Today's episode is inspired by a note I found in my journal I wrote in a few years ago, "one day or day one." This topic discusses taking that first step in reaching your goals. We'll cover  the importance of shifting your mindset to achieve goals, what it looks like to start small, focusing on what matters, and changing attitudes towards work. I also share personal experiences and encourages listeners to take the first step towards their dreams, despite challenges and doubts.

(01:34):
transformation.
That comes from a faith lens.

Because I believe that we're allsearching for a life that is
filled with peace and joy.
If you are returning listener.
Thank you.
My friend, that you are makingthe choice to come back and just
hang out with me, at least forthe next couple of minutes.
And I missed you.
I'm excited that you're here.
I am excited that I get to talkto you last week, we talked

(01:57):
about procrastination and Ishared with you in that episode.
My thoughts on whyprocrastinating might be
something you often findyourself doing and the effects
of delaying work.
And then finally sharing withyou ways that you can work on
overcoming this.
If you find that this issomething that is very relatable
to you, I would highly recommendthat you take a listen to that

(02:19):
episode.
And I hope that it helps youthis week.
We are going to talk about.
Taking that first step inovercoming your challenges and
how we can lead you to be onestep closer to your goals.
We all have dreams of beingsuccessful.
Right.
I don't know anyone that evergrows up hoping to fail at life.

(02:40):
I've never heard anyone say, Ihope that I fail at this.
Goal that I've set for myself orthat I have this ambition and I
hope that I fail at reaching it.
I don't know anyone that saysthat.
The hope that we have with ourambitions and goals that we've
set for ourself.
So we're able to reach them withsuccess and that.
Could be defined.

(03:01):
However you see success.
but because we don't ever saythat we want to feel that life.
What we do face though, are thechallenges that becomes mindset
barriers.
So today I'm going to share mythoughts on why it's easier to
dream that, to put in the workways that you can take that
first step.

(03:21):
And of course, I always leaveyou with encouraging words and
hope that it inspires you notonly to move forward in your
journey alone, but invite.
God into that space and allowhim to transform you from the
inside out.
And that my friend is where truepeace and joy comes from.
So I was looking at my notes theother day that I had written

(03:42):
down in a journal years ago whenI first started my fitness
journey and I came across onethat says one day or day one,
Which inspired this episode.
And if you are in my Facebookgroup, then Monday's post was
also inspired by this particularnote that I wrote.
If you're not in my Facebookgroup, I don't know what you're

(04:03):
doing.
Why have you not joined me overthere?
If you are interested, my friendto have encouragement, on your
Facebook feed throughout theweek I would highly recommend
that you look at the show notesand tap on that link so that you
can join in on the Facebookgroup and that community, the
only thing I request of you isthat you answer those three

(04:24):
questions.
but the reason why I ask thesequestions is so that I can
better serve you as a lifecoach.
And also as someone who is justreally enjoying.
This podcasting world.
I am not a professional by anymeans.
I just love what I get to doand, share my love of the Lord
with you and hopes that you, myfriend Are also inspired to

(04:47):
build your relationship with ourfather.
So, yes, I was in my journal andI came across that quote that
said one day or day one.
Can't remember where I found it,but it was on Instagram as I was
scrolling.
And that is something thatreally.
Made me realize that it waseasier for me to dream up of
these things that I wanted toachieve than for me to actually

(05:10):
go through them.
So yes, that inspired thisepisode.
And during this time, when Icame across this particular
quote, I was still grieving overso much.
The loss of an unborn baby, mymarriage was struggling.
And I was more lost than ever.
And the one thing that keptcoming to my thoughts.

(05:31):
Where.
Me not feeling confident inmyself anymore.
So I started working out and Ithought that if I could change
my outward appearance, I wouldsomehow heal the internal
struggles that I was goingthrough.
I was seeking physical changesand only cared about that.
I only cared about the physicalchanges.
Because I was lacking inconfidence in my idea of

(05:53):
confidence was that if I couldlook.
Gorgeous on the outside, then Iwould feel better on the inside.
It was also during this seasonthat I noticed how my confidence
relied on other people'sapproval of me and.
If you want an in depthconversation on confidence, I
have a couple episodes alreadypublished.

(06:14):
The most recent one is titledembracing confidence.
The power of assurance, where Ishift the perspective of not
putting confidence in yourself, but in God.
And that is where you drawconfidence from another one is
called the confidence you want.
It is an older episode, but itis still a good one because I

(06:35):
share with you in that episode, the difference in worldly and
faith, confidence and how thatcan change your life.
I do highly recommend taking alisten to one or the other, or
even both.
They're really good, but I amreally biased when I say that.
So if you take a listen to it,let me know what you think.
Take the conversation beyond thepodcast.

(06:57):
Reach out to me on my Instagramor all my Facebook page.
All of that information tocontact me on my social media is
listed in the show notes below.
So.
Connect with me.
I would love to come alongsideyou and see how these mindset
barriers that you break aregoing to change the way that you
are a spouse or that you motheror whatever it is that you're.

(07:19):
On the journey of doing.
So, yes, I came across this noteone day or day one.
And thought that it would makean interesting topic of
discussion today.
'cause how many of us stay stuckon a dream and feel like we
could quote never, you can't seeme, but I'm doing these air
quotations.
Like Joey does.
If you are a friends fan, thenyou know, that reference.

(07:42):
But yes.
How many of us feel like wecould never do something like
that?
And when I say the word thatthat is to represent whatever
goal or ambition that you have, whatever dream you have.
And a lot of us think toourselves that we can't do this
thing or that we see the biggerpicture, we see the end results.

(08:03):
And yet we still think that weare going to fail at this And so
we don't typically know at thistime, if we can even reach the
goal right., No matter whatambition you have a dream of
going after, we let our lack ofknowledge.
Or lack of skills or suppliesand finances, stop us from
reaching that goal.

(08:25):
We think that we have to haveeverything all at once in order
to prepare ourselves to reachthis goal when it's so easy to
just start.
Think about a dream that you'vehad and how you were once
excited.
To start working towards thisparticular goal because the end
results would be so satisfyingto get to.
The work you imagine puttingyourself in my front is

(08:48):
typically not the kind of work.
You have to go through in reallife.
Think about it.
When you are in this one dayphase as I call it right, you're
dreaming up.
Of this dream and you see theend goal.
And you know that there's goingto be some challenges along the

(09:08):
way.
But what you think up insideyour head is not nearly as hard
as what you're going to gothrough in real life.
Why.
Because in our head, we makethings up.
It's not going to be as bad aswhat we think it's going to be
like.
But in reality, we're actuallyconfronted with the challenges
that lie ahead of us.
And it's harder to work throughreality than it is to dream up

(09:29):
of a situation.
and that's why I say that thework that you imagine.
Putting in is typically not thekind of work that you have to go
through in real life.
And so you don't take intoaccount the actual hard things
that you're going to go through.
But as I always say, you can dohard things So, what do you do
in this situation?
You often think of the bestpossible scenarios with the

(09:51):
least amount of resistance whenyou are in the one day phase.
The best possible scenariosusually comes to mind.
We might weigh the risk rewardand decide that this is worth
pursuing, but we're not going tosit and soak on the worst
possible scenarios becauseyou're.
Dreaming up of this dream,right.
You're excited to get to thisgoal and to have the success

(10:14):
that you want for yourself.
So how can you.
Move from just one day, two dayone taking the first step.
Well, there's a couple of thingsyou can do, but I would highly
recommend to start small.
Yes.
The dream is big.
But sometimes when we make bigmovements with a big dream, it

(10:35):
can be calm, a chore for us.
Y.
Because if you are not alreadyliving in that lifestyle, adding
things that are already not ahabit.
It takes time to adjust to Jamesclear talks about this in his
book called atomic habits.
If you have not read that bookyet, I highly recommend you

(10:57):
reading that book.
I love how he breaks down.
The habit stacking idea that hehas.
and he has a couple of,researches in the book that he
includes the kind of backs, thisidea up.
But it makes sense.
It totally makes sense.
Especially if you want to builda sustainable lifestyle to
achieve that dream.
This is also where you can audityour habits and make decisions

(11:19):
on what habits you want toimprove on.
So instead of changingeverything all at once, we'll
take fitness, for example, because it's one.
That I often resort to in theexamples that I give throughout
my episodes, but I think it'sone that a lot of us can relate
to when we are talking aboutwellness as a whole.
So if you are on a fitnessjourney or on a wellness journey

(11:43):
and you want to have a bettereating habit.
When you go and audit yourbehavior and everything that's
involving there.
Right?
So the things that you'redrinking, the things that you're
eating.
And it's not something that youtypically reach for.
It's not going to last as long.
It's not sustainable becausethen you don't find enjoyment in
the process.

(12:03):
So break it down into smallermanageable pieces.
if you are trying to eathealthier, you are probably
thinking that you need to havethis fat free, low carb diet.
And you know, you're starting tocut out all of the sweets and
all of the things that you like.
To eat.
Right.
All the things that you enjoy.

(12:24):
But if you haven't built up thetolerance to go without sweets
or to be on the healthier eatinghabits, in a sense of like
swapping foods out.
For something that would bealternatively healthier.
Then starting out with changingeverything.
It's not going to be sustainablefor you.
the question that would be mosthelpful in this situation is to
ask, how long is this going tolast?

(12:44):
Is this.
A one or two week thing, or do Iwant to make this into a
lifestyle?
And as you answer that question,my hope is that it would guide
and move you in a way that wouldhelp you build.
Better habits, smaller habitsthat create bigger wins so that
you can move forward andcreating this new lifestyle for

(13:05):
you.
It would also make sense toincorporate these newer habits.
Into your daily routine, as youbegan to process fading out the
old habits and yes, it's notgoing to be perfect.
It's going to be hard.
You're probably going to findthat you revert back to your old
habits because.
Old habits are hard to break.

(13:26):
New habits are hard toimplement.
Finding that compromise is goingto be the most sustainable way
for you to make this habitchange, become a lifestyle.
This is helpful when you aretaking a step towards a dream
that you have.
Remember, we're talking aboutstarting small here.
So not only are you working onhabits.

(13:48):
But you're also working onbreaking down your dreams into
smaller, more manageable goals.
So what are you doing in yourlife today?
That is going to get you onestep closer to reaching that
goal.
If it is taking the first step.
And sitting down and drafting upa name for your business, my
friend, let it be that and focuson that everything else is going

(14:12):
to fall into place.
As you begin to take the firststep.
Another thing that you can doand taking the first step is to
focus on what matters.
Right?
Stop fixating on the things thatyou don't have and start asking
yourself forward, movingthoughts, provoking questions.
So if you are wanting to workout right, you want to lift

(14:33):
weights, but you don'tnecessarily have free weights at
the house.
And you don't necessarily havethe finances to go and join a
gym What can you do at the housethat can help you until you have
these things set up foryourself?
So, one thing that comes to mindwould probably be body weight
workouts using your body weightThese things are going to get

(14:58):
your blood flowing, your heartpumping, and it's still going to
give you a good workout.
Until you are ready to go andinvest in weights or go into the
gym.
Ask yourself.
Forward moving thoughts,provoking questions.
How can I then fill in theblank?

(15:18):
What can I do to, and then fillin the blank.
These are questions that I loveto ask myself personally.
Because they are the questionsthat are the hardest to answer.
But also the most.
Fulfilling once to answerbecause it doesn't require me to
just sit and think about it, butto also be hands-on with this as
well.

(15:38):
And the thing is you may nothave all the things that you
need at the moment, but what doyou already have that.
Can be helpful in the meantime,When you focus on what matters,
so you don't have to knoweverything all at once.
You just simply don't, but youdo have to be willing to go
through hard things and learnalong the way so that you can

(15:59):
adapt.
To whatever the situation iswithout losing sight of what
this dream is.
And.
Sometimes.
We can't stop ourselves becausewe lacked knowledge or skills in
something we're not qualified topursue this goal or have this
type of success that we want.
But I truly believe that wecan't know everything.

(16:22):
And the best way to actuallylearn is on the job.
I don't know about you, but I ama hands on learner.
I visually see things and I haveto learn by tinkering with it,
so to speak so that I can knowhow this thing functions or how
this thing works.
Right.
And so when I started thispodcast, my friend, I had no
idea what I was doing.

(16:42):
I am so grateful for a friendwho helped me along the way, but
as far as like setting up andthings like.
Workflow.
I didn't know how to do any ofthat.
And it was just through trialand error.
Where everything started to makesense.
So please do not be discouragedon whatever ambition you have,
whatever goal you have.
Do not be discouraged becauseyou lack knowledge in something.

(17:03):
When it came to my fitnessjourney, I had no idea what I
was doing.
I was looking at YouTube videosto help me understand form and
movement for a particularexercise that I didn't really
know how to do.
I was.
Reaching out to coaches whocould help me in the nutrition
department, because I want to doheal my journey with food.
I didn't want to be afraid.

(17:23):
To enjoy a meal.
Because what is life withoutfood?
Right.
We need food to nourish ourflesh body.
Just like, we need the word ofGod to nourish our spiritual
self.
And so it is something that.
You have to be willing to admitthat you don't know what you're
doing and be willing to learn.

(17:44):
The one thing that I often askmyself is.
Am I teachable and coachable.
If I am teachable, then I'm opento being corrected.
If I'm coachable, then I'm open.
To making changes in my lifethat is going to better me for
the goal that I have.
And so I propose the samequestion to you.

(18:04):
My friend in this season, areyou coachable?
And are you teachable?
so, yes, you don't have to knoweverything and you can learn
along the way.
There is nothing wrong withthat.
We're going to make mistakes.
Anyway, as someone who might bean expert in our field, even an
expert does not know everything.
And so I would say that you arean expert in your own personal

(18:25):
life.
And as you look at your life, you're going to see that you've
made mistakes along the way, butguess what?
You've overcome already.
And you're going to overcome thechallenges that you face when it
comes to reaching your dreamsand your goals..
Another thing that you can do totake that first step to go from
one day to day one is to shiftthe idea that work has to be

(18:48):
dreadful.
Yes, it's hard, but it does nothave to be miserable.
It does not have to be dreadful.
From the beginning of man'screation.
Man has been put to work.
What was Adam's task.
A lot of us probably wouldanswer that question with he
named the animals.
Right.
My kids.
They always bring that up.
Adam named all the animals andyes, he did.
But in Genesis scripture tellsus that the Lord God took the

(19:12):
man and put him in the garden ofEden to work it and keep it.
This is in Genesis chapter two, verse 15, and I'm reading from
the English standard version.
So, what does that mean?
Right.
We know what it means to work.
It means to put in effort to dosomething towards a task.

(19:34):
But what does it mean to keep.
What I have found in myreflection of this is that.
When you are keeping something, you are responsible for it, you
are to preserve it.
So Adam's job was to put fortheffort into.
Maintaining the garden.
And also preserving the gardenand being responsible for it.

(19:55):
So all in all your dream or thegoals that you have needs work,
but.
You're also responsible forpreserving it.
Preserving that dream.
Knowing your why rememberingyour, why?
The work that you do can feel somundane day after day, trust me,

(20:16):
I don't always feel like goinginto my garage to work out,
especially now that.
It is getting warmer.
I am from the south living inNorth Carolina currently.
And the humidity out here canget really humid.
Okay.
It can feel thick and heavy somedays.
And I don't have to exert myselfa lot for my body to start

(20:36):
sweating and becominguncomfortable.
And yes, I work out in mygarage, so I don't have a fan
and there's not an AC unit inthere.
So whatever breeze the good Lorddecides to blow.
And to the garage is the praisethat I'm getting for that
moment.
It can become very discouragingto step out in the hot garage
and work out and it can becomevery mundane thinking, oh my

(20:57):
gosh, I have to do this again.
And you don't want to because welike excitement.
We are distracted by excitement.
That's why certain videos onYouTube or entertaining to us.
That's why certain.
Dramas, if you are into Koreandramas, or if you're into
certain TV shows, those areinteresting to us because it
serves as a distraction.

(21:18):
It's entertaining to us.
We don't typically like to dothe same things over and over
and over again.
Or even eat the same things overand over and over again.
Right.
But these are the things thatare going to help preserve your
goal is to remember your why sothat when you're showing up day
after day to do what seems likethe same work, you're not

(21:39):
dreading it.
You don't have a negativemindset towards it.
So the work that you do does nothave to be dreadful.
Your attitude is going todetermine.
Terman your outlook, which interms is going to affect your
mindset.
The words that you say toyourself about the work ahead of
you is going to matter.
I used to dread Mondays, especially as a college student.

(22:00):
And I.
Did not like Monday.
So I just assumed that allMondays would just be bad
Mondays from here on out, because that meant there was a
start of a new week.
I have to get back into aroutine And that was how I
perceived it.
So my mindset towards Monday, myattitude.
Towards the Monday was alreadynegative to begin with a lot of
us.
Walk through life.

(22:22):
Despising Mondays all because wehave to show up for work that
feels mundane.
So if that's you, if you aresomeone, my friend who has a
negative outlook on Mondays, youdespise it.
You dread it.
My friend, I would encourage youto shift that perspective.
Shift that perspective intosomething positive, You're
showing up to work on a Monday, just like you would Tuesday

(22:45):
through Friday.
Generally speaking.
I know that there are jobs outthere where you're not typically
working a, what would beconsidered normal work week or
hours.
But generally speaking, Thereare certain things that you do
in a routine, and that canbecome one data.
You can dread it.
But the outlook that you haveshifting that perspective of

(23:06):
dreading that one thing is goingto change your attitude.
And that's not to say that youhave to go into work, skipping
and hopping at.
That's not what I'm saying atall.
I'm just saying, if you can findsomething to be grateful for.
On the day that you disliked themost.
We're using Monday as an examplehere, if you can find something
to be grateful for in that day.

(23:29):
It's going to dramaticallyincrease the way that you look
at that particular situation, that particular day.
And so, yes, your work does nothave to be dreadful.
Your attitude will determineyour outlook.
Which is going to determine yourmindset, which is also going to
determine the way that you move.
Your mindset plays a big rolewhen you are frustrated or

(23:52):
facing challenges.
Life outside of your goals willimpact you.
And it's going to.
Probably cause more of astruggle than what you
anticipated.
Like we talked about earlier inthis episode.
It's how you proceed though.
My friend, during this time, that's going to make the biggest
difference in your journey.

(24:13):
So, yes, taking that first stepis hard because.
Maybe doubt, fear.
The.
Lack of knowledge, skills, whatever it is is what's
stopping you from movingforward.
Maybe you think that you don'tdeserve this for whatever reason
is what's stopping you fromtaking that first step.
You'd have to ask yourself, areyou going to be in that one day

(24:35):
phase where you're just talkingabout it.
It's so much easier to dream upthese things.
Say these things, set yourgoals, write them down.
And get stuck in that phase ofjust dreaming and talking about
it, or are you going to movepast one day?
And pick day one.
No matter what you choose.
My friend, you are going to havechallenges that come your way.

(24:59):
And yes, these challenges aredifferent.
And they're hard.
But my friend.
You get to choose your hard.
And yes, I know it's hard, nomatter what decision you make,
but my friend, you can do hardthings.
Thank you so much for taking thetime out of your day to listen

(25:22):
in on this episode.
I meant what I said.
You can do hard things, so don'tlet the daily challenges stop
you from reaching your greatestpotential.
