My name is Caroline, wife, momof three, daughter of the one
true king.
(00:26):
Host of this podcast andcertified light coach through
the I am system by PaintingVehicles Incorporations.
My hope is that this podcastbrings God's light into your
life and you break free from thechains that are holding you
back.
Friend, it is time to shift yourmindset into one that will help
(00:50):
you flourish.
Ready?
Let's go.
Hello and welcome to therestored mind podcast.
How are you doing today?
My friend.
If you are new here.
My name is Caroline.
I am host of this podcast and alife coach.
(01:11):
And I'm so excited that you arehere today.
At the restored mind, we arelooking for mindset shifts that
come from a faith lens.
So what that means is that weare taking scripture and
applying it to our lives so thatwe can have peace and joy,
because that's essentially whatwe're searching for.
If you are a returning listener.
Thank you so much.
My friend that you're making thechoice to be here with me every
(01:32):
week.
I am so appreciative of you.
And I hope that whether you area new listener or returning
listener, that you would findinspiration and encouragement
from this.
Podcast.
So last week we talked about thedifficulties of adjusting to a
new season and what you can doto help despite the initial
feelings that you may have had.
Towards this change and I gomuch more into details and last
(01:56):
week's episode.
So I hope that you're givenlistening.
If you do hope that it inspiresyou this week, though, we are
going to be talking about theimportance of removing the
pressure of being in a hurry.
It's going to serve as a gentlereminder for you to slow down my
friend.
I actually released an episode awhile back that is titled slow
(02:18):
down.
in that episode, I talk aboutthe i wish mentality.
And what happens when you stayin that mindset?
For those of you who don't knowor have not yet listened to that
episode.
The i wish mentality just meansthat you find yourself often
wishing for things.
So you'll say things like I wishI had and then fill in the
blank.
I also talk about.
(02:39):
Why slowing down can help yougrow.
Today's episode is going tofocus on the forward thinking of
slowly but surely, meaning youmight not be where you want to
be, but you are inching your waytowards that direction.
These two episodes can go handin hand.
So if at the end of this one,You still have some time, go
(03:01):
ahead and take a listen to slowdown.
It was recorded early on and therestored mind's journey.
So you might actually hearthey'd nervousness in my voice.
But that's okay because Ibelieve we all have to start
somewhere.
And that's where I was at inthis season of my life.
I was really nervous and used toget really scared to actually
come on the mic and record anepisode.
(03:22):
But we are almost two years inand this has been a wonderful
journey for me and the restoredmind.
Whatever your reasons are forrushing yourself.
My hope is that this episodeencourages you to embrace these
slowly but surely mindset.
You're working hard.
And at some point you can beginto feel like you're never going
(03:43):
to see the end of the tunnel.
You want to reach that goal orbe further along than you
already are.
And oftentimes when you begin tofeel rushed, there's a chance
that you're comparing yourselfto someone else or even the old
you, you might look at how youachieved a goal by a certain
time.
And now you're trying toreplicate that, but you realize
(04:04):
that the challenges and theseason are just different and
you're unsure of what's goingon, but you keep going back and
comparing yourself now to theold you, or maybe you're looking
at someone else and comparing.
They've been in the same fieldfor as long as you have and hear
all their successes and youcan't seem to appreciate, or
even acknowledge the one that'syou have had.
(04:26):
But my friend, let me justremind you that everyone's
journey is different.
Even your journey now comparedto maybe even a year ago is
completely different And we haveto take the forward-thinking of
slowly but surely at hand andkeep in the back of our mind
that even though we're not wherewe want to be, we're slowly but
surely getting there.
And that's something tocelebrate as well.
(04:47):
Maybe you're feeling rushedbecause you feel the pressure
building up the pressure ofshowing up for others and not
letting them down.
So you find yourself in a hurryto get to the next point.
What happens is that you canbecome burnt out frustrated and
disappointed in yourself forletting the ones you care about
down.
(05:07):
And because you're so focused onnot letting them down, you
forget to take care of yourselfin the process.
When I say taking care ofyourself, I mean, taking time to
be with your family, todecompress, to think about your
next move that you're going tomake to methodically plan things
out.
And sometimes when you begin torush or to feel like you're in a
hurry to get to the next point, you're not really thinking
(05:29):
things through and sometimes itcan actually set you back.
More than you would like then ifyou did actually take your time
to get to where you'd like tobe.
Oftentimes the truth is that.
You're not letting them down atall.
And we just haven't made up inher head that we've let them
down because we weren't able toachieve what we thought we could
within a certain timeframe.
And so when you are in thismindset, there's a lot of
(05:53):
intrusive thoughts that canbegin to take over.
Remember that the temptation, myfriend of quitting is right
around the corner.
It's always going to be knockingat your door.
And so, because we know that thetemptation to want to quit is
always knocking at the door.
We have the due diligence tomake it harder, to want to quit.
(06:14):
And that could mean that you arekeeping him first and seeking
him daily by being in his word.
Right.
Or it could be replacing.
Complaining thoughts with morethankful ones and honestly, to
be satisfied in what the daybrings.
So being fully satisfied withthe amount of work and the
amount of effort that you put infor a day's work versus thinking
(06:34):
about all the things that youdidn't get to and how many
things left there are to do onyour list of.
Never ending tasks.
So just really taking today atface value and being
appreciative that you were ableto show up in that you get to do
these things.
And that's going to make a hugedifference too.
And whether you are.
Living out slowly but surely orfeeling rushed and being
(06:58):
frustrated that you're not whereyou'd like to be.
now, I've shared my fitnessjourney in earlier episodes.
And I've talked about it before, but if you didn't know, or if
you're new here, I struggledwith physical looks for a long
time.
It was actually getting prettybad.
I was way more insecure with mybody after having kids.
And when I started working out,it was purely for vanity
(07:20):
purposes.
I wanted to look good physicallybecause for me.
It was all about the outsideappearance.
And my fitness journey startedout in April of 2021.
this was the year that I toldmyself I was not going to have.
A start and stop relationshipwith my fitness journey.
Whereas previously it would justbe like every three months I was
(07:44):
onto something different or Iwould quit.
And so.
April of 2021 was the year.
I finally made the choice to, tostop doing that.
But it was also at the timewhere I was at my lowest point,
too, Because so much hadhappened from me dealing with
the grief of a miscarriage to mymarriage suffering.
And just being in a very toxicand negative mindset, that all
(08:05):
was a great recipe for chaos toensue, especially because I
wasn't rooted in the wordeither.
So.
This transformation was supposedto happen in two months.
Because in June of that year, Ihad a girls trip plan and I
wanted to look my absolute best.
So I worked out a lot.
And guess what changed?
Nothing.
Uh, nothing changed, at leastnothing physical and, oh, my,
(08:30):
the disappointment that I feltwas so.
Heavy from April to June.
I remember rushing to get mydream body.
And my dream body was still notdelivered in the time that I
wanted it to, but I will tellyou that over time it did start
to change.
Interestingly, though.
Not when I commanded it to, butwhen I began to take my time,
(08:53):
And of course slowly but surelyI was moving in the direction
that I wanted to go in.
I still don't have my originaldream body that I thought about
three years ago.
But I am so thankful that I'mnot in that same head space to
where that was an obsession thatbrought me the feeling of being
rushed and.
(09:14):
Comparing myself to someone elseand thinking that I wasn't doing
enough this episode was really atime of good reflection of the
younger me versus the older me.
And honestly, I can only laughat how I used to think back then
even three years ago, but alsothe same is true for you.
My friend, this episode is agreat opportunity for you to
(09:34):
take a look at where you wereand where you are at now.
And also ask questions, likewhere can you improve?
Have you forgotten your why?
And for those of you juststarting out, have you figured
out your why?
If you need help with that, I amhere to help you and the show
notes, you'll find the link towork with me.
One-on-one.
My friend, I am a life coach, and this is your opportunity to
(09:57):
take control of what you candefine your why and find freedom
from the feeling of being rushedor living in the comparison
mindset.
Or Continuingly.
Doubting yourself from theabilities that you have with me
as your coach, we can declutteryour thoughts, organize them and
make a plan that is going to fityour.
(10:19):
Uh, personal life so that youcan have a greater chance of
success in meeting your goal andalso living a better quality
life.
There's so much freedom on theother side of this.
It's important.
My friend that you remove thepressure of being any hurry,
because it will take the stressaway of feeling like you're
being in hurry constantly.
It's easy to begin to feel likeyou've fallen behind somewhere
(10:41):
along the way, but when you makethe choice to lessen the load of
unnecessary stress, you get tobe in the moment with the people
around you.
And most importantly, with God.
You also get the opportunity toclear your mind and shift your
focus on what really matters.
And that could look likereprioritizing your daily
(11:02):
routine.
So removing what is no longerrelevant or in alignment with
your goals and replacing it withthe ones that are.
It could be surrendering whatyou want for obedience in the
Lord.
So essentially you're dying toyourself so that you could gain
more of God.
And have him satisfy you daily.
We're not in the game of givinginto our flesh desire for
(11:23):
temporary satisfaction.
We are in it for the long haul.
And it could be to simplylinger.
A little longer so that you canreally take into account the
goodness of God, whatever.
Whatever that may look like foryou.
I'm here to help you with that.
And as you think about it,you're probably going to start
to realize that there are somethings that you have taken up
(11:45):
and maybe it's not necessarilyhelpful for you and your journey
right now.
And just because you say nodoesn't mean no forever.
It just means no for now we haveto start getting ourselves out
of that mindset.
Then when we say no, we'resaying no forever, Sometimes
when you say no to certainthings that actually opens up
opportunities for you.
To take in the moment while youare working to build on, maybe
(12:08):
it's replacing a bad habit witha new one or whatever goal you
have.
But in my own struggle duringthe season of adjusting, I
prompt myself with two questionsand thought I would ask those
same two questions and helps itwill help you because if you're
in a rush, I think these twoquestions.
Would help you reflect on whatyou're doing so that you can
(12:29):
take accountability and beresponsible for the changes that
you're going to make in yourjourney.
The first question is, are youtaking the time to linger in his
presence?
This is a good time to reflecton your own heart posture, and
also ask who are you placingfirst?
Is it you, is it God?
Is it someone else?
(12:49):
Also think about what you mightneed to remove or fast over
meaning what do you need tosurrender during the season of
hurry?
Maybe you need to surrender yourschedule over.
Maybe you need to surrender yourphone or the calendar wherever
you put in these endless tasks.
So rendering that over so thatyou can have more time to
(13:10):
linger.
What do you need to give up inthe season to help you progress?
Moving forward?
And then the second question is,do you find yourself in a hurry
to leave and to do somethingelse?
This question might come withconvictions as you reflect with
honesty, but.
Don't shy away from thediscomfort that convictions can
(13:31):
bring.
Be reminded my friend that whereyou fall short, only highlights
the glory of God and how Jesusfills that gap in your
shortcomings.
Embrace the mindset of slowlybut surely.
You don't want to miss somethingimportant, plus God is most
likely preparing you for thenext season in your life.
And that's why you're goingthrough this particular season.
(13:54):
So my friend don't get burnt outby rushing through everything
instead, slow down and embracethe season.
Now as you navigate throughthese questions, if you're
willing or wanting to share yourthoughts with me On my Facebook
group page, it is called therestore mind.
There is also a link in the shownotes of this episode.
That's going to lead you to thatgroup.
So if you want to share, I wouldlove to know.
(14:16):
What you've discovered in yourown self reflection And it's
also a great way to keep theconversation going beyond the
podcast, which I absolutelylove.
So I'll see you there.
If you decide to comment.
But yes, removing the pressureis going to clear your mind.
I thought about what God says inIsaiah 55, which my friend is
also a really good reminder ofGod's compassion over us.
(14:39):
But I want to focus on verseeight and nine, which reads for
my thoughts are not yourthoughts.
Neither are your ways.
My ways declares the Lord for,as the heavens are higher than
earth.
So are my ways higher than yourways.
And my thoughts.
Then your thoughts.
And I was reading from theEnglish standard version.
My mind came to this particularverse because.
(15:01):
In my reflection of thisepisode, I believe that there
are many of us that get caughtup in wrestling with God in a
way that we often forget who wasin control.
So when we are in a rush, we canoften become frustrated at the
things that aren't happening, the way they in our mind think
it should happen.
But my friend, I want you toremind you that God is in
(15:21):
control.
I think about Jacob as hewrestles with God.
And I think about how much.
Might how much power God musthave held back when he wrestled
with Jacob.
Thinking about the mercy that'sbeen poured over you as you
wrestle with him.
As you settle down, rememberthat?
While you might be in a hurry.
It is important to continue tobe obedient to God's will
(15:45):
because your timeline is not thesame as his and no amount of
huffing and puffing or wrestlingis going to change that.
Now we can do it if we want to,but it'll just probably cause us
to be.
More frustrated.
This is not me telling you thatyou shouldn't put in any work or
that you shouldn't do anythingat all, or that all the work
(16:05):
that you're doing is fornothing.
No, that's not what I'm saying.
I'm just simply here toencourage you to not be so
quick, not be in such a rush toget to the next step, because
you might be missing somethingreally important in front of
you.
And also tomorrow's notguaranteed.
So as you sit here and thinkabout all the things that you
(16:25):
need to get done tomorrow withthe things that happened
yesterday, you're missing out onthe present day and there is
daily manna for you as well.
When you are keeping in stepwith the spirit being in prayer
and in daily readings, myfriend, there's so much
revelation for you to have somuch for you to discover in this
day alone.
And that's where the joy comesfrom.
(16:46):
So as you look at your situationfrom a different perspective, I
encourage you to grow a heartand mind.
Of gratitude To give you peaceand knowing that while you
aren't quite there yet.
You're still making progress andshowing up.
Yes.
Even in this moment, as youstruggle to slow down or
struggle to comprehend whythings are happening so slowly.
(17:10):
You're still showing up becauseyou haven't given up.
And that's always a good thing.
Slowly, but surely you'll getthere.
I know it's so much easier saidthan done.
But my friend, you can do hardthings.
Thank you so much for taking thetime out of your day to listen
(17:32):
in on this episode.
I meant what I said.
You can do hard things, so don'tlet the daily challenges stop
you from reaching your greatestpotential.
