Chris Grainger (00:03):
Welcome to the
Lion Within Us, a podcast
serving Christian men who arehungry to be the leaders gotta
tend you to be.
I'm your host, chris Stranger.
Let's jump in.
All right, fellas, fun Fridaytime.
I'm excited to have you here.
Let's dig into it.
We're gonna get right intoGod's Word.
Those that are gonna get usstarted.
We're in the book of 2Corinthians.
Okay, 2 Corinthians, chapter 4.
I'm only looking at one verse, though, verse 18.
(00:24):
It says so we fix our eyes noton what is seen, but on what is
unseen, since what is seen istemporary, but what is unseen is
eternal.
So I love that verse.
Right there, fellas, go back andcheck out our spiritual kickoff
.
It really took some time tounpack that, obviously to
simplify and apply it to ourlife, but to really show you how
(00:45):
we can chase so many things inthis world that are just that in
this world.
And remember, when we get toheaven, the only thing you'll
have are other people.
That's it.
That's the only thing you cantake there.
So I don't care how much you'recrushing it.
The amazing house you live in,the awesome car, you got all the
money you have to bank, itdoesn't matter.
(01:07):
All that stuff is gonna betemporary, should you do the
best you can right now here onearth, absolutely, but focusing
on the eternal?
Oh, man, that changeseverything, okay.
So hopefully you guys got achance to listen to that
spiritual kickoff.
And also, how about that guestman from Barry McGuire, from
McGuire Wax Company?
Amazing conversation, being inhis 80s to where he's rocking
(01:31):
and rolling, he's out theredoing the work that God's
calling him to do His fire, thisis absolute fire.
Been married for over 60 yearsActually, no, it's coming up on
a 60 year anniversary, if Iremember correctly and man, just
such a cool guy, such a coolguy.
I've interviewed just so manyhundreds of people over a couple
of podcasts that I've worked onfor years now, and I'm trying
(01:55):
to remember someone who's had asmuch joy as Barry.
I don't know if anybody checksthat box I'm sure there are a
couple guys that come close buthe smiled the entire time.
He was amped up the entire timewe fed, I prayed for him before
we got started recording Ialways do that with our guests
(02:15):
and we finished.
He was just talking, smiling.
Next thing, he was just prayinga prayer of abundance and
prosperity over me and thelioness and he's just.
That's just who he is.
You can't hide it, you can'tfake that there's.
You know it's just who he is.
It comes out into his actionsand everywhere.
So hopefully that's what youguys picked up on.
(02:36):
That's what I picked up on themost was just his genuineness.
It was real, it was authentic.
I didn't think they're not verymaguire.
So hopefully you guys enjoyedthat love and know what your
thoughts were on it.
Let me know for sure and andand again check out all the
resources and links on thatepisode through ways that you
can spread the gospel withothers.
(02:58):
So let's get into our fun Fridaytips.
I know you guys enjoy those onFriday.
So we got our health tip, or awell tip, and our self tip.
Quick reminder Health is mindand body, wealth is career and
finances.
Self is being better husbandsand dads.
So the health tip actually camefrom our community.
So a gentleman named Doug Millsyou guys have heard me talk
about Doug before.
He's a great guy in ourcommunity, very active.
(03:20):
He brought this up in one ofour meetings.
I cannot remember if it was aBible study or or a lion launch.
It was one of our meetingswhere Doug was a participant.
It could have been a mastermind, but he uses the acronym HALT,
h-a-l-t.
Okay, and it says never letyourself get hungry, angry,
lonely or tired.
(03:41):
One of those four things happen.
You're the Satan that's gonnaattack.
I just thought that was apretty good acronym to remember
Hungry, angry, lonely, tired.
Let's think about it.
You get hungry, you know.
I mean Snickers has made afortune off of you know you're
not yourself.
You're hungry, right?
So we totally get that.
I don't want you to get angry.
(04:01):
When you get angry, you're notfiring all the right cylinders,
I'm telling you, for when I getangry I can't.
I better not be engaging withmy kids or my wife, because I'm
probably saying something Ishouldn't say.
Or loneliness we live in anepidemic of loneliness.
I'm telling you guys, it'severywhere.
There's so many guys that areso disconnected, so lonely.
You know we have these cellphones now, these smartphones
(04:24):
that keep us more connected thanever in the world.
Yet we're more disconnected andSatan's gonna, he's gonna
attack when you're lonely.
And the last one, don't messthis one tired.
I know you guys are out there.
You're crushing it.
You're doing all these things, you try to bootstrap it.
You never stop.
You're working all these hours.
End of the day, you're gonnaget wore out, you're gonna get
(04:46):
tired, and when you get tired, you're gonna get attacked.
Satan, think about when youwatch National Geographic and
there's a picture of a bunch ofgazelle out of the field.
Well, who comes to lion?
Which one's gonna get attacked?
The strong one in the middle?
No, it's a little weak one.
The tired one wanna keep, can'tkeep up, right, that's the one
(05:07):
he's going after.
That's what Satan's gonna goafter too.
So remember that.
Thank you, doug, for this Halt.
Never let yourself get toohungry, angry, lonely, tired.
Satan's gonna attack.
All right now, wealth tip.
I want you guys to remembersomething Persistence pays off.
Okay, persistence pays off.
(05:29):
Building wealth takes time andyou have to be persistent.
Okay, you have to.
If you have big goals, thinkabout this.
You do not need to listenpeople with small vision.
Think about that.
You need to.
If you have big goals, don'tlisten to people with small
vision.
You need to care more aboutyour dreams than other people's
(05:50):
opinions.
Period, as long as your dreamsalign with God's will, that's
what matters.
That can be so hard in thisworld that we live in, okay,
cause we're trying to keep upwith the Joneses and we forget
that the Joneses are broke.
But if we align our decisionsbased on what God desires, right
, then if the rest of the worldsees that as weird, then fine,
(06:14):
just be weird and have a peacewith it.
But just remember it'spersistence.
It's not talking aboutreplaying the lottery or getting
rich quick.
No, it's about being persistent, being diligent and
understanding that you're gonnatake a financial standpoint with
your, with the finances thatGod blesses with you with, to be
(06:35):
that steward that he has calledyou to be.
And that may be real estate.
For some of you guys that maybe mutual funds.
For some of you guys that maybe just looking at 401k or just
being a better budgeter, whereever cause, everybody's in
different places.
So far as their wealth buildingjourney, okay, a lot of guys
who are on the back, on the oneend of the spectrum, they're in
(06:57):
that wealth accumulation mode, right when they're just building
up that wealth up so that theycan ultimately have that
retirement wherever that lookslike in the future.
Oh, it's a lot of people thatI've talked with are in that
debt reduction because theworld's told them wrong for so
long.
Actually, you know, they'reswimming in debt.
They're trying to figure outhow to get out of that.
So, wherever you are on thatpendulum, just know, just be the
(07:18):
best steward.
And you have to remember thatpersistence pays off, okay.
So just don't think that it's aone and done type deal.
Usually it doesn't work thatway.
But the guy who's out thereconsistently and persistently
doing the right things andexercising good stewardship, at
that moment, at that moment whenyou start doing those things,
(07:41):
you can expect hey, you'reshowing good stewardship, good
financial decisions and fromthere you can build a wealth.
Okay, all right now.
Self-tip.
This came from our community aswell, a gentleman named Lucas
Jordan.
I love Lucas to death.
He's a big time advocate of us,listens to the show all the
time.
He's engaged with ourmastermind.
(08:02):
He's engaged with our Biblestudy a couple of nights.
Lucas comes to so many events.
He comes to our daily spiritualkickoff a lot.
He's just out there, he's onfire.
He's doing some great things.
He has a powerful testimony andhe brought this one up in a
meeting we had.
He says you need to connectbefore you correct.
I just thought that wasbeautiful Connect before you
(08:24):
correct.
So quick.
So often, as guys we correct,we go straight to correction
mode.
Right, we see what's goingwrong and we check Boom, why do
you have to do that?
Do it this way, or when youstop, or things like that.
I do it too.
Look, I'm talking to myself alot right here, okay.
But instead, if we can connectwith others first, from there we
(08:51):
can help them, show them thecorrect path.
But you have to connect first.
So, yes, I'm nearly thinkingabout being a better husband and
a better dad when I heard thisone.
This is also a great tip to usewhen you're evangelizing, when
you're trying to share yourfaith with others, the way Barry
was talking about a great wayis to just connect first.
(09:14):
Just connect with them, askquestions, seek first to
understand, then you can seek tobe understood.
So, just making sure thatyou're doing this out of true
care for others, humility, thatyou're not just trying to be
self-righteous, that you'reactually care about the
individual right and you can'tfake that.
(09:37):
You can't fake empathy, becausepeople smell it.
So connect, then you can moveto correction.
So I just hopefully that tipserves you.
What guys will, particularlyfor you?
Married guys out there, or whatones that have little kids?
You gotta remember thatconnection part, don't forget
that.
Okay, so you have three tipshalt, don't let yourself get
(09:59):
hangry.
Hangry, that's funny.
Hungry, angry, lonely, tired,right?
Or maybe you can just combineHNA and just be hangry.
We know that's a slang word.
Then the well tip remember thatpersistence pays off, fellas.
It's all about being persistentand your self-tip connect
before you correct the book ofthe week this week we talked
(10:19):
about on Wednesday right here, fellas, ignite your life.
This is what Barry sent me, acopy of it.
It's not a bad read.
It's not a long read, let's see.
It's about 160 something pages, but there are a lot of
scripture references in here.
There's even some QR codes inhere that can take you directly
to the website and things likethat that he was talking about.
So if you wanna check out theshow notes right here for this
(10:42):
episode, we'll have links therefor you guys to get hooked up
with that copy of Ignite yourLife.
Okay, defeat fear witheffortless faith.
So that's a tongue twister andof itself.
All right, fellas, let's getinto our dad jokes.
I know you a lot of you guysenjoy these, so we have two dad
jokes today.
One of them actually wassubmitted by someone who was a
(11:04):
listener of the show, and I'mgonna give them a shout out here
.
But our very first one isdescribe failure in two words I
can't.
So thank you, good fellow.
So that's dad joke number two, number one.
Number two says to measure thequality of puns you must use a
seismograph.
So that was submitted by JohnFelt.
(11:25):
Thank you, john, for that oneman Really appreciate your
submission.
I was able to connect with Johna while back, have a great
conversation with him, lookingforward to him joining the
community.
So thank you, john, for gettingus that dad joke.
Number one describe failure intwo words I can't.
And number two to measure thequality of puns you must use a
seismograph.
(11:47):
So there you go, remember tosigh.
Remember eye rolls count, so dosighs, guys.
I'm telling you it just itworks Okay.
So thank you, john again.
Let us know which one of youliked best.
Number one, number two and thequestion going into the weekend,
fellas, to think about we cantalk about it all week what
holds eternal significanceversus mere passing moments?
Just think about that Answer.
(12:07):
That question means a lot.
So it's not just about whathappened in today.
Your circumstances change.
I do pray happy for you guys.

the time.
