Guest: IBM Foundation's JENNIFER CROZIER. They’re called “New Collar” jobs, and there are millions available – 16 million in the US by 2024. As industries from manufacturing to health and agriculture are reshaped by computer science, good jobs are being created that demand new skills and require postsecondary degrees, but not necessarily from a four-year college.
To help meet the needs of students and employers, a compelling public education model has picked up momentum. Designed to train high schoolers to directly enter the workforce, P-TECHs blend a four-year high school curriculum with a free, two-year, tech- oriented associate’s degree. Each school is affiliated with multiple local or national companies, who provide mentorships, paid internships and job interviews.
Jennifer Ryan Crozier leads IBM Corporate Citizenship – overseeing the company’s contributions of technology and talent to help governments, nonprofits and communities to tackle some of the world’s most difficult societal challenges. Under Ms. Crozier’s leadership, IBM is combining talent and technology to address global health disparities, reinvent education to prepare young people for 21st century jobs, and blaze new trails in citizen diplomacy.
