Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello and welcome back to another episode of the
Nurse's Breakroom with JennyLytle RN.
Today I am back from my girlstrip and it was fun and
refreshing and it gave me a lotof time to reflect on some
things.
Last week I talked about thefact that I was struggling in

(00:21):
some areas and I can't say thatI've got it all figured out.
But I do feel much more clarity, much more at peace, and part
of that is, of course, fromhaving time away and having time
with friends and in newsituations and just taking a
step back from day-to-day life.

(00:43):
But a big part of that is alsobecause I did take the time to
actually reflect and I took thetime to work through my becoming
method, because not only is itsomething that works when we're
first trying to figureeverything out, but it also is

(01:04):
great for a reset when we noticethat we start getting off track
.
And in general, I try to checkin with myself more often, but
this has been an incredibly busyseason, which in reality means
it's even more important tocheck in with ourselves.
But I I get off track too, andso that's what happened and I

(01:28):
recognized that and knew that itwas time to kind of start over
and just do a bit of a reset, and so that's what I have been
doing.
It's something that is quickand simple to do once you kind
of have the process down.
And so, if you don't know, Ihad created the Becoming Method

(01:52):
based on my own history and myown issues with burnout and with
stress relief and self-care andtrying to figure out how to
make it all work.
And it was a long, painful, expensive and time consuming and
confusing process to figure outlike, how do I get out of this

(02:15):
feeling that feels so messy andI feel like I don't have any
time for myself or my own needs?
How do I go from that to a lifethat feels more aligned with
who I am and who I want to be?
And so that's what my book,self-care Isn't Selfish the

(02:36):
Compassionate Nurse'sStep-by-Step Guide to
Personalized Stress Reliefthat's what the book goes into.
And so, if you're not familiarwith that, if you haven't goes
into.
And so, if you're not familiarwith that, if you haven't read
that, it is a great way to beable to not only check in with
yourself but to quickly get towhere you want to go.
And so you can grab a freedigital copy of the book on my

(02:59):
website at Jenny Lytlecom.
So, yes, the trip was great, butreally there is nothing like
sleeping in your own bed, right, and so it was wonderful to come
back as well.
But it made me realize how easyit is to just push through

(03:19):
without really checking in withourselves, and that's why, this
week, I created a super shortself-care check-in, because I
was reminded that that'ssomething that we need, and I
want that for you too for you tostop and check in, just pause
and breathe and notice howyou're doing right now.

(03:41):
So it's just a couple ofquestions.
I sent it out to my email listearlier this week and I'm going
to include it in the show notesas well, because I think that
it's something that can be veryhelpful just to pause and take
those one to two minutes toreally figure out what it is

(04:02):
that you need.
What are you missing, how areyou feeling, and then, what is
it that you can do about that?
And so it's looking at how am Ifeeling today, and maybe it's
great and energized or prettygood overall.
Just okay, feeling stressed ortired or struggling a lot right

(04:25):
now, and not only does that letyou know.
Okay, hey, this is how I'mfeeling right now and just
acknowledging that.
But if you are feeling stressedor tired or maybe you feel like
you're really struggling, isthis a one-off you're just kind
of having a bad day or a badcouple of days thing or is this

(04:47):
more of a pattern that maybeneeds some more intentional
intervention?
And if it's a one-off thing andmaybe you didn't sleep well
last night or you've got a bigproject going on being able to
recognize that this is going onand so that's causing me to feel

(05:08):
this way then that allows youto have a little more grace with
yourself.
And sometimes maybe you need toback off in a couple of areas
where you can for a day or two, just to give yourself time to to
rebalance.
And then the next area is whatarea of self care needs a little
extra love right now?

(05:28):
So maybe that's your sleep andrest.
That was something that I hadgotten a little out of balance
with as well.
Part of that comes from workingnights sometimes, and just from
day-to-day life.
I really try to prioritizesleep, but occasionally that
doesn't happen that way.
So is it sleep and rest, ornutrition and hydration?

(05:50):
Maybe it's movement andexercise, or relaxation and
stress relief, connection withothers, or mental health and
mindset.
So thinking about which ofthose areas could use a little
extra time and attention.
And if it's all of those things, then just start small, start

(06:11):
on something that feels likeokay, you know what?
This is something that I caneasily incorporate into my life,
into my day, and it's a goodplace to start.
And that's the next part isjust what is one small thing
that you could do today tosupport yourself, and that could
be something very simple, liketaking a five minute walk or

(06:32):
saying no to extra work or goingto bed earlier.
And then, if you do choose tofill the form out, and really
it's just those quick questions.
But if you would also like apersonalized tip or resource
based upon what you say, thenyou know, then let me, and I'm
happy to get that to you.
So maybe you realize thatyou're doing pretty well, and if

(06:57):
so, that's great.
Or maybe you're really feelingdrained, and that's okay too.
Either way, you're not aloneand you don't need a complete
overhaul.
Just one small step that youcan make to show some kindness
and compassion to yourself.
Thank you so much for takingthis time for you, and remember

(07:22):
to pause and breathe and knowthat you're worth caring for.
Until next time, rememberself-care isn't selfish.
It's essential if we want tocontinue to care for others and
to live our best lives.
I'll see you next week.
