In life, it's a fundamental human need to feel like you belong. To feel a part of the group.
That's true in our personal and our work life.
In our career, we get much of our work identity from what we do for a living.
The company we work at. The team we're a part of.
But there can be a downside to tribalism at work. And it happens when we use it to separate or exclude people from the group.
When we refuse to collaborate or work with others. When we adopt an us vs. them philosophy. When we have a circle the wagons and shoot out mentality.
When we use our work tribes to tear down others, that's when organizational politics and gamesmanship gets in the way of corporate productivity and the wellbeing of the employees who work there.
On today's episode, we explore how the underbelly of tribalism can show up, how it hurts companies and what you can do to make a positive difference.
