The next morning, Andrew finds his sister Elizabeth knocking on his front door, saying she is there to pick up Virginia and take her away. With grief flooding his emotions, Andrew says goodbye to Virginia, but Charles tries one more time to convince her to stay and fulfill her destiny, while finally sharing how he truly feels about her, and if the consequences demanded it, he would lay down his own life to protect her if she chose to stay with him.
