Ryan Drummond -IVF, Empathy & The Art of Active Listening

A huge shoutout goes to Leslie Vickrey and Megan McCann for making the introduction to our next guest, Ryan Drummond, the VP of Partnerships at Game Plan.  They are a software and services company that integrates eLearning, mentorship, and career services for competitive athletics organizations. Since 2016, Game Plan has become the most widely used education and development platform for high school, collegiate, and professional athletics departments.   Their software is used by the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL.  Additionally, they power the NJCAA opportunity center supporting 500 institutions and 60,000 athletes.  Before joining Game Plan, Ryan's company, The Athlete Book, was acquired by Game Plan.

Ryan was the youngest of three siblings growing up, and competition was everywhere for him!  His father was a professional football player and spent time with the Cowboys and the now, Commanders.  Ryan was a fantastic lacrosse player growing up and would go on to play in college as well.   He and his wife have three kids under the age of 10, which keeps them busy.   Ryan would also share the story of their journey with IVF too, which I thought was very authentic and vulnerable to share.  

One thing his parents taught him that he will teach his kids is the power of #belief and the power of #visualization.    After sports, Ryan shared how he got into mountain biking, where he dropped some wisdom that he learned, "your bike will follow your eyes."  That advice hit home for me, as it's true for many aspects of our life! 

One area of our conversation that hit home as a talking point was around the word #practice.  The ability to instill practice with our kids is so important regardless of what they choose to do in life.  As we finished up, Ryan would remind us all that, as dads, we must practice the art of active listening, lean in on empathy, and don't always react.
