This week on The Roe Show I interview two outstanding athletes in the freestyle sport of Indoor Skydiving (Body Flying) - Inka Tiitto and Rafael Schwaiger. We talk about this unique sport, and how it has evolved over the years, evolving from Skydiving, how to train it and how it has become it's own unique niche sport.
Inka Tiitto, crowned FAI Indoor Skydiving Freestyle World Champion in 2015, born in Finland, age 29, a true inspiration to all flyers out there! Indoor Sky Dancer Inka Tiitto creates freestyle flying routines to music - all in a vertical wind tunnel! As Indoor Skydiving World Champion 2015 and World Cup Winner 2016 in freestyle, Inka Tiitto is one of the top name in the sport of bodyflight. She drives to create esthetic and physically challenging flying choreographies in the airstream. Inka draws influence for routines from her experience in dancing, yoga, acrobatics and performing arts. At the moment, she travels frequently around the world to train, compete, coach and perform. She loves to share her knowledge about bodyflying and offers coaching for all levels of indoor skydivers from beginners to competing athletes.
Rafael (called Rafa) was born in Fürth, Germany. His affinity for movement as a child was a precursor for so many things, his hunger for understanding the body, its movements, capabilities and limitations. After exercising an insane variety of sports from all elements in his youth, the most fascinating ones were the ones where speed and efficiency in combination with balance came together (just like in flying). At the age of 18 he discovered Skydiving (though he was interested in it since he was a child) and what came with it – Indoor skydiving / Bodyflying. He immediately realized what was possible in the air and made it his mission to understand flying in its most meticulous way both physically and mentally. Influenced by a few individuals that are still leading forces in the sport, including his Teammate and colleague Fabian Ramseyer, a true master of the sport who taught him his early basics and several years later passed a lot of his knowledge in teaching on to him. Rafa continues to learn from his Mentor and the two now teach together and form the probably strongest alliance of coaches in the sport.
