Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello and welcome back to another episode of the
Nurses' Break Room with JennyLytle RN.
This week we are celebratingNurses' Week and I thought that
a fun way to kick that off wouldbe by thinking about why you
became a nurse.
Now, if you're someone who'snot a nurse, then you can still

(00:22):
do this and apply it to yourlife as well and, I think,
really get some benefits fromthat.
Think about why you got intothe work that you did.
We can often get very busy withall of the day-to-day busyness
and the challenges that we face, that we don't always take time

(00:44):
to reflect on why we're doingwhat we're doing, aside from the
money, and thinking about thethings that we loved in the
beginning and that we love now, because chances are, even if
you're feeling incredibly wornout, burned out, frustrated,

(01:11):
there are still aspects of thework that you do enjoy, and
sometimes those are few and farbetween, but just taking a bit

(01:32):
of time to think about those canreally reignite a passion for
the work that we're doing Now.
I know that might seem supersimplistic, but when we take a
little bit of time to reflect onthat, it can be an emotional

(01:53):
experience, because you've mostlikely had patients and families
that have changed you, thathave changed the way you think
about certain conditions orcertain things that felt so sure
to you before.
Maybe it seems a little moregray when you've walked
alongside someone who's goingthrough a circumstance that

(02:17):
before had only been imaginaryto you.
No-transcript.
So important to you Is itknowing that you're helping

(02:39):
someone with physical comfort,or that you're providing
education to a patient or afamily and helping to eliminate
confusion and fear?
To eliminate confusion and fear, is it being able to just be a

(03:09):
calming, professional but caringpresence to those who are
struggling in some way?
Or maybe it's your expertisewhere you're really able to jump
in and make a difference bynoticing that something isn't
going well, that a patient iscrashing, and because of your
attention and knowledge you'reable to prevent something
catastrophic from happening.

(03:30):
And maybe even make a list ofsome of these things.
And as you think through this, there might be some patients
that come to mind or particularcircumstances and just jot those
down and think about the waysthat you make a difference in
the lives of people every day.

(03:50):
And I know it can be hard andheavy work, but thinking back on
those things when the times doget a little bit more tough can
be helpful, and I encouragepeople to keep a wins file of
the things that that impact uspositively, the things that

(04:11):
other people recognize, and alsothe things that we just know
are a win for us for whateverreason, and so it's all of those
things that make us feel good.
So I encourage you to considermaking a note and keeping some
of these things in there as well.
And then one of the things iswe are helpers, we're caregivers

(04:32):
.
That's what we do and that'spart of who we are, and although
, of course, I'm a big proponentof making sure that we're
taking care of ourselves and notjust everyone else, the fact of
the matter is, when we helpothers, it helps us too, and so
how is a way that you canencourage one of your co-workers

(04:57):
?
You can encourage one of yourcoworkers, how can you make them
feel a little better, maybehelp them to shift their
perspective just a bit.
And this week, in celebration ofNurses Week, I've got a free
digital self-care package foryou, and that is something.

(05:17):
You do not necessarily have tobe a nurse to get that, but of
course, it is celebrating nursesbecause this is our week, and
you can get that atJennyLytlecom slash nurses, in
that you're going to find someeasy to use stress relief tools
and journaling prompts, as wellas a simple self-care plan and

(05:37):
some bonus materials as well, including a free 14-day trial to
the Nurses Break Room community, which is a safe, supportive
place for nurses who need tode-stress and incorporate some
real-life self-care.
It's kind of social mediawithout the distractions and
negativity of social media, andI've also got a deep discount on

(06:02):
a limited time stress reliefquick start offer and that is a
way to help you feel calm andclear and in control without
guilt, and you'll be able toaccess that within the free kit
or you can go to JennyLytlecomslash work hyphen with hyphen
Jenny.
Until next time, remember,self-care isn't selfish.

(06:23):
It's essential if we want tocontinue to care for others and
live our best lives.
Have a great week.
