(00:00):
Well, I don't know. I think we'll still, I still
think we're going to land under under 90.
We'll. We're going to hit the You're
funny. We're hit a SpongeBob time card.
A few moments later. Shrinking Jackie.
Shrinking Jackie. Hello and welcome to the
(00:39):
nerdiest podcast, the show wherenerds talk about nerdy things.
I'm your host with the most who's always sleep deprived, Mr.
Nick Barrett. And as always, I'm joined by my
Co host, my ride or die, Mr. Jackson Glass.
And today we are going to be talking about a couple things.
We're going to be talking about the Nintendo Switch too, because
we just had that big direct recently and we're going to be
diving into our thoughts on a Minecraft movie.
(01:01):
Not the Minecraft movie, a Minecraft movie.
Jackson and I both seen it and we have a lot of thoughts.
We. Have some thoughts but.
Before that, as always, what have we been up to?
What have we been doing? I've been gone.
I'm sure you guys are excited tohear about that.
Before we talk about what I've been up to.
Jackson, how have you been? Oh my gosh, thank you so much.
(01:22):
Well, first of all, welcome back.
Thank you. I'm so glad that you got to come
back. If you were here last week or
two weeks ago, you listen to me and Logan talk about.
We kept it very casual, kept it very just like movie and shows
and what we were doing. So thank you to Logan for
filling in while Nick was out ofcountry.
So honestly, I have not been doing a lot, genuinely.
(01:47):
I can tell you that I am just inschool.
I mean, Easter season and I'm wedding planning a lot.
The the wedding planning is coming together guys, we are so
close is less than a month away.I'm probably going to it's going
to be my turn to disappear for alittle bit from the show.
(02:08):
So you'll get you'll get us. Nick has a special treat planned
for you guys while I'm gone, so don't you worry.
But yeah, I'm going to. I'm going to be gone for a few
weeks just to do the wedding andhoneymoon and apartment set up.
And so soon you're going to see no more dorms set up.
You're going to see my brand newhome that I have to pay for.
And it's going to be really beautiful.
(02:29):
It's going to be really great. So what he's saying is just go
to thenerdiestpodcast.com buy some merch so he can afford
this. Yes, if you're if you're not
following us on Instagram with the nerdiest podcast or on
YouTube with the nerdiest podcast where we did cross 1000
subscribers. So thank you guys so much.
Keep watching watching episodes on there to see video versions
of our beautiful faces or on Twitter at nerdiest podcast or
(02:50):
the nerdiestpodcast.com where you can buy merch.
That is the best way to support us so that I can afford a new
setup. The biggest question of this new
setup is where are all the Legosgoing to go?
And honestly, I don't know because I have about four or
five sets that I just have not like built yet.
So I'm hoping the dream, this isthe dream is like floor to
(03:13):
ceiling shelving just like on one, like the whole like back
wall is just like Lego, Lego, Lego Lego Lego.
You know, it's also interesting talking to people that grew up
with Legos and people that didn't.
The people that grew up with Legos never ask the question,
Where's the room? They just buy the Legos.
(03:33):
There's never a question. You know that it's.
Somewhere you know that it's somewhere you will find the
room. That's the answer.
So like I'm like, oh, I want I'mgoing to buy this Lego set or
I'm going to ask for this Lego set for Christmas or my birthday
or on our registry. And she's like, where's it gonna
go? Cuz she didn't grow up with
(03:53):
Legos. And so I'm like, I don't know.
That's. Not my problem.
It's gonna go somewhere, you know it'll be fine.
So guys, update to follow updateto follow.
The main thing I've been watching slash doing is a
Minecraft movie and working on my review of the Minecraft movie
which I do have a full review out on YouTube at the glass
(04:14):
studios. Link is in the description you
can watch it there. But after this episode, of
course, other than that Severance ended and I'm kind of
feening so I just I don't know what to do with myself.
But I have been watching this brand new Apple TV original
called The Studio with Seth Rogen.
And it's very like film making heavy.
(04:34):
So it's a very good show. It the language is pretty bad.
So if that's kind of thing isn'tyour thing, it's like a Seth
Rogen comedy, then I don't thinkit'd be for you.
But I think it's really funny. I'm watching it weekly.
Might do a video about it, see if I can pull something out of
it. But honestly, that's about it.
I've just been kind of working on school, working on wedding,
watching TV, watching movies, and, you know, life is good.
(04:59):
I'm happy with my life. But Mr. Nick, I kind of missed
you. I wasn't I we weren't really.
We didn't really get to talk forthe last few weeks.
So yeah, I'm going to toss it off to you.
What have you been doing? I've.
Been kind of busy one a little behind the curtain here.
You're recording your own video,right?
Yes, I am recording my own video.
Just want to make sure before weget like an hour and you're
(05:22):
like, Oh no, I didn't record my video.
Do you just see Jackson? Yes I do have it.
Also note if you're watching thevideo, when me and Logan did our
episode I broke my cable and it just literally snapped off and
it's been begging to be put out of its misery for months.
But it finally bit the dust and so I am on my Mac computer.
I'm going to try to get a new cable.
(05:44):
Sorry guys, you really only needit's been a whirlwind through.
One episode and then you have like.
It's been a whirlwind. It's been a whirlwind.
So anyway, Mr. Nick, how are you?
I am recording my own video. Good, good, good.
I'm glad. OK, so it's been a while since
the last episode. We recorded that episode and I
(06:07):
wasn't feeling too great. Like the next day I felt like
I'd started to get sick and I was like, Oh no, it's fine.
So I started like pumping all mysupplements and stuff and like I
was like, OK, I'll be fine. And then I kind of went about
the week as normal, right? Monday was normal.
Right, of course. Started to feel a little like
achy but I was like I'll be fine.
(06:28):
Tuesday however not good. I go into work Tuesday, we get
through the production we had todo and I was like hey I need to
go home because I don't feel good.
Like my whole body hurts. It's physical pain and torture
and like I want to die. So I came home and I slept for
(06:49):
hours and I like, I got sick. I don't know what it was.
I don't know if it was like somevirus or bug or something that
was going around. Like it definitely wasn't like
COVID or anything, right? Right.
But I was a little worried because my mom and I had planned
a trip to go to Canada the following week, which Jackson
(07:09):
talked about and I'll talk abouthere in a second.
Yeah. So I was a little worried we
were going to have to cancel ourtrip, which we'd both really
been looking forward to. And I was like, well, they're
not going to let me over the border if I'm sick, which is not
true, right? These.
Sick Americans can never come over the border.
(07:31):
So I'm like going to bring your.American diseases over here,
yeah. The American diseases for the
Canadian healthcare system. Those two things are not meant
to go together, man. They could not handle obesity
like us. Come on, guys, we're number one.
We're number one. We're inventing.
Type 3 diabetes maybe? USA.
(07:52):
So eventually throughout the week, like I started getting
better. I took a sick day from work, did
a work from home day and then was back in the office and
started getting better. But I had this really nasty
cough and I had started to feel a little better by the weekend,
but I was still like coughing a lot, which is why I wasn't on
(08:13):
the last episode because it was right when we were supposed to
pre record because the weekend Iwas on my trip is the weekend we
were normally supposed to record.
So we. Were like sick.
We'll just pre record. Here's the problem.
Like we'll just pre record. But then I had like this really
nasty cough and it wasn't going to sound good on the podcast.
So I was like, OK, let's not, let's not do that.
So I ended up not being on that episode and Logan filled in.
(08:36):
It was a good episode. If you haven't listened to it go
check it out because I still hadto edit it and the show.
Must go on. So everything was fine.
I got better. My mom and I left.
So here's my here's my review ofCanada.
All right, because we're pretty.Famous for dogging on Canada,
here's a Like we. I've never been outside the
(08:59):
continental United States, right?
Never left the country. I don't count cruises where you
go like to the Bahamas and stuffcuz like right.
If Disney owns it, it's still inthe country, yeah.
So we flew out of our airport. We took a nonstop flight up
there, which was nice. We went to Toronto.
(09:20):
Technically we're in Ontario. That was the section of Canada
we decided to go to because we really wanted to just go to
Toronto. So we flew there.
Our flight was delayed by an hour because they'd had customs
issues like coming to our airport, which is something I
(09:40):
like completely keep forgetting about because Canada's like so
close. It's not like going to Europe or
going to Japan, right? It's like right there, but I
keep forgetting that it's a different country.
So you do need a passport to getin there.
Like, they don't just let anybody in.
It's not like going from, you know, state to state where it's
like, oh, just drive across the border, no issue.
(10:03):
So we got there. I was really worried going
through customs was going to take forever, but it didn't.
It was literally just scan your passport, punch some buttons on
a computer and tell us why you're here, how long you're
going to be here, and then you're good.
So we get there. Why?
Are you here? I have a bomb here.
I'm actually here scouting for the US government.
(10:25):
You're going to be the 51st state, my mom said.
I could not tell that to the Border Patrol agent because we'd
probably get detained. And I was like, but it would be.
Really funny. It would be so awesome so.
We got through. Here's where the first problem
popped up is my mom and I both paid for like global talk and
(10:46):
text on our phones, so we had service there.
We get there, we have no service.
Our phones do not work, which isnot good given the age we live
in. Order of Tim Horton's, yeah.
Exactly. So we go down like to the rental
car place and we're like, hey, do you guys have like an old
school GPS or like a car that has a map built into it?
(11:09):
Like we'll pay extra because ourphones don't work because we're
American. And this guy was really nice.
He was like, yeah, I'll find youa car that has a thing in it.
So we get in the car, do the whole thing, like put the map up
and everything. And turns out because it's a
Canadian car, all of their maps are in kilometers per hour.
(11:29):
And we don't know how to read that or what the conversion is
we're so used to like. In.
Insert number feet turn left or like in 2.3 miles, turn right.
But this was like in 1.2 kilometers and we're like, whoa,
whoa, you got to start speaking English, man.
(11:50):
So thankfully I had connected myphone to the Wi-Fi and pulled up
the like our hotel on the on theGPS and I was able to plug it
into the car and we got there. But the thing was, we only had
like phone service wherever we had Wi-Fi.
Right. The whole time, yeah.
The whole time. Wow and.
(12:11):
I couldn't text anyone either. Like if you did not have an
iPhone or you were not on Discord, I was not talking to
you because I don't have text. So we did a lot of bouncing back
and forth on the Wi-Fi and stuff.
And that was we got Thursday andthen Friday morning we got up
(12:32):
and we stayed a little outside Toronto because we didn't want
to stay in Toronto. So we stayed like, I don't know,
like 45 minutes outside the city.
And then we took, they have likea train that goes from the city
we were in to back into Toronto. And it was actually really nice.
(12:56):
I was really excited because I love trains.
I love riding trains. I think it's super cool.
And we don't have that kind of public transportation here in
the US, unfortunately. So we got to ride the train.
It was really cool. Toronto was pretty sick.
We did the CN Tower, we did the Ripley's Aquarium, which was
pretty neat. And then we kind of just came
back to the hotel and chilled. I'm going to be honest, we spent
(13:18):
a lot of time in the hotel on Netflix because Canadian Netflix
still. Has the office.
So we binge watched through likethe 1st 2 1/2 seasons of The
Office over this like short 4 day trip.
Yeah. And then Saturday was another
chill day. We went and checked out like
some malls that were around. Bless you, thank you.
Checked out some malls that werearound where we were staying and
(13:41):
it was just super chill. And then Sunday, our flight back
was at 8:00 AM and we were staying 45 minutes out.
And the Air Canada app gives us the airline we took said, hey,
you should be at the airport by 5 just so that like you can get
through customs and everything. And we're like, oh, that makes
sense because we went through customs in Canada.
(14:01):
So when we got off the plane here, you just walk out.
So we get there. And in order for us to get there
at 5:00, we had to leave at like4, which meant we had to be up
at 3:30, which meant we were really up at 2:30.
AM. Because.
(14:21):
We're. Accustomed to Central time, not
Eastern Time. So we get up, we drive there.
It's. Freezing.
Rain. We have very limited GPS to get
us back to the airport. We technically got lost and then
got back on the road and it was fine and then we get to the
airport, we check in customs took like maybe 20 minutes.
(14:45):
I forgot how annoying airport security is because we have TSA
pre-check. So anywhere we fly domestically
you don't have to take anything out of your bag.
Like you have to keep your shoeson the whole thing.
You just keep going so we. Go through this now you need to
take all your electronics out ofthe bag, shoes off, belt off
everything out of your pockets. I'm like, oh, I understand why
we take. Me out to dinner first.
Leave me. Alone, I will say the Canadian
(15:09):
airport staff were really nice, which I know is like a
stereotype that just Canadian people are nice.
And most of the ones I interacted with while we were
there were. So we get to our gate at like
6:45 or no, we got there like 615.
We're not boarding until 7:30, so we have nothing to do for an
(15:33):
hour and a half. Which is just how the airport
goes, because you're like. Sat there on our phones and
then. Air.
Canada was like, hey, we're going to board you guys 5
minutes early 'cause we're, you know, we're running ahead of
schedule. Like, OK, sick, I'll spare you
the details. We sat on the plane before we
(15:54):
took off for an hour and a half between.
The copilot wasn't there 'cause he got stuck in customs.
Other passengers on the plane got stuck in customs.
We had to de ice the plane because it was cold outside and
then because of all of that we lost our spot in line to take
off, which meant like 12 planes got in front of us.
So we had to wait for all those to take off and.
(16:15):
Then once. We finally took off.
We came into the airport here, we're going in for a landing and
then immediately had to pull up because there was another plane
on the runway because we had taken so long and so many delays
that we lost our spot to land onthe runway here.
So we had to loop back around, land again and then taxi around
(16:36):
the entire airport because we lost our gate.
Meanwhile, whole time, by the way, this was the worst part of
the flight is because I was sickand I had all these sinus issues
going on my ears it felt like. Someone was.
Stabbing me in the ear and it like my ear would not pop and it
was so painful and I was like, Iwant to die.
(16:57):
So eventually we land, we get off the plane.
I was like, no. So this is just a really large
scale of coming home late and losing your spot in the
driveway. Yeah, like it is.
Pretty much. So we got back.
It was a good trip. I would definitely go back.
I know there's a lot of stuff, like other stuff, like as you go
more out West in Canada, they have more like nature and
(17:20):
mountains and stuff. So I think it'd be fun to go
back and do more eventually rough review.
Canada is just the United States, but not it's a little
more Europe. They have two Rs Toys-R-Us.
True, they did have a Toys R Us in one of the malls we went to
and they had a store that was entirely dedicated to DVDs,
(17:43):
which was insane. I was like, wait, you guys still
do physical media up here? That's crazy.
You know what kind of you know how many like backs we'd have to
break to get a physical media store in the US, dude?
No literally and how it would like close like instantly it.
Would close like the same day itopened, yeah.
So yeah, it was good. The only confusing part was
(18:06):
like, they obviously do like kilometers and meters and that
kind of stuff, and the Canadian dollar is worth less by a lot
than the US dollar, so there wasstuff.
That. Bought.
Let's see, did you know that Apple did this cool funky little
feature where they now have a built in conversion calculator
(18:28):
in the Apple Calculator? That's dope with.
Live conversion rates, So a dollar in the US is $1.39 in
Canada. That.
So it's not a one to one ratio in any way shape or form.
So. It's more.
Yes, it's more in Canada. So like when we went to the
aquarium for me and my mom it was like 100 bucks and then when
(18:52):
we got back and I looked at my credit card statement it was
like 70 bucks because of our. Conversion rates went because I
thought. I was spending a lot more money
than I actually was because theyuse the same dollar sign we do.
I was like, oh dude, that's $100.
That's a lot of money. Yeah, I figured out when I get
home, then I get home and like my bank statement, I got charged
like 3 bucks here, 4 bucks therefor, you know, conversion fees.
(19:18):
Did you get tariffed on the way back?
No. I did not spend enough in Canada
for them to be like you need to pay taxes on everything that you
spent. While you were.
Here, like what? I just got a cheeseburger.
Like, I don't know. Overall it was a good trip.
I'll use this to segue into our.My poutine.
I'll use it. Oh wait, I did try Tim horton's
(19:40):
while I was there. How was it?
It was, I mean it was fine like. But they're like putting that in
America. Now too, so it's nothing
special. Like, yeah, you, I love how your
first international experience was like Canada, which is like,
well, you got to international but like, don't you throw.
Me any you're going to start small explode, right?
(20:02):
His tiny American brain would not comprehend.
No. Italy My.
Mom went to Europe. My gosh, I think she was in
Spain. And she was like, if you guys
didn't live here, we would have just moved to Spain.
And I'm like, right? Sorry.
To chain you down, I'll move outas.
Soon as I can I've. Still got.
(20:23):
I'm still going to Paris. One day I'm going to get me and
Amy there. We're going to go to France and
it's going to be okay. The French hate Americans and
honestly I don't blame them but like TBH the French are kind of
lame too so. We're in number.
What? Yeah, so.
When I got back, I used this a segue into our first little
(20:46):
first little main topic here. We had the Nintendo Switch to
Direct, which I watched at my desk at work because I was I was
going to take the whole day off.Or even.
Just take like a for the day because it was in the morning so
I could like stream and react toit.
Right, but. We booked a production, yeah,
(21:08):
that day. And when product once production
is booked, no one can take that day off.
Yeah, that makes sense. Doesn't matter if your left
kidney is falling out, you stillneed to come into work.
Which isn't true, but like you know and this is.
America. Yeah, we had to switch to
direct. It was pretty sick and everyone
was really hyped watching the direct.
(21:30):
Like it was super exciting. I was.
Hyped I watched it. And then everything after the
Direct started happening, I'm, let me just say, I've been in
the trenches for you, Nintendo. I think it's just.
Something to switch? People for I've been down here
in the trenches trying to clear up your mess and you just so how
(21:53):
do you want to kind of. Rough.
You want to. Give me your general thoughts on
what you know. So so.
Far. So I'm way less in the know.
Nick is definitely our Nintendo correspondent.
Oh yeah, I did a. 25 minute video on yes on the switch too.
By the way, raw footage for thatvideo was 47 minutes long.
(22:16):
The rough code was 33 minutes long and I somehow trimmed it
down to 25. It was insane that I didn't even
say everything I wanted to say. So I was, I kind of forgot it
was happening, Loki. And so I got up like normal and
I was just getting like doing random work before class and and
(22:43):
I was doing homework and I was just like, Oh, I finished my
homework and I was started to write my wedding vows because
that was like on my goal for the.
Week. And I started writing my wedding
vows and then I turned on I opened YouTube because I always
put on like low fire whatever inthe morning.
And then it was like scheduled stream and I was like, Oh my
gosh, I forgot about it. So I clicked and I watched the
(23:04):
switch to direct while writing my wedding vows and it was
awesome. As far as the whole.
The. Whole thing goes.
They showed a lot of stuff, yeah.
It was an. Hour, a lot of stuff yeah, I'm
very, very excited about the newMario Kart.
That is going to be a highlight for sure.
I think mouse controls are awesome.
(23:26):
I think that 4K 60 and then liketheir whole like docked system
and then like making the joy cons like magnetic instead of
the little like clip thing like that's perfect.
Like all that. Like I love all all of the like
quality of life stuff. I'm like, yes, 10 out of 10.
Let's do it. That being said, I cannot afford
(23:51):
a switch to now. That is not me complaining about
the price and we'll get into that in a little bit.
I think the price is fair. I don't think the price is
unfair and we'll get into that in a little bit.
It's more that the stage of lifethat I'm at while I'm in school,
there will be no $450 console. My OLED will do me just fine
(24:12):
until I graduate, so I'll bring. My switch to and we can.
Yes, I cannot. Wait to play your switch to I
think the I think the voice chatstuff is I'm kind of mad like I
don't, I don't really care. That's just not the style of
gaming that I usually go for. I'm I'm more inclined to either
(24:33):
play single player or locally, unless it's like with you, But
then even that I'm like, are we going to use that instead of
discord or like, you know, what's the thing?
We're not we're not. And I think the camera thing is
fine. I've questions about the
parental controls. I think that could get real
nasty really fast. But the new Mario party looks
(24:56):
really awesome. That's pretty much it.
I'm not super like deep in the know of the rumors and the
controversy and like all their new like third party games that
are that. So I'm excited.
I will get one eventually, but Icannot preorder 1I.
Really. Just after years of me nagging
(25:18):
you to get one? Like when you got your OLED and
it was like I had been nagging you for months to upgrade to an
OLED even though it didn't matter?
Hey, does me want an OLED? I'm gonna get rid of mine, She.
Has one, OK, nevermind. She has the white one.
She has the white Joy car. Oh yeah, and I have the red and
blue ones and so we're not even going to get mixed up and it's
great. This.
(25:38):
Is great. It's because you'll have a dock
for the living room and a dock for your bedroom.
Exactly. You get it.
See this is great because I already have two dogs and so she
we have a dock for the living room, a dock for the bedroom,
and a travel dog there. You go.
At least you don't. At least you're not like me.
Where? Life is good switching.
Over to the entire switch to in structure is great until you
(26:00):
realize that I can't stream any games until I get an extra dock.
Because. The Switch 2 is not compatible
with the Switch dock. Nope.
So I have to buy. Well, I figured not.
Because of the size. So yeah, so you're.
The more so you're the Nintendo guy.
What are your what are your thoughts?
You've been in the trenches, so.Switch to honestly everything
(26:23):
I've wanted from a Switch, it's backwards compatible so I can
take all of my Switch games forward, which makes me feel a
lot better about the launch lineup because I feel like the
launch lineup for switch to is not as strong as the original
Switch just because like Mario Kart's great.
Like, I'm not saying Mario Kart's bad, but I do feel like
(26:45):
it's not as strong as Breath of the Wild, You know what I'm
saying? Like Breath of the Wild, they
sold more copies of Breath of the IT Was Phenomenon than they
did Switches because people couldn't get enough Switches to
the copies of Breath of the Wild.
So like, do I think Mario Kart will be that?
Maybe. I think Mario Kart's going to
(27:06):
sell really well. They have a Direct coming up
this week that supposedly, according to like one of the, I
think it's the VP of Nintendo ofAmerica.
He was like, you want to watch the Direct because there's going
to be something in there that makes you understand why the
game is $80.00. And like I said, or like Jackson
said, we'll come back to the prices in a bit.
So yeah, it's backwards compatible.
(27:27):
It's got a nicer screen. It's a little bit bigger, which
means hopefully maybe I don't need a grip, which I already
have a grip pre-ordered, which is fine because I like the grip,
but maybe I won't need one out-of-the-box.
The mouse controls that we talked about look really sick
and from the people who have gone hands on, they've said it's
really good, really like very responsive, which is great.
(27:52):
And it goes up to 1080P in handheld and 4K on your TV,
which means I can play Fortnite 4K60FPS on my TV, which by
default makes it better than my Xbox One.
So the switch to like and as I was watching it like they showed
Final Fantasy 7 is coming to switch to a bunch of other like
(28:13):
great third party games are coming to switch to.
And that tells me that I don't need APS 4 Pro or an Xbox One S
anymore. Like I don't need either of
those consoles because neither of those consoles are getting
the new games anyway. So I really only need to keep
one of them just to basically streaming stick in a DVD player
(28:34):
like and at a certain point if Ireally wanted to I could just
sell both of them and get a Blu-ray player and a fire stick
like. Which is so like the Switch of
all consoles, like is like the ultimate console and.
Everyone's dogging on the Switchtoo, and they're like, it's not
(28:55):
as good as APS 5. And I'm like, I don't need it to
be as good as APS 5. I need it to be able to run the
game and look good and right. I can take it wherever I want to
go. Like I get, I get.
Which I saw a really, a really, I saw a funny argument about
someone was like, do you guys actually like feel comfortable
(29:18):
bringing out your Switch in public?
And they were like, because theywere like, if you brought out
like a Game Boy in public, like no one, no one's like batting an
eye. But if you're at the grocery
store and whip out your Switch, people are like, geez, what an
iPad, baby. I do, I'm OK with it.
Yeah, I know you do, but I have anxiety the.
(29:39):
Most I'll get out of my switch too is it launches June 5th and
that is a Thursday and it's a week before we leave on a it's
the whole trip is like 12 days but we're going on a 7 day
(29:59):
Alaskan cruise. So this is your travel year
really. Excited because we're going on
this cruise right after Switch 2comes out.
So I'm like OK, so on our like 8hour flight to Washington I'll
have something to do. So my lunch lineup for Switch 2
right now is Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 edition, which
(30:23):
I'll get the upgrade for free because I'm part of Nintendo
Switch Online, because I'm cool Mario Kart and I want to go pick
up Xenoblade Chronicles X. Those are going to be like my
three games that I play at launch.
They're bringing Cyberpunk, which is great.
I'm glad that that game is therefor those who want it, which is
(30:45):
also how I feel about the like the game chat stuff where it's
like I'm going to keep using Discord, but I'm glad that it's
here for the people who want to use it.
And they did. Actually, this is probably one
of the only good pieces of communication they've done in
the last week is they were very clear that like if your kid has
parental controls on their Switch, you actually have to
(31:08):
approve who is in their game chat every single time.
So if they wanna game chat, you know, if a little Timmy wants to
game chat with his friend Billy, like you have to go on your
phone and accept that Billy can join his right?
Chat. So they've done and like.
Has historically had really great parental controls like
they are very, they're leading the market on that so.
(31:30):
It's not going to be like Xbox where anyone can jump in your.
You. Could just get.
Called inward on a Tuesday morning?
Well, you probably Call of Duty.Depending on your group, but
they've said it so that like random people can't just join
your right your thing. So overall I'm very excited.
(31:52):
I'm definitely going to try to pre-order one.
I've got a couple different Whenever they announce pre-order
dates I will be taking my laptopto work and getting it all set
up because it's a lot easier to do that stuff on my laptop than
it is on my phone. And I've already gone through
like Walmart, Amazon, Target, Best Buy, GameStop.
And I've. Updated all of like my shipping
(32:14):
stuff, all my payment information, 'cause I'm like I
will not be that guy who misses out on the switch to pre-order
because my credit card information wasn't updated.
So I've got all those and they've started doing pre-orders
in other countries and they've actually talked about how good
the process is. Like it's selling out, but
they're going. To.
(32:35):
Actual they're going. To real people, yeah.
There's no scalpers this time like.
Queue systems and invite links and like they're doing all kinds
of stuff to like make it a better process.
And I'm hopeful that they'll bring all of that over here
because it's all like the international like yeah, Walmart
and Amazon and stuff. Amazon UK.
We have a friend who tried to pre-order the switch to from the
(32:59):
UK because the UK pre-orders went up on Friday and he got
rejected twice. So they're not even like they're
region like. They know you have a VPN.
Yeah, they're like. We know you're we're not
shipping to America, right, Which you know, makes sense with
all the import fees and stuff now and.
Isn't there some kind of thing about like if you the higher
(33:20):
your gameplay hours, the like higher priority you have on the
pre-order so. That is for Nintendo
specifically, which is somethingI'm glad they're doing because
it offers a nice backup for me if I don't get in like 1 of the
normal like normal retailers. I'm aiming for Best Buy because
(33:41):
Best Buy said they're doing midnight launch, which means I
can pull up to my local Best Buyat midnight, pick up my Switch
to go home, go to bed because I got to get up and go to work in
the morning, right? But I can have it.
So right, I'm aiming for Best Buy.
GameStop is my backup, but then my backup to the backup is
Nintendo on the day of. Right the.
(34:03):
Switch to direct. They sent out this thing and
they're like, hey, if you register at this link, we will,
you know, send you an invite. And they're essentially
reserving a Switch to for you because you pick which one you
want. You want the console or the
bundle with Mario Kart. And we will reserve that Switch
for you for 72 hours. You have 72 hours to place your
order. If you don't place it in that
(34:24):
time, your link expires and we move on to the next person.
And it is based on, I think you have to be a Nintendo Switch
Online account holder. Yes, you.
And if you're on the family plan, you have to be the one
who's paying for the account. So like I have 5 friends on my
thing and they can't do that because I'm the account holder
(34:48):
who invited them to the family thing.
So they can't do that, but I can.
You have to be the account holder.
You have to have over 50 hours of gameplay on your Switch in
the last year, which I definitely do between all of the
streaming and just playing on myown.
Right. And then you also have to be
like opted in to receive emails from them, obviously, because
(35:09):
they have to send you the e-mailand like some other stuff, like
shared your information with them.
But I am glad that they're doingit because it does kind of
circumvent scalping in a way. Yeah, and a lot of, I think
GameStop, Best Buy and Walmart are all limiting their
pre-orders to 1 per household and they're only doing online
(35:31):
pre-orders. So like if I wanted one and my
sister wanted one, well tough luck.
You're going to have to place itto send it to someone else's
house. Right, because.
Like mine will be the only one coming to this house.
So they're doing a lot of like anti scalping stuff, which I
think is great because we watched the PlayStation five and
the Xbox be out of stock for years because every time
(35:52):
pre-orders went up, scalpers went bam and bought the entire
stock of five and drop them up on eBay.
So hopefully whenever pre-ordersgo live, we'll see how that
goes. And I say that because they were
supposed to go live on Wednesdaylast week as of when this
episode comes out. And then Nintendo.
Said. Just kidding.
We're not because they put tariffs on the Vietnam and
(36:15):
that's where all the switches are made.
So we don't know how much it's going to cost now, actually,
which everyone started freaking out because and here's where the
misinformation starts. You just have to let me yap here
for a second. Let me.
Hear it? So when they announced that the
Switch caught the Switch to cost$450, everyone was like, oh,
it's because of tariffs, becauseof the big bad orange man.
And there was half of the peoplewho were saying that and then
(36:37):
the other half who were like, no, this is a fair price for the
console and what they're doing and based on inflation.
And like the other two premium consoles on the market are
$500.00. So this is still $50 cheaper
than that. So like it falls right in within
like, no, this is not like a tariff price like, right, Could
it have been $400.00? Maybe, but I don't know.
(37:00):
So and then Doug Bowser came outI think Thursday, the day after
the direct and said, no, the price is actually not based on
tariffs. This is like we based the price
on existing tariffs and deals and stuff, and that's the price
we came up with. But now that we're delaying it,
(37:22):
if there is a new price that will be affected by the tariffs.
So it kind of vindicated the people like me who were like,
hey, no, this was not affected by tariffs before, but it might
be now. And both things can be true
because everyone's like, well, you're just trying to defend
Nintendo and and you're lying. And I'm like, no, I'm telling
you facts. You're just choosing not to
listen to them. So right, the the the state of
(37:45):
things right now as of Friday, April 11th, when we're recording
this episode, things could change over the weekend or they
could not Is Mr. President has put a 90 day pause on all
tariffs going to all countries, including Vietnam and Vietnam is
like lined up with the rest of the countries to make a new
(38:08):
trade deal. So we should hopefully be
getting a new pre-order date within the next like couple
days, right. I wouldn't be shocked if they
announced pre-orders go up on the 17th the same day as the
Mario Kart direct. Yeah, that seems like the next
like good day to. Yeah, I think that makes sense
(38:29):
do. That because you can like get a
second wave of hype and everyonewill be ready to pre-order their
switch to. The more diabolical thing to
come out of this is that they had only stopped pre-orders in
the US, which. Is so no.
I hate that it's more diabolicalbecause everyone in Canada was
like, oh it sucks to be an American.
(38:51):
We're going to pre-order our Switch twos on April 9th because
ours didn't get delayed. And then on April 8th, Nintendo
said, oh hey guys, we're actually going to not be taking
Canadian pre-orders tomorrow because we need you guys to be
on the same like pre-order calendar as the States.
And I think that's. Honestly more evil because it
was 24 hours before. Like at least with.
(39:13):
The US we had like we had the five days in.
Advance. Like this was not like we were
ready to spend the money. It was kind of diabolic.
That's kind of hilarious, but also like so evil.
Sorry, Canada, man, big Canada theme this this season.
(39:34):
We well, that's the other thing though, like thinking about the
switch is I don't think that we are comprehending the switch to
as a luxury console quite yet. But in reality, like what
they're showing is luxury. Like are you think, dude?
And they said in the direct, like they said, this is not just
(39:56):
an A slight update to the switch.
This is a new, better console. And it was like, oh, like, they
care. I got into so many arguments
with people on Twitter because, like, they were complaining.
We're like, oh, the Switch too is going to get even more
expensive because of the tariffs.
And I kept responding to people.I was like, yeah, oh, no, my
(40:17):
luxury console item that I don'tneed to live might get a little
more expensive because we're trying to not get screwed over
by every other country on the planet.
They're like, you're just defending the blah, blah, blah,
blah. It's not a luxury item.
And I was like, you don't need it to live.
It's not food, it's not water, it's not a house, it's a luxury.
I it's meant for entertainment purposes.
(40:38):
OK, I know, I know you consumersthink that you need the switch.
To to live. But you don't consumer as a
slur. That's wild.
Not it's a consumer. But CONSOOMER.
Consumer. Which I speed ran.
(40:58):
Getting blocked on Twitter todayis someone posted something they
said something like, so the president didn't accomplish
anything with the trade war except for delaying our switch
to pre-order. And I just went in the comments
like I was trying to be super chill.
And I was like, so you're telling me that 50 plus
international countries that arenow lined up to like make better
(41:21):
trade dealers is accomplishing nothing?
Yeah, I the reply got hidden on the tweet and I got blocked in a
span of like 30 minutes and I was like, Dang, that's.
So these people don't. Want facts?
I'm just like, I'm not even trying to get political.
I'm just telling you that you'renot speaking truthfully.
So thinking about this like the the biggest, the biggest like
(41:42):
change that I saw that I thoughtwas interesting to talk about
was their new digital game sharing system.
Yes. And they and we kind of brought.
It up on the last. Direct.
Right. And like we kind of brought it
up in the last episode, but didn't really have all the
information. It was more of a casual thing.
So like, can you explain to me how that works and if that's
(42:05):
good? Because the way that I've seen
it is people are like, there is officially no benefit to
physical. And I'm like, I just strongly
disagree, OK? So still, I'll explain this in
the best way that I can because I don't fully understand it, but
I like, I kind of understand howit works.
So I'll use you and me as an example.
(42:27):
If I have a digital copy of Tears of the Kingdom, I can get
it as this virtual game card. And if we link our systems
locally once, I can then send you games and I can essentially
loan games out to you for two weeks.
And then after that two weeks, it shoots it back to me.
(42:48):
And if you're not done, I just shoot it back to you.
All of your saved data and stuffstays on your Switch.
So if you know you want to try out like Fire Emblem or
something or Xenoblade, right, Right.
I can loan you Xenoblade. You can try it or beat it.
And then it kicks back to me andyou're like, oh, I'll buy
Xenoblade on my own. And then you buy it and then all
(43:09):
of your saved. It is still there.
So close enough. Welcome back, Redbox.
It's. Essentially turning digital
games, it's giving digital gamesthe same shareability that
physical games have. Yeah, which?
I and I talked about this in my video, I think is a way it's a
very pro consumer move that theyadded for sure.
(43:33):
I think to kind of justify and negate the negative reaction
from like raising game prices, the price because now it's like,
oh, if you don't want $80.00 Mario Kart, well find a friend
who has it linked up locally andthen they can loan it to you and
you can try it and see if it's worth $80.00 and then go buy it
on your own or just keep borrowing it from them.
The only thing? Well.
(43:53):
I think that's age well just before you continue, but just I
think that concept alone is veryinteresting because we've kind
of. We're.
Slowly going back to the blockbuster model and the red
box model of give it a shot. And you know, that's how my dad
played games back in the day washe would loan him, he would get
(44:15):
a Mario game and you had two weeks to beat it and then you
would give it back. The difference is now we keep
our save data. Yeah, so.
I think the way Nintendo sees this is it could bring in more
revenue in the long run because.Because you.
(44:35):
Because you get an opportunity to try a game for free, and if
you like it, you will buy it on your own instead of having to
keep going back and forth with your friend.
I think that's, I think that's. Really, really smart.
You know what else they're bringing back?
I think it's. Risky what?
DS download play. You can do.
(44:58):
So there it's called game share.Now it's really like it's a
stupid game, but it's if I bringmy Switch to to your apartment,
right? And let's say you, me and Amy
want to play Super Mario 3D World and you and Amy don't have
it, but I have it. I can essentially share my game
with you in person locally and you guys can play 3D World on
(45:22):
your Switch in your hand as if you owned the game.
Interesting, but you? Don't and that's different from
the virtual game card because ifI give you, you know, if I loan
you my virtual copy of Xenoblade3, I can't play it.
Well, you have it right. So it's one of those like, oh, I
beat the game, do you want to try it?
Whereas the game share is like we're all together locally.
(45:46):
Local and. We all have our own switches.
We want to play a game. Here's this, which would be
great for a game like Among Us that is a very in person local
type thing where you can just share it with everyone and only
one person. You don't have to.
Which is also a feature that I think benefits because of raised
(46:07):
game prices because you can share your game locally.
So my question is how many switches can I be connected to
at a time? Like if I'm locked into you and
I'm and I'm borrowing your game,if I go to someone else in town
and be like, hey, let's link up,you can borrow my game.
Does that cancel our link? I'm not sure that's.
(46:31):
The confusing part to me, I don't know and like do we have
to be on the same online plan? No.
Do we? Have to be on OK, no you.
Just have to be friends so. Here's what's here's where I see
this becoming really useful is in where you're like, hey, I'm
having a party like next week. I we're linked.
(46:53):
Can I borrow one of your Jack Box packages?
That's immediately what I thought about was.
Like and I was like, oh, we're. Doing a we're doing a game
night, a small group. Can I borrow Jack Box Party Pack
8 or whatever Right. And then you love and I can be
like, sure, because you're not using it at the moment.
And then I don't have to go backand like buy Jack Box right
(47:14):
When? You're not going to use it super
often, but like, it'd be nice tohave tonight, right?
Yeah, and it saves me 25 bucks. So it's it's a good feature and
I'm glad they're adding it. I don't think they did an
incredible job at explaining it.Which yeah, I.
Don't really get it. Kind of seems to be.
The theme. Yeah.
Because they announced like all this stuff in the switch to
(47:35):
direct. They're like hey a bunch of
different switch games are getting upgrades.
But the upgrade I felt like I made a joke about this in my
video. Some games are getting free
upgrades like Mario Odyssey is getting a free upgrade, Links
Awakening, Echoes of wisdom, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Like those kind of games are getting free upgrades to run
(47:56):
better, look better on the Switch then some of them you
have to pay for. But even the paid ones are not
all created equally because likeMetroid Prime 4 and Pokémon
Legends ZA are just graphics enhancements.
Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild are graphic
enhancements. Plus the Zelda Notes app which
is extra story content because they added voice things.
(48:17):
And then Mario Party Jamboree and Kirby and the Forgotten Land
are getting like extra little DLC things.
But we didn't really. We still don't know the US
pricing of any of these packs, by the way, and it's been almost
two weeks like. Well, they might not know it
the. Assumption is they're 10 and $20
respectively for like. Like because if you look at the
(48:39):
physical edition of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the
Kingdom, they're $10 more than they were originally.
So the assumption is, oh it's a $10 upgrade pack, but if you
already own the game, you can just buy the upgrade pack and
upgrade your game. Or, but specifically for the
Zelda ones, those are the only ones that are.
If you're part of the Nintendo Switch Online Plus Expansion
(49:01):
pack, you get those for free, but only those for free.
And then there was a lot of misinformation going around that
like if you buy the physical version of the Nintendo Switch 2
edition of the game, there's a download code in the box for the
upgrade pack and it's just a Switch cartridge in.
And then someone had to e-mail Nintendo UK and be like, what's
going on? And they're like, well, if you
buy the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of any game, it's the
(49:25):
game plus the upgrade pack on the cartridge.
Like, it's all there. When you plug the game, there's
no download code in the box. Like it's all there.
But the fact that you have to e-mail Nintendo support to get
that answer, which also is partially because some people
are just stupid and can't read the fine print that's literally
(49:46):
printed in a paragraph on the front of the box like.
And it's like it's there and then.
They announce these game key cards and this we can this will
be one of the last things we talk about prices this is
getting so. Complicated.
They announce these game key cards, which essentially
function the same way as an Xboxdisk, where you stick it in your
(50:08):
Xbox and it says, oh cool, you bought this game, let's download
the whole thing from the Internet, because there's
nothing on this disk except a little license that says you can
play this game and that's what the game key cards are.
But then everyone like one person, like 1 journalist said,
oh, every game is going to be like this.
And then everyone just started running with that as fact.
(50:30):
Like everyone just started running with, Oh yeah, every
game is going to be like that. Mario Kart's going to be like
that too. So the kingdom's going to be
like that. Donkey Kong's going to be like
that. Like every game's going to be
like that. And it's like, no, there's two
different kinds. There's normal Switch cartridges
that have the full game on therethat go up to 64 gigabytes.
Even Cyberpunk is like completely on a cartridge, which
(50:51):
I think is incredible. They fit that entire game on a
64 gigabyte cartridge. But then there's some games like
Final Fantasy 7 will probably bea game key card 'cause it's like
150 gigabytes on my PS4. And you just stick it in there,
It downloads the game and then you have it, you put it on your
internal storage, it's whatever.But because it's a game key
(51:13):
card, it has a little physical thing and it's not tied to your
account. You can pop that card out, put
it back in the case, take it to GameStop, they'll give you $0.50
for it and you can move on with your life.
And you can sell the game key cards just like you do Xbox
games, just like you do. PlayStation.
So does that key card mean if you bought the key card and put
it in your switch and then installed it, could I put it in
my switch and install it again? Or is it 1 license?
(51:35):
Yes you can. For all intents and purposes it
works the same as an Xbox disk. It's the same thing Xbox and
Sony have been doing for years where if I buy Final Fantasy 7,
I stick it in there, it downloads the game.
I still need to have the card inthere to play the game.
I can't start the game. Without the card it it is, but
(51:56):
all the stuff is still. Stored internally, yes.
It's a physical game for all intents and purposes because you
have to have the card in there for it to, but.
But it's so big that it can't just sit.
On the card fit on the cartridge.
That's all right. So I which?
Is a very basic concept, Yes, it's a very.
Basic concept that people just don't understand and they'd
(52:17):
rather lie about it. Speaking of things people would
rather lie about Mario Kart World is not $90.00 in the
United States. OK, let's just open there.
Yeah, it's $80.00. That's a little pricey, but like
1 journalist published a headline and said Mario Kart
World $90.00 USD when that's nottrue.
(52:37):
The $90.00 headline or the $90.00 price came from a it's
from Spain. Yes, it came.
From Spain and this guy didn't no, didn't recognize that it was
pounds instead of USD and just printed the headline because it
was like 10 minutes after the direct.
And it's been a week and a half and people are still running
(52:59):
with this store. We're still.
Fighting it like. They're like on $90.00 games,
That's too expensive. We're going to pirate them all.
And I'm like, first of all, it'snot $90.00 because people will
say like, oh, I can't defend $90.00 games.
And I'm like, great, you don't have to because none of the
games are. So but also think about we're
in, we're living in an interesting space in gaming
where games are not respecting our time, where you think about
(53:24):
like the Spider Man 2 game from PlayStation.
I'm not super in the gaming world, so I just don't know what
anything's called the new SpiderMan game on PlayStation.
Like it was a $70 game. And I know people that are like.
Yeah, the bit for it. So I don't know why we're
complaining about Mario Kart. Well, so it was $70.00, but then
(53:45):
everyone I talked to that's played it, they were like, yeah,
I beat this. I beat the story in 24 hours,
like 24 hours after I bought thegame, the story was done.
And so that's insane. But think about games like Mario
Kart 8, like they've continued to add to it and they've added
it and to the point where we've been playing Mario Kart 8 for
(54:06):
eight years, eight years now, right.
Yeah. So like, when you think about,
oh, $80.00 sounds like a lot forMario Kart 10.
Dollars a year. But if we're going to play it
for almost a decade, that is theinvestment you're making.
And it, it feels a lot more worth it than these like other
(54:29):
like third party games that are more like, oh, we're we're doing
this or even like a you're like,oh, why would I pay this much
for the new Forza game when it'sliterally the just like all the
other Forza games, but with slightly different content?
Like that is way more of an argument.
That is way better of an argument than new Mario Kart
(54:50):
$80.00. I don't have $80.00.
Yeah, I don't have $80.00 either.
But once I pay that $80.00, I don't have to buy it.
I don't have to pay another $80.00 until I have children.
So like it's it's. There's also a lot of talk of
like what I think is hurting this Mario Kart game, at least
in public perception, is they haven't shown all the cards yet,
(55:12):
but they gave us the price. Because if they come out in this
direct and they say, hey, we have a ten wave DLC like booster
course pass for the next four years, well then you kind of
start to understand the $80.00 price tag.
But they didn't want to put thatin the Switch 2 direct because
they're doing their own Mario Kart Direct where they'll
presumably show off something like that that will justify the
(55:33):
price tag. So for right now, in the
interim, it's a little weird because you're like 80, that's a
lot and you haven't like shown me a lot.
So I'm kind of in that like holding stage where I'm like, it
might be worth it, but I don't know yet.
And honestly, you also. Think about most people will
(55:54):
probably own that game from the bundle anyway.
Yeah, that's what. I was going to say is like if
you don't want to pay 80 then get the bundle for an extra 50
bucks and then you save $30 on Mario Kart you.
Know in in three years when I can afford.
It I'll be careful the bundles. Are limited time.
Only oh shoot, so I'll. I'll just I'll just I'll just
steal yours. We'll connect locally and I'll
(56:16):
just play yours. I'm.
Going to play Mario Kart too much I can't learn.
It out for that long? So yeah, switch to long.
Story short, Great. Can't wait to pre-order one.
Don't. Listen to the haters, I'll
probably. Be showing it off on the podcast
whenever I get one. Yes please.
So also. We're going to continue to cover
(56:37):
the switch to like as more stuffcomes out like that's going to
be like our like news points forthe rest of the year pretty
much. So we.
Didn't even talk about we're getting a new high row Warriors
game. That's awesome.
OK, High Key. That started in the trailer.
And I was like, there's no way we're getting another Zelda game
(56:58):
right now. Like this is insane.
And then I was like, oh, you. Know I will say I will say for
what it's worth, the upgrade packs for Zelda look incredible.
I don't know if you like seen the side by side they look.
Very good. They look incredible and I was
going to buy them before they said like I was part of the
(57:19):
expansion pack for those members.
I was going to buy it, but I wasonly going to buy it for Tears
of the Kingdom to start because like technically still haven't
finished Tears of the Kingdom, but this now gives me like
motivation and incentive to be like, OK, well, that's going to
be my switch to launch game is Tears of the Kingdom.
So I can, you know, move forwardin that game.
(57:39):
The one thing I am, I'll say this and then we can move on
because we're like at an hour, it's OK, is I am really confused
as to why like there's going to be two versions of Breath of the
Wild on the shelf now and there's two versions of Tears of
the Kingdom on the shelf now. Now, granted, one of those
(58:00):
versions is very clearly marked in Nintendo Switch to the box
looks different, right? It looks so, you know, it's
different. And I think that is the one
thing they have done pretty wellis they distinguish the box
differently because you do kind of have to think about the
lowest common denominator in terms of marketing and you have
(58:21):
to go based off of that. You have to go based off the
most like unintelligent person in the planet and go because.
That's who you're serving. And you know, you have to cater
to the the moms and the grandmasand the grandpas and the like
because. Who's buying?
Who's buying it when it when Christmas comes around, right?
And people are like, well, this isn't easy to understand why
(58:42):
grandpas are going to understandthis.
And they're like, yeah, that's why people work at the store.
Yeah, like if you don't understand.
It you ask someone at the store,we do this whole song and dance
go. To YouTube like like here OK.
Here's my final bit and then we're moving on.
Or, or if you're like my mom, shoot, you'll ask their older
brother like it. Yeah, no, literally if my sister
(59:04):
wanted one, my mom would come ask me and I would either go buy
it myself 'cause I know what I'mlooking for.
And tell her what? To look for right here's my.
Final thing and then we can moveon and talk about a Minecraft
movie. I don't care if you criticize
Nintendo, right? I'm, I have my own faults with
everything with this Switch to like as excited as I am, I think
(59:26):
there's some stuff they didn't do great and I talked about that
in my video and I talked about it a little here.
I don't care if you criticize Nintendo.
I don't care if you're upset that, you know, all the
council's $450, all the games are $80.00.
Like, oh, I don't like the trendthat games are going up in
price. Like yeah, sure, I understand
that. That's totally valid.
However, I want to see this samelevel of energy directed at Sony
(59:49):
when the PlayStation 5 Pro comesout at $700.00, not including a
dish drive or a stand or any of that.
And you're looking at like 8-9 hundred dollars to get the full
PlayStation 5 Pro experience. Or you know them re releasing
The Last of Us. They announced a bundle of the
first two games today for like the 7th time.
(01:00:11):
Over the third console generation, like I just want to
see the same level of energy across the board, not just at
Nintendo. Because you're a PlayStation
fan. Like if you're a fan of
something, you should be able tocritically criticize.
(01:00:31):
Yeah, the. Things that the company is doing
like I don't, I don't think, I don't like that they're putting
Breath of the Wild back out there for $70.00.
I think that's weird that they're doing a physical edition
of that game. But I also understand that, you
know, in the year of our Lord 2025, there's people who don't
have Breath of the Wild and they'll get a Switch too, and
then they can get that version and like, right.
(01:00:52):
I don't think Nintendo's expecting these games to sell
like gangbusters. Like I don't also think.
About the collecting market, Like, yeah, you know, collectors
will. Buy them and leave them sealed.
Right. They'll get a couple extra
sales. I think the Switch 2 edition is
really going to take off for games like Metroid Prime 4 and
(01:01:12):
the new Pokémon game. Like those games that aren't out
yet. I think those are a better
justification of the Nintendo Switch 2 edition.
Yeah. Games because they're like not
out or even like Mario Party that came out within the last
year. So it's still relatively new and
not everybody like I don't have the new Mario Party.
So now I feel a little more justified in waiting or you
(01:01:36):
know, like I still don't have Kirby and I, I don't know, maybe
I'll pick up Kirby because it's got the little, you know, runs
better, looks better, and it's got the expansion to it.
So there's stuff like I can be critical of.
I just want to see this across the board.
And if you're going to criticizeSwitch to at least criticize it
accurately criticize the factualstatements that games are
$80.00. The price is $450 for the
(01:01:57):
console. Here's how game key cards work.
Here's how you know the virtual game share works.
Like at least criticize the right things and not the
misinformation that has been going around.
And if someone tries to clear upthe misinformation, don't call
them a bootlicker for trying to clear up the facts.
Like that's what I've run into alot is like this sounds.
(01:02:18):
Sounds a little too specific. I'll try to correct someone and
be like, hey, actually the gamesare $80.00, not $90.00.
And they'll be like, oh, you're just a bootlicker.
You're defending Nintendo's greed.
And I'm like, no, just your statement was not correct.
Like I'm trying to correct you so you're at least criticizing
accurately, right? So that's my piece.
(01:02:41):
I'm still excited. I'm going to put it whenever
they go up, I'm hype. I'm hype.
It'll be great so. It looks great and we're going
to follow that narrative throughout We're.
Like an hour in SO. Let's.
Go to Minecraft, guys. It's going to be a little bit of
a longer episode. A Minecraft movie?
Well, I don't know. I think we'll still, I still
(01:03:01):
think we're going to land under under 90.
We'll, we're going. To hit the You're funny, we're
hit a SpongeBob time card a few moments later, shrinking.
Jackie shrinking. Jackie So guys, guys, guys, let
me let me give my spiel on a Minecraft movie really quick go.
(01:03:22):
So I have been saying for for months now, months now, ever
since that first trailer came out, we have been dogging on
this movie because we were like, why does it look like that?
Why does Jack Black announce everything he does?
Why does you know, why wasn't itintimate?
(01:03:42):
It's a crafting table and it's just like Flint and steel and
it's so stupid. It's so stupid, but we were
like, why does it look like that?
Why isn't this animated? Like Jack Black is an
interesting decision like this and that he just he just looks
like Jack Black in a blue shirt.Like that's not Steve, that's
Jack Black. You know, we so we've been
(01:04:03):
dogging on this movie. Well, a few, I would say a few
months ago I had a feeling and Iwas kind of looking at it and I
was thinking about it and I was like, OK, Jared has is
directing. If you don't know, Jared has is
known for making movies like Masterminds, Nacho Libre and
Napoleon Dynamite are his biggest movies.
(01:04:24):
And I was thinking about this director and I thought very
interesting decision for the Minecraft movie to do someone
who is known for these really bizarro comedies that that we
haven't seen in a long time in the theatre.
And I was like, well, Jack Blackseems to be like on the
promotion tour. He was really passionate about
(01:04:44):
it and everyone was really excited about it.
And I was kind of like, wait a minute, is a Minecraft movie
going to be peak? No, no.
And then it turned into a campaign where I was telling
everyone, I know guys, I think aMinecraft movie is going to be
the best movie of the year. And it was.
So I think it started as a bit where I was like, it's the best
(01:05:08):
movie of the year. What are you talking about?
Of course it's going to be the best movie of the year.
And then I think I And then I think I convinced myself.
This is your cars just like. This is my cars too and I was
like this is the best movie of the year and then I went to the
theater and I had to delay my pre release tickets because of
tornadic weather. Thanks for nothing I.
Want you to know when I went to the theater last night, we were
(01:05:30):
under a severe thunderstorm warning and I went anyway.
Okay, we were, we were not undera severe thunderstorm warning.
We were under a tornado warning. So our tornado threat.
Was 0. It.
Was just raining but still so. I went on a Sunday night in a
theater full of high school dudes.
It was wild because it was. I had never, I have not been in
(01:05:55):
a movie theater full of the target audience for a movie in a
long time, and I hadn't. I don't think I've experienced
that since like the Marvel peak because there's not been a movie
that has gathered the same genreof person in a long time.
Because there was Barbie and Oppenheimer and Across the
(01:06:18):
Spider verse and it was like, but those were all like, those
were all very diverse groups of like, you know, everyone who saw
Barbie, everyone saw Oppenheimer.
But the people seeing a Minecraft movie are it's
primarily high school and middleschool dudes.
Like this is what we're doing. And so it's kind of started and
(01:06:39):
I was like, OK, I'm kind of intothis.
And then Jack Black comes on screen.
He like comes up finally in the movie.
Also spoilers for a Minecraft movie, by the way.
But like, you shouldn't care. So he comes up and he does his
iconic I am Steve and every, I kid you not, the whole theater
(01:07:00):
collectively, when I am Steve and then applauded like it was
the final battle of end game, like we were, we were treating
it like it was such a big deal. And, and The thing is, we live
in a we live in a we're in a generation where everything is
(01:07:22):
ironic. We live in a society, if you
will, where everything is ironic.
Everything is a joke. I don't actually like the
Minecraft movie. It's it's, it's just for the
meme. It's just for the joke.
We're going to pretend we like the Minecraft movie.
But then I was in there and I realized how incredibly special
this really is and how Minecraftas a game has impacted so many
(01:07:44):
lives. And it's and it's changed the
creativity of of a whole generation and a whole
community, myself included. I've been very open on YouTube
about how like Minecraft had encouraged my creativity at a
very young age and has impacted me in that way.
And so being there with that group of people, I, I felt, I
(01:08:07):
felt like I was a part of something and I felt like I was
like, This is why we make moviesis because it's for people, it's
for communities. We are we're we're all gathering
into a room to enjoy a piece of art that was made for a very
specific group of people and wasmade to honor their interests
(01:08:28):
and honor their community and their culture, which is really
bizarre and feels weird to say that the Minecraft movie is
honoring a culture, but it really is when you break it down
that way. And so like everyone laughed at
the same points and everyone like said the same lines and the
chicken jockey came on and we all lost our minds.
(01:08:50):
And it was like, I felt like I was actually a part of
something. And I felt like it was one of
those movie theater experiences I'm not going to forget.
And I felt so like justified andnostalgic and so like, I felt
like they were. The whole point was to pay
tribute to this game that had impacted so many people.
(01:09:11):
And I felt like they did it in away that felt very respectful
but very fun. And it was from a group of
people that seemed to actually care and know what they were
talking about. And so essentially what started
as guys, Minecraft is going to be the best movie of the year.
It's going to be whatever. I gave it five stars and it's at
(01:09:34):
the top of my 2025 movie ranking.
You did. Not give the Minecraft movie 5I.
Gave the Minecraft movie 5 stars.
You can read my litter box review right now.
I don't. Believe you.
I gave it five stars and here's the thing, I've processed it.
Oh my God about it 5. Stars.
I gave it five stars. I, I've processed it, I've
(01:09:59):
thought about it, I've read other reviews, I've watched
other people's videos. I made my own video.
Like I've had conversations and I've gone so back and forth and
I, and I kind of like, I can't really explain it, but I, I
think I'm serious. Like I genuinely gave it five
stars. I loved it, I just I ate up
(01:10:24):
every single second. Now that being said, it's not a
perfect film at all then. Why'd you give me?
Five stars. No, no, no, no, hear me out,
hear me. No, no, no, no, no.
I'm saying that there are flaws to it.
They're all. There's like some pacing issues.
And I felt like the final battlewas maybe a little anticlimactic
(01:10:45):
given the situation. And I felt like there was a
really bad exhibition problem where it's like, yeah, the the
writing quality was not like Oscar worthy, but I understood
that that wasn't their goal. Their goal, like I said, was to
honor this community of this game.
And I felt that that was achieved at such a level based
(01:11:05):
on my experience, that it was worthy of the five star because
I want to go back and watch it. And I felt like I I felt like a
kid again. I was like, I'm 8 years old
playing Minecraft. Like this is crazy.
And I understand. Like you could think it's like
it's kind of cringe. Like the chicken Jackie thing is
ridiculous and people are trashing theaters right now for
(01:11:27):
and it's just not funny. Like it's, it's bonkers.
I don't know if this is true or not but I saw it on deals and it
was like someone recording theirTV and I think it was.
Oh, you sent me this? Flinted steel and then shut the
Molotov cocktail in the theater.I was like, dude, that's too
far. But it's not.
Real funny. And so like, I'm not condoning
(01:11:52):
people destroy public property at all because there's some wild
videos of people like just demolishing theaters at this
movie. And it's just that's not funny
at all to me. Like this theater workers just
are too much. But essentially just like my
general thoughts was that I thought this was a hilarious
(01:12:12):
return to form of an early 2000scomedy.
It was very Jared Hess. It was very Jack Black Jason
Momoa was really funny. It it was the kind of comedy
that I that usually gets thrown some crappy small budget as an
Amazon original and it usually doesn't land.
But to to take a chance on this movie, giving it the budget that
(01:12:36):
it did with the director that ithad, giving the tone that it
that it had for the Minecraft movie is such a weird choice and
such a bizarre thing to be a part of.
And I'm kind of like, I know it's not a cinematic
masterpiece. Like objectively speaking, like
(01:12:59):
as a movie, I'm like, dog, what on earth is this?
But I think all of the external and internal forces inside me
and then like the story of it all and like being together with
everyone, It felt very special. I can't explain it.
Like it. I felt like I was like, This is
(01:13:20):
why we make movies Like Film Bros hate to see me coming
because the Minecraft movie and this has been going around like
it on Twitter and Instagram and everything.
They're like, Oh my gosh, a Minecraft movie goes against
everything Film Bros love. And it's what brought young
people back to theaters because they had like a over $300
(01:13:41):
million opening weekend. That is absolutely insane.
Two months. To do that by the way.
Yes, Sonic 3, it took two, it took Minecraft a weekend to do
what Sonic 3 did in two months. That is a big deal, which is and
so I I feel like all of the negativity coming from it has
been cancelled out because all of the Minecraft like Minecraft
(01:14:03):
fans are like, no, this is just fun.
It's stupid, it's ridiculous. Just enjoy it.
Like I'm just happy to be here for a Minecraft movie like in
theaters. That's my general thoughts that.
Would that was really long for general thoughts.
That's my, that's my spiel because I knew that once you
(01:14:26):
started, the tone would shift. So the.
Tone's about to shift. Yeah, I'm, I'm ready.
I've been emotionally prepared. Everyone in.
The audience knows the the tone is going to shift when I'm
quiet. For that long.
OK, so since the first trailer, I've been very openly critical
(01:14:52):
of this movie. But then I kind of changed my
tune a little bit. When they released that second
trailer, I was like, OK, maybe this won't be that bad.
Like I think it was like, however they put together that
first trailer just didn't work right.
Just didn't didn't work, didn't hit.
And then the second trailer hit and I was like, OK, maybe
that'll be good. And then like all the memes come
out of like Flint and steel chicken Jackie Flint and steel
(01:15:14):
like the leather chicken Jackie like, and the memes kind of got
me sucked up to go see it and Enderpur.
I will say I did go get the the Minecraft meal at McDonald's
yesterday before going to see the movie.
I tried the nether flame sauce. A little too spicy for me.
(01:15:34):
And it was great. It was.
And that was more about the experience than anything else.
Like it was just McDonald's foodin a Minecraft box.
But. Of course it was.
It was the experience, right? So I went and saw the movie with
my sister last night and I, I think I'm indifferent on this
(01:15:57):
movie. I can't bring myself to say that
I liked it, yeah, because that would be giving it too much
credit. But I also don't have enough
energy to say that I hate it. Right.
Because so going into it I wouldlike.
I also love that they speed ran like half of their meme lines in
(01:16:19):
the first 3 minutes. It was like as a child I yearn
for the mines and then the overworld.
Flint and steel. The Nether Flint.
And steel the nether. My favorite.
The most underrated one in my mind is Pink House.
I think that is so funny. So.
Pink. House.
They kind of like just bed ran through it and then we stopped
(01:16:44):
doing Minecraft for like 20 minutes and I was like, Oh yeah,
that's an odd choice and I know it.
So that we can get established to the like main 4 characters.
And I will say I did really likethe dynamic and the story of
what was it. Hank and Natalie were the two
(01:17:04):
siblings. I found that was really
endearing and I think it was a little underdeveloped.
And. A little rush I agree with.
That in. Terms of like the like in terms
of like how that conflict got resolved because she was like,
oh, well, you know, maybe you belong here because you're
weird. And then they didn't talk for
like 45 minutes. And then it was like, well,
(01:17:28):
there was also a guide and there.
Was a really good dynamic of shewas and I really appreciate it.
She was kind of like, I just wish I could be a kid, yeah.
And it kind of like, I think that they were really hitting
the older Minecraft fans pretty hard there when it was like, Oh
my gosh, me too. Yeah.
(01:17:50):
So. We were watching it and there
was like it was fun like when they were at the, you know, the
storage auction, like Dan TDM was there as like one of the
storage people and they had the techno blade reference, which I
thought was really nice that. Was really special.
And then, like Jeb was the waiter at the.
Yes, at the dinner. Like there was stuff that I like
(01:18:12):
a point and like items and stuffand I thought that was cool.
But then I got to the end of themovie and I started comparing it
to other video game movies. I didn't compare it to other
movies. I compared it to other video
game movies. And I like how you said that you
felt so respected and honored asa as a movie goer and like a
Minecraft fan. I feel completely the opposite.
(01:18:33):
I feel like they desecrated thisgame that I grew up with.
What? Because I spent half the movie
being like, you can't do that inMinecraft, That's not how that
works. Like what?
You can't make a tater tot launcher bro OK and the books of
swiftness are not in vanilla Minecraft.
(01:18:53):
Those are in Minecraft dungeons or whatever that other Minecraft
spin off is. You can't equipment on a iron
golem either OK. And like, honestly, I didn't
like that they leaned into the piglens from the Nether.
I was like, that's not what the Nether is the.
Nether, but you also have to think about, but think about and
(01:19:15):
the. Wither where was the ender
dragon bro? OK.
That was my thing was, I said. I really wish that the Nether
could have been the the blazes, the wither skeletons, the
fortress, that's what. I'm saying.
Gasts. But think about the modern
trajectory of Minecraft and where they've been and what
Mojang has been doing with the game the last few years.
(01:19:39):
This is pretty spot on with whatthey've been doing and.
Maybe that's why I don't like it, because I don't like what
Mojang has been doing with the game, no?
And I don't either I but I feel like it I went, I went in fully
expecting this to be the modern Minecraft take because I was
like, this isn't the Minecraft Igrew up with.
And that's going to that's just going to be what it is because
(01:19:59):
it has to be the modern version.I.
Think another problem was if I'mso, like, if I'm so disconnected
from the movie that I'm nitpicking what you can and
can't do in the video game, you lost me somewhere.
Yeah, like so. And there was some other like
fringe stuff of like the minecarts don't move when
(01:20:23):
they're not on. The Redstone minecarts work.
They have some forward trajectory even when you're not
on the red stuff. Yeah, but.
They're not enough to. Escape Creepers.
What was her name like? The the knitterbocker?
The the what? The the piglin?
The real estate lady? No.
(01:20:43):
Oh, the witch lady. Yeah, the the witch lady, Yeah,
she. Was like ha ha iron golems don't
attack unless provoked. I'm like that is incorrect.
Iron Golems will attack any hostile mob, even regardless of
whether or not they attack you first.
So those Iron Golems should havejust gone crazy.
(01:21:04):
But I don't know. I think when she was like, Oh
yeah, we have this ultimate likemonster, I was like, Oh my gosh,
are they about to pull out the wither?
Like. Just like set the wither loose
and like, that's the big final. No, it was just like this weird
genetically altered piglin. And I was like, OK, I mean, it's
fine. Like, I don't know, I in
(01:21:29):
comparing it to other video gamemovies, right?
Like even though I'm not a huge Sonic fan, I left all three
Sonic movies feeling like I got a really good movie and it was
respectful to the Sonic lore while also doing its own thing.
And you can kind of say the sameabout the Mario movie, even
(01:21:50):
though the Mario movie kind of like I feel like the Mario movie
is a middle ground between whereMinecraft is AT and where Sonic
is AT because it didn't lean so far into, you know, everything.
We're like Minecraft had to say,you know, Flint and steal the
nether the over. Like it had to explain
everything to you. Whereas the Mario movie was
(01:22:11):
like, oh, you know, that's a mini mushroom.
You know, that's a cat power up.You know, that's a question
mark, blah. Like, you know, this is Mario
Kart. And then Sonic didn't really do
that as much, if at all it. Was just like, it was just kind
of like a movie. With Sonic like however they
would do that and I think the Minecraft movie to me felt like
(01:22:32):
a movie that they made and then tried to figure out how they
could fit Minecraft into it. Like it was a pre-existing
skeleton that they then put a Minecraft body over instead of
trying to take like. Have you seen the original
concept art for this movie? And like what it was originally
supposed to be was one person getting brought into the
(01:22:54):
overworld and there was a Steve who lived there.
And it was going on this quest to get to the end so that you
could send this person home. And it was more of like a how
can we tell an original story inthe world of Minecraft instead
of how can we bring Minecraft into the real world?
(01:23:14):
Which is interesting because they I I see the point where
Minecraft like the world was almost like in it was almost
like they justified A weaker story by letting the world be
the story. Which was a problem and I've.
(01:23:36):
Been thinking about, I thought about this too, where I was
like, why do we feel the need tojust I think that this is a very
difficult thing with video game movies is video games are
immersive and they build fantastical worlds, but we feel
the need to explain them like Jumanji couldn't just be in
(01:23:56):
Jumanji. They had to get sucked into a
game or Minecraft couldn't just be Minecraft like they had to
get sucked into this world. When I would have loved to see a
version of this movie where we didn't we didn't get sucked in
where it's just this is just theworld.
Yeah, this is the Minecraft movie.
(01:24:17):
You don't have to justify to me why the Minecraft world exists.
It's just there. It's a movie.
I'm suspending my disbelief to to do that.
So I I definitely see that point.
And I and I did have that thought too.
Was, I thought, what? What?
Was the alternative cut of this movie where it we didn't feel
(01:24:38):
the need to explain things? Because I think that all the
memes where he, you know, he just has to announce everything.
It's like Flint and steel, the nether, overworld chicken, like
all this stuff explaining to theaudience things that the
audience knows. I definitely read that as a
joke. To me, I was like, they're doing
this because it's funny. Like they know that the audience
(01:25:00):
knows it's an ender Pearl. It's the Minecraft movie.
You're not going to the Minecraft movie because you're
not knowing what an ender Pearl is, right?
You're like, what the heck is that?
Why did it teleport him? I definitely read that as a
joke. I thought it was funny, and I
don't know if that's how it was meant to be read or if
(01:25:21):
essentially, I don't know who's right.
Like, I don't know if they wrotethat to be funny or if they
wrote that genuinely thinking they needed to explain it,
right. So I don't know.
And I think now that it's a meme, they're going to say that
it was intentional. Can I?
Say, I did not like Jack Black'sperformance in this movie.
(01:25:42):
Really. I I don't know, I think this is
like one of the most lackluster performances I've seen Jack
Black in. Maybe it's because I couldn't
take it seriously because I had like, I have this image of Steve
in my head and it's not Jack Black.
It's not like Steve to me is notthis overweight.
Like I work a boring office deskjob.
(01:26:03):
I just wanted to go mine as a kid.
He's like this guy who theoretically gets stuck in this
world or just like spawns into this world and then has to just
live and that and that's it. So for them to be like, well,
he's just a boring guy who was really creative.
(01:26:23):
And now like the I think it would have been better if they
didn't make Jack Black Steve. If they would have just made him
another like original character like the other four, it probably
would have been fine. But I think because they were
trying to place like almost fit him into the box.
Right. And of Steve, they gave.
Themselves such like a sneaky out at the very beginning of the
(01:26:45):
movie where he's like, this is Minecraft.
There are millions and billions of different stories to be told
and this is mine. And that was like their whole
like, well, everyone, like everyMinecraft world has its own
story and like everyone has their own thing.
And I'm like, no, I understand that.
But if you're making a movie, right?
This is it. Sonic picked a narrative.
(01:27:07):
Mario picked a narrative. Uncharted, even though it wasn't
super great, picked a narrative. You have.
If you're going to make a movie you have to pick a narrative and
go with him. Not be like well there's
millions of other ways this could have gone.
Implying that there's millions of other versions of this movie
that are better than the one I just watched.
(01:27:28):
Yeah. So I never read that though,
like I didn't read into that. I didn't think about it.
And I think that so much of my enjoyment and what I'm what I'm
picking up is that so much of myenjoyment from this movie was my
separation was I was very much like, I went into this movie
thinking this is not going to belike the game.
(01:27:50):
It's going to be a combination of all of the Minecraft things
like dungeons and story mode andall the all the things.
And it's not going to be like, Iwas just like, I went in with
completely open hands and I was like, let's just see what
happens. And in my head I was like, this
isn't going to, it's not going to be like the game at all.
(01:28:15):
But I think that my enjoyment ofthe movie comes more out of the
style where I would argue, like you said, like it felt more like
they had a story and had to shove Minecraft into it.
And then they had Jack Black andkind of had to shove Steve into
him to like make it work. Where I genuinely like felt like
(01:28:36):
Jared Hess as a director, like had a creative vision in a
creative, like he had an actual style, which is what I cannot
say for movies like the Mario movie or I can't say that for
like Five Nights at Freddy's. I disagree with you.
Where I'm like where I don't feel like it has any sauce where
like I. Feel like the Mario The Mine has
(01:28:57):
way more sauce than the Minecraft movie.
See, I just don't. OK, here's the thing though, if
you're going to adapt a video game, right?
If you're going to make a video game movie, you have to be
faithful to the thing you're adapting and that and that
that's that's even like outside of video games, like if you're
going to adapt a book, right? People complain when the book
(01:29:18):
like The Hunger Games, the, the Mockingjay Part 2 didn't match
the end of Mockingjay and everyone got upset because
you're not faithfully adapting the book.
We see this with anime and mangaall the time.
So I feel like the Mario movie in a like the Mario movie was
more faithful to the Mario franchise than the Minecraft
movie was to the Minecraft franchise.
Even bringing in story mode, dungeons, whatever that other
(01:29:41):
one was that they tried to launch that I don't even
remember the name. And like bedrock, Java,
whatever. Like I just feel like it was not
as faithful to those games as itcould have been.
And I think what's missing I. Agree.
And I understand like they kind of have to placate to the more
(01:30:01):
modern Minecraft, but even modern Minecraft still has the
wither, the ender dragon. Like, I don't know, I I just
feel like they could have changed the trajectory of this
movie and it would have been better if it's like the only way
for them to get home is to go fight the ender dragon, right,
right. Or to fight the wither and get
(01:30:22):
the nether star and it opens like the portal thing and the
fact that the highest thing theywent up to was a woodland
mansion. I'm like, OK, so the one of two
possibilities here, 1, you didn't want to like fully commit
or two, you're saving that otherstuff for a sequel, which of
(01:30:44):
course we got the post credit scene with Alex and like that
opens the door for a sequel. But I'm like, yeah.
Here's my here's my other thing though, is the way that he
that's that's why he set it up in the beginning as like there's
so many ways this could have gone.
This is just what happened. I think about how many Minecraft
(01:31:06):
worlds I've had where I never got to the wither, I never got
to the end. I never like all that stuff.
And I definitely understand the the sentiment of there is a
there is kind of a standard progression of how a Minecraft
world plays out and it's over world to end.
It's literally called. The end and the credits.
(01:31:28):
And there is after you beat. The end ender dragon right?
And there is a there is a natural progression to that that
I could have seen being a very good story.
But I also in a way kind of appreciated that they didn't lay
out all the cards on the table to where like the Mario movie.
(01:31:49):
I felt like I was like, OK, we've done all of the Mario
things. Like we got a little too excited
and showed all of the Mario things.
We showed Smash, we showed MarioKart, we showed the levels, we
showed the king, like, we showedeverything.
So, like, what's there to do now?
Yeah, where I feel like. And you know, you don't create
$300 million in one weekend without considering a sequel.
(01:32:13):
We also know Warner Brothers is the most corrupt studio.
They're also. Strapped for cash right now, so
anything that brings up money. Literally all right.
Do that. We're like, I would go see
another Minecraft movie. And then maybe there's the
potential that we get to show some more of those cards and we
get to like, do we get to keep on revealing that stuff where I
(01:32:37):
didn't feel like it had to show all of that stuff because that's
not how every Minecraft world plays out.
Even though that is the standardprogression of the story for
Minecraft, that's not how every world goes.
And I was just kind of like, oh,that made sense to me, though
the continuity error that kind of like stuck in my mind was
(01:32:58):
that this man had three Elatras. He had three Elatras, and he was
very protective. Oh.
Well, yeah, he did have three because he said I thought he
said. He had three, so he was very
possessive of his one ender Pearl.
For someone that has been to theend long enough to have three
(01:33:20):
Electras, yeah. Long enough to find three
different end cities, right? To find the Electra like right
so I think that the ender dragonwhich means that it was
something we could have seen himdo he.
Which means he should have been able to go home.
And that's kind of the part thatI was like, I don't think that
(01:33:42):
was super thought through. But also, like I said, like I
was like, well, the Minecraft movie is not going to be just
like the Minecraft game. I'm going to suspend my
disbelief because I think that this is a fun movie and like,
maybe that's a terrible way to consume media.
And like I'm giving them way toomuch credit.
(01:34:02):
And I'm like, maybe I should be a little more critical of them.
I just felt like I genuinely felt like grateful to be there.
Like I felt like this is a movieI wanted since I was like 8
years old. And I was like, this is just
like, I've waited for this moviefor over 10 years.
Like, I'm just going to soak it in and like, appreciate it for
(01:34:23):
what it is because the alternative is I hate the movie
I've waited for for 12 years. See.
And I think that's the problem is it's not even I hate the
movie I waited 10 years for. I'm just disappointed.
Right. Because I've watched this movie
go through development hell for the last 10 years and heard the,
you know, like 3 or 4 different versions.
And it's kind of like The Rise of Skywalker where I'm like.
(01:34:45):
Yeah, I. Wanted I want the other version
of this movie. Like so can I ask what is your
ideal version of the Minecraft movie my?
Ideal version of the Minecraft movie is not even a live action
movie. It's an animated movie.
Because I think that also is what threw me off was it's five
people in a world that is not mine.
(01:35:08):
Like is not people. Even if they did, like you could
do like a hybrid live action animation and like when they go
through the portal, they all become like squares, like they
all look like Minecraft skins. And that's while they're in the
overworld. And then when they go back, they
look normal. Like I think that would have
helped bridge that gap a little more.
(01:35:30):
But it's just weird that you like take these people and you
and you drop them in and that's just what they look like and
nothing changes to match that. That's.
Where the suspension of disbelief kicks in for me is I'm
like, no, that makes sense. You can.
Only suspend your disbelief so far and you're already making me
suspended. That's.
What you think you? You're already making me suspend
(01:35:53):
my disbelief by not being accurate to the game in every
way shape or form. Which is something people talk
about in the Mario movie where like, well, two people can't do
the star at the same time. If you get hit by the mini
mushroom, you die. You don't go back to normal
size. Like those continuity errors and
like, not lining up and suspension of disbelief for the
(01:36:14):
sake of the plot, right? That bothered people.
It didn't bother me because I'm like, it's whatever.
Like we'll just let it have fun.But the fact that Minecraft had
to keep doing that throughout the movie over and over and over
and over and over again is different.
It's one thing if you do it likeonce or twice.
It's another thing to do it like10 plus times to try and like
(01:36:39):
justify and make it work. I think that makes sense.
Like if you if you are begging the audience to bend over
backwards for the story to make sense and be good, then it's
probably not good. Also maybe this is just me
complaining for the sake of complaining.
I hate what they did with the enderman, I really do.
I hate that they gave the enderman like mind melting
powers because it's not what they do in the game.
(01:37:01):
No that's no no no no no no. That was the best.
Scene in the movie, that was thebest scene in the movie.
When he was talking, he was in The Enderman and we got the
Herobrine cameo yeah, no, you can.
I think that was the best scene in the movie.
I. Understand that, but like in the
game The Enderman. Oh my gosh.
Relatively peaceful if you don'tlook them in the eye and like
(01:37:25):
any if you looked him in the eyethey didn't try to kill you.
They don't like I. Will not stand for this but in
the game slammer any longer. It's a.
Movie. In the thing like.
Oh my God, no. You.
Can sit here and say it's a movie all you want, but if
you're gonna make a Minecraft movie, there's very basic rules
you have to follow that include adapting the game you're naming
(01:37:50):
the movie. After.
That's all I'm saying. I would have had.
That dude. You know I'm going to be this
critical about the Zelda movie when it comes out in two years.
Oh, for. Sure, like.
And I was this critical about the Mario movie to a certain
extent, like, and I can't be as much so with like Sonic or
Uncharted because I'm not as into those games, right?
(01:38:11):
And even like five nights at Friday, and I think in the case
of five nights at Freddy's, they, it feels like at least
from what we've heard them say, they're taking a lot of the
feedback from that and they're incorporating it into the second
one. But I don't feel like they're
going to do that with Minecraft.I think they're going to see
because they. Realize.
And they're going to see the money that can be made, and
(01:38:32):
they're not going to change anything, and they're not going
to listen to constructive criticism.
And I think that is also a difference between like big
studio Warner Bros and, you know, small budget Blumhouse
Five Nights at Freddy's movie, right?
Like the smaller studio is more likely to listen to the people
who are giving them money, whereas Warner Bros can just
keep pumping out Minecraft movies till the end of time.
(01:38:53):
And right, not really like care per SE about.
Right. You know, the construct, like
even the constructive criticism,it goes into it.
So I don't know, I could, I could sit here and go, but the
game all day. And I think that's just, that's
just something that sticks with me and I and I.
(01:39:13):
Think that's a valid critique? I really do think that's a valid
critique. I had a completely different
viewing experience because I wasso prepared to be like, it's
going to be OK because in my mind, I was like, it's not going
to be perfect. It's not going to be, you know,
it's not going to live up to thestandard that we've wanted it to
(01:39:35):
be. And so I may as well just enjoy
it for what it is. And that's kind of where I'm at
is I'm like, this is not, you know, Oscar worthy filmmaking,
but their goal to make a fun movie about Minecraft was
achieved. Like, I had a great time.
Like I just, I just like keep going back to Jennifer Coolidge,
like hitting the villager with her Jeep Grand Cherokee.
(01:39:58):
And I'm like, that is so ridiculous.
And I just my favorite joke in the whole movie is the guy's
like, oh, is he finished? He goes, I actually think he's
Swedish. I was just like, what am I?
Watching. Right now, here's.
Here's. My thing.
And this is kind of how I feel about, and this is going to be a
(01:40:19):
weird comparison, it's kind of how I feel about cars as a
franchise. These, like, just go with me on
the analogy here. Yeah, in Toy Story, it makes
sense narratively that they're toys because there's a story to
be told there. But with cars, narratively, you
(01:40:40):
could switch it to being humans who drive cars and tell the
exact same story and nothing would change.
So the medium format doesn't matter.
The Minecraft movie, I feel likeMinecraft is not the integral
part of that movie. You could switch Minecraft out
for anything. You could interchange it for any
other game or IP or anything andtell the same story and get all
(01:41:04):
of the same beats across. And there was there wasn't like
a defining thing that was like, This is why it has to be
Minecraft instead of Terraria orRoblox or like any other game
that's similar to Minecraft thatinspires creativity.
And like I did appreciate, you know, I'm here, I'll, I'll label
(01:41:27):
some praise here. I did.
Appreciate the very like pro creativity messaging of like,
well, even though like the real world is kind of bland and
boring, like you can make it creative and make it fun and
like do all these things and like I think that's great.
I think the Lego movie does a better theme about creativity
(01:41:47):
than the Minecraft movie. And even like the Lego movie,
like there's a key theme of like, OK, it's very important
that they these are Lego. Like Lego is the medium with
Minecraft, you could stick anything creative in there and
(01:42:07):
it would still get all of the same beats across.
So it doesn't. And that's why I said like it
feels like a story that was written with, like it's a story
skeleton with a Minecraft body put on it because you could RIP
off the skin, as weird as that sounds.
You can RIP off the skin, put a different skin on there and and.
It'd be fine it. Could be the Uncharted movie and
it's all about creativity I think.
That's AI think that's a valid critique, I really do.
(01:42:31):
My bigger core issue is it didn't feel like it needed to be
Minecraft, it was just. How?
Can we fit Minecraft in here? And like, I want to be so real.
When he put the diamond armor on, I almost walked out.
I was like, this looks stupid. Like this?
Is why they should have all beensquares because they didn't
(01:42:53):
change anything else in the world to fit the fact that these
are real people. That's why I'm like, if they
made them look like skins it would have even just that right?
If you took them and said OK, you're all going to look like
Minecraft skins while you're in the over world, that would have
helped bridge that narrative gapof like, OK, well here's why it
(01:43:16):
needs to be Minecraft. Here's.
Why they have to be in this world?
Because they fit now. And like, you could have the
whole story of Hank being like, Oh my gosh, do I fit in here
now? Because I look like the rest of
the world and I like, I fit in. And you can have that narrative
of like, well, you don't necessarily have to look like
(01:43:37):
everything around you to fit in.It's OK to stand out.
And then you can go back to the real world and you can like tie
that all in. You see what I'm saying?
Like I. Don't know, it just feels like a
little more. Groundwork could have been done
there. I think that's a fair critique.
I really. Do so I don't know.
I gave it 2 1/2 stars on letterbox in it.
I mean, I've only seen two movies this year.
So it's, you know, it's still under dog man.
(01:44:00):
Dog Man was peaked, though. Dog Man was.
Incredible. That was a great movie.
So. Yeah, Minecraft movie not.
I mean, I could squabble, I could talk about this for hours,
but we're going over our time. So unless you have anything else
to add, No, I'm good. I think.
I think we've thoroughly coveredtwo large topics today.
(01:44:21):
So we did good. We did good.
I liked today. I think we can agree to
disagree. I'm going.
To add it to the list I. Will be I will be buying a
Minecraft movie on Blu-ray. The 2nd that it comes out.
For. Pre-order already.
Yeah, I need, I saw. That I was like, damn, all
right, this movie's been. Out for a week tag.
I mean, hey, at least they're putting it on physical.
(01:44:42):
That's. No, literally.
