Chris Grainger (00:03):
Welcome to the
Lion Within Us, a podcast
serving Christian men who arehungry to be the leaders God
intends you to be.
I'm your host, chris Granger.
Let's jump in.
All right, guys, it is funFriday time.
I'm excited to be here with youtoday, so let's get right into
it.
Okay, so we're going to look atour scripture to get started,
because that's the way we wantto start.
Every episode of the Lion WithinUs is in God's Word.
So we're in the book of 2Corinthians this week.
(00:24):
Chapter 4, verse 4, says theGod of this age, that little G,
god has blinded the minds ofunbelievers so that they cannot
see the light of the gospel thatdisplays the glory of Christ,
who is the image of God.
Guys, I spent a lot of time onthat verse, unpacking the
(00:45):
meaning behind it.
I'm unpacking why we need tounderstand the darkness that is
out there attacking us each andevery day, and what you can do
as a believer to walk in thelight.
I'm telling you, it's a bigdifference when you're walking
in darkness versus light.
We stomp our toe in thedarkness.
Once we get it in the light, wecan see clearly, we can walk
(01:06):
clearly and we are no longerblind.
And speaking of blind AlRobertson, how about my buddy Al
, coming back on the Lion Within, is talking about the movie the
Blind Guys.
It's coming up very quickly, ifyou may.
If you listen to this episodelate, it may already even be out
.
Go get watch the Blind.
Take a friend with you, particularly if you have an
(01:26):
outdoor friend who likes tooutdoors and hunting, fishing,
things like that they're goingto love this movie.
Guys.
There's some some things outthere on that.
This is a faith filled film, guys.
That is really pointing peopleto the goodness of the gospel.
It does a phenomenal job.
So Al unpacked what that meantfor his family to put a film
like this together, how theyactually pulled it off.
He gave us behind the scenes of, you know, the sausage being
(01:49):
made and Phil's reaction andthis case reaction around seeing
the film for the first time, aswell as how it impacted Al
directly, you know, as theoldest son.
No, he lived this, guys.
He lived this himself in themoment out there with the on a
college campus being raised byteenagers and just it really
(02:14):
spoke.
When I was talking with Al too,I just could feel it here in
his voice what this meant forhim to have to watch some of
those scenes and to replay someof that particular scene where
he goes back to the church andthe church takes them in.
So, guys, go, take, take anopportunity to check this out
for sure.
If you're not, if also ifyou're not listening to the
understained podcast yet, whereare you waiting on?
(02:34):
They do a phenomenal job ofunpacking scripture each and
every week.
Those guys are amazing.
I can promise you, afterspending, you know, the weekend
with them there in Louisiana andget to see how, how Phil and
Miss, kay and Jayce and Cy andall those guys how they roll.
They are as, absolutely asgenuine and sincere as they as
you can get.
They are just a salt to theearth.
(02:55):
Guys so hopefully enjoyed thatconversation with Al.
I know I did.
I love hanging out with him, texting.
Anytime I get a text from Alit's always a good day.
I just to hear from him, tohear how the family is doing.
So hope guys go back to listento that conversation and go to
the movie theater very soon andgo and check out the blind.
Oh yeah, if you, if the movietheaters don't have it, reach
(03:18):
out to the blind moviecom andthey actually have opportunities
where they're trying to getinto church, to to churches as
well.
So it could be an opportunityfor you to bring this movie into
your church, okay, so that'sjust another way to to take
action and be a lion out there, okay, all right, now let's get
into our tips for the week.
This week, fellas, we got ourhealth tip, well tip and self
tip again.
Health is being taken care ofour minds, our bodies.
(03:40):
Health is taking care ofcareers and finances, and self
is being better husbands, betterdads, and we need a whole lot
more of that out there.
Now I'm a health tip.
I want you to practice forgivingand letting go.
So let's think about that for asecond.
If you hold on to grudges andyou harbor resentment, that's
(04:00):
just going to impact you.
You know, bitterness doesn'thurt anybody except yourself.
In Ephesians it tells us getrid of all bitterness, rage,
anger, brawling, slander, alongwith every form of malice.
Then it says in 32, be kind andcompassionate to one another,
forgiving each other, just as inChrist, god forgave you.
(04:20):
So I'm telling you that is averse for me and my daughters,
our older daughters.
We practice this one a lot,ephesians 432,.
We talk about forgiveness, beingkind and compassionate to one
another, forgiving each other, just as Christ, god, forgave you
.
It's not always talking aboutnice or things like that, but
being kind.
There's a difference there.
So I think you guys need tojust consider the power of
(04:42):
forgiveness, both for yourselfand for others, and you can free
so much of your mind up guysand negative emotions and all
these things that are tearingyou down, and have more peace if
you just will embrace the ideaof Forgiveness.
So this may be something.
Maybe need to start small, okay, but I would also encourage you
(05:02):
this make sure you forgiveyourself, as guys were too hard
on ourselves too often.
So make sure that you canforgive yourself first and then
start letting go.
So forgive some others aroundyou.
If you find yourself beinghysterical or historian anytime
a fight comes up, that'sprobably a telling sign that you
need to embrace forgiveness.
(05:23):
Okay, all right, now you welltip I want you to be solution
focused when looking at yourfinances and I found these,
these tips again from from CandyValentino, her book wealth
habits great book.
She talks about six areas toconsider.
I really thought they werereally good.
The first one is defined Ifclearly defined, your desired
outcome.
Okay, what does that look like?
(05:45):
You have to be super clear whenyou're starting to define where
you're trying to go.
Not, I just want the main air.
No, hey, and three months Ineed to move from here to there,
and here's how I'm gonna dothat.
I'm gonna cut expenses, theseareas, okay now, second part
focus on solutions.
Don't focus on the problems.
Focus on the areas that you'regonna make an impact, the
(06:08):
solutions.
Then the third area is do youlook for strengths?
You want to look for strengthsfrom your financial standpoint
versus the weaknesses.
What are some areas that you doa really good job at in
budgeting?
Maybe lean into that more andtry to apply that in different
areas.
Now the fourth area is refinedNarrow the focus and home in on
(06:28):
what is going well instead ofwhat's going wrong.
So get real super clear.
I mean you have to be extremelyclear and intentional when it
comes to goals, particularlyaround finances.
Don't just have this, thismystical thing, floating out
there.
No, get super defined on whatthat looks like.
Then the fifth is decide.
You have to actually make aMake, a make a decision right,
(06:51):
and even what.
When you do that, the sixthstep is you got to take some
action.
So once you take, make adecision, take action.
Now these are solution basedgoals around your finances, but
these can be tied to many thingsin life, guys.
So define what it, where it isyou're chasing, focus, get clear
on what the solutions are.
A view look for those strengths.
(07:11):
Refine, get very clear, superprecise on where you're going.
Make your decision, take action.
So there you go.
There's six tip guys rightthere.
Within that, one will tip nowfor your cell tip those.
I want you to think about thisfor a second.
It's time we start prioritizingfamily meal time.
This is something else.
All firsthand, when I went andgot to hang out with Al and
(07:32):
their family the families thateat together grow together right
for for being able to sit atthat dinner table with Fill them
this K and just have lunchthere, and this should be able
just to see how food brings themtogether.
We have breakfast with them aswell, but then for me and my
family, this is an importantdeal.
You know we always have dinnertogether Every day is not
(07:54):
something we have to plan.
We're not planning familydinner night, no, we just do.
There's no devices, there's noTV.
We, we're together.
I have to check myself on thisthe girls take, check me pretty
hard on this too.
One device comes to the tablebecause usually the one the
worst culprit is me.
But family dinner time, guys, isa wonderful opportunity to have
conversation and to really justlearn about your day.
(08:17):
Make up some fun, take gamesyou can play at the dinner table
.
You know Something good tohappen for today, something bad
to happen, something that wishyou could do over just simple
things like that.
Just to have conversation, justto talk about more than just
the weather.
Right, dig into the details, bevulnerable, be open, tell them
about the bad meaning you hadand why it was so bad.
(08:38):
Or tell them how you rocked ittoday and some how God Moving a
great way.
But look at that time, familydinner time as sacred Time goes
by so fast, guys.
I think back through me when Iwas growing up and the family
dinner time and how me at thattable and I had my foot on.
We have these chairs that werekind of up like bar stools a
(08:59):
little bit and I would put myfoot on my mom's chair and it
would just bounce back and forth.
I have so many great memoriesof her just swatting my foot off
the chair and now looking at mylittle judo right now, he's got
his little right leg going allthe time.
He kicks his leg all the time,so I think we got a foot rocker.
But those types of memoriesjust automatically make me smile
(09:20):
, they just do.
So.
I'm telling you family dinnertimes, a big deal, guys.
Don't miss this one.
Don't miss it.
This is a softball for you toknock out the part if you lean
in and embrace it.
All right.
So there are your three tips, guys.
Your health tip practiceforgiveness and letting go,
seriously lean into that.
Your wealth tip be solutionfocused.
Again, define focus, view, refine, decide, take action.
(09:43):
And your wealth tip be solutionfocused.
The self tip sorry, prioritizefamily meal time.
That's what it's all about that.
A book of the week this week, guys.
I wanna pull this one up righthere.
It's called the Duck CommanderFaith and Family Bible.
This is one.
Phil and Al put this together.
He gave me a copy of this backwhen he actually came to our
(10:04):
church back last year and just agreat Bible.
It's got a lot of really goodlittle inside stories and things
like that that they wrote.
So it's got some of their owncommentary within the Bible
itself.
Again, if you don't have aBible, this is a great one to
add, so I highly recommend it.
The way they put this together,it's just beautifully done.
So I want to definitely justmake sure you guys are where
(10:26):
they do have a Bible out there.
I think there's a couple ofdifferent versions you can get.
I had the new King Jamesversion this the one he has.
I think they have it in the NIVas well.
But you can go, guys, go checkthat out.
We'll have a link in the shownotes for you to check this one
out if you're interested inadding that to your library.
All right, now for our dad jokesthis week.
Okay, let's get to them.
(10:47):
Dad joke number one whichIndian city do people always
leave their mother?
Mumbai.
I mean, it's easy, come on,guys, you should know that.
Number two I'm at the airportand there's a woman passed out
on the baggage carousel.
She's slowly coming around.
So, fellas, number one whichIndian city do people always
(11:08):
leave their mother?
Mumbai, number two I'm at theairport and there's a woman
passed out on the baggagecarousel.

blinding you from experiencinghis grace?
There are so many ways that theevil ones attacking guys.
I know he's attacking you guysbecause he's attacking me and I
know, if you're trying to do hiswork, you are going to come
(11:51):
under attack.
I just finished doing a Biblestudy or a Sunday school lesson,
rather talking about theattacks of the evil one, and it
talked about if you're notfacing persecution, are you
walking with Christ?
And it's so true guys, you'regonna face persecution if you
stand firm with the gospel andyou walk this stuff out.
If you haven't faced anypersecution, are you really
(12:11):
walking it out?
Okay?
So I want you to think aboutthis if there's an area of your
life that is blinding you fromexperiencing God's grace, you
need to expose it.
Just get it out there.
Free yourself from the chainsthat are holding you back.
Get that stuff out there andjust enjoy the freedom that
