We explore the transformative power of pivoting—not as an admission of failure but as a return to purpose when life's challenges threaten to overwhelm us. The journey of growth often leads to moments where our dreams feel heavy, requiring us to realign with our core "why" to continue moving forward authentically.

• Recognizing when your dreams begin to feel heavy and how to pivot back to your true purpose
• Navigating fear when it tries to derail your pivot by pausing to get curious instead of panicking
• Overcoming the silence from others that can make you question your path and purpose
• Understanding that being underestimated is like "people setting up checkers while you quietly set up chess"
• Embracing the pivot not as failure but as remembering why you started in the first place
• Finding your identity after relationship endings or when others try to define who you should be
• Taking the Plus One Challenge: identifying where in your life you need to pivot back to your why

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Hey friends, welcome back to the Plus One Theory
podcast, where it's not aboutstarting fast, it's about
finishing stronger than youstarted.
I'm your host, pam Dwyer.
Today we're talking aboutsomething I've had to lean on
over and over again the power ofa pivot, not just in business,

(00:33):
not just in habits, in becomingwho you were meant to be,
because life has this way ofsurprising us right.
Relationships end, we getunderestimated, people expect us
to fit into a box that wasnever meant for us and if we're
not careful, the very dream wewere chasing can start to feel

(00:57):
so heavy that it sucks the joyright out of the work.
That's when a pivot becomesmore than just a shift in
direction.
It becomes the moment you leaninto your true self, into your
why, into who you were alwaysmeant to be.
Have you ever noticed how thething you once dreamed about can

(01:22):
start to feel heavy?
The thing you once dreamedabout can start to feel heavy
once you're in the middle of it.
You've got the vision, themessage, the passion, and then
come the drafts, the revisions, the strategy calls the social

(01:42):
posts, the.
Is this even working moments?
Suddenly, growth feels lesslike soaring and more like
trying to breathe underwater.
If you've been there, well, you're not alone.
That's when I remind myself ofthe power of a pivot.
Lately my focus has been delaythe binge.
It's beautiful and stretchingand, yes, sometimes flat out

(02:04):
exhausting.
Rebranding can do that to you.
But it's one branch on a treeright.
It's been growing for years.
I've got the plus one theory, which is a branch finishing
stronger than you started.
I've got my book mantra of fromthe piney woods, which is your
past does not define you, itprepares you.

(02:26):
And then my company, tpkkConcepts.
Poor little thing, it getsoverlooked all the time.
But my slogan for my company isinspire, motivate, educate.
It's all different words butit's the same heartbeat.
And that heartbeat it's my why, giving people a voice, because

(02:51):
I grew up without one Unheardunseen.
That fuels every single story Itell, every talk I give, every
program I create, even in theway I raised my children.
But here's the thing when Ilose sight of that, why the hard

(03:12):
part of growth creeps in and ittries to choke the joy out of
my work.
And then I have two choices tomake it's either keep pushing
harder and burn out, or pivot, not away from the work but back
toward the heart of it.
A pivot doesn't mean I failed.

(03:33):
A pivot means I remembered.
It's alignment, it's breathingroom, it's my message.
Sometimes the pivot isn't a newproject, it's a new identity.
It's what happens when arelationship ends and you decide

(03:55):
who you are without them.
It's when you've beenunderestimated and you pivot
from proving them wrong toproving yourself right.
It's when the world wants youto be who they need and you
pivot into becoming who you weremeant to be.
I grew up reading the room tostay safe, finding the biggest

(04:21):
risk and the shape-shifting tokeep everyone calm and safe.
That survival skill can stealyour voice.
Believe it or not.
The pivot is saying I don'thave to become who you want me
to be.
I'm becoming who I was createdto be.
Also, being underestimated islike people setting up checkers

(04:46):
while you quietly set up chess.
Let's be real.
Pivoting isn't easy, becausefear shows up like an uninvited
house guest who eats your snacksand leaves dirty laundry behind
.
Fear whispers.
What if you fail?
What if they laugh at you, pam?
What if you're not enough orthey just don't like you?

(05:09):
Sometimes it doesn't whisper.
Sometimes it shouts loud enoughto crush the pivot before it
ever begins.
For me, fear looks like theworld's worst spin instructor,
yelling and screaming while I'mjust trying not to pass out.
It pushes, but in the wrongdirection.

(05:31):
Instead of pivoting towardpurpose, you circle the same
track, exhausted, going nowhere.
Here's what I've learned whenfear shows up, don't just plow
through, you pause.
That pause is so powerful y'all.
It's the moment you notice thetrigger.

(05:53):
You get curious instead ofpanickingicking and you take
back your power.
That's the same heartbeatbehind delay, the binge.
The urge isn't the enemy, thesilence around it is.
So when fear shows up, justlike when a destructive habit

(06:14):
shows up, fear shows up, justlike when a destructive habit
shows up.
Pause, get curious and askwhat's really driving this.
Am I reacting to the fear orresponding to purpose?
Fear can sit in the passengerseat, but it does not get the
steering wheel.

(06:34):
You know what else can crush apivot Silence.
Silence isn't always peaceful.
Sometimes it's the loudestnoise in the room.
It's the silence when fear anddoubt creep in.
It's the silence when peopledon't react to your heartfelt
work.
And it's the silence Don'treact to your heartfelt work.

(06:57):
And it's the silence, thatsilence when you give your best
and the response is nothing.
And the hardest silence of allis when it comes from the people
closest to you, the ones whoseencouragement could mean the
most.
A simple I'm proud of you, pam,or keep going, you're making a

(07:21):
difference could carry me formiles, but instead nothing.
No good, no bad, just silence.
And in that silence you're leftto overanalyze, to wonder do
they see me?
Do they care?
Do they just not want to hurtmy feelings?

(07:41):
Does this mean I'm failing?
And here's the truth.
It hurts more when nothing issaid.
It speaks loud and clear andfor me it brings back old
feelings of being unseen, unheard and forgotten.

(08:08):
But here's what I've had tolearn Silence, it lies.
Silence can't destroy yourvision or your goals, because
you're not in this to please theworld.
You're in this to share themessage with the people it was
meant for, the ones who willhear it and heal from their own
wounds.
Not everyone will get yourmessage, not everyone will want
your message and, yes, sometimeseven the people you thought

(08:32):
would cheer you on will staysilent.
But that silence does not getto decide your purpose.
You are the only one who cancontrol your emotions.
You are the only one whodecides whether you keep showing
up.
So focus on your why.
Keep your eye on your calling.

(08:53):
So focus on your why.
Keep your eye on your calling.
Silence or not, applause or not, the pivot is what carries you
back to your purpose every time, and when you do that, silence
loses its power.
I've been underestimated moretimes than I can count.
People told me I didn't havethe right background or that I

(09:19):
couldn't possibly pull this off.
For a long time I would pivotjust to prove them wrong.
But eventually I realized thatthat pivot wasn't about them at
all.
It was about proving myselfright.
And sometimes the pivot comeswhen a relationship ends
Suddenly.
You're left wondering who am Iwithout them and what do I do

(09:42):
now?
I've had those pivots too, andeach one has taught me this the
pivot is all about becoming.
Not becoming who others wantyou to be, not shrinking
yourself to fit theirexpectations, but becoming who
you were always meant to be,what feels right to you your

(10:05):
calling.
So let me leave you with this.
A pivot doesn't mean you failed.
A pivot means you rememberedand you're resilient.
You're not going to give up.
It's alignment, it's breathingroom, it's devotion over
discipline.
It's remembering why youstarted in the first place.

(10:28):
So the work doesn't drown outthe message.
Here's a plus one challenge forthe week.
Where in your life do you needto pivot back to your why?
Maybe it's your career, shifting from proving yourself
to living your purpose.
Maybe it's in a relationship, reclaiming your voice where

(10:51):
you've been unseen.
Or maybe it's in your habitspausing when fear shows up and
choosing devotion instead ofdiscipline.
Whatever it is, lean into thepivot.
Not into fear, not into silence, but into becoming who you were

(11:12):
always meant to be.
Thank you for spending this timewith me today and letting me
rant.
Remember.
Your past prepared you.
Your story gives you the powerto pivot.
And your plus one that onesmall step forward.
It empowers you to finishstronger than you started.

be amazing.

author with one of the mostrefreshing outlooks on life, and

(12:17):
then Tyler Lenz.
He's an author of severalincredible books and a voice you
don't want to miss.

Piney Woods, and he just leftsuch an impression on me.
