.
I feel like it's an easier oneto adapt for film and because,
like, the world is so visual,it'd be really fun to like see
how they put it together andjust be so fun to see her dress.
That changes with the motionit's like oh, it would be so fun
there's so many visual effectsthat I think would just work
really, really well on thescreen if they do it correctly.

(28:55):
So, yeah, that's one that Iwould love to see.
Uh, one that hollywood shouldnever touch and I'm probably in
the minority on this one sarah j.
Mass adaptations.
I get it.
I get why people want it,because they're so popular, it's
so hype right now.
But let's be honest, hollywoodis bound to screw it up, and I

(29:17):
just can't let that happen withthese books freesan does not
exist in real life we can't.
It's like all the fan castings, nothing truly like encapsulates
it and like, like I said, theadaptations you gotta, you gotta
make changes, you gotta cutthings and to fit within it.
But I just don't know what youcan do for those.
I just I'm so scared, I'm soscared, I don't want them to

(29:38):
touch that.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
Like, just let's leave, let it be let's find
another, because there's so manybooks that you're like, oh,
this would be so good like tosee it.
But then it's like the only goodones come around, like once in
like, like once in a million, you know, like game of thrones,
lord of rings, like those starwars yeah, that's like in marvel

(30:00):
, like, but there are so manythat I've like tried that can't
like.
I remember reading the fifthwave series which was kind of
like a sci-fi book, young youngadult book, back in high school
and they made it and like onlythe first movie got done because
I couldn't like finish it andit's like, oh, but it was so
good yeah.
But like yeah, I just don't, Idon't know.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
They're hard.
The books to the screen arejust.
That's a real tough one.
But what about you?
What would you?

Speaker 1 (30:25):
like to see?
I definitely so.
My initial thought was Carvel, but in trying to be different,
I'm going to choose A ThousandPieces of you by Claudia Gray.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
That would be a good one.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
We read that one earlier this year or last year.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
I think it was one of our first, first ones.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Oh yeah, actually, maybe right, we read it at some
point, there's a, there's anepisode on it, yeah, but I think
it would be really cool because, um, the plot of this book is
essentially it's like you areyou, but in different dimensions
and in different worlds anddifferent time periods, and so I
think it would be so cool.
Think of, like Vampire Diaries, like doppelgangers, like Elena

(31:06):
and Catherine, but so justthinking about an actor, actress
, because there are some greatones in Hollywood that I think
would be able to like playthemselves in different like
versions, and I think that wouldjust be really cool in
different like versions, and Ithink that would just be really
cool.
And then this settings, youknow, futuristic ones way back
when, ones that just like don'treally make sense, like they're
underwater, like for what?
So I think that would be reallycool and it you just need, like

(31:28):
the right actors it'd be coolseries.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
I think, like I think that would make a really good
tv series because of like it is,like the trilogy and the way
that they jump between worlds, Ithink would lend itself well to
a tv series.
Not that you couldn't make amovie out of it either, but like
between the two yeah, I couldsee this.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
Okay, thinking of ones that hollywood should never
touch was kind of hard for meactually, because I think most
just don't touch it like youcan't.
If you can't do it, don't do it, yeah, um, but what I also
thought of is, like most darkromances like it works in the
book but you can't do that inreal life, you know.
And so to give like just anactual book, I'm gonna say

(32:06):
credence.
So oh yeah, that's a great getany sort of step cousins,
anything involved with, yeah, 18year olds.
So no, that that's.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
That's a, that's a fantastic let's not make any of
those books into movies, justkeep it on your kindle, keep
your smut there.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Don't put the smut on the screen yeah, yeah, um, all
right.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
So what was your most memorable read during this
break?

Speaker 1 (32:30):
okay.
So I actually did read kind ofa lot of books on our
quote-unquote break um, becauseI had a little more free time
break from the pod.
That break from reading yeah, break from the pod, um, but so,
through the books that I read, Ihad two five star reads during
that time.
Yeah.
So the one of them was glow ofthe everking by penn cole, which

(32:54):
is the second book in the Sparkseries.
Spark of the Everking or Ever.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
I've heard a lot about that one.
It's on my list, yeah it wasreally good.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
I'm on the third book right now, but yeah, it was
just really good.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
That's all I got to say.
It was just five stars.
And then the other one wasPractice Makes Perfect by Sarah
Adams.
She's a romance author andbasically, if you've been
listening to the pod, I feellike I hyper fixate on a romance
author until I read all oftheir books.
It was Emily Henry, it was AbbyJimenez and now it's Sarah
Adams.
So I'm going through like allher books right now and it was

(33:28):
just like Practice Makes Perfectwas a perfect novel.
It was so good and light andquick and it's not like it was
anything of like.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
I'm so enlightened by this room but it was just like
it was a good, like it just fitlike filled a spot.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
So I really liked those and they're.
Those were both very different.
Five stars you know one'sfantasy one's romance, so I
liked those.
What about you, none?

Speaker 2 (33:56):
my entire break was just wedding.
I haven't had a whole lot oftime um so uh, but something
wait, your most memorable readwas your vows yeah, so true, uh,
but something that wasmemorable that was book related
for me.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
You already talked about oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't
mean to seal that.
No, no, no you're fine.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Um, was my bookcase or my bookshelf seating chart
from the wedding, because thatwas, that was my baby.
That was my pride and joy.
Blood, sweat and tears, like somany like months to like do it
to go through all the books andlike not only have to.
And then, which was honestlyreally fun, like just like I'd
put my headphones on yeah know, you get into a groove and you
just do it so I enjoyed it, butit did take me forever to do and

(34:41):
well, they looked professional,thank you.
And then the doing like thenames on the side was the
hardest part.
I got my parents helping me andlike they're getting so
frustrated when things aren'tlike transferring properly it's
hard for anyone who doesn't docricket stuff.
Sometimes it's really hard toget it to work and then there's
a lot of messing around withlike the colors and like what's

(35:02):
going on the bookshelf and stuff.
So that was like when it allcame together, seeing it all put
together uh name, a heart sing.
That was the most memorablelike reading related thing I
guess you could say from mysummer break how about reading
the, the guest book, all thedifferent Mad Libs that?
Was fun actually too.
Yeah, oh, that was a good one.
Why didn't I think of that Did?

Speaker 1 (35:21):
anyone surprise you with, like what their story was
and what they filled in or wrote, besides me, obviously.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
I would say I think yours is my favorite, Loki.
Actually, actually, oh my gosh,I don't know if they're any
surprising.
It was just kind of fun to seewhat people came up with.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
One of our friends was writing it with us and he
was like what's an adjective Forour listeners.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
I tried to make it like a storybook kind of
sounding paragraph or whateverthat people were filling in um,
and so yeah it was.
It was fun seeing like thereare some people that did really
sweet ones.
There are some people that didjust like absolutely outlandish
things and just like it matchedfor each person too.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Yeah, so that was I like tried to start with a theme
and then, like it just likefell off and I started doing
random things.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
But that was a good one I should have thought of
that, but no, you're good.
You're good say lovey, um okay.
But speaking of reading overthe summers, though, has your
reading taste changed at all?
Are there any like genres ortropes that you've started
really getting into, or any thatyou're like completely over?

Speaker 1 (36:29):
So not anything like crazy over the summer, but I've
just really been into the SarahAdams books and so they're like
cheesy romances, so it's likesuper predictable spot or spot,
super predictable plot, butthey're just so easy to read and
quick and like great audiobooks and it's still just like.

(36:51):
They're just like cute.
So I don't know, I've just beenlike running through those and
I don't know I've just been likerunning through those and I
don't know if that's like achange from what I do.
But I guess Emily, henry andAbby Jimenez I wouldn't call
those like elevated romancebooks.
But you know, the likeprotagonist normally has like a
backstory or something else isgoing on with them and while

(37:11):
Sarah Adams like does, it feelslike cheesier, like I feel like
Sarahah adams could be likehallmark movies, you know um,
whereas like emily, henry andabby hymnas have like a little
more to them.
Uh.
So I don't know.
I guess I would say that tropesinsta love though, which is
sometimes sarah adams, a lot ofhers, they do have insta love.

(37:32):
I'm like, okay, no, you can'tjust be in love, you have to
like no, you gotta go through it.
Yeah, so I still love likeenemies to lovers and something
a little more fun than just like.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
I'm in love with you yeah, no, I can't do instant
love either I'm trying to think.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
I think that's really it.
I don't know what about you?

Speaker 2 (37:51):
um, I wouldn't call it a change, but more of an
evolution I'm really vibing withlike the epic fairy, like
fantasy books right now yeah um,I think ever since I got josh
to re-watch the lord of therings because he watched it for
the first time I was re-watched.
For me it just kind of likekicked this, like I love my
romanticity but like wantingthat more like epic portion of

(38:13):
it.
Um, which is why I'm reallyexcited for our book club book,
um, but okay, so this might be ahot take.
But I am also kind of overevery celebrity feeling like
they have to publish a book, whether it be a memoir or I've
noticed some people I think morelike micro celebrity
influencers actually writingtheir own like book books yeah

(38:35):
uh like fiction book yeah, likehannah brown.
Granted, I did buy the first onefor because I'm kind of
intrigued.
I'm like if hannah brown wrotea romance novel, what would it
be?
So I have it and I'm going toread it, but also at the same
time like no, no hater shade toher, because obviously I did buy
the book and I like her andeverything.
But I feel like I've seen likethat trend happen now, where
more people are starting to doit.

(38:55):
I'm like do we need this.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
It's like when kylie and kentel jenner made their
like book.
Remember they made a fantasybook exactly.
They were in like high school.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
It's just like is this, do we need this?
Is this necessary?
Like yeah, I think.
Like let's stay in our lanesjust a little bit more.
You know, I get it.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
But also they're kind of just using their platform,
like if I had the platform, likeI'd try and write a book, I'd
try so many avenues if I had anysort of influence.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
Like you know, that's true, your bag yeah, I mean, if
people are gonna read it,people will read it.
I won't be reading it and it'sjust kind of like when you're
seeing like all the celebritiescome out with like their own
makeup lines because it's likewhat's popular right now, then
all of a sudden you see a likean upsurge in like celebrities
coming out with whatever thatthing is like.
It was tequila.
For a while.
Everybody, everybody, washaving like their own tequila

(39:38):
brand and there's makeup, andnow I feel like it's books and
so you're just like.

Speaker 1 (39:42):
I'm more so with you on the memoirs, though I'm like
not, we don't need to know allyour life stories.
Yeah like should I just do mylife story like I got some lore,
you know, like.

Speaker 2 (39:52):
So I don't know I'm like britney spears is like
interesting life, like you wantto, you want to hear about, like
all the crazy stuff that wasgoing on for her.
But then some people it's likenot to say your life isn't
interesting.
But is it truly interestingenough for me to sit down and
take hours on my day to read abook about it?

Speaker 1 (40:05):
yeah, probably not yeah, I mean yeah to them.
It is, but it just, who knows?

Speaker 2 (40:10):
more power to you, I guess, yeah, but that is
something I'm kind of definitelyover okay thing.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
Do you think your reading taste matches your real
life personality?
I think so.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
I like to learn new things.
I'm always like I love learningdifferent fun facts or whatever
, just like knowing a why behindthings, which I think is
reflected in my reading taste, because it's like I have such an
eclectic taste.
I like reading from alldifferent genres, including like
non-fictions, um, and so Ithink that like that kind of

(40:43):
like helps and you're like Idon't know, you're just like
dabbling and learning new thingsfrom different parts, uh, or
even if it's not learning, it'slike entertainment from
different parts.
I guess, um, and I like booksthat like challenge me, make me
think, um, whether it's likereally complex, like world
building, or like the mystery,or even like even romance books,
where it's like a simple littlelove triangle but it's like

(41:03):
who's she gonna end up with inthe end, or who's gonna end up
with?

Speaker 1 (41:06):
um, I like the, I like the challenge you're very
detail-oriented person and youlike a book with like details
and like a lot to it.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
Yeah, you're much more succinct about that than I
am, but yeah, that's that's to at exactly.
What about you?

Speaker 1 (41:20):
I'm not sure I'm gonna have to get your thoughts
on myself.
I feel like I can't evaluatemyself.
I feel like I'm too biased, Ithink I also think I took this
slightly different than you.
I feel like I'm putting myselflike in the books I'm reading oh
, I like that I took it.
So I feel like I'm satisfiedwith a little like less romance,
like than what a romance bookoffers.
Like in my life I don't needsuper like cheesy grand gestures

(41:43):
Justin, you can totally do somemore but I'm satisfied.
And then I like love adventure, but I don't know if I go on as
many as I'd like and then Idon't know if I'm as strong of
like a leader as the girls infantasy books.
So that's like how I was takingit is like putting myself like
in the books that I like, so Idon't know if I actually

(42:03):
answered the question.
No, I think you did, but likewhat do?

Speaker 2 (42:05):
you think no, because like I don't know if I match my
reading taste no, you didbecause, like, even when you
mentioned, like you loveadventure, which you do, and
yeah, okay, you're not going onlike this across the country
like epic adventure to save theworld, but you do love to travel
and like go and try new thingsand explore and meet different
people, which matches, and Ifeel like you love positive and

(42:28):
like you love a happy ending andwhich I think is really
reflected in like a lot of yourromance books and things like
that that you read.
So, yeah, I think it does.
Okay, cool, thanks.

Speaker 1 (42:47):
Reflect in like a lot of your romance books and
things like that that you read,uh, and so, yeah, I think it
does okay, cool, thanks, um,okay, fun question.
If you could vacation in anybook setting for the summer,
where would you want to go?
Okay, I've been on my sarahadams kick, so I think the
setting for when?
In rome, which is like in romek Rome, kentucky, actually, um,
so I think that's kind of whatthe ploy is for the book, um,
but it just seems like a cutelittle small town.
Everyone like knows everyoneand everyone like you're just

(43:08):
saying it's happy it's a happytown with happy little people.
So I think that would be fun tovacation to, or, um, emily
Henry's people we meet onvacation, because then I'd go
all over because in the bookthey go and travel to many
different places.
Then I'd get to hit up a bunchof places at once, so that one
was kind of like cheating thequestion because then I could go
nope, that works multiplethings.

(43:29):
Where are you vacationing, um?

Speaker 2 (43:33):
I have a little bit of a loophole to my own question
see, I just used a loophole too, so throw it in.
So, but it was just to avoid.
Like the obvious answer would Ifeel like, is the summer court
from Akatar for me, like that'sjust like immediately what my
brain went to, but to avoid likethat's just like an obvious,
like cheesy kind of answer, soit would be more creative.

(43:53):
I think the Midnight Librarywould be more creative.
Um, I think the midnightlibrary would be a place that I
would really want to go from themidnight library.
I forget who the author is.
My apologies, but we um readthat book for another book club
I think it was also pre-podcastyeah, a while ago, uh, but I
think it'd be so fun to like goevery day to like the library

(44:14):
over the summer and just likepull a book and see what you're
doing within that life, kind ofthing, and just like get to see,
like all the differentvariations of like what could
have been butterfly effect typeof thing that's such a good one
dwell on it too much, but likejust taking a summer to just do
like summer reading on your lifeyeah, fun.

Speaker 1 (44:31):
Yeah, no, that's so fun, it's so accurate, because
you just sent a group chat, atext, into our group chat, like
a couple weeks ago, about howkind of like you know, harping
on the fact that like there areso many things we want to do, we
can't do.
So it's funny.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
That's reflecting your answer yeah, it's true, I
did have a little existentialcrisis crash out um, we,
literally.

Speaker 1 (44:52):
I had one in this podcast earlier about how I
can't buy something from ChanelAgain.

Speaker 2 (44:56):
adulting is hard.

Speaker 1 (44:59):
No, but I think that'd be so cool, because I
always think too, it's like manin another life, like I could be
a snowboarder, like aninstructor.
You know, like a snowboardinginstructor I could be like a
lawyer.
I'd be a terrible lawyer, butlike I could do that.
You know, it's like what am Idoing?

Speaker 2 (45:12):
Like what are you, where am I?
Find the sea and likeinteresting, like all the
different, like past or like youknow, when you're little you
come up with a million differentthings you want to be when you
grow up.
So what would that look like?

Speaker 1 (45:21):
and I could be in love island, but no, I'm happily
married.

Speaker 2 (45:29):
No, big brother, big brother big brother.

Speaker 1 (45:31):
Are you watching this season?

Speaker 2 (45:32):
no, I haven't watched big brother.
I just know you're a bigbrother fan it's good.

Speaker 1 (45:35):
It's good season for anyone watching maybe I'll check
it out.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
27 you did get me on the love island train and it's
the like.

Speaker 1 (45:41):
So sometimes they they have like themes and like
the house has a theme.
So this year's theme is likehotel mystique, so kind of like
mysterious, like okay, youshould watch it.

Speaker 2 (45:51):
After this I'll check it out, okay, okay, um, what is
your chaotic TBR strategy now, heading into the second half of
the year?
We're a little past halfwaypoint because technically it's
July and we're in August, butyou know what I'm talking about.
Do you have a strategy, anyparticular way you want to
tackle it, or are you justvibing and like hoping for the
best, going into the rest ofthis year?

Speaker 1 (46:12):
Good question.
I also am adding into likereading goal, so I'm adding that
into this question.
So, in regards to like, likeour reading goal for the year,
um, because a lot of people makethem, especially if you're on
goodreads, I'm at 22 out of 34,which is way ahead of where I
thought I would be.
So I'm definitely not stressedwith meeting it.

(46:33):
I'm just gonna vibe out um andthen kind of the same with my
tbr.
I don't actually think I'llever finish it, so I don't think
I have like a strategy fortackling it.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
That's to be read for our listeners who might not
know the acronym for yes.

Speaker 1 (46:50):
But I don't necessarily have a strategy per
se.
I will caveat that with, like,I guess, a loose strategy that I
use, and it's not even likestrategy, more like routine is
like if I'm reading likefantasies or something heavy,
then I do like a romance'mreading like fantasies or
something heavy, then I do likea romance after, like you know,
book cleanse.
So I think that's kind of mysame.

(47:12):
Vibe is just working on thatroutine, but I have a lot of
books on my to be read and Ifeel like at the time of the
year it's just like an internal, like I can't even explain it,
but it's like I'm justprioritizing some like some are
more popular or some are like alot of people are talking about
right now, so maybe I want toread that one sooner.
Um, or some we're reading forthe podcast, so obviously that's

(47:32):
gonna go up, but a lot of timesit just goes on vibes it's like
, okay, I've read a lot aboutfairies.
Do I want to read somethingabout vampires?
Or right, oh, I haven't readany sports romances in a long
time.
Should I read something likethat?
Like what, what am I feeling?
Yeah, so those are my vibes.
What?

Speaker 2 (47:50):
about you um, so for my reading goal, I mean, I set a
really low one for myself thisyear, knowing, I was gonna be
reading a lot with the wedding.
I was thinking I said it forlike 18.
Um, I think I just reached six,so I'll check for you while you
talk.
I'm not doing too horrible, Ithink it's doable, I can do it.
But I'm really trying to focuson doing at least two a month,

(48:14):
so the one for our book club andthen one for myself and
whatever I'm vibing with.
Yeah, I typically my readingstrategy when it comes to like
what I'm reading next try to dolike a top five kind of vibe
where I have like a mix ofgenres because I do like to
change it up between books.
So I'll do like okay, maybe I'mbetween like these five books

(48:36):
after I read this one.
A lot of times I end up goingoff script because I get there
and I'm like nope, I don't feellike any of those, I'm going to
go with this one or I'll do likea completely new one or
whatever.

Speaker 1 (48:46):
That's the joy of it, it is.

Speaker 2 (48:48):
And yeah, we're such mood readers too.
You just you have to keep thatflexibility with it.
But I do try to kind of likekeep with it and it's my way of
trying to be more disciplinedwith my physical TBR like the
books I own versus like going tobuy a book.
So if tbr like the books I ownversus like that's totally
different going to buy a book,so if I can try to keep myself

(49:09):
in that realm so I can getthrough the books that I own
first, before, just continually, you're like crazy to me because
you have a lot of physicalbooks.

Speaker 1 (49:14):
I don't have any physical books that I haven't
read.
Well, no, that's a lie.
I have one physical book that Iown right now that I haven't
read.
Like I don't do that, like ifI'm buying a book, I'm buying it
to read it well, especially nowI think somebody's like kindle.
I can't believe we didn't talkabout that.
I have a kindle.
My incredible committee giftedit to me after one of our events
and I literally was about tocry, but we had people over it.

(49:36):
Just I was so surprised likethey didn't tell me they were
getting it for me.
Anyway, I digress, continue.
I'm sorry that's what we weretalking about, so like yeah, uh.

Speaker 2 (49:45):
So, but especially how?
Yeah, you don't even have thephysical, you have one on the
kindle.
But I'm also like, how do?

Speaker 1 (49:50):
I decide which one's physical, which one's not.
Yeah, it's thrown a wrench in alittle bit with like yeah, but
I think that is.
I was also, while you'retalking about that and you
calling us mood readers, I'mwondering.
So, like I've been definitelyreading like fantasy and like,
um, I've been reading the sparkuh series, but I've been so into

(50:11):
like romances right now and Iwonder if it's because you know,
we just had your wedding andlike Justin and I have been like
really cute together lately andit's like I wonder if that's
because my mood I've just beenlike, yeah, kind of like
romantic lately, if that's whyI've been liking that.
And I wonder if like like epicfantasy for you you were just
talking in our group chat aboutwanting to do other things like
I wonder if that's why we're inthe subconscious.

(50:31):
Yeah, oh, for what are wetelling us?
Also, you're 33 to your goalright now.

Speaker 2 (50:36):
Wow yeah, six and eighteen.
I'm doing okay.
I'm doing okay, we'll get thereI think it's doable.

Speaker 1 (50:41):
Oh my gosh, it's so doable uh, yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (50:45):
It's just you try not to limit yourself, I think is
the important part and you justdo what feels best for you.
But at the same time I do, likeyou said, I do have a lot of
physical books, because I amsuch a book dragon.
I love my hordes and havingthem around me and when I see
pretty covers like I can'tresist, I have to buy them.
But that it's the when you getin that mood and like it sounds
good for me now.
That's why I bought it.

(51:06):
But then when it comes time tolike actually read it, yeah I'm
like okay, well, I might not bein the mood for it anymore.
I want to read something elseor something's popular.
A new book came out that youwant to try, so I'm trying to be
better about it.
We're gonna get through thephysical tbr first but it is.
Unless it's something that Irecommend, then it trumps your
physical tbr and honestly, yes,uh, but it is hard to with the,

(51:27):
the kindle, because I do almost.
I don't prefer reading.
I don't want to say that that'snot true, because I do love the
physical book and I still thatwill always be my favorite.

Speaker 1 (51:36):
But when you get in a groove.

Speaker 2 (51:38):
It's so much easier on the kindle because it's
portable and you don't have toworry about the big book.
Um, it's easier to getcomfortable with because I have
my little cozy setup with myremotes and everything, uh, so
it's much easier reading on thekindle than it is the physical
books.
So then it's like, uh, okay, Ihave these physical books.
Should I try to find it on thekindle unlimited and read on the
kindle?
But then it's like, well, thatwas the point of buying the

(51:58):
physical book if I'm not gonnaread I've got a car on those yep
exactly, yeah, but I digress, yeah, we did it, we did it,
we're here.
I'm like wow, I'm looking forthe next question, Like nope, we
finished.
No, we haven't done a podcastin a while, also for you
listeners.

Speaker 1 (52:15):
Mikaela's going to edit this, so you don't even
know.
But in the middle of thispodcast her computer died and we
were like, did we just loseeverything, which, knock on wood
, that's never happened to usbefore and we didn't lose
everything again.

Speaker 2 (52:28):
All this knock on wood.
Hopefully editing goes well, but it saved everything from the
point that it closed off, so wedidn't have to go back and redo
anything knocking on wood aswe're talking but wow, I had a
heart attack so season twostarting off strong.

Speaker 1 (52:42):
We're happy to be back.
This is crazy.
Yeah, it's fine, we're fine,everything's fine.
We want to know what you guyshave been doing over the summer
and what we might have missedout on while we were busy doing
adult things and not fun bookthings we'll be posting like a
summer recap on insta, and soyou should definitely leave in

(53:04):
the comments.

Speaker 1 (53:17):
But to round us out, we're gonna do a quick little
borrows and returns, whichshould go quick because we
haven't been doing too much, sotake it away, michaela.

Speaker 2 (53:24):
Um, so my returns.
I did finish one book.
Right before we finished, westarted this podcast.

Speaker 1 (53:29):
Oh, I finally read house of flame and shadow by
sarah j mass michaela hasconquered the sjm universe.
I have, I have it's about time.

Speaker 2 (53:38):
I was like, just in time before the new ektar book
craze starts again, um, so I amofficially all caught up.
I did give it three stars.
It's not my favorite of hers, which hurts my heart to say.
I had some qualms about it.
It just felt overstimulating tome.
I think there was a lot goingon all at once that it wasn't
necessarily hard to keep up with, but it was just the constant

(54:01):
movement between things.
And now there's this and all ofa sudden you're getting this
information and you're just this.
And all of a sudden you'regetting this information and
you're just, like you know, juggling all these different
plot points and subplot pointsand, um stuff.
That just became a lot for me.
Um, I enjoyed the overarchingplot of it though.
I thought it was good andobviously it was well written.
It's sarah, but love my girlsarah, uh, but this one

(54:23):
specifically, just like itwasn't for me out of all of them
, but I will be curious to see.
I think she has announced thatshe's doing a fourth one yeah
and that one will be morepivoted towards a focused on a
different character, kind oflike a court of silver flames
type of vibe.
So I'll be curious to see whatthat one is like agreed, I'll
read anything she writes, butsame yeah yeah, and then for bor

(54:45):
, obviously, mistborn, our bookclub book for this month.
And then I am going to do alittle palette cleanser
beforehand, a little sillylittle romance of some sorts I
haven't decided on what yetEmily Henry, Maybe I was looking
before we started recording.
I might try her out, give it ashot.
So I'll probably do one ofthose, but I just haven't
decided on what yet.
And then Mistborn so what aboutyou?

Speaker 1 (55:06):
Love it?
Okay, burrows, heart of theEverflame by Penn Coles this is
a third in that Spark of theEverflame, which it's been
really good, but how many bookstotal?
Right now, only three, okay, and I think the fourth one comes
out like a year from now orsomething.
So I'm a little bummed.
Yeah, I did know going into itthat it wasn't finished, but I'm

(55:26):
gonna forget it all by the timeI'm gonna have to read it.
But it's fine, it's really good.
And then Returns, the OffLimits Rule by Sarah Adams.
Um, and I gave that a threestars.
So it's good, nothing crazy, but I'm so happy we're here,
we're back, baby, we did it.
Oh yeah, so hopefully we'll seeyou on Fable Read Mistborn with
us.
I have no idea what BrandonSanderson is like, his writing

(55:50):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
