The challenges we’ve faced and the struggles we’ve walked through can often lead to some of the most powerful opportunities to serve others. We can be a trusted voice of help, as one who has walked a similar path and can speak from personal experience.
I’m joined on this episode by special guest, Richard Kaufman. Rich is no stranger to some of the struggles that are experienced by veterans who have served. He has struggled with substance abuse addiction, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Rich recently celebrated 32 years of sobriety. Having come back from drug addiction, alcoholism, and homelessness, he now helps people struggling with depression or any other health, fitness, or addiction-related issues.
In the community, Rich is known as “The Comeback Coach”. Rich is also the author of the book, A Hero’s Journey From Darkness to Light. He is the host of the eighth most-listened-to veteran podcast online, Success Your Why, Powers Your How. On this podcast, he interviews a myriad of guests including business leaders, entrepreneurs, and other prominent figures to talk about their unique journeys and struggles. He is pushing the #todayIdecide campaign, which is focused on assisting people with mental health struggles.
In this episode, Rich shares his story of struggling with addiction and mental health issues, the day that transformed his perspective and path, and now being able to help others walking through these struggles. We also discuss the impact of spending time with and learning from those you want to be like, why trust and building relationships are key to success in business, and the importance of intentionally charting a new path forward to where you want to be.
Please join me for this episode and let’s reflect together on the incredible opportunities for us to use our struggles and stories to help others.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist
It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
