midnight on December 31st?
Norah (00:07):
I did not,
Dad (00:10):
He wanted to make a New
Year's toast.
Do you get
Norah (00:16):
unfortunately.
you have?
Dad (00:18):
eat cuz Cuz you like eat
toast for breakfast.
Norah (00:21):
got it.
Dad (00:21):
So it's like a New year's
toast cuz it was
Norah (00:23):
Yep.
Dad (00:25):
What are we gonna talk,
what are we gonna talk about
Norah (00:27):
That's a great question.
What are we gonna talk aboutthis week?
Dad (00:31):
Should we maybe, maybe we
should, maybe we should just
kind of, since it's been a fewweeks, maybe we should just kind
of catch up, talk about our, ourholiday and our New Year's.
How's that?
How's that work for you?
Awesome.
Here we go.
Theme music.
(00:57):

Norah (01:07):
much school tomorrow.
Dad (01:10):
You are Nora.
Yeah.
You are at the end of yourmarathon if I'm doing the math
right.
It's a seven 17 day break.
Is that right?
Norah (01:21):
Wish it was longer.
Dad (01:22):
If you include like the
Norah (01:23):
it was shorter.
Dad (01:24):
is, is, is that right?
You wish it, you wish it was
Norah (01:27):
I wish it was shorter.
I wish school started out just
Dad (01:31):
and shorter.
Norah (01:32):
o'clock and then I
wouldn't need a break.
I'd be happy
Dad (01:38):
Oh, because you, because
you like your sleep.
Norah (01:41):
I think most people do.
I don't think that's an uncommonthing.
Dad (01:44):
So back to school.
Well, by the time this drops, you'll be back in school.
So back to school on Tuesdayafter a long a a long, 17 days
off.
Did you enjoy your break?
Norah (01:56):
I did enjoy break.
Dad (01:58):
We do have mock trial stuff
coming off.
I mean, you're busy when you goback between mock trial and
musical.
The new musical is starting andyou're what?
You're in the pit and you're inthe cho.
Norah (02:07):
I get to be on the stage
playing guitar.
I'm very excited.
Dad (02:11):
Yeah, and mock trials and,
and mock trials coming up and,
and then just generally justback to school with with just
school stuff.
Did you did you enjoy your 17days off?
Norah (02:21):
I.
Dad (02:22):
So give me, I don't know.
Give me like your top threehighlights of your, of your
winter
Norah (02:32):
We didn't really do much
Dad (02:33):
do anything super exciting.
We just kinda, we just kind oflaid, we just kind of laid
around the house.
But gimme your, gimme.
Like when you look back, gimmelike the three things that stick
out in your mind as like thethree
Norah (02:44):
Oh, I feel bad though,
cuz most of them are gonna
include just Ryan
Dad (02:50):
Oh, well
Norah (02:50):
I really liked art when
we went out for our anniversary.
That was really fun.
Dad (02:55):
How many, how, how, what,
what anniversary was this?
Two weeks.
Two months.
Two decades.
Two years.
Jesus.
Norah (03:06):
time
Dad (03:08):
Okay, so you, so you went
out, so you went out for your
anniversary your two yearanniversary.
Give me, give me highlightnumber two.
Norah (03:16):
I liked, oh, that was
Thanksgiving.
Nevermind.
Have we done one since?
Yeah, we did one sinceThanksgiving winter break.
I liked looking at
Dad (03:29):
I stumped you.
Norah (03:30):
everyone.
Dad (03:33):
That was fun.
We did that on Christmas Eve.
We always spend a night drivingaround looking Christmas lights.
We did that on Christmas Evethis year.
That was, we got our annualStarbucks and then drove around
and looked at, looked at, and weget Starbucks more than once a
year, but we, our annual visitto Starbucks slash look at
Christmas lights all at the
Norah (03:49):
and this year we did it
on
Dad (03:51):
All right.
That's two
Norah (03:53):
which you normally don't
Dad (03:54):
on.
I know.
Norah (03:55):
And I enjoyed.
Dad (03:57):
And then give me, give me
number
Norah (03:58):
New Year's Eve.
I enjoyed hanging out withRyan's family.
Oh.
Plus playing my show that like, just like New Year's weekend
Dad (04:07):
on New Year's Eve and
playing your show on the 30th.
Norah (04:13):
And watching
Dad (04:14):
All right.
Norah (04:15):
I love hockey fights.
Dad (04:18):
you were baptized in the
world of hockey fights, albeit
like it was a minor leaguehockey fight, so I'm not sure
that
Norah (04:23):
It was pretty epic
Dad (04:25):
What, what made the hockey
fight so
Norah (04:27):
guys stole the other
team's helmet and threw it into
the crowd.
That's such a power move.
Dad (04:34):
That's typically not
allowed.
They typically don't like itwhen players throw things,
Norah (04:40):
Oh, they, no, they were
not a fan of it.
He got
Dad (04:42):
Into the, into, in, into
the crowd.
Yeah.
That is usually yeah.
That leads to like fans gettingconcussions or at least like
spilling their beers.
They get out of the way and theydon't, the teams typically don't
like when players
Norah (04:57):
Well, this player did it
and it was awesome.
Dad (05:00):
There was a famous hockey
fight back in Seventies where it
was like a bench clearing, likebo all the benches cleared and
everybody came onto the ice andeveryone was fighting.
And then the fight actually wentinto the stands.
The players climbed over theboards, jumped into the stands
and started fighting.
Like in the stands, I think likethe, one of the players like
assaulted one of the fans whowas giving him a
Norah (05:22):
that doesn't sound very
Dad (05:24):
be the most famous.
It might be the, well, not, notfor the fan, it might be the
most famous hockey fight of alltime.
But you should, you should, ah,
Norah (05:32):
I bet it was in Philly
Dad (05:34):
it was, no, it wasn't in
Philadelphia.
I wanna say it was the TorontoMaple Leafs and the New York
Rangers.
But I could totally be makingthat up.
That's what my brain tells me.
But I could totally be
Norah (05:48):
someone will fact check
you.
Dad (05:51):
But if you well, yeah, I
mean the internet can fact check
me, but you should, you shouldgo on YouTube and just search
for famous hockey fights andjust watch in all their glory.
The fights of just guys.
Yeah, the, it's not as bad as itused to be.
They used to, like, there usedto be guys that were getting in
like multiple fights per game, and that's all they did.
They like, they were like on theteam just to have fights.
(06:14):
They
Norah (06:14):
And those are
Dad (06:15):
they don't really do that
anymore.
They're trying.
They were tr no.
Well, they, they were the mostentertaining players.
They're trying to discourage thehockey fights.
Now, the, the hockey, they don'tthink fighting is as good for
the games.
And them try, they, they try todiscourage it even though the
fans including apparently 16year old girls like
Norah (06:32):
only reason I went to the
game.
Yeah, no, and I think the same
Dad (06:38):
There you
Norah (06:38):
and I were talking about
it cause he doesn't like hockey
besides the fights either
Dad (06:42):
Hockey's a beautiful
Norah (06:44):
when there's fights,
Dad (06:46):
Noah you started wording
Norah (06:50):
that's the, that's the
only time in the game I
understood what was going on.
It moves too fast.
Dad (06:57):
It does move.
Hockey does move really, really, really fast.
And if you don't have a reallyfirm understanding of the rules
it moves too fast to reallyfollow what's going on that I
agree with you, but I'm happy tosit down with you and watch a
hockey game and explain therules to
Norah (07:09):
but that takes too long.
I'd rather just be oblivious andenjoy the parts.
Dad (07:14):
and just, and just enjoy
the fights
Norah (07:17):
I enjoy the simple things
in life.
Dad (07:22):
Oh man.
What about changing topics fromhockey fights?
How about Christmas gifts.
What are your, what, what?
Not to make Christmas
Norah (07:32):
Well, it is
Dad (07:33):
but what, what, what gift,
what, but what gifts stand out
in your, like, in your brain aslike your, the favorite of the
gifts that you, either, that yougave or received.
We talked last time aboutfavorite gifts if you, that we g
given or received in the past.
What about this Christmas?
What's the favorite gift thatyou either gave or received for
Norah (07:52):
I was a big fan of, Hmm.
I'm trying to think of thegifts.
I.
I really like the sweatshirtthat I gave Ryan
Dad (08:03):
And what was what, what
made that sweatshirt so special?
Norah (08:06):
here, so it was like an
extra Christmas
Dad (08:08):
since, since nobody
listening can either say it or
knows what, or knows what you'retalking about.
What's that?
Norah (08:12):
with the frog on, wearing
a top hat.
It says Man's best friend and Ithought it was.
And Ryan really likes it andlike hasn't taken it off since I
gave it to them.
So I liked that.
And my favorite present I'vereceived was probably, I really
liked the sea turtle I got,
Dad (08:29):
The sea turtle was, the sea
turtle was pretty darn cool.
Norah (08:32):
For the listeners, I will
explain.
So it's this company that they, you can adopt a sea turtle and
the money that
Dad (08:42):
You did, not just you, you,
we, we did
Norah (08:44):
No, the money that you
pay, like that you give to the
company, goes to an actual seaturtle and then you received a
stuffed animal.
Sea turtle.
But if you like tap the stuffedanimal with your phone, it'll
send you the sea turtle that themoney went to.
So yeah, I have a little, littlepet sea turtle just roaming
(09:05):
around.
Dad (09:07):
Can you track it?
Does it give you like a map ofwhere the sea turtle actually is
at the moment?
Norah (09:13):
Let me go tap my sea
turtle.
I will be right back.
Dad (09:16):
if it was, if it was just
like a, if it was just like a
picture of the sea turtle, what's his name?
Mike Leonardo Michelangelo.
Leonardo, I don't know if it wasjust a picture of Leonardo or a
video of Leonardo or they giveyou a map.
Norah (09:29):
tap him and see what's on
the website.
Dad (09:31):
they give you, if, if they
give you a map that shows you
like exactly where in the worldthis, this sea turtle is.
Norah (09:38):
phone is up to him.
I don't really understand howtapping things work though.
Dad (09:43):
N nfc nearfield
communication.
Norah (09:45):
to me.
Okay, Sam, the sea turtle.
Dad (09:50):
your sea turtle your, your
sea turtle emits some kind of
frequency that your phone, thatyour phone?
No, oh.
Norah (09:58):
though?
Does it matter where?
Dad (10:01):
I, I, I don't know the
answer to that question.
It's not my sea turtle.
Norah (10:05):
Well, I've visited the
website before, so maybe I just
go to my history.
Dad (10:11):
the world.
The world will never know if youget a map showing where Leonardo
the sea
Norah (10:17):
upsetting.
Dad (10:17):
or it's just a picture of a
random turtle.
That may or may not be theturtle that you're actually
tracking
Norah (10:23):
go to my history?
Yeah.
Dad (10:26):
because they could really
just show you a picture of like
Norah (10:28):
turtle,
Dad (10:29):
and you would have, and you
would have no, it could be like
it could take you to theWikipedia page for sea turtle
and you
Norah (10:35):
will be a little
suspicious if they took me to
the
Dad (10:38):
But maybe just ev, maybe it
just goes to the same webpage
for every, maybe everybody'sturtle is named
Norah (10:42):
no, there's a, there's a
couple
Dad (10:44):
and there's just one and
there's just one, and there's
just one turtle that getstracked.
Norah (10:48):
hope not.
Dad (10:51):
How awful would that
Norah (10:52):
sad.
Dad (10:53):
That would be like a
Norah (10:54):
Oh, okay.
I got it.
My sea
Dad (10:57):
Oh.
Norah (10:58):
I don't, there you go.
Dad (11:00):
So now the question of the
hour is, is there a map or is it
just picture of
Norah (11:06):
reading more and
supporting.
He is turtle patient 1 78
Dad (11:13):
Oh.
Norah (11:14):
Oh Dad, he has, he ha his
birthday is the 14th of
February.
Dad (11:18):
Oh, the day after mine.
How cool.
We should have a birthday partyfor Leonardo
Norah (11:23):
and he's a baby.
He was born he was just bornlast year.
His birthday's
Dad (11:28):
Oh well he has a long life
ahead of him cuz sea turtles
Norah (11:31):
Oh, and then there's a
list of everyone that adopted
him.
No.
There's a bunch of people whoare taking care of him.
Dad (11:37):
This gets, this gets much
less
Norah (11:39):
No, I like it.
Did, is it under my name or yourguys'?
Dad (11:43):
It's under, I don't think
it's under anybody's.
Norah (11:45):
okay.
Dad (11:46):
Maybe, maybe, maybe you
have to register your turtle so
your name shows up.
Maybe you should have, maybe youshould have investigated this
more.
Norah (11:52):
Oh, he was sick and now
he's able to eat.
Dad (11:56):
Well, yay for Leonardo.
Norah (11:59):
but he's better now.
Dad (12:00):
so is, so, but he's
actually out in the wild, like
in the ocean somewhere.
Or is it a zoo?
Do we even know?
Norah (12:07):
taken care of right now
cuz he was sick.
Dad (12:11):
Okay.
Norah (12:12):
Okay.
Yes.
His last update is so you getupdates every week of how he's
doing.
There is no change in hiscondition.
He continues to eat and dive, but is not using his remaining
front flipper.
Dad (12:23):
Okay.
Norah (12:24):
I didn't log in, it's not
showing that I adopted him and
it's asking if I should adopthim, that I already did.
Dad (12:31):
oh, so you need, so you
need to log in.
All right, well
Norah (12:35):
yes, I will.
Dad (12:35):
of that after af after the
show.
So an anything an anything elsestick out in your brain about
Norah (12:42):
It was fun.
Dad (12:43):
It was
Norah (12:44):
I like Christmas.
Dad (12:47):
Okay, so here, here's,
here's my n here's my next
question for you.
I was gonna ask you about NewYear's resolutions, but I'm not
gonna do that.
But instead, Yesterday at, wewent over to your aunt and
uncle's for New Year's brunchand you left early cuz you were
tired cause you were out up lateon New Year's Eve and we had to
pick you up early to get tobrunch on New Year's Day.
(13:08):
So you left early, but after youleft your aunt brought out this
bracelet making kit and we allwe, we each picked a word.
That we stamped on like a metalwasher.
It's now on a bracelet that I'mwear, I'm wearing mine, and we
each picked a word that wassupposed to be our, like,
aspirational word for 2023.
(13:29):
It's called the, the, the, thething is called like the, my, my
intent, I think was the name ofthe bracelet.
The kit or whatever, but so weeach stamped a word and we each,
we each picked a word that waslike, gonna be our aspirational
word for 2023.
And I think your aunt wantedeveryone to get, like at the end
(13:49):
of the year or beginning of2024, we were all gonna get back
together.
And then fig, see how we didliving up to that kind of living
up to that word and.
Yeah, so I, I chose, I chosecalm for mine because I wanna
try and be a little calmer in2023.
Try and keep, you know, I wannajust live, live a little, live a
(14:11):
little more calmly throughoutthe year.
And you chose what word?
So I wanna know, I'm curious,and I haven't asked you this,
why you chose the word couragefor your
Norah (14:23):
I'm very timid about
doing things like, even if it's
just small, like whenever Ryanand I get like drinks at like
Dunking Donuts or something, Ialways have them order for me
cuz I just don't like doing it.
So I think just like makingsmall changes like that to just
be.
It's not even being adventurouscuz it's just like ordering
something, but just being morebrave about doing smaller things
Dad (14:50):
and, and yet you have no
issue picking up your guitar and
a microphone and an amp andsinging in front of a huge group
of people.
Yeah, I know.
It's different.
I, I get that.
It's just, I always just findthat so interesting that like,
you don't like picking up thephone to call someone to ask a
question, but you have no issuelike getting up on stage and
singing like this super, likepersonal song that you.
Norah (15:13):
that's all I curious.
Dad (15:15):
I just, I just find it
curious.
Well, good.
I, I wish you I, I wish you luckwith your with your courage as
you move, as you move through2023.
I'm wearing mine and I'm gonnawear it every day, and I'm gonna
look at it when I feel myselfhaving a moment of un calmness.
I'm gonna look at my bracelet tohopefully refocus myself and
calm myself down.
So let me know how I.
(15:38):
How have I been so far for oneday?
Norah (15:41):
I have not you, I mean,
I, I haven't really seen much
today, but you were calm when Isaw you.
Dad (15:47):
Oh, good.
And the, the other, I mean, andthe other resolution is we
joined a gym and we're gonnamake a, a serious concerted
effort to exercise at leastthree days a week over the
course of the year
Norah (15:59):
far.
We joined before
Dad (16:00):
and, and get ourselves.
Norah (16:02):
we, we didn't just join
for the new year,
Dad (16:05):
No, we joined in, we
actually joined Thanksgiving
weekend.
Yeah, black Friday we joined.
Cause they had a sale and yougotta gotta take advantage of
the sales.
Yeah, we joined on Black Fridayand we've been going, mom and I
have going, we started going, you were sick so you couldn't go
right at the beginning.
But mom and I started going.
Shortly after we joined, andwe've been, we've been not bad
about it, but I think the goalis to get there at least three
(16:27):
days a week and then mix in someexercise on the machines we have
at home and, and make exerciseand more healthy living a focus
for 2023.
All right.
Anything else you want to.
Norah (16:42):
Not that I can think of.
Dad (16:45):
All right.
Well, I think we can, I think wecan wrap up another successful
episode of the of the Nora andDad Show.
Nora if people wanna find you ormaybe wanna book you to play a
gig, you already have some gigsbooked for 2023, which is super
which is super exciting.
Where can they where can they.
Norah (17:02):
You can find me at Nora
Marie Music, Nora, with an.
Dad (17:06):
You can find me everywhere.
Not for gigs.
Nobody wants to hear me sing.
Yeah.
At John Hyman all over the placeand we will we'll be back in a
couple of weeks with another newepisode.
Awesome.
Thanks for doing this, Nora.
Norah (17:18):
To another good year,
Dad (17:20):
Right on.
Yeah.
Here's
Norah (17:22):
and then I, and then I
graduate the year after.
Dad (17:25):
Oh, you do graduate?
Well, not this year, next year, year and a half.
High school
Norah (17:30):
semesters tills until I
am out
Dad (17:33):
Then onto bigger and big.
Bigger and bigger and maybebetter things.
All right.
Well anyway, here's the 2023.
We'll see everyone in a coupleweeks.
Love you, Nara.
Norah (17:44):
Love you
