Chris Grainger (00:03):
Welcome to the
Lion with Dennis.
A podcast sermon.
Christian men, who are hundredto be the leaders, got to attend
.
You to be.
I'm your host, chris Granger, let's jump in.
All right, guys, fun Fridaytime.
All right, before we go, I'mpretty excited this morning.
So we're going to lead into ourword, to God's word.
This morning We'll be in thebook of Esther, chapter four.
Let's look at one verse though,verse 16.
That is our verse a week.
(00:24):
It says Go, gather together allthe Jews who are in Sousa and
fast for me.
Do not eat or drink for threedays, night or day, and I and my
attendance will fast as you do.
When this is done, I will go tothe king, even though is
against the law, and if I perish, I perish.
So, guys, whoa, what a powerfulverse.
(00:45):
I've spent a lot of timeunpacking that.
So this week we've been talkinga lot about mentorship.
So we looked at the OldTestament, the book of Esther,
and we look at the relationshipbetween Mordecai and Esther.
So if you've never studied that, highly, highly encourage you
to go back.
So only 10 chapters.
Like I said, it's about threeor four pages in my Bible.
It doesn't take you long toread it and it is action packed,
(01:07):
I'm telling you.
If you haven't read it yet, gotto get to the end.
Here's a little tip whathappens to the bad guy is pretty
awesome, so go check that.
If that does nothing more toget you guys, we're a mission
accomplished for this fun Friday.
But go check out what happensto Haman.
Send us some messages back, support it at the lion with the
endus.
If you want to connect with us,I'd love to know what your
thoughts are on what happened toHaman.
(01:28):
Did you like the turnout?
But seriously, we spent a lot oftime talking about mentorship
and what does that look like?
Because, esther and Mordecai, there are some straight up drama
happening, fellas, betweenthese two.
Mordecai is laying it out forher of the realities that are in
place if she does not takeaction.
(01:50):
And this is not easy for him tosay.
He loved her.
Obviously he loved her.
This was his cousin, he was herofficial guardian, so there was
no doubt that he loved her, buthe needed her to know the
realities that existed if shedid not take action.
So we see that mentorshiprelationship between the two,
(02:11):
mentor and mentee, and therewere just so much areas for
growth for us throughout that.
So I really want you to thinkthrough that, guys, as you go
through your weekend, thisweekend, whatever you listen to
this, go read the book Vesterand then think through how you
can start applying some of theseprinciples into your
relationships with others today.
(02:31):
They were cousins, so sometimesmaybe you need to think outside
of the box too.
It's not always going to befamily.
As I mentioned a couple oftimes, my mentee is not direct
from blood.
I see someone outside of myfamily, but why?
I still cherish thatrelationship.
But right here we can seedirectly in God's word how their
(02:54):
relationship was formed, firstof all on love and on truth.
But Mordecai was not afraid tospeak directly to Esther and she
listened, and she listenedbecause they had that type of
relationship together.
So I'm just I pray that youenjoyed that one for one, but,
more importantly, not just in it.
It's not an entertainment thingthat you grew with and it had
(03:17):
you thinking about the people, maybe the young men in your life
, if the guys are listening, that you're mentoring, or maybe
if the ladies are listening toyoung women in your life that
you want to mentor, and how youcan apply some of these
principles that you see in God'sword, to those relationships.
Because if all we do is justconsume this stuff, consume this
stuff, consume this stuff, andwe never apply it, what are we
(03:40):
doing?
My favorite pastor, joby Martin, talked about the other day and
I was listening to, about, hey, what will we do if we got a note
?
You got home and there's a notethat says take out the trash,
and you went and you studied thetrash industry and how the
trash industry works and howmany, what the miles per gallons
(04:01):
for the trash trucks and howthe landfills work and recycling
industry and all thesedifferent processes and pieces
of it.
You had a good understanding ofeverything involved trash, but
you never took the trash out.
What is that about?
That's what happens, fellas, when we study God's Word, when
(04:24):
we get into it and we, oh man, look at this, this is this in
the Greek and this in the Hebrew.
Oh, look at this, look how thisconnects here and this connects
there, and we leave it in thejust, we leave it in our head.
We are called to be doers.
It says in James be that doerof the Word.
So get out, take these lessonsthat you learned from Esther and
(04:46):
apply it in your walk and I'mtelling you if you actually take
that.
So maybe you need to starttaking some trash out fellas,
start taking it out and walk itand see how the Holy Spirit
moves.
All right, now, guys, let's getinto our tips this week.
I'm excited for these.
So we've got a health tip, awealth tip and a self tip.
As a reminder, health tip ofthe week this is this is going
to be for your mind and strongminds and bodies.
(05:08):
Health tips focuses on careerand finances.
Self tips more about being abetter husband and better dad's.
Okay, so your health tip.
I try to make some of these allsomewhat tied to mentorship.
I want you to you know, guys, how big I am.
I'm working out.
I think you need to take careof your temple that God's given
you, and here's my challenge toyou I want you to work out what
(05:30):
your mentor or your mentee, okay, cause this is a great way to
connect with others, especiallyfor us, for us guys out there.
So for me and Trevor, a lot oftimes maybe it's swimming or
playing baseball or shoot hoops.
We're going to do somethingactive, right, we'll use them
when we're together.
We're going to do, we're notjust going to sit around and
(05:50):
watch TV and eat Cheetos.
That's what it's about.
We're going to be gettingtogether, we'll be doing
something.
So maybe that's going for a run, maybe that's lifting weights
or going for a hike.
But get active, do something.
That that involves some, somephysical exertion because it's
going to give you a chance justto really get down and have a
(06:11):
deeper level connection, versusif you just trying to keep
everything you know, if all youdo is your, all you ever do is
meet at a coffee shop orsomething like that.
There's nothing wrong with thatfrom time to time, but never
now.
Then you get to get outside andyou know me and my some of my
buddies, you know part of mydiscipleship group.
Some of them are just friends.
We got to where we were hikinga lot on Fridays and I
(06:32):
absolutely love it.
Now I nothing takes away frommy discipleship time on Saturday
mornings, but I get to gettogether with a lot of those
brothers and read God's Word andstudy and things like that.
But there's something specialthat happens when we get out and
make sure we're sweating, we'rehuffing, we're tired and we're
connecting man, we're justconnecting.
So look, there's your healthtip.
(06:53):
Take that time.
Be intentional about workingout with your mentor or your
mentee.
Okay, now here's your wealthtip.
I want to tie this again into amentorship.
So mentoring sometimes cost youmoney, ta-da.
So here's what we got to do.
We got a budget for it.
Now, this could be a veryeasily misaligned in your budget
(07:14):
.
So just don't ignore this.
Understand it.
I'm going to be a mentor to twoothers.
It's going to cost me something.
Maybe it's going to cost you anamount of fuel to drive to
wherever they're at, but usuallywhen I want to be in my mentor
mentee, get together.
You know there's a mealinvolved.
I'm going to do something.
Sometimes we go do experiences.
(07:35):
I've taken them to ball gamesand things like that before.
So just budget for it.
Put it in your budget.
That way, when you have thattime, you're not having to think
about the funding.
You can actually be proactivein that.
So I'll really encourage you, hey, and it also will help you
be more intentional aboutactually scheduling the events,
right, be intentional about that.
(07:56):
Hey, I've budgeted this muchmoney for this month.
Hey, let's go do this.
All right, I'm going to make ithappen by putting it on the
calendar, but don't forget tobudget for it.
Okay, don't want to startstressing it out, because you
actually you know you spent ahundred bucks this month.
Like, where did that go?
Well, that's right, I spent mytime with my mentee.
Well, if you budget for it,it's not a big deal, okay.
(08:17):
Now your self-tip.
Okay, this is kind of talkingabout again being a mentor to
better husbands, better dads, but also just in general, you
need to be a Barnabas and youneed to be a Temmum.
Okay, so Barnabas, think aboutthis.
Barnabas, he poured into Paul.
(08:37):
He really did so.
Maybe that's you and your childYou're pouring into them, right
?
Barnabas, the son ofencouragement.
He was constantly pouring intoPaul.
That was how that relationshipwas set up.
And then Paul, he was pouringinto Timothy.
He was constantly feedingTimothy, helping him grow in his
walk of Christ.
And you know what?
(08:57):
There's opportunities for allthis stuff, guys, where that
Barnabas opportunity?
Maybe you're that Barnabas andyou're pouring into Paul.
Or maybe there's someone inyour life, in your family, who
is a spiritual leader.
They're pouring into you.
Maybe you're Paul in thatsituation.
Or maybe the Timothy, which iseasier for us to connect with
(09:18):
this man, particularly hisfather's out there, the Timothy
could be our relationships withour children right.
We're constantly helping themgrow.
We're trying to help them growin their faith.
We're trying to help them growin their walk.
I even put a blog together,guys.
I'll try to link it up in theshow notes here for this one
about finding your Paul, findingyour Barnabas, finding Timothy,
and how each one of thoserelationships are so important
(09:38):
in our walk.
So I want you to think throughthat, guys, as you move forward.
Throughout this weekend, Ialways spent a lot of time
talking on mentorship from abiblical standpoint.
Yeah, barnabas was alwaysdefending Paul, was helping Paul
grow, he was there for Paul.
And then Paul was alwayshelping Timothy grow and caring
for me, loving for me andshowing him the way and giving
(09:59):
him advice, and we need to learnfrom both of those.
Okay, so just be a Barnabas andbe a Timothy.
That's the main thing.
Be a mentor and be a mentee, because if you're not being
mentored by someone, guys, you're missing an opportunity to
grow.
So look for those opportunities, lean into them and use them.
Okay, so there's your health,wealth and self-tips.
(10:21):
Your health tip again, work outwith your mentor, your mentee,
your wealth tip.
I want you to mentor.
Understand that mentoring cancost you money, so you need to
start budgeting for it and yourself-tip.
You need to be a Barnabas andyou need to be a Timothy.
Look for those opportunities.
Now the book of the week thisweek, fellas, we're going to
look at this one book.
This is actually a type of amovie.
My wife introduced me to thismovie One Night with the King
(10:45):
Wonderful movie.
The book is called Hadesa OneNight with the King, so we'll
have a link in the show notesfor that.
But that really unpacks thewhole story of Esther Mordecai
Love.
The movie, by the way, highlyencouraged.
It's a little bit, it drags alittle bit, but it is a good
movie.
It's clean.
You can watch it with yourfamily.
Highly encouraged.
That's a great way.
(11:05):
When I watched it I had myBible open.
My wife oh yeah, this person'shere.
Oh yeah, we'd find it.
It was a fun back and forth inour Bible.
I always read that together aswe watched that together rather.
But this is a great book.
If you're more of a reader, hadesa One Night with the King,
great one to check out.
Guys.
And again, the movie highlyencouraged.
(11:25):
That for sure, particularly ifyou want to just, you know,
spend some more time in Estherand get another perspective.
Alright, now our dad jokes ofthe week this week.
Some dad jokes.
Number one While driving towork, robbers jumped in my car
and stole everything.
They were pirates of the car Ibe in.
That's number one.
(11:47):
Number two I know the bigapples is New York, but does any
anyone know where theMinneapolis you go, fellas.
Not one of my driving to workwhere I was jumped in my car or
stole everything.
They were pirates of the car Ibe in.
And number two I know the bigApple is New York, but does
anyone know where theMinneapolis?
(12:08):
So there you go, fellas.
Number one.
Or number two you remember, remember I rolls, totally count,
totally count.
So I got our rolls on both ofthose from my wife's.
I know they're good anyway.

I want you to think about that.
