So come and hang out with me.
I can't wait to kick off thisworkshop with you.
See you there.
Last summer I spent time in thedesert when my family and I were
driving across the country forour big move.
we've lived in North Carolinafor 10 years, and then relocated
(02:09):
to the Bay Area here inCalifornia last summer.
Now, I can't believe that we'veactually been here for almost a
year, to be completely honestwith you.
But time has been flying by.
We've just really been enjoyingall of the outdoor activities
that California has to offer andhas been such an incredible
sight to see.
But what I often do is I reflectback on my time in the desert
(02:32):
because it was this past summerwhere doubtful thoughts were
incredibly intrusive.
I've had this podcast now fortwo years, and last summer was
when I really began to wonder ifI was good enough to keep it
going.
There were so many thoughts thatkept running in my mind.
It made me question myself andmy abilities, to be honest with
you, the desert Heat, the Baronscenery, just honestly seemed to
(02:56):
sum up my thoughts exactly.
It was like I was literallyseeing what I was feeling from
the doubt and fear thatcontinuously crept into my mind
over the summer.
I remember looking out into itwas, seemed like endless sand
and desert plants.
It looked like there was no lifeout there.
And that's exactly how I feltinternally.
(03:17):
Like the life inside of me wasgetting sucked out from being
consumed with the thoughts ofdoubt and fear.
And it seemed like no matterwhat I was doing, I couldn't
move the needle.
So here's one thing.
Being in the desert taught mebecause I believe it's going to
help you refocus your mind andhonestly check your heart.
So what's that one thing?
(03:37):
It is that?
Everything happens according toGod's timing.
Now, I know you've heard thatbefore, and that's probably not
the most comforting thing thatyou're wanting to hear in the
moment, especially as you'redesperately searching for
answers in a way to becomeunstuck, right?
But when doubt takes over, whenyou're feeling like you just
don't have the answers to moveon, when you're feeling
(03:58):
overwhelmed and you're lookingfor a way out, it can be
incredibly hard to be at peacewith what I just said, which is
everything happens according toGod's timing, and the reason why
is because the results or theanswers that you want, you want
them as soon as possible.
Maybe you're like me out in thedesert waiting and hoping for a
(04:19):
breakthrough, but that doesn'thappen.
Or did it.
See, I wanna offer you thismindset shift that is going to
change how you navigate throughdoubt.
I want you to think about whatgood has been given in the midst
of your hard season.
When you're waiting for theanswer, my friend, remember God,
look for him.
(04:40):
And at the hard times, see whenI was panicking in the desert,
wondering where the restoredmind was headed and what would
be next.
I was waiting for.
This big sign that would haveneon flashing lights pointing me
in the direction that I neededto go in because I wanted to
know for sure.
I wanted to be absolutelycertain where I was going and
(05:01):
what exact steps to take so thatI wouldn't mess up.
But there was a breakthroughwhich was that I needed to learn
to be okay with the discomfortso that I can grow through them.
And that is what I wanna offeryou today, mama.
A moment for you to reflect andtruly ask yourself if you're
fighting against learning toembrace the discomfort of the
(05:23):
season that you are in, andperhaps that is what's stopping
you from growing through thishard season.
See, waiting is hard.
Waiting on God can be incrediblydifficult.
As moms, we have busy schedulesto maintain outside of our own
personal schedule.
Most of you are probablymasterminds of your entire
(05:45):
family schedule, meaning youtake everyone's activities and
you plug it into this grandcalendar so that no one misses a
practice, a meeting, and so onand so forth.
On top of that, you're makingsure that dinner is prepped or
cooked before a certain time, especially if you know that you
have a busier day ahead of you.
Now, this is just an example ofcourse, but Everyone's life is
(06:09):
busy and with that comes thepressure to get things done
quickly.
If you think about it, you haveprobably searched or you are
searching for quick dinners onPinterest or quick snack ideas
that you can prep as you andyour family are on the go to
practice.
Essentially, what I am gettingat is that time is short for
(06:30):
many of us.
With that comes the pressure toget things done quickly.
You might also find as you'rereflecting on whether or not
you're embracing the discomfortof waiting on God, that you want
to be in control.
So you end up quote, helping Godby rushing or taking things into
your own hands.
Now you can't see me, but I'mraising my hand because I am
(06:52):
absolutely 100% guilty of quote, helping God by trying to take
control of things.
But waiting is actually a reallygood thing.
It deepens your trust and itteaches you to slow down.
When you embrace the discomfortand truly bring yourself to a
place of being at rest, there isless and less quote, forcing
(07:16):
things to happen.
Waiting on God is not the norm.
It is not something that isnormally practiced working at a
slow pace is not natural or evenculturally practiced, at least
not that I'm aware ofeverything, or at least almost
everything is given a time blockor a schedule because it keeps
people on time.
(07:37):
It keeps everything nice andneat in a box.
But when you take a step backand think about how your mind
races when you're seekinganswers and results as soon as
possible, it can be stressful, especially when it's derived
from you trying to be in controlor trying to rush God's timing,
whether through doubt or fear, and you're wondering what your
(07:58):
credentials are, you'rewondering if you're enough.
All of these things drive you toseek for answers and results.
ASAP and it's stressful.
Waiting on God requires wisdomrather than your own strength.
My friend.
Wisdom comes from knowing whoGod is and from being in the
Word.
And not only that, but fromapplication of what you're
(08:19):
learning through the word.
So are you changing according towhat you're learning in the
word?
Trusting God includessurrendering because it is part
of trusting.
It is an action that needs totake place for you to be able to
build that trust.
It helps when trust is builtbecause it teaches you to become
(08:42):
reliant on his goodness.
Which is not a bad thing at allAnd as you're learning to slow
down, the Lord is good.
He is a good shepherd, so hewill lay you down on green
pastures and in the midst ofyour desert.
So how incredibly awesome is itthat even when you are in the
desert.
(09:03):
God is still good.
I am thinking about Psalms 23right now.
As I'm talking to you.
It is called the Lord is myShepherd is the Psalm of David.
So if you're able Mama.
Bring that Bible out and readalong with me.
I will be reading from theEnglish standard version, and I
just love this time that we getto fellowship in the Word of God
(09:24):
together.
So join me as I read Psalms 23and I am going to pause because
there are footnotes within thisparticular Psalms of David that
I want to highlight because Ithink that it brings such huge
depth and meaning into thisbeautiful psalm already.
So it starts out by saying, theLord is my shepherd.
(09:45):
I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in greenpastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
Now for verse one, the footnotesare beside waters, which also
said Waters of rest.
So this particular portion ofverse one would say, he leads me
besides waters of rest.
(10:05):
Verse three continues to say, herestores my soul.
He leads me in paths ofrighteousness for his name's
sake.
And in verse three, the footnoteis for righteousness, which
reads in right paths.
So this particular portion willread.
He leads me in right paths forhis name's sake.
Verse four says, even though Iwalk through the valley of
(10:28):
shadow of death, I will fear noevil for you are with me.
Your rod and your staff, theycomfort me.
And in verse four, there is afootnote there for the word
death, which is, or the valleyof deep darkness.
And that portion of verse fourwould read with the footnotes.
(10:48):
even though I walk through thevalley of deep darkness, I will
fear no evil for you are withme.
Your rod and your staff, theycomfort me.
Verse five says, you prepare atable before me in the presence
of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil, mycup overflows.
And then the last verse, versesix, says, surely goodness and
(11:12):
mercy shall follow me all thedays of my life and I shall
dwell in the house of the Lordforever.
Now, verse six actually has fourfootnotes, one for the word
surely, which the footnote saysonly.
The second one is for the wordmercy, which says, or steadfast
love.
(11:32):
And then the third one is forthe word dwell, which reads or
shall return to dwell.
And then the last one is for theword forever, which makes notes
that it's Hebrew for length ofdays.
Now I am going to read verse sixagain, but with all of the
footnotes, so that would readonly.
(11:54):
Goodness.
and steadfast love shall followme all the days of my life and I
shall return to dwell in thehouse of the Lord for length of
days.
I just love Psalms 23.
I love that every time I comeback to Psalms 23, there is
always something new for me tothink about and honestly for me
(12:18):
right now, that's in verse six, which.
Highlights the word dwell.
returning to dwell in the houseof the Lord is something that
truly stuck out to me becauseit's making me think as I'm
talking to you, how often am Ireturning to dwell into the
house of the Lord?
Do I take my good times and do Ijust run with it until I feel
(12:40):
burnout and then I come back?
Or am I continuously going backinto the house of the Lord?
I think for me personally, it'smaking me reflect too on
Ecclesiastes 12, which Solomonreminds us to remember the Lord,
remember our creator, It's justsomething that I find so
incredibly beautiful.
(13:01):
As Psalms 23, the Psalm of Davidis written out, and I'm gonna
share these tips with you ontrusting God while you're in the
waiting, but I would highly,highly.
Highly encourage you to go backand read Psalms 23, read it
slowly, and ask how you shouldbe changed from reading.
(13:21):
Psalms 23.
So my tips for you are tosurrender control.
Think about where you need tosurrender control, and then work
through that particular thing.
bring this to God in your prayerwhile you actively slow yourself
down.
The second one is to practiceGodly patience.
Patience, not from your ownflesh that is easily tempted or
(13:43):
easily angered, but learninggodly patience and applying that
into your own life.
It won't be perfect my friend, but it will help you overcome
the feeling of being stuck.
And then the third one is tocontinue to read the Bible.
Be reminded of his goodness Andagain, ask how you should be
changed by what you've read andstart making those changes.
(14:05):
It's gonna be incredibly hardand uncomfortable, but perhaps
maybe being uncomfortable, embracing the discomfort is
where these changes are going tohappen.
I know that we talked about alot today, especially about
waiting on God's timing, andyes, it can be hard to be at
peace with understanding thateverything happens according to
(14:27):
his timing because we have busyschedules.
As moms, there's pressures thatwe have to get things done
quickly because as moms we havebusy schedules.
There's the pressure to getthings done quickly.
There.
We're rushing or taking thingsinto our own hands because we
feel like we're short on timeWaiting on God requires wisdom
(14:48):
rather than your own strength.
which leads us to talking aboutour third point, which was
trusting in God surrendering ispart of this trust process.
Not only does it help you buildtrust, but it teaches you to
become reliant on his goodnessas you're learning to slow down.
We highlighted Psalms 23.
Read through that with all ofthe footnotes As a reminder of
(15:10):
who God is and I gave you tipsto help you as you're waiting on
God.
which is to surrender thecontrol practice godly patience,
and continue to read the Bible.
It can be incredibly hard foryou to embrace the discomfort
that you are in, especially inthe season of overwhelm and
stuck.
And it just seems like no matterwhat you're doing, the needle
(15:31):
isn't moving.
But my friend, you can do hardthings.
Thank you so much for hangingout with me today.
I had such a wonderful time.
